HEY, put my hands up. Keep my hands up all. again now.
USA, USA, USA.
Come on in. >> Oh my god.
Ah!
The following program is a collection of. students talking about happenings in the. sports world. It is meant to be comedic, informative. The opinions expressed on. this show do not necessarily reflect the. beliefs of their peers, their boss or. ESPN. There may be some cuss words. because that's how humans in the real. world talk. If you are a young, please.
seek permission before watching any. further. >> Hey, let's go. >> This show sticks and the fact that you. listen, we are very, very thankful for. on the line with a gorgeous assist. >> The alltime leading tackler for the. Green Bay Packers, you. stop. Damn it. >> Your friend, tell a friend something. nice could change their life.
>> Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to. our humble boat, the draft kings. thundered up. on this big sports. Tuesday, October 27th, 2026. This sports. program begins now. football. >> IT IS THE GREATEST. WEEK seven of the. NFL season wrapped up last night in. Philadelphia as the Dallas Cowboys put. it on the Philadelphia Eagles. Into the. second half, it became a little bit of a.
runaway early for the Philadelphia. Eagles. Saquon Barkley was back after a. hamstring uh strain and then he would. hurt himself again. We all saw it. happen. Saquon Barkley incredibly. explosive. Even he at his 70% level is. better than most people at their 100%. because of how damn good of a running. back he is. And early in this prime time. Monday Night Football NFC East clash, you know, winner of this game would be. one and a half games out of leading the. division. Giants have a buy and then two. division games on the other side. So JJ. McCarthy era, if it continues to go.
well, the Giants remain in the driver's. seat. If they lose a couple games, there's a chance winner of this game. could go get it early. We thought, holy. hell, Tanner McKe is going to be able to. give the rock Saquon Barkley. And then. there was a couple times where it looked. like he was maybe dragging his leg right. there. He'd walk off of the next drive. Looked like he was a little bit slow. He. said he had something happen to his back. and his hamstring. And then that was. really when a lot of us gave up hope. Dann McKe gave up a little bit of fight. But the Dallas Cowboys did some stuff. that we expect from the Dallas Cowboys. CD8. Dak Prescott won crazy. Javvante. Williams had a hell of a night and. George Pickkins has one of the greatest.
catches we have seen this season. the. ability to get his feet in there, both. of them, is just absolute masterclass in. artistry of body control. GP is a freak. and whenever he's on, he's on. And he. was challenged a little bit this week. because they were saying he wasn't. blocking. He wasn't giving his best. effort. A lot of the team was challenged. and they showed up and delivered. Are. the Dallas Cowboys now going to go on a. run in the NFC East? The defense proved. that they're not complete ass or shite. Joey Porter Jr. played phenomenal. The. offense was able to get the job done. The Philadelphia Eagles lose. Is that a.
fire sail? Oh. Dallas Cowboys back in it in that NFC. East that we think is all absolute. shight. They delivered a hell of a game. Felt big. I was lucky to be there. The. environment was electrifying. Getting a. chance to chat with Jerry Jones in uh. Monday Night Countdowns. First time I've. ever talked to him. First time I've ever. talked to Jerry. I've seen him act. I've. seen him do some business. I've seen him. make some great decisions. I've seen him. make some terrible decisions. I've. learned about him from high school. >> Yeah. What's going on over here? >> I know a lot about this guy. I've. studied his American dream story, his.
billionaire riches, his going allin and. uh one of my favorite quotes from Jerry. uh I was watching I think I was in high. school when it happened. He was doing. some sit down uh maybe with Joe Buck at. the time or something and he said, "You. know, there's some people who see that. water in front of the green and it's a. par five and they decide to go ahead and. lay that thing up and then they're going. to chip over and they're going to try to. tool putt to get this par." I go for the. green every [ __ ] time. And I've never. heard somebody relate to me more that. has had success. He goes all in with the. Dallas Cowboys, turns it into this.
massive brand, becomes this mogul, becomes this man who's notorious for. making big, brash, bold decisions, and. be very vocal about it. So, getting a. chance to chat with him was very cool. I. will say he did he does know of our. program. I think he uh says he has. watched it before. He's been very kind. And maybe we get him on show. >> Great. need Jerry Jones in person on the. show, but him talking about what they've. done in the past against a backup. quarterback and his optimism about what. this year can be uh felt good for the. Dallas Cowboys after a couple miserable. weeks down there. Even an employee was.
talking [ __ ] on Dak after a game a. couple weeks ago. >> Feels a little bit different now for. them. And the NFL is always brewing. College football has another weekend. ahead that's going to highlight the. Indiana Hooers as Minnesota comes to. town. College Game Day will be down in. Bloomington. We have Reese Davis joining. us here in about 30 minutes or so for. Reese's pieces from the past weekend in. college football. There's a lot to talk. about. It is chaos. What's his AP top. 25? He'll show it to us and review it to. us. And then we'll also have one half of. the hammer cowboy AP tones above average.
poll debut as well. There's been a. little bit of movement around some uh. lower areas, but up at the top feels. like everybody kind of agrees with one. thing and that's the uh the U might be. all the way back. the one in Miami. The. toxic tables here at Boston Connor and. at Tai Schmidt con man teams last night. we thought were shite put on a hell of a. game. Felt like there was fireworks. Felt like the Philadelphia Eagles had a. chance and then once the Dallas Cowboys. started pulling away, Oversh made it a. highlight show. The offense was.
spectacular. Felt like it was fireworks. even though it got ugly late there. >> Yeah, early on yesterday I think I said. to the boys, "Hey, this might be an ugly. 1714 game. you haven't seen much from. Dallas to make you think that they can. really go. And then Philly, obviously, they're kind of depleted from injury and. trades and things like that. And then. the Cowboys do what I think we all think. they could do throughout the entire. year. You know, they have such a. complete offense that when it doesn't. look like it did last night, you're kind. of shocked. But when CD and Pickkins and. Javvante are going the way they are,
they really didn't even use Jake. Ferguson that much, which I know is a. player that a lot of Cowboys fans don't. love too much right now, but he was. blocking his ass off on that play right. there. He blocks three different guys. He's blocking a different guy into the. end zone. I mean, it it was remarkable. to watch them do their thing. And then. defensively, it's been tough, you could. say. But even just holding the team to. 21 points wasn't so bad. >> One half of the hammer down. All right, Pete, Tone, cannot wait uh to hear about. your poll and your thoughts on the. gambling last night. But before you get.
into the defense, let's bring in. nine-year NFL vet Darius J. Butler. Debbutch, obviously you played every. single position in secondary. What did. you see from the Dallas Cowboys defense. last night that makes you say hold the. phone? I forgot Quinnon Williams was. such a game record. He was in there. doing his thing, doing his dance, which. we certainly love. Joey Porter Jr. seemed to be locked down out there doing. his thing. Do we like where the Dallas. Cowboys defense was last night or. >> what Troy Aman said? Uh, pretty much. what Treyman said. They they I mean they. won the game that they were supposed to. win, but I mean the last two times they.
were out there, they didn't. So that's. has to be a good feeling for them. And. like you mentioned earlier with the. Giants having a firm hold on the number. one spot right now was almost like a. must-win. So it felt much bigger uh than. most games at this point in the season. But I mean if this Dallas Cowboys team. uh specifically talking about the. defense can stay healthy. You saw that. fantastic play from Overshong. Like. that's an unbelievable play from anybody. on defense, especially a linebacker. he. can make splash plays when he's out. there healthy. Uh availability has been. his thing. Quinnon Williams, you. mentioned it. Uh Von Miller, saw you uh. dab him up, talk to him a little bit.
before the game, making plays. That'll. be good for them. JPJ, you know, them. getting JPJ. Uh Joey Porter Jr., he's. been fantastic for that secondary. Caleb. DS can stay healthy and start making the. plays that we expect them play. They. have the pieces. Christian Parker Pton. came out of retirement. I expect them to. figure out at some point in this season. And then all those weapons on offense, I. expect them to have fireworks, especially if they can have any. semblance of this run game that they had. last night with Javvante Williams. So. the Cowboys can be just like we say. every offseason going into the season, they can be that team that can make a.
run, but if they they got to start. hitting strides and at some point they. got to start doing it on all phases of. the game. >> Yeah. Can they be consistent? You know, that's that's kind of the question. I. forgot Brandon Aubry is the best kicker. in NFL history at this point. Now, Adam. Venitary, the GOAT, I will say best. kicker of all time, though at this date, Brandon Aubrey, guy who comes in as a uh. soccer player, then he was in the US. XFL. >> Mhm. That's right. >> Oh, yeah, he was. >> Couple years. That's it. >> I don't remember which one it was. >> 100% on me. Great soccer player, though.
Gets in there, does his thing, goes to. the Dallas Cowboys, just never misses. And watching him warm up last night was. fun. >> Getting a chance just kind of watch him. do his thing. So casual, dude. Just. absolutely casual. And in those big. games, at some point you're going to. need your kicker to make a kick. Absolutely. >> It's like they got the kicker, >> they got the offense. >> The defense is the biggest question. mark, but you got names across the board. over there. So, you would assume at some. point, >> I mean, offensively, too, like they have. the pieces and the players, but they. haven't shown that production week in. and week out. So, I mean, it's all a.
question mark right now, honestly, with. the Cowboys. And it was funny when um I. was SVP that asked Troy like, "Hey, you. know, what do you take away from?" He. was ah, you know, not that's kind of. what they were supposed to be cuz the. Eagles team were depleted. But we see it. every week in the NFL, whether it's a. backup quarterback or some uh star. players out and you're like, okay, this. team, their favorite by six going to and. they somehow some way they figure out. how to either make it a game or actually. win the game. So to come out and win a. game like you're supposed to, that also. feels good as a locker room and then at. some point you're going to be. challenged. >> Yeah. And Shotty was challenged a lot.
>> Oh yeah. >> Shotty was challenged a lot. They were. saying he was uh a guy didn't know how. to call plays. His prime time record was. obviously put on display. 17-1 in prime. We see the Cowboys a lot in prime time. >> Oh, yeah. >> Shotty to be 17-1. I don't know how that. wasn't really talked about until last. night. And then he does what a. two-minute uh or four-minute press. conference when it's normally 10. minutes. It's like I like Shotty with a. little bit of revenge, a little bit of. spite, a little bit of a chip on his. shoulder. People wondering if he can get. the job done as a head coach for the. first time. Another thing Jerry said.
last night is I tell I'm very hands-on. I ask him if he's hands off in middle. season. Oh, my hands on. you think I'm. he said you know me. I'm in there pal he said I asked him if. his dad you thought ever got any. criticism you know if that's part of the. job or not he said he got his ass. attacked basically is how he described. it he's like that's what I reminded. Shotty it's like he has faith in Shotty. that team loved Shotty and remember we. thought going into the season the team. were running extra sprints. >> you remember they were choosing to run. extra sprints whenever they were uh at.
training camp with the Los Angeles Rams. now the Rams at that time were preparing. for that Australia game that you know so. they were living a little different life. at that point but the Cowboys were. running sprints felt like everybody had. Shotti's back media and people started. attacking Shotti a good bit for being a. play caller head coach a leader how is. this team like this they come out and. show up in a big way against a division. rival I think that was a good win no. matter who was playing for the Eagles. Jaylen Carter where's he been. >> where's that defense been. >> what it like that is for real I do. wonder what the hell's going on over.
there now once again Dallas Cowboys. offense there was a couple plays there I. don't think any defense would be able to. stop That catch from George Pickkins. Hilarious. Ridiculous. >> I mean, just absolutely hysterical that. he's has that type of body control. And. the whenever there was like a slither of. other color in between the white he did. that on purpose, first of all, but for. it to work out that perfectly on that. night with everything that was being. said about George as well. I like the. way this team rallies. I like the way. they battled together. Ty, I'm a I'm a. big fan of what this Cowboys team did. last night. >> Yeah. I mean, you know, for all of our. sakes, it'd be nice if they could kind.
of put things together because like you. said, we are going to be seeing them on. prime time kind of no matter what the. case is. Uh so, you know, it they're. just they're they're you know, Dr. Jackekal and and Mr. Hyde, it's one week. they look great, the next week they look. like absolute [ __ ] But on the other. side of it, like with the Eagles, I. mean, you talk about the the sky just. completely falling. Like I know this. won't happen and it's nothing against. him, but with the way that division is. like if if you're Philadelphia, we. talked to Shifty yesterday and he said, you know, like they're never going to be. sellers with Howie Roseman. I know Kirk.
is going to continue to start like they. should they should call the Raiders. about seeing if they can get Kirk. Cousins because the the season's not. over with how that division is, but no. offense to Tanner McKe, but it's just. like they they they're probably trending. towards a top 10, top five pick if he. continues to be their quarterback. They. need to do something. And who knows, you. know, if they trade for like a Kirk. Cousins, maybe Saquon's hammy or. whatever he's dealing with, maybe that's. not an 8week injury. Maybe that's only a. four-week injury. You know, I just like. if they really are going to kind of go.
after things here, like it it it seems. crazy to think that the Eagles are at. before uh Halloween, like their season's. over already. >> Kurt Cousins is the starter for the Las. Vegas Raiders. Clint Kubak has come out. and shut down all Fernando Mendoza. rumors. Here he is. >> All right. All right. Hey, I just want. to start with uh you know, I want to let. you guys know that Kirk is our starting. quarterback. There is no controversy. there. He's playing at a very high level. and uh he's got to continue to do that. for us to win and we got to keep helping.
uh helping, you know, all the areas. around him. So, um excited for him to go. play here against the Jets. And I'll. take any of your questions. >> You said they have a plan for Fernando, but not a timeline. >> Mhm. >> I like that because that's kind of. ominous. >> Yeah, >> we have a plan, but not a timeline. genius. >> We got ideas, but not necessarily a. strategy. We'll know when we know. On. that note, Kirk Cousins, our starting. quarterback, he's going out there again. Kirk had to answer questions as if he. wasn't going to be the starter anymore. He handled it professionally, but to.
your point, he can operate on offense. You know, he he can get you down the. field if you need to. And whenever you. mentioned Tanner McKe, >> Debb shook his head. Did you see him? I. don't know if you saw him. He did a big. >> No, I mean, he's in a tough spot. You. know, last week last week was his first. start in like a nonweek 18 team kind of. throwaway game and then you second start. comes on prime time against the visual. and honest he didn't play that bad, you. know, especially without if Saquon stays. in that game. I think this is a good. game that comes down to probably like a. two-minute drive. So, he didn't play.
terrible. There's upside. No Devonte. You got you don't have your top weapons. out weapon out there on the outside. Uh. you do have Joe Joe Milton behind him. Uh but yeah, I think I think Tanner McKe. will be okay. I don't think he's the. issue. Like you said, it's the guy. When. you have a backup quarter, what do they. put up? 21 points. You got a backup. quarterback in you. You got, you know, however many million dollars on that. front line. You got Coupe who's playing. for money. You got Quan Mitchell, who's. one of the best corners in the league. Those are the guys that have to step up. We get 20 point 21 points with a backup. quarterback. We got to find a way to win. this game. Easier said than done, but um.
yeah, I don't think Tanner McKe is the. big problem. Even that picky threw, that. was an unbelievable play by Oversh. So. Tanner McKe's He's not. >> Yeah, he saw the problem. Tanner McKe, >> you're not leading him to. >> Yeah, he ain't the solution either. You. know what I mean? That's I guess that's. where we're at right now. >> Yeah. Well, the Philadelphia Eagles in. the city of Philadelphia. I think you. need to have a solution right now all. the time else. >> So, it's not like they're going to be. waiting around. The fans aren't at. least. You know, we mentioned yesterday, Sher, are the Eagles going to be sellers. if they lose tonight? And he flipped. that quickly and said, "No, they're. buyers actually. Always buying, always,
always looking for a good deal to buy to. buy to buy to buy." It's like this year. doesn't seemingly go that way. And to. your point about the defense, Philly is. allowing 371 yards a game. That's most. by any Vic Fangio defense since the 2003. Texans. And remember when he was with. the Dolphins, they were saying it was. Fangi over. >> He he goes to the Eagles wins. >> Mhm. >> Wins wins. >> Hate everybody. >> Yeah, that's what's crazy. >> Wins wins. >> They have all this money on on defense. And like Javvante Williams, if there's. one thing, you know, Cooperene, you. mentioned he's playing for money.
Quinnon Mitchell is great, but like CD. Lam and George Pickkins, they're they're. both, you know, top 10, top 15. receivers. on their D line. They have. all this money and they spent everywhere. and you know they spent first round. picks across their Dline. You mentioned. how often you need four you know first. rounders on your Dline just because of. how teams are. I mean one of the top. fives yesterday was the pound the rock. era's back and for for them to run all. over the Eagles the way they did. They. paid their middle Zack Bond their middle.
linebacker. >> MVP. He was defensive player of the year. conversation. >> Yeah. And then Jordan Davis and Jaylen. Carter and Nolan all these guys and for. them to get run over like that like. that's what's so shocking with the fi. over defense which it now may be. >> to your point 97 rush yards between the. tackles last night for Javvante. Okay, right down the throat. Here we go. We're. doing this careerhigh and everything. else. Congratulations to him. We were. right behind him in the warm-ups and you. know getting a chance to walk on the. field there uh for Monday Night. Countdown and just see you know just.
kind of like see you can feel you know. you can kind of feel it can't you? You. can feel it. You can you can feel You. really can chase it, too. Whenever you. go, you forget how big Dak Prescott is. >> Yep. >> I mean, this dude's calves, >> like actual. >> I don't know what the right sports ball. would be. Maybe a softball, >> swim softball, huge. And then quad's. gigantic. And then. >> you forget just how big of a like a. freak athlete Dak Prescott is because. all he does is spin it all the time. nowadays. But it was hard not to just.
look at him and be like, Dak is un he. might run. It feels like he can use his. legs, especially in a desperation night, which they it was a must-win for the. Dallas Cowboys. He does get a couple. scampers, scores on the ground. It's. like they can still unlock that entire. aspect of that offense if they want. Might not because of the hit obviously. and and everything that has happened to. him. And he's a a mature a vet now and. he can throw the ball so well, but it's. like they are wide open whenever it. comes to what they can do offensively, which is why everybody was asking Shotty. why the hell they weren't. Yeah. And if. they can get it figured out going.
forward, Dallas Cowboys could be a. problem. There's uh some magic happening. in the baseball world. Ty Schmidt, the. Milwaukee Brewers, >> the Miz team. >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> Skipper Murphy's team. >> Big Skip. >> I would say Friends of the Program. McGill's team. >> Yeah. >> Milwaukee Brewers. I'd say friends of. the program. >> Yeah. >> They're about to sweep the World Series. Is We turned the game on last night and. uh as we're flying back, it was 7. nothing already. I didn't know that I. missed a fifth inning. That was just.
with two outs, a run show for the. Milwaukee Brewers. How are they so good? Why are they so dominant? And I thought. Tampa was going to be a good team. because they play similar styles. It. feels like Milwaukee style is just. better than everybody else's style. Ty, how do we get to this point of them. sweeping and sweeping and sweeping their. way to a World Series? >> Yeah, I was shocked that it's been this. dominant for them. Uh, one thing, you. know, before we get into even the. baseball is the Brewers fans traveling. down to the Trop uh, in Florida, which. is a very tough place to play and they. completely took it over. So, you know,
like it it was a it was basically a. Brewers home game on the road, which is. incredibly tough to do. But in terms of. like why their style is working, they're. just relentless. I mean, it just it. doesn't matter what you do. In the first. couple games of the series, you know, Tampa would score a run, the Brewers. immediately respond and score one. So, you think you have a little bit of a. cushion and then it's like, okay, we got. to kind of tighten back up here. And. then it's kind of what we we talked. about all season with a lot of teams. want to hit the home runs. You look at. the, you know, they had seven. consecutive hits with two outs, scored a.
bunch of runs, and none of them were, you know, they're not ripping balls into. the gap. They're not hitting homers. They're just finding holes everywhere. One through nine, everyone in their. order contributes, can hit can hit the. ball to all parts of the field. They. just they don't make mistakes. We kind. of knew their offense was capable of. this. And then the big thing is their. pitching has been absolutely lights out. Like everyone wants to talk about the. Miz and rightfully so, but he, you know, it's not like he didn't throw eight. innings in his first start. Their. bullpen has come in and it's one of.
those things with the Brewers because. they don't make any mistakes. When they. get out to leads like this and they. start rolling, like they are inevitable. It's very, very difficult to stage a big. comeback on them. So, they're just. they're rolling right now. And it does. feel like, boy, Tampa Tampa's going to. need a miracle to come back. >> Okay, so I know the percentages are low. Speaking of percentages, talk to me uh. like how Hembo has to speak to Dan. Olowski. >> Mhm. >> We're going to be here all day. >> No, at least. >> that was quarterback. Jeez, >> I know.
>> God damn. >> Yeah. Hey, that one in the back pocket. next time. >> Just swallow it. >> Yeah, exactly. He's brave. >> He was out, too. >> He's brave. He's out of there. >> Left his jacket still. >> Guys, guys, question. Yeah, >> that's all it takes. >> Yeah. And then hand to God. He said, "Let me get let me get [ __ ] God in. this.". >> Next time we say no, you don't ask. >> Don't ask a question, Dan. We've learned. from this 100% of the time you do this, Dan. >> It becomes a terrible thing for you. But. if you could talk to me like that's We. love Dano, by the way. >> Yeah, >> he's a man. >> My quarterback. >> I don't love him.
>> Huh? >> I don't. >> All right. >> I'm going be honest about. >> Hey, now you're a lot. I appreciate you. doing it. >> Percentages are still in his favor, though. Most of us love him. >> We love him. Yeah, we love him. We. understand where you're coming from. >> People love him. >> I don't Yeah, we are the people. Yeah, we love him. >> Speak to me like Hebell has to speak to. Danowski about percentages. >> Okay. >> And making everything comparable to each. other out of 100 just in case, you know, got. >> so you can kind of do that. Yep. >> Why doesn't everybody do what Brewers. do? I watched this video from the. outfield um that they put on social and.
it's like sick video by the way. But. what we're capable of doing right now. with editing technology and the brains. that people have and the creativity like. unbelievable video has kept me engaged. I watch all their hits from the fifth. inning. Boom. Right here in this I think. that's the only air right there. Every. other hit feels like it was like. perfectly placed. So can everybody that. makes it to them I was at the Utah Jazz. game. >> Mhm. >> Went out early for the warm-ups. Shout. out to Ryan Smith inviting the entire. college game day crew out there to come. experience the Jazz. We got a chance to.
watch them warm up. These guys don't. miss. Okay. Every NBA, not every NBA. guy. We watched uh who was it for the. Knicks miss. >> You know, we. >> Oh, he he missed a bunch. But we were. watching the warm-ups. They made. Everybody on the court was making every. single shot. Just weren't jumping. Wasn't a jump shot. We're just like kind. of just warming up. Everything was. falling. If you make it to MLB, everybody can make contact with the. baseball. So why doesn't everybody play. the course, if you will, and just get.
make contact? Do they just have much. better hitters than everybody else? This. is an abnormal thing to be able to make. contact the way that they do in. consecutive ways that they do. Like why. why are they seemingly playing small. ball? But why is small ball not the way. to do baseball? Like that that is a real. I don't understand it. I think is small. ball not easy to do or can everybody in. >> everyone is capable of doing what. they're doing because yes most if you. make it to the MLB you can hit it to all. parts of the field. Now, obviously. things change and it gets harder when.
you got a guy who's throwing 100 miles. an hour and, you know, it doesn't really. work out like that. But this is largely. like an analytics-based philosophy thing. that kind of changed maybe like 10 years. ago in the MLB where everything they. they wanted, you know, you always hear. like exit velocity and stuff like that. So like they want and launch angle, they. wanted teams to hit the ball harder and. hit it higher to try to hit more home. runs because that a lot of a lot of. teams are just built that way. They. spent all the money and a lot of it has. to do with like ball ballpark. dimensions. Like like I mentioned.
earlier, for example, the Yankees, they. have a short porch to right field. So, which is why they have eight left-handed. hitters in their lineup. Their basic. their strategy is we're going to. bludgeon you to death. Like, we're we're. going to try to just assault you with. home run after home run after home run. because it plays to our lineup and our. home field homefield park. The Brewers. don't have a bunch of home run hitters. They don't have that luxury. So like. last night they batted 390. So if we. want to do the statistical thing, out of.
every 100 at bats they're getting 39. hits. We always talk about in baseball. if you bat 300 you're a Hall of Famer. I. don't know what the average is off the. top of my head, but I would guess the. league average for teams, you know, every 100 at bats is somewhere around. probably like 240. Like so most teams. are not putting the ball in play the way. they are. They're trying to hit a bunch. of home runs, which typically yields to. more strikeouts or pop outs or stuff. like that. They're perfectly fine with. hitting these little bloopers down the.
right field line, down the left field. line. Even. >> that's a completely different swing. though, right? It's not like they're. swinging for home runs, >> not swinging out of your shoes. >> It's not like NBA like how it's going to. threes. It's layups and threes. Like. they don't want the mid-r like we grew. up with great mid-range players and then. the analytics said, "Hey, that that's. not a good shot anymore. Get to the rim. either get fouled, get a dunk, get a. layup, or shoot a three. You know, the. Warriors kind of changed that that I. guess turning into their money ball. But. that's kind of just how sports have just. unfortunately taken the turn. That's why.
her Herby, you know, is all pissed off. about how the game has been. >> But I assume monkey see monkey do just. like in the NFL, how we've gotten back. to a run game because the Eagles, believe it or not, few years back, Saquon Barkley had they had more rushes. than passes on the season and Saquon won. them the Super Bowl. So, they changed. there. Because the Brewers win here, will more Okay, final question just. about the operations. Home run hitters. the best hitters in the world, right? We. assume. >> some. >> Okay. So, Schwarbo,
>> he's going to hit 50 home runs a year. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Which is what they're paying him to do. >> Okay. Schwarbo could shorten his swing. just to make contact. Like, is that a. different swing? Like going for a home. run versus like just going for contact? Like Schwarbo could if he wanted to. He. could make contact every single time. we. assume because how good of a batter he. is. >> for the most part. So you'll hear a lot. of times when like a guy has two strikes. on him, you shorten up your swing, you. choke up on the bat and you go with like. a contact approach as opposed to. >> and that's what the Brewers are doing. >> only they're not doing it when it's just.
