The following program is a collection of. stooges talking about happenings in the. sports world. It is meant to be comedic, informative. The opinions expressed on. this show do not necessarily reflect the. beliefs of their peers, their boss or. ESPN. There may be some cuss words. because that's how Cubans into the real. world talk. If you are a young, please. seek permission before watching any. further.
Hey, let's go. >> This show sticks and the fact that you. listen, we are very, very thankful. >> On the line with a gorgeous assist, >> the alltime leading tackler for the. Green Bay Packers, you. stop. Stop. Damn it. >> Your friend, tell your friend something. nice could change their life. [Applause]. [Music].
>> Hello, beautiful people. and welcome to. our humble the book the thunderdome on. this overreaction Monday September 1st. 2025 this program begins now. football. >> it's happening oh it's happening on. Thursday obviously the NFL kicks off but. we're already week zero and a week one. full slate of weekend through college. ball and it has been electrifying from. jump Nebraska Cincinnati at Arrowhead.
electrifying came down to the final. drive all the way through last night's. games and then tonight, North Carolina. finishes it off against TCU where we. will be there live uh for the kickoff. show and halftime show. Lucky to be down. there as the Bill Bichc era starts, but. their story lines all over football. already. Now granted, the NFL story. lines are a little bit of, you know, there's a couple guys that have been. paid. We'll certainly celebrate that, but most of it's carry over from last. week. And then as we get into Thursday. and then Friday night's games and then. Sunday's games, obviously more will. develop, but the story of today is.
mostly college ball. We're going to. debut something here called the first. 15. It's about to hit you right in the. mouth. I mean, this is about to be. something that's about to happen. I've. been thinking about it here for like a. year or so. You know, the first 15. minutes of these Monday shows, maybe. even every day show, but first 15 of. Monday for sure. We need to hit like the. top five headlines in our eyes. And in. the NFL and in football, obviously, you. strip the first 15. And so the first 15. minutes are about to be an absolute. blizzard of information and storylines. throughout sports as we cover it in only. a way that we can, which is the dumbest.
out of all parties. We can't thank you. enough for allowing us to do this for a. living. Ohio State was awesome this past. weekend. Maybe it'll be a part of the. first 15. The talks of tables here at. Boston Conor and at Tai Schmidt. Tai, don't look now. Iowa might be a team. Granowski looked like he couldn't play. quarterback there for a little bit, but. then he settled in and Iowa did their. thing. Let's go to one half of the. hammer. Cowboys AP Tone Sports Gamblers. How'd we do this weekend? I saw top five. all lost. >> Not good. >> Yeah, sports books are up early in the. college football season.
>> Texas, Bama, Notre Dame, Clemson, and. Indiana were your most bet on teams uh. for this college football week one, and. none of them covered. None of them uh. did what they were supposed to do. >> Yeah, large percentages of people. betting on those. And uh whenever the. top five goes the way of the sports. books, you can start to expect maybe a. little update in the app, you know, uh. maybe some new cars purchased for the. people that are running the sports book, but know that the sports books already. have a good lead on us. So, we need to. catch up and we will do so as we learn. more about all these teams. And do we.
know enough about anybody right now? I. don't think so, but maybe. >> maybe. >> maybe we do. Maybe eyes saw some things. and made us believe that they're the. real deal. nine-year NFL vet looking. incredibly cool. This appears to be a. football costume. This appears to be one. that we're looking for. Dary J Butler is. here. >> Debb, how you doing, pal? Good to see. you. You look amazing. >> Doing great. Glad to be back with the. boys. >> Yeah, football season. Great to have. you. Hope your daughter did fantastic in. our golf uh tournament and uh we will. follow that all year. Plum Mustangs lost.
a heartbreaker. >> Football tight. >> Close one. >> Yeah, real close. Yeah, real close. >> How close is that? Is. >> I think it's a kid. Oh jeez. >> Not good. Okay. He'll bounce back. It's. good. Probably a good kick. >> We got a lot of time. We got a lot of. time. We'll uh we'll do it. >> Throw the bread. You got me missing. kick. >> Miss the kick. That's how. >> All right, let's get to the top five. headlines. Yeah, I think so. Uh I I was. just reading through text. I wasn't. there, you know. I was following along. via text message. >> Yeah. Let's see what these boys got.
Let's see. It is a long season. >> See the grit. >> It is long. It was home opener. >> Got to win that one. >> Home in front of the new jumbotronics. >> Yeah, thatronics. Yeah. Well, I don't I. don't know if you know, but in. Pennsylvania, they're only allowed like. one week of of like training camp and. like one week off because it's like too. hot and too tough and stuff. So, you. know, >> it's other states as well, just so we. understand. It's not just Pennsylvania. leading the way and looking out for. their players safety. No. Does it. >> hinder the toughness of a team. potentially, but the boys from Plum. always going to be tough and they're. going to show their mental toughness. after bouncing back for a Friday night.
loss. Got a long season ahead. Nactronics jumbotron said. >> thing looks spectacular. Not a lot of. highlights show. Thing looks. spectacular. I'm excited for that. I'm. also excited for this. This will be the. top five headlines in our eyes. Now, granted, will our top five headlines. match other people's top five headlines? Maybe. But on this particular sports. day, the five things that we think you. need to hear about, we're going to cover. early in the first 15. So, let's put 15. minutes on the clock, please. Um, yeah, we got an actual clock. I mean, things. are actually uh happening. And let's. start with roll that thing. Let's go.
with number five. Tonight, the Bill Bich. era debuts down there in Chapel Bill, North Carolina. They'll take on TCU in a. game that's going to be on ESPN, a game. that's going to be, I think, electrifying. Now, will the underh hit? We think so. Uh, we think what you saw. with Matt Patricia against Arch Manning, which we will certainly talk about here. in a little bit. They were saying Matt. Patricia uh basically Bill Bich, Steve. Sarkeesian, well, Bill Bich is actually. now in college ball. What will he do to. the highpaced TCU offense? We shall see.
There was an article written on ESPN.com. this morning actually pretty balanced. covered, you know, all the things that. have basically happened since Bill has. become the UNCC head coach. Obviously, there's been some drama. There's been a. lot of drama, but there's been a lot of. good in the building as well. Like, for. instance, tonight, I believe Michael. Jordan will be on the side. >> Julius Peppers, Lawrence Taylor, Eric. Church, Chase Rice, who I was actually. there for his last football game as a. North Carolina Tarheel. They lost by one. point to um the West Virginia. Mountaineers. >> I remember that. >> Oh, yeah.
>> It was in North Carolina. And Chase Rice. will be there obviously. Same with uh. Blake Snow. So whenever you're talking. about the who's who of North Carolina, Mia Ham is going to be swinging by, it's. like the attention that this North. Carolina football team is getting is. obviously at a different level than it. had been over the years. But will they. be able to play football immediately? Will they be a team that'll be able to. gel quickly like some of these other. teams that we've seen around college. ball that got a lot of transfer portal. people, got a lot of people that maybe. didn't know each other just a few months. ago, come together, play good football, or are they going to be a team that got. a bunch of people that don't know each.
other come back and be bad at football? TCU is a tough task, but tonight should. be electrifying down in North Carolina. >> Yeah, at 333 wins in the NFL, I think. he's going to be able to figure out in. college. 5-1, I think, was his year one. record for the Patriots. So, might take. a little bit here, but they're going to. be in every single game. >> Yeah, I think it's going to be an under. as well. I think it's going to get a. little tight. That's the number five. headline as they take off on runway 23. You remember the Michael Jordan. sponsorship there. There is a stat about. the betting here for Bill Bichc as an. underdog. >> Yeah, I do. Uh, from 2000, this is from.
Hembo, by the way. I don't want to take. this as my own. >> Agreed. Clock ticking. >> From 2001 to 2019, which is the Brady. Bichc area era, the Patriots were. underdogs 53 times. New England went. 32-21 with a 604 win percentage in those. games. The best record in the NFL as an. underdog over that span. UNCC is a dog. tonight. >> So, we assume that this is going to go. under because we think Bill Bich will. make you play left-handed. They said. Matt Patricia Bellich Steve Sarkeesian. What does that mean actually, D? But as. a man who was drafted at the top of the. second round to the New England Patriots. defense,
>> that really means the defense is very, very prepared and prepared to show one. thing pre- snap and then another thing. post snap. We're all good liars and. we're all on the same page. A defense is. tough to stop, especially for these. young quarterbacks. So, you talked about. it taking time uh early on. He has free. agency. He has the draft already. Brand. new team. I think they'll be prepared. I. got UNCC winning straight up. >> Oh, I like that. Now he he does have. connections to uh we we all have. connections to Lombardi and Bichk. But. TCU great football team and at the end. of last year they got real hot. They. figured out who they were. A lot of.
tempo. How will Bill Bich manage that? We shall see. Let's go to the number. four headline from the weekend. Hey, special teams were special special. Now. we're not just talking about a little. special. We're talking special. A lot of. great things for the brand across the. board. Let's go down to the Beamer Bowl. where we had some Beamer ball. South. Carolina return man Vicari Swain takes. this thing 80 yards to the crib 108. game. It was a KG affair. Both teams. looked good actually. Lenor Sers is a. guy. Cannot wait to see what he does in. the NFL and also for the rest of the.
year for South Carolina. And Vicari. Swain is an absolute menace. He's a DB. who uh great vision, great everything. And then let's go to immediately after. the game. They're calling this the. Beamer Bowl because obviously Frank. Beamer, Shane's, uh, Padre, his fodder, uh, coached at Virginia Tech for a long. time. Shane Beamer went to Virginia. Tech. Shane Beamer started his entire. coaching career at Virginia Tech. Now. he's a head coach at South Carolina with. the highest expectations that he's ever. had there. Frank Beamer before the game. said he's loved seeing Shane live out. his dream as a head coach. And taking on. Virginia Tech, obviously going to be a.
little bit of tear of heart, but blood. is thicker than legacy is what Frank. Beamer said. And after the game, this is. what Shane came up to say to his old. man. Oh man, that one's over. >> Thank you. Thought you'd like a special. teams touchdown. >> Yeah. Congratulations. >> Thank you. Love you. >> Beamer Bowl in the Beamer Bowl is a. magical thing. Virginia Tech started out. much better than they did last year. They had a lot more question marks. around the entirety. But South Carolina. gets a big win. Special teams are going.
to be good because of Beamer Bowl. Lenor. Celler seems to be a guy. They're. talking about him being a guy guy now. He's big. He's strong. great leadership. as well, which is great. And he can spin. that thing. I love what South Carolina. did here early. And also, if you're. going to get uh kick returns and punt. returns every game, you're going to win. those days. >> Got to win that third phase. And you. know this better than anyone. The. Cardinals with special teams is a rekick. on punts. And that was a rekick. Set. them up for the DB to do his thing. Special special play in the bowl. >> On that note, uh he elected for them to. rekick. Not every coach does that. It.
was like an illegal formation or. something. Sometimes they'll just take. the 10- yard penalty from the end of the. spot and move on. Beamer born imbaptized. in special teams. That's right. So, we'll do the rekick. All the coverage. teams tired. Okay. Everybody's very. tired going down the field. Now, he hit. a good ball. I'm not saying he did not. hit a good ball. Sometimes your second. ball, too. Mulligan can hit a little bit. better. But the people that are trying. to cover that thing, they want that. second ball. >> not returned. We've already we've already run down the. field. Yeah, we have already done this. whole thing again. And uh that ball was.
murdered. Obviously, I'm not going to. blame the punter, but a rekick, you're. right, is a great decision by uh easy. for me to say, great decision for Shane. to make, but also for them to make him. punish, that's beautiful thing for the. Beamer Bowl. >> There was also a rekick in Ruckers and. Ohio uh this weekend as well. The second. one was blocked. So, a couple times this. weekend where the rekick has gotten. shoved up someone's ass. >> Let's talk about punter Devin Bale. Okay, kickoff guy for Arkansas. Tries to. hit a squib kick instead. Boom. Right. off a guy over his head. Excuse me. Scoops that thing. Now, you can't.
