Finals Wednesday, May 20th, 2026, this. sports program begins now. Sports! By far the absolute greatest, another overtime thriller in the Garden. Was it rest? Was it rust? Was it a. little bit of both or were the New York.

Knicks doing something so electrifying. in the Mecca that made us all say, "Okay." Good on you, Timothy Chalamet, who had an interview at halftime and he. was asked what the Knicks need to do to. clean it up as the Cavs seemingly were. going to be walking out of New York up. 1-0 in the Eastern Conference Finals. Timothy Chalamet said, "We're a little. little rusty. We're going to have to. clean it up." And we'll get it. We'll. get it though, no problem. They. certainly did in the fourth quarter. They did some historic statistical [ __ ]. They were down 22 in the fourth quarter. They come back and win. There's some. stats going on about amount of points.

per run and how how they're doing what? 40 to 11. I think it was 33 to eight, 22. to four runs late down the stretch. And. it's like Jalen Brunson did what Jalen. Brunson has done to basically everybody. just down the stretch in a big way that. saw all of New York City celebrate a. massive epic comeback. Now, I'm being. told James Harden is a problem. Well, there's a lot of stat my eyes would kind. of tell me that too. I mean, they they. were like. they ran 21 pick and rolls, I guess, to. get James Harden onto the ball and then.

they seemingly cooked James Harden. Even. when James Harden was maybe shifted that. that one, he's just got got obviously. makes it. I mean, everything was falling. for the Knicks and it was seemingly all. falling in James Harden's face. Once. again, I am a James Harden fan, but then. I opened my phone up and my algo just. said, "Hey, look at this stat. James. Harden's ass. Look at this stat. James. Harden is ass." They're directly. designing plays to go after James. Harden. The coach of the Knicks. afterwards would say, "Me and Steve. Kerr, you know, the guy just signed the. extensions, won a bunch of titles, in. the middle of the dynasty, one of the. best coaches of all time. When we're at. Golden State, we actually like, 'Hey,

let's just count the amount of dribbles. of James Harden. He had 1,000 dribbles. tonight. That that is what we're looking. for.'" He was attacking him on the. offensive side saying this guy is what. we're looking at. And then on defensive. side, your eyes are like, "Well, James. Harden, the beard's getting kind of just. not even seemingly working." And then. the head coach of the Cleveland. Cavaliers comes out after the game and. says this. No, listen, he's been one of our best. defenders in these playoffs. I trust. him. He's smart, great hands. Didn't think about that. Okay, so what the hell do we. >> [laughter]. >> That guy's a basketball coach. He has.

his team in the Eastern Conference. finals. Let's assume he knows more. basketball than I do, but everybody's. telling me it's James Harden's fault. down the stretch. He's really getting. cooked and the New York Knicks were. taking advantage of it and every shot. was falling and the comeback kids over. there for the New York Knicks do it. again. They're up 1-0 in the Eastern. Conference. Everything's alive and James. Harden's getting cooked on the internet. yet again and then coach Brown's coming. out talking about his offense game. It's. like are the Cavs going to answer? Donovan Mitchell? There's some stats coming out about him. I don't like him. I guess Don- he has the most.

I don't I'm not even saying No, you got. to say it. You don't like the stats that. is. It's an important stat. >> the stat. I don't like that I'm the. messenger of this. You know, now that. He has an. array of ways to get to the bucket as. Iman Shumpert said. He is certainly. spectacular, but I guess in the playoffs. he is being. associated with the stat, but it is a.

team thing. >> Mhm. I guess he has like the most 20-point. playoff collapses like ever last 30. seasons. Woah. You know, that one in the. fourth quarter. They're saying the odds. were like 0.1%. The odds on sports book. got all the way up to I think plus 8,000. and our guy in the back, Bruce Brown, die-hard Knicks fan, got it at plus. 6,000 in real time. You don't get those. types of odds on live bets unless the. team has absolutely no chance. Bruce, you saw a winner there. What did you. see? The bucket was getting bigger, the. boys were buzzing, the rust was off. What did you see down the stretch from.

your Knicks team that makes you go, "Hold the phone. The boys are back in. town." I believe it was 93-76. Brunson had just hit a three and had. that look in his eyes, just that. stone-cold killer look. >> Yeah. And I saw Donovan Mitchell kind of. smirking. Um and I I think they that he talked. postgame about maybe it was a little. complacency, maybe it was a little bit. of the tired legs. Um but it it just. felt like one of those magic nights. might be on the way at the Garden. And. you know, I mean, Jaylen just he.

basically played the perfect game for. the final 8 minutes of the fourth. quarter and then into OT. He truly is a. god a godsend to New York sports. Um and. I mean, it's just unbelievable, man. I I. can't believe that we are here with the. Knicks up a game in the Eastern. Conference Finals with this [ __ ] guy. just just with the entire city on his. back. It's unbelievable. >> And it seems to me the right guy for it. You know, there's a couple moments where. he's walking by himself where I'm like, I wonder who he's looking at cuz. everybody in the arena is looking at him.

as he's walking around everywhere. And. he's seemingly still above it, not lost. in it, but respects it all. And he's the. king of this he's the king of the city. Yeah. >> Okay, I know Aaron Judge, obviously. still rises, but the Mets exist. Okay? Yeah. Jaylen Brunson, king of the city. You know, >> Yeah. that if especially. >> now, for sure. He's. like, "Nah, you guys don't. You're one of our best guys." What? How. does that happen? I I I feel like that's. not the case. Or maybe he's just trying. to gas up his guy. Yeah. Maybe he's. trying to coach him up because he knows. that James Harden's about to hear from. everybody about the colossal collapse.

