[music] our humble abode the draft kings. thunderdown on this big NBA Tuesday June. 23rd 2026 [music] this sports program. begins now. >> are the greatest of all time and. obviously tonight is the NBA draft as. the next generation of superstars or at. least hopeful superstars get selected to. their teams congratulations to. Washington getting a chance He's changed. it all. That Utah Jazz, obviously we are.

very familiar with everything they have. going on in Utah. They've gone through. some hard times. They've gotten to a. spot where they think they're not going. to have to suck going forward in number. two overall pick. Maybe out of Kansas. I. mean, who obviously has some question. marks because uh you know, he did just. kind of pull himself out of some games. when he was at Kansas. Now, was he just. preparing his body to become a pro? Was. he not ready? Was he or something else. going on? Who knows? A lot of questions. obviously being asked and as a outsider.

looking in I think it's kind of abnormal. but this is modern sports world and. allegedly he has the talent that you. can't pass up but who knows what the. Jazz do after number one Danza I guess. out of BYU which obviously Utah Jazz. number two overall. >> Mhm. >> So like. >> if he was to end up in Utah that would. be like a dream I think for all parties. over there but probably not going to get. past number one overall pick. We'll. certainly have to chat about what's. going on tonight as the next draft. happens. But we'll have Richard. Jefferson joining us in about 10 to 15.

minutes or so. He'll be on the coverage. this evening. And he's fresh out of the. 10year anniversary celebration of the. Cavaliers team that won the title. They. were on like a four, five, six, seven, eight day trip. >> Yep. Looked good. >> Looked like a great time. Everybody was. there. It was nice trip back in time for. those of us that watched it in real. time. Kevin Love was doing his thing. over there in Cleveland. Obviously, Iman. Shumpert was on the team. Jr. was on the. team. the damn team. It was a whole reliving. of the good old days as uh it looked. like the Cavaliers are having a time of. their lives. And you have to wonder, LeBron James think about retirement, a. lot of golfing, doing anniversary trips, having a time of his life, looking like. he's having a lot of fun. >> Gray beard, >> nothing wrong with that. Obviously, he's. in negotiations allegedly with the. Lakers right now to come back and play. for another year, but uh we'll ask. Richard Jefferson about all this, what. he learned during the trip and what his. thoughts are about LeBron James maybe.

playing with another draft class. Okay, that's that that's how we could kind of. tie tonight in with uh everything else. that's happening in Richard Jefferson's. life. And then obviously we'll have to. talk about Yiannis. >> Anthonyo. is now a member of the Miami Heat. >> Wow. >> Holy hell. Pat Riley did it. The Miami. Heat make another massive, massive move. to bring another title back down to. South Florida. Now, whenever you think. about the Giannis story and getting. traded out of Milwaukee, he had been.

there for a decade plus. He'd won an NBA. title there, but over the last year or. so, you know, since about May 2025, I. would say, the world had been wondering. if Giannis and the Bucks were going to. be a forever type thing. Is Giannis. maybe running out of patience with the. Bucks building a championship contender? Is Giannis maybe thinking about greener. pasture somewhere else as his career. continues to wind on? Well, Sham. Shirania was certainly fueling the. flames. He said, "Yeah." He's starting. to wonder if this place can win another. title.

>> Then Giannis won after Shawn said, "Don't we all kind of miss Woge? Don't. we all this this Sham Shirani guy? Don't. we all kind of miss the woge bombs with. what this guy's talking about? Then. Shams had had to come out yet again and. say, "I stand by my reporting." From my. understanding, I'm hearing that this is. potentially going to be coming to an. end. There's a lot of questions. There's. a lot of, you know, patience that's. maybe wearing a little bit thin on. Yiannis's side. And then there was. obviously a lot of public dispute and.

public chatter about whether or not this. was real or not real. And does Sham. Shirania potentially have Greek freak. fever? Ooh. >> Well, that even led into the All-Star. game for the celebrity game. Shaman. Shirani ended up on Giannis's team. >> Wow. >> And then they had a stare down in real. time. >> Stop talking about my business, maybe is. what Giannis said. There was a lot of. disputing. There was a lot of battling, but inevitably last night Sham Shirania. got a tweet off that said, "Yep, he's. gone and he's going to Miami." Over the. last couple days, it had become clear.

seemingly to all insiders that it was. the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat. who were the final two destinations for. Giannis to potentially go to. Inevitably, they pick the Miami Heat. Now, why' they do that? How'd we get to. that point? Joining us now is a man. who's been on the Greek freak beat. for a long time. >> Oh, yeah. >> Ladies and gentlemen, senior NBA insider. for ESPN, Sham Shiran. >> HEY, [screaming] SHS. CONGRATULATIONS, SEAN. SEAN SEAN, [cheering] they're.

trying to get you. They're trying to. kill you. Pat Rally one time with Jimmy. Butler. >> They're coming out trying to kill you. Just guy that used to work on uh Stadium. Network online, okay? Is grinding his. way through this entire thing. Gets into. a bigger chair, you know, gets a bigger. platform, gets a bigger opportunity. Everybody's telling him no, no, no. Now. the yianis anti kmpo ch uh trade which. has been the most recent kind of shams. doesn't know [ __ ] type conversation. that's been taking place finally. happens. Can you tell me how we got here. and how it became Miami and Boston and. inevitably why' Miami win out in the.

end? >> This is like you said Pat this has this. hasn't started three years ago, five. years ago, four years ago, two years. ago. This started in May 2025. This is. when the Bucks lost their third. consecutive first round uh matchup. Uh. this is a team that won the NBA finals. in 2021. They lost in the in the. semifinals in game seven in 2022. Then. three straight first round defeats. Damen Lillard Teres is Achilles. This is.

a team that has already in Milwaukee. gone to depths with Giannis. They've. already gone to the cliff. They've. depleted their assets, depleted. everything in order to try to keep. Giannis there, keep him happy. And that. was a point where Giannis felt like it. was time to move on. And I'm just going. to put it very plainly. In May 2025, Giannis and his agent, Alex Saratzas, were very, very direct with the Bucks. that they felt the time had come to move. on, that they felt the size needed to. part ways. And to put it plainly, that.

he wanted a trade out of Milwaukee. Not. because he dislikes the city, not. because he doesn't like being there, but. the simple fact of the matter that he. feels that team could no longer compete. for a championship. And so there are a. lot of twists, there are a lot of turns, there's a lot of of in I think. indecision on different ends of of the. spectrum. And a lot of it starting with. the Milwaukee Bucks because at the end. of the day, this is a team that Giannis. is the best player in franchise history. He is an icon potentially. He's an icon. there. He's one of the best players in.

the world. You want to hold on to those. guys as long as you possibly can. But. when you have a star player that's one. foot in, one foot out, we saw the season. that they had. It was full of. dysfunction, despair. They end up going. 32 and 50. This is a team that's been. one of the most successful teams over. the last decade with Giannis and they. have fallen out of of of really any type. of contention. And so now you take a. step back. Jimmy Hasslam comes out. He's. a co-owner. He also owns the Cleveland. Browns who just traded Miles Garrett a. few weeks ago. He came out and said, "We. are trading Giannis by the draft or.

we're going to get a long-term contract. extension from Giannis." This is after. all the es and flows. Nothing had. changed with Giannis' perspective. He. wanted out and he was not going to sign. longterm. So that means the Bucks had to. move on. They opened for business at the. NBA draft combine. I remember we were on. I was actually on this show and we. talked about it that this wasn't Giannis. that was pushing the needle this time. The Bucks were open for business. They're open for calls. They were. welcoming calls, welcoming offers. And.

it there there were a few different. offers that came about. You had teams. like BOS, obviously Boston and Miami. were the finalists, but there were other. teams. Minnesota, Portland, uh Golden State, Cleveland had interest, the Lakers had interest. A few other. teams had interest, but at the end of. the day, Giannis had one year left on. his contract. That meant he had all the. power, all the leverage in the Second. Apron collective bargaining era to be. able to dictate where he wanted to go. And at the end of it, there were two. teams that he was willing to sign a.

long-term contract extension with. That's the Boston Celtics and the Miami. Heat. And back at the NBA trade. deadline, the Heat were the last team. standing with Giannis and the Milwaukee. Bucks. They had the package of players, young talent picks that the Bucks wanted. to move forward with. And so there were. two totally different offers with the. with the Celtics. It was Jaylen Brown. and two first round picks. With Miami, it was what we saw. Tyler Herro, Khil. Wear, Jame Hakez, as well as um uh. Casper Yakonis. three unprotected first.

round picks, one pick swap, and one. second round pick. That is a group of. costcont controlled rookie scale. contracts, significant draft capital. And that's an admission from the Bucks. that we are now going to take a step. back. We're going to evaluate this team. We are not in this win now contention. state because you're not in win now. contention state with Giannis. Jaylen. Brown is one of the best players in the. world, but the Celtics were willing to. offer multiple first arm picks with him. to go get Giannis. So they had made the.

calculation that we would rather have. Giannis than Jaylen Brown. The Bucks. felt the same way. So if you're going to. try to compete and contend, you want to. do it with Giannis. Otherwise, you take. a step back, collect the the the. different cost control players and move. forward and and move on. And then. obviously Miami now Pat Riley, he gets. his big fish, his white whale uh to pair. with Bam Adabio. And this is a history. Pat Riley has a history of doing deals. where he goes out and gets the best.