advance it, but I do like that he got. nasty with it. He put that ball. immediately on his outside hand, too. He. wasn't going to get stripped. He was. actually looking to stiff arm, folks. I. think he was going to stiff arm a couple. people. Hits a guy right in his thigh or. his chest. Bounce up over his head, grabs it. A lot of people say, "Hey, do. this every time." I agree. I mean, I. agree. Off the shin, actually, up over. his head. We should do this every single. time. Now, if he avoids that and that. ball continues left and goes out of. bounds, uh, this is starting at the 40. as opposed to them getting the ball. So, it's a little bit of a dangerous.
situation, but you rarely see anybody on. a kickoff return team standing right in. front of a kick. And that is by design. That is be so that you don't get blasted. with the ball. I respect and appreciate. how athletic Devin looked there. And uh. yeah, if somebody's going to stand in. that, go on, Devin. Now, you have no. idea where that's going to bounce. But. if that goes right back to you, if you. can master it, that's a good trait to be. able to have there, boss. >> Yeah. I mean, maybe we changed the rule, too, of not being able to advance the. ball cuz after seeing him catch that, it's like, you know what? If if he was. able to execute this, let's let this boy.
maybe try to run it back for a. touchdown. >> Could you imagine? Cuz it looked like he. was ready to. >> and he had a full head of steam, too. He. was going. >> and he was natural. That's a punter, by. the way. Uh we looked that up. I cuz I. was like, damn, very athletic kicker. No. offense to the kickers, but that's a. very athletic kicker. Turns out he's a. punter. That makes a lot more sense. >> Cuz as a punter, I'd like to let. everybody know within the special teams. group, I think we are the far superior. athletes. Yeah. Now. the kickers are going to say, "Yeah, but. we're like brain surgeons, so who's more. athletic?" And it's like, "Yeah, we get.
it." But the punter, he ready to move. Let's talk about some of these kickers. Miami last night. Yes, big one. Okay. It's a 47 y minute left, fourth and. three. Now, I do not like the. conservative play calls. Okay. I I do. not love what Miami did there late. I. think Carson Beck can get you in and out. of a play. I think Carson Beck can. execute an offense. I think they look. great. Carter Davis came in as just a. kickoff guy at FAU. Now he's become the. full-time starter. They put his stats up. like, "Hey, this guy was four of 11." I. think they're all real long cuz he was. the kickoff guy. So, I think he was. probably the long field goal guy. And I.
I I didn't hear a lot of context being. given when they put that stat up there. >> I'd assume there he was the big the big. like. >> 50 plus. >> Yeah. Sent him out there for the big one. cuz he had a really strong leg. But. whenever he stepped out there for that. 47 y and I only knew that 411 step, I. thought to myself, I don't know if this. one goes through. Pured this thing. I. mean, absolutely pured it. Well, it. wasn't down to center still. That was a. no doubter off of his foot. And that. thing is clearing the upright. I mean, if they would have had the little. statcast thing on it, we're talking. probably 60s some yards. What a beast.
Another kicker. Absolute stud. Iowa. kicker. Drew Stevens hits a 55 yard over. there in Iowa. Tyakowski, who didn't. look like a quarterback early, but. figured it out. You got a kicker that. can hit 55 yards. I didn't know that. >> Yeah, this is huge. And this is the long. hit the net. >> Oh, yeah. I mean, that that looked like. it was good from 65. That was the. longest field goal for Iowa in like 12, 13 years. Iowa football like that that. is he's a massive weapon for them and he. delivers time and time again. So yeah, Drew Stevens is an absolute stud and. he'll be vital for the Hawks. >> Big 10, you got to be able to beat the.
win. You got to have a big leg. Uh he's. probably going to have some misses. I. mean, nobody is going to go perfect in. the Big 10, especially with how hard his. kick, snap, hold, everything operation. We saw that on display last night. Miami, Notre Dame, with the snap being. outside. It's very difficult to get a. snap, hold kickoff with anybody, let. alone in college when it's not a. full-time job for everybody. That's a. huge kick. Who do you got this weekend? >> Uh Iowa State Seahawks. >> Yeah. Do you know his their kicker Kyle. Canardi 63 yards opening week. >> Oh wow. >> Bang. >> So clean. Now obviously that put them up.
27 to7 over South Dakota. But what a. ball there. 63 just to execute that. Once again, snap, hold, block, kick, everything live in a game. Unbelievable. Especially for a college guy. That was a. pure ball as well. I like what I'm. seeing. >> Yeah. And he's slowly becoming like a. legend at Iowa State. last year in the. Sihawk game. He hit that walk-off. game-winning field goal in Kinnick 50. plus and then another 60 plus yard this. week. Like he's he's unbelievable. >> Yeah, I think he has a 62 yard under his. belt as well. I think they said this. would be a record for himself. Uh I.
don't know. But they also said the. record was 58. So I mean whatever, he's. adult. I love watching them. Iowa State. might come down to the kickers. We'll. see. And it'll be a showcase event. And. then obviously there was an 80 yard. punt. That's the greatest thing I've. seen. Tulsa punter Agnes Davies from. Victoria, Australia hits this thing 60. yards in the air, lands it about the 34. and then it gets a 24 yd roll. >> Unbelievable 80 yd ball. 90 yards from. foot to spot it stops. That's that's.
football. >> When I watch that, I get real excited. How could you not watching a torpedo fly. that far? Everybody in that stadium 100. 150. >> Yeah. Yeah. Probably around 150. >> Everybody in that 200 beer. >> It was big. Yeah. Everybody in that. stadium, that's one of those things. You. hit that ball in a stadium, everybody. goes. That's what you're looking for. They. when you punt, you hear, "Oh, that's not. good. That means it's shit.". >> You hear a whole like you just hear air. just being kind of suck. It's like, yeah, you hit a good one. That kid had.
to feel that immediately coming off the. foot and gets a great bounce. Now, uh. the return team is telling the returner, you catch the [ __ ] ball. >> Okay, you catch the ball. But anytime a. punter gets a good bounce, they always. try to blame the returner. He put it. over his head on purpose. He put it to a. place that that guy wouldn't be able to. get it so that he would be able to get a. 24 yard return. Congrats to Angus. That's a big time ball. And I love that. special teams are special. Special. Now, let's go around college ball. Who's. real? Who's real? >> Who's real? Good question.
>> Who's fake? >> Is Ohio State all the way back cuz that. defense is seemingly unbelievable. How. about FSU and Thomas Castalanos? He. flipped the entire culture of Boston. College. Is he going down to FSU and. doing the same damn thing? And there. might be some sort of record on the uh. line here for Cost. >> Yeah. Funny enough, Thomas Castellanos. becomes the first quarterback in the. history of football to go into a team as. an unranked opponent and beat a ranked. opponent, then decide, hey, I'm going to.
transfer. Transfer to the team that he. beat. And then that same team that he. beat a year later will then play for. them and then beat a ranked opponent. He's the first player ever. #that. >> Yeah, it might be a real stat. We don't. know, but we do know he is real. And uh. anytime you talk mass amounts of [ __ ]. about an entire institution and you turn. around and back it up, I love it. Shout. out to Thomas Castalonus and Mike. Norville. Utah, unbelievable powerhouse. We'll talk about them here in a little. bit cuz their quarterback might be the. guy. Uh Miami obviously huge win. Carson.
Beck in and out. He can get it done. And. CJ Daniels, one of the nicest catches we. have ever seen. just so happens to come. in week one in a massive to take a lead. right before half. Unbelievable catch. Carson Beck looks like he's right at. home down in Miami. He's got handshakes. for everybody on that team. >> Oh yeah. >> I think he's potentially in the second. floor getting shoulder rubs down there. with the boys. I think Carson Beck's. fitting in very well with the Miami uh. uh LSU. They could be a squad after. their huge win with Nus Meyer over. Clemson. And then obviously uh anytime.
you think about college teams that could. be real, >> you think about who is Rich Rod. coaching. WVU. >> could be a real deal this year, bro. >> No doubt were buzzing. >> They were absolutely buzzing. Terrible. first half. >> Hey, it's going to happen. Week one. >> 35 zip second half. >> Listen, Bobby V's not going to just go. out there and lay down. >> I agree. Rob Morris is a really good. team this year. >> Oh yeah. >> But Rob Morris a really good team. This. is Nico Monzerella here. Now Mo, he he. uh he stuck around. Okay. We thought he. would leave. He did not. Shout out to.
him sticking around. And then we got a. couple guys that are all over the field. Now, if we win this weekend against Ohio. University, we're only three-point. favorites in Ohio, okay? Which is. certainly something I like us a lot in. that. And then Pit is able to get a big. time win. All eyes are on game day. potentially heading to Morgantown for. Pit, West Virginia. So, who's real at. this point? We're not 100% sure, but we. do know there were some highlights that. put across the board. Let's go to the. number two headline from the weekend. How about some Arch Madness? Or maybe is. it arch sadness? >> Oh no,
>> I was part of the problem. I was very. loud. I call him Neo. I call him the. one. I said, I've known his boy since. he's young man. He's been going to. Manning Pass Academy. He's gonna be the. one. I went to bat for him very, very, very, very, very loud. I think a lot of. people did it. I've seen him play and. obviously people that think of a Manning. and automatically think of some traits. He's certainly one of them. But what. this Ohio State defense did to him and. the Sarkeesian offense as a whole, we. have no idea what Arch and Texas are. going to look like this year. That is a. fact. I don't think necessarily Caleb. Downs that Ohio State defense is the. best way to start the entirety of your.
career, but nonetheless, he's going to. have to learn quick. Who do they got. this weekend? >> San Jose State. >> Okay, so he might go crazy this weekend. We shall see how the rest of the year. goes. Big loss for Texas. Huge win for. Ohio State, who might not give up more. than 10 points all year. And then the. number one story from the weekend, Coach. Corso's perfect farewell. Game day was. an honor to be a part of. The people at. Ohio State took care of us so well and. cheered and celebrated a man who has. given so much to sports as a whole. And. he was perfect with his picks and he was. perfect.
>> He's perfect. >> We're close. >> He was perfect. >> Pretty damn good. >> Pretty damn good. >> He was perfect. Uh all the teams that he. coached or played for won throughout the. weekend. So like everything about it. seemed like the proper sendoff for the. sports icon that is Coach Corso. and. getting a chance to go out on that 50. and be on that desk as he gave that re. it was it was really cool. Obviously it. was emotional. >> A lot of parties have been around him a. very long time. That Friday production. meeting obviously he's everpresent. He's.
always active and you can feel his uh. sense of joy of life and energy and. everything every single time. He will. certainly be missed behind the scenes. I. think everybody will understand that. but certainly on television as well as. the entire world celebrated one. particular person who's given back to a. sport and to a show more than maybe. anybody in the history. So, shout out to. coach Corso, shout out to Ohio State and. uh maybe he could still send a text for. his picks because it feels like he's. seeing the board pretty good.
>> Yeah, he should just What if he makes a. substack? >> That's not a bad idea. >> What if he makes a substack and puts. that thing up there? That would be uh. classic. Coach Corso's only fans uh just. giving out his picks every single. weekend. Uh coach, you're the man. I. appreciate you. Went to a lunchon on. Friday, the tail end of it obviously. because our show is during lunchtime. So. I caught the tail end of it just like. Taro, Tom Jackson. You're talking about. the people that were just there giving.
thanks and appreciation and then the. stories that were being told about him. Uh yeah, he's a dog, dude. Always has. been, always will be. And it was an. honor to watch him work and see him do. his thing. So that was our first 15 21. minutes, I think. >> Boom. Pretty good. >> I mean, not not to mention the the other. things. >> Yeah. We got a couple other little. things we'd like to do every single. Monday. Uh how about uh you probably. slept on. >> Now, there's a couple players that play. uh on the West Coast. Y. >> and these games started very late.
>> Very late. >> I was up very late on Sat unexpectedly. 3:00 a.m. night on Saturday. Football's. still on. >> Okay, football's still on. These games. on the West Coast were happening. Two. guys that you probably were sleeping. while we're playing might be the two. best guys in the country. That that that. is just no [ __ ] Now granted, we. haven't seen teams play against great. opponents. Some teams play against great. opponents, so we have no idea what. they're going to look like. >> This dude, Devin Dampier, >> he's a problem. >> Filthy. >> He is an absolute problem. This guy had.
19 rushing touchdowns last year. >> Yeah. 1200 rushing yards last season. >> 19. And now he threw 12 touchdowns and. also 12 picks last year as well at New. Mexico, but he ran for 19 touchdowns. And I'll tell you what, obviously the. passes are nice there. They just give. him the r this he's unstoppable. It. seems like he can't tackle him. Now, does UCLA suck? Maybe they might. We We. have no idea. They might absolutely. suck, but I know this guy was. electrifying. They went on a 21play. drive that was 9 minutes and 44 seconds. long.