that just took place. Donovan Mitchell. has to feel that. He grew up in the. area. I guess I guess he is a a a. look. Him walking back in Madison Square. Garden afterwards just all by himself in. the tiny little hallway. You know, Spike. is doing all this [ __ ] in front of. Madison Square Garden. Place going. crazy. He's from there. And the walkout. afterwards is a little POV camera up in. the corner like a security camera that. TV people now have, which is good. I. think you get it. As an NHL insider, I had some breaking news yesterday about. the penalty for coach Torts after game. six Anaheim win where they decided to do. no media and just get to a plane and. leave. He was fined personally $100,000. and they were stripped of a second-round. draft pick. There was an appeal that was. heard in New York in front of the. commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman, and the penalties were upheld basically. after they same exact penalties will be.

assessed. $100,000, second-round pick. Cannot be a precedent that we want to. set with the media. But Torts. potentially said, "I don't care about. any of it. I would like the boys in this. change room to understand that I'm on. your side." There's a chance that he. walked into that change room after that. game and said, "We're not talking to any. of these [ __ ] They've been. against us since the beginning. They. doubted you, they doubt me, they doubt. all of us. Why are we going to think. about missing an air time for these. people? Let's get out of here." And the. boys in the in change room were like, "We can do that? We're we're allowed to. do that?" Yeah. Here's [ __ ] gold.

as day-to-day. Now, remember, hockey. doesn't tell us anything about any. injuries. Okay, hockey just doesn't do. that. They They have a funny way of. describing things. Like, this guy has an. upper body. Mhm. What does that mean? He. has upper body, he'll play maybe. And. then it comes out after they lose, what. was his upper body? Oh, his spinal. fracture in like four spots. They. actually had to lift him up and shoe him. onto the ice for him to do that. So, for. Makar to miss a anything, especially at. this stage of the playoffs, this has to. be a very, very serious injury. That. changes a lot of things, obviously, in. that particular game. Ty, are you.

excited about what the Golden Knights. could potentially pull off tonight? >> Yeah, and I I like the point you're. making about, you know, everything. that's kind of happening with the Golden. Knights. I mean, I I don't watch every. single game throughout the season. We've. talked about it. They They drop the puck. very late, so it's hard, but I'll check. box scores, but going from paternity, where I'm I was up no matter what, so I. was watching all these games. Like, I'm. completely back, completely invested, and they are fun to watch, but then I. walked in this morning, and I looked at, you know, the the scroll going across, and it's like, well, the Avalanche have.

won 53 games. There's a reason. everyone's saying this might be the best. team ever. But then you add all this. stuff where everyone's kind of [ __ ]. on the Golden Knights, [ __ ] on. Torts. If there's an opportunity to add a chip. on the shoulder inside there, like, I. absolutely love that. And like you. mentioned, Cale Makar is obviously. unbelievable. This is a This type of. injury you would assume is going to be. something that lingers throughout this. entire series, because he's he's not. going to miss a game of this magnitude. if it's I mean, we've even We've heard. guys, you know, having really high. temperatures, being super sick, they go.

out there and play. So, like, something. is is really going on here. And now, if. you're the Golden Knights, you have to. capitalize on the road tonight. >> Yeah, we just literally saw T2, T1, T2, whatever, come out of a guy from Anaheim. that was playing. Game 1 obviously lived up to the hype. immensely. I mean, just absolutely We. got extra free basketball. Wemby goes. absolutely crazy. SGA and the lads have. to battle in front of their home court. crowd, which is one of the greatest in. all of sport. Everything that could. happen that was awesome did happen, including a pull-up from Wemby from the. logo and it was his first time shooting. a three all night basically as he was.

living in the paint. It was a. spectacular. Game 1. What does Game 2 have now? Does SGA answer? Ooh. He got double-teamed in a big way. >> did. Let Caruso kind of be wide ass. open. Caruso goes for 30. He started. hitting everything. Again, on Christmas. day against the Spurs, Caruso didn't hit. his main shots. So, I think Caruso and. the team understood that he was probably. going to be left wide open here from the. uh the San Antonio Spurs, and he goes.

crazy. And he just starts hitting. Will. that happen again? Will more guys have. to hit? Or will Wembanyama just decide. that this one's just like a hockey. goalie, this one's going to be won by. us. This is how this is going to go. He. doesn't get as much fouling trouble as I. would have expected for Wembanyama. And. I think it's because they don't want to. call it while he's getting attacked. But. he does a lot of bumping as well. There's a lot of physicality with the. way Wembanyama plays. I appreciate the. officials hopefully kind of letting them. play. But if there's a couple early. whistles, I think on Wembanyama, this. entire game really changes. And if that. was to happen, people are going to get.