players in the world. LeBron James went. there, Chris Bosch went there, Alonzo. Morning went there, Shaq went there. Um, Jimmy, now Giannis. >> Okay, so huge move obviously for Miami. to pull this off. Tyler Ero, I think. biggest name that we see there, but I. heard Casperis big silent Jay up there a. big part of the entire play. You said at. the trade deadline they might have had a. lot of packages already close to what it. could have been good for for Giannis. So. maybe the deal was ahead of schedule. Felt like everybody was leaning towards.

uh the Bucks regrouping, reloading, but. with the new rules, like they can't be. two ass, right? Yeah. Cuz if they're two. ass, then they fall into that lowest. percentage chance of getting better. So. how do they kind of balance that? And on. that note, Go ahead. >> Yeah. No, my bad. Sorry. I mean I mean. on that note, like that's why you go out. and get this type of a package where you. can still remain competitive. Now they. they wanted Tyler Hiro and Hakez where. Yaka Shonus and then you get draft.

capital. This team can keep you. competitive. I don't know how. competitive. That remains to be seen. Um. but they didn't do this deal to try to. spin players off. Now this deal is going. to be open-ended until July 6. So. technically if a team blows them away. for a Tyler Hero or a Hawkins or a wear, you have to look at it. They're not in a. place as an organization where if a team. uh offers you an insane package that you. you you turn a blind eye to. They. they're wide open in a lot of ways. But. this package at least allows you to stay.

competitive uh have cost controlled. players. Jaylen Brown is on a supermax. contract for the next three seasons. fully guaranteed. He was due a contract. extension this off season. If you're not. trying to pay uh the super max and be in. the luxury tax and try to give yourself. that win now competitive motivation, uh. that Miami deal is the deal for you. because it at least allows you to have. flexibility uh moving forward. >> Yeah, I completely understand the. business decision there and has them. wanting to allegedly not want to have to.

pay again if Jaylen Brown opts out and. then have to deal with this again after. having to deal with it with Miles, he. says, and then obviously Deshawn Watson. stuff. So, Hamm's been a part of a lot. of big-time contracts with a lot of. big-time names. Okay, so let's move off. the Bucks and Hero might be gone and. they might be shopped from there as. well. We'll keep an eye out until July. or whatever you said. Let's go to Miami. Can they win right now? I guess that's a. big time question. Tone has a question. for you. >> Yeah, Sean, a lot of people were saying. yes, they got their guy in Giannis, but. when you look at the starting five and. they people are saying that is not a. championship lineup. Um, do you think.

the Heat are done? Do you think Pat. Riley is done or do you think this is. just the start of more moves that are. going to come this off seasonason for. the Miami Heat? >> Yeah, shout out to our ESPN social. group. They do an unbelievable job, but. um we can probably take Norman Powell. off of this starting five. The Heat are. expecting him not to be there um you. know this off season. There's going to. be interest in him, >> other suitors in him as well. Just. financially it's going to be very. difficult for them to keep him. Um.

they're going to have exceptions to use. They could participate in a signing. trade with Norm Powell this off. seasonason, but the the Heat are. operating as if he's going to either end. up in a sign and trade or end up. elsewhere. And so from there, you have a. starting shooting guard slot to fill. You've got exceptions to do it. You've. got other avenues. Andrew Wiggins will. be an interesting case. He's got a. player option, I think around $30. million. Does he opt into that? Does he. opt out? Do you do a lesser deal but. more years? That's on the table for. them. But they know they have to fill. this roster out. My understanding. talking to people in Miami, shooting,

shooting, and more shooting. That is. their prerogative. They're going to go. find floor spacers for Giannis and Bam. Uh, moving forward next season. It might. not be a finished product on opening. night for them, but you think about the. great duos in the Eastern Conference. Um, Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown or. Jason Tatum or whoever ends up with him. Uh, you think about Jaylen Brunson and. Carl Anthony Towns. You have to put. Giannis and Dumbo and Bam Adabio up. there as the as among the great duos in. the East and potentially in the NBA.

That's how good that team can be. But. they've got work to do. They know it. That's why for both Miami and Milwaukee. is important getting this deal done. You. have all day today if you're Milwaukee. to prepare for the draft. You have. number 10 and number 13 tonight. And. Miami, they've got a ton of moves now to. make uh in free agency. >> We trust that Pat Riley will get it. done. You also left off Tyrese Hallebert. and the spicy pee in the Okay, so he's. got to have a little. >> They're on the list. They're on the. list. I'm sorry, they are on the list. Uh Sean's Pat alluded to it there. Jaylen Brown, what's the deal now? You. even said right there, Jason Tatum and. Jaylen Brown or whoever is with Jason. Tatum. Where do the Celtics go from. here? Is Jaylen Brown going to be. willing to play for the Celtics or is. this a situation where, hey, cats out of.

the bag now? We got to move this guy. Uh. what is the situation? And Brian. Winhorse also mentioned the bidding war. for Jaylen Brown starts now. Is this. something we should expect to happen in. the, you know, coming week, even coming. days? >> BC, this is something the whole league. is going to be paying clo attention to. because for the second time in four. years, the Celtics offer Jaylen Brown. In 2022, they offered him for Kevin. Durant. Now, four years later, they. offer him after he's won finals MVP,

after he's one of the finalists for the. league MVP. They offer him B for. Giannis. And I I I know there are going. to be hard conversations ahead for both. Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics. Like, there's going to be fallout from. this. There already is. Like, since last. night, um my understanding is the. Celtics are listening to interested. teams and offers for Jaylen Brown. So, they're not I I wouldn't say they're. actively shopping him right now, but the. Celtics are listening to offers. There.

are multiple interested teams that have. started to at least reach out and engage. and and have a level of dialogue with. the Celtics. And so, that that doesn't. mean it's going to result in a trade. definitively, BC, because Jaylen Brown's. got three years left on his deal um at. the super max dollar amount. He's. extension eligible in July. like we'll. see where this goes. But the fact that. they're at least listening, that lets. you know that there is a decision to. make one way or the other this offseason.

What. was it like living the good old days and. getting after it with the lads from. 2016? >> I'll tell you what it felt like. It felt. like we were on a road trip again. That's what it That's what it felt like. And if you haven't been on a road trip. with, you know, 10, 12 of your brothers, uh, going to dinners, talking about. games, talking about life, catching up, uh, that was a fun part. It was a lot of. church retreats. Um, we did a couple we.

did a couple of Bible studies. >> Uh, you know, just really, you know, we. we donated food. There was just a lot of. different things. Like, obviously, it. didn't make the edits, but there were a. lot of things uh that we did for the. people. Uh, those were just some of the. lighter moments, but those were the the. smaller moments that we had. Yeah, it. was really nice. You guys went and dug. some wells, I think, too, right? Took a. trip down there to get water for some. people. >> Yeah, we we were doing we were doing we. we built uh some homes, schools, you. know. Yeah. Help pay for some schools.

probably. >> I didn't see any of that, man. That's. really cool you guys did that. That's. really, >> you know, they only they only they they. never show the real stuff. >> But it was YOU GUYS SHOWING US the. stuff, though. It wasn't like they it. was like you deciding what we were. seeing. So, like you weren't showing it. >> Humble. Humble. Humble. Super humble. [laughter]. we didn't really want to, you know, really show too many people what was. going on. There's a level of privacy. that we like to maintain when we're. having fun, as you guys know. Uh so that. that that's really what we were focused.

on. >> Okay. Well, I'm happy you guys got. together. Obviously, sports are the. greatest, teams are the greatest. Locker. rooms are the greatest. Championships. are obviously what everybody's hunting. So, the fact that you'll be able to. celebrate those forever is a beautiful. thing. Let's talk about championships. being the reason why the Greek freak was. seemingly not happy in Milwaukee for a. while now and then finally gets traded. last night to Miami. Shams just came on. and told us that basically the anatomy. of this deal came down to Pat Riley. offering up smaller contracts, more. controllable contracts and more assets.

And the Bucks deciding to take a step. back as opposed to going to championship. angle with Boston Boston Celtics offer. with Jaylen Brown and others. your. thoughts on how he ends up in Miami and. what are your thoughts on how the. Eastern Conference looks now at the top? >> Well, look, I think Miami is a top four. team uh ju just off the rip and and. again, yes, you get Giannis. Um you you. have um you have Pal, you have some. outstanding players, but I also like. Bobby Portoris as a six-man guy. So now. you have scoring off your bench. You.

didn't really deplete yourself. You. depleted of assets, not necessarily. players. Uh so I I like what Miami is. doing. I think they're one of the top. teams if healthy uh in the Eastern. Conference. And I still think in my. opinion um they need to improve their. guard play a little bit. Uh whether. that's off the bench, if you look at the. the the East, there's a lot of talented. guards, a lot of talented defensive. guards. So offensively, I think that's. something that they need to improve. But. ultimately, I think when you talk about. Giannis leaving Milwaukee, that the that.

window had closed for them. You know, they gave up so many assets for Drew. Holiday. They brought in players and. then all of a sudden as those players. age out and Giannis is in his prime that. gets to a space of where they're kind of. stuck in the cap. They don't have as. much assets and so for them to rebuild. with this young team and not rebuild all. the way. Tyler Herro is an all-star. Jame Hakez is a talented talented young. player. So is Clear and they got a bunch. of picks. If you look at it, I think.

they're probably a 3 to 5 year window. from being back in that top five top. six. That's just being conservative. They could overachieve, but I think. that's where Milwaukee is currently. right now. >> And they would have to hit on some of. the draft picks, obviously, which turns. to tonight. Uh tonight, the conversation. is the next generation of NBA stars. Let's uh let's go ahead and hit all the. main topics, okay? Because all we see is. the headlines cuz we are uh doofuses out. here in Indiana and we don't have uh one. of the top five picks like we were. supposed to. >> Yeah, true.