>> Jeez. >> 21 playing. just an absolute 21 drive. I didn't even. know that was possible to have 21 play. drive and I think they had another one. that was like 19 plays or something like. that. You're talking about an insanely. powerful team and you team that up with. their defense that they're always going. to have in Utah. It's like is this the. year for the youths maybe? >> Yeah. Kyle Whittingham has only had. three losing season in his 21 seasons of. coaching. So last year they went five. and seven or whatever they did but they. didn't have a quarterback. Like they had. a quarterback, Cam Rising, who was.
supposed to play, just never I don't. even know if where he's at. Like he he. just never showed up last year. So now. they have a quarterback. They brought. him in from New Mexico. They brought the. OC in from New Mexico. I love when teams. do that. And they have one of the best. offensive lines in the country. So if. they can run the ball and play defense. like Utah does. Could be the favorite in. the Big 12. >> Okay. Could be the favorite in the Big. 12. West Virginia still exists, but. watching him late night was certainly uh. a little bit of a scary sight. You know, this guy's really good. He seems to have. it. And also uh Cal's quarterback as we. know uh Fernando.
>> Mendoza. >> Mendoza came to Indiana out of Cal. freshman from Hawaii here was committed. and enrolled at Oregon before even. joining the Oregon football team goes. into the transfer portal first get first. time ever senior. >> signs letter of intent goes to Oregon. before football starts transfers to Cal. okay so I guess letter of intent doesn't. mean anything especially if the transfer. you can transfer before your freshman. season. >> Yeah, not anymore. >> Okay, that happened. And I'll tell you. what, who's happy about that? Cal, they.
got a guy. >> Saga polo. >> Saga. Nail it. >> Jiren Kave. >> Jiren Kave. Saga. >> Boom. >> This dude might be the one. He's very. tall, very athletic. And look at these. ball. I mean, >> yeah, you're all of them. >> He started six of six. First game ever. >> Yeah, we And I don't know how far we are. into this highlight. Maybe 50 seconds. We're 50 seconds in. All of these balls. are just right. Perfect ball. Like. that's a runner's ball. Obviously, that's a touchdown, but that ball is. right here. If that was in at the 50 or.
at the 40, that ball is gone. All of the. passes are right where they're supposed. to be. He's tall. He's a lefty, so it's. a little bit awkward sometimes for. defense. I mean, he's off balance. >> He's got Vic in him. He's got Tula in. him. He's got some Pat White in him cuz. he's able to move. I mean, he is the. real This guy's the guy. >> Look at that. >> Oh, >> yeah. Very, very calm. He could have he. could have bought wings and handed to. him. >> and dropped that thing over the guy's. long I mean that guy had no idea that.
was. >> that guy thought it was a back shoulder. it. No, sorry. It's front shoulder. Actually, you're going to drop it, right? It is. He was outrageous and. people will probably fell asleep and had. no and nobody's going to talk about a. cow. Oregon State Oregon State now. >> We don't know what they are either. >> Sure. >> Okay. Their coach was not happy. Obviously, there was a lot of bickering. Malik Murphy, who's their quarterback. now, formerly at Duke, he and the coach. were getting into a little bit on the. sideline late. Feels like Oregon State. might be in some trouble football wise, but can always bounce back. But these. two dudes were playing very, very late. night and you probably didn't see them.
They were a show and it was uh it was a. cool way to not fall asleep I guess. Sunday morning kind of hated these guys. >> Sure. Sunday morning kind of hated these. guys. McKenzie's up early. How you. doing? We need breakfast. We're up here. doing it. I'm like you all know last. night Saga Paul was telling me. >> okay Deon Dan here were going crazy. I'm. so sorry into the early morning. I know. you're up there snoozeing. We're very. thankful for that. We'd like you to. continue to do that. But boy, it was a. late night on Saturday and I think. that's going to continue with these two. >> Yeah, it will. And it's crazy how week. one works because everyone was super.
down on Cal coming in this year. They. had a ton of transfers out, things that. they just didn't feel like good vibes. around the program and then this kid. comes in week one and now everyone's. super high on them. They're like, "Oh, anything could happen this season." And. then on the, you know, on the other. side, there's teams that just laid an. absolute egg this this weekend and their. season's done. >> Yeah. Oregon State fans probably feeling. that way. Alabama fans are feeling. >> certain. Exactly. >> Well, that was my first thought. >> Florida State might be real, though. >> Yeah, they might be. >> Yeah, they might be real. State might be. back. >> Bama will be real once Sago, how do you. say his name?
>> Sago Polle. >> Yeah. Once he's the quarterback for. Alabama next year, they'll be real good. >> Yeah. Well, so that's what happened with. Fernando. Uh he comes over to Indiana. He was quarterback last year, the lead. cow into the spotlight into the, you. know, everything that they were in. And. he goes to Indiana. Kurt Signetti was. like, "Okay, we need to reload. Let's. get a quarterback that has experience, some wins, and some big time games and. everything like that." Which is becoming. a blueprint for a lot of these teams. And then now Cal didn't even have a. quarterback post signing day really. And. then who knows what happens with. Sagapola. I assume maybe he thought it.
was going to be a comp or what like with. Dante Moore who very good with Oregon. Very very good with Oregon. Maybe he. thought I need to play right now. I need. to go find another thing and then K's. just sitting there originally his team. right and he's like hey you need to. come. Yeah Dante Moore is a guy but. Sakapoli is right. He needs to be on a. field because of what you just said. there. I'm not saying Cal's gonna lose. him. Ron Rivera is their general. manager, right? Yeah. >> Okay. So, he's gonna do everything he. can to keep them him for sure. And I. assume they got a lot of money out of. Cal if you can drum up the alums. Sure.
A lot of finance people out there, I. think. And. >> no player ever in the history of the. NFL. >> Okay. Exactly. Uh Aaron Rogers, you want. him to give money maybe to keep this kid. around? Maybe. But if they can keep him, he's going to have he's a game changer. for them. People want to come play with. him. >> Yeah. >> And I uh Hawaii. A lot of uses travel to. a couple different schools. You know, BYU, obviously, Utah, uh, why not Cal. Oregon gets a lot, why not? >> Boise State gets a lot, too. Like, >> I I love. >> I'm assuming he's Was he like a top. quarterback in this class? >> Yes, he was four or five star depending.
on what site you looked at. And he. actually beat out Ohio State's backup. last year, went to count. He beat him. out pretty early in camp. Okay. So, >> yeah, makes sense. I mean, you're you're. looking at the future of the NFL. Let's. not let's not get it twisted here. Saga. the future. Yeah, I love this guy. >> I mean, it looks like he was impossible. 707 against scout team. That's legit how. it looks. >> That's exactly right, though. I wanted. to go to bed so bad in the two games. that were on where both these guys just. going bananas out of nowhere.
>> It's 100 a.m. and these two dudes are. just all over the that 21 uh play drive. you would think would put you to sleep, but he was on the other. >> There was two of them players. He was on. the other one just crushing. You look. back, Utah still has the ball. Something. somebody must be hurt over here. You're. watching this game. Utah still has the. ball. Something must be going on in this. game. No, it's No, we're watching Saga. Paul and then you look over here and. they still have the ball. 21 play drive. 944. You can do that when the. quarterback can run hard and also run.
outside. It is uh you need a quarterback. that can move. >> They they run hard, too. When when. they're getting the ball to, you know, some of their tight ends, some of their. other receivers, those guys are not. going down. All right, let's uh let's. change speed a little bit here. Let's go. to the NFL. Joining us now, senior NFL. insider for ESPN, ladies and gentlemen, Adam Shfter. >> Chefy, sorry we uh were delayed. >> Gentlemen, what's going on? >> What are you doing? Where are you at? You're at the Open. >> I'm at the US Open. It's uh it's become. something of a little bit of trip like. end of summer. Take my wife and.
daughter. So, this is the day we're. doing it. And uh yeah, nice little day. >> Well, I appreciate you calling us in the. middle of it. Hey, hey, sorry. Uh, go go. work a little bit here. You know, we You. see where we're at here? US Open. It's. the ESPN event. Yeah, it's good. I gotta. go work. You know, uh, those situations. Please tell the family. We said thank. you for allowing you to have a little. bit of time here. How is the US Open? I've heard the Wimbledon's a great vibe. I heard people a lot of beers. US Open. Good time. What is it like? >> You know what? Last year we came and it. was awesome. I literally I got here five.
minutes ago. So, they're now wandering. and and doing whatever they're doing. I'll join them in progress. But by the. way, I heard you say we'll see if. Florida State is for real. I watched. them on Saturday. They're going to be. for real. They're going to be for real. Florida State. I'm just throwing it. right now. They're good. >> Yeah, they're big. They look big. I. think that was the the my biggest. takeaway is if you see a team that's big. and very athletic and they're winning. Like Miami big, very athletic and. winning. It's like, whoa, that team can. go. Florida State big, athletic, and. winning. Whoa, that team can maybe go.
Ohio State, big, athletic. That team can. maybe go. West Virginia. Big athletic. That team can go. Bryce Underwood from. Michigan, buddy. >> Big athletic. That guy can go. It looks. like you guys paid the right guy. Looks. like you guys are in a good spot. He was. very comfortable. >> You know what's amazing? That guy, he's. 18 years old. Like I met him last. summer, last month. He was at that time. he was 17 years old. And like to come. into all this pressure and money and.
stat like at that age, I just I think. that that is incredible. Well, that's a. lot to ask of a young man. He looked. apart on Saturday night and and you'll. see what time is that game against. Oklahoma on Saturday. Do we have any. idea? >> Uh, we do have an idea. It's either at. noon, 3:30, or 7. >> I presume 3:30 or 7 just because it's. >> Yeah, it's not going to be big noon. >> Yeah, >> it is. >> Or maybe it's 8. >> at uh 7:30 on ABC. >> 7:30 ABC. >> Let's go. >> That's a big game. Hey, Venibables and.
the boys over there very pumped about. where they're at. Underwood gets his. first real test. I like that he's. blocking people, too. He just he just. blindsided blocked the guy back. So big. >> The college. So big. >> So big. >> So two freshman. >> Did you see how comfortable he was? >> Oh, yeah. >> Like I know it's New Mexico State. No. offense New Mexico. Uh I I don't want to. I don't want to say no. No offense to. anybody, okay? Cuz some of these smaller. teams can give people hell, you know, and I don't think we give them enough. credit either when that happens. But he. was just sitting back there and just. reading and going through his pro uh. progressions. It was like.