real loud. Because watching this alien. do his thing, especially taking on a. team in the middle of the dynasty, and. not just the alien, the the players. around him, young, confident, hard work, feels like they do all the. miserable stuff. They're an incredible. taking on a dynasty. It is a special. match-up that we could have here tonight. as long as everything goes smooth. Knicks made that first half of their. run, they went on the 18 and one run you. mentioned to kind of kind of get it. within eight and then it became a better. game, but that was only the last. quarter. It does seem as though this one. is going to be a seven-game series that. hopefully every single one's a banger. The Chet Holmgren conversation about him. and Wemby battling fascinates,

especially if we talk about fouls and. how this could go. I hope they let him. play. Wemby good at this though. >> Yeah, I looked up because you got me. interested when you said it's like is he. going to get in foul trouble or. whatever. We we saw the stats of the youngest. starting. five from the entire NBA history, yeah, 22 years and 346 days as the average. So. hopefully those young legs kind of step. it up, but it's hard to imagine OKC just. laying down. You would assume that they. have something planned, but who knows if. else guard Wembanyama tonight, it's. going to be hard not to bet Wembanyama. to have 35 points again. >> Yeah, well if Chet guards Wembanyama. it's going to be hard not to bet that. cuz what we understand with Wembanyama. move to the NFL. I alluded to it there. There's a 30-day. prison sentence that is happening for. Rashee Rice. There was. a deferred probation for a certain. amount of years, which we looked it up. where basically the deferred probation. is a five-year period where as long as. you are good in your probation, the. charge will kind of just be wiped from. your record, I think. Um, there won't be. any more punishment. You kind of move. forward. But, if in that five-year. deferred probation period, you.

fail anything in your probation, you are. then to serve your sentence that was to. be given. So, in this one, you can correct me if I'm wrong, Schefter, but I've had some friends that. have had DUI situations with this where. they've had certain probation periods. where they couldn't do anything. If they. did, then the entire sentence would be. Can you explain how we got to this? Did. the Chiefs know that he was going to be. doing 30 days in jail? Did we know this? How long did he know that it was going. to be happening because you reported. that he got surgery just a week before. or or within the last couple weeks clean.

up of a knee which you would certainly. not want to be in jail for 30 days while. fresh out of a surgery it seems like. Can you kind of clarify all this for us. Schefter as we look at a situation that. I don't think we've seen in in. a a. long time, right? This is this is. certainly okay, sorry, go ahead. There there are a few different sides to. this and. we'll present some of what we were told. yesterday. But basically as it was. explained to me yesterday, obviously he. did not know that he was going to be.

going to jail for 30 days here. If he. did, there's no way that he would have. had the knee surgery that he did last. week so that he'll be in jail in a. Dallas County County jail which he now. is. He's currently in a. jail cell in. Dallas County jail coming off the knee. surgery he had last week that'll. sideline him two months. Now, that's two. months normally with the attention and. care and rehab that you're going to get. I don't know how this works where you.

undergo knee surgery and then you're in. jail. Now, there was some sort of. violation of his probation. that had to have occurred recently or at. least the judge found out about it and. ruled on it and ordered him to serve his. 30 day sentence in jail now. So, he is. been sentenced to jail for 30 days here. as part of the situation connected to. the car crash that he was involved in.

where people were injured. We remember. that incident a couple of off seasons. ago. It was supposed to be a five year. probationary period. The judge involved. who I understand is retiring here. He's. an outgoing judge and somehow Rashee. Rice was ordered to serve the 30 day. sentence now for a violation to his. probation which. we assume was some sort of positive test. for marijuana. Okay, so we're not 100%. sure what the violation was, but it has.

been alluded to that it was a failed uh. substance abuse test for your probation. which prohibits that. Also your. profession, but obviously. I mean, he would be. Was there any alcohol or. involved in that arrest or drugs. involved in that arrest? So is he in the. NFL's program? I wonder if he's in the. NFL's program. Oh, oh I I think he is. I think what I. think what's going to happen here, unconfirmed, is.

now he'll be re-entered into the. the NFL's drug program, but again, you. remember in the last CBA. you there there are no suspensions. disciplined for marijuana. And. then just from the football standpoint, looking at the Chiefs, I mean he's going. to be another month behind on recovery. But at some point in time if. and when the money's right for any of. these players, then they step in at that. point in time. But it hasn't happened. yet and there's certainly a lot of. options out there at that receiver.

position right now for teams that are in. the market. I don't know how many teams. are in the market for a wide receiver. right now. Like I guess the Chiefs may. be looking to add one, maybe. Do. you think more attention to this. conversation has changed the way teams. treat it or players treat it? And what. should we make a big deal out of it? Because back in the day, none of this. How. do you expect Oklahoma City to respond. to what Wemby did in game one? And how.

do you think they're going to try to. stop what this special. I mean, unique alien is doing right now. in the biggest stages. Yeah, man. Wemby's unbelievable. He's in. that that game the other night. Like. this shot you're showing, everything he. did the other night was incredible. Now, what the Thunder have to do is they they. have to respond and and like it's been. talked about a lot, if I'm Chet. as a as a player, as a man, I got to I. got to stand up and say, "Coach, I I.

want that match up." Regardless of. whatever is being suggested and like you. saw they threw several different bodies. at him, Jalen Williams, Caruso, Lu Dort. Chet Holmgren is the one that everybody. wants to see, that we should see facing. him in that That's to me, that's the. best match up for Wemby. The likes The. likeness in size and and body shape and. body structure. And he's the only one. >> Why wouldn't he? Yeah. I've been so. confused all week. We've been talking. about it and people are like, you know, Caruso probably the right guy for that. match up. It's like, how how I don't.