>> Pacers are supposed to have like number. one pick or something like that. We. didn't get it. So, I'm a little bit. bummed out about that entire thing. There was certainly a situation, but. there are obviously other storylines. that are going to continue to heat up. Go ahead, Tone. >> Yeah, R.J., for those of us that didn't. follow the college game super closely, we see Darren Peterson and we see the. skill and then we see the headlines. about him leaving games early and. sitting out and stuff like that and. cramping. Um, so in your opinion and and. just like the real because I'm sure you. have gotten more inside information, is. that stuff overblown with him? like is.

does his talent overweigh all of that. stuff? Was that stuff real? Because we. were talking about earlier like when. Aunt Edwards was at Georgia and he was. coming out, there was similar stories, stuff like that. He turn he's one of the. best players in the NBA. So, what are. your thoughts on Darren Peterson and all. the noise around him? >> Well, it happened with Pablo Beno. he. was cramping at Duke. And there there. are things when you're a top five pick, especially early on um in the college. season, it becomes I don't want to say. you become conservative, but your one. thing is to make sure that you don't get. hurt, you don't like suffer from or make.

your draft stock suffer. I think with. Peterson, he's so talented. There's no. doubt. People were saying he was number. one pick five, 10 games into the season, and you understand why. I think that you. have to understand is when you're a. player of this caliber, everything's. under the microscope. Jaylen Brown, Jiannis onto Dumpo, LeBron J, everything. is under the microscope. So, for him um. and some of the other top picks to be. under the microscope, that's just. getting them ready for what they're. going to uh deal with on the next level.

Now, to deal with him, like if we're. going to talk about him as a player, those are things that yes, if you are a. scout, you want to say, "Okay, what is. this?" Because the number one pick in. the draft is a guy that's supposed to. change your franchise. He's supposed to. be the face possibly of the league. There's only one of those every single. year and there's an exclusive club. So, you want a person that has all the. tools, mental, emotional, physical. Uh. you want all of those things. So, it's. not his physical ability. It's not his. talent. It's more of okay, what's his. grind look like? Can he play through an.

82 game season? And we've talked about. it's 82 plus you got to win another 16. to go to go get a championship. So when. you start looking at that and you start. to see a player struggle to get through. 30 games, that's and when I say. struggle, I means he was very very. conservative. He didn't necessarily push. himself to the limit. There was cramps. There were minute restrictions. There. were a lot of things going on, but we. don't know all of those details. But is. he legitimately. talented enough to be the number one. pick? He could be the number one pick in. multiple years. But there's this guy AJ.

who is a physical specimen that is a. stud. that is a monster that looks like. he's ready to play and dominate right. now and he sounds like he wants to. dominate. He does all those things. Sometimes it's about saying the right. things, not always necessarily doing the. right things on the court. >> Yeah, he's projected to be the guy. That's why Utah potentially getting the. number one overall pick with the BYU. connection would have been crazy. Instead, now Utah has two, Washington. has one. How will it pan out? number one. overall pick expected to be a franchise. changer and a mover, but obviously the.

NBA draft, the first round, nobody. really looks at anybody past five as a. legit thing seemingly every single year. Tai has a question about all of that? >> Yeah, Richard, we've heard coming into. the draft process that this is one of. the deepest uh most talented drafts in. several years, but in your opinion, how. many of these guys can realistically or. will realistically make an impact year. one? Because like Pat mentioned, it. seemed like not even towards the back. half of the lottery, you know, you have. the first five or so guys who actually. play legit minutes and then it seems. like a lot of these guys who are first.

round picks, we don't see the first year. and a lot of times we we really don't. see any uh thing from them. So, how many. of these guys actually will be like key. lynch pins to the the teams that they. get drafted by? Well, it's always tough. because you look at a team like San. Antonio and they were a talented team. that ended up with the number two pick. in the draft and he was one of the best. players in in the playoffs if you look. at Dylan Harper. But then there's also. guys like Cooper Flag who's the number. one pick in the draft. He goes to a team. that has talent but they're injured. And.

then you go and look at a guy like Khan. Canipple, you know, he was he was in the. top pick but the way he played helped in. my opinion lift Charlotte kind of in. that kind of in between zone. So, it. depends on where these guys go. It. depends on what their needs are. There. were so many teams that are tanking. When we talk about an impact, we is it a. is it a game impact? Is it a winning. impact? Because there's some teams in. there. Grizzlies, they're far away. Jazz. might be closer than people think. Um I. think the Kings are far away. The Hawks. with with the eighth pick. They are.

closer. The Mavericks with the ninth. pick. So, a lot of these guys, it's like. some of these guys are player, they're. game ready right now, but is their team. ready? So, a guy might average 17. points, 16 points, and you're like, he's. a stud, but he's doing it for the third. worst team in the league. But there. might be a guy that averages 13 points a. game for a playoff team. So, it's all. about where you draft, what your need. is, and can a guy be ready to. contribute. What I was so impressed with. Dylan Harper being the number two pick. is that he was contributing to a.

championship run. Now, you don't see. that very often with rookies, but then. there's other guys that were out there. that had outstanding rookie years. They. were just on a tough team. They were on. a team that were struggling, that was. still tanking. So, I think that there. were a lot of guys in this Excuse me. Excuse me. >> No, tanking. Rebuilding. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Uh, you know what, Pat? I apologize. I. misspoke. Still dealing with some of the. stuff. Still a little jetlagged, if you. know what I mean. >> Oh, from [laughter] all the good. philanthropy. Yeah. From Yeah. The. philanthropy philanthrop the soft ass.

tanking that was happening in the NBA. >> Yeah. Yes. What? Yes. That's what I was. referencing. But when you look at a lot. of these players, I think a lot of these. players will be able to contribute. It's. just where are they going to contribute. to a high level playoff team and they're. the 10th pick or they're the 12th pick. or they're the number one pick and. they're averaging 19 20 points a game. for a team that will be in the lottery. again next year. >> I think it is good that we kind of know. all these guys at least. Remember there. was a run there where it was who gives. uh Damya from. >> Yeah. Not as many years. Yeah.

>> Two years ago. >> Had no idea. >> Damya. Damya. You've really changed Pat. Damn. Who gives a damn you? Yeah, [laughter] that that person that person. was from uh Spain or something. There. was a run there where it was like. >> Yeah, I forget where these these guys. were coming from. And then it was like, well, we hope they choose to come to the. NBA. It's like, what the [ __ ] are you. guys doing over there? [laughter] You're. drafting people we've never heard of. And then these people get to decide. whether or not they're coming to the. NBA. I was just like I was befuddled by. it. And then Wy obviously comes through. France and we didn't learn really about.

him. Dofus should have known about him a. long time ago, I think, especially. whenever he was 17 and him and Chet were. battling for this entire thing. I think. we should have known that at the time, but we learn of this guy and we're like, "So, this is gonna be the greatest. basketball player of all time and. they're like, >> probably.". >> Yeah. Yeah, he is going to be like, "Yeah, he's got [laughter]. >> So, it feels like NBA draft is like real. hit or miss." Like, I I feel like it's. like really exciting or it's uh not at. all like year to year. This year, it. feels like everybody's talking about. like, "Hey, good players this year." It. feels like it's good players and known.

players. I think that's a big deal. >> Yes. And that's why there was so much. rebuilding this year because there was. such an elite draft that so many teams. were like, "We got to get in the top. three." You saw what happened with your. Pacers. Uh uh my Brooklyn Nets had had a. bit of a struggle, too. They had a tough. season. Ended up with the six pick. The. Whoa. Whoa. I don't. >> Wolf They were [laughter] agreed. Agreed. Agreed. But this is what I'm. saying. Look, the Nets could go 0 for 82. and I'll still look at you like this is.

gravy, okay? Like everything is fine. >> I don't know if a lot of people are. doing that anymore. I like that you're. still doing that. Respect. >> I'm still do I I'm still doing that. But. I think again you look at AUF, there are. players that are going to be around that. 6, seven, eight, and nine that literally. could be allstars in two or three years. And so like this is one of the years. where 6 7 8 9 could win rookie of the. year. We don't know. the top guys, elite, outstanding, but you can also see. guys that win rookie of the years that. aren't the number one, the number two, the number three pick. >> Here's Jeremy Woo's uh projected top 10.