>> that play when he was backed up in his. close to his own end zone and kind of. threw it over the top. I think the tight. end 17 over a couple like that was like. some some next level stuff. >> Yeah, he's really guy's got a guy. You. guys haven't had a guy in a little bit. You know, JJ leaves you ain't got a guy. now. >> Got a guy we pay a lot of money from a. guy that owns one of the islands in. Hawaii and uh all of a sudden we got the. best guy to ever play football. That. must be fun up there in Michigan. Chef. D. >> Well, we'll see. Again, it's early and. the guy I think will have a great career.
and I don't want to expect too much of. him early on, but it was an encouraging. start. He looks strong. He looked apart. and uh we'll see how that plays out. >> Okay, let's talk about some deals uh. that got done here. Cowboys and Don. Bland. Were they waiting on the Micah. stuff to pay other people or was this. always in the works? Well, I think when. you have all the money that you save on. Micah Parsons, you can go allocate that. elsewhere like Don Bland gets done. I. would think at some point he'll wind up.
signing Tyler Smith to a contract and. it's a lot easier when you have all this. money that you're planning on spending. on Micah Parsons to spread it around. So, Don Bland is the first benefactor of. the fact that Micah didn't get a deal. done. He will not be the last one in. Dallas. I'm sure there'll be others that. also benefit. Tyler Smith will be my. guest for the next one and we'll see how. that plays out. But Don Blank gets a big. deal over the weekend. Four years, 92. million. >> All right, let's go to the Kingdom. Debbut has a question for you. >> Yeah, Stan with cornerbacks. One of the.
best quarterbacks in the league, Trent. McDuffy. I saw a report saying a deal. may not get done out there in Kansas. City. What's the update there? >> Well, again, I think eventually some. deal will get done. They're going to. want to keep Trent McDuffy. He's a front. line, a league quarterback, but they're. not going to get a deal done before the. start of the season. Nate Taylor. reported that for ESPN.com. And the two sides have not had. significant discussions recently. Not a. big surprise that it won't get done, but. again, I would think the Chiefs will. revisit it at some point. They're going.
to want to keep them. It's not like. they're moving on from the guy. It just. means that they're not going to get the. deal done by the time they open the. season Friday night in Brazil. Amazing, right? It's Monday and the Chiefs in. charge has played Friday night in. Brazil. We got the Cowboys Eagles. Thursday. We got the Chargers Chiefs. Friday in Brazil. Football week is here. Here we go. Kind of a neat little thing. >> Yeah, we got UNCTCU tonight. I mean, we're back in ball, brother. And it is. great. Speaking of Cowboys Eagles, there's a player that will not be. playing in that particular game. He is.
now playing in Land of Cheese. Go ahead, Ty. >> Yeah. kind of like everyone uh assumed, you know, after Michael Parsons gets. traded to the Packers and gets paid, his. back is fine. We got our first glimpse. of him at practice, dawn in number one. for the Packers. >> How do we feel? >> The one. should have been zero. >> Hold on. I'm just watching these videos. today. I'm watching him running around. I'm watching him hit a tackle dummy and. I said, "Man, it's amazing how much. better your back feels when you get $188. million." It's amazing. I think I think.
it's a proven I think it's a proven. method to fix somebody. Ham, if you got a little hammy. tightness, we know the remedy. >> You got a little back tightness or a. little soreness that might need a second. or third opinion, we know the answer. This is kind of a sports doctor thing. This is kind of a sports medicine. I. don't know why everybody else isn't. adapting, right? >> If you're Give them 100 million. >> Yeah, exactly. To your point though, I. would have appreciated if he was zero. and Matthew Golden was one and not the. other way around. But I get it. first. player since Curly Lambo to wear number.
one. It's a big deal. They want to show. him like, "Hey, we we wanted you really. bad." So, they do that. But Sheffy, uh, any word on what the Packers plans are. for his usage going into Sunday against. the Lions? >> Well, they have not committed to using. him yet on Sunday. Again, I'll say this. as a general rule. If you're getting. $188 million, I I would be surprised if. he's not out there on Sunday. Now, they. want to make sure that that back feels. okay this week. Let's remember he hasn't.
gone through camp at all. Hasn't. participated any of the drills. He's. been working off to the side. So, obviously, there's going to be a. conditioning level. We'll see whether he. can play the whole game. But, I'm going. to guess he is out there. I'm going to. guess he is a factor. And you bring up. the numbers, right? He's wearing number. one. The last time Curly Lambo wore that. number was a hundred years ago. A. hundred years. We haven't seen a Packer. in that number in a hundred years. That's pretty incredible to me. 1926 was.
the last time a Packer wore number one. >> Curley Lambo's a G though. >> He is. >> Yeah. Curly Lambo got into some [ __ ] I. I mean Curly Lambo. I did a little. research on him as I was going to call I. think the Lions Packers game about where. it was, why it was. He's founder of the. Packers basically. And this dude is a. dog. >> Curly. >> Yeah. Curly Lambo is a dog. Everybody. knows Lambeau Field. Lambo Field. Curly. Lambo started the Packers I do believe. and there's some there's some things. that happened where he had to be really. you know. >> stand on business. >> He had to stand on business.
>> every all of them. >> Yeah. He wore number one. I think he was. star position. >> Yeah. >> They made him serve ball handler just. >> zero would have been sick though. >> I I think so too. And I just I I don't. love Matthew Golden wearing zero. I I. think you got a speedster receiver. >> Golden one too. >> That's pretty sweet. >> Yeah. And then Michael becomes the first. player ever to wear zero for the. Packers. Like he's a a Packer forever. problem. >> Carly Lambo, fullback, quarterback, and. kicker. >> Hey, whatever you need. >> Of course. >> Head coach.
>> That's Curly Lambo football. That's. right. And we're expecting the same out. of Micah. It is amazing. His back is. healed. I'm excited to see. They haven't. said if he's uh going to go or not. I. would assume I saw him bouncing around. his house. Y. >> I think he's in pretty good shape. >> Yeah, I think he's ready to go. >> He ain't get blown up there. Even if. he's fast, pool drain. Yeah, >> Mulliga let him know we're not going. back to Dallas. Yeah, you're going to go. ahead and be pretty confident about that. entirety. We have tried to get David. Multo on the program. We think tomorrow. we'll get a chance to chat with him. We'll be excited to go behind the scenes. on how it all came together. Let's go to.
the Pittsburgh Steelers. Go ahead, Tone. >> Yeah, Shifty. I know there hasn't been. any contract adjustments or at least it. hasn't been reported. Is uh Cam Hayward. playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers on. Sunday? >> We're going to see that he's got a. decision to make there. It was actually. the first thing I thought of when I saw. that Jaylen Warren has a new deal. Yes, he does. For the next two years, tying. him to Pittsburgh through 2027. They. have not resolved that. They've not been. able to figure it out. And so, I would. think it's going to be really. interesting to see if Cam Hayward is on. the practice field on Wednesday as the. Steelers get ready to open their season.
on Sunday against the Jets. They'll have. a decision to make Wednesday. I would. imagine he'll have a decision to make. Sunday. Probably we'll get an idea where. he's at on Wednesday. If he's not. practicing, it's not going to be a great. sign. But. I don't know what's going to happen. there. It's um it's kind of lingered out. there all summer long. >> It has not generated the amount of. attention that some of these other. issues have, >> but it's about to get interesting there. And again, maybe Cameron Hayward says, "I'm going to play on this deal." It. didn't sound that way early in the. summer, but we'll find out. Cam Hayward.
not playing for the Steelers this year, holding out because of money. >> with the whole you want to be a Steeler, you don't think. >> Yeah. >> Is just like all so much. You know, that's why whenever you do a podcast and. all those things, >> people are going to hold everything you. say against you. Even if it's. >> out of context or not the same situation. at all, they're going to do it. Cambridge knows that. He puts his big. boy pants on. That's right. >> He'll be in the Pittsburgh Steelers Ring. of Honor Hall of Fame, whatever the hell. it is, at at some point in his life. It. seems to be a little bit of a disconnect.
right now. He's been in practice though, talking to coach Tomlin. He's had pads. on this year, but he hasn't. He's been. open about it, but he hasn't really been. a distraction. Interesting. It's kind of. a Trey Hendrickson situation happening. right in front of our eyes. I don't. think Cam wants to do this. Feels. obligated to do it cuz you guys can't. just disrespect me because I've been. here for so long. >> Well, that's the thing. >> Probably has people behind him and. around him being like, "They're taking. advantage of you cuz you're a Pittsburgh. Steeler. You know, they have your. brother on the team, your dad was on the. team. He been here the second longest. tenure guy alongside Mike Webster right.
behind Ben Rothberger. Like they're. going to try to take you. They just paid. DK Mech 33 million bucks. >> That's a lot of money. >> Pittsburgh Steelers just paid DK Beck 33. million bucks a year. He's he's never. done anything for Pittsburgh. Well, you. have 45 different foundation events you. do every single year. You go to. everything rep. You're like a mascot of. Steely McBam or whatever the hell his. name is is not even a mascot. You are. our mascot around town. You go. Somebody. needs stealer representative. You go. And his his people around him are like. they're taking advantage of all this. They're just giving him money. Jaylen. >> Pat, you you bring up DK Mechaf. They.
paid DK Mechaf. They paid Jaylen Ramsay. They paid John Smith today. They paid. Jaylen Warren who's been there. So, they've paid a lot. Darius Slay, they. paid. They've paid a lot of different. players. Not to mention TJ Watt, right? >> And so, everybody seems to have gotten. paid except Cam Hayward right now. By. the way, I know it's a different deal, but Chris Boswell's in the same boat, too. We haven't talked about that. either. I don't know that a kicker is. going to walk away and retire before the. season begins, but Cam Hayward wants a.
new deal or wants it to be addressed. Chriswell wants his deal addressed. So, it's not just it's not just Cam Hayward. right now. >> Shafty Pittsburgh Steelers fan and. Yenszer Tone has. >> I'd like to be on record. >> Requested uh the floor. >> Pay Chris Boswell $60 million a year. >> Okay. >> Okay. That's pay him what that man. whatever he wants cuz he's been the best. player besides Ben Rothosberger and TJ. Watt for the last I don't know however. long he's been there. >> Yeah. Whatever you need to pay him. I. What is the kicker number right now? What is the kicker number right now?
>> Uh I don't know what he's making but the. top kickers are making5 million a year. probably. >> I think he's like a million below. whatever the top is. So. >> I mean think about that. That's one vet. min contract. You can up that thing a. million bucks and make them happy. You. know, the Steelers were disrespecting. all their vet players. They're going all. trying to win for their veteran playoff. >> They don't normally pay people unless. it's going in their last year or. whatever. And I believe he has two years. left on his contract. So, you know, they. did it with TJ, they did it with Ben, but you know, they're special people. >> and they usually trade and pay wide. receivers either.
>> Well, they also don't normally fire. offense coordinators and middle. receivers. They've been doing a lot over. there. >> That's a good point. >> But will it work out? Will it win a. Super Bowl or will this be the first. time. >> in Tomlin's tenure where he's under 500? >> Oh, no. >> Got the Jets week one. Dustin Fields. could have been your quarterback. >> Better Better win that one or the. season's over. >> Yeah, just. >> I love it. Do or die right out of the. gate. >> They don't win week once the season's. over. >> All right, on that note, Chefty, last. question here. Shout out to Sunday. Ticket, by the way. >> I love you. >> That was really nice. Whenever they were. having their dispute with uh you know,
Fox and everything, they came out. quickly like Sunday Ticket won't be. affected by this. We're like. >> needed to hear that. >> Goed. >> Thank you for doing that. Cannot wait. for Scott Hansen to be one of the uh. four and then a Colts game somewhere and. disappoint me if I'm not there and then. the other two. No, Colts going to win. this year. That was rude of me to say, >> but two of them are always going to be. the Colts and then Hansen Red Zone. channel and then the other two top. games. I can't wait for that. Oh my god, I cannot wait to get there. Shout out to. YouTube TV Sunday. Go ahead, pal. >> Yeah, I mean Colts play in Indianapolis.
this week. Pretty absurd to think about. >> against the Miami Dolphins need to win. that one. Another do or die. >> Going to need that. That's another team. probably you could throw in their season. into this. >> Yeah, into this. Shey, I'm assuming. Indie might be involved in this, but. these last two years, you've basically. hit the nail on the head when it comes. to the projection of how many head. coaching openings there will be during. the off season. Looking at it right now, obviously there's some situations that. might happen that could change things. Uh what what's your projection as of now.
as far as, you know, head coach openings. go when it when you look at it as a. whole? Who right now do you know has to. win uh going into the season? >> Conor, what I would say is it doesn't. really matter now. We haven't seen a. team lose a game yet. And so I've seen. over and over where a coach looks like. he's on the hot seat and that team all. of a sudden plays better than people. like look I think everybody feels like. Brian Dable's on the hot seat. But I. think the Giants are going to have a. better season than people expect. So all.
of a sudden if they're ripping off wins. and playing better, he's off the hot. seat. And somebody else who we weren't. expecting is going to be on the hot. seat. I think you have to let the season. play out. But we've seen on average. about 6.8 head coaching changes per. year. I believe a couple of years ago. there were 10. I believe last year it. came in lower. That tells me this year. will probably be around at the average. But a little early to ask the question. I understand why you would. I'm not. prepared to give you an authoritative. answer right now. I would say just going. in, my guess is six to seven is usually.
the number and I would imagine we'll be. around that number, but let's see how. the season shaking out before we're. putting people on the hot seat and. running them off. >> All right. Well, you certainly will do. that as soon as the call uh time calls. for it, which we appreciate. >> Yeah, we we do appreciate that. Have a. great time at the US Open. Tell your. family who said hello and sorry for. keeping you so long. >> All good. Happy Labor Day to you guys. We'll be in touch next Monday if not. sooner. >> Happy Labor Day. Is are is there a game. happen or match happening anywhere near. you right now?