know basketball well enough. Why would. he not be guarding him? They just think. he's better on like the second best. player so they can kind of eliminate him. and then double Wemby. Like, what is the. what is the thought? I'm not sure what. the thinking is behind it. Maybe they. think they can bother him with smaller. guys or whatever because he's not as. strong and he's not going to, you know, like uh back you down like a Shaq would. in the post or something. But to me, if. I'm Wemby I mean, not Wemby, if I'm Chet. in that situation and I'm in the locker. room while this is being said to the. team, like, "Hey, this is what we're. going to I'm I have to stand up and say.

something." And say, "Hey, wait a. minute. Wait a minute, coach. Like, me. and this dude got history. I want this. match up." Now, ultimately the coach is. going to have the last say, but I would. at least have to speak up and and let. let it be known that I would like this. match up and I want to take that. challenge on. It's crazy that it didn't. happen, but we assume that Chet has. heard it and we assume he'll answer. The. Oklahoma City team is unbelievable and. obviously they could have won game one. What would the conversation be if that. was the case? Instead now we're talking. about Wemby maybe never losing a.

basketball game game again. Let's talk. about SGA in Oklahoma City. He gets. doubled immediately upon breaking half. court. That happens to him I guess on a. very regular basis. That means. somebody's going to be left open because. it's just a math game. Caruso hit last. time. How do you think SGA responds? What do you think Oklahoma City is about. to face and how how do we watch them. bounce back like I assume they're going. to do because they haven't lost two in a. row probably. years maybe. >> Yeah, I have no idea when the last time. they did that.

Yeah, I I I expect. SGA to to do pretty much what he did. last game. I mean he he's all he's said. that all year long and last couple years. that he really reads the game and and. watches and and and sees what he needs. to do and where he gets his where he can. fit in, but. I'm impressed by his poise and not. forcing anything. I do expect him to be. a little more aggressive tonight trying. to find, you know, trying to find more. chances to go one-on-one and and do his. thing because they need him to score. more. But um I still expect him to kind. of start out like just letting the game.

flow and if his teammates are the open. guys, using those guys and I don't know. if it'll be Caruso or who it'll be that. get the open shots this time and knock. them down or or not knock them down, but. I think to a certain extent that's how. SGA is wired, man. He he doesn't really. like force the issue and and you saw. when he stopped when he broke the. 20-point streak. He didn't do anything. extra go crazy to try and get the. points. He kind of just lets the game. dictate itself. But I do expect him to. have some level of of of aggression that.

Uh so, a couple things. Like, first if. like number one, if I'm James Harden and. I I I want to say this by start off. saying this by like, I got crazy respect. for for the for James Harden and his. game and and you know, everything he's. done and what he means to the game. But. in a situation like this, I mean, it's. it's tape of me guarding different. people, Kobe, whoever it may be. When.

somebody start tuning you up like this, you got to you got to give him a shot. Like, obviously in this era, you can't. do nothing too crazy. You might get a. you know, technical or thrown out. You. don't want to do nothing like that. But. when somebody is just lining you up, seeking you out every time every time. and they scored this many points in a. row, at some point, I don't care. I'm. just going to hit you. I'm going to just. foul you and let you know that you. pissing me off and that it might go. further if you continue to just to try.

to do anything because nothing clearly. he couldn't guard him. He couldn't guard. him and they continued to go to it and. exploit it. That's the first thing but. secondly from the team and the coaching. standpoint if the coach ain't going to. switch it, as a teammate somebody got to. step in and say yo now let me get him. Like this is like what are we doing. here? Somebody it was a failure on all. different sides for for for the coach to. change the match up, a player or. teammate to step in and say I somebody. we need to do something or for even. Harden to say himself you don't want to.

concede defeat but at some point we want. to win the game. Tom Thibodeau said that Harden's one of. his best defenders after the game and. all I all my algo was feed me was that. he was take the worst defender in. history of basketball. So I was just so. it was such a juxtaposition in it all. but like the Knicks just getting that. hot that quickly and the way you were. saying it Jalen Brunson just saying in. the huddle I think there is a moment. where he starts talking by the way. Hey. get me on Harden. Maybe that's what he's. saying you know we will run on a 40 to.

11 run or whatever the case was. Insane. fourth quarter absolutely epic start to. the NBA playoffs thus far. Why is. Atkinson saying that about James? He's. just trying to gas him up try to keep. him motivated cuz he understands that. James can hear all this and can James. respond to this in a big way like he did. in the previous series. Absolutely I think I think he absolutely. said that to you know support his guy. and to stay behind him and you know show. him support but um yeah I think I mean. to me Harden can definitely bounce back.

I was surprised at this game I felt like. going into the game I was looking at his. numbers like historically against the. Knicks he plays well in the garden. against the Knicks in general he has a. winning record against them. I felt like. it boded well for for him in this series. but obviously he didn't play as well as. you know anybody would have liked him to. and and and then the defensive the. defensive part of it is. you know that's all that everybody's. talking about so that's a tough one. I. will say this though, it is they were. probably the Knicks got down to when.

they cut it down to like it was either. 16 or 15 or 13 or something like that. And I tweeted, I said they got a shot. right here. I said if they can make the. push and do a couple more like cuz in in. this NBA the three-pointer is such an. equalizer that 20 points is no longer. like this, you know, unfathomable thing. to come back from like it used to be. And so, once they got it to 15 and the. crowd started to get a little more into. it and you saw. Brunson start to come alive and I was.

like if he score again, like they need. to double immediately. The same way that. people are doing as yet, they got to run. two guys at them immediately and just. get them off the ball and then see what. anybody else could do, but they let it. get too far and too far. And then once. they got into it, I said, "Okay, we got. a game." And then you could see the. change in Cleveland. They they they. played timid after that. It was like. they tried to get the air out of the. ball and run the clock and then it was. like one of the turns up. It It felt. like they played timid to me. And all we. are is 1/8 of an inch away from the.

Joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, from an attic in Ohio is a man who's a. college football national champion, a. Super Bowl champion, a Ryder Cup winner, ladies and gentlemen, AJ Hawk. Hawk, there's good news coming out of. New England, it sounds like, for Drake. Maye. I did actually hear that. We hear. We hear all great things coming out of. We're seeing highlights come out from. social media teams. We're watching. people dance. We're seeing good coaching. happening. We're seeing celebrations. We're seeing highlights. I saw Carson. Beck put one in an absolute bucket. It's. like, right now is all good times, I.

think, and when you're building up the. belief in your team potentially being. able to win it all. Josh Allen's already. got handshakes for everybody. Keion. Coleman right there has come out as a. Maker Break Year for Keion Coleman. Joe. Brady loves Keion Coleman. It's like. right now feels like all positive, which. I absolutely love, AJ Hawk. Yeah, it is. And this is a time in the NFL where you. like it really is a great time for. players, if you think about it, to build. your culture because you have this. on-the-field stuff, yes, but you're only. at the facility what, 4 or 6 hours a. day? This is the time when you go and.

you work on the field, then you get to. actually hang out off the field and go. play golf, go do whatever it is. So, this is a key time, I think, for teams. like to build those relationships truly. Beers with the lads on the golf course. Go to Cabo. Like and say your team goes. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday which. they don't do anymore. A lot of times. that Tuesday night you all go out and. hang out and oh yeah, just great times. Cards games happening card games. happening all the time throughout the Oh. my god. I. mean he's firing darts in Miami boys. >> I believe in Malik. They need to just. let him do what he he is. Run the. football. Just commit to it. And.

everybody's so scared to do it fully. because of the quarterback position. If. he gets hurt you're kind of screwed but. it's like what if you never reach the. apex of a player because you're scared. to let him be who he's supposed to be. We're kind of saying that with Justin. Fields. Like Justin Fields is clearly. the best runner of the ball whenever. he's on the field. Whatever he's running. with it he is. faster than everybody, he's seemingly. smarter than everybody, he has good. awareness on where to run to, set up. blocks. He's like an incredible but he's. quarterback. We need him to throw, we. need him to throw. It's like okay, definitely has to throw better of course. but why wouldn't we want to utilize what.

makes him maybe an NFL quarterback? And. they're like, "Well, one shot, it's. over." It's like, "Well, did you ever. get it?" You know, like I think there is. a. >> spot to be in. It like to be it's almost. like you're being punished for being a. great athlete. You're not punished, but. hey, to a true like we think old school. drop-back quarterback, you need to be. able to, you know, take a three-. five-step drop and pull the trigger. But, if you are an absolute freak. athlete that's faster than most every. guy on the field at that time, yeah, it. probably would benefit you to pull that. thing down, maybe have some design runs. But, then all of a sudden like the.

better you get, the more scared they get. for you to get hurt. >> Lamar, exactly. The better you get at. running the ball, the more scared they. are that you're running the ball. Like. it it was happening with Lamar Jackson, obviously in his first contract. All. anybody said was not going to be able to. last long enough in the NFL to be able. to do this. Then he makes it through his. whole first contract, then he gets. franchise tagged, makes it through there. again, wins an MVP, does the entire. thing. And they're like, "You you're. going to pay? You think he's going to". He's like, "He's proven that he can. avoid hits and everything. We we got to. see him be able to throw." Then he. becomes the best passer in the NFL. Remember his like QBR was better than. everybody else and his passer rating was.

better than everybody else. And then he. wins another MVP, and it's like, "He's. still not going to be able to do all. that running." It's like, "Okay." But, that is kind of the old narrative. There. has been unique situations, Lamar. Jackson being that. How about him. attending more off-season stuff than. he's ever attended before? And maybe. Minter cracking into a new culture over. there in Baltimore. Everybody's talking. about John Harbaugh, okay, cuz he went. to the Giants, he picked up and left, took a lot of Ravens with him. Nobody's. talking about what's going to happen in. Baltimore. Is this going to be a. refreshed team, a happy team, a hungry. team with Minter? What are your thoughts.

on how this Baltimore Raven squad looks. as a whole? And what is Budda going to. be cheering for this year? Yeah, I mean, I think I think with. Minter they may have like some I don't. know, like you you re-energize them a. bit. I'm I'm sure for the more for. anybody, it's true no matter what level. you are on the team. When a new staff. comes in, you kind of have to prove. yourself to them. And if you have any. pride as an athlete, you want to show. them, "Hey, no, like these I want this. new staff to know like I'm in here. daily. I I run the show. This is my like. I am the absolute leader of this offense. of the team and you want to prove to.

those guys that you are who they. probably think you are. >> All right, last question here about this. whole thing. The reason why we're. talking about this cuz Lamar missed. voluntary workouts. Some other guys did. as well. Back in the day, it was not a. big deal. Now we cover everything. How. do you feel? About missing Yeah, I mean there's. things come up all the time. You. mentioned it earlier in the show. Family. stuff, charity events. Yeah, there's. reasons to miss the time. Yeah. Maybe there is a golf game that has to. be played, you know. Not that I I had to be in everyone cuz I. was a tweeter and I was a punter. So I. had to be there's no hey, you can't be.