02. >> They're doing it all the time. >> Their whole philosophy is put the ball. in play like let's put pressure on the. other team. Let's put pressure on the. defense. So yeah, it is money ball. essentially. And like the so the in the. fifth inning when it's when they're up 2. and the bases are loaded like Bryce Tang. hits that one up the middle and this is. just like the you know the margins of. baseball too. if that doesn't get by and. he gets that, you know, then you get out. of that inning and they don't score two. runs. But like that's a contact. approach. Whereas a lot of teams, hey, we have the bases loaded here. Like.
let's try to break open this game. Like. we we don't want just maybe one run on a. seeing eye single here. Like let's try. to hit something really hard into the. gap or hit a homer and then guess what? We're not up three nothing. We're up 6. nothing. And then they're screwed. essentially trying to come. >> this swing right here when the shorts. stop is kind of towards second base and. he's kind of just slapping it the other. not this one, the one right after it. and he's kind of just slapping it the. other way is the perfect depiction of. what the Brewers do and kind of how they. win these these games. This swing that's. about to come up now. I can't remember. who is at the plate and doing it, but. he's just kind of little bit like a.
little slap the other way like cuz you. can see them holding the runner on that. situation and they're kind of playing. the pool cuz he's a lefty in that. situation, but he just kind of slaps it. the other way. >> Yeah. But slapping it is an easier swing. than a home run swing because of how. pure you have to be able to hit the. ball. Yeah. >> And they are saying, "Hey, listen. >> Let's get on base and then let them work. this thing." Right. And they're not. telling guys like, "Hey, don't hit a. homer." You know, like these guys did. hit one. >> Yeah. These guys are all good enough. where like if they get a fast ball. groove down the middle and they put a. good swing on it. Every one of these. guys is capable of hitting a homer. But.
it's like the like that situation. pitches away. It's like, hey, don't try. to do too much with this. Like you don't. need to pull this down the line. You see. where the shorts stops playing. He's. holding the guy on at second. Poke this. one through the infield. We'll score a. run and we'll just keep going and keep. going and keep going. But teams won't do. that. Like the Yankees for example, like. they would have to change everything. about their lineup and who they have and. their personnel. They're just teams have. kind of pigeon holed themselves into. like if you wanted to basically blow. everything up and have this approach,
they would drastically have to change. what they do in the minor leagues, what. they look for when they draft people. Like it's it it literally is like an. entire organizational philosophy. >> Wow. Paul Hembo has some stats about. manufactured runs in the postseason over. the years. And this might be the trend. here. But to do the trend, it sounds. like you have to do a lot of. >> Oh, yeah. >> massive sweeping changes to an entire. organization. 2020. Hey, we like the big. ball here. Let's go ahead and do this. Probably when the Yankees and teams that. have home run hitters are winning in. this time or No.
>> Yeah. So, what was it? 20 was it 2021 or. 2022 that it was Yankees Dodgers World. Series? >> So, here we go. 2020, 2021, 2022, and. then all of a sudden manufactured runs. take a huge leap. 2026, I would assume. this is Brewers race, right? This is. kind of how they played. They're playing. more games, so obviously more runs out. >> Two teams in the MLB in batting average. >> and manufactured runs are. >> so like same deal like single and then. maybe bunting a guy over or like you. know, a guy steals second and then you. move them over. It's not just like extra. base hits and it's literally.
manufacturing a run a runner around the. bases with multiple different ways. whether it's you know singles, bunts, sacrifice hits like stuff like that. >> Steals where steels come into this. entire thing cuz these are they they. both run the bases really well here and. the Brewers are incredible on the base. >> So same same deal like. >> so they're just out efering. They're. >> that's a big that's a big part of it too. cuz like you can see I know this was. going around last night. It was uh later. part in the game. There's two outs and. it's just a routine popup that ends the. the inning for the Brewers when they're. at the at the plate. South Freelick, one.
of their outfielders, he rounds second. base like it's a ball hit into the gap. Like he's trying to like like he's. trying to score, which most most teams. you see a guy like in that situation, it's like, "All right, this is a can of. corn. The inning's over. This guy's just. going to lolly gag and we're done with. it." He's busting his ass like, "Hey, if. this thing does drop, like I need to. score." And by and large, teams just. don't play like that. But the Brewers do. in large part because of Pat Murphy and. just the way he is and their philosophy. and because they don't have like they're.
they have a chip on their shoulder. because they know they're not talked. about in the same sense that the Yankees. and the Dodgers are where it's like they. have all these massive superstars and. household names. It's it's just not like. that. >> And when's the next game? >> Tonight. >> Okay. Tonight, game four, 8:00 on Fox. Haven't named a pitcher yet, I believe. The Brewers, right? >> Correct. Correct. >> Okay. So that's Christian stud. Been. there forever. >> Yes, >> he he's actually been there forever. >> His entire career. >> Legend. I think he he did a little bit. of a run doing more media and stuff like. that. Everybody loved him, right?
>> Yeah, he's great. >> Yeah. Been in the league a long time. Yes. Been good for a long time. >> They do the C patches. >> Some teams do. >> What? Old school. >> Pretty cool. >> Hey, small ball teams do that. >> Hey, that's our this our skip. >> That's our skipper right there. Yep. >> Okay. You got to follow that guy. Contrus can hit the big one, right? He's. a guy that can absolutely hit bombs. Junior Commano, he's the one that broke. the LED board before game one of this. World Series. Hasn't happened. Obviously, haven't been able to get to. win. Then Griffin Jax is on a a mind for. the race. Who's that? What should we. expect from him?
>> He's kind of like a quasi like in. between starter bullpen guy. He's. pitched in the bullpen in his career. So. like he probably more than likely will. throw like four innings. If he's really. really mowing them down, maybe he throws. five, but they're going to it's going to. be kind of like a bullpen game for the. uh the Rays. >> And what's the Brewers? probably the same deal. I I I know uh. Brandon Woodruff who was a really good. starter for them. He pitched last night. He was hurt. I think the plan initially. if he didn't go last night was for him. to be the opener today. But they'll. probably do the same thing. Just go cuz.
they have the luxury now of being up 2. So you can kind of play around with. things because eventually if the Rays do. get a couple, the Miz is waiting for. them. >> Yeah. 3 0. So they could literally dance. to whatever they need to do. Miz. figuring out when you put him in. Can is. that what they're doing right now or is. everything He won't He won't pitch. He. No, he won't pitch. >> Have his team ever come back from 3 0? >> One time. >> One time. >> Who was that? >> Big Poppy. >> Do you know? >> Yeah, I do know. You son of a [ __ ]. >> Wasn't in the World Series though.
>> Oh, world. So, never in the World. Series. >> No. >> Oh, okay. >> NBA Finals. What? Braun. >> 31 3-1. >> Has anybody in game seven game series in. the title come? >> A couple years ago, Oilers against the. Panthers, but they lost game seven. >> Yeah. made it to game seven. >> Yeah. >> Heartbreak, dude. McDavid. >> Yeah. >> Oh my god. >> Celtics. Celtics against the Heat in the. Eastern Conference Finals. Forced game. seven. Lost game seven. >> How about championship series of game. seven? >> Toronto Maple Leafs in 1942 against the.
Detroit Red Wings. >> Oh no. >> The Maple Buds. >> Uh MLB knows ALCS. No team has ever done. it. Yeah. So in championships since. 1942. >> Wow. >> This has never happened. stuff to do. that sweeps. They they also are joining. ML baseball royalty amongst teams to. have multiple 100 win series or 100 win. seasons and also multiple sweeps through. the postseason. 2022 Astros. >> That still counts. No, no, no.
>> 1998 Yankees and the 1976 Reds. That's. good company there. >> I believe the Brewers have only lost one. game in the postseason, I think. >> So, they would have actual. >> kind of like the Knicks. They did. They're running through [ __ ]. >> Yeah. Getting a break, too. And is it. rust or is it rust? And then they've. just come out. No, no, we're just better. than you at baseball. That's kind of. what this is. Good for them. I'm happy. for their fans. They packed out their. own stadium whenever the game was down. in Tampa. And they packed out Tampa as. well. You know, for a small market, the.
support's real. And uh I can't wait for. their parade if it happens. It hasn't. been since 194. >> Well, when it happens, percentages. >> Well, well, percentages don't always. make sense, dude. No. >> We talked to ours this morning. just get. a little clarifification on everything. he was saying and how he feels today. verse yesterday after reading. everything. >> I just want to let you guys know Dan. feels pretty good about where he was. yesterday. >> And he said there's a lot of people who. feel the way I feel and then we're. breaking down to them how you can add. context to percentages. >> which is what.
>> is kind of needed. >> to describe what percentages are and he. said exactly my point. >> So Dano's got hot back. He's Milwaukee. Brewers. >> That's right. Yeah. Dano is the. Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth inning. last night. That's Dan. >> at all time. Choking up. >> at all time. Yeah. >> Two strikes. I'm just slap this thing. >> Slapping it. >> I'm just slap this thing on here. And he. goes, "Oh, watch this. My next trick.". >> Yeah. >> Hits it the other way. It's like, "Wow.". Keep them guessing. >> Oh, man. >> I love D, dude. I I love Thank you. This. is back from the whiffle ball days. >> Yeah. Sonetta temple.
>> You guys are hitting bombs with these. >> Nick. >> whiffle ball. I forgot Nick Moropper. >> He was because that I think deck hockey. kind of like helped him with this. I. don't think he ever played baseball. I'm. not. >> No, no, no. Good at all the uh fake. sports. >> Whoa, whoa, whoa. >> The fake version of real sports. >> Whiffle ball. Deck hockey. >> Let's see. Um. >> flag football. >> Flag football. >> Sick at flag football. >> Unbelievable. Laser tag. Yeah, fake war.
>> Yeah, you're right. He is very good. Yeah, paintball as well. Yeah, you're. right. I forgot all about that. Okay. Uh, thank you boys for the MLB. breakdown. I feel like we really did it. there. >> I learned a lot about baseball. >> Yeah, I learned a lot about baseball and. why the Brewers are so damn good and. that they are very good. >> Yes. >> And that this team will continue to do. this next year, year after, year after. >> Yeah. God willing, uh, it'll happen next. year. Yeah. But, um, uh, yeah. No, it. >> What was that? Well, >> well, it might be seen. >> Oh, no. Baseball. >> Yeah, but the Brewers winning, right? >> Yeah. See, I thought that was the case.
And now, uh, people who are really in. the weeds on that stuff are like, "Yeah, that's cute." But like that doesn't mean. [ __ ] Like guess what? Like the owners. will find another like they want a. salary cap pretty bad. And uh I don't. think the players do. So I think that is. kind of a rock and a hard place that I I. just don't know if we're going to be. able to get past that one. >> Well, then maybe they sign like a. three-year extendo. >> That'd be great. >> Deal. Carry over this current deal. >> Maybe they can down the road. We'll talk. about this in a couple years. >> Yeah. We need a purgatory period here to.
kind of figure this out cuz you guys. have said a lot of stuff we don't agree. with. And we have examples now of it not. being right. But what you guys are. saying not so maybe we just kick the can. down the road. Do a little two-year. extendo here on the current one so we. don't lose baseball whenever baseball. could continue to get hot, especially at. the Milwaukee Brewers showcase that you. could play any style of baseball and. win. The new rules they put in I think. have made baseball better. >> I agree. >> I think the timing is better. I think. it's electric. I think World Baseball. Classic, even though it potentially took. out an entire roster of players for. United States of America across the.
>> Got people excited. >> Yeah, definitely love baseball can't. have a stoppage. I hope they all know. that. Let's go away from MLB. Let's go. to the number two sport in America. Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to talk. about college football, who had another. magical, unpredictable weekend, which. seems to be the norm for this beautiful. sport. Joining us now is a man who will. break it all down. He's the host of. College Game Day, both football and. basketball. One of the most professional. lads on Earth, ladies and gentlemen, Reese Davis. and Reese's pieces from. this weekend. >> Reese, >> how you doing, Ree? Good to see you, brother.
>> Good to see you guys, too. I enjoy the. baseball breakdown. Tai's all over it, man. All over the trends. I love it. >> I was about to say, you're a baseball. dad, right? I know you love baseball as. well. Uh, you followed it very closely. as your son had a lot of success playing. the baseball. And, uh, hold on, Reys. Reys. Reys, take down Reese's pieces. >> Okay. >> Okay. This ain't about this weekend. >> Uhoh. >> It's about right now in the future. Adam. Shar has reported Pro Bowl guard Quinton.
Nelson has been traded to the Seattle. Seahawks. >> Wow. >> Nelson is on an expiring contract and. the Colts are opting to get back to. draft capital now before they could lose. him in free agency. But an all-time Colt. now moves on to the Seahawks. Wow. Quint. Nelson, I would like to say to you, thank you for your service to the. Indianapolis Colts, buddy. Since day. one, you were dominant for us. You've. been a Pro Bowler literally since the. day you stepped foot into our city. I am. so sorry that you had 45 different. quarterbacks behind you and seemingly a. different system and terminology and.
voice every single year. What Quinton. Nelson did for the Colts was phenomenal. Quiet guy. I think at times he was. forced into a position to be a vocal. leader because we didn't really have. anybody else in the locker room. He. stepped up and did that for us. He's. dominant. He's physical. He'll fit in. with the Seattle Seahawks culture from. what we watched with Hard Knocks. I wish. we had 22 Quinton Nelson starting for. the Indianapolis Colts over the last. eight years that he's been here, but.
instead he was kind of stuck in a. situation where it was just a revolving. door behind him. And uh the only. non-revolving thing of his life is that. he was going to be in a Pro Bowl because. of how much his peers respect him. So he. heads out to the Seattle Seahawks who. just come off a prime time game where. they ran the rock very well. Yeah. and. where Sam Darnold now gets a pro bowler. John Schneider. builds up the team with the culture and. the people that he likes. First guy gone. now is Quinn. What do we get in return. is the huge conversation expiring.
contract. So, who knows what really. leverage? They're going to have to work. a new deal with Quenton that's going to. be worth a lot. And I believe the back. room is telling us we do have maybe some. details. >> compensation. >> We have some compensation here. Um. Tom Pelisero is reporting now. >> Okay. >> Right. >> Yeah. Arrow. >> Arrow has had a lot of news breaks in. the history of Tom Pelisera. >> Yes. >> There was one though recently about a.
very serious subject. >> Just a blatant lie. >> that kind of put us into some. interesting waters that none of us. really ever should have been in, >> you know. So that is that we appreciate. Tom service. He's reporting a 2027 third. round pick and a 2028 fifth round pick. Okay, so we get two picks in return, a. third rounder and a fifth rounder. We. still don't have a one. Okay, we still. don't have a one. Quentyn Nelson, really. good football player for a third and a. fifth on an expiring contract. I guess. the deal is the deal, D. But.
>> before we get back to Reese's pieces. from this weekend and Reese Davis, I'm. sure he has some thoughts on Quentyn. Nelson who was phenomenal for Notre Dame. for a long time. Uh, and also into the. NFL and he's a Jacksonville Jaguars fan. now, so he understands AFC South. football and Quent Nelson, how important. he was. I don't want to speak for you, Ree, but Quentyn Nelson was a pillar, one of the guys that was like going to. be good for our team every year. It felt. like now he's headed to Seattle. Your. thoughts on the move here now and what. this indicates maybe to the rest of the. Colts fans? >> Uh, not surprised. There was a question. if if uh you know the Urses would allow.
you know Ed D to kind of start making. these moves before the deadline and now. we have our answer. This is the first I. think domino to fall. Um wish obviously. wish we would have got a little more. than a third rounder especially after. Jurgens I believe went for a second. I I. thought you know Quint Nelson would be. in that conversation. We didn't have a. ton of leverage because we don't have we. have him on an expiring contract but. like you said he's been a great cult and. this is a the perfect pickup. Somebody. on the show, I believe yesterday, mentioned the Seahawks as being one of. the suitors for Quinton Nelson, and this. is a perfect pickup for them because the.
Seahawks, they are built on a dominant. run game, great defense, and then. getting the ball to Jackson Smith and. Jigba. So, this is a great great pick up. and signing for Brian Flurry and that. offense. Uh, once again, great thank you. for everything you did here, Quinton, and I wish him the best of luck and and. hopefully we do something with these. pieces and these resources that we have. now in the draft going forward. >> Quinton, actual stud. Makes sense that. the Seattle Seahawks won him. >> Oh, yeah. you know, like the way he goes. about doing his business, how he does. his business, and what he is every. single day. Now, this also is a big. thing about Ed, the assistant GM has not.
been named interim GM. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, I I have had people reach out. to me from building saying, >> "What does that even mean?". >> So, they didn't give him the interim GM. title. He is still assistant GM and head. of personnel. So, he still has his head. of personnel uh duty, assistant GM, but. I think he is in conversations with. everybody. But I had people from the. building say, "Give that a shot, please. Can you not just kill this guy?" And I'm. like,
>> "Sweats, >> why'd you show up like that?" He's he. did that every single game. They said he. does that every single game. He's from. Texas. This guy just wants to fish and. scout football. This This guy is just Is. he going to be a a GM somewhere someday? Yes. Everybody knows that. And I think. if you could just give him a shot here, he's not going to try to sabotage the. Indianapolis Colts. This is a huge. interview for him, not just for the. potentially the Colts, but also. everybody, if he's able to put the Colts. in a much better position right now than. they could be. All right. So, I kind. that did that made a lot of sense to me,
you know, that he would not try a shot. >> He said he would not try to kill the. Colts because maybe the rest of the NFL. would never give him a shot if I was. like, I never thought of that. I never. thought of that. He's like, and also. this he wants he gets a chance now to. potentially do what he's want he's not. going to try to he's going to try to do. as good as he possibly can right now. He. said to shoot. >> I'm like man I didn't even think of him. doing that. I just thought human nature. you fire my guy I want to you know. that's what I I thought he and they're. like can you just give this guy can we. give him a chance here maybe? Can you. can you see what he does? So this is the.
first move he makes. We get multiple. picks now. Okay. We we get multiple. picks and I think this is an indicator. of what's about to happen to the team in. the city in which you call home con man. >> Yeah. Very interesting. And you expect. now especially with this big trade of. Quinton Nelson being one of the top two. you would say between him and Jonathan. Taylor and of course the Forest Buckner. So more teams will start calling out. But you mentioned it for Seattle like. they have now Grace Zable and Quinton. Nelson what probably the best combo of. guards in the entire NFL. And then you. have Quinton Nelson, who you just. mentioned as well, proven every single.
year, professional, consistent, and now. he gets to be kind of the vet for a Gray. Zable. And they're getting Zack. Charbanet back. Like if you're the. Seattle Seahawks, you're you're thinking. now maybe the first couple weeks it was. pretty shaky. Now the Super Bowl run. again is back on. Like, hey, here we go. I wonder if this changed any odds as. well. >> Well, Schneider, okay, could a guard. changing odds would be crazy. I'd be. excited to see what that is. guard. drafted top 10 or whatever, top five, whatever we draft them. Oh, yeah. Also. crazy whenever it happened for Quentyn.
Nelson. Shfter uh tweeted this, which is. a good piece of information. Seattle was. poised to have five compensatory picks. in 2027 from the free agent losses of. Boyet, Kenneth Walker, Tariq Woolen, and. Kobe Bryant. They'll also receive a. third round pick after executive Nolan. Teasley became Minnesota's GM. That. flexibility now has allowed Seattle. Yeah. Yeah. What are these compensatory. picks? Oh, this is house money. Sick. They're the best. >> We're getting another guard. Let's go. ahead and do We can get Quint Nelson. Let's go ahead and send that out the. door. Now, they're gonna have to work a. deal with Quinton, though. Quinton's. already been paid. He's going to be at. the top of the market, whatever the. guard market is. And I assume John.
Schneider and whoever Quinton Nelson's. agent have already talked about that. Okay, that's the first of many, we. assume, for the Indianapolis Colts. Uh, Ed, good job getting two picks out of. that. Now, would we have wanted a first. round pick for that? Maybe three first. round picks. Definitely. >> Before we get back to Reed, too, I did. get a text from a certain somebody that. said it was Dan Orowski who said the. Seattle Seahawks will make a trade for. Quinn. Did Jan text you? >> Yes. He said me chef said it before. >> Baby D.
>> Hey, the percentages were low on that. though, Dan. Not that you know what that. means, but I do uh I do love it. We love. you, Dan. Okay, let's get back to Reed. Sorry about that, brother. That's huge. news here in Indianapolis. This is this. is life, though, in the NFL. And it. might be in college, too. It might be, you know, not trades. We're seeing these. guys now. Hey, uh, obviously we want. everybody to be healthy. Want everybody. everybody to be healthy. But it was like. Dante Moore now out for the rest of the. season had a concussion. We hope he.
feels good. Obviously, we hope he feels. better. Uh, but he had high NFL. projections last year. This year, I. don't know. You know, offense. coordinator has been relieved of his. duties. He was hired from within. I. think everybody said not that great. Dante Martin did not have a great season. though. Here at the beginning, they did. hang 80 some points on uh Portland State. maybe. Y. >> Mhm. I think so. There is highlights. there, but I don't know what happens to. his NFL value up or down or whatever it. is through this, but he's opting. basically, hey, I'm I'mma wait. I'm. going to do the NFL. I'm going to do the.