>> Mhm. >> We know Jeremy Woo, right? We're big. fans. >> Oh, yeah. Woo. Jeremy Woo. >> Yeah. He's. >> He'll woo you. >> They will. >> He's wooed me. >> Yeah. With this draft. >> Yeah, he wooed you. Yeah. And I look, I. like Male Brown Jr. I, you know, me, I. like Akuff a little bit more. my Arizona. Wildcats played against played against. Arkansas. Uh, and that was I was scared. of him. I was like, "Yo, this is the. type of player that can take over a. game. Has that mentality." Um, there's. some good guards in this league. You see.

another Arizona player down there, Bur. So, um, no, no, this is a very, very. good draft. There are impact players. My. big thing when you're drafting a player, especially if you're in the seven to to. 18 range, especially, you want a guy. that can contribute right away. That. doesn't mean that average is 18. That. means, can this guy give us eight, nine. points? Can this guy play defense? Can. he block shots? Can he hit can he hit a. three? So, you want somebody that can. contribute to the success of your team? And I think that that increases as you. get kind of in that 10 to 20 range. When.

you go from 20 to 30, to me, that's more. of like you might want to take a a. person that you can develop because your. team might already be loaded. >> A flyer. Doubt it. Okay, last question. isn't about the draft. It's about a. situation that's happening in Boston. right now. And I we think you'd be. obviously the perfect person to give an. answer. Go ahead, Con. >> Yeah, Richie, how do you feel about the. Jaylen Brown situation? It feels like. now, hey, we got to move this guy. This. is the second time in four years, as. Sham's pointed out, that they've tried. and included Jaylen Brown in trade.

talks. What do you think his reaction is. to everything? Do you think he's done. with kind of the entire thing and wants. a fresh start somewhere else, or do you. think this is something that could maybe. motivate him and help the Celtics this. upcoming season? Well, I think if we always look at. Jaylen Brown's career, he always looks. at things as a motivation. He is a. champion. He's a Finals MVP. The dude. this year, uh, without Jason Tatum. showed that he is a top 10 player in the. league, was an MV was high on the MVP. candidate list. But when I look at him. and what he's able to do on the court,

two-way player, he's elite. You know, he's in the mold of Kawhi Leonard, of. the the the young Paul George, he has. all of that. But one thing that I would. say to Jaylen Brown is that as your. career goes on, these are conversations. that we'll have. You got traded or. potentially got traded for Giannis. This. wasn't a package deal in a young. all-star. This is one of the the. all-time greats. And it's kind of like. Anthony Davis getting traded for Luca. Hey, it's Luca. You got to understand. And so what I would, if I was Jaylen.

Brown, I would under help him understand. that like, hey, this is a part of the. business. It's a little tough when it's. with your first team, a team that you've. accomplished so much. But your team's. job is also to field calls. And if they. can get Giannis, then that's most likely. what they're what they would try to do. Now, they wouldn't give away everything, right? They wouldn't give away anything, but they would listen to calls for. Giannis. And whenever guys like Giannis. or LeBron or Kevin Durant, Lucas, whenever these guys hit the market, everybody is available. And and just. because you were to go, let's say he.

were to magically go to a team, let's. say Portland, right? Three years from. now, Portland could be feeling cold. There is no loyalty in our business. There is none. There's a little bit of. respect. There's no loyalty in. professional sports. Pat, you know that. You've seen handshakes and then the next. day they walk out in the room and trade. you. These are things that are very, very normal. Are there emotions. involved? But understand the grass will. not always be greener on the other side. reality of the business doesn't always. feel good though, especially whenever. you're the one that's being talked about.

as being potentially a moving piece in. the entire chess game. I hope JB and. Tatum continue up there in Boston. But. the Boston Celtics fans say the way. Jaylen Brown operates with the way you. talked about is everything is. motivation. Is he going to be cool just. coming back to the Celtics after this. publicly happens? I appreciate Richard. franchise, what is the immediate. response? What is the reaction? And how. do you kind of uh emotionally roll. through this entire process, if you. will? >> Yeah. Well, I had no idea. And uh I. shouldn't say I knew there was maybe a. slight chance that this could become a. reality. Um, but I was never g given my. hopes up because you just never know and. he could have gone anywhere. He could. have stayed. Uh, we had no idea. But the. second that I mean I think Brady should. should tell the story about how we found.

out. But, uh, we were all together and. it was one of the greatest moments of my. entire life. Um, I had my daughter. Millie in my hands. I'm like lifting her. up like up to the Stanley Cup. I'm like, "Yeah, yes." [laughter]. But Brady, you got to tell the story. about how you actually found out. >> Please do. >> Yeah, it was uh it was an eventful day. We had Milliey's baptism in the morning. We had Father's Day brunch, and I was. just told things are happening fast, so. just be on your phone. And we were. actually having a a gold medal party.

that night uh for all of our family and. friends in St. Louis. So, we're doing. family pictures before I was off my. phone for five minutes. And our. grandpa's standing out there. We're in. the middle of our family pictures like, "Huh, this is interesting. we have, you. know, Emily Kaplan and Per LeBron just. said, "Brad, you just got traded to. Florida." So, there's that. I was like, "What?" And so, I went right right. inside. I was holding my son and no, so. I had like 10 mis calls and and realized. that it happened and uh we'd always uh.

we'll have that together that we found. out all in the same room. >> Yeah. having a professional photographer. there at four family photos in the exact. moment that you find out that the family. is going to be reathering in South. Florida as teammates. Uh Brady, you knew. you were going to get traded. Is that. kind of just a part of the business? We. were just chatting about this with. Richard Jefferson and what happened with. Jaylen Brown out of Boston potentially. getting traded for Giannis and the trade. not happening and how he reacts. Obviously with Team USA winning uh the. gold medal, we had such a high such a. boost here in the United States of.

America. I think Matthew probably felt. it with his organization and obviously. when you guys came back, but a lot of. our stars were up on Canadian franchise. >> and we we had been reading things about. maybe the local Canadians not being. necessarily as excited to welcome back. the American heroes, you know, and we as. doofuses in America didn't necessarily. love that. So, I literally just said, "We need all the guys back in America. We need all the guys back in America. That's what we need." Now, that was in. the moment. That was rude. Obviously, we. like Canada. We appreciate Canada and. Ottawa, but how do you kind of get to. the point of knowing you're going to get.

traded? And in hockey, is there a lot of. conversations with the player? It sounds. like no, other than just stay by your. phone. How do you kind of end up at in. Florida? This seems like uh hockey gods. kind of blessing kind of taking place. >> Well, first I'm just really thankful. for, you know, the city of Ottawa, the. Ottawa Centers organization, and you. know, I was there for eight years. It. was an amazing eight years. made me into. who I am. But uh no, I think it was just. you know a lot kind of went into it. It. wasn't an easy decision at all. It was.

um know tough, but felt like it was you. know just ready for the next chapter and. and uh just have you know those. conversations with um you know the. senator's management and and just kind. of you know waiting around a little bit, let them um I guess figure it out a. little bit and just I got a call just. know things were happening really fast. is pretty just stagnant, stale and and. um just kind of just going about. everyday life. And then um over.

[clears throat] the weekend it just got. a call from you know our agent saying. that things are happening pretty fast. So just uh you know be on your phone. just um could happen you know any second. but it could happen in a couple days. So, um I think that was more, you know, a draining mentally and emotionally and. and um now that it's done, it's, you. know, very thankful for, you know, everybody involved, both parties and and. uh like I said, I wouldn't be the man I. am if it wasn't for um you know, all the. people in Ottawa that welcome me from. day one. So, now we're on to the next.

chapter. Um you know, I'm really excited. about it. >> Yeah, great barn up there in Ottawa and. I appreciate you shouting them out. Obviously, a massive piece of your. story. Let's talk about YouTube's story. Obviously, we saw you on Team USA. Uh. Brady, I think we saw a lot of behind. the scenes miked up of you actually. saying we're going to win this game like. uh taking on a leadership role. I think. you have a seat. Matthew, obviously. you're a massive leader down there in. Florida. Uh Team USA, you're together. How many other teams have you guys. played together? And is there just a. fist fight that happens between you both. to see who's the alpha? How did the.

Chucks kind of handle that situation, Matt? >> Um no, there's no fist fighting because. I'm fighting an uphill battle on that. one. But, uh, other than Team USA at the. Four Nations Olympics, I think the first. time we ever played with each other was. at the All-Star game down here in. Florida. So, we've only been playing. together for three times, never on the. same regular season team. Um, but, um, I'm just I'm over the moon excited. What. I told Brady, too, what's great about. down here is like he had to wear a lot. of hats playing up in in Ottawa, being a.

young captain, playing in Canada. um you. know just dealing with like a lot of. stuff like whether it's in his control. or not which is I mean sometimes a. little bit unfortunate in the business. where like the best part about playing. down here and this might sound like a. little bit bad but we're really just. like pieces of meat down here like you. have your role like you wear one hat you. don't have to do somebody else's job um. and it's just a total group effort we're.

a deep team I mean it's it's the. greatest place to live look at Giannis. coming down here. It's not even the same. sport and it's very similar. Um, and. just life's good and the team's fun and. there's nobody fighting to be the alpha. I mean, >> there's so many. >> Well, just know if I sign down there, just know if I sign down there day one, punching Brady right in the face. [laughter]. >> Well, what what are you going to have to. what are you going to have to make down. here? Like 70 million. You're [laughter].