>> Uh right behind me we're we're about to. go into the Cocoa Golf Naomiatch. which supposed to begin here about 45. minutes or so. >> All right. >> 45 minutes. >> We appreciate you. Enjoy yourself, man. >> Thank you guys. Have a great one. >> Ladies and gentlemen, Michigan man Adam. Sheff. about those stories that we ran through. at the beginning. Um, Arch Arch Manning. >> That was a tough go. >> Tough. >> That was a tough go. Matt Patricia's uh. Dan Olowski did it. Now Dan Olowski was.
pro Arch Manning. So Dannowski is going. to get on the side of Arch being screwed. here. Arch being held back. Sarkeesian. is give him a limited offense, which. might be true. Sarkeesian might have. done that. And then he also pointed out. a lot of things that Matt Patricia was. doing to Arch Manning. We've seen. numerous film breakdowns now from. Danlovski where Patricia would show one. thing almost like the amoeba defense. that the Ravens do and then they have. somebody hand in dirt then they're. dropping back. It was kind of like a. highlevel NFL type defense was taking.
place for that Ohio State Buckeye. defense. Now they're obviously studs won. national championship best defense in. the country I think last year. They lose. their defensive coordinator. Ryan Day. has to rehire at that position. Still. have studs all over the place. Lost some. guys to the NFL. JTT, Jack Sawyer, amongst those two guys that are gone. But they were able to reload and then. they bring in Matt Patricia. And Matt. Patricia kind of gets laughed at because. uh at the Detroit Lions, he was. horrendous. >> Yes, >> he was horrendous. He was out of shape. most of it. Uh he was on quad cuz he had.
broken ankle. Yep. >> There was really nothing good that came. out of his time with the Detroit Lions. >> So bad. >> Like everything was bad at the Detroit. Lions. We actually got along with him. >> like friends with him because Benitary. and him have known each other since he. was a ball boy with the New England. Patriots. So, I've known him a long. time. I think he's a good dude. I think. he's a funny dude. I think he's an. upbeat dude. But I think whenever he. became a head coach, he might have. thought he had to be a hard ass. Might. have thought he had to be a different. person because of how much he saw Bill. Bich and how much he learned from Bill. Bich. For whatever reason, it didn't. work. And nobody worked in Detroit.
before MCDC got there. So, you know, just jot that down as a wash. >> Bingo. >> Everybody forgets this guy used to draw. plays on every desk that he's ever been. at. Loves, addicted to ball. Whenever he. was at the Patriots and Bill Bich, now. everybody talks about Tom Brady getting. to learn defenses from Bill Bich. Matt. Patricia was defense coordinator with. Bill Bich. You're talking massive. brains. Everybody remembers the should. have handed it off to Marshawn Lynch. situation where the boys actually. practiced this exact situation leading. up to the thing because Matt Patricia. saw something early yada yada yada. He's.
a super genius and it was on display on. Saturday. Is that what you're thinking? And is this a problem for everybody in. college football? Is this the blueprint. for Arch? other teams just need to do. what Matt Patricia did or is this Ohio. State defense going to be different than. everybody else that Arch is going to. see? >> Uh coaching is a huge part of it. Obviously having your guys uh prepared, but having very very talented guys is. another part of it and they have very. talented defense. That secondary is. probably uh the best if not one of the. top three best uh in the country with. the guys that are that are still there. and the guys that they brought in. But.
uh yeah, they show some things pre-. snap, they show some things postnap and. that third Buckeye is the biggest one to. me. pressured him 14 times, 12 of which. only came with a four-man rush. If you. can get home with just sending four and. having those other seven guys have eyes. on the quarterback, break on the ball, anticipate right routes, communicate. them, pass them off, that is a huge, huge weapon when you don't have to. sacrifice guys from the coverage to get. after the quarterback. So, that was a. big deal for Matty P and the players, you know, taking on that. He did a great. job. But, in my opinion, I'm still going. to put some more than more than Dan O.
did on Arch. You know, you got to come. out there and you got to make throws. out. starting quarterback of Texas. >> He started quarterback of Texas and uh. you know he he this is his first time. being the starter, but you know he's a. joint he's been there for a couple years. and I was surprised that um how how his. mechanics look like his throwing. mechanics. You know he has some off. Yeah. the I I don't mind his sidearm but. just the the total body not not stepping. into it doing things off the back foot. Not something you expect especially from. a Manning. I'm sure uh Sarkc will clean.
some of that stuff up. I don't think, you know, Zark, yeah, you're going to be. somewhat conservative when you're facing. a co a coordinator and defensive talent. like you're facing, but you still had. opportunities all the way up until the. end of this game where if he puts that. ball, you talked about a runner's ball. earlier. You put that on that receiver. across the field. Who knows what the. rest of that drive looks like. He did. make some big time throws late in the. game, we know how athletic he is, so. long, long season. I think Arch will be. just fine, but this is a hell of a test. to come out of the gates with against. Matty P and Ohio State defense. >> Fourth quarter was definitely his best. quarter. No question. And that's is that.
because he finally figured out what the. hell Matt Patricia was trying to do to. him? Is he like a Manning where he's. trying to dissect and learn and go. forward or was he just kind of caught in. a blender and holy [ __ ] we just need to. bury the ball and move along. The Texas. defense too, >> great. >> Very, very, very, very, very good. So, I. I mean, you're talking about these were. two best defenses in the country last. year, right? Texas and Ohio State. So. literally that a lot of carryover in. that particular realm. But what a tough. start for both sane having to take on. that Texas defense. He gets a win.
Congrats to Ohio State. >> Congrats to Ryan Day. >> Tight shirts. >> Very tight. >> Yeah, he he's wearing tight shirts. We're seeing a lot, coach. We're seeing. a lot. >> Every part of your skin. >> He's He's in better shape than he has. been in a long time. He looks very good. Looks very fit. Huge win and I'm excited. for him. Cardinal Tate. Damn T. What a. catch. Bounce off his chest, off his. shin, double grab. Catches for a. touchdown. Insane can spin it. He can. certainly do that. Arch can as well is. what everybody was saying in that fourth. quarter being his best quarter. I think. we're kind of looking for like, okay,
maybe that'll carry in. Maybe he just. kind of settled in too little too late. But also, it's like your starting. quarterback in Texas. Everybody's. expecting you to be great from the jump. in this thing. >> Yeah. No one cares if if your right. tackle is a turn style and he turns. around to block the pass rusher with his. back basically. But it is going to be. all on arch. But the other thing with. Patricia is that's not getting talked. about is people are thinking like, "Hey, Belch's probably going to do this, you. know, tonight with UNCC." With Caleb DS, it's probably the only reason they can. do what they're doing. Like you talk.
about ammo defenses and moving guys all. over the place. Like Caleb DS is. probably the the only reason he's. allowed or able to do th those things. because he probably makes up for half of. the [ __ ] that they're doing. He's the. chest piece that's confusing Arch and. Patricia's just the one letting him. know. Yeah, he had him down on the line. multiple times and he would drop back. into coverage. They only brought. pressure or they got pressure with four. man or whatever 12 times out of 14. They're showing six though every time. Like did not blitz him. It looks like a. blitz every single time. And then who's. backing out? Well, you have to try to.
decipher who's going where. And whenever. they're showing zero or cover one and. then they're dropping somebody from the. line, cover two back there. Are you and. wide receivers on the same page? Probably not. Are you able to have an. out of this? Probably not. Are you. making the right read? Maybe. It's like. I think Sarkc Arch and that Texas. offense got a big wakeup call with a. very very talented defense. >> A lot was made off of, you know, they. lost their entire D line. You talked. about Jack Sawyer and JT and the two. boys in the middle. They lost off but.
but DS is back. Ignosen was back. Matthews who had the interception. They. those three all started on the back end. last year. So like while they were not. as experienced up front in the back and. then Sunonny Styles at at linebacker. like they were very experienced there. off of a championship defense. Caleb. Dons. I met his dad uh Friday night. >> Mhm. >> It was cool to meet him. Has a good. presence about him, his dad. And. obviously Caleb and Josh DS brother Josh. DS now with the Indianapolis Colts. I. think there's a three-year age. difference, I think. And one of the. stories that I was being told is that.
whenever he was very young, he was. taking a picture with his family and. Josh is like out running away and Caleb. is like directing him to come back and. stand in line. Mr. DS is basically like. Caleb's been like this since he's. >> Yeah. >> 3 years old. just has always been very. mature. He's been great at ball. I guess. there was a return or a punt return or a. kick return or something whenever he was. like a very very little kid where he was. like seeing the field and cutting back. and I was like cuz I asked him when did. you know he's like very young he did. something they were like oh we might. have a guy here and it's like almost.
been written since he was a kid like. this guy is a guy he goes to Alabama as. soon as he steps foot on the campus. they're like that's the one that that is. there's a gold jacket on that guy is a. true freshman at Alabama that was. savings Alabama too which. >> boy ain't savings Alabama anymore. >> No, no, no, it is not. >> This ain't your daddy's Alabama. >> This is not or your daddy daddy ain't. daddy's Alabama either. I mean, it is a. uh is a wild time down there. But Caleb. was a guy as soon as he gets there. So.
when that Ohio State gets him. >> plucked up there, it's like. >> they immediately we got the best player. in all college football on the defense. side, wins a national championship, going to try to do it again. It's like. >> he's the guy and Matt Patricia knows he. has that. And now it's like if you can. keep that culture on that defensive. side, especially Big 10 football, you. can really confuse and beat people up, especially if you're going to continue. to get Ohio State type athletes. Good. for them. Let's talk about that Alabama. team. >> Boy, do we have to Don't do it. >> Dan Olowski said he counted 21 LS.
>> Yeah, when you watch that means you. would have to watch every single game, every single player, every single play. >> And he did. >> 21. That's why he's the goat. >> Counted 21 LS on Alabama State. You got. to what? 21 trainers is how Rich. Rodriguez would describe that, but I. think that was the biggest takeaway is. like not only are they losing to Florida. State who is completely reloaded. >> Yes. >> Completely. And teams have been able to. be very good whenever they use the. transfer portal hard and get the right. guys in there. Thomas Castellanos, >> right guy. Right guy. Everybody else.
insanely athletic. They brought in five. new offensive linemen. Felt like Thomas. had some time. They brought in Dline. Felt like they were getting to the. quarterback. Felt like who they brought. in big, fast, very athletic. And Thomas. Castalonus has to give the entire team a. lot of confidence. Especially whenever. he comes out and says, "They ain't got. saving anymore. I I don't know who the. [ __ ] gonna stop me.". >> Basically, >> he said that. >> Then he comes and now he's got shirts. that say like Nick can't save him. Basically, it was a wild thing to say, especially.
because Alabama still most five stars. committed to the 2026. Still got like. one of the best offensive lines in all. of college ball. still got five stars. and blue chips all across the board. Kaylin Dbor also another year in his. culture. He gets his offensive. coordinator back that he had at. Washington and he had in Indiana. whenever they had a bunch of success. It's like this is going to be the. Alabama team and then you're watching. it's like. >> as Alabama they got bullied. >> beat up. >> Yeah. >> Lazy.
>> Yeah. >> Lazy. Wearing the Alabama stuff. It's. like is there not four or five stars. behind every one of those guys waiting. to take their spot? Like you want to. loaf and be lazy? you better be a. [ __ ] Heisman winner. You're if you're. just another guy on the team, there's. four guys behind you that are. >> willing to sprint full speed. Even if. they're not going to make the play, it's. like all those things kind of made, I. think, not only Alabama fans who are. obviously disgusted. Now they're making. up stories. I hear guys are getting Door. Dash fast food 1:00 a.m. day of the.
hotel. The hotel, >> not the hotel. They're walking around in. flip-flops after curfew. Nobody's. saying, "Hey, it's like friends are. talking.". >> Yeah. It's like all these things. It's. like now this if this continues it's. only those are only going to get more. and more cuz Sabin created a standard. there. >> and that is one standard you're going to. go and if we're going to play like ass. there's only going to be one reaction. when you show me on camera says blue. polo guy I don't want to hear that. legend. >> legend waited for his moment. moves along. >> I like Kaylin Dbor a lot and we don't.
know how he is like in practice and. behind closed doors but it seems like. he's just emotionless on the sidelines. you guys always talk about looking. behind and Java Vinnie always thinking, "Hey, I got to do like Sabin." Those. guys were scared to death at all times, so they all always performed with that. hard edge or whatever. It seems like. they just don't give a [ __ ]. >> Yeah, that's what Alabama fans are. saying. >> Yeah, you know, we're going to stop. giving a [ __ ]. >> right? >> I'm going to stop giving a piss. >> Yeah, >> I'm stop. >> All right, we're back on the other side. Be a friend. Tell the friends something. nice might change their life. Take. three.