NFL. Used to see it with like bowl. games, right? Started having with bowl. games. Now it's going to happen. Kamario. uh Taylor down at Mississippi State, guy. who we all are huge fans of. He's. getting turf toe surgery to fix his turf. toe. We hope he's healthy. He's out for. the rest of the season. Now, we have to. think about what his future holds as. well. And then obviously with the uh. transfer portal, there's free agency. possibly for every single year. It it is. a wild time for college and in the NFL. I think it's about to get wild here in. Indianapolis. Reese Davis, it's what it. feels like here over the next couple. days. >> You know, Pat, you you're talking about.
the Colts general manager. One of the. most important positions in college. football now is the general manager. And. you can't really make trades, but you've. got to acquire the talent. You've got to. set the budget. You've got to scout it. and make sure that it fits right. And. one of the most difficult things to do. that it seemed as if Oregon had done. perfectly behind Dante Moore is have a. backup quarterback. And that hasn't. really worked out for the Ducks either. Sort of like their their offensive. coordinator choice that Dan Landing made. did not work out. So it's a it's a.
fascinating time in college football. such a delicate mix and the fact that it. looked as if Oregon had this big. schedule that had been put together very. well by or their big roster put together. by their general manager so well just. really hasn't uh hasn't worked out and. now they're just trying to survive to. the end of the season till they can hit. the reset button. >> Yeah. Wild to think that that's where. the Oregon Ducks are with a lot of. returners. We just assume they're going. to pick up where they left off. College. football playoff team last year got the. what number one or number two.
quarterback coming back. A lot of other. starters. You're Oregon. and you got. five stars in the chamber. We didn't. even think to talk about the loss of. Stein or uh Tosh. We didn't even talk. about that. I mean, that that ended up. being a gigantic thing for the Oregon. Ducks. We assume Dan Lanning will be. able to get that right out there. But, uh this year Dante Moore done and uh. I'll be intrigued. Does he have another. year of eligibility or is he going to. the NFL? Do we know? >> I think he's got I think he's got. another year if he wants it. I think. it's uh I think it's it's would be I'd.
be a little surprised if he takes it, but I think that he has another year. I. think it was Staml that said the other. day that despite all the problems that. he hadn't really uh tanked his draft. stock right now. So I think with the. ability that he has, somebody will take. a chance on him. But I'm not really sure. that it's going to be right at the top. of the draft. kind of have another year. of a quarterback class that hasn't. >> um developed the way most people. anticipated in the offseason. We've. talked a ton about Arch's struggles. Dante Moore hasn't uh gotten to play a.
whole lot because of the hit he took at. USC and you know in Trinidad Chamblas. while dynamic is not the biggest guy in. the world and smaller quarterbacks are. succeeding in the NFL but you know he. had some struggles against a Texas. defense that was fully capable of. keeping him in the pocket for most of. the night. So I I think there are. question marks at that position. It's a. terribly difficult one to evaluate. Got. to get them in the right system. Got to. get some continuity along with them. And. the the college guys that are coming in.
the class this year aren't exactly to. mix metaphors tearing the cover off the. ball right now. >> Lenor Sers has had a couple good weeks. >> Messa. Maker is going crazy. >> Darien Mensah it might be uh on the. Heisman path down there for Miami. He's. completing what percentage? >> I believe over 80. >> What? >> Completing a lot of passes, played a lot. of football, has had a lot of success. >> THAT GUY'S WIDE OPEN. >> WHOA.
You got to take the reps you can. obviously scout from. Uh NFL draft class. will be talked about throughout the rest. of this season into the off seasonason. Reese, let's dive into quarterbacks a. little bit. In your first part of. Reese's Pieces from this weekend, whenever it comes to what college. football had in store for us, what's. your big takeaway or first takeaway, Reese, that maybe needs to be chatted. about a little bit more? >> I think when we watch the Big 12, Pat, I. think that we're sort of conditioned. over the years to say, well, if you lose. a game or two in the Big 12, you're.
probably not the same level of playoff. contender as we thought you were. I kind. of don't think that's true. I kind of. did a dive this morning into looking at. some of the metrics to see if I could. use percentages or numbers to back up. what I felt like that the the Big 12. maybe wasn't as far behind uh the other. two power conferences at the top, the. Big 10 in the SEC as you thought. They're still ranking third. But my my. theory on this just from watching so. many games is that I'm not going to. crush a Big 12 team for getting knocked.
off on the road. There is a lot of. tremendous quarterback play. watching. Kiwan Jenkins from UCF right now who. kind of bet on himself and came from. came to FIU came off the bench and. played great against BYU. if everything else is close enough in. the Big 12 meaning the big top of the. Big 12 teams lines of scrimmage against. the SEC and Big 10 teams. I think their. quarterbacks can keep up. I would argue. it's pretty easy to say that at this. moment in time quarterback play the Big. 12 is better than the Big 10. I don't.
know if it's better than the SEC, but. you the two teams at the top. particularly in my judgment in the Big. 12 can match up with the better teams in. the SEC and the Big 10, and that's Utah. and BYU despite BYU's loss. They're. they're tough and strong in the line of. scrimmage. There's a lot of good. quarterback play in that league. I'm not. going to crush these teams when they go. on the road and stub their toe. And, you. know, I I think the league's really. really good this year. >> Yeah, they got a lot of talented play. I. I think they would talk about their. depth whenever you talk about if they.
can stay at the top of the Big 12. I. think they would say we got a lot of. good teams. We got a lot of really. really good teams. I'm trying to think. who cuz Mensah right now is the uh odds. on the highest odds to win the Heisman. That's ACC. >> Um you you think about um Messa we say. might be the best quarterback whenever. you go the draft. There you go. Next, that's Oklahoma State. >> Messenger, you got FIFA. You got Bear. Bachmeire. Um, >> I'm just trying to say quarterbacks that. aren't from. >> Deon Dampier. Like I I would I.
personally definitely would take the Big. 12 quarterbacks over the Big 10. quarterbacks. >> Yeah. Michael Hawkins, Julian Sean's. hurt. Hoover, if he's not hurt, that's a. big worry. Okay. In that situation, um, you know, Dante Moore is now hurt and. out. All the big like the Big 10 is. dealing with a ton of either hurt. quarterback. Michigan, I mean, they. don't have a quarterback. UCLA. quarterback hurt. Yeah, I would 100%. take the Big 12 quarterbacks over. >> Okay. than any SEC conversation. >> I'd take the SEC probably that well. >> Okay, go on. >> Yeah. >> Okay. You start with Oh my god. I don't.
want to start with Arch. >> Trinidad. >> Exactly. That's what I'm saying. >> Start with Trinidad. >> Trinidad. Yeah. Sam Levit is which we'll. get into. >> Okay. So, we're just hoping, right? We're hoping Sam Levit. >> No. I think No. >> Huh. >> Matchi has been really good. >> That's what I'm saying. Who is the SEC? So, let's have the conversation because. you said the Big 10 definitely. That's. why I was sitting there like who in my. brain. >> quarterback problem the Deion Russell. >> Yeah, >> he's a great player. Alabama, he's. unbelievable. Agreed. Gunner, I guess,
but Gunner Marcel hasn't been great at. all, but. >> it's looked a little better. >> Hold on, Ree. We opened the door here. for this conversation, and we appreciate. you doing this. >> Hey, the Big 12 has the best. quarterbacks in the in the country. >> I think I'd take the SEC. >> Who? >> I I' I'd probably give the SEC a slight. edge. I would take I would take. Trinidad, Keelin Russell, uh Sam Levit's. playing much much better. You mentioned. Sers, he he's been really good. You you.
still have Arch. I know he's struggled, but he's wildly talented. >> Um and you know, Kamario Taylor's hurt. now. >> Uh Kenny Menchy at Kentucky has been has. been really good. Gunner Stockton didn't. play great against Auburn, but played. out of his mind against Alabama. I would. probably collectively take that group in. the SEC. Um, memaker may be the best of. the bunch. I think Keelin Russell is. going to be the best quarterback in.
college football. The question is, is. that going to happen this year or next. year? And it's not there yet, but I. think it will be. >> I agree with that with how tall he is. A. lot of the problems that the people that. are as athletic as he is, he won't have. because how tall he is. You know, a lot. of the people that have the athleticism. that he has cannot see everything that. he has the capability of seeing. He also. has the feel of a small guy and uh from. my understanding he is a cerebral. monster. >> Jared Curtis, another one who's a young. guy that maybe not a lot of people know. about. >> down there at Vandy. Excited to see what.
he becomes. >> Broke some horses as a child. That was. his uh job growing up. >> The Texas kid. >> But I think what you're trying to say. and what we're trying to say here is. like Big 12 most important position in. ball has a lot of really good players. A. lot of really good players. >> That that's exactly it. And I just I. think we ought to make sure we give the. Big 12 credit, not just write them off. when somebody goes and gets upset on the. road. They're tough places to play. there. There's great quarterback play. Even the guy at Cincinnati, you know, JC. French, who put up, I think, threw four.
touchdown passes against Texas Tech on. Saturday. He's not noted as a big-time. passer, but he's a he's a veteran player. who's been around. So, you even get to. Cincinnati and you've got a capable guy. there. I just think that when we start. evaluating these teams that if. quarterback is the most important. position and if the team can stack up or. be close elsewhere, why not evaluate it. that way and and give them the benefit. of the doubt, not automatically, you. know, dismiss BYU and drop them way down. the rankings simply because they went on.
the road and lost the game in overtime. >> I like to hear that from an AP voter, one of the main voices of the entire. sport and definitely of the college. football playoff. He's the only one that. gets to interview him immediately after. the rankings come out from the college. football playoff. Reese's voice, he's. not in the room where it happens, but. immediately upon them coming out, there's only one person they're talking. to. So Reese feeling this way about the. Big 12 is a huge deal. I think I I think. it's a huge swing for the Big 12, who as. a uh person who has my school in the Big. 12, there's been a lot of Big 12 people.
saying like, "Hey, hey, hey, what about. what about what about?" Because it did. become Big 10 SEC conversation about. college football as a whole. And I think. Big 10 and SEC have invested a lot and. done a lot for college football. I. respect it. But the Big 12 for years now. has been like, hey, we got some real. teams out here. Feels like this year. might be the big time. We're in this. game as well. And let alone Miami might. be the best team in the entire country. down there at the ACC. Is college. football at a good spot right now. Feels. like it. >> Feels like it. >> Let's make wholesale changes to it, I.
believe. All right. Uh, speaking of. wholesale changes, there are some. surprises this deep into the season. How. do you feel about those this year, Ree? Who do you got on your board as, "Wow, I. didn't expect this to be like this at. these places.". >> Yeah, I I did not expect UCLA and. Kentucky to be where they are right now. Now, Kucky's got a brutal schedule. coming up and UCLA uh has an easier one, but a couple of tricky spots along the. way. And I think when we look at those. two teams, both those teams are. tremendous stories. And you immediately.
start thinking, you know, Kentucky, can. they be like 2024 Indiana kind of come. through and make it? UCLA, same thing. Kind of come out of nowhere and be like. the Hooers were in 2024. And those are. tremendous stories. It's a possibility. I like UCLA's chances a little better. because of the schedule than I do. Kucky's coming down the stretch to be. able to keep this going. But you know. what, Pat? I think as I look at this, as. I look at this, >> that's Kucky's schedule right there. That's Kentucky.
>> Yeah, there's the SK. I mean, that's. that's rough. At Tennessee, a great. defense at Missouri. very capable. Florida, we know, you know, Florida's. been up and down. They've been like. Bitcoin, but they're they're capable. And Louisville has probably. underperformed the lit relative to its. record. They're also, I think, a really. good team with uh with Lincoln Keenholes. having such a great start to the season. But what I'm looking at is not so much. who is Indiana from 24, but who's Miami. from last year that if they get in,
watch out, they can win the whole thing. And to me, that's LSU. I mean, I think. LSU's had a couple of little hiccups. They lost the game at Kentucky on the. two-point conversion at the end. They. lost that wild game that we saw at Old. Miss early, which is almost like karma. was dictating that Miss was going to win. that game. Watching LSU the last couple of games, it feels like Levit's getting. comfortable. He's taking care of the. football a little better than he was. earlier, and they feel like they're. coming. Uh, I think LSU is the team now.
They have some tests. They've got. Alabama, they've got Texas, but if they. get there, I'd watch out because they. certainly are capable of of winning the. whole thing, I think, if they get in. >> Yeah, we watch them against Clemson. operate on all cylinders with that place. going the way it was going. And it felt. as if this was going to be a monster. Tradez Green got hurt for a few weeks. He comes back. He's in the end zone. Okay. He's 6'7, 243 tight end. Sam. Levit, to your point, hasn't had. anywhere near the amount of turnovers he. was having there for a while because I. think he was overthinking. Didn't really.
know what was going on. as he gets more. comfortable and as he gets hot late. maybe this LSU team who has dogs. everywhere across the defense they are. bigger stronger faster than you on the. other side of the ball if they can lock. in the offense gets going Keifin in a. college football playoff as an underdog. you know kind of a late seed like uh I. think that would be an incredible story. for the CFP a lot has to happen with. more teams coming out of the Big 12 as. well now let's get to something that is. very important every single week we get. a chance to kind of see uh how decisions. are made by who you know what I mean Ty.
Oh yeah, >> there are other people that put out, I. guess, who they voted for as AP voters, but normally I don't think we get a. chance to really see all of them know. exactly where everybody's head's at. We. always wonder how these rankings become. these rankings. Well, Reese Davis is. saying, "You can judge me." Here is this. week's Reese Davis top 25 for the AP. Miami Hurricanes remain as the top team. in the country. The Buckeyes slide up. coming out of a by-week. They move up. BYU, you don't dock them too bad. Once. again, this is you respecting I think.
UCF in the Big 12. You were literally. just talking about this and now your. rankings kind of indicate that. Anything. on here that you think got people pissed. off about? And uh what were you kind of. battling with as you were trying to put. numbers on these teams? >> I I think what they're probably going to. be pissed off about is BYU because I. think the condition is that they would. they want them dropped a little bit. more. the thing the things that I. struggle with the most uh Ohio State at. number two and not knowing exactly what. the quarterback's going to look like. with Luke Fehee. So, it's almost like I.
feel like that's a placeholder. I want. to respect what they've done, but I I. have some skepticism. I need to see the. quarterback. I I mean, we've we've. talked so much about them and I. understand. I don't think that Kentucky. and UCLA, if I were doing a power rating. thing, just looking forward, I would not. have them that high. But you have to. respect what's been accomplished. I. think that's the uh when it's close, you. have to give the edge to the. accomplishment and not always just um uh.
try to evaluate what you think they. might be going forward. And then and. then probably uh on down a little bit a. little bit at the bottom. I I really. like Oregon State, so I put them in. there. I don't think many people had. them ranked quarterback. >> Other than that, I'm not that I think. they're I think they're a little bit of. a quiet threat to sneak in and get that. group of six playoff birth if they could. upset Boise in a couple of weeks on the. blue. >> Ty was disgusted there with what you. said about BYU, but he literally just.
went into full detail on why he didn't. dock them as much. >> No, I understand. I don't care. UC UCF. is four and three and they're 10th in. the Big 12, so I get it. But we let. let's not just reward BYU because all of. a sudden the Big 12's a great. conference. And maybe part of it is, you. know, people are just acting like. Minnesota's hammer dog [ __ ] Iowa gets. beat by them on a last second field. goal. They go from 15 out of the polls. I think that's [ __ ] too. But, you. know, is is Reese top 25? Not. >> Yeah, exactly. Yeah. We got to respect. the amount of time and effort that went.
into that. He had a full explanation on. why he actually led before he even. showed the top 25. He laid out his. entire. >> case and and if it would have been, you. know, maybe a team from the Big 12 who. was like ninth and up, then I would have. said, "Okay, sounds good. Drop them down. because it is a good conference. >> Four, it's a four and three unranked. team, you know.". >> Yeah, but they but they've been but. they've been competitive in a couple of. those games. They gave Houston all they. wanted. I need you to I've been high on. Iowa. I know Iowa's not in there, but I.
mean I need you to I need you to score a. few more points against the Gophers and. that. I I can't let you do that, >> T. I agree. Well, you know what? I I. worked myself into a shoot. >> We have two good quarterbacks. Once. again, we got none. That's just the way. it goes. >> Minnesota Gophers. Huge win for PJ. Fleck. A uh field gets stormed. And. Minnesota now home of College Game Day. this weekend for their trip to. Bloomington to take on the Indiana. Hooers who you have ranked where? Five,
I believe. I saw right behind Notre. Dame. You have the Indiana Hooers. They. could still be undefeated if it wasn't. for three inches, four inches. They're. not though. Have to take that into. account, says Reese Davis. Now, this is. AP votes. This is an Associated Press. top 25 ranking for Reese Davis. >> Mhm. >> He's in the Wheats. >> Oh, yeah. >> We here at the Thunderdome uh have the. incredible opportunity every single week. to see, you know, an above average pull. Not like an elite pull. >> No, like Reese's.
>> Reys has an elite pull. >> Yeah. >> Holy hell. Does he not best in the best. >> elite pull. >> this week? >> Then there's then there's bad Yeah, that's a Miami Hurricanes fan. Then. there is just average polls. >> and we don't Average polls are. everywhere. That's why they're average. Yes. Okay. Average poll. So we want to. be a little bit above that. Ladies and. gentlemen, it's time for this week's AP. tone. Nope. Sorry, not AP tone. >> Not for college. >> Basic ass college football author tones. above average poll.
Who sits at top your average above. average poll today, Tone Digs? >> That would be the U. Um the University. of Miami. Uh there's no argument. They. have to be number one. They are. unblenmished. Um they have one of the. best offenses in the country. Uh I. believe number 11 ranked defense when it. comes to points per game. So, you know, top 11 on both sides of the football. The Mensa to Malachi Tony uh is just. unbelievable. Cooper Bar unbelievable as. well. They're going to get Fletcher. going when it comes time uh in the.
playoffs like just like they did last. year. They are they're a very good team. I'm looking for them to get healthy on. defense as well. There's no argument. there. And then, you know, we talked. about it with UCLA and Kentucky with. Reese. I don't I don't think there is. any reason that UCLA cannot go. undefeated. Yes, there's a couple tricky. spots in there. They have Minnesota and. USC, but like I mean there's there's not. a team on you that you say, "Oh, UCLA. UCLA definitely cannot beat them like. there is on Kentucky schedule." Um, so I. like UCLA a lot. And then Reese and I do. not talk before this at all, but we we.
tend to agree a lot. You guys see who's. driving that car back there? Who is that. >> kind of lurking? >> That's Lane Keifin. Okay. I I made a bet. this week that LSU will win the national. championship. There's three teams in the. top 10 on offense and defense. It's. Notre Dame, Ohio State, and the LSU. Tigers. Okay. And that's one of those. teams I think they're good on offense. I. think they're good on defense. I think. Levit is really settling down. Their. offensive line is playing better. They're running the football. I uh yeah, I put in a national championship on LSU. this week because I think at their best. they are one of the best.
>> I like Lane and Levit lurking in the. drop top back there. I I appreciate. that. I assume Lane is going to. appreciate the shout out as well as he's. keeping an eye out on Tone's above. average bowl. We appreciate you, Tone. >> Hey, Reese, you're the absolute best, brother. Thank you for taking the time. >> My pleasure. Thanks for having me, guys. >> Ladies and gentlemen, that's Reese. David. >> All right, hour one wraps up here. uh. with we hit baseball, >> college football, >> NFL football, breaking news. Y.
>> and WNBA is playing Thursday at 12:30. Debut, what do we need to know about uh. Atlanta and uh the Valkyries? >> Hopefully we get more points. Atlanta. only shot 29%. Uh Valkyries are playing. some great great defense, but obviously. as a fan you want more points, so expect. more points game six and uh we'll see. Valkyries are one game away. Dream can. fight for their survival. >> Congrats to both of them making it to. the finals. There's been a lot of talk. about it being at 12:30. Hopefully. people will watch cuz it is the finals. >> It's on USA Network AND. >> I KNOW PEOPLE HAVE JOBS. THEY GOT TO.
WORK. >> WE WATCH SHOWS AT NOON. BE A FRIEND. TELL A friend something nice about. change your life. We'll see you on the. other side. When I was a kid, I'd get this feeling. I called it white buzz.
>> and everything will go white. >> It's like I'm not me in that moment. for the hills. Pick up 15 and let's go. >> That white buzz would pour in my brain. like a river of [ __ ] fire. >> I get the same feeling when I started. playing football.
>> It's loud. and everything goes white. Is that what insane is? >> Oh, hold on tight. Hold on tight. You're. too slow. We'll fire at the breeze that blows.
these stars through our mind. Fire the hill. Fire the hill. Maro. This is war. This is real war.
We have an OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE AWAY. $75,000. to a giving Daniel Vor. >> Absolutely. >> You're a sophomore, correct? >> Yeah. >> What is your major? >> Civil engineering. >> Okay. So, what's that mean? What is. civil engineering? >> Uh, I don't really know. >> Have you ever kicked a ball before? >> I have. I have. >> And Wayne, were you a soccer player? >> Soccer player. Yeah. >> Okay. How were you at kicking soccer. balls? It's pretty good. >> I was okay. I was good. Have you ever. said anything negative about football. kickers? >> Maybe once or twice.
>> DANIEL. DAMN, DANIEL. WE DON'T NEED. THAT. YOU MAKE A FIELD GOAL here from 33. yards uphill. You're the civil engineer. You'd have to tell me. I think it's. about a 40 yard kick. If you're able to. do that, we will give you $75,000. >> All right. >> He's got no laces. >> Yeah. What do we got going here? Can we. get Can we get a shot of shoes? >> What time of the shoes? >> Daniel showed up in his vans with no. laces. What time did you get here for. this? about 11:40 last night. >> You need a lot of power. >> Good luck, Daniel.
>> I'm not feeling it. Not feeling it. >> The following program is a collection of. students talking about happenings in the. sports world. It is meant to be comedic, informative. The opinions expressed on. this show do not necessarily reflect the. beliefs of their peers, their boss, or. ESPN. There may be some cuss words. because that's how humans in the real. world talk. If you are a young, please.
seek permission before watching any. further. >> Hey, let's go. >> This show sticks and the fact that you. listen, we are very, very thankful for. >> McAfee on the line with a gorgeous. assist. >> The alltime leading tackler for the. Green Bay Packers. You pick. Damn it. Be a friend. Tell a friend. something nice could change their life.
>> Hello beautiful people and welcome back. to our hub in the boat the draft kings. thunderdome on this big sports Tuesday. October 27th 2026. Hour two of the. program begins now. >> Football is the greatest last night. Dallas Cowboys beat Philadelphia Eagles. to wrap up week seven of the NFL season. The Dallas Cowboys are now a game and a. half out of the lead of the division in. the NFC East as the Giants have the. driver seat and JJ McCarthy is now their.
starting quarterback. Thank you to the. Eagles and to the Cowboys for a. phenomenal game that we thought was. potentially going to be an absolute. shite bowl. The atmosphere was. electrifying. I got a chance to meet uh. Max from Pardon My Take. >> Oh, sure. >> Do do Max big Eagles fan. walked over to. him, asked him if our boost hit because. I believe uh he he has been, you know, talked about playing our boost. He said. he's going to play him every time and I. told him, >> "Let's get a win for you, pal." So, we. need to remember that there's people out. there on these booths. So, whenever. we're piecing these together, there's. people out there like Max, okay, that.
can uh profit and benefit from what our. brain is able to piece together. So, let's win for these people, okay? Let's. go ahead and win for these guys. >> Already researched on Thursday. >> Oh, we're ready to go. >> Oh, yeah. I think so. Yeah. >> Oh, talk table boss. But. >> we need to win for these people. That. was my first time really seeing somebody. that has said something about our boost. on one of their shows and being like, "Hey, did it end up hitting though, you. know, like it did. Okay, thank you." And. he said, "I'm playing every single one.". >> 43, by the way. >> All right, let's do that. Let's win for. We are going to try to win for you, Max.