>> okay. I see the state tax. I understand. that there's a potential alternate home. coming down there. No doubt. But I. >> No, I I just I just tell Brady like. [laughter]. everybody's an alpha in their own way. There's there's guys on this team. I. mean, there's maybe if we were on guys. were on other teams, there could be 10. captains on our team right now here in. Florida. So, just come down here, have. so much fun, play, do your job and your. job only, and and you're just going to. see your game just elevate to a whole. another level. So, I'm I can't wait to. see him this year. I think the best is.

Well, Big Walt as well, which also. leads to this. Go ahead, Ty. >> Yeah. So, I mean, obviously, you know, you you guys are now finding out that. you're going to be playing together, and. I assume that is awesome. You're all. together, but how special was it hearing. that your dad is going in to the Hall of.

Fame as well, and being able to kind of. share that moment with it? Cuz every. time you guys, you know, accomplish. something, it seems like that is one of. the first things the camera picks up as. it cuts to the crowd and your dad is. always there supporting you guys. So, how awesome was that moment? >> That was incredible. We've been talking, you just oneuped us all all weekend. So, uh, I mean, just the way we found out. just he was ready. He found out I think. it was in St. Louis. The announcement. was at 2:00 and he found out at 12:30. He just like nobody noticed. He went.

outside for a phone call and then came. back and then he was like, "I'm ready to. take this to the announcement, not tell. anybody and just be let everybody be. surprised." But he's like, "All right.". Like my uncle was there and a cousin was. there and he's like, "All right, Brady, just go grab a beer. We'll have it in. the kitchen so you know nobody can see. And then he's just like I'm like, "What's going on?" He's like, "Uh, well. guys, cheers. I just got in the hall and. everybody went nuts and lost it." And it. was unbelievable. Like my mom's sitting. in the other room with the grandkids.

like, "What? What's going on?" And then. it was just awesome. Just such a special. moment that I know I'll never forget. It's so welld deserved. And uh I'm just. so happy for him. >> Yeah. Matt, we were looking up his stats. uh earlier today. You guys got a lot of. work to do, bro. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, we do. >> Yeah. [laughter] Yeah, you guys got a. lot of work to do. What a stud. I love. that he is living his career still. through you guys as well and it's very. obvious and it's very evident and I love. how much of a family thing hockey is. You know, we saw that obviously with the.

Hughes is and we see it with you and it. feels like we looked it up. How many. sets of brothers have played on the same. team? >> I think 47 total sets of brothers have. played on the same team. >> It's incredible because you guys think. like obviously you two battling against. each other as lads, young lads probably. has helped all this. Is that an accurate. depiction or or is the age difference. too much or how do you kind of attribute. that to the success of it all? Matt, >> I just think that I had to drag Brady. along with me. I mean, needed somebody. to play mini hockey with. I needed. somebody to play roller hockey with, so.

I dragged him along. And I think it. really helped both of us. And I mean, we've competed in every single thing. that you could ever think about all of. our lives. And as we've gotten older, that shifted to competing against each. other into really, really, really. wanting to compete with each other. And. we had that experience at Four Nations, had the best time in the world, and then. went to the Olympics. And I mean, it was. literally the best time in the world. with us and our in our memories. So, um. I mean, this is just a dream come true.

This is this is Olympics on steroids for. us every single day. having him at the. rink today, just like driving him in the. golf cart. It's just you can't make it. up right now. So, >> a really cute, guys. It's really cute. >> We're we're we're just having a blast. And and the girls are out together, our. wives, you know, figuring out where he's. going to live. And so, just our family. has has always been so close. And this. experience, us playing with each other, is just a dream for the whole family. >> All right. We're happy to hear that.

We're also happy that you guys are going. to play a brand of hockey that we love. to that point. Connor has a question. Last question for you. >> Yeah, Brady. Going all the way back to. the four nations, you know, it kind of. started where you guys just started. throwing hands right right away before. the puck even dropped. It was kind of. agreed upon. And then going back to the. playoffs, game one, first one out of any. series, you and Jordan Stall basically. dropped the mitts right off the bat. Uh. what was like that like? How did that. come about? And did you realize in the. moment like I might be beating the hell. out of the Consite winners [laughter] in.

game one? >> Yeah. Um, now that one just wanted, you. know, you know, we I wouldn't say we. snuck in, but just wanted to show um, you know, we're playing against, you. know, an unreal team and and uh, I knew. I was going to be playing against, you. know, stall all series and, um, I guess. just wanted to show, you know, our team. and, uh, you know, everybody that, uh, we're going to be ready to play. We're. going to, you know, try to conquer the. beast and, uh, um, just kind of show. we're ready. And uh yeah, didn't expect.

uh what followed after um of course she. getting swept and then them going on to. win the stamp [laughter]. and him uh and then him went into Con. Smite. So um yeah, that that that one. stung a little bit, [laughter]. but uh that was a great player and and. uh clearly a great captain, too. Yeah, we all got a chance to remember and. experience the end of Jordan Stall's. magical playoff run, but it was nice to. relive the very beginning of that entire. thing where you two just agree, seemingly both agree to fighting each.

other there, too. How does that go. about? You guys just look at each other. cuz from our angle, it looked like you. said, "Yeah," and he said, "Yeah." And. then literally we just get after it. Is. that as much as it takes in the hockey. world as somebody I think you beat the. hell out of PK as a rookie as well, Subs? Whenever it comes to the fighting thing, is there normally some sort of agreement. that takes place between each other? Is. it like uh is it just known or is that. [ __ ] coming out of nowhere for one of. you normally? >> Well, I mean that situation um it was.

more like we're we're going to fight at. some point this series and then he was. like why don't we just fight now? I was. like okay great. Like I didn't expect. that. So, um, yeah, but then usually. it's it's weird like you just have like. that connection with the guy like you. don't even have to say anything. You. just. >> How did the one with how did the one. with PK go? >> Just he knocks you down and and just uh. I was like that that wasn't more of a. question. I was a we're going and. [laughter] immediately grabbed on and.

forced hand. So, um, but yeah, no, it's. it's where you just sometimes just don't. even have to say anything. You just both. know what's happening. >> And what's your what's the strategy? Matt, do you fight much? I don't think I. I see you hitting people a lot. I'm more. of a pass. >> I do not I don't uh I'm definitely not. as good as as him. >> Yeah, >> that's what that's what all the guys. were saying today. They're like, I can't. believe how big he is and like in person. he's just a monster. So, no wonder why. he does good at the fighting. But no, Brady. Brady, that's he is way better at. that. He's way better at a lot of things.

than me and that is definitely one of. them. >> Yeah. Okay. Well, that's going to. happen, I think, in the household. These. guys, especially with Big Walt keys, you. know, that that's going to take place. Yeah. But PK said that you were a grown. man and now he said you did get him at. the end of his shift. He said he. [laughter] he said you got him at the. end of a shift which is a strategy move. by you potentially. Is that accurate? >> Well, I will say I I do have to defend. him. Fighting at the end of the shift is. the worst thing in the world. You're. already fighting an uphill battle with. that one. So yeah, he he was in one from. the very beginning. See that's.

>> Yeah, we've grown a lot since the last. World Cup. I would say in the last World. Cup, we were a little bit obviously. inexperienced. I hate to say that word, but that's probably the truth more than. anything. Whereas now, we're just more. mature. A lot of us have changed in our. personal lives, becoming fathers, growing up, um, everything that comes. with life. And now, as we enter this. World Cup, I feel the group is is more. together than ever. We have a belief. that um I don't know that we had before. Um and we're just continually growing. >> Okay. So, you talk about inexperience.

Does that show like uh when you're a. little bit under siege maybe by. Australia? Okay. Like in the second. half, it felt like we're a little under. siege there, but there was no panic. It. didn't feel Now first half obviously we. all enjoyed a lot more, did we not? We. all enjoyed that. Oh god, it was. awesome. >> Yeah. And then Paraguay, I guess four. quarters now. We enjoyed the four. quarters against Paraguay. We loved. everything about that. But that second. half did feel a little bit different. than the start of the World Cup for you. guys. Is it a necessity to kind of go. through stuff like that? Like what do. you kind of think about how you guys.

have played here two games down and. already clinching? >> Yeah, you have to be battle tested. I. think in the in the second half against. uh Australia, you could see we we. invited them more to to put a little bit. more pressure on, but of course when. you're up, you know, two zero, uh a team. is going to come out and attack a little. bit more. But uh again, I think we. handled the pressure well. It's. something that you're going to have to. go through at different points in the. games, especially with the heat playing. a factor as well as you start to. fatigue, but um I felt like we were. comfortable still in that second half. >> Okay, tell me about the heat in the. fatigue in the four quarters that are.

happening because obviously this is. drawing a lot of conversation. I think. natural sports fans uh like us watching. going to a commercial, taking a break, no big deal for us. >> All good. >> Yeah, for us this is uh this is. completely normal [ __ ] that's happening. here. And of course, they want to sell. some [ __ ] to us. Like uh we we very much. understand that. Feels like the soccer. community, the super soccer people. aren't necessarily in love with it. I. assume old school soccer players like we. used to go 110 degrees. Okay. 10 minutes. of stoppage time straight through every. single time with no air conditioning in.