Obviously, last year this segment became. a little bit of a rumor. $1.7 million. out the door for good causes and a great. college. Have you ever kicked before? >> Yes. >> What do you mean you've kicked? Hold on. I was told you have never kicked before. I feel like I've been bamboozled a. little bit here. You have kicked before? >> My brother's a kicker, so every once in. a while I go kick with him for fun. >> Okay. All right.
>> Okay. We'll make it $250,000. for you, Logan, to start this season. Anything to say here to Logan as he. tries to win $250,000. >> after that hand gesture. Breathe and. close your eyes. >> Okay. He doesn't want you to win. I do. So do these people. Oage. >> Let's go. >> Logan Kirk Herbsting will be holding for. you. >> Look, by the way, this is this is. >> tough terrain. >> Tough. >> This is real Ohio here. Glenn, if you.
want to come over this way, we'll put a. little extra pressure on him. You got. Pete running around. You got the mascot. staring you down. They don't want you to. win. Glenn doesn't want you to win. Peter is taking a dump in the middle of. the field goal kicking contest. Snip it. in. That's Peter's manure. Now, through. manure, great things grow. Will Peter's. poop grow you? $250,000. You only have one kick. I don't care how. loud they chant for a rekick. You only.
have one kick, Logan. Good luck, sir. 33. yds. Kicking is easy, everybody says. Let's find out. >> Ready, >> Glenn? What are your thoughts? >> I'm trying to give you. >> What are your thoughts? >> This is I think I think that poop was a. bad omen. >> Yeah, I mean, Pete just pooped right in. your face. >> I can't believe we don't have turf. >> Well, we're in Ohio. This a football. state. You got to be tough. Logan from. Ohio, sophomore in business finance.
Does he win $250,000? [Applause]. [Music]. [Applause]. >> Watch the poop. Watch the poop. That's. what I'm talking about. >> Jeez. Hogan. Hogan. So, >> congratulations.
I'll tell you what, $250,000. week one of the college football season. Thank you for showing up. I'm proud of. you. How do you feel, buddy? >> I feel amazing right now. That That was. amazing. >> I don't want to be the bearer of bad. news. You definitely stepped in Peter's. poop during your celebration, but who. cares? Buy yourself some new shoes from. Glen Pal. >> Back to you, Reese. What a start. >> What a start.
>> The following program is a collection of. students talking about happenings in the. sports world. It is meant to be comedic. informative. The opinions expressed on. this show do not necessarily reflect the. beliefs of their peers, their boss or. ESPN. There may be some cuss words. because that's how humans in the real. world talk. Damn it. Be a friend. Tell a friend. something nice could change their life. [Applause]. [Music]. >> Hello beautiful people and welcome back.
to our humble the Thunderdome on this. overreaction Monday September 1st 2025. Hour two of the program begins now. Football is the greatest we're so lucky. that we get a chance to chat about. Tonight UNC will take on TCU. It'll be. the debut of Bill Bichc as the head. coach of the North Carolina Tarheel. football team. Uh I alongside the. college game day folks will be doing the. kickoff show and the halftime show. So. we will be boots on the ground in Chapel.
Bill. We cannot wait to see what this. new era of Tarheel football will look. like and they're taking on a tough. hornfrog squad. This team moves. This. team's quick. What will Bill Bich try to. do alongside his boy and an entire team. with 70 new transfers? What stars are. going to be out? Michael Jordan's going. to be on the side. >> Yeah, that's right. >> Julius Pepper's going to be on the side. >> Oh, hell yeah. >> Mia Ham's going to be on the side. >> No more. >> Yeah. No, I hopefully. >> Okay. >> I mean, right. >> I hope so. >> You would think so.
>> How about Eric Church? >> Whole heard of him. >> Talladega. [Music]. go real fast. What's that? >> I don't know that one. >> Nine NFL. I don't think we do either. That's very Butler. >> It's all right. You won't hear that one. Lambbo's just going to follow him. around. Just Yeah. Hey, Spring. Come on. Maybe. >> Dr. Tables here at Boss Connor and. Natasha Schmidt. One half of the hammer.
Cowboys AP Tone is here. And joining us. live from an attic in Ohio. Fresh out of. a dinner that I'll tell you what I don't. think I've ever seen a group of people. like that together before. AJ was. certainly there. Ladies and gentlemen, AJ Hawk. Hey, that was awesome. We were hold were. you holding court at that dinner? What. was going on? Uh on Friday night. We. just so happened to be getting dinner. Two separate groups, our backs two feet. away from each other. >> Okay. He was incredible. He. >> was looking one way. I'm looking the. other way. He seemingly spotlight of. that conversation.
>> Not even close. That's a boldfaced line. I barely even spoke at that situation. But yeah, >> you were there though. You were at the. point of the the circle, you know, >> at that situation. He said, not dinner. >> It was uh it was awesome. It was You. looked like a very powerful group. I'm. going to let you. You look like Shout. out to Jeppes over there in Columbus. Great. >> Wow. >> Jeppe founder. >> Unbelievable. On his road to recovery. right now. >> Okay. >> Just uh I don't know how long ago. Do. you know how long ago it was? >> I do not. No. >> Do you know what happened to Jeppe?
>> Not really. >> Where do you live? >> That's like 40 minutes from where I. live. So yeah, go there. >> You need to know what happened. >> His son was there. His son was doing. great. Something's doing. >> Jeppi Jeppi. >> Jeppi Jeppi Paison that created Jeppes. He he and his family. >> Wow. >> Wonderful Italian. >> He was driving home. This is You guys. are going to feel like [ __ ] right. now. Just want to let you know this is. going to be a very very serious story. >> He's on his road to recovery. Not a lot. of Giovani talk over there and a lot of, you know, I don't know the situation.
sitting over there. Jeppe got t-boned. Uhoh. >> Oh, thanks Connor. >> Paralyzed. >> Oh no. >> 65 years old. Now he's back walking. >> Okay. >> 65. He's like, "He's going to get his. ass back into that restaurant." I do. believe. Talk to the family. Obviously, the family is like, uh, that as the. story was being told, we're all like, "Holy [ __ ] we're so sorry." He's like, "No, he's going to he's going to get. back. Like, that's how it is. 65 years. old, guy's a grinder. His food. immaculate. His restaurant packed to the. gills on Friday night. And me and AJ.
just like two feet away from each. other." He was talking I I just met. Caleb's dad about a minute and a half. before that. So, I was the only person I. knew at that table. He's talking to a. table of what seemed to be big wigs. I. mean, we're talking this is a big deal. over here. I think I saw some people. potentially watching, securing. >> Wow. >> What was happening here? And we're just. having a light little dinner over here. You know, a light little dinner on this. side. >> Light little dinner. >> Yeah. Light little dinner. A light. little dinner on this side. You look. like you were having a good one, though. I want to let you know. I looked over. every once in a while. I'm like, AJ's. really chopping it up in there. A lot of.
laughs. A lot of big time laughs. >> I'm a great listener. I'm a very good. listener. People say, "Yeah, but you're. dissecting as you're listening." You. know, >> I'll jump in if I I'll jump in if I'm. asked to or it's needed, but I'm not. going to like, you know, shoehorn myself. into conversations I don't know anything. about. >> You know, well, I do. That's made a. living out of that. The uh you know, they say the quiet lips, lot brain. >> That's right. >> That's what they say. You never know. what's going on in there. Something some. there's words somewhere. If they're not. coming out of here, where are they? Let's talk about the words coming out of.
there for you and all of Ohio State. alumni and fans. How do we feel after. week one? Obviously, huge test against. Texas. Your defense looked phenomenal. Obviously, Arch did not look good at. all. A lot of people blaming Stark. A. lot of people giving Matt Patricia a lot. of credit. Obviously, the players are. insanely good over there at Ohio State. Uh Julian Sain gets his first start, his. first action as an Ohio State Buckeye. quarterback other than just a spring. game. What do Ohio State fans say? You. guys got to feel great about this. national championship repeat, huh? After. week one. >> Oo, I think people feel pretty good.
Yeah. I mean, you talked to Ryan Day. going in. They said like, "Oh, what's. your expectation for Julian Sain?" He. said, "Just a win. Let's go out there. and let's get a win. Let's get a. victory." And they did. I mean, 14 to7. You would like to have a little bit more. of a cushion, but I think they like they. did everything they needed to. Texas is. an awesome team. They're number one. ranked team in the preseason. So, of. course, anytime you get a victory over a. team like that, especially to start the. season with all these new guys, some. inexperienced guys I should say, coming. in. Yeah, it's a it's a good win for the. Bucks, they're going to keep it moving. But, yeah, I think it was a positive. situation. >> I think so, too. Great setup. the the.
tribute and how you guys paid your. respects to coach Corso was cool. That. was really cool. I think obviously the. game day people are probably going to. send their thanks to the Ohio State. folks as they should. But, you know, everybody we've met over at Ohio State. has been very gracious to us which is. why we didn't want to hate them. >> Yeah, exactly. >> We didn't want We ready to though. >> We had to if we had to. We had to. >> It would have been easy. >> That's just a. >> But we didn't. >> I don't think it would have been easy. >> That's what I'm saying is it would have. been hard to do. >> It would have been oh so easy. again did.
not want to do it like genuinely enjoy. the the Ohio State the team and also. like the players the alumni that you. know will Howard you just talked to him. like they were he was very nice to you. know us the utter guys when we were at. the SPS piece which is. >> well you talk about another guy I mean. Bobby Carpenters and the facility for. >> yeah everybody there very kind to us and. has been very kind to us so we're happy. that we don't have to act like we don't. like them even though Connor's like. really we can we still act a little bit. like that. >> I I could Go go go go go.
>> It was cool. It was very cool how the. Ohio State people treated Coach Corso. That was awesome with the band line up. behind him and the whole place. I mean, that was just uh that was an epic moment. and proper sendoff and him being. absolutely perfect on all of his picks. and every team that he ever coached or. played for uh winning throughout it. I. think it was a great sendoff for a. sports icon. How'd you feel about it as. an Ohio State fan? And did you guys chat. about it at all about, you know, I'm. happy our band did I'm assuming your. band has never done that for anybody or. anything ever before, let alone a. horseshoe doing that?
>> Yeah, I don't think so. And when you. were telling me like the schedule and. how they were doing it, you know, okay, course is going to come out after the. all this stuff. I was thinking, man, that's a lot of moving parts. How in the. world do you like put that together. logistically and they they nailed it, man. It was great. Like I thought it was. it was a beautiful situation for coach. and I love that he wore the tux and then. he gets all the picks, right? All this. stuff. like it worked out exactly how it. should work out for a legend like. League. >> Yeah. And it very rarely does, right? Does it feel like that never happens? You never get the right sendoff. Feels. like he got his flowers and then all his. picture right. And he's right. I love. that. >> That's unbelievable.
>> Love that. The tuxedo was awesome. Nobody knew that was coming. Get up. there. See him at Tux. Yes. >> So, yes, that immediately what I said. you. know, he was getting a little emotional, I think, multiple different times, like. kind of taking it all in, as was. everybody, you know, cuz it was like. we're not going to see him around as. much anymore. Uh, the Southwest flight. thing, uh, that came out on Thursday or. Friday whenever they paid tribute to. him. Yeah. I started getting a bunch of. messages asking me why Coach Corso is. flying Southwest and I'm not. It's like, I don't know, but I also do know that I.
think I have offered up for Coach Corso. and he said, "Oh, way too much money. Don't you do that." Like coach Corso is. literally like old school, the oldest of. schools. And like traveling through that. airport that he did for the last 30. years through Orlando is like his thing. Like I think he loves it. I think he. loves seeing the people. I think he. likes the energy and everything. And now. granted, if I was coach Corso or his. agent, okay, he was same one. I met him. same one for 38 years. It's like I think.
we would try to talk him out of that uh. whenever he gets 80 years old. you know, he's like 90 now, 80 years old or. whatever. But I think coach Corso is. very much like a nope, this is kind of. how I operate. This is the way it goes. And uh that's like another another. reason why it's like this dude is such a. legend. There'll never be another one. Like there'll never be another Coach. Corso. And there's little story lines. like that through everything. The the. flight thing made me think of the Peter. King story about Lamar Hunt when Lamar. Hunt was flying from Kansas City to New.