Like actually going to try not only for. you, but for everybody. We need to keep. doing that. Last night, I was wrong. Thought the Eagles were going to win. Okay, that's not great. Saquon Barkley, though, early. Okay, he ends up getting. hurt. We got to account for that. It did. feel like a back against the wall game. for the Dallas Cowboys. Really loud. It. got very loud. Uh Shotty had been. questioned. Dak had been questioned. The. entire Dallas Cowboys defense had been. questioned very loudly by everybody. going against a backup quarterback with. a lot of injuries to the Eagles. Felt. like the Dallas Cowboys needed to win. that game. Then Jerry Jones be uh before.
the game tells us, "Hey, last time we. played backup quarterback, we got our. asses kicked." I'm sure that was a. reminder that was sent through the. entire Dallas Cowboys. If not now, then. when they can go on a run and still host. a home playoff game. People forget that, but there's a lot of season left. Won't. have the hammer. Cowboys AP Tone is. here. Tone, what did end up happening. with the Gambling? Over hit in dramatic. fashion. Obviously, we knew that was uh. a possibility whenever both teams were. desperate. What else is uh kind of a. trend that we need to take away from.
last night? >> Yes, overhit last night and the um the. road team again. So I was I was looking. at stuff um as far as like the total. season is now conf confirmed the away. team is 5342. and six this year. So um we talked about. you know like home field advantage and. stuff like that and you know uh home. dogs but as as far as the season goes. the away team has been much better this. season. Not sure why but right now 5342. and six to the away team which the. Cowboys were last night. The over is. 5650 and1 on the season. So slightly to.
the over. And then the big thing this. year also, not last night with but with. the dogs, um favorites are 46% so far. this year. Okay, whatever. Not bad. Almost 50/50. Three points or more. favorites 42%. And then you go even. farther. Seven points or more. They're. covering 28% of the time. So favorites. as a whole, 46. If they're three points. or more, 42% covering. And then 28% if. you go seven points or more. It's hard. We always talk about like these games. are always close. We don't know what the.
hell's going to happen. So, if you're a. favorite of seven points or more, good. luck. >> Last night became a runaway, which is. going to happen, I guess, abn abnormal. for this season, though. A lot of games. have been very close, and there's been a. lot of back door. Hey, let's go ahead. and try to get it late as backups come. in. Nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Butler. is here, sir. But, um, >> we didn't know when it was going to. happen for the Colts, >> first domino. But, we assumed it was. going to happen. didn't know for sure, but we assumed it was going to happen. Earlier in the show, first hour, it was. broken. Quinton Nelson traded from the. Colts to the Seattle Seahawks for two.
picks uh going forward. Now, Quint. Nelson expiring uh contract heads of the. Seattle Seahawks looking to win uh. back-to-back Super Bowls. The odds go. for the Seattle Seahawks plus,00. to plus a,000. So, it goes from 11 to1. to 10 to1 just with the swing of a. guard. That feels like a big swing for. an offensive guard uh to a team that is. the reigning Super Bowl champs. How do. you feel about this trade now that we've. been sitting on it for about 30 45. minutes? And what do you think this says.
about the Seattle Seahawks and the. Indianapolis? >> Uh well, I'll start with the Colts. It's. crazy how quickly and how dramatically. things can change for a franchise year. to year. Last year we, you know, traded. for Sauce for two number ones because we. felt like we were in the Super Bowl. window. We had the quarterback, we had. the offense figured out. Defense was. playing better, and now just a year. later, we're expecting a fire cell or a. reset with the franchise. So, you got to. take advantage of your window first and. foremost. And I think, you know, it's a. good move. We all talked about it. Look, we got to get pieces. We got to get. resources. We're not going to resign. Quinton Nelson. Let's move them and see.
what we can get. And the market. dictates, you know, what you can get. So, now we know, we assume Ed Dodd is. making these calls. He made the call. He. made the move. For the Seahawks, I think. it's a great move because that is a. offense that's been especially the. championship version of him. Even the. first one when John Snder built the. first championship, it was built on. great defense, a great run game, and. then create some explosive plays here. and there. So, getting Quinton Nelson in. there should be the best guard combo in. the NFL. They can, you know, kind of. stick to their identity and we know who. he is. We feel like we know who he is as.
a person going to be in that locker. room, community, etc. So, it's a great. pickup for them. And now, now we have. resources. and you look at a third round. pick or a fifth round pick, a lot of. times when you look at these. championship teams, you can use the. Seahawks for an example. Yeah, you got. to hit on the first and second rounders, but a lot of times it's those fourth, it's those fifth rounders that show up. and be great players for a franchise for. a long time. So hopefully we hit. >> Yeah, we're in the middle of the pounder. rock era as well for the Seattle. Seahawks. So having Quinton, now what. does it say about Jonathan Taylor? >> You know, if you don't if you.
>> he might be heading out west, too. >> Yeah. Here's the pound of the rock era. graphic that we made that we think we. should spotlight a little bit about what. type of football we're in right now. Here's last night the Cowboys get added. to the graphic. Lions get bumped from. it, but Buccaneers, Rams, Steelers, Giants, Seahawks, Cowboys here. Seahawks, they did it this week and they. add another absolute road grader. If you. can run the ball right now and dominate. the other team, obviously you keep the. other offense off the field. You wear. down their defense, but not everybody. can do that. Not every team is built to. be able to do it. Right now is a good. time to be able to do that. Seattle.
Seahawks seemingly get even better. Joining us now is a man who was from the. pound the rock era. He was on the other. side. >> trying to crack the stone. >> Yeah. >> Ladies and gentlemen, >> the head. >> college football. >> Yeah. Sharpen the jaw. >> Mhm. >> You know, home plate through face era. >> Ladies and gentlemen, college football. national champion, Super Bowl champion, alltime leaning tackler for the Green. Bay Packers, AJ Hawk. >> Paco, uh, you're awesome. Thank you for.
joining us. Uh the pound the rock era. continues last night with what the. Cowboys were able to do. Javvante. Williams has a career night uh in every. category basically and the Cowboys get a. huge win alongside an explosive offense. Quint Nelson traded to the Seattle. Seahawks. How do you feel about that? What do you think John Schneider, who a. man you know very well, is doing with. this move? And uh how do you feel about. what the Colts have decided to do behind. closed doors seemingly here? >> Yeah, I think this is going to be a. win-win for both teams. Obviously, if. you're the Colts, he has an expiring. contract. You're not going to re-up him.
You got to get something for him. Now, what a third and a fifth, I believe, right? 2027, third and then a fifth. coming up after it. That's not too much. to give up if you're Seattle. But for. Quinton Nelson, I'm sure it's like. bittersweet. Yeah, you're leaving the. team that drafted you where you you set. your roots and everything, but he has to. be very excited. Like he if you're going. to get traded, why not let's let's go to. a team that seems to have great culture. They won the Super Bowl last year and. they hopefully will be contending for. another Super Bowl for years to come. like it's a good thing for for Quinton. Nelson I think in his career but he. probably kind of sad and whatever.
bittersweet to leave the Colts but yeah. this is this is kind of where we're at. this season I feel like. >> yeah last week he was talking about you. know hey if you were to get traded what. would you say and he's like. >> you know I met my wife here had my. family here uh a lot of good times here. like wait wait wait wait wait that. sounds like a lot of past tense right. there and I think you know there was a. lot of writing on the wall Jonathan. Taylor even uh kind of acknowledges like. there's been a lot of talk about me. potentially getting traded with where we. are right now. I think they're all. bummed out that Chris Ballard got fired. too. Like they they're kind of their.
team is the reason why the person who. drafted them is no longer here. So fresh. start for Quentyn Nelson to change the. football life because I think he is very. good football player. >> What a culture shock that's going to be. >> What's that? >> Indiana to Seattle. >> No, no, no, no. Football Sorry, sorry, sorry. Football culture shock going from. the Colts to the Seahawks. >> All right. >> I think both, actually. I think it's a. little different up there than it is out. here. >> We'll find out. I think it's next Monday. Night Football. Joining us now is a man. who might have a little bit more. information on what the Colts next moves. are. Or is this it? Senior NFL insider.
for ESPN and NFL Network, man who broke. this news, Adam Shfter. >> Chefy, how you doing? Uh, great to see. you. Uh, Adidas sponsorship here right. across the chest. I like what Adidas is. doing getting involved with insiders. now. Uh, can you tell me a little bit. about Quentyn Nelson getting traded to. the Seattle Seahawks? How expected was. it to happen on this day? And when. should we expect more moves from the. Colts?
>> Well, I think what happened, Pat, here. is obviously everybody knew that the. Colts could be looking to get back draft. pick compensation for some of these. players. They go and they lose on Sunday. in Minnesota. And I think that expedites. conversations in the organization on. Monday to begin making moves. They were. having conversations throughout the day. yesterday regarding various players. including Quinton Nelson. There were.
multiple teams that were interested. There was a relationship between the. Colts interim general manager Ed Dods. and the Seahawks general manager John. Schneider. Ed Dodge previously worked in. Seattle, so this turns out to be his. first deal with his former team, which. stepped up in the end with two draft. picks. The Colts are looking for draft. pick capital and compensation, as much. of it as they can get. Now, Quinton. Nelson's on an expiring contract. Very. well could have left after the year. So.
rather than wait and get a compensatory. draft pick in 2028, the Colts got a 2028. draft pick and a 2027 third round pick. And I think this is a signal that they. are open to listening on most any. player. Most any player. Now the big. name is Jonathan Taylor. And my. understanding is is that the owner. doesn't want to trade Jonathan Taylor. So, uh, again, we have two weeks from.
now until the deadline. I'm sure they. don't want to trade Jonathan Taylor. And. if I had to guess today, I would say I. don't think they will trade Jonathan. Taylor. But I think there are going to. be teams that are interested out there. that will try to have conversations, make offers, and if the Colts don't. change their stance, they won't trade. Jonathan Taylor. But again, I think the. owner doesn't want to trade him for the. record right now. Okay, >> that doesn't mean it happens, but and by. the way, that may just be their stance. like to drive up the price.
>> Yeah, this could be poker. But on that. note, we are in, we just showed a. graphic, the pound rock era. Jonathan. Taylor is by far one of the best running. backs in the league. I mean, there's no. question about it that he is so good. Always scoring, literally always scoring. touchdowns, always moving forward. He. has been a bright uh bright spot for the. Colts over the years since he's gotten. here. and even in college, we'd watch. him here in Indianapolis at the Big 10. Championship. And he was a bright spot. then for our city. So Jonathan Taylor is. certainly a weapon. So if they didn't.
want to move on from him, whoever the. future GM is, even if it's Ed Dods, whoever the next coach is, maybe Shane. Styen stays, maybe it was just Chris. Ballard and we keep everybody from. within. I don't know how that's going to. go. If you win games, nobody cares. If. you lose games, everybody's going to get. very loud about it. So whoever is next. would want Jonathan Taylor on the team. I I I think that is something that would. certainly be uh a benefit to whoever is. tasked with this next iteration of the. Indianapolis Colts. But how do you build. the next Indianapolis Colts if you don't. have anything to really build it with? Jonathan Taylor might be the only piece.
that could really get you something big. I guess it's TBD on that. Deorest. Buckner, another conversation because he. is Pro Bowl player, all pro player and. really good football player. Also on an. expiring contract, I believe Shaft, right? >> Yeah. And this is where I was going to. go. They don't want to trade Jonathan. Taylor, which doesn't mean that they. won't trade him, but I don't think they. want to. And today, I would say they. don't. But there are other players that. I believe will wind up being on the move. here. And I think the players you look. at would be.
DeForest Buckner, Josh Downs. >> What? >> Josh DS. >> Josh DS. >> Josh DS. There other player uh um Grover. Stewart on the defensive line. They'll. get calls on him. >> No. >> Hey, Gro. I I I now again what winds up. happening and who winds up getting. traded. I would say this um the the name. that we're watching next would be. DeForest Buckner because he's also in a. very similar situation to Quinton Nelson.
on an expiring deal. He's a veteran. And. here's the thing that you have to keep. in mind on DeForest Buckner as a 10-year. veteran. And there are some people. around the league that don't know this. rule, but. the most that the Colts could get back, the highest compensatory draft pick that. the Colts would get back if he signed. elsewhere after the season would be a. fifth round pick. A fifth round pick. So. that to me frames the compensation that.
the Colts will wind up getting back for. DeForest Booker. won't be as good, I. don't think, as Quinton Nelson, who is a. little younger and who would have gone. for more compensatory draft pick. compensation if he had left. So, the. return on Buckner. will be lower, I expect, than Quinton. Nelson, but I do think that he's very. much in play as potentially the next. Indianapolis Colt to be dealt here.
>> So, at least a fourthrounder. Got it. which is what you just said. If we can. get something better than what the. compensatory pick will be because he's a. 10-year vet, we will probably go and. wade those waters. If DeForest Buckner. wants to head to place, which I think. they want to do right by Deorest Buckner. as well from my understanding, DeForest. has been great for us. We're very lucky. that we had we traded a one for him. whenever he came over here and whenever. he was playing, we were a good football. team. Then he had a couple injuries. We. were not a good football team. So. DeForest Buckner is another one of those. guys just like Quinton Nelson who we.
will miss mightily in our city and for. the Colts. But this kind of what has to. happen doesn't it Shafty for this is. kind because these guys have been here a. long time. A lot of these guys Jonathan. Taylor's been here a long time. Clint. Nelson eight years for Buckner's been. here a long time. Josh DS he's what he's. his contract expiring as well. I think. this is his rookie year his rookie. contract is up. It's like these guys. have been here a long time. Josh Towns. having by far his best year this year. He's having his best year even though we. haven't been playing that good. He is. certainly a worthy of a Well, good luck.
to all of them. Hey, >> go get it. >> What do look like though? >> That sucks. This is why you have. multiple teams, guys. This is why this. has never happened. >> This ship right here. Hey, congratulations to you, you Packers, Patriots, or not you guys, but everybody. else. >> You get it. >> It's a tough spot. >> Your Seahawks are buyers. >> All right, chef. >> Yeah, your your favorite guard goes to. your favorite team. Hey, >> did you broker this? >> Any other buyers out there, Shifty? Seattle's obviously. Any other buyers.
>> for the Chiefs? Who? >> Anybody, bro? >> Yeah. On the market, >> the Chiefs going to get a receiver. That's the That's the rumor, Shifty. >> Yeah, the Chiefs have been in the wide. receiver market. Uh. >> Steelers, >> I think uh the Steelers have been in the. wide receiver market. the, you know, the. good teams that are out there right now. >> The Broncos, the Seahawks, the Vikings, >> Browns, >> um the the Brown, the 49ers, like.
>> even got them. >> Couldn't even get the word Browns out of. your mouth there. The Brown Ners. >> Hey, the Browns are Browns in they're in. first place here, okay? They're they're. they're unbelievable. They've been one. of these stories this season. Yeah, they. have not browns since Todd Monken said. we are not Browns in anymore. He. actually said two words about Browns and. they're the brand new Brownies. Could. you imagine has them wheeling and. dealing? He already has obviously for. the quarterback that he has right now. He's gotten into the game. How many of. these moves should we expect to see like.
now verse maybe November 10th be. whenever you know deadlines kind of draw. a little bit of action in this type of. world? >> Yeah. Again, each of the last two years, from October 1st to the trade deadline, there were 18 trades made. Today, from. October 1st to now, there have been five. trades made. Five. So, that would tell. me I don't know if we'll get as many, but I I I still think we'll get roughly. double digits more. 10 12 trades more.
between now and the trade deadline would. be my guess based on what's occurred the. last two years and the fact that there's. been an average I think over the last 5. years of 17 trades per year from October. 1st to the trade deadline. We got five. right now. You have to figure we're. going to get somewhere close to that. this year. >> Shey eyeballs his phone just in case. another one happens right now. A couple. big names still out there. Uh go ahead, Ty. Yeah, Shifty, we've heard a lot. about Khalil Mack uh potentially being. moved, but with the Chargers sitting at.
0 and6, like are they in full fire sale. mode too, or are they still kind of. kidding themselves and thinking like, hey, if we win next week, maybe we don't. have to do this. >> Great question. Like they have been very. adamant that they are trying to win. football games. That that's what they. keep telling teams. Like they've gotten. calls on Khalil Mack and they say, "We're not trading him. We're not. trading him." Just like the Colts are. saying right now, we're not trading. Jonathan Taylor. That's the interesting. thing about this. And do their thoughts,
does their mindset change as we get. closer to the trade deadline? Like this. Sunday, it's the battle of LA, Chargers, Rams. If the Rams win again and the. Chargers go to 0 and7, are they then willing to listen? And is. there a team that steps up and says, "Hey, we're going to give you a pick. that's worthwhile for Khalil Mack to. make this happen." Again, they let me be. very clear, they've been adamant that. they're not trading him. So, but but I.
would say this and they love him. Like. they he's one of their favorite players. that's passed through there in terms as. a guy, a leader. But if you are not. winning and his contract's up after the. year, why would you not take back a draft pick. midway through the year for the guy like. that? That. >> I makes sense, doesn't it? He does. Why. don't that's what we're did with Quinton. Nelson here. Are all the Is Quinton. Nelson have a new deal in place already. with Schneider? >> No, he's on an expiring deal and um no.
new contract in place. Traded with his. current contract. >> So just like Joey Porter Jr. We just. kind of play it out here. We just see. what happens. >> Correct. It would be interesting because. they obviously moved on from Ken Walker. because of the positional value paid. Devin Weatherspoon the top of the. market. JSN top of the market. You. assume Sam Darnold maybe gets a new deal. at some point. So, uh it'll be. interesting how they handle that. >> $9.7 million guaranteed is what Quinton. Nelson is currently sitting on. Says. Spo, which we think is normally the most. accurate out of all the contract stuff.
An expiring deal. This is just a lease. from Schneider saying, "Hey man, yeah, we we think you're a great football. player and uh if we do good things here, we love to call this place home, but if. not, you want to title with us and then. you'll go get paid somewhere else.". Quint Nelson, damn good football player. Now, there's one more position that. everybody likes to talk about, especially around trade deadline because. we're just one piece away. One flashy, shiny touchdowns scoring piece away, a. lot of people think. Conor, last. question for you. >> Yeah, Shafty Pass. Talking about the. wide receiver position. Uh for the bad. teams, it doesn't seem as though they.
have a lot of pieces to trade. Although. the Commanders have Stefon Diggs, is he. a piece perhaps? Then even some of the. good teams, Jawan Jennings for the. Vikings, Brian Thomas Jr. for the. Jaguars, those guys have kind of been. thrown out there as far as trade pieces. Are those teams and players that would. get moved? And then lastly, not being a. trade piece, but a free agent piece. Uh. Tyreek Hill, is there any update on him. or will we see him sign maybe after uh. the trade deadline? and just because. then teams kind of know where they are. >> I think with Tyreek Hill, his agent,
Drew Rosen, has been pretty clear that. he feels like his client is getting. closer to a deal, but he's not going to. do a deal until he feels like he has the. deal and the place he wants. It hasn't. happened yet. Um, we'll see how that. plays out. Nothing so far with Tyreek. Hill. Brian Thomas, the Jaguars have. been pretty clear also. They keep saying. we're not trading him. Although again, he had a decreasing role in their last. game in London. So, it wouldn't shock me. if their stance changed before the trade.
deadline, especially if a team made it. worthwhile for them. Uh, I have not. heard Stefan Diggs name at all. >> Who was the other wide receiver that you. asked about? >> Jawan Jennings in Minnesota. >> Jennings. I I think some teams have. checked in on him. Um, but it doesn't. sound like anything is happening there. right now. >> We need a wide receiver here in. Indianapolis. We just acquired a third. and a fifth, I believe. So, we got maybe. some. >> I could run some wrath. Do. >> we have any update on Alec Pierce? What. happened? Is this guy okay? >> He's a weird Walker.
>> We signed him to the biggest deal in the. history of wide receivers during free. agency. We signed him. Biggest deal. >> That was your story. That was your. story. That was that was your big story. >> Thank you to the Colts for allowing me. to break that news. Good guy. >> I love Alec Pierce. I actually do. I I. enjoy him as a human. I think he's. pretty hilarious. I think a lot of. people really love him. He's explosive. Had a phenomenal year last year. uh we. move on from Pitman because we got to. pay Pierce and we give him the biggest. contract in the history of free agency. for wide receivers and then he played a. little bit and then not really and then. he's been out. We haven't even really.
talked about him. Is he going to play. this year or like what what. >> you know again I don't I I'm just. speaking in generalities. I'm not. reporting this, right? We're just. talking. I'm allowed to talk. >> Yes, Shy, you're a human. You're allowed. to be a human. You're a human. >> So are you. You're a human. >> You're allowed to talk. We're humans. here. Just guys, don't ask about. percentages or anything like that. >> Your mind starts wandering. Look, they. want him to play and he's trying to come. back and all those things happen. But at.
some point, you also wonder like if the. team's not winning games, does it make. sense to bring him back? Like, I'm just. wondering that out loud with you right. now. >> I mean, we we picked D challenge. We're. not winning games. Get them out. >> What's the point? >> Yeah, you should probably rest both of. those guys for the rest of this. >> Get healthy. Just prepare for next year. >> Cancel the season. It's over. >> WHAT ABOUT OUR TICKETS? WE STILL GOT. GAMES WE GOT TO GO USE THIS WEEK. >> We need to We need to start contacting. artists and musical performances that. can come and perform at Lucas Oil at 1.
p.m. >> Never going to happen. You know that we. got Blue, bro. We got Blue throwing a. football from the upper deck. >> You might as well sell that sweet. >> Give up on that thing. >> No. This is a terrible time to sell. I. think this would be the worst time in. the history to sell it. Huh? >> And I really like that suite. >> We should close the doors and just have. parties. >> Hang inside. >> Yeah. >> And watch TV. >> Do a rehearsal. Jay-Z. I'm out of Lucas. Oil. Great venue. >> Give it to one of the homeless down. >> They don't even want to go. >> Yeah. You're probably.
>> Come on, Jay-Z. Get ready for the. halftime show. Come do a show at Lucas. Oil for our halftime. >> We'll give an extendo halftime on CBS. regional or the game for. >> Yeah, we definitely will. All right. >> Why not? >> All right, chef. Do you want to start. fast? Yeah. Are are you gonna have a. role in the halftime show? You I mean. you you there's you got to be doing. that, right? >> Oh, no. Please don't say that. So many. people mad. We're just talking here. We're just talking here. This is not him. reporting. I am not a part of that. And. Jeez Louise. Actually, don't even know. if I'm allowed to talk about, you know,
I don't even know if I'm. >> sources that tell me I got sources that. tell me that you that you're under. consideration for the half. Thank you, Chefty. You know what's going to happen. now is there's going to be a whole wave. of people [ __ ]. >> Thank you, Chefy. you doing? >> That's not real. Ladies and gentlemen, Adidas insider Adam Shfter. >> Congratulations to Jay-Z. Super Bowl. >> I mean, there there is a lot of. potential for appearances. >> Yeah.
>> He's made songs with everybody, you. know, throughout the history of. different genres of music. So, if he. just goes himself the whole time would. be one of the most hilarious and epic. moves of all time. But let's assume that. all this uh work that Jay-Z's currently. doing going on tour all of a sudden, okay, get back into shape, I think, for. for stage shape. Let's assume he's going. to put together a hell of a show. I. assume the collection is going to be. pretty absurd. This is the Apple Music. halftime, right? He's been the one. that's been in charge of uh selecting.
who are going to be the halftime. performances. So, there's obviously a. lot of, >> oh, that's nice. Hey, that you know. what? Pick pick me. I actually I. actually do that. A lot of people saying. that, but let's assume that Jay-Z will. piece together a phenomenal show for the. halftime. He knows how many people are. going to be watching. He knows what's at. stake. And he has a library of songs. that have so many features and collabs. uh of just absolutely 25 uh Grammys. Is. that the number? I think it's 25 Grammy. awards, I believe, is what uh Jay-Z has.
has won in his entirety. And I I mean, he's not going to put Kanye up, is he? Is Kanye coming back? >> Are we watching the Throne, bro? Are we. in Spanish? >> I mean, Watch the Throne. One of the. greatest albums of all time. >> Yeah, but there's some stuff that's. happened since then. >> Certainly a lot. But it feels like he's. selling out stadiums again. Little Mr. Carter. I mean, not a lot of people are. I mean, Eminem, Beyonce, >> Eminem. I mean, you got. >> Lenn or.
>> some others. I mean, you got full You. got a lot of collabs. There's a chance. that this could be Yeah. Who else? Who. are you talking about? >> So many people I can't even think of. There's so many, but I know there's some. big time performers out there that he. has collabed with. >> Like, like, go ahead. Let me. >> You guys pretty much named them all. I. don't know. I'm not as pop culture. >> Yeah, it's. >> Bibs. Lincoln Park. I don't know if. they've ever worked together, but I. assume they know each other. Yeah, >> I don't think Bees and Jay-Z have. >> They definitely haven't, but I assume. they know. >> They've been in a studio together. >> Certainly. >> G Swift.
>> All right, Jay. Appreciate you. Good. luck out there. >> That has the potential though. >> Yeah. >> You saw Raj Gadell. He said like I guess. when they made the agreement to put him. in charge that hey, at some point you. have to say to him. Yeah. >> Hey, a part of the agreement here is. that at some point you do. The Super. Halime shows, right? I assume that's. accurate, you know, and uh Roger. >> won't lie. >> I don't think so. And Roger Goodell, I. think, uh, understands what the Super. Bowl is in the NFL, understand the.
massive piece. You don't get paid for. that, right? >> That's like the thing. You don't. >> You end up paying your own money, right? Like couple million of your own to put. on the show. >> Who Who did that with all the weekend? the weekend spent however many millions. of dollars to build up his own set to do. the entire thing because you know what's. going to happen whenever you have what. 600 million however many million people. watching one thing you have the uh. possibility to I think Tom Petty I think. was the first one that really opened my. eyes to it did the halftime show and. then the next day like all the Tom Petty. [ __ ] was just like. >> back at number one. >> sold out it's like it's a crazy.