the locker room. Like I assume there's a. lot of that [ __ ] as well. But can you. tell me about the hydration break? And. maybe does it change the way you guys. are playing? Does it change anything. other than the fact that you know. they're they're putting more commercials. into games? Yeah, I told every European that I'm. friends with that uh the US won't sneak. away from sneaking an ad in any. opportunity that they get. Uh so that's. something to get used to for sure. But. um I think I think for for us I mean I. haven't celebrated one goal. I'm always. going to the sideline to get to get. water any opportunity I can cuz playing.

in this heat again and adjusting to it. is obviously a little bit different than. playing in Europe. So um something to. get used to but yeah it's normal. >> Okay. I like it. I appreciate it. play for Bournemouth, but is that. because all the guys that we have now. are playing in these massive leagues, are used to the bigger moments playing. against these players. So, like. confidence also a huge piece of what we. have right now, or is it skill level and. athleticism that we also have that we. haven't had in the past? >> No, listen, confidence is a is a huge. thing. I think our group has been. together long enough that the chemistry. is flowing. Everyone feels in sync with. one another throughout the entirety of a. game. Um, that being said, we also do. have a really athletic team. like when. you go around the team and you pick.

player for player uh against any team in. the world really, we have an extremely. athletic team and I think you sprinkle. that in now with the quality that we. have with guys playing at the clubs. around the world that they do. Um those. two things go hand in hand with one. another. >> I like that the American team is more. athletic than everybody else. >> Yes, should be. >> Can you guys catch You guys can't throw. though, right? That's a big You guys. can't do that. >> Depends who you're talking to. >> You can you can we can you. >> basketball good? played basketball in. high school. Uh, American football. My.

US team for like 10 plus years now. Now. that you're both 27 and this is. obviously multiple World Cups for you. guys. How huge is it for you guys to. have that camaraderie in the middle. between you two and then and then kind. of the other guys that you've been. playing with since you're teenagers now? >> Yeah. No, I've I've played with Western. for a long time. We uh we moved to. Florida together to go to residency. program for the national team when we. were 15 I believe. Um so yeah, going on. 12 years and knowing one another and. yeah, I feel like I know him like I know.

my brothers at this point. We spend. almost too much time together. Um the. banter never changes between the two of. us, but it's like we're childhood. friends. So, you know, these are these. are the kids that I grew up with. Um and. now as we grow into men and our lives. start to evolve kind of, you know, you're going to war with one another on. the field and you have each other's. back. So, it brings uh the team that. much closer. >> Are you guys chirping a lot out there on. the field? Are are we known as a chirpy. team? >> Uh yeah, me and Weston, I think for sure. to other teams. I think we're kind of.

the catalyst for a lot of that. But, um. yeah, I think our I think our our [ __ ]. talk is getting a little bit better. [laughter]. >> Okay. I like that we're doing that. I. like that we're chirping a little bit. because it's interesting with the V. [ __ ] I didn't know they could just go. back and get like the petty stuff that's. happening behind the scenes. Like I I. think I saw and obviously I was never I. played soccer but I was never really a. big soccer watcher and then obviously I. buy in the most whenever you guys are. playing. Every time you guys play I. think we're going to win and I am going. full board that we are going to win. I.

didn't know the advancements of V that. they go to somebody in an apartment is. what are that room they're in is this. big. >> They got them kind of shoved. >> They got their cleats on shove. [laughter] in there. I didn't I didn't. know we're doing that. three of them too. in the shot in the frame, you know, kind. of getting in there. It's awesome. But. they're going and getting like the petty. stuff behind the scenes. They're like, "Oh, they'll look at that the next five. minutes or whatever." In the next ball. stops, they'll go back. It's like, has. that eliminated a lot of the petty [ __ ]. that you know used to happen on a field. a lot, I think, as opposed to now. Or is. it a cleaner style of soccer? Like, how.

do you kind of describe what's happening. at the World Cup right now? Feels like. it's more offensive. A lot more. offensive. >> Yeah, it's it's it's more offensive for. sure. But, um, that being said, I mean, you can't you can't get away with. anything now. I mean, there's a million. cameras in the stadium. They have a. million different angles to go to. They. walk over to the TV. It takes 10 minutes. to decide, make a decision, and then um. yeah, they can come back, give you red. card, penalties, corner kicks, whatever. I mean, it's like the cameras are. controlling the game at at some points. >> So, you guys are getting a break now.

You can't do anything really petty. >> This feels like this is a new modern. song. Feels like there's a little bit. more energy. It feels like maybe people. aren't just getting wounded as they're. getting hacked out of nowhere. Hey, this. might be the American time. This guy seems like he is an electric. factory. Can you tell me about. Ponchettino and what you've learned from. him maybe about soccer? when we when we. have water breaks, he's he's tactically. in tune, changing things, whatever he. sees from the sidelines. But he's an. incredible guy. Um he's kind of changed. the culture of everything that we have. here in US soccer in terms of, you know, he was born and raised in Argentina, a. country where, you know, it's it's a. religion to play to play the game of. soccer. Uh and growing up in that and. having him kind of share and express his.

experiences with us. I mean, he's. coached some of the best teams in the. world and uh that's definitely. influenced us. >> Okay. So, you were in residency in high. school. Sorry, as I get choked up. thinking about your drive there and not. just uh have an accidental finish of a. sip of a drink there as you were. wrapping up your answer uh at the wrong. time. I I didn't think it was going to. be You talk about residency in high. school though. So, obviously you've been. a part of the US Soccer kind of. federation association for a long time. here now. You have been projected to be. one of our guys for a long time. They.

scouted you at a tournament. They saw. you. They said, "Hey, this is going to. be the future of the United States of. America. you guys are kind of placed. into a group there. Ponchettino coming. in and changing the mindset has been a. big part of like the sub uh soccer. committee online. I think is like. Ponchettino maybe changing everything. How do you feel about the way US soccer. is now and how we got to this moment and. what Ponch maybe does for the future of. US soccer? So there's more Tyler Adams, there's more of this kind of uh to. sustain success.

>> Yeah, it's the evolution of of the game. I think for us, you know, the first goal. has to be getting our best young players. playing at the highest level possible. Um, and a lot of us are doing that at. this moment in time. And I think that's. why you see everything coming together. Um, that being said, people forget how. big the country it is and and how hard. it is to kind of put all those players. together. Also, in the US, obviously, as. you guys know, there's so many other. sports that kids can pick. I think by us. having a successful World Cup, more kids. will want to pick up a soccer ball and. continue playing and developing knowing.

that there's a chance for them to reach. the highest level and be the next me, Christian Pulich, Weston McKenna, and. the list goes on and on. So, um, I think. you give these kids more of a chance to. to grow the game. Um, a lot of that. weighs on us and our success. >> Yeah, I like that. Uh, we're having a. boom right now. And I like how cool. Ponch looks on the sideline. >> He's got Air Forces on. Okay. He's got. that blue whatever it is. Yeah, it's. like a mechanics outfit almost. The whole team. was emotional doing that and and how. cool was that for you?". >> Yeah, I think the best moment for me. after that was when you know PCH had our. team talk after the game and he goes, "Guys, listening to that made me feel. really American." And I was like, that's. exactly what I want to hear. I mean, [snorts] the the atmosphere of of that. game was probably the best that I've. played in in terms of for sure the. national team, but just in general, the. fans singing the national anthem before.

the game. Like that was electric. And. then after obviously after, you know, listening to country roads, looking at. my family singing, everyone's excited, everyone's smiling. It was incredible. >> Yeah. Almost heaven, baby. West. Virginia. But a lot of you guys for. soccer do have to go abroad, you know, to do your your job, to do your gig. So, you know, Country Roads, Take Me Home, you know, it is not a bad little tie in. too for uh you know, if you want to get. an emotional tie to that. thing, too, is like how often do we go. into something like, "Oh, this is going. to be awesome. Oh, I can't wait for it.". And then it gets here and it stinks. like this thing has lived up to the hype. completely. And I don't want to bring up. the World Baseball Classic, but that. kind of jumps the front of my mind where. it's like, "Oh yeah, we're going to win. this. This is going to be easy. We're. going to be nasty." And then we lose to. Italy and we everything happens how it. does in this in the World Cup. I mean, Team USA is dominating. Could we have. actually seen that happening? Maybe. But.

for it to really be taking place, unbelievable. And then when you talk. about Messi and Kane, Imbop and Ronaldo. and Harry Kane, I think I already said. him. Halan is the other one I'm missing. Mbappe scores a brace then comes Norway.

Holland scores a brace and now. Cristiano's on the board so I mean it. doesn't get any better than this is. really really star power at its best. Look at these guys. You know, Messi has. five goals in two games and the guy is. turning 39 tomorrow. >> Can you tell me about Messi a little. bit? Because obviously Cristiano Ronaldo. who just scored a uh. >> GO [screaming].

was in a GOAT conversation uh with him. I believe they obviously coming up at. the same time. Both of them in their. sixth World Cup. So obviously same age. group. Ple of the past obviously chit. cchat about. Let's not even get into. Tony Mola how people talk about him as. alltime great in this world. But it did. feel like it was Ronaldo and Messi being. chatted about now. It feels like not. only because he came to the MLS, but. because how he's performing now after. already winning a World Cup for his. country, he's kind of cemented that. status. Is that accurate for us to talk. about him like that? And what are some. other reasons on why?