And you usually have I I I would assume. they still have you attend a certain. amount of the off-season workouts. Like. they'll tell you if you need 85% of the. workouts, you get your workout bonus. Yeah, I heard that was a big thing in. Green Bay. I heard that was a big thing. in Green Bay. So a lot of the cities. that aren't destination cities have the. off-season workout bonuses in place. because like in LA, Herbert like. probably lives out there, you know. Dallas, a lot of guys like live. >> Free money though. It's great though. It's free money in your contract. You. don't like I was like you can put as. much as you want in there because all I. have to do is show up, which I'm going. to do anyway. That's your job. That's. kind of what fans think now whenever.

guys miss OTAs are like it's your job. You're getting paid so this is you can't. show up for 6 days here in the middle of. May to do your job. That's how fans. feel. But like the voluntary OTAs. It's like hey, do you want to come say. what's up? It used to be viewed like. this. It was definitely how fans It used. to be viewed like that. Now it's like. hey, get you get paid a lot of money. You need your ass needs to be Is guys. committed? What are we doing? You want. to go do a charity event, raise $100. million for cancer research? Okay, do it. on your own time. You You didn't have to. work the last 3 months. You didn't make.

the playoffs in January, yeah. You. remember you didn't make the playoffs? You remember that? You had a lot OF TIME. DURING THE PLAYOFFS TO DO ALL THIS [ __ ]. That's what fans say. Yes. That's what fans are supposed to say and. we appreciate that as we move forward. That's him all the way over. there. Everyone is you moving bodies. You're playing tackle on a couple of. these. They're projecting you to be an. interior offensive lineman. When did you.

grow into the offensive line body? Have. you always been a massive body mover? How'd you find your way into this. particular field, Jordan? I mean, you know, I've always been big. You know, also when I was playing. basketball uh back in the old days, just. playing basketball. But my coach, I used. to foul out every single time. I was the. big guy on the field, so my basketball. coach talked to my dad, got me into. football, and I've been playing football. ever since. How's the recruiting. process? Uh having basketball feet while. also having the power and the mindset to. want to punish people makes up a perfect. offensive lineman. How has the.

recruiting process been for you over the. last couple years, especially now with. the NIL component and everything else. that could potentially muddy the waters. a bit? I mean, it's been good. You know, I. started started um really January of my. sophomore year. It's been turned up. since then, so it's been a great time. Um and the NIL part, I mean, for me, it's a blessing, you know. I can take. care of my family early. I can just help. all the people I want to help out and. people the people who helped me out. So, it's just a It's been a great It's been. a blessing for me. Jordan, I love.

everything you're saying. I love. watching your film. I love the fact that. the future of the offensive line is. seemingly in great hands. I mean, I've been. there I've been there twice and then. even those two visits, I mean, I've seen. practice, I've seen the I've seen the. city of Lincoln, I've seen how coach.

that kind of what your business is? What. what. So these these are the mares and and. they'll get on the van, you know, to go. to the stallion farm to get covered. So. all these stallion farms where they have. these big expensive stallions, every. farm has something called a teaser. stallion. And the teaser wears like a. big chef's apron, right? So he's covered. and he goes up to the mare. to make sure she's receptive to the. whole process. So the teaser gets. screwed out of this whole deal whole. deal. He gets no action. And once the.

mare is known that she's receptive, they. take the teaser out, the big stallion. trots in and then he covers the mare. So. it's a it's a whole process. You do not. want to be the teaser. Okay, don't want. to be the teaser, it sounds like, but it. does sound like the horse business is a. pretty sophisticated one that has. process. You're really in this thing. You're in the horse business. Should we. be talking about you as if you are horse. guy as opposed to NHL guy? Like is this. your full commitment now? Um I I love it. I mean it's I I liken. it, boys, it when you join a golf.

country club, you are never going to see. that money again. You're going to pay. your monthly dues, but what are you. going to get out of it? Tons of. friendships, tons of great experiences. You have to love the game to get in it. and I love horse racing. I love the. breeding. You know, we we try and be. profitable and make money by selling. these babies at auction every year and. just getting out in Kentucky, Lexington. is such a underrated town, a beautiful. place and just to have this this place. in retirement has been awesome with the. the moms, the babies, all the racing out. at Keeneland and the beers down at.

And how do you think the Golden. Knights can potentially steal I don't. want to say steal. I apologize. Golden. Knights will take that as disrespect. But you understand what I'm saying here. for this Vegas team. Is this the time. and even if Makar was playing, would. they have what it takes to potentially. make this real in here in Colorado? I think Vegas is going to give Colorado. a tougher series than maybe everyone. thinks. Since Torts has taken over in.