>> platform by Bunni Samanito last year. that was the halftime show. >> yep a lot of cool Easter in there. >> It was forgot about that. >> It was then turn on over here. >> Timberland, Janet Jackson. >> Yep. >> They did have an alt cast for the. halftime show last year. >> My name is King. >> Oh, what a time. >> Super Bowl halftime show. You know, he's. kind of uh a huge platform that has. become a huge discussion point. And um.
Jay-Z doing his Yeah. Thanksgiving game. with uh Eminem and Jack White, everything. That was a phenomenal time. >> Eminem and his business partner were the. ones like picking who does that too and. they he picked himself and that worked. out pretty good. >> I think Jack White asked him if he would. come join him up there. From my. understanding, I think Jack White was. like, "Hey, you have to come up please.". Uh, and be a part of it. And. nonetheless, that show was. >> spectac a lot better than we had seen. some Thanksgiving performances in the. past. >> May I'll say.
>> you remember everybody's watching. Let's. come on. Okay, we all know what we're. talking about here. It's like they went. to Home Depot and bought a $119. inflatable and thought that was going to. get people going crazy. >> Artsy, >> they had stairs, too. And then it was a. long walk. >> and they made a lot of money. >> Terrible. >> Who did that? >> They did. >> Yeah, they saved on set. >> Oh, yeah. I guess overhead. Not that. money. >> Party city. >> microphone,
>> right? That's it. >> Blow up castle. >> They brought them themselves. >> Let me walk out here. That was your. stadium, Foxy, doing that to the rest of. America. >> Yeah. Listen, we had to have that moment. in order to get Jack White and Eminem. So, I'd say that actually was worth it. >> I think the way that Jack White and. Eminem were able to get the crowd in. there. >> without taking up too much space. They. were able to get the crowd in there and. the way they were filming it, it looked. like a massive crowd because, you know, whenever. it looks a lot better when hands are, you know, it's like the way they pieced.
that show together. >> Yeah. >> For Thanksgiving was spectacular. And. I'll be very curious who they picked. this year. I know Dallas already picked. theirs. I don't remember who it was. I. decided it was announced. Yeah. So. Detroit Lambert. >> Yeah. There you go. >> Miranda Lambert. >> Miranda Lambert. One of the writers of. Choosing Texas. So let's assume if the. Dallas Cowboys h Thanksgiving halftime. that we're probably going to be choosing. Texas a little bit out there as well. >> Is Ella performing it though? >> She better be. >> Yeah. What do you mean? >> What about Drake? >> Should come out. Oh, who.
drinks. on Thanksgiving? >> Happy 40th Champagne Poppy. >> Heard he had a good time out there. You. know, the country music world was super. excited that he started uh drinking. by himself. >> Bone's favorite song right now. >> Oh yeah. >> He going to run through that glass. >> What do you mean? >> HE DIDN'T CUT HIS TEETH IN NASHVILLE. JUST CUZ HE WENT to one Langley concert. doesn't mean he can do country music. that ain't something like I think. champagne pop. You can kind of do.
whatever. >> do whatever you want. I think that's. kind of how that work. Congrats Jay-Z. >> Oh yeah. >> AND BABY. >> rock boys in the building tonight. LeBron James might go out there. >> That'd be cool. And sing. >> I mean, that's. >> why not. >> Or just hoop. >> Uh, it's going to be a show. It's going. to be spectacular. It's going to be. cinema, as they say. >> Yeah. But nobody is as cinema as the man. that's about to do this right now. >> Okay.
>> Former actor, then became a writer, then. became a director, and then he say, "No, I'm going to do all of it." They call. him an aur. >> This man's brain and creativity is never. ending. It's literally like the Olive. Garden uh soup and salad bowls that just. have a nonstop plethora of awesome. I. had the incredible opportunity of being. a part of a movie that this man aoured. which is coming out October 30th in. theaters November 25th on Netflix. It is.
a spectacular. war. What's the cost of war movie that. involves four college football. all-Americans going to the Marines and. inevitably setting up a football game on. Christmas Eve called the Mosquito Bowl. The movie is going to be something that. I think people are really going to. enjoy. I think people are going to learn. from and I think people will say he did. it again. The he ladies and gentlemen,
Peter Bird. >> Yeah, Peter. >> Love you guys. Good morning, Pat, AJ, Darius, everybody, the whole team. So. good to see you fellas. >> Hey, Peter. Good morning, Pat. >> I adore you, man. I love you. >> Well, it's very nice of you. I love you, too, Peter. And we all love you, Peter. Don't we? I mean, we all. Peter, uh, with how kind you've been to. all of us. I think it's impossible for. us not to love you. I mean, Ty went to. school for cinema and then him being a.
part of this entire process, getting a. chance to learn how you operate. You. letting me into your world to experience. it. We love you, but let's not talk. about the love we have for you. Let's. also talk about the love for the things. that you create. Me getting a chance to. see the Mosquito Bowl last week at the. premiere uh TCL Theater out there in Los. Angeles was a outer body experience, I. would say. First time ever seeing myself. act, obviously on that big of a screen. Once my part was over, I could breathe. and enjoy your movie and watch a movie. I had tears at the end of this. I think.
I'm not the only one. Can you tell me a. little bit about what it's been like. showing people for the first time this. Mosquito Bowl? I know you've been doing. a lot of screenings with a lot of. different people from Marines, I think, to senior citizens and everybody in. between. What has it been like kind of. showcasing this work? And what is it. normally like for you as people now will. start to judge the hell out of your art, if you will, brother? >> Yeah. Yeah. Uh, it's been amazing, Pat. it uh you know when when Buzz Bishinger. who's my crazy cousin who wrote Friday. Night Lights uh which which I did you.
know as a movie and a TV show when he. told me he was cooking up a new story. about this football game that was played. with all American college football stars. Marines in Guadal Canal Christmas Eve. 1945 he's make he and he had this idea. for it and he told me that after the. game these Marines all shipped off went. to Okinawa and most of them died. fighting in Okinawa. When Buzz told me. this, I had a feeling he was on to. something special. I felt it with Friday.
Night Lights and I felt it with Mosquito. Bowl. And this dude Buzz, man, when he. when he gets his hands on something like. like football and writes about it, it's. not just about football. It's about. life. It's about all the things that you. guys know. It's about family and. community and love and all of the things. that really go into football. when he. told me he was doing something about. war, I had a feeling he was going to do. the same thing. So, it is a war film. It. is a football film, but it's really more.
than that, man. It's a film about the. Brotherhood. It's a film about. sacrifice. Uh, and showing it now to. people, whether we're showing it to a. bunch of hipsters at the Men's Chinese. Theater or we're showing it to 700. Marines down at Camp Pendleton, the. reaction is uh it's it's really good. And it it feels great for me and I'm. just, you know, one guy. You you. understand this. There's hundreds of. people behind me, my crew, my team, you,
Pat, who are part of this um that that. all work so hard to kind of find the. soul of Mosquito Ball and I cannot wait. for you guys to see it. >> Yeah, I'm excited for the world to get a. chance to see it as well. I love the. opportunity to watch it early amongst. the hipsters out there uh at the Chinese. Theater. Everybody was so nice to I. appreciate that. But your team you. mentioned there, Ezra and Alex and. everybody at Netflix and your editors, the amount of time that you put into. crafting this movie, I did not fully.
understand because I don't know your. business as well. You lived in Australia. for how long to shoot this movie? Just. so people. >> for seven. So I I live I've been doing. this now for about two years. I started. with my research. I went to the island. of Okinawa and the Marines that are. there and we got a whole bunch of uh. incredible Marines, hundreds of. thousands of Marines in Okinawa right. now. Shout out to everyone in Okinawa. Um and they took me, several of them. took me on a tour of what the Marines.
went through on that island. And for. anyone that doesn't know, it was. hellacious fighting. It was some of the. nastiest fighting of World War II. Hundreds of thousands of Americans, Japanese, and Okinawa civilians were. killed. Uh it was brutal fighting and. they took me inch by inch from the. center of the island all the way to the. southern tip where the war ended. And uh. it's pretty intense. You know, you see. where I don't I don't mean to get all. heavy early in the morning, but this is. what happened. Women were throwing.
themselves off of cliffs thinking that. the Marines were going to do horrible. things to them because that's what the. Japanese told them. And the Japanese. officers were all committing sepico, which is, you know, suicide. And you you. go to these places and you stand on. these cliffs and you feel it and it. really gets into your into your blood, man. And um that got me going. Uh, and. then I went to Paris Island where you. went and I spent three weeks with these. young recruits, these 17, 18year-old.
extraordinary young men and women and. the drill instructors who were training. them and I would spend my days at Paris. Island and then I'd go to this tiny. little motel right off the base and it. would just pour out of me, you know? I. just start writing it. Um, and I just. had a lot of fire. I had a lot of fire. You you always try and have fire for a. movie. It's like you always try and show. up to play a football game. Sometimes it. just works out a little bit better. Um, but I definitely was feeling it and I.
think you felt it when you were down. there with us. >> Yeah, definitely in Paris Island got a. chance to learn and experience what it. what it's like uh in their world and so. much respect. First the fight. So. everybody that's going into the Marines. is being told, "Hey, you are fighting. No matter what time of uh era you sign. up for the Marines, the Marines are. fighting. That is the group of people. they So that's a story you're telling. and I think it hits so close to home and. you lived in Australia for 7 months. You've been editing this for 18 months. Uh obviously you do all the recon and. research as you type this out off of uh.
the mosquito bowl book from Buzz, but I. think this was a real passion project. for you too, right? Dad Marine, I think. And also you're one of the biggest. football fans on earth. So this is kind. of combining family life, world history. and a phenomenal tale. Feels like this. is everything that Peter Berg is kind of. attached to in real time in one film. which is why I felt so honored to be a. part of it. But can you tell me a little. bit about that being a passion project. as well? And maybe a lot of people are. saying your best film ever, brother. I. mean that is being discussed by many.
many folks. I think it's because it. pulls so many strings of yours. Is that. something you agree with or no? >> Yeah, for sure. I mean, look, obviously. I love football. Um and uh I'm a. passionate football fan and I I think I. understand the sport fairly well and I. love it. Um, I have done films like Lone. Survivor and am, you know, pretty clear. on the fact that I have tremendous. support and love for for the men and. women of our military and I think we owe. it to them to pay uh respects and to.
acknowledge what they do and the risk. that they take. So, those are two big. things for me. I think the added kicker, Buzz's father was a Marine, uh, fought. in Okinawa. My dad was a Marine, served. during the Korean War. Um, and when I. was a kid, my dad made sure I understood. the Marine Corps. And he took me to the. World War II Museum, which for anyone. that's in New Orleans or thinking about. going to New Orleans, you must go to the. World War II Museum. It's an a.
mindblowing place. It will humble you, bring tears out of your eyes. He would. take me there. He would take me to the. Marine Corps Museum in DC. He would take. me to the Marine Corps barracks or the. Marine Silent Drill Platoon marches. And. Pat, you saw them. We got them to come. to our premiere, which would have made. my dad so incredibly proud. And my dad. also took me to Arlington Cemetery. often. And my dad is now buried at. Arlington. So during the course of this. film, I would take trips down to. Arlington and talk to my dad about the.
movie and what he was thinking. And I I. like going and visiting my dad uh in. Arlington. Me for one of the reasons. because I get to do all the talking. finally and he has to listen. And so we. have what I think are fair conversations. compared to some of the other ones. But. um yeah, uh my father would have been. incredibly. uh into this movie and proud of it. And. it's been so cool to see, you know,
young young people see this film. And in. DC, we showed it to the oldest Marine. from Okinawa, the only living man left. alive who uh is 99 years old who um was. at the Mosquito Bowl and afterwards uh. he just was holding on to my hand and he. wouldn't let go of it for 10 minutes and. telling me about the game and telling me. about his friends and um you know it's. uh it's special. It's special to be able. to you know you try and hit them all.
deep and hard. Um, and sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. Um, this one I feel. really good about. >> Yeah, I I mean it was a it's a. phenomenal movie. Now, I'm biased. because I'm a huge fan of yours. Uh, both the work you do even even back when. you were an actor. Absolutely crushing. it. Young, handsome Peter Berg and a. model, by the way. People forget about. how handsome, you know, Peter Berg was. and is. But I also uh just America the. greatest generation and also football.
kind of coming together. I think it's a. nice reminder that America you know has. been a place in the past that has stood. up for the good of this world but also. there is a lot of reminder to people. about what actual war is and there's. wars happening right now and I think. whenever whenever you made the movie I. think you were very diligent on a lot of. things. Tone has a question for you. Peter. Yeah, Peter, obviously when. you're making a war movie and all the. best war movies portray war accurately. and just, you know, how just absurd war.
is overall and you know all the feelings. that come along with that. How important. was it to you in this to portray what. was going on accurately and then also to. portray the Marines accurately because. that's a huge part of this. >> Yes, I mean uh yes to to to both of your. questions. Uh the movie the movie is. very violent. Uh, it's it's pretty. intense. Pat, would you agree with that? >> Was that Go ahead, Peter. I'm sorry. I. think you got AJ. >> Oh, I said the movie the movie is in.
fact a pretty violent portrayal of. combat. Uh, and um, you know, for those. who've seen it, um, we we don't. sugarcoat it. Uh, it would be. disrespectful to the Marines who fought. in the Pacific campaign and islands like. Eoima, Teroa, Okinawa. These were. unimaginably unimaginably horrific. battles and you know these were young 18. 19year-old kids who were you know. storming beaches. fighting on these tiny little islands. and on the other side there were.
thousands of young Japanese kids dug. into holes waiting for these Americans. and they just fought to the death. There. was no surrender. It was kill or be. killed. These soldiers had no. bulletproof vests. They had no. communication. and they didn't have air. support flying over them. There were no. drones there. It was just quite simply. fight with your brothers. Uh win or die. And because of that, we wanted to. capture a certain level of intensity. We. went after that, you know, very very.
hard. And as far as paying respect to. the Marines, 100%. Uh one of the things. that, you know, the the movie opens with. a quote by President Hoover. He says, "Old men declare war, but it is the. youth that must fight and die." And I. believe that that's a very powerful. quote. And we all need to, you know, be. real careful about where and when we. decide to send our Marines, our armed. forces. As I like to say, if you ask the.
Marines to go, they will go. So I think. it's really important for anyone that is. not serving to think about this to ask. our leaders who are you know in the. position to send them are are we making. the right choices? Are we sending them. to the right places? Do we have a plan? Do we have a plan to get out? These are. important questions because um you know. uh 75 million people died on planet. Earth in World War II. 75 million.
people. Um about 18 million died in. World War I. So if you look at World War. I, 18 World War II, 75 million. I don't. want there to be a World War II. >> I want people to play football. I want. people to hug their families. Um I want. us to have a strong military and I want. us to be real careful about what we do. with them. >> Amen. And I was in talkback with AJ uh. when you asked me if I thought it was. case. Yes. I think it is a very violent.
movie. I think it is very uh wellshot. I. think you are known for that and I think. this is um it takes you in there. I I. mean you you feel it as you're watching. it. And I think what you're talking. about with the 75 million deaths and the. 18 million in World War I, 75 million, I. think there is a a um you know, like a. rewiring of your system after watching. it, you know, like cuz I mean I don't. want to talk too much about the shooting. of the movie, but there was some real. dangerous I mean Peter Berg's not like a.
green screen guy. Okay, this is. >> Yeah. >> Not a lot of green screen. I mean, wanted wanted the movie to feel like a. participatory. uh experience for the audience. You're. not a spectator. You're not sitting back. with your arms crossed. We wanted to try. and put you in the middle of it and make. you feel uh as destabilized as those. young men must have felt trying to move. through these islands. Uh that that that. was the goal. And you know, I think. about uh you know, AJ, think about, you.
know, when you were when you were. playing college football, you were an. all-American. These guys, Tony Bukovich, Dave Shriner, these guys were all. American football players, just like. when you were at Ohio. And um imagine if. in the middle of your career something. like Pearl Harbor happened and you just. put the football down and volunteered, went to Paris Island. You had eight. weeks of training and you're then on a. ship being sent out to a little island. told to get off that island and go kill. anybody that you that that's in front of.
you. And you know, um, Christian. McCaffrey came and worked with us a lot. and he worked with Ray Nicholson, our. actor, and Christian would talk about. that like could not imagine, uh, being a. young college all-American football. player, and suddenly you're asked to go. and do that. I think it's it's pretty. powerful. >> Yeah, I'd say it's very powerful. Well, now on that note, AJ has a question for. you, Peter. >> Yeah, Peter, you mentioned like it's. always good to have that fire. You you. get down at Paris Island and go back to. the hotel and be typing up and just have. that fire. Not this movie feels pretty.
easy to sustain that fire, I guess. But. has there been movies in the past where. sustaining that fire for 7 months, two. years as you're working through a. project might be a little more. difficult? >> So, I I like to say that that uh you. know, movies are like my children. I. love all of them. Uh maybe secretly. sometimes I love one just a little bit. more depending on uh you know a bunch of. things. I love all every movie I've. made. Um and and my passion is generally. pretty strong but certainly the movies.
like Lone Survivor, Friday Night Lights, Patriots Day, this one um uh Deep Water. Horizon, these are these are non-fiction. stories. These are real stories. And. then I can go do my research. I can go. live with the college high school. football team in Texas for a lone. survivor. I embedded with the SEAL. platoon in Iraq for a month. I can get. into it and I can feel it. And whenever. I feel it like like with mosquito bowl, my energy is endless. Uh and um if it's.
not, if it's something that's maybe a. little bit more made up, my energy is. good. But I'm not, you know, when I'm. making a movie like Mosquito Bowl, I. know we're going to show this at Camp. Pendleton or at Paris Island. Um, I know. we're going to show it to families. who've lost loved ones uh in in in all. wars, and we're going to be held. accountable to a very high standard. So, that gets me up early. That keeps me up. late. Um, that gives me uh Pat McAfee.
energy, if you know what I'm talking. about. >> I don't I don't stop. I won't stop. >> He's actually like that. AJ, you should. see him on set. It was so cool. The days. uh I got to shoot some scenes. Obviously, I'm working, so I'm listening. to Peter coach me. And there's some I. mean, he's the coach. That's what he is. He's general manager. Put the [ __ ]. together. Um he's also the game manager. because he's put the script together for. the game. And he's also the coach. And. that was my first time acting, AJ. Okay. So, I had no [ __ ] idea what any of. this was. I had no clue when I get.
there. All right. You're going to hop in. a car. I think the guy's name was Tim in. Australia. Drove me around. I appreciate. you, mate. He was incredible down there. He drives me. Get into a trailer. Okay. They have me entire schedule. You're. gonna sit here for You got three minutes. to sit right here. Okay. In this. trailer. Good luck. Now, you're gonna. get up. You're going to a wardrobe. You're going to cuss. I get into the. thing. Okay. They have it all. Now, you're going over to makeup. Okay. Here's your hat. All right. Sweet. Now, you're getting into this. We're going to. drive you over to the set. The set was a. shut down train station in Brisbane. The. entire train station. They they shut it. down. Built Paris Island on there. So,
as I'm pulling up in this thing, I'm. like, "Holy [ __ ] this is a lot. There's. this is big. This is This is a big. thing, dude. The amount of people that. were working on it, the amount of. cameras, the space that it entailed, what it was. And then you got him in his. I don't know what it's called. You have. all the screens in front of you. He's. got a headphone. He got headphones on. One on, one off. He's throwing. >> Video Village. >> Yeah. Video village maybe or whatever it. is. He's got this little. >> center. >> What's that? >> No, keep going. I'm with you. >> Yeah. What is that called there? What is. that area called? >> Video village. A AJ's right. Video.
village. AJ knows the movie biz. So, he's over there at Video Village. He's. got one headphone on, one headphone off. He's got a microphone right there that. has [ __ ] the whole place. Okay. If he. needs to talk to everybody, he's talking. to everybody. He's got this little uh. like uh uh gadget, little soft thing. he's throwing back and forth, watching. the screen, and then all of a sudden, he'll just scream THINGS OUT. UH TRY SAY. FIFI FAUX F NEXT TIME. OKAY. And then. I'm just sitting there. I'm like, Jesus. [ __ ] Christ. Here we go. I can't. believe I'm on a Peterberg film right. now. and the way you talked to me,
coached me, and kind of guided me. through that entire thing that I. certainly was not supposed to be a part. of. I am so grateful and thankful for. you. And it I want to let you know it. was an honor to play for your team, coach. I would like to let you know that. you're you're a great coach if you were. able to get into that. And I think that. is a huge part of your role as director, let alone the aur part, but I was very. thankful to be a part of your team, man. And uh I think everybody would say that. that works for you. >> I appreciate it. And I've talked to a. bunch of football coaches and there are.
similarities. You know, depending on the. moment, you've got to know about. electricity, construction, clothing, uh, and the big one is human psychology. You. know, it's like trying to coach a. football team. You've got multiple. personality disorders all playing on the. field at the same time, and you got to. figure out how to kind of, you know, get. everybody moving in the same direction. Um uh and and you've got to figure out a. way of communicating and you got to kind. of do it fast and sometimes you've got.
to be very gentle and nurturing and. other times you got to just come over. the top and say just shut the [ __ ] up. and do it. Uh as it's written and that. works for some people, a lot of people. it doesn't. But um I really really. enjoyed working with you. You you were. you were dedicated. You were an open. book. you just you wanted to be of. service to the drill instructors, to the. Marine Corps. You had your buddy Pat. with you who is a Marine. Uh any any. Marine is a Marine for life, so he's was.
a drill instructor. Um, you know, when. when you're dealing with this kind of. world, real real life stuff, um, it just. kind of exists on a higher frequency and. everybody wants to to do the very best. job they can because they know who's. going to be watching this movie and they. don't want to let them down. And you. were part of that, man. >> Thank you. >> Cheers. >> Him. You should tell me. Cheers to you, dude. It was fun and an honor to watch. you work and all the actors from my. understanding. I didn't know this. I was.
told this afterwards. You know, they're. going to take some days of their. shooting in Australia for this American. sports talk show host to yell in our. faces. This is what we're doing for this. movie. This is a big time war movie. This guy's never acted before. I think. they're all like uh what type of trained. is it? The super the Shakespearean. trained. Yep. >> These are all Shakespearean trained. actors. These are all, you know, Ray. Nicholson's obviously been doing his. Scarsgard's been doing his Tom Francis. I think he has won awards over and then. Dson was just the He-Man star movie over.
in there. The these are all like very. good [ __ ] thespians. Like the these. guys are phenomenal actors. I think. there was a great reason why you picked. them to be the gentleman that they were. and how they went about doing their. business. But I think from my. understanding afterwards I learned that. some of the agents had some questions on. why the guy never [ __ ] acted before. is in this movie we're doing. But how. kind the actors were to me. Like Ray. Nicholson came up to me after like the. first uh take that I did. First take a. lot of talking. First take he comes up.
to me. He goes, "Brother, you should not. be this good as you are right now. You're crushing this." And I'm like, "Thanks, man." Like I kind of needed. that obviously because I have no [ __ ]. clue what's going on. And then Bill. Scarsgard, he comes up to me. He's like, "Hey, don't change anything, mate. You're killing it right now." I'm like, "Thank you. Thank you." Like really, like they knew that I was probably. imposttor syndrome times a thousand at. that set with how big of a movie it was. And then you coaching me up. It's one of. my favorite things. I'm giving a speech. at the end, okay, about their family. failing them and me, I am to fix them in.
eight weeks to get ready for what they. are. Their relationships have been. terrible. Then I pick up the rifle. Then. I do the rifleman's creed, the seven. things in there. And uh the first time I. go through it, I think I nail it because. I hit every word. Okay, that's what I'm. like, man. I [ __ ] hit every word, bro. I I don't need a damn. I feel like. I crushed it. He comes out to me. He. goes, "Hey, you know that song?" Ball. with the ball to bang the dang diggy. diggy diggy said the boogie set up. Jump. the boogie. I said rock. Yeah, I know. that song. He goes and then what? Ball. with the ball to bang the dang diggy.
diggy diggy said the boogie sit up jump. the boogie. Ball with the ball the b I. need you to ball with the ball of this. thing. That's literally that's literally. what he said to me. And then it was like. two seconds later he's like all right. again. And then you just walk off. And. it was like such a good coaching like. point to me and it made your entire. point make sense. And then as I'm going. I'm like literally as I'm walking over. the rifle I'm like we're [ __ ] ball. with the ball now. Here we go. Like as. I'm doing it. So I just want to let you. know thank you to you. Thank you to.
everybody that was on that set for being. so kind to me. And uh it was an honor, bro, to be a part of that [ __ ] actually. And thank you. Thank you. Thank you. >> Well, thank you. Thank your team. Uh AJ, I love you. You guys bring a lot of. happiness to uh a really rough world at. times. Uh and I just love how seriously. you actually do take sports. You joke. about it, but I know how much it means. to you. I know how you live for it and. it is important and what you're doing is.
very, very important. So, I tip my hat. to the whole team. >> Well, we love you, Peter. Okay, we have. a couple more questions here. Not just. about Mosquito Bowl, but about the biz. You're obviously one of the greatest of. all time. Debbut has a question for you. Yeah, Peter, you've been film making for. a long long time now. I just want to ask. you, we were just talking about. coaching. We're talking about baseball. earlier, football, and kind of the more. things change, the more they stay the. same. I just want to know where like. what type of things that you stick to. from the beginning, and then where have. you evolved the most when it's came to. film making?