>> Definitely. I mean, I think the. discussion goes nowhere. They're both. great football players. Cristiano did. his, you know, his thing in in Europe. for so many years as as did Messi. Now. they're both one in Saudi Arabia, like. you said, Leo here at Inter Miami in in. MLS, and he's shining. He's the MVP. He. scores most of the goals for for his. team as well. So I think it's it's. you and I have to enter into the. discussion of who is better because. obviously in in football soccer we judge.

greatness sometimes and you guys that. play the NFL you can tell me can you be. the greatest without winning a Super. Bowl because Cristiano never won the. World Cup and Messi up to Qatar 2022. >> Good point. >> Wasn't considered the greatest because. Maradona had won the World Cup. How is. it in NFL terms if I mean if you break. all sorts of records but you don't win. you know the ring are you considered one. of the greatest. >> you know the answer to that it sounds. like [laughter]. sounds like you know the answer to that.

so I'm not even going to have to get. into that but that is fascinating. because uh Messi fan in the office Gumpy. has all the uh Miami FC inter Miami kits. and everything like that obviously a. huge fan of how he plays he's been. saying he's the greatest of all time for. a long time and he feels as if whenever. he won the World Cup for Argentina, it. almost like freed him and he now he's. playing even better. Do you agree with. that? And how much longer do we think we. see Messi post the stress of winning his. country a World Cup?

>> 100%. He needed to because in Argentina, you know, soccer is life and death and. he wasn't judged as the goat as the best. because he had not won the World Cup and. he did in 2022. So now obviously he's. got that [ __ ] off his back. He's, you. know, won two Copa Americas. He won the. World Cup. He won uh you know MLS title. here, another title due to to his uh 41. titles in in his career. He's 39. tomorrow. And I don't think we'll see. him again, not at the World Cup stage,

but you know, let's enjoy him while he. lasts. Let's enjoy him. Cristiano Kian. Mbappe is younger, so he he'll be around. and he'll probably break all sorts of. records because he's uh 27 if I'm not. wrong. So, uh, let's enjoy Messi. was a different era of soccer and the. World Cup was played in in our country. I knew it was going to be a success. Furthermore, I the president of FIFA, Johnny Infantino, is using my line all. along that it's 104 Super Bowls in 39. days of competitions. And I think that. is what it is. I mean the the atmosphere. not only in the stadiums, let me tell. you guys, you know, in the cities where. the games are played is tremendous. It's. really really good. And uh yeah, I. expected I mean I'm with Tai. I didn't.

think that yesterday Alers against. Jordan in Santa Clara were going to pack. 67,000 people. Honestly, I did not. And. it doesn't matter how cheap or how. expensive the tickets were yesterday, but hey, they played before a a full. house. Can you imagine that? Alers. against Jordan in San Francisco, Santa. Clara, California. So, going back to. your question, yes, I expected the World. Cup to be big. Uh, it's getting bigger. It's going to get even, you know, bigger. if the US national team does well and.

Yeah, Andre, when it comes to the. atmospheres in the stadium, you. mentioned the game last night and it. feels like every single one has been. massive. Uh you've been to a lot of. World Cups as far as the fans inside the. stadium and also just experiencing, you. know, America, Mexico, everywhere the. games are. Is this the best it's ever. been? Because it feels like at least. from the outside looking in and Pat and. Gump, they've been to the games. Uh it. feels as though this is kind of the most. celebrated and most successful fan.

atmosphere experience thus far. It. >> it it probably is because it brings. people uh you know we could have sold. out stadiums in this country just with. the expats alone. We wouldn't if we. would have closed our borders uh we. could have sold out all the stadiums. with all the Ecuadorians with all the. Argentinians with all the Colombians. with all the Scots. I am sure of that. So people who are coming into the states. for the first time because of the World. Cup are experiencing, you know, the the. beauty of our country. I mean, the. organization, I have to say, has been.

superb. The stadiums have been uh, you. know, they they they've been touched up. a little bit. They're not your usual NFL. stadium because FIFA takes over and and. it gives you that World Cup feeling uh. everywhere you go from the minute you. park your car until you enter the. stadium and you have the FanFest and you. have people from all over and it's. bringing people together, guys. It's. bringing people together. Not anywhere. else do you see, you know, two. nationalities embracing and just. cheering on the World Cup like I've seen.

in all the stadiums I've been so far. >> Yeah, it's been special to watch. It. feels like it's a special time in like. our society's history. And I think the. MORE. >> the better. You're the man. It all came down to, I believe, Roger Goodell inevitably. having to make the decision after. talking to everybody around the NFL and. kind of getting an understanding of what. everybody's thoughts were. Just in the. NFL is declining to hold a supplemental.

draft this summer, currently leaving the. 2027 draft as the only way for Brendan. Sorsby to enter the NFL. A letter is. being sent to Sorsby and to all 32 NFL. teams to inform them of the league's. decision. This league continues to try. to show it as little tolerance for. gambling issues. I we mentioned this a. couple different times as this came up. It's like, hey, there's going to be. people in the NFL that are like, yeah, right, dude. >> Yep. >> Not with our league, not with our game. That can't come anywhere close to it. I. did not expect this at all, AJ. Honestly, with the way it was being. talked about about how, hey, most guys,

most people we're talking to are saying. second round, he's a first round talent. Uh, obviously the NFL has been forgiving. in the past if you have talent. And now. the NFL is saying you can do next draft, dude. That's what you're going to do. And, uh, then we'll evaluate you then. I. I think this is shot a surprising. decision. the first few days, you know, people. were cheering for me and they were. rooting for good golf shots, etc. But as. we got to Saturday, people wanted me to. um, you know, miss putts and were. cheering for me to miss putts. they. were, you know, yelling some profanities. and whatnot just simply cuz they didn't. want me to win, but also they maybe. wanted a closer championship. And then. come Sunday, I mean, they wanted anyone. and everyone but me. And so that that. was a challenge. Now, Shikok is a very. tough golf course and um you know, that.

in itself is is difficult. So those two. combined made for a tough Sunday, but. you know, I persevered and I embraced. the challenge. And, you know, I thought. if I just showed the fans love and. kindness that they would ultimately root. for me at the end. I don't know if they. did, but maybe next time I'm there, they'll uh be pulling for me instead of. against me. >> I thought the way you handled it was. very well done. He said it was horrible. There was no way that you're going to be. able to get out and you do. You clear.

the bunker. You're in position A here. for your third shot and then you sink a. 25 ft birdie maybe maybe longer like how. what was your thinking coming out of. that native area and then after you hit. this birdie what was your thoughts? >> Well uh Bones I think was just uh you. know teeing me up cuz it uh it was. definitely a tough lie but it wasn't. maybe as tough as he made it out to be. Um but there was definitely some talk. between my caddy and I. He kind of he. made sure multiple times like, "Hey, can.

you cover this? You sure? You feel. confident." And you know, with golf, if. you can get to the back of the ball, um. you can get the ball out and hit it. farther. And and there wasn't, even. though there's a lot of grass around me, I could hit the ball first. And so I. thought, you know what, I think I can. muscle this out. Uh definitely closer to. the bunker than I thought. Um but glad. it covered. And then, you know, making. that putt was kind of the pivotal point. of the round. It gave me uh you know two. shot leave, two to go. So I felt way. more comfortable and and now it's.

definitely the most emotion and the. loudest I've ever been on a golf course. cuz hardly anyone as you can see is. clapping for me or wanting me. But uh I. sure definitely showed my emotion and. that was kind of like uh you know that. defining moment for the day. >> Yeah, we we could feel it through the. screen, brother. I mean, there was a. couple tweets I put out there about this. being one of the most wild things I've. ever seen, you know, and then other. people were talking about never seen an. American golfer get treated like this in. America. And once again, can't stress.

this enough. The way you handled it was. phenomenal. Now, Rory told a guy he was. a fatso, which we saw live, so I think. the New York people are going to chat a. little bit in this whole thing, but I. like that you were focused on your golf. I like that you were locked in on. getting the job done. And I I like that. you're a dog, dude. You wear the Jack. Hughes jersey up in Canada a week. beforehand. You got an entire crowd. pulling against you and then on the 18th. hole you have to lag putt one from like. what 40 feet. I don't know how far it. is. Whatever the case, whatever. And you.

could a major's on the line. Everybody. in there is hoping that you leave some. meat on the bone. Everybody in there is. not not everybody. Obviously there's. people pulling for you, but in your mind. I assume it feels like everybody here. wants me to leave a little meat on the. bone. And in golf, a sport where you. have to have so much touch and you can't. get tense up or anything like that, the. lag putt here is something that needs to. be talked about as well. What are your. what's going through your mind? And how. do you keep like how do you not get. handsy there? How how do you not like. what is kind of your routine to not have. that happen when that's a huge moment in.

your life? Obviously, >> you weren't part of the everybody, right, Pat? >> No, I was pulling for you, Windom. I was. on your side. >> Thank you. I I just wanted to make sure. >> Read through the socials. I was on your. back. No, I did I did go through some. mentions with you in notifications last. week and I didn't know that that people. were like really really upset with like. uh how how you act sometimes. I I I. didn't know in the Oakmont thing that. Tone asked about obviously because he. was a caddy. We didn't know he was going. to ask about that but he wasn't the only. one. It felt like a lot of people were. still you know it I didn't know that.

that was the case until our mentions. together last week. So then whenever I. watched it kind of unfold, I was like, "Okay, this is a this is a super mental. test right now on especially in a sport. where you have to be relaxed. I don't. think you can get like tense. I don't. think you could get like mad." And that. putt, I think, is a great depiction of. that. Like how do you not want to tell. somebody to go [ __ ] themselves, especially with what they were saying. about you and at all while also having. enough touch on these greens that are. allegedly the hardest in the history. because it's a USGA course. This lag. putt, what is going through your mind?