Vegas, they've lost two three games, I. think maybe less including the regular. season and the playoffs. So, this is a. team that really knows how to win. They. won the cup in '23. Colorado won in '22. So, it's two veteran teams going at it. Eichel and MacKinnon, two of the best. two-way centers in the NHL. Some might. even have MacKinnon as as the best. player in the NHL right now, especially. if he can win another cup. But having. Makar out, the the best description I. can give, if you're not a. if you're not a natural hockey fan. watching the show right now, it would be.

like a primetime LeBron James not being. in the lineup. That's how big Makar is. for the Avs and for the NHL. He's He's. just as good on the offensive side as he. is defensively. He's a guy that's out. there when you need a goal. and when you're defending the other team. trying to put one in your net. So, he's. just that good at both ends of the rink. He's. an electrifying talent as far as what he. can bring offensively. But sometimes you. see these guys that are so good on one. end and they sacrifice for the other.

end. He's not that guy. He can do it at. both ends of the ice. I don't know if. Mark Stone's going to play tonight for. Vegas, their captain. I don't think he. is. He's got the back issue. But I think. it's going to be a heck of a series. I. have it going six or seven games and. it's going to come down to goaltending. at the end of the day for me. I don't. know if Carter Hart can be a guy that. can shut down the Avs in this long. series like it's probably going to be, but it's going to be two heavyweights. squaring off. >> Okay, so let's talk about a couple of. the injuries that you mentioned there. He was. playing with What was the the one the. other day? Uh L2 or C2 C1. >> like actual things. And Internal bleeding for the Flyers. The guy had Yeah, it might have been. Tampa a couple years ago where somebody. was actually like getting pushed up onto.

the ice. Yeah, Kucherov couldn't stand up, and we. didn't It was his ribs, right? Yeah. Didn't even find out till afterwards. though, cuz you guys don't put anything. out. types of things when you sit when you. don't sit in hockey a sport that like I. think expects everybody to play all the. time. For me, and I'm just speculating. I. don't I don't I don't I played with. these guys. I'm really good friends with. them. I'm not going to bug them during. the playoffs. I'm not going to fish for, you know, any injury gossip or anything. like that, but to me it feels like it's. worse than they anticipated because. they've had a little bit of time off. since they closed out Minnesota, right? They haven't had Carolina time off, 10. 11 days, but they've had time off. So, I.

do expect him to play. probably in game two or game three, but. Colorado is deep enough, especially on. the blue line, which is crazy to say when you're saying. you're going to miss probably that maybe. the best player and the best defenseman. in the world out of your lineup. I think. Colorado's deep enough back there to. sustain that loss of Makar, but it's going to be a big task. Like. not only and I talked to you guys the. other day about how good Quinn Hughes. and and Makar are at the top of the. power play. That's where they're going. to miss him the most. They'll probably.

put Devon Toews at the top of the power. play right there. He's a lefty. Makar's. a righty. So, there's just a different. dynamic up there when he gets the puck. Makar can shoot it on the one-timer from. the other side, but now Toews will be. able to shoot the one-timer and it's set. up on MacKinnon's side. So, that's the. difference tonight. It's probably going. to be seven Toews. It could be seven D. Melinsky at the top. You might see Burns. up there as well, but it's just a. different look without Makar up there on. the power play. He's so good. distributing, shooting. So, it's going. to be a big loss, but I think Colorado.

deeper and deeper into playoffs. Like. when you guys won the cup, for you, what. was kind of the hardest thing for your. team to kind of get through? It feels. like right now is the rust rest. conversation for both sides of it with. Carolina and the Avs dealing with a lot. of rust perhaps because they've been off. for so long and the other team not. having enough rest. Like what do you. think is the biggest thing the teams are. going through now and what was kind of. your experience when you guys were at. the Western Conference Finals when you. guys inevitably won the cup?

Great question. So, to me. especially in the regular season and how. condensed the schedule was this year. with the Olympics, guys were playing. realistically every single night and. then all your best players went to the. Olympics and played a gauntlet of hockey. for 3 weeks. So, this rest that Carolina. has, that Colorado's gotten in the first. and a little bit now in the second. round, it's it's so big. Like I can't. overstate it enough. It is. to get four, five days in between series.

or 10 or 11 that Carolina got, you just don't get that type of. recovery. I don't want to hear anything. about the rust. I I do not believe it in. the playoffs. If you can get rest, it's. so big for not only physically on your. body cuz let's be honest, half the teams. getting shot up in their ass with. Toradol before the game anyway and they. can't feel anything. You know, it's like. the miracle drug, right? So, I mean, the mental part of the rest that. you get is is so big. The grind of let's.

let's let's be real. You're playing, say. on a Monday, you're traveling on a. Tuesday, and then you're playing again. on a Wednesday, really the whole way. through unless you're lucky enough to. sweep a team or beat a team in five. So, I don't buy into any of the rust because. the rest physically, mentally, all that. stuff, it overweighs all of it to me. I. think it's so big this time of year cuz. you just can't find it during the. season. Time. why you. punish.

>> Finding time is a good thing, especially. in the playoffs in a best of seven. series when it can be absolutely. grueling. We saw it last night with the. Knicks though. They had a little rust. DJ. Whenever we talk about a little. bit of puck, it's not just the players. that are on tour at all. For us in the. NFL, the coaches were lining up over. there as well. AJ has a question about. that. Yeah, Horna, we we talked about. Torts on here. Obviously, Vegas the. Vegas coach. How about Colorado? This. Bednar character seems like the just. cool, calm, and collected. He doesn't. ever seem phased. He seems just awesome.