Um, so I I've I guess one of the things. that I I stick to um is the idea of like. draft the best athletes and and let them. let them do what they do best rather. rather than um trying to control uh. trying to control everything. I just. look for really talented people more. than I used to. When I did my first. movie a long time ago, very bad things. I was so insecure. I I felt like, talk. about imposter syndrome. I had somehow.
bluffed my way into having Cameron Diaz. and uh uh Jeremy Pivven and John Favro. I was making my first movie. I had no. clue. If somebody walked up to me and. said, "Good morning." I'd say, "What the. [ __ ] does that mean? What are you trying to say to me? What. is What are you trying to say to me?". And they'd say, "Well, I'm just I'm I'm. I'm just saying good morning, Pete." I'd. be like, "I'm watching you. Don't do. that." Um, I was I was really tense, you. know, and um, as I've continued to make.
movies and, you know, I feel fortunate. to been able to do this for a long time, I'm more relaxed. I'm more willing to, you know, just kind of get the best. people around me and say, "Hey, you guys. show me." Uh, Phil Jackson was one of my. favorite coaches, and I used to love the. way he wouldn't call timeouts. you know. that the the Lakers would be like on the. wrong end of a 18-point run and he just. let him play and he just sort of let it. let it evolve and let it work out. And. obviously it did more times than it.
didn't and now that's kind of my my. biggest approach is I have I have ideas. I have a plan, but I'm going to let you. kind of do your thing and I'm going to. watch it and I'm going to encourage you. to do whatever it is you're doing. If. you're acting, if you're holding a. camera, if you're an editor, if you're. an actor, you show me. Show me what you. want to do. I know you're good. I know. you have talent. Let's see what it is. And if it doesn't work for me, I'll kind. of control it. But like with Pat, you.
know, like he's making a joke about the. kid rock, but I wanted him, you know, Pat didn't have that much experience, and I wanted there to be a build to what. he was saying. So, it started kind of. low, and it got bigger and bigger and. bigger. And I'm thinking, well, I could. talk to him about 20 for about 20. minutes about that, but I know that we. both like Kid Rock and I know he knows. that song and at least I was betting he. would and he did. And I was able to just. kind of find a way to communicate with. him without trying to control it. And.
that's been a big a big learning lesson. for me kind of in life. You know, I call. it loose hands. Don't hold on to things. so tight. relax a little bit and have. faith that talented people are gonna. gonna execute, you know. Um I did see uh. you know I'm a Giants fan and I saw my. coach after uh after the OT win. I saw. him just tackle his player and I could. relate to that because I I I feel that.
kind of love. >> Oh, you guys are good. >> Oh yeah. >> Oh yeah. >> Zach quick. >> Yeah. Well, it's waiting on you. We know. you're a Giants fan, brother. We knew it. was coming. talented guys. >> Quick. >> Yeah, we got Foxy and Bruce back there. Yeah, they're ready, bro. >> Cheers, fellas. Well done. You had no. idea I was going to say that. I got. goosebumps. Um, boys, >> but that that's that I relate to that. I. really relate to that. Not, you know, not not just because I'm a Giants fan. That could have been an Eagles.
player getting celebrated. >> Not this year. >> Sequin maybe. No, probably not this. year. But that that to me is um kind of. how I would I would like to I like to. kind of tackle and hug and up lift. people up and and try and pull the very. best out of people that I can. And I. didn't do that when it was very bad. things. And it was like this every time. someone morning said good morning to me. I was just uh I was I was an angry young. very insecure man. And I I just feel a.
little more comfortable. My hands are a. little bit looser. Coach Savin calls it. transactional to transformational. You. know, he used to be a transactional. leader. Then he became a. transformational leader where he was. trying to transform the relationships. and the process of what we're working on. as opposed to just trying to get wins. and losses. Wins and losses has you just. worried about everything that's. happening as opposed to a. transformational which we're working on. the journey to get to where we need to. get to. He talked about that with the. Michigan State Ohio State game where it. was one of the biggest upsets he's ever.
had. That was the first week he did. that. If they don't win that game, obviously they don't become what they. become. So, I think that's what you're. describing here. And once again, I'll go. back to you're a coach, bro. You are a. coach on that set completely. And I. think you do a phenomenal job. And you. talk about hugging guys. Can you tell me. a little bit about Ray, Bill, Nick, and. Tom? I mean, these guys, uh, I didn't. know, obviously I knew the names, but I. didn't know them personally. I knew it. I knew he was it. Well, so so when I say.
like I hired the best athletes, three of. those guys, Bill Scarsgard, Tom Francis, um, and Nick Alazine, two Brits and a. Swede, they don't know how to play. football. They they were not football. players. Nick a little bit. The other. two had never played football. And, and. they were like, "Why did you cast us?". And when I when I when I cast them, what. I was looking for, see, actors are all. the biggest liars in the world. I I have. a little inside a little Adam Schffer. for you. Okay, they're all liars. I I.
was an actor. I was a huge liar. If you. ask me, I can ride bulls. I can fly. spaceships. I can speak multiple. languages. So, they all told me they. could play football. I knew they were. lying. I'm like, you're lying. It's. okay, but you're lying. I said, I don't. really care. I'm looking for passion, you know, and I'm looking for someone. that can tell me why they connect to. this story, what they feel about the. brotherhood, why they understand that we. should acknowledge the sacrifice that. men and women make for our countries. And I could feel their passion. And I.
said to them when I cast them, I said, "We we can teach you up enough football, and we have great coaches and brought a. bunch of D1 players all the way to. Australia to help. we could teach you. enough football so so it it looks right. but you can't you just literally cannot. teach that kind of passion. So those. three guys had the passion. Ray. Nicholson uh was a big high school star. Didn't play a lot of college but very. good athlete. And so Ry and Christian. McCaffrey came down and being around.
Christian got the other guys dialed up. real quick because Christian doesn't. play. Uh I'm an incredible human being. cannot say enough about Christian and. that that entire family, but having his. presence around those guys. Um, it was. just like osmosis. He his his spirit. just poured into them and and those. those European fellas got it real quick. Um, >> there's Christian walking in with Tony.
Buckovich, which is uh played by Ray. He. was the. >> Yeah. So, uh, Christian Christian rocked. the Tony Buck jersey. That's Purdue. That kid, Tony Buckovich, was probably. the best offensive player uh in the. country uh in 1941, running back for. Purdue. Set uh still holds a Purdue. touchdown record, set the national. collegiate record that season. Then he. went off to war. Uh lost his life in um. Okinawa. And and uh Christian was really.
taken with uh with uh Tony Buckovich. I. would send Christian videos of Tony. running and Christian would call me back. and be like, "This was a man amongst. boys." He was doing things like nobody, as simple as it sounds, was like making. cuts and and transferring the ball back. in 1941. He was doing that. He was he. looked like like Sequin at times and. certainly looked like Christian and. Christian locked in on that. But to have. Christian uh as part of our family, helping these uh European actors learn.
what they didn't know because they had. the passion. And again, I'll go with. passion uh over, you know, skill any. day. I think you can acquire skill. You. certainly cannot acquire passion. >> Classic Peter Berg, too. We get footage. from the boys, you know, and then you. see what the actual clip is from the. movie and then you see it. It's like, yeah. And Tony Buckovich, AJ couldn't. have tackled his ass. >> Whoa. >> AJ could not have tackled his ass. >> You would have had to work for it. He.
would have made you work for it. Um like. uh you saw what Scataboo did last game, right? The uh if you have that right. now, I'm going to lose my mind. Okay. You don't have Scatteraboo. >> This is Buck. I think this is Tony Buck. >> Touchdown Tony Buck. Touchdown Tony. Buckovich. He was a man amongst boys. >> Yeah. I mean, look at him. I watch better angles, guys. >> Yeah. Set. >> Yeah. You'd be screwed up. >> They don't know anything about pursuit. angles in 1941, brother. >> Touchdown Tony.
>> Yeah. Touch and also touchdown Tony. being so damn good. You know, he's. electric off the field. He is. I He's an. electric character. Ray Nicholson, I. think, was the perfect person for it. But I think he loved all these guys. loved getting to know their characters. which I think was uh something that I. was kind of realizing in real time like. Bowman with no stars. Go ahead. >> And you know the these these these. players had um uncles and those uncles. had kids and those kids have kept alive.
the memory of Bkovich and Shriner and Ml. and Bowman. So the families are sending. letters and pictures and many. conversations to the actors which does. two things. It gives the actors real. insight into the characters going to. play and it also scares the [ __ ] out of. them because they know these folks are. going to be watching the movie and they. want to do a good job. They're not, you. know, every actors take all the roles. seriously. often times that when I did. Lone Survivor, uh, you know, Mark.
Wahberg having to play Marcus Latrell. and Marcus Latrell being on that set. every day saying, "Look, man, my. brother's died. This really happened. You get it right and you make sure. everybody gets it right. You make sure. that or we're going to have a real. problem." That that hits a little bit. differently than, you know, maybe a. romant romantic comedy where you're, you. know, Will Frell's roommate or. something. full respect, but it just. hits differently. Um, and you I love. comedies and I really love Will Frell.
This is um a different experience for an. actor when you know you've got not only. the family members, but you've got the. entire United States Marine Corps. watching. You you sit up a little bit. straighter and and you you lock in, man. You really lock in. >> Yeah. Yeah. Be a DI. Hey, you remember. Arley and Full Metal Jacket? Yeah. He. was an actual DI. Yeah, we know. That's. what we're talking about. It's like, okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna try my. absolute best. But I think the Marine. Corps, from my understanding, watching. it, proud of the story that's being told.
about the Marines. Ty has a question for. you, Peter. >> Yeah, Peter, I'd assume that throughout. the course of your career, especially. when you've been doing it this long, you're a little bit of a perfectionist. when it comes to your work. When you. have a movie like this that's like so. close to you personally, I assume. there's a bunch of stuff that got left. on the cutting room floor that you. absolutely loved and you wanted to have. in there. Uh how difficult has that been. now that like the film is complete and I. assume you've watched it like a thousand. times but do you have moments where. you're like a man I really wish that I.
could have included this part or you. know like day in day out or are you kind. of at peace with it and you're like you. know what no the movie is is perfect the. way it is and and this is how it needs. to be. >> right so I'm completely bipolar with. that one minute I'm completely at peace. right now if you ask me I love the film. I'm very happy with the cut. In an hour, I'm going to suddenly be like having a. cup of coffee and I'm going to just. remember something that I could have. done or something I left out and I'm.
going to go crazy and there's absolutely. nothing I can do about it. So, for me, part of the process is you learn that. you you have to let go. You have to make. decisions. Sometimes they're hard. decisions, you know, in our world. Like. when you think about the decisions that. the Marine Corps had to go through and. in World War II, these are not hard. decisions. These are uh you know, easy. decisions and I feel very lucky. But, you know, when I have to look at Ray. Nicholson who's watching a cut and he.
remembers some scene he did that didn't. make it into the film and he's looking. at me and he's just boring his eyes into. mine and he's sort of like, "Brother, why?" and I have to kind of explain to. him and there's no explaining that's. ever gonna um you know make that feel. 100% okay as an actor I have empathy for. that but um you know at the at the end. of the day you know to make a football. analogy you have to make decisions and. some players aren't going to get all the.
reps they want um you might make a. decision you regret but the goal is to. protect the film the overall 2 and 1/2. hours of the film and if something is. not working for whatever reasons. You. just have to make those choices and you. have to live with them. But I would be a. total liar if I said I didn't second. guessess myself. I do. Um and then I. just try and put it aside and say that. it it it was the right choice for the. film. >> for the good of the movie for the good.
of the program. >> Yeah. Well, and that that's what. matters, you know, like you got you got. to get the W and and by any means. necessary. Um and I don't always get it. right. Sometimes I'm like, you know. what? I actually got that wrong. I. should have put that in. Um, and I. missed that one. Um, and that's life. >> Yeah, it is life. But I think you got it. right with this movie. I mean, obviously, it's released this Friday uh. in theaters nationwide and then on. Netflix November 25th. It is uh it's.
powerful. I think it's moving. There's. moments of there's fun. There's pops in. there, too. You got funny moments, obviously. You get to know the. characters. you get to know the stories. behind them and then there's some brutal. brutal war in there. It feels like a a. perfect film from you, Peter. Uh just as. somebody that is very biased in it all. and on set it felt like you guys thought. it was good, too, right? It it like when. I got there you guys had already done a. bunch of shooting, but it felt like the. vibes were very high. It felt like. everybody kind of knew that good things.
were happening. Is that accurate? Is. that normal or no? Well, >> well, no, I I think it's accurate and I. think, you know, we did we brought. everyone in for about a month, a little. over a month for rehearsal, for football. rehearsal and military rehearsal. And. the real reason um that I like to do. that is, you know, you guys know about. the brotherhood. The brotherhood is. real. And you have to kind of go through. some highs and lows and you got to fight. with each other. You got to go out. drinking with each other. You got to. fight for each other. You got to spend.
that time, which anyone that's played on. a team certainly understands. And after. a month with the actors and with the. crew, you know, we were, you know, way. far away from our homes. We're in. Australia. We're awake. Everybody and. all of our loved ones are asleep back. here. We just kind of had each other. And I wanted that immersion. I wanted. the guys spending that much time with. each other. And there were fights. There. were moments where these guys at any. given moment these one guy didn't like. this guy and one two guys didn't like.
this guy. And I'm like great. Let's get. it all out. Let's fight. Let's argue. Let's get petty. I like let's get as. petty as we can and then let's let it. all go and let's start to love each. other here and let's start to look out. for each other and let's start to want. for each other to win and let's help. that help each other win. And I saw that. and I think by the time you got onto the. set there was a brotherhood there and. these guys are like ridiculous uh at how. close they are now. I haven't ever seen.
anything quite like that. A little bit. on Lone Survivor but um you know you. know what it's like to be on a team and. and what that brotherhood is and and you. know within the team you can say all. kinds of [ __ ] to each other and talk. smack and just you know have fights but. somebody from the outside comes and says. something no that doesn't that doesn't. work. you know, we are we are brothers. and um you know, not comparing the. brotherhood here to a Marine Corps. brotherhood, but if you can imagine, you.
know, a your a friend group brotherhood, then a football team brotherhood and. think what a team of Navy Seals or a. platoon of Marines gets into after. they've seen some combat. That is. brotherhood on the highest level. And. it's all, you know, there's a a chord. that connects it all. And what you're. seeing here was, you know, a a very real. version of the brotherhood. >> No egos. It felt like everybody I mean. at some point I assume there was egos. It sounds like he's describing during. boot uh training camp and boot camp that. they kind of went through there which is.
good. Let's get past it. Everybody. clearly had a common goal for the good. of the movie for sure. >> And getting to see everybody for the. first time since I'd been in Australia. It was great. And throughout this entire. press process that you guys have been. doing, the you guys have been together a. lot. It feels like everybody still loves. each other and enjoys the hell out of. each other. It has been once again I. can't stress enough. I was very lucky to. be a part of what you guys put together. over there and the crew that you. assembled. Phenomenal. We're talking. camera people, athletes, freak athletes. having to be in there, the actors,
obviously the the military and the. Marines that uh not only First Sergeant. Gartland who's in the movie, but the. military folks that came in to help. Everybody felt like they were part of. it. Everybody felt like they were part. of your team and your family. And uh we. appreciate you. I I think one of my. favorite things that happened I felt. like a real actor. So, you know, you've. heard about people being uh what is. that? Method actors where on the set. they are the person all the time. >> I'm I I was not I did not have the. capability to be a method actor because. if there was a pop a chance to get a pop.
somewhere during downtime, I was. certainly going to take that. Okay. I. was certainly going to, you know, kind. of do that because there's a lot of time. shooting with each other. I was only. there for two weeks. You do your thing. There's a scene though, you know, where. the boys are handtohand combat. Okay. They're fighting and I'm getting after. their ass in this thing. Okay. I'm. getting after it pretty good. We have a. break. I'm full sweat, by the way. Full. lather through this. And you'll see it. >> Yes, you were. >> I was full sweat in this thing. I was in. I mean, I was in this thing. During the. break, the boys come out to me. They go. and it felt like, man, I'm a real actor.
here. I got these guys. They're like, which one of us do you think could beat. you up if we had to? That's how mad. these guys were getting me like in. That's how mad they were. They were like. thinking and plotting about trying to. fight me in real life. And I'm like, "Yes, feels like I uh nailed the. character in which I was supposed to. do." But then I started thinking about. that and I asked First Sergeant Gartland. who was there. I was like, "What would. you do if a recruit came out to you?" He. goes, "I would fight them all right. there." Like, >> it was like a funny moment. It was a. funny but I felt like a real actor in. there where these guys were actually. getting so like worked up by the [ __ ].
that I was saying out to them while they. were fighting. They were thinking about. actually fighting me in the moment. I. was like, I feel like I did pretty good. here. I feel like I got the job done. Once again, they were very kind to me, but just them plotting and having that. conversation means that I did kind of, you know, seemingly represent a person. that they wanted to beat up, which I. think all recruits their DI. >> You got you got into their blood. You. were all over them and and and you. pissed them off and that's that means it. was working. I mean, that that was. fairly, you know, intense combat. Those. guys were hitting each other. Um, when I.
was doing my research at Paris Island, they took me to the fight pit and that. was one of the things that really blew. my mind. If you go down to Paris Island, way out in the woods, there's this like. gladiator pit and they take the young. recruits and these are 17, 18 year old. men that have never been in a fight. These are not fighters. These are not. Navy Seals. These are just young kids. who are about to in the middle of. joining the Marine Corps. And they just. take them, they get boxing gloves, they. do get a a lacrosse helmet, but they.
take the shield off of it and they just. make them fight. And u it's it's it's. pretty powerful. it's sort of done away. from, you know, the the the public eye. Um, and there there's an element of. safety. If someone's getting knocked. unconscious, they'll stop it. But it's. their first experience with real face. punch violence. And to see that and to. see these kids kind of waking up that. particular flavor of warrior spirit was. something I wanted to put in the film. because it I mean it was also like 4:45.
in the morning and I remember watching. these kids just beating the [ __ ] out of. each other at 4:45. Again, the drill. instructors are there. I have to say. this, making sure nobody gets really. hurt, but they're they're getting. they're getting [ __ ] up. There's. blood. And I remember I remember calling. my son. And it was 4:45 and I'm like, "What are you doing right now?" Cuz I'll. tell you what these kids are doing right. now. And um uh they're not sleeping. And. um it uh you know the scene that we.
recreated with you doing that when I was. watching you do it, I was right back to. Paris Island 4:45 in the morning. remembering what that energy felt like. And you know, that's what we were trying. to capture. And and that's why those. actors wanted to take a swing at you. because you were provoking them. >> Yeah, I was trying my best. >> You're a good provoker. >> Thank you. I was trying my best. First. Sergeant Gartland, who was an actual DI. at Paris Island for three and a half. years and I think two years in San Diego. and he this fighting thing is real cuz. in war you're going to you no knife, no.
gun. You were this other person. You got. to fight. Like you're going to have have. to actually do it. How do you teach. people how to fight? They got to fight. Like that is literally the only the only. way they figured it out. So, I was like. asking First Sergeant Gartland in there. I'm like, "How do you handle this?" He. goes, "You just got to know you can beat. the [ __ ] out of all of them if you have. to." And uh they got to know that you. can do that, but you got to actually. make killers out of these guys. You got. to like, if you see it, you got to tell. them to finish or you got to tell this. person to get the [ __ ] up and they need. to fight. It's like it's a real thing. This is survival. Like, there's a chance.
that these guys, first of all, you're a. Marine. You are tasked with making these. Marines. Every Marine has to be able to. fight. So, if somebody's getting a. [ __ ] ass kicked in here, that's bad. for the entire Marine Corps. It's bad. for the platoon that they're with. It's. [ __ ] bad for everybody. So, there's. no like, "Hey, better luck next time.". It's like, "Get your [ __ ] ass up and. get your ass back in there and fight.". And it was like listening to First. Sergeant Gartland like explain that to. me, it was like this is a real part of. First to Fight Marine. Like, this is. really what it is. So, it's just like. understanding everything a little bit.
more about the Marine Corps was a. privilege. It was an absolute privilege. to learn about them. But that scene, those guys afterwards coming up and be. like, "Who who do you think?" I'm like, "Yes, feels like this worked." And then. I asked First Sergeant Gartland. I'm. like, "I assume a lot of recruits want. to fight you." He goes, "Every [ __ ]. one of them. That is that is how this. goes. You got to let them know that. that's not how it is." So, it was uh I. felt like a real actor in there. I felt. like a real. >> What's what's what's so amazing too. about Paris Island is if you if you. follow these recruits for the 12 weeks, the 90% of the time the drill.
instructors are just in their face. They're provoking them. the they're. creating that kind of feeling where the. the recruits want to attack the Marines, but at the end after the Crucible when. they have the uh um anchor globe eagle. ceremony where they become Marines. Yeah. Everything changes and they they. they complete the crucible which is this. exhaustive 5-day event and it ends with. 30 mile march and they stand up on the. parade grounds and they're exhausted. They haven't slept in 5 days and the.
suddenly the drill instructors go from. being that kind of intense to shaking. their hands to telling them good job to. welcome them to the Marine Corps and. they pin them. And I'm telling you, the. first time I saw it, I I get emotional. thinking about it. I'm sobbing. These. young men are sobbing. The parents have. come. The parents don't even recognize. their children because whatever they. dropped off or whatever they took to. that bus station looks nothing like the. young man or woman that's standing there.
getting their getting their Marine Corps. pin. Um, and you realize that there's a. true method to to what the drill. instructors are doing. And I I just. think the drill instructors are. extraordinary human beings and they, you. know, they they are turning these young. men and women into people of character. and selfrespect and they also happen to. be quite dangerous by the time they get. out of there. And it's a it's a. beautiful transformation to watch. Yeah, that EGA ceremony, the Eagle Globe.
anchor ceremony, we I was able to watch. one and uh everything you're describing. so real. And we had just seen this. group, same group during Crucible where. they were dra underneath barb wire, shrapnel flying, face in mud, kind of. dragging through and because the DIs are. Marines. These recruits don't deserve to. be Marines. That's, you know, that's. kind of like the mindset like you don't. deserve to be what we are. And maybe if. you're able to get through this, you.
will finally deserve to be called a. Marine. But that's like the mindset that. I learned mostly from Paris Island and. from First Sergeant. It's like, yeah, these recruits don't deserve to be. called Marines right now. They they they. are nowhere near it. And our job is to. fix them and make them into something. that we can all appreciate. All right, Peter, we taking up a lot of your time. here. We appreciate the hell out of you, man. Mosquito Bowl Friday. I hope. everybody goes and watches it. It is a. incredible tribute to the badasses of. the past who took a stand for the entire.
world while also celebrating football. brotherhood and uh you know what has. actually happened in our world's. history. Peter, I think you did a great. job alongside your team. Thank you for. letting me be a part of it and thank you. for the time today, brother. >> All right. Thank you. Thank you, gentlemen. Love you all. >> Yeah, we love you, ladies and gentlemen. Peter Peter. >> All right, let's take a break. The. movie's good. Hell yeah. >> I was scared to death watching that. thing. I was scared to death going in. there. I was like, what if people get up.
and leave whenever my scene happens? Like, what if I [ __ ] Peter would. never put me in if I was bad? That's. what I think. Peter's too good of a. [ __ ] aurtor. He sent too much of his. life into this movie to put me in. something that's bad. It's like, well, but what if Peter feels bad? Because. Peter, I don't give a [ __ ] for the good. of the film. We're doing this. So, I. kind of came to ease as the movie was. starting. I was like, "All right, I'm. just going to take this in for what it. is." I've looked up how actors react. whenever they see themselves act for the. first time. >> None of it's good. I mean, none of none.
of it is good. So, I like didn't know. what was going to happen. And then the. movie is so [ __ ] good. And you like I. was so proud of like Tom and Ray and. Bill. And it's like, boys, Nick, it's. like thank you for doing what you did. They made a great movie. Let's get to a. break. I got to pee. You got to pee. >> Uh, you know what? I could hold it, but. I definitely will go pee as well. >> 2 hours and 4 minutes this movie. You. can make it through without peeing. >> Okay. >> I would say you should too before you go. in there. Let's go ahead. There's no.
reasons. There's never a cuz what was. that? Didn't uh Jordan Palmer create an. app that tells you when to call it run. pee, I think, or something like that. >> Run pee. I think I'm sure they could. find a time for you to get You shouldn't. though. I mean, it is a. two hours and four minutes. >> straight through. >> What a time. You might see this. the actual thing here. >> You might see this pretty important part. of the entire I think you've seen it a. couple times. >> It's in the trailer. >> Yeah. It's been sitting here ever since.