York or Dallas, whatever, and he was. sitting in like 38B in the middle. reading a book and this guy essentially. invented the NFL. Like some people are. just in their routine and like to travel. that way, too. >> Yeah, he's a football coach at heart. So, he's like a creature of habit and. everything. He's probably been doing. that for decades now. And and like you. said, you know, I'm sure he enjoys like. people see him in the airport, it's. like, "Holy [ __ ] that's Lee Corso," you. know, like I it helps you feel young and. and it's just it's it's what's easy to. do. So, you know, Yeah. I mean, if he. wanted to fly private, I'm sure he'd be.
flying private. >> Well, that's what I think, too. Now, granted, should somebody have pushed a. little bit here for the last time? >> Yeah. Like, I think there was a ball. drop, but I don't know if Corso would. necessarily say, "You got it." Like I. genuinely I do not know that's the type. of guy he is. But I saw. >> I saw the video and I just was like. sick. I'm happy they're celebrating him. because we know the backstory. I didn't. even think about everybody being like. >> cuz this is how we acted as well. Yeah. Our when we learned of this, I did the. same thing. I went right to the top of.
the coach Corso can't be doing this. What are we talking? Like he likes it. Like he like that's like social media. >> It's like his thing. Like and it's like. really I I didn't know that was the. case. Now, is he just saying that so he. doesn't step on any toes and he said. because he's always just trying to, you. know, dance. Who knows? But other than. the south, uttered in a southwest thing. Yeah. >> It was like what a perfect all of it. The lunchon that we stopped by was. magnificent. The production meeting on. Friday, they captured it. It was great. Like everything about it was very, very. good. So, we'll miss him, but what a.
perfect way to kind of go out. And if if. you're ever doing anything for a. profession for that long and at the end. of it, every person including the other. network. >> Yeah. >> wants to say thanks. >> That was cool, too. >> You done good. You know, AJ, you done. good there. >> He is. I mean, yeah. Like Lee Corso was. college football. He like he. >> the the juice, the energy, the the. pageantry that college football is, like. Lee has embodied that for what 30, 40. years now. At least more than that, most. likely. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Good luck to whoever has to follow. him.
>> That would suck. It would suck. >> The whole [ __ ] sport. >> Yeah. >> Both networks, >> documentaries, more stories coming out. about how legendary he is. >> Good luck. >> Have fun. >> Yeah. You're going to do great. You're. going to do great. It's like I I was. thinking that as he was doing it. I was. like, "Bro, there's no What the How the. [ __ ] What are you supposed to do. there?". >> Yeah. Legend, dude. You just got 127,000. people to go absolutely crazy. Even the. Texas fans are doing it, you know. Even.
the Texas fans are cling, "Yeah, well, you had to do it. Had to do it." It's just like, "Wow.". All right. What a legend, dude. He He. was He's always been very kind to me, which is what I appreciate, you know, cuz I've told this story before, but. it's the truth. When I get dropped into. College Game Day full-time, it's like. week three or whatever, week two, week. three, whatever it was. I get dropped in. there. A lot of people in the SEC hated. me because they thought I was taking. time from David Pollock.
The people behind the scenes though. hated me because they knew that I was. probably brought in there to potentially. one day add the entertainment, the. energy, the spice if or when Coach Corso. was to step away. So, the SEC fans hated. me because one of the greatest players. in the history of the Southeastern. Conference, David Pollock, was. potentially going to lose some time. because I was going on there, which once. again, David Pollock incredibly kind of. to me. I get along with David Pollock. I. respect David Pollock. David Pollock was. great for college football and he was a. great football player. Got hurt when he.
was with the Cincinnati Bengals. So, he. was all he's been great. He was great to. me. Very nice to me. But the SEC and. Georgia fans more specifically, boy, they hated me. You know, big loud. dumbass from Pittsburgh's coming in here. and this guy's taking time away from a. great one of the greatest dogs in the. history. Why is this guy here? They were. loud. Boom. Boom. Boom. But what people. didn't know is behind the scenes people. hated me. not for that for the the guy. who created this entire sport and the. guy who created this show and the guy. that created this entire being is.
basically you're potentially you're. never going to basically you know so it. was an interesting little thing there. for a couple years up until now. >> and still kind of happening you know. >> so that that is certainly uh it's been. an interesting environment for me it's. been a very but like the thought of. being on that show is just such an honor. it's like I love the fact that I get to. represent football. Like that is a cool. thing getting to do. And I tried to tell. Coach Corso that uh whenever we did like. the round table shout out session to him. and I got a chance to say it on TV and.
I've said this to him off air too. It's. like he loves ball. >> Like that guy loves ball. Everything. about he loves ball and it's like I. think that is why I'm initially drawn to. him and then the way like he goes about. it. It's like that that guy's speaking. how I would speak like as a kid growing. up watching him. So, you know, I have. nothing but respect for these, but. there's a lot of people who don't have a. lot of respect for me being the guy. that's coming in there and I've. certainly felt it and uh I will try my. best to represent for football is what. I'm saying and for college football,
especially in this magical time that. we're in right now where you have no. clue what team is going to become the. greatest. You can be ass. year beforehand and then become a. perennial power yet again. Looking at. you, Florida State, you can be great and. then become. >> Oh no, what was that? Looking at you, Alabama. Will they be able to find their. way back with Crimson Tide? We shall. see. Top 10 teams competed this weekend. Six of them against each other. So, obviously, there was going to be at. least three top 10 teams with an L.
There were four. >> Penn State though, no, haven't talked. about them. >> They beat the hell out of Nevada. Drew. Aller looked good. >> Yeah, >> Drew Aller looks like what we wanted him. to look like after the terrible ending. to his season last year. He could have. either crumbled or used that as. motivation to get even better and maybe. become top pick in the NFL draft this. year. This Penn State team is for real. Ohio State obviously they get the. massive win over Texas. Texas's defense. not getting talked about because Ohio. State's defense is getting talked about.
Julian Sain and the boys couple drops. Claire Jeremiah Smith early. We don't. know what that's all about. We assume. that'll get cleaned up. Hartline now the. OC. It's like tough sledding against. that Texas defense but I think that's. going to be for everybody this year. Obviously, Clemson loses to LSU in the. Death Valley Bowl and uh said. >> LSU is the real deal. >> They are. >> Georgia defeats Marshall. That's Tony. Gibson's first game as Marshall's head. coach. Sorry about that. >> Sorry about that. Uh Notre Dame, close. one to Miami. CJ Carr, you know, he uh.
>> he seemingly was had some moments where. it's like he's a guy. Uh the running. touchdown obviously is crazy. The. scramble all the way back to his own 30. or 40. than the no look throw for his. first touchdown. I mean, this is filthy. Watch number eight just go ahead and. jump. Yeah, I got you. And number two. Uh, no. Yeah, we're going back that way. I mean, he just made the guy even more. wide open. And those are throws that a. lot of guys can miss, especially in. their first start. Get a little nervous. The guy's wide open. And then he does. the billionaire strut with the big ball.
dance. So, I like what CJ Carr showed. Miami obviously all the way back in my. eyes. I can't wait to watch them all. season. I put out a tweet, D, but I. don't have a slot. >> I said, "We're about 45 minutes away. from the month of September starting. I've only seen four quarters of this. Miami team." I believe in them. I I do I. believe in them this year. Not that I. didn't last year. So many miracles last. year. >> So many miracles last year. And you. know, they were back for the first time. long time. But whenever their fans. traveled out to Cow and I got a chance. to see him before game day, the M fans. were like, "This is different. This is. different. Crystal Ball's got his.
culture in. So now you get a new. quarterback, get a new everything. Is. Carson Beck going to be able to continue. to lead him?" Yeah, he is. And they're. big, strong, and fast. And if Carson. Beck can get them in and out of the. huddle, Carson Beck can get everybody. lined up on the offensive side. The. defensive side is going to have dudes. that can hunt, which they did. They. decided to just end the game. You got. guys making catches like that? Michael. Irvin's losing his [ __ ] on the sideline. I think there was like 60ome,000 people. at this game. 66,000 people at this. game. It's like, is Miami back? Is the. you back? And then Florida State's back,
Florida's back, the state of Florida. back in college ball as a whole. Hey, we. need especially our age group for me. being a South Florida kid, like that was. the glory days for college football. M. being good. Florida State being good. And then the University of Florida being. good. M and Florida State beating two. top 10 teams opening week. That's huge. And then Florida doing their thing. against Long Island University, I. believe. You know, good start to their. season. So, we'll they'll have some. tough they'll have a tough schedule, so. we'll see what they're about. But Lag. still looks like the real deal. But.
yeah, if these three teams can be good, which they look like they will be, that'll be huge for college football as. a whole, and for these two new. quarterbacks, you know, coming in new. places, Carson Beck and Castellano, is. like getting wins over top 10 programs, that's huge. And everything that I heard. that has been going on behind the scenes. with Carson Beck, I I grew up a. Hurricanes fan, still a Canes fan. So, everything I heard that he's done with. his teammates and then how how how he. clicked instantly with this OC where he. has much more control at the line of. scrimmage to get in and out of plays.
like as a player. I know even as a. defender when we can kind of change and. have adjustments to coverages to bunches. to do that just gives you so much more. ownership over the defense or the. offense as a player. So I love what I. saw. Malachi Tony was unbelievable. He. was electric from the jump. True. freshman. Ty Hilton s for sure. Great. great player. So yeah, it's everything's. looking good for right now and the state. of Florida as a whole, which is big for. college uh football as a whole in my. opinion. >> What are you saying, Gumpy? You're. saying yeah, let's keep watching. Hurricanes, not the Dolphins. Is it. hurricanes, hurricanes, hurricanes? Is.
that what's going on down there in South. Florida, Gump? >> Yeah, it was nice to see the defense, that new DC we got from Minnesota was. electric on the sidelines compared to. what we had last year. Just that one. bust at the end of the game. I would. have liked they threw it a little bit. more. They got way too conservative in. the second half. I know the defense was. playing well, but would have liked to. see him kind of end it a little earlier. >> I don't like three straight runs there. in the fourth quarter when you put the. game away, especially when it's only a. 47 yardd field goal. Like if that's a 27. yard field goal, we got it. We. understand that kid makes the kick.
Obviously kind of puts them in a better. spot than they could have been, but they. got real. They did rest on their yawns. there. They rest on their yawns a little. bit. AJ, this is a huge ball here though. opening night with a minute left in the. fourth. Uh 47 y for a guy that was four. of 11 in the past at FAU. I think they. were all very long kicks. I think he was. sent out there for like the long balls, so not high percentage kicks. But that. graphic didn't say that. Said this guy's. come out here 11 times. He only made it. four times. >> He had he had the pot snap earlier, too. So I know that has to be somewhere. >> And then the first extra point almost.
hits off the up and goes in. >> Tell you what, Mario is a great. recruiter. He's a he's a great coach. But sometimes in that fourth quarter, he. gets a little. >> tight. Yeah, >> he does need to get somebody in his ear. that lets them know. >> That was the thing for Miami too that. really pushed it over the edge for me. was Mario Chrisall kind of talking about. all the guys being back like about how. much more it means the you know Notre. Dame rivalry for him. And then like. Andre Johnson was there. I think Clinton. Portoris was there. Ray Lewis. >> Yeah. Ray Lewis obviously Michael Irvin. Everyone saw like the amount of players. that came back. If all that is.
happening, I mean, it reminds me of. tonight with UNCC. Like all these dudes. are going to come back for all their. home games and they're going to continue. to go and Miamiy's a scene, dude. >> Yeah, >> there's a lot to do afterwards, too. And. I think Carson Beck's doing all that. >> from the reactions I'm seeing with his. team. Yeah, I hope so, too. That's. quarterback [ __ ] That literally is. Uh, joining us now, ladies and gentlemen, is. a college football analyst for ESPN now. >> Oh, wow. Really? >> Founder of P State. Ladies and. gentlemen, the host of Josh Page's. college football show from On Three. Sports and Yahoo Sports still a thing.