How do you kind of handle all those. things? And in golf, do you can you have. a dog mentality that you want to fight. people while you're golfing? Like, how. do you kind of approach that? >> Well, the lag put I'll I'll uh talk. about first. I in 23 I had a similar. situation. Honestly, it was like dja vu. I hit in the fairway. I hit it to the. front of the green and I had a two putt. to win and I had a one shot lead and I. hit it up there to gimme range. And so I. literally just envisioned that and said, "Hey, I've done this before. or I can do.

Um. and then as far as the the attitude. thing, yeah, I mean, sure, there were. some things in my mind I was thinking, but you know, it's a gentleman's sport, and I also I didn't want to feed into. the crowd. I wanted to try to win them. over and show them that I'm not the. person that uh did that terrible thing. at Oakmont. And I wanted them to see. this is the real Windom. This is, you. know, I'm a dog. I wanna I want to win.

I'm a competitor and I'm gonna do it do. it in class. So, >> listen. I got pissed, acted like an. [ __ ]. I'm sorry. Now, with that being said, watch me go wire to wire here, okay? At. a course that everybody said was. impossible and played multiple different. ways. Can you tell me about the. different styles of Shinock over the. weekend and also the greens, how they. were changing every single time? Go. ahead, Ty. >> Yeah, Windom. I can't remember what the. stat was, but it was something about, you know, the the average player on tour.

makes, you know, what it might have been. like 10 uh 10 plus feet. Yeah, here we. go. Plus from 20 25 f feet, you know, 12% and you were at 50% on the week, which is just absurd. Is that the best. you've puted over a 4-day period in your. life? And also, how like like Pat. mentioned, how much different was it. playing? cuz we saw I think it was. Friday night after you got out to that. big lead they basic like the report came. out like hey they're going to make the. greens faster like we're changing this. so it's going to be a little bit more. treacherous over the weekend. Did you.

notice any change in that or not really. because it sure as hell didn't look like. you did? >> Yeah, you know I've had some other great. putting uh displays. I would say just a. few weeks ago at the Byron Nelson was. hands down maybe the best putting of my. career or my final round 60 at Pebble. But as far as a 4-day tournament, I. mean, relative to the field, yeah, this. is definitely definitely up there. And. and the greens did change the first day. Um, you know, I was playing with Dustin. Johnson and Gary. We couldn't believe. how soft and benign the greens were.

Now, granted, they were expecting tons. of um wind and potentially rain. And so, the USGA did an amazing job setting up. the golf course and highlighting how. good Shinik is rather than, you know, making it look tricked up. And the same. thing was on Friday. It was it was kind. of benign and you could make putts. Saturday it's like I I don't even know. how you can change a golf course that. much in 24 hours. It went from being. soft greens, you could spin it back to. where I mean it was getting purple. It. was so baked out and the greens got so.

difficult and any wind was moving the. ball. Guys were finally bouncing over. greens and they even then adjusted it. Saturday cuz they thought maybe it got. out of control and I think some guys uh. you know complained about it. Then it. got to like really pure and good on. Sunday where it was like a perfect. firmness. It was fast but not too fast, you know. So it was amazing. It changed. literally every day. >> But uh I think that's what they want. though, right? The USGA wants the. courses that they take the US Open to to. be a real challenge for the golfers. I.

think they were probably happy with. where the scores ended up. >> Yeah. >> You know, there's like three guys under. bar. I think they thought that they were. doing live interviews while you were. burying these putts. the president. Like. we we took a lot of pride in this year. making it right, getting it right. Having four different courses is a. hilarious thing for you guys to have to. adjust to, especially with some of those. punishments, man. >> Hey, there was some real punishment on. that course, bro. I I was watching. people look like me out there on some of. those golf courses. You sometimes I mean. there is. >> that shit's hard, brother. The mental. toughness to battle through that. And I.

like how you brought up uh some guys. complained. You can't do that for the. rest of your career. >> No, >> you can't complain one time. That's like. kind of a part of this whole thing now. winning and you come off and your. girlfriend's there, your friends. you. know, there's a clip of you walking off. saying, "Hey, we're drinking tonight.". Which was awesome. And then, of course, your dad, your dad flying in um on. Father's Day. How much more special was. that moment because of what the. environment had been uh all weekend. toward you? >> Yeah, I mean, my dad hasn't seen me play. live um in in a while and especially uh. see me win a tournament uh in person.

And so it was amazing to have him there. to win on Father's Day to share that. special moment with him is something. I'll remember for the rest of my life. You know, I haven't really cried since. last year at Oakmont. And uh it's. amazing a year later instead of, you. know, tears of, you know, embarrassment, it was tears of joy and it was awesome. to spend it with my dad. >> William, I have to ask you about I. talked about 16 earlier and how. impressive that was. What about the. Eagle on Saturday? I can't remember what. hole it was, but you played the 16. It.

was 16 again. 16 was great for you all. week. Then [laughter] uh you played the. big banana perfectly to I mean to. basically a tap in eagle here. What was. your thoughts going into that? Is that. And that was during the Saturday. conditions that you said were almost. impossible. >> Yeah. Well, it it was huge cuz the fans. were all kind of leaving. We were. playing so late. There was hardly anyone. there and it was kind of weird like you. know it's Saturday at the US Open and I. have a lead and you know there Scotty. shot a good round and you know you would.

think there'd be a lot of buzz so it was. a little flat. It was weird and I hid it. in there and people it was funny is. hardly anyone cheered that was in the. stands and we I looked and I'm like oh I. think that's pretty close and you know. making that eagle just kind of extended. my lead to to I think seven at that. point and it was you know it's one of. those things that you had just had so. much momentum going for me and that's. one of those shots I'll remember for the. rest of my life. It's definitely one of. the best 3woods in the moment you know. under the circumstances at that tough. golf course. I love that you're making.

so many life moments happen, you know, just one year after maybe a moment that. uh you always have to think about but. maybe have changed drastically from. We're proud of you, buddy. talking about Brennan Sersby. So, let's. get to it. The NFL essentially sent him. a letter and the NFL is declining to. hold a supplemental draft. And honestly, something was a miss with this all along. because every time you spoke to people. around the league about when the. supplemental draft would be and whether. or not there would be a supplemental, I. always got pauses and there were never. clearcut answers. They're like, "Oh, the. commissioner's got to decide to have. it." I'm like, "What is the issue?". Well, the issue is that the league,

despite any gambling partnerships, the. league really does not want any part of. gambling, no matter how serious it is or. isn't. And anybody that has any role. with that, anybody who has any. accusations involved with gambling, even. though the NCAA. said that there were no integrity of the. game violations, the league doesn't. care. It's the league's supplemental. draft and the league does not want to. create a supplemental draft this year. for a player who has been accused of.

gambling. They don't have enough time to. vet it. They don't care that they don't. have enough time to vet it. It's easier. for them to just say, "We're not doing. this. We don't want to do it. We're not. making exception for somebody who. admitted to bet on games of a school. that he was at, even if he was in his. dorm room and the team was on the road. at the time. And so right now, Brendan. Sorsby is shut out. He's ineligible to. play in college football. He doesn't. have an avenue to the National Football.

League. The next time the league wants. anything to do with him would be in the. 2027 NFL draft. I think. >> it said maybe [laughter]. >> okay I think Brendan Sorsby is now going. to challenge this legally but what. option is he going to have they're not. going to have the supplemental draft. it's going to come and go the league's. just going to kick the can down the road. and Brennan SSB is going to I think wind. up spending this season maybe beyond. this season certainly out of football. watching and getting ready for what he.

said you should be this should happen, but you failed to show us the studies or. show us like certain documentation on. certain things. It felt like yeah, they. they thought that he would he it seems. like the NFL feels like oh, he feels. entitled like, hey, this is going to. happen. You have to let this happen, whatever. But like as Shepy said, now. that they made this decision, there's. not enough time to do anything. Like you. can litigate, do whatever. It's just. going to continue to go on. He's not. going to be able to play in college or. the NFL next year. >> If I were him, I would not keep this. going in in litigation. Like I would not. try to sue the NFL to do the to have the.

So like as far as. support for a rookie quarterback that. they have that now I don't know if maybe. they're nervous about his body or. something or or anything like that that. wouldn't really track from this play on. its own. You would think that he has the. you know body incapability to do it and. you're not worried about like him having.

to put on weight. I think they said he. was 230. Like that is massive for a. quarterback. So it does seem like. Mendoza should roll out there, you know, day one, but Brady is a guy who started. behind. Like he always talks about how. being behind Bleo helped him a ton and. that that process is very proven in the. NFL, especially with quarterbacks who. are top picks being able to learn. So. it'll be interesting to see who do they. start with, you know, who are their. first four games. Do they play the. Texans week one? Because if they play.