>> Oh, you stabbed. Yeah, you stabbed it. with a bayonet, didn't you? >> Yeah. Football's [ __ ] over, boys. >> Yeah. >> Okay. It's [ __ ] over. That is. basically what that is saying. That's. what Peter said. Peter said, "All right, >> we were going to have you punt the ball. naturally and say this ain't [ __ ]. football, but I think you actually. killing the [ __ ] football is probably. a better I'm" I'm like, "All right." And. he said, "And what you're doing here is. you're telling these [ __ ] guys, yeah,
the [ __ ] right. This ain't nothing like. you've experienced before." I'm like, "You got it." Crazy. >> So, this this football right here was a. part of the first scene that I shot over. there and also a pretty I think it's a. pretty big moment of the entire. >> kind of movie. The fact that I got to. take it out of there. Sick. >> Yeah, >> I did. I I picked it up at the end of. the scene and I just kind of take that. >> I just started walking. I just started. walking. >> And then I'm getting into the same car. as Peter on the way out to go back to. the trailer village or whatever it is on. the other side and I go, "I can keep.
this." And he goes, "Would love if you. did." I said, "You got it. I'm going to. put it on the set or on the desk." He. goes, "Oh, that's awesome. Every time I. see it, I'll I'll remember this day or. whatever." I'm like, "Cool." So, this. has literally been there since then and. uh I enjoyed that experience. I don't. think you're going to see me doing a lot. of acting. I mean, if Peter asked me to. do some again, I would certainly do. >> There you go. >> But I mean, Tulsa King so much fun. getting to learn from Sylvester [ __ ]. Very small roles in that. Just kind of. trying to learn as much as possible. about that particular business. This. past offseason trying to learn as much.
as I could about the music business. Just trying to become a more. well-rounded human being, you know, in. this entire entertainment space because. I have so much curiosity and interest in. all these things. And the fact that I. get to work with the [ __ ] best is a. blessing that I very much understand. Peter's been very good to me and I'm. very grateful and I hope the movie does. very well because everybody that worked. their asses off on are good people. >> All right, let's take a break on the. other side. FOOTBALL. >> HE'S OBVIOUSLY the sport that we're so. incredibly lucky uh to follow, cover, chitchat about, and make a living off. of. That man is a college football. national champion, Super Bowl champion, runner cup winner AJ Hawk. The talks the. tables here at Boston Connor and at Tai. Schmidt, one half OF THE HAMMER D. Cowboys AP Tony is here and nine-year.
NFL vet Darius J. Butler is here. Debb, what did we learn from Peter Berg right. there? Did we learn anything from the. Peter Berg conversation? Did you get. more excited about watching Mosquito. Bowl? Where did it kind of fall right. now at fresh out of that conversation? >> Definitely got more excited about. watching it. Just more background on on. his thought process and whole process. about you know making films and making. films obviously for three decades and. obviously we've all kind of been a fan. of his films and the different um you. know different eras. But I'm definitely. more excited about watching. >> Okay. I appreciate I'm happy to hear. that. That you know I think you were.
supposed to do a couple other. interviews. >> Yeah. I assumed that he was not supposed. to be on for that long. >> I mean there was a lot to talk about. There's a lot of talk about long. thoughtful answers. >> That's his call to him. >> Yeah, that's that's his call. He can. Nah, I'm gonna stick out with these. guys. >> I I've been very fortunate to break. bread with Peter on multiple occasions. Dumpy and I have been to his house, worked out at his house. I've been in. his cold tub, which he does every single. morning. Uh he does uh sauna real hot. and then he gets into the cold tub and.
sings Silent Night. >> And once it's over, >> he did tell us. He did tell us that. You're right on the show. Yeah, that's. real. very real. I got to do it. I got to do. it. Don't skip any words, okay? You. can't skip any words and don't sing. quietly. I need this thing to be extra. And I'm like, what is the deal? He goes. saw the Navy Seals do it. And uh they. were locking arms in the morning. And I. just thought to myself, that feels like. the right amount of time to be in there. So every morning he's in a sauna that's. over 100 uh 90, 195, maybe 200 degrees. or whatever it is. And then he's in cold.
tub singing uh Silent Night. And then he. stands up and he does 50 calf raises. because he learned in Korea, I think, that the calf is the heart of the legs. So, you need to work like this. So, he. uh yeah, it was I've got a chance to. learn a lot about Peter. He's been very. kind to me and he's a legend. And I I do. think the movie is I think it's a good. movie. I don't know how our people are. going to feel about us talking to Peter. Burke for that long, but um I don't know. how often you get a chance to chat with. somebody that might go down as a goat in. their world cuz he's only getting.
started in this aura. >> He loves it. That's what I took from it. That dude is passionate. He's an artist. and he absolutely loves what he is. doing. Like that's what when you hear. him speak like that's what I take from. like whatever he like when someone cares. about something that much it makes me. want to check it out for sure. >> Yeah, he's all in. He is all He lived in. Australia for seven I mean seven months. over there. Even a full month of. rehearsals feels crazy to me. >> Crazy. >> Yeah. And that was after he did. everything in Okanella and then 18. months of editing it. Him with the. editors in there, you know, just fully. immersed by the movie. So whenever you.
see a movie not do well, now me, how I. view it, it's like, man, >> the amount of time that people spent on. this thing for it not to do well has to. be heartbreaking. Which I guess is a. part of art. There's a chance that it. doesn't get well received. And I think. that's why Peter says like, uh, right. now I love it. There's might be. something that I don't love it. How's. the reaction? There's some kids I like a. little bit more, some movies I a little. bit more. That's also for how fans. because he's making it for an audience's. reaction. So, him thinking it's a good. one right now, I think, to him means a.
lot. He likes where he's at with it, but. it's not until you get the reaction from. others that he really is going to cement. how he feels. I think he's very, very. proud of the process in which they put. together, Ty. >> Yeah, I would assume so. And a lot of. times, you know, stuff appreciates like. that's why, you know, stuff will not. perform well sometimes and then like 10. years later it gets a cult following and. for whatever reason people don't. appreciate it at the time. I think it'll. be a little bit different with it. That. is one of the benefits it like the box. office doesn't really matter for this. I'm sure it'll do well, but like it's. going to be the number one movie on.
Netflix when it's on there for, you. know, like that's that's one of the. advantages to being on Netflix. But with. him, it's it's very refreshing because. now with movies, it's mostly like. sequels or, you know, like superhero. [ __ ] Like. doesn't really happen very often anymore. where like someone has an original idea, especially stuff like this, like based. on other source material. like it's a. lot harder to get that stuff made now. unless you're a guy like him who's kind. of doing everything. And it sounds like. like he realizes too like there's a lot.
of untapped potential in that area. So I. hope he could he keeps making movies. like this for because you know we get a. lot of the same [ __ ] now like it's just. like kind of packaged a little bit. differently maybe with a different stars. but like there there just aren't that. many movies like the mosquito bowl that. are being made anymore. >> I can't wait for the world to see it. I'm very honored to be a part of it. Now, let's talk about some NFL news, shall we? Tone, you and I both born in. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. >> Yes, that's true. >> Were you born McGee. >> Women's Hospital? Yes. >> Okay. Me as well. I don't think McCarthy.
was though. Coach McCarthy. Um, he said. another. >> born in a tub. >> No, maybe though. >> He He might have been in a tub. Maybe in. a Pittsburgh toilet. Who knows where. Mike McCarthy was born. I don't think it. was McGee. I think he said another. hospital. >> I can't remember. >> I forget what it was. Mercy. Yeah, maybe. it was Mercy. Whatever the case, whenever you're born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from the day you come into. the world, >> shut up. >> Yeah, >> you're a terrible towel. Okay, >> you're a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and you.
hate the Cleveland Browns. >> and then once you start to understand. things, you know, my my daughter's three. years, five months now, she's starting. to really understand everything. At that. age when you're from Pittsburgh, they. start telling you the [ __ ] hole of. society is Cleveland, Ohio. Okay, that. is just what it is. All fall it's. celebrated. The Browns suck. Cleveland. sucks. What a [ __ ] hole. Okay, I have. been on the record of saying. >> I did not expect.
>> Cleveland had like running water after. what I had been told my entire life. Here's coach Mike McCarthy talking about. it as Yinszer and now head coach of the. Pittsburgh Steelers. >> Somebody I was shocked the first time I. went to Cleveland cuz it it it looked. like nothing I was told it looked like. You know, it's they have nice suburbs. They got a good downtown and, you know, but the impression of, you know, of what. you think of the Cleveland Browns in. Cleveland as a kid is is different. So, yeah, I I enjoy I remember the the great. rivalries in in the old days, the.
cardiac kids, and you know, the history. of it, too. So, um that's cool. Um when. I do bring it up, I don't I don't think. some guys even know what the hell I'm. talking about. if I bring up the cardiac. kids, but so in you know some of the. some of those some of those years. >> oh yeah older obviously but that is the. propaganda and the brainwash that we. were given as children in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania don't think it's possible. now obviously with how much access kids. have to everything they probably see. pictures of Cleveland as kids. >> still possible. >> the only thing we saw is it still.
possible. >> the only we saw. >> probably more possible than ever. >> Pittsburgh news KDKA. >> Fedco you know what Fedco's showing n. Cleveland, dumpster fire. Hey, let's. take a shot of Cleveland, Ohio. Dumpster. on fire. Shitty Browns. All right, let's. get out of Cleveland. Who would ever. want to go there? Let's go somewhere. else. That is literally what I thought. I don't think Mike McCarthy is lying. right there. I think he's being 100%. serious whenever he says the sub. downtown. They got a casino done. I did. not know that. >> A real city. Yeah, it's like a whole. It's like a place where people actually.
live. Like, yeah, you could tell he's I. think he's dead serious. >> I genuinely felt that way as well. I. mean, like I actually felt that way. >> Tone still feels that way. Tone I Tone's. daughter's definitely got to be. brainwashed, I would imagine, thinking. the same. >> Well, it's it's crazy because I thought. Coach McCarthy was a man who would tell. you the truth. >> I have two uncles that live in. Cleveland. I've been to Cleveland. It is. a [ __ ] hole. >> The entire place is a [ __ ] hole. >> And you talk about the run. They do have. running water sometimes, but if it runs, it's on fire. Like they the whole all.
their water is on fire there. It's a. It's a piece of [ __ ] place. Yeah. I. don't understand. And I know Big Mike just doesn't want to. give Bolton board material, but if you. talk to him off air, he would say like, "Yeah, it is a piece OF [ __ ] PLACE.". >> NO, THAT'S NOT WHAT HE SAID AT ALL. >> THEY CREATED YOUR LOGO. >> YEAH, cuz he was being recorded and he. doesn't want to give them bolt. What. happened? They created your lo I watched. a football time. >> They created your [ __ ] logo. >> That's true. >> Well, the football time was all a lie, TOO.
>> You didn't write it. You just voiced it. over. goods. >> True. And I do wish that I could have uh. seen what I was voicing over for that. That's a different animal. It was an. honor to be a part of that as well. Did. some voice over. Now the mosquito ball. is pretty crazy. But you're right. Did. not know that the logo. >> iconic. >> came from Cleveland. I believe they had. a steel mill or something like that and. it uh got tossed over to. >> it burnt down. >> We don't. >> they used up all their good ideas on. that logo. Have you seen theirs? >> Hey, Brownie's a pretty good little. Yeah, Brownie's a pretty good little.
elf. I I think Mike McCarthy was just. flabbergasted by what he seen in. Cleveland just like I was. But I like. that he potentially now. >> you guys have you guys been media. trained to say this. >> I have you gone through the same media. training that I. >> No, I have not. >> Okay. You're saying we got to send you. to whatever person and Mike McCarthy. went to. >> Yes. You guys got You guys went to the. NFL. You're part of the NFL. So that's. why we didn't have to go through it. You. guys were media trained to say like, "Yeah, Cleveland's actually not that. bad.". >> Okay. Yeah, it is probably a rookie cuz. broadcast boot camp. I got rejected for.
that. I wasn't able to go to that. So. maybe Mike McCarthy goes to broadcast. rookie symposium. You're right. It's one. of those meetings. Hey, every city that. has an NFL team isn't a [ __ ] hole and. they just move on. >> Exactly. >> Pittsburgh kids here. >> Cleveland, good town. Keep it moving. going forward. I like that the rivalry. though might be coming back with Mike. I. think a lot of ys are [ __ ] Big Mike. McCarthy is going to try to push and. promote as much as possible. >> Yeah, I agree. I mean, he's he's. obviously, you know, born and raised run. through his veins and yeah, the rivalry. might come back. Well, they're the.
number one team in the AFC North. So, uh. you'll be looking up at the Browns with. Todd Monk in here for a little bit. Aaron Rodgers a lot more open uh I think. about who he is, what he is, and what. football uh being a football teammate. means to him. He he got a chance to. chitchat with Cam Hayward a little bit. Deb, I'm excited to get your take on. this about how he interacts with the. defense during practices at this stage. of his career. >> I'm constantly, you know, I think as. much as anything this year is really. talking to the defensive guys about um. stuff that I'm seeing pre- snap. I love. the conversations with like Asante.
because Asante is really interested in. having those like, "Hey, why'd you throw. this?" or "Hey, what do you think here?". And Brisker as well and Jaylen and I. have always, you know, last year had a. bunch of great conversations, but I. think those are really important ones. And and also Payton and PQ, there are a. couple times in some of their drops. early in camp where I was saying, "Hey, you're dropping way too fast to a spot. that we're not even threatening at this. point." I said, "Let me just tell you. what that does for me when you do this. movement and when you do that, when you. line up like this and when you give away. this pressure and what what I'm looking. at." So, I think that's really. invaluable stuff from both. So, what do. you think he's saying there? And AJ, after Debbuck gives his answer, has he.
always been like this? >> Oh, I would assume. I would assume so. for sure. I know as a young defender, I. would always have coming into the league. playing with Tom Brady, I would ask Tom. question. I would ask Wes questions, Randy Moss, all these guys just to get. their perspective. And then, uh, you. know, moving on as I got a little older. and then Andrew Luck came in, he was. always asking me questions like, "Hey, why would Reggie get open on this route. as opposed to this guy? Like, what did. he do differently? What's his coverage? Why are you playing it?" just getting a. different perspective really as a player. because we all know the what, you know, what we have to do, what's your.
assignment, but like learning like the. why, like why are we doing it, why does. it make sense, then what does it do to. the other side of the ball definitely. helps. Um, doing it with veterans, doing. it with young guys and look, you're all. in. So, like at some point these guys, if Aaron was in, let's say, year four, sometimes you kind of keep those secrets. a little closer because once you go to. another team, you know, you're going to. be telling your whole locker room that. But, um, now he's on his last, you know, last ride, last dance. I'm sure he's. more open about sharing things and I'm. sure, uh, you know, the guys around him. on offense and definitely on defense. will take it and run. We had a.
conversation with him actually at. training camp that I still remember just. talking about the other defenses that he. faced. We're actually talking about. Seattle's defense and he was like, you. know, you think about defenses that are. like scare or scary or scare offenses, you think like defenses talking [ __ ] to. the offense. He was like, no, the best. defenses are like the ones that are. talking [ __ ] to each other, energizing. Like you see like Devin Witherspoon make. a player I worry and then you see the. energy that they have with each other. and that's kind of like the the scary. part of it. But uh yeah I love this from. a quarterback and I'm sure the veteran. players on the other side of the ball. love it too.
>> AJ has he always been like this or like. Debbut said probably a little bit closer. to a vest whenever he was younger just. much more comfortable at this stage and. has seen it all. >> No I mean honestly I think he was pretty. comfortable early on like my first two. years in Green Bay he was the scout team. quarterback just carving us up all the. time. So we would definitely go back and. forth sometimes like you know he'd say. you guys he would talk to the. coordinator you guys you're not going to. play that right like third and medium. there's no chance you're actually going. to do that are you like well not not now. I guess because you've exploited us. Uh, but yeah, I think it's huge. Like I love. doing that, asking guys like when he was.
talking about them taking their drops. and saying like I can I can visualize. that. Like say you're playing whatever. cover two and you're the two hook. droppers and you just boom at the snap. you turn and you get to 10 to 12 yards. >> and you're spot up but all of a sudden. it's it's third and six and there's no. reason to get that deep right away and. he just it makes it easy on him. All. those little things are huge and we. actually in Green Bay later on in my. time there we would in the offseason we. would do like cross trainining. So we. would meet with say the running backs. and fullbacks and linebackers together. and their coach would come in the.
running back coach would and we would. watch practice or whatever we did and we. could talk to them like hey what do you. what do you guys hate what that when we. do a certain thing like what do you guys. dislike about us what do you dislike and. they would tell us a lot of times it. wasn't what we thought like we thought. certain things would make it hard on. them hey this is really tough on them. and they'd be like no we love when you. do that actually you guys are stupid for. doing it so I think you can gain a lot. from talking to guys that are like. usually their job is either block you up. or to figure out how to beat you in a. route. You can learn so much from that. and I think it was huge for me later on.
as I got older with I think you should. be having dialogue all the time all day. in practice throughout meetings all that. stuff. You can learn a lot. >> Yeah. Offense and defense normally two. different teams. >> like actually two different platoons. Hey, you go to this field, you go to. this field. We'll see you guys at team. meeting and special teams meeting going. to be guys from both sides. But coming. together seems to make sense. You would. hope that everybody would be doing that. And I love that Aaron at this stage has. literally seen it all, done it all. And. I think he really likes being a.
Pittsburgh Steeler. Oh yeah. I think. that's what I'm realizing every time he. speaks about it. >> Yeah. And I think we talked about it. yesterday, too. He looks like he's 35. Like I know this is his last year. I'm. not ruling that completely out yet just. cuz we've heard it's been his last year. before and he's come back again. But let. alone how big it is just for the guys. behind him. You know, it's so cool just. to share secrets. I mean, look at this. The guy literally looks like he's 28. running for a first down. But let alone, you know, Will Howard and uh Drew Aller. who's just sitting watching seeing how. he operates and not to go to the other.
news today. But I feel like that's why. the Quinton Nelson thing is so big. because think about what Quinton Nelson. is going to bring for, you know, Grace. Ael that O line, but then also for their. Dline. Like their Dline might get better. because Quinton Nelson has been around. for so long. You know, Byron Murphy's an. upcoming star and Leonard Williams has. been around for a while, don't get me. wrong, but Byron Murphy's kind of a. budding DTackle superstar. Like, what. what about the stuff in between the. trenches that he's going to be able to. share with Dumb that has screwed with. him over the years? Cuz like you.
mentioned, he has had success from day. one in the NFL. He was a top five pick. and ran away with it basically and he's. been a stud ever since. like the things. that he's going to be able to share with. Seattle. I I'm not so sure Seattle wins. every single game going forward now, especially with getting Zack Sharpet. back too. Like they're going to be. unbelievable. >> Yeah. Getting an actual running back. back is a big deal. They had three. running backs for him the other night. They outrush and out gain and it's a. huge part of the story. But everybody's. talking about losing Kenneth Walker, losing Kenneth. They also don't have. Charbanet who was the running back that.
they chose basically over Kenneth. >> Walker Price when they drafted. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Jabar Price out of Notre Dame. He. also injured or whatever. So, not having. a starting running back in that offense. whenever they had two. >> studs last year has certainly affected. the way they go. You get another. >> He's a monster. >> Monster. >> Quinton Nelson is a monster. >> He looks great in that Seattle uniform, too, by the way. I know it's not real. yet. It's, you know, you had to put that. together, man. He looks good. I And. especially just his style of play, too, will definitely help out there at. offensive line. You watch him after.
every play sprinting down, helping the. guys up, like all of it. Yeah, it's. going to be I am sure John Snder will. has watched from afar and been a huge. fan of Quinton Nelson. Now he gets him. on his team. >> Yeah, you you mentioned him running and. following the ball. He is normally first. person two ball carrier, wide receiver, running back, quarterback scampering, uh. other team gets a pick, whatever it is, he is always running and picking up and. helping like first person. I think he's. trying to beat the person to wherever.
they're headed. Very rare you see that. from an offensive guard who's normally. super miserable, hates running, you. know, like that. I think there's a. couple years where he might have been a. little bit banged up, so you didn't see. him chasing every single one down the. field. But if he's healthy, which we. think he is now, you'll normally see him. at the like the Seahawks fans are going. to [ __ ] love this. >> Oh my god, they're going to love him in. that building. Donald's going to love. him in it. >> I mean, the defending Super Bowl. champions are getting a potential first. ballot hall of famer, you know, for a. third of who's who's also it's not like. he's like 37, you know, like they could.
sign him to another four-year deal after. this. Who knows if they will, but like. this is just I mean what a what a. massive get for Seattle. >> And as much as it sucks not to pay. Kenneth Walker, like they can make this. trade because they didn't pay Kenneth. Walker when you think about it. You. know, Kenneth Walker was a fouryear $44. million deal. That's 11 a year. and. Quint Nelson caught nine. So, it's one. of those things we're like, "Hey, it. sucks we didn't get this guy back, but. now we're bringing in a Hall of Fame. guard.". >> All right. >> It's tough. It just sucks to be a Colts. fan.
>> I mean, we [ __ ] bone him with put. that dirty whoever put put the [ __ ]. jersey on him already. Gez, that'd be. >> Yeah, he was wait till tomorrow. >> That That was actually him. He He did. that after. >> Oh, yeah. I forgot [ __ ] Seahawks, man. >> Yeah. After the game on Sunday, Pat had. to mock that up because he wanted Quint. to go there so bad. >> You're saying I did that? >> Yeah. >> I didn't do that. I didn't do that. I don't I don't. >> We got him in the coach. >> You told Dodd to trade him to your team, man. >> We got some grim days, dude. We got some. grim grim days here. >> Big time. But this also, doesn't this.
kind of help you? Like, okay, let's. let's fully hit the eject button now. Like, we did it. You know that he has. been It's not going to be just one of. them. >> Yeah, exactly. Like, now there's no. questions about it anymore. Hit the. [ __ ] eject button, pull the rip cord, and let's trade everybody. >> We don't have to go to the games. anymore. And we have to go to the game. >> Talk about the Colts anymore. >> Why would you just do that? Why would. you go to the game? >> It's good time. It's really the only. good time I have. >> Yeah, we got the TVs on. We got all the. games. >> But now we can go for the other team.