His hair is amazing. He dresses great. What can you say about Bednar here? Yeah, I think the biggest thing from. playing for him is he's really. relatable. I think maybe this has. changed over the course since I first. got in my. into the league when when my career was. going on early on in, you know, 2006, 2007. Coaches were more pricks, right? I. think you you know, you walk down the. hallway right in front of them, you kind. of put your head down, they put their. head down. There wouldn't be a ton of. talking. Bedzy's super relatable, and I think the.

the biggest thing is I've noticed he's. gotten a ton of confidence since he. first broke into the league. He came in. late. I don't know if you guys remember. It was 2016. Patrick Roy had just. retired abruptly. Sorry sorry, resigned. abruptly in. middle of August. So, that's that's. really really close to the season. starting and and Bednar just won the AHL. championship is that's the the farm. league in uh in the NHL and he got hired. right before that. We went on to finish. last this that season dead last in the. NHL and Joe Sakic our GM at the time had.

a decision to make. Do I bring this guy. back or give him another chance? He. brought him back and he's rewarded him. in spades. I think a lot of people are questioning. should Bednar get fired if the Avs don't. win the Stanley Cup this year? I think. it it'd be a foolish decision one way or. the other. This guy would be scooped up. in 2 minutes. He's I think one of the. top coaches in the NHL. He's embraced. analytics and the eye test. A lot of. coaches they just used to rely on the. eye test. What am I seeing? He uses the. data with his eyes what he's seen during.

the game to make decisions on his lineup. and his roster. He's got that cool. surfer dude vibe. He's dressing better. than he ever has. I don't know who's. helping him with his outfits. I know. it's not him, but he's a great guy. I. really enjoyed playing for him. I like. that you decided to take a shot to his. shins there late. Like yeah, the guy's. fashion is ass, but somebody is. certainly helping him in that particular. fashion. What is the coach doing? Okay, so obviously we know in other sports. there's a offense coordinator, defense. coordinator. Uh there's a lot of that happening. There's bench coaches in the NBA. They.

deal with this. You deal with the wings. You deal with this whole thing. For the. NHL what? There's special teams coaches. which is what? Uh penalty kill and Power. power play and everything like that. What is the head coach doing? Just. scheduling, narrative, mission at like. how how what how much coaching is. happening game to game like in game? How. much of that is happening during games? So it'll change a lot from the regular. season to the playoffs because you're. playing the same opponent for so long. right in the playoffs. So. Bednar is a guy that he's the only coach.

I've played for in my career. I think I. played for. five maybe. He does almost not all the work, but he. does a ton of the presentation and. meetings himself. A lot of guys will. send it off to their assistants to run. meetings, but he runs almost all of his. meetings. So, we have a head coach, a. forward coach, and a defensive coach, and a video coach, and a skills coach. The forward coach runs the power play, the defensive coach typically runs the. penalty kill. Of course, the head coach.

has input in all those things, but the. forward coach will run the power play. meeting, the defensive coach will uh run. the penalty kill meeting with input from. the head coach. But, Bednar will run his. pre-scout meeting five on five, four on. four, six on five the morning of the. game in front of the entire team, where. a lot of coaches don't do that. Bednar. shows a ton of video, does a ton of. explanations. If I had one critique of. him as a coach, his meetings were too. long. Every player would say that. Players hate meetings. He'd probably say. my attention span was too short.

Actually, no, he'd say that. But, he. does a great job of just doing a lot of. the work himself. It's really. unbelievable to see because he came up. through the East Coast League, which is. a level before the American League, and. then he was in the American League. So, he's used to doing all that stuff, but. he he does a ton of the work himself, of. course, with the help of his assistants, but he's he's a coach that does not. really rely on a lot of people to do a. lot of the work for him. He works his. ass off, and that's that's why he's such. a good coach. >> It's unbelievable how good he looks if. he works his ass off like that as.

opposed to what everybody else does. I. think that Oklahoma City, wasn't he G. League coach, too, Dax, before he went. up there? >> Yeah. There's been a few of those. >> Yeah, and they've been like coming up. through the system, you learn obviously. the building, the team, the. organization, the players, the ideas, the mantras. Like, I think that's a good. little feeding ground, obviously. And. then sometimes you'll just get your ass. fired and then picked up at another. place. Quickly, uh Sully did a lot of. great years in Pittsburgh, and then he. got fired, and then exactly what you. said happened, somebody will pick him up. in 2 minutes. He went to the Rangers, and then the Pens went to the playoffs.

I think a lot. of them have have said that and acted in. that particular fashion. So, just felt. weird that we have to. like kind of submit to potentially win.

from these people like it was just a. weird thing. I didn't like it. I didn't. I didn't like how how it all went down. I didn't like how invested a lot of. people got because it felt like they. were getting their hearts broken when. I'm like, "Hey, I think you do a good. show. I don't think you should be as. bummed out as you are." And then the. people that win, obviously we're pumped. for how happy they were, but then it's. also like, "Does this mean it?" Like, I don't know. what it means. So, Foss, the boss, he's the one that submitted us, which we. appreciate Foss doing that because what. has come is a very cool like moment for.

a lot of us. It's like, "Hey, it's cool that our peers, I guess, would be in this thing have said like, 'Hey, uh welcome to the biz.' almost, you know, in their own way. Now, do we. think it's taken a long time and has the. road been very difficult to kind of see. eye to eye with these particular people? Yes, but it is very cool that we are. getting acknowledged, you know, if that. makes sense, even in the uh nomination. for the award. And if we were to win, that'd be outrageous, but I do fear that. we're going to be walking into a place. that is. going to be buzzing there a little bit.