Hey, who's coming to town? Who's coming. to town this weekend? >> So, who is our next home game? Is that. this week? Do we have. >> It's the Cowboys after. So, you got. Jaguars and then Cowboys. >> That'll be fun. >> Coming to town this weekend. >> Next weekend. >> You go to Jags and then Cowboys. >> You do like a sweet trade. Can you trade. for like the Sers? They got. >> They look good. >> Yeah. LeBron coming to town. >> Is that tomorrow night? >> That's tomorrow night. Yeah. >> I think we need to get down to that. game. Think we need to see Tyrese on his. back tour. >> What's that? >> Are the Pacers undefeated? >> Yeah, cuz in the box last night the.
Milwaukee Bucks Tyler Hero is hooping, man. >> Yeah. Remember. >> distractions? >> Yeah. No distra completely free. distraction. >> Literally, there was 500 people there. No distractions at all. And they lost. the Pacers lost their home opener, too, unfortunately. >> Really? >> How many games have we played? We. already lost two, >> I think. Four. >> So, so we're two and two. >> 500. >> You said undefeated. >> Not bad. 500 usually get you in the. playoff. >> I thought for sure. I've only seen good. highlights of Tyrese. I I thought for. sure we'd won every game.
>> To himself. Yeah. Sweet. >> He's been unbelievable. >> Twice. He throws off the backboard to. himself for a layup, then he bounces it. to himself. >> Oh, we're on the network, baby. >> Yeah. ESPN. That's tomorrow night. Shout. out Adam Silver. About time. >> It's kind of grim after that. >> What do you mean? >> What do you mean, J? >> Yeah. Why is there no uh there's no. >> flex? They're going to flex him. >> There it is. NBA TV. Yeah. M&MT. >> Prime. There we go. Nick says TJ Teenage. Mutant Ninja Turt. >> That's what I was about to say. Ninja. Oh no. We got a long stretch.
here. We're going to see. >> Oh no. Stop. Okay, here we go. >> That's cuz they don't decide which. >> WHAT THE [ __ ] IS going on here? >> Team you two. GAME SEVEN OF THE FINALS. HAD the lead. on sci-fi. >> No, I think they just didn't fill in the. the the one. >> call up. SC. >> cuz. week of. getting it. There's a lot of games. >> Really heats up in March there.
>> Yeah. Okay. Please. >> After tomorrow, they're on ESPN April. 2nd. So, >> okay. Right around the corner. >> It's October 28th. Get ready for Easter. >> Couple Prime Video, couple NBC's. >> It'll get flexed. >> No, >> they the boys will get flexed into prime. time. They'll earn it. >> Speaking of flexing, let's keep our eyes. out for flexes as we go ahead here in. the NFL season. There's some prime time. windows that people are already pointing. to and saying, "That's ass. Why are we.
doing that?" TV networks. for as long as I've had a brain and. known about this entire process have. been reluctant to utilize the flex. weapon because they don't want to. disrespect teams. They don't want to. disrespect fans. They don't want to pull. from owners that potentially only have. one prime time game. There's so much. that goes into it. So, I think they're. trying to be courteous to everybody. involved because a prime time game means. a lot for your brand, means a lot for. your team, means a lot for the future of. the league. introducing new characters.
into it and who the next superstars are. or other superstars, but. we would like that to no longer be a. negative thing. >> We would like flexing to be a. celebration of the teams that are. getting flexed into prime time. Congratulations, you have earned your. way into prime time. Just like Adam. Silver said about Tyrese Hallebert, hopefully they're able to win and earn. their way into prime time. I think the. flexing always talks about the teams. getting their asses kicked out of prime. time. We need it to be about the teams. that are getting promoted into prime.
time. Don't you think, AJ? We need a. different narrative on this thing for. the good of the entire league, the fans, and our prime time evenings that we're. just spending our entire lives with. these games. AJ, >> yeah, we need I guess we need to reframe. the conversation of what it means to be. flexed, but there's still always going. to be like, yeah, we could pump up the. teams that get flexed into prime time, but then there's always going to be. those two fan bases that got flexed out. that may be a bit a little bit louder. than the celebration. >> Yeah. So, what we're saying is we feel. bad for the teams that are getting. flexed out for sure, but if your team.
sucks, you don't want to be out there. You think Eagles fans are pumped about. that being on Monday Night Football last. night? I don't think so. But we don't. even want to talk about them. >> We don't There's already enough. negativity. We don't need to We need to. start utilizing flexing as a compliment. as opposed to a. >> uh downgrade detriment. >> Let's talk about this weekend, shall we? Sunday afternoon games. Uh we have uh. Yeah, too early. But let's say if it was. had the capability of being flexed. This.
is this weekend now. Also, I don't think. you should be two weeks out. Week seven. only going forward with all the rules. they do of flexing. Listen, I know. people get plane tickets. Okay, let's. refund them. We need Delta, American, Southwest, everybody get on board, they. do. >> with the NFL flexing scheduling and if. fans are getting tickets, they need to. be refunded entirely and if they can't. make it to the day game, we need them to. get their money back. Is that possible. with Segeek? I assume it would be. I. don't know about everywhere else. So, let's live in a fairy tale land where. the fans won't get absolutely [ __ ]. >> Yeah.
>> Okay. Even though that is a big part of. the reason why you can't do it. >> Look at the games we have this weekend. >> Nice. >> Every one of them could get flagged. >> Exactly. And if you look at it, 1:00, we. got Browns Steelers. Both of them five-. Browns ahead of the AFC North for the. first time. A rivalry as old a time. Who's on the call? Kevin Harland and. Trent Green. Okay. So, that's not the. one crew. So we know that's not the one. crew crew either. >> Yeah, they have a good time too. I got a. chance to watch them. They have like a. little bit of a podcast feel. They get. Jean Ster in there. They start having a.
good time. I like the banter. I. appreciate the vibe in which they set. for a game. But CBS not necessarily. saying, "Hey, this is 100% our game." So. could you imagine if the Cleveland. Browns pitchers were playing Sunday. night football right now? What the. excitement level would be? >> Once again, impossible. Can't happen. because I haven't been able to flex. because we're too too close to the game. and everything like that. But we're just. saying if this decision was made a. couple weeks ago and it was able to. happen, we could have bronze steel, huge. fan base, obviously with the Pittsburgh. Steelers, huge implications early and a. massive storyline that could be. celebrated all damn week heading into.
Sunday football. We would like these. things to be considered. Flexing would. be a compliment to the Browns and the. Steelers as opposed to saying to the. Eagles and Commanders, >> we don't want to [ __ ] have our eyes. on you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Which we certainly don't. But we. need to talk about Browns Steelers. earning that in the Sunday night. football and having the capability to. showcase for the entire NFL on Sunday. night. >> And if you're a fan of the Eagles and. the Commanders, you know, if you get. flexed out of prime time, what's that. do? That puts pressure on ownership in. front office like, "Hey, we're not even. good enough to be in prime time." So,
not only as a fan do you not want to. watch them in prime time so that. everyone can see how poopy your team is, it also kind of gives you, hey, see, we. need to make changes. We need to go make. our team better because they're already. flexing us out of prime time. That's. awful. Steelers and Browns also they. performed on prime time already this. year and it was an unbelievable game. 2724. Like they should have earned. another prime time spot. >> Lamar Jackson may be back with Josh. Allen. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That's 1:00 with Iron Eagle and Ross. Tucker. That's not the number one. >> No, that's Flex City.
>> NO. >> WHAT? NO. >> YEAH, THAT'S THE NUMBER TWO. EXACTLY. IT'S THE NUMBER TWO TEAM. Could be Flex. We're all bummed out that that was not. Fle once again. Compliment. They got ear. they earned their way into Sunday Night. Football as opposed to Eagles. Commanders. And then how about Kevin. Birkhard and Tom Brady? They're on. Vikings lines. That one's not gonna. move. One o'clock. We got a one:00 Tom. Brady. And then uh Jim Nance and JJ are. on the Chiefs and the Broncos. That. one's not going to move. Okay. So CBS. and Fox have already made their decision. on what their games are. They've already.
put into place what it is. I assume they. do that a couple weeks out and and ahead. of time on what it's going to be. So, we. have multiple games that are available. that are sitting at 1:00 in massive. windows that could get flexed into. meaningful time, but I think we've. always had such a negative connotation. on it that networks get scared of it. We. would like to view it as a celebration. of the teams that get flex in their tie. >> Yeah. And I think they should also just. have a clause where it's like, hey, if. you don't have a starting quarterback. playing, like we'll flex you out because. it's not a true indication of what your. team is. You know, >> personally, we just watch it. I don't.
want to [ __ ] watch Tanner McKe again. on Sunday Night Football. I just don't. want to do it. He wasn't terrible, but I. just like that game stinks. Okay, we got. Lamar Jackson's not going to be playing. >> Exactly. So, it's like if your team is. super banged up, we'll we'll flex you out. Okay. Because. we don't need the entire nation coming. to that conclusion the following day. when that that's not your football team. >> Yeah. It's kind of catfishing. >> Exactly. >> Yeah. We don't want to catfish people. into thinking this is what your brand is. for the good of you, for the good of the. league. >> Congratulations to these two other teams. that are certainly worthy of a showcase.
>> Exactly. That's the way we need it to be. talked about. >> I think so. >> And how did Bill's Ravens, just to begin. with, by the way, before the season in. July, how's Bills Ravens decided, hey, this isn't going to be a prime time. game? Remember last year? Last year, was. it was it not 41 to 30 or whatever, and. the Bills had a massive 17-point. comeback in the fourth quarter. Like, even the schedule m Now I'm just getting. pissed at the schedule makers, let alone. the flexing. How the [ __ ] do we put that.
game at that time slot when we know what. that game's going to be before the. season starts? >> Maybe because they gave the the Bills. the following Monday Night Football, but. no, that wouldn't because that's exactly. what the Eagles are in. So, >> yeah. >> Yeah, I don't know. >> The Falcons had three straight weeks of. prime time football. >> Hold on. So, Florio had a conspiracy on. this, right? I didn't read into it, but. I did see it was gaining some traction. What did Florio say? basically um teams. having like three weeks in a row prime. time games is kind of setting up in the. future uh for midweek games because. teams can now will be because you can.
only play so many games um within. certain amount of days. So this is sets. up for like you could play a Thursday. game and then a Wednesday game and then. a Thursday game because that would be. spaced out not four days apart they. would be six or seven days apart. So. yeah, Florio was spot on kind of with. the situation. It it was all based on. rest. >> He was saying that was why people are. doing three prime time games this year. >> Yeah. to get ready for the NFL to. potentially have games on Tuesday nights. and like Wednesday nights as well. >> I don't think I understand. I would have. to read his. >> They're conditioning us to a run of.
prime time games with the single team. So, we did it with the Falcons, I. believe, the Bears, and now the Eagles. where they're getting three straight. prime time games with one team. So, we're used to it for when they, you. know, roll on these Tuesday and. Wednesday. >> because it has to be the same team. >> This is the conspiracy. >> because you can't play on a Sunday and. then a Wednesday. This would be like, "Oh, you played on a Thursday, then you. could play on a Wednesday, and then you. could play on a whatever weekday next. week again.". >> Okay, so we're getting desensitized. right now by the schedule makers for a. future schedule.
>> [ __ ] NFL SCOFF, MAN. >> DUDE, Florio knows. >> playing chess, man. >> Hey, I if anybody's going to figure that. out, >> it would be Mike Florio. >> So, I appreciate him thinking like that. cuz I can never do it. I understand. percentages and stuff, but I I don't. think I could piece that one together. >> But I guess he's right, man. >> Pretty well. demo for that. I'm already. programmed. I don't I'm watching. >> Yeah. >> That no matter who it is, I'm watching. >> Tuesday night, NFL football. >> Put me in. >> Yeah. >> Now, on that note, we got the World.
Series tonight. We will enjoy the hell. out of that. >> Great sports this evening. NHL and NBA. >> We got everything happening tonight. And. on Thursday, which is two days from now, >> right? >> We got a banger. >> Yep. >> Rebecca Lobo's happy. It's a couple. days, >> I would assume. what you were talking. about, Carter. >> I was thinking Panthers, Packers. But. this was the second thing I was thinking. about on Thursday. >> There's two big finals, right? >> That's why I say this win other. >> I'll tell you what, the Valkyries are a.
problem. And if Angel doesn't get back. to what she was doing at the beginning. of this series, they're going to be in. trouble, too. She is I mean, she gets. traded to Atlanta, they make it to the. finals. There needs to be a lot more. respect. And there's a bunch of people. pulling clips of me talking about Angel. Ree and what she had done for the WNBA. versus what Caitlyn Clark had done for. the WNBA a couple years ago. Everything. I said in that video is 100% true. Okay. So, I I would just like to let that be. known. Yes, you what you were I concur that. Caitlyn Clark was the reason why the. WNBA at that time had a massive spike in.
interest from people that had never. watched the WNBA before and took it to. places that it had never been. Now, do I. think the rest of the stars of the WNBA. have helped maintain that and maybe. Angel Reese has come into her own as a. leader of this dream team and led her. team to the finals? Yes, all those. things can be true at the same time. Now, people are not going to believe this. But. when I heard this game was at 12:30. during our show,
>> first natural thought is we should simoc. cast this thing. Okay. >> Sure. Mhm. It's an NBC thing. >> It's uh it's on USA E and Sci-Fi. >> Sci-Fi. >> just because I thought, you know, like. it's during our time we do. I don't. think we're going to be able to do an. alt cast for it all. And everybody also. told me that would been a terrible idea. That would have probably not been smart. We don't know nearly enough about either. of these teams or the WNBA to put. ourselves in there. But just know my. natural reaction was like if we can.
drive a little bit, this is a finals. This is a championship. there's a chance. a team that's brand new into. professional sports is about to win a. title at 12:30 in the afternoon with. game starting. So, I would like to let. everybody know that my first thought was. how can we talk about this especially if. we're going to be on at the same exact. time and then everybody told me bad idea. for us to do that. I appreciate that. I. took it into consideration and it's also. not on our network so we have no chance. to be able to do it anyways. But we will. keep everybody updated on Thursday with.
what's going on this week. >> I hope we get a banger pivot to a watch. along. dreams. The dream they're favored. by four and a half points. Kia Stokes. kind of changed this year. You talk. about Angel Reese uh struggling. Kia. Stokes with the Valkyries has been a. defensive [ __ ] mastermind. She's set. a finals record for blocks already had. three blocks last game. She's been. dominant out there. You got Gabby. Williams up there. Yukon legend number. one. You got Burton. You got Angel. Reese. Tip Hayes is also back. I'm I'm. excited about this game six. Now the. celebration, the postgame celebration.
that's going to be interesting. Right. >> 20 minutes to celebrate this thing. >> It's not a local Chuck-e-Cheese, I. think. >> No, that's not what they said. >> Well, at least it's not the home. Like, when this was announced, it was it was. like, oh, Atlantic. This could be. Atlanta home celebration. That's not an. option anymore. So, >> they could probably use the auxiliary. gym for. >> That's what they said. The practice. They said, "We don't have enough time at. night." It's like 20 minutes with an. extra 20 minutes after a fun. >> Chuck Cheese. >> Got to go. >> What? >> You got to go. That's literally what. they said. >> They say that. >> Free ski ball for everyone. It's not.
Chuck-e-Cheese. It's David Busters. DNBs. That makes more sense. >> Either of those. They said the practice. gym. They didn't say either of those. things. They said they could go David. Busters has cool [ __ ]. >> Yeah, it does. >> Yeah. >> Chuck-E-Cheese. Sweet [ __ ]. >> Yeah. >> The practice gym. We got a clock on the. wall. It's basically I just I don't. understand how you can't get 20 minutes. to celebrate this thing. You just want a. [ __ ] world title. I I don't Once. again, everybody's told me multiple. times, don't talk about it. You don't. know enough about it. This is a bad. idea. But I would like it to be known a.
[ __ ] title is about to be won in. professional sports and the way it's. being talked about. I don't like the way. it's being talked about. This is a big. deal. People have worked their asses off. to get to this point. This is a league. that's getting paid billions of dollars. >> I mean, how does how does Engles not. have this figured out? >> It's not her name. >> I should have got ahead of this for. sure. >> I don't know. It's been. >> No wonder why she's done. >> She's having her foot surgically removed. from her mouth right now for the 400th. time this season. I think that's why. Well, that's the issue because uh you. would think communication would be a way.
to figure this out ahead of time. So, that's kind of the the whole thing and I. think that's the reaction you see from a. lot of people even within the WNBA. conversation. It's like. >> this is embarrassing. This is not how. this should go for a professional. >> No. >> And uh we would like to let everybody. know we will certainly highlight it on. Thursday as it's live during our show. even though we can't go do an allcast. and everybody has said probably. shouldn't be doing an allcast. That's. right. I don't know enough names. I. don't know enough about the storylines, but I just wanted to celebrate a world.
title being won. Also, I met Britney. Grinder last week. >> Yeah, I was there. >> She was incredibly kind. It was great to. chat with her. She was out in Los. Angeles. I think we could potentially. send a request for her to be on this. program and I think she would come on. >> That uh hotel we were at was like a W. hot spot. Wasn't Paige Buckets there as. well? I think I saw another WNBA player. What the hell was going on? >> Beautiful place. >> Good question. >> True. >> Beautiful hotel. I saw somebody else out. there, too. >> Who's that? >> Tell you off here. >> You might be interested. >> What do you mean? Why.
>> you want to know who Gumpy saw in the. hotel? >> That's an NFL guy. Uh, actually, you'll. be interested as well. AJ, >> I'm pretty interested. I think we're all. kind of interested now. >> What's it rhyme with? >> Spill the beans. >> Go ahead. I. >> already told you. >> Who? Tell you off. I don't I don't know if. it's been reported that he was in that. city AT THAT TIME. >> OH. >> OH, YOU JUST GAVE it away. I'm not I'm. not an insider. I don't want to dip. I'm. like I could dip into the world today. You don't WANT TO BE A DAILY INSIDER.
NO, just the big stories. Yeah, I. understand. Okay, I do remember that. >> Glazer was there. >> No, he's being Jay Glazer right now. deciding not to do that. >> That would owns that place. >> Jay Glazer might have been there. Um. Gumpy saw a guy in the gym uh in. Philadelphia 7 a.m. that we could have. never guessed to be in the same hotel. that we're in. >> Who' you see in there, Gumps? Uh, former. Prime Minister Boris Johnson. >> Really? >> He was getting after it. He was hairs. disheveled to talk to him. >> I was dying. I mean, you got to get eyes. on this guy. He was had a speaking.
engagement uh last night in. Philadelphia. So, he was getting after. him. >> Gumpy got no photo, no video, no. nothing. I caught up with Gumpy. afterwards and uh he goes, "You're never. going to believe who I saw this movie.". And I go, "Who?" And he goes, "Boris. Johnson." And I'm like, "Stop." I'm like. the [ __ ] foreign political guy. He. goes, "Oh yeah.". >> Wow. >> He was doing this. I guess he said he. was doing one of these and then he was. doing. >> this back and forth down in there just. absolutely. >> I think him and Gumpy were the only.
people that were in that gym. Just Gumpy. and Boris Johnson. And uh that was quite. a way to start a day in Philadelphia. I. mean it was. >> I walked in and saw him. I was like. there's no way that's Boris Johnson. And. then I left after work and I was like I. should Google Boris Johnson. Philadelphia. And then they came. scooting right out of the hotel door. >> Boris, >> you Boris. >> It's been pretty crazy. It's been pretty. crazy, I will say. And then Thursday. night, huge one. >> Huge. >> to kick off week eight of the NFL. season. So, we got a great week of uh. sports here. Panthers Packers will be.
showcased. And you know, not too long. ago, the Panthers and the Packers played. each other. And something was born. Something was born out of that. Rico Dao. went crazy and the Panthers beat the. Packers. and Tai Schmidt comes on this. show and says a lot of people are going. to be saying that all all hell is about. to to break loose here in Green Bay. Carolina Panthers, that's a good. football team. That is where it was born. of us saying people need to give them a. little bit more respect. They would go. on to host a playoff game inevitably at. the end of last season. Now trying to.
continue to build on that. Bryce Young, stud Carolina Panthers we have a lot of. faith in. And then the Green Bay. Packers, who are you? How are you? Can. you make a kick? Can you not? And can. you get a stop? I think there's a lot of. question marks for both of these teams. Thursday night has a lot of big. implications. Ty Schmidt. >> Yeah, it does. Kind of weird because I. don't love the fact that the Panthers. just got absolutely [ __ ] embarrassed. by the Bucks, but the Packers, I think, are are going to be, you know, they they. got something to prove. But yeah, I. mean, ultimately, you know, is the. kicker going to be able to make kicks?
That's kind of the only thing that my. mind goes to. So, I'm a little nervous. for it. Uh, you know, I'll be honest. But, uh, should be a good game. >> Universe B. >> Oh, boy. form. >> for the kicker. >> If I make this, Trey smack is never. going to miss another kick. >> I disavow. This doesn't count. >> I mean, it's same percentages probably. Your throws and his kicks. >> How's that work? >> Guys missed seven already. That's crazy, dog. >> Yeah. Well, everybody wants to just Hey, just be patient with the guy. Just be. patient. Just let him keep going out. there. You know, he's a rookie kicker. He's made a 60 plus yard field goal this.
year. We need to send him to a sports. psychologist. I said, "This ain't. [ __ ] high school football, okay? Your. guy can't make his [ __ ] kicks. If he. if he misses one on Thursday night, you. [ __ ] cut his ass and you and bring. that fat son of a pitch from LA. >> Harrison Meas. >> Yes, >> Riley Patterson is out there. We. released him. I don't know why we. released him. He's actually. >> trying to win football games here. Trying to win a division. >> He reeks of Green Bay. >> Trying to win and get into the playoffs. >> Cheese curd meas. >> Can I tell you why he would be good for.
Green Bay? >> Cuz he's fat so he won't get cold. >> No, he's thick. Um, >> but yes, I would say a little bit more. >> insulated. >> Yes. He also when he's kicking good, which we assume after getting fired, he. goes and figures it out somehow. Tinkers. with some things. We hope. Okay. Unless. he just completely just kind of put. everything aside. How you do anything is. how you do everything. And it has not. worked. But I'm going to assume he has. worked. When he hits a ball, it's pure. So in Green Bay, super windy. I think.
you need a pure ball striker in Green. Bay because if there's any So when it's. end over end, okay, clean, pure, normally cut through. If there's any X. to it, just a little bit offkilter, a. lot more space for the ball, for the. wind to kind of [ __ ] it up. So he's a. pure ball striker. Whenever he's kicking. good, that thing's going perfectly end. over end. I think that's what you need. in a super windy place. >> I don't I don't know what they need. They just need a guy who's going to make. his [ __ ] kicks. Particularly inside. 35 yards.
>> I think we've been pretty good at. predicting who's going to kick where. So, I think you bringing up Meas to. Green Bay. I think that's not a bad. prediction. I I think he could be good. for you guys. >> Now, I hope Trey Mack goes out there and. doesn't miss another one all year, but. we're going to find out. We're in week. seven. He's missed seven already. >> Josh Dealer, the AP. Trey Mack is the. first kicker to miss two field goals. from 35 yards or less in the same game. since Mike Nent center. >> did it for the Patriot in 2713 win vers. Browns. Um he is first to do it in a. game. His team lost by three points or. fewer since Sean Sum did it for the.
Steelers. >> Wow. 218 loss to the Raiders. So not. normal. Mike Nent one of the greatest. kickers of all time. Suge did great for. the Pittsburgh Steelers. I think he also. created a tea. Guys going to have bad. days. Hopefully Smack's able to move on. Find out right now. >> All right. Boom. >> Good luck to you and your team. I thank. you. >> And to you, AJ. AJ, it feels like you. kind of want this one to fall as well. >> Yeah, I think this is going in. >> All right. >> Good luck, boys. >> Oh. Oh. >> Oh, great line. >> Wait a minute. This is four. We get. multiple attempts, right? Seven.
>> Yeah, you get seven of them. >> At least. Yeah, at least. >> Seven attempts. >> You're not going to need them all. >> Ty, how has the universe ball been. doing? Do we know? >> No, not not good at all. >> Hasn't really been falling. >> No, it hasn't. >> But we've had a lot of injuries. >> Mhm. True. >> Yeah. >> So, it's almost been telling the truth.