Ladies and gentlemen, Josh Page. >> P. What up, dude? >> I watched what you watched last night. You just hit on, I think, the underrated. storyline of college football the past. decade. So, you're talking about all. these state of Florida teams. You sit. next to saving every Saturday. Last. title he won was the 2020 year. You. know, he won that with a defensive. backfield made up entirely of starters. that they got from South Florida because. none of the South Florida kids were. staying home. Ohio State's roster has. been littered with South Florida kids.
Clemson, Georgia, they all go into. Florida. Not because those kids are. dying to get out of the state, per se, but because for the past decade, Florida, FSU, Miami, combinations. thereof have not been able to present a. viable path to play for a title to those. instate kids. So, you're right. If the. wheel on that ship has started to turn a. little bit, it's the biggest story in. college football. Not just because you. may have two or three pre premier. programs back. Think about what it does. to pluck two or three premier players. per recruiting cycle off the rosters of.
the other contenders cuz that's been the. dynamic shift the last decade in the. sport. >> Who was the name of the guy that had the. yachts and thoughts and ended up on a. cot eating two hots in a cot? >> Neban. >> Shapiro. Neb Shapiro. >> Is he back? Does Miami have money? Does. Miami have the money to be able to keep. up with everybody seemingly? I mean, they they've paid a quarterback now. backto-back years, but are they do they. have enough money to be able to keep up. with the likes of the Big 10? >> D White was on the sideline, too. >> Yeah. His daughter goes there already. Just checked her in. He's he's become a. Miami guy. Do Do we know that.
information about every team before we. go into the year? Because it feels like. that is the piece of information that we. need as we project what the future looks. like for all these parties. >> Yeah. So, I'd say yes tentatively. already to your question. Then I would. say you've got just an utter assassin as. your head coach who also happens to. recruit 25 hours a day. But I've always. thought of Miami kind of like I think of. USC. Like if you ever were to get the. forward momentum, you saw who was in the. stands last night at that game. You know. how deep their pockets are. You just got. to convince these people that hey ball's.
moving. It's it's starting to roll. downhill cuz then everyone wants to put. their sticker on it. Everyone they won't. all have the rub with it. It's just they. happen to have deeper pockets there. So, if you initiate Miami, which they've. already got a lot of money, but if you. really initiate South Florida behind the. cause of Miami football, yeah, it's a. runaway freight train. >> I'll tell you what, Florida boys are. good at football. >> Yeah, they are. >> They certainly are. And everybody was. really feasting on South Florida. I. still think the big money schools will. be able to, but if Crystal Ball can keep.
the boys home, I mean, why not? And. Norville is able to just turn over a. team and make them big, fast, and. strong. And then Napier's got his. culture set in Florida. Is Florida a. good state of football again? >> Congratulations. It was must change. television whenever Florida was on there. for a while. Must become mustwatch. Let's go to another top 10 school. Go. ahead, Tone. >> Yeah, P. Another top 10 matchup we. watched on Saturday night was LSU. heading to Clemson. Um, did we get. bamboozled by Clemson again? You know, we all the returning production. Um, did.
that make us forget that they haven't. beat an actual good team in probably the. last three or four years? Or is LS do. you think LSU is a really really good. football team? >> Both are probably true. Uh, Tone, let's. >> let's be careful when we say we, cuz I. backed off a little bit the closer we. got to the season. You you made a point. though that it kind of extended itself. into this LSU game. So, >> Clemson last year, great year. everyone. thought they'd build on that this year. and you returning starters sometimes an. overrated stat by the way if you return.
guys who have reached their ceiling. you're just banging your head against. your ceiling again. So they faced three. SEC teams last year they go 0 and3 they. go 14 of 40 offensively on third down. against them they then go three of 12 on. third down against LSU. So they're like. 17 of 52 on third down against highest. levels of competition they face. They. can't scale up. They can't scale their. competition level. So, what we're. probably looking at, just until I see. otherwise, we're probably looking at a. team that is absolutely capable of doing. what they did last year, banging on the.
door of a playoff spot. Who knows, maybe. they win the ACC again. I'd be very. careful of that trip down to Georgia. Tech in two weeks, but I think they're. capable of what they did last year. I. just don't know that they're capable of. anything more than that. Your eyes play. tricks on you every summer. You open. that preview magazine and you see X. number of returning starters and then. you watch a quarterback coming back. Oh, he's got his same offensive coordinator, same system, same head coach, best. receiver room they've had there in quite. a while. All of those things are true. You convince yourself that means things.
just scale up another 20%. Sometimes you. just are who you are. Ironically, he may. have himself, hey, Clubnik, in the same. mess that Nusmire was in last year. Nusmire was a good quarterback for LSU. last year. He had no run game. >> and the other night, Clemson had no run. game. And if that's the case, you it's. unfair to put those guys in a position. to just expect them to, you know, mount. up and shoulder the entire load. Nusmire. threw 12 picks last year because they. couldn't run the ball. Kate had a really. good touchdown to INT ratio last year. This year, my instinct is if they can't.
run the ball any better than they did. the other night, you're going to see him. more turnoverprone, which will lead to. is he a bust conversations. No, they're. just putting him in an unwinable. position if that's the case. Yeah, desperation will lead you to throw the. ball into double teams and [ __ ] like. that is what uh I believe Josh Paige is. talking about at this exact moment. Uh. they need to run the ball with Dabo. Did. you see him? >> Yeah, man. >> He came out. Hey, that was one of the. better hill runs. >> It was. >> I've seen I mean that thing was tucked. in. The pants were up to the belly. button, but he was I mean he was really.
striding. How old is Dabo? Can we Can we. look up how old this man is? >> 35. >> How old are those hip flexors? Check the. the hip flexor. His stride length has. not shrunk. His his stride length is. still every bit the same as it was 10. years ago. And you know good and well he. works on that with. >> 55 years old with those hamstrings. Those are 55y old hamstrings. >> He played Yeah. 55 years old. You're not. supposed to be full. I mean you're. talking he was striding out Tom Cruz. >> Yeah. But even more forward lean. >> Whoa. >> Yeah. Tom Cruz has got to work on his. pace cuz he doesn't know where a bomb.
is. >> Dabo just knows that he's got to get to. that 50 faster than anybody else. He's. trying to catch up to the man in front. of him or whatever the case is. So, he's. got a little bit more forward lean, especially because he's coming down that. goddamn hill. That thing hits a little. whoopy-woo there, too. Oh, yeah. >> You know, that thing's like what? Uh, what's the place? Cedar Point in Ohio. That thing is like Cedar Point's best. roller coaster. Now, it's not Kennywood. >> It's not Kenny. >> I saw something from Kennywood this. weekend. They have some sort of event or. something. >> Yeah, there's a ride outside, too. It's. called Keep Your Head on a Swift. >> Oh, yeah. That's us. We like the booze.
and fight. >> Yeah. Sorry. Welcome. >> They will if you booze and fight. >> They shut it down, actually. Uh they. shut down Kennywood uh 21 plus nights. because there was uh six straight nights. of fights. So. >> that lady's voice. >> Hurry up. Let's go so we can get on a. ride. [Laughter]. >> So good. >> Inside jokes. >> Great. Cuz I'm I'm from rural Georgia. I. know nothing about what you're talking. about. It sounds great. >> It's just really poopy roller coaster. and there's a fight this weekend. >> It's an amusement park called Kennywood.
actually. Here's the hat. Thank you. Uh. it's in Pittsburgh. It is the greatest. amusement park in the country outside of. Disney something, you know. So if it has. Disney before it, it ain't keeping up. with it. But if you want to have a good. time with the family, >> go dorm of day. >> Yeah. >> You keep that family out of there at. night. You keep that family out of there. at night. I'm going to tell you that. Go. ahead, AJ. Back to paint. Sorry about. it, B. >> Yeah, Josh. Obviously, everyone's. talking about Arch Manning, how he. performed against that Ohio State. defense. What do you think of Arch's. performance? How's he going to do the.
rest of the year? also the Ohio State. defense and Matty Patricia what he was. able to do with some of these guys that. have not played a ton of football so far. at the college level. Like what do you. make of Arch and what do you make of. this defense Ohio State has? >> Yeah, I wish I almost wish you asked the. question in reverse, AJ, because a lot. of people are leading with Arch. Arch is. not the story here. Ohio State's defense. is the story. I I got to be real with. you. There were two instances this. Saturday where I looked and I said if. you didn't know any better, but you just. knew the storylines, you wouldn't know. which team is which. Bama FSU is one of. those, which we can talk about whenever.
But this one right here, like if I tell. you one of these teams just won a title, then they're replacing both. coordinators. Huge chunk of their. roster. That's an operation that is ripe. to have a reality check. Especially. against a hungry team, equally as. talented, still on a mission, got Arch. Manning as your quarterback, and they. stoned him. Made him so indecisive. I'm. standing there on the field. It was one. of those games where if you just watch. the quarterback, don't even follow the. ball. Don't even look at the secondary. Don't look at the line of scrimmage. You. can tell he's got time to throw. Either.
he's missing wide openen guys or there's. a blanket over that Texas wide receiver. core. Uh mostly the latter instead of. the former. I don't think they have the. kind of speed at receiver they did last. year. They can play that in the building. all they want to and let it echo through. the halls. They don't have the kind of. speed they had in their wide receiver. room last year. So they're going to have. scheme guys open a little bit more. But. dude, there should have been something. Imagine, imagine this time last week if. we had Sarkc just like quadbox him here. and we said, "Hey, you're going to hold. Ohio State to 14 in the shoe. Will you. take that?" He would have signed his.
name on whatever dotted line he could. And it wasn't enough. That was pretty. that was pretty surprising to me, dude. Ryan Day has gone from people. questioning whether he's the guy for his. own job like seven months ago to he's a. genius. He was always the same guy. Nothing's changed about Ryan Day. He was. always the same guy. It's just his. Wikipedia page is different. >> He's thinner. He's in much better shape. now. He He's in much better shape now. Tighter clothes. We all saw it. We all. know what we're talking about. But he is. in such great shape right now.
>> Patrick, can we can we please Can we. please Someone needs to air this out. nationally. >> There is a big difference in hard nipple. versus nipple ring. There's a big. difference. >> That's not us. That's not We don't need. to be doing that. You go to somebody else and do that. whole thing. We just know that he was. jacked up. And how could you not be? He. had chills. >> Yeah. >> Big time. >> Yeah. Like Dwey goosebumps. How could. you not who also was slimmed down. >> Yeah. Dwayne Johnson looking very thin. He he he looks like he's becoming like. uh an Iron Man type thing. He might be.
>> Hey Rock, whatever you're doing, you. look great, Paul. >> Might be doing might be working out. together. >> You look good. Maybe. Uh you talked. about the Alabama FSU game. You don't. know who's who. That's a good time to. talk about this. Go ahead, Ty. >> Yeah, Pate. Uh how how much do you think. Kaylin Dbor needs to be worried about. keeping his job this year? Right after. the game we saw that you know hey his. buyout $70 million. Are we looking at uh. you know hey Alabama needs to go to the. playoff this year or he's likely out or. how do you see this whole situation. panning out? >> I don't know if it's that. I just I.
don't know where we are with him. I mean. that's my national championship pick. You think Saturday was bad for Bama. Imagine picking them to win the title. and then that gets thrown in your face. I think um the new reality of college. football, okay, is for big-time. programs, Bama, Ohio State, Georgia, etc., you're used to there being a. really high floor. So, like the worst. case under Nick Sabin ever was going to. be nine wins. Kirby at Georgia, worst it. could ever get is like eight or nine. wins. That's what you think. That's not. the reality anymore. So, there you're. driving down the interstate still, same.
interstate, but there's no guard rails, there's no median. It's just edge of a. cliff both ways. Florida State found. this out last year, by the way, where if. if a tire falls off, there's no limit to. how bad it can get. Like, you think Bama. can't miss a bowl game? They absolutely. could miss a bowl game or he could get. the ship rided. But your question is, does he need to be worried about his. job, dude? He needs to be worried about. the competitive character of his team. There's a big difference in I mean, Arch. Manning a little inaccurate, or you. know, your guys miss assignments, they. drop balls, like the fundamental.
competitive character being called into. question. running backs stoning your. linebackers and basic run fits. Can't. shed that stuff. Uh turning down blocks. in some cases, dropping balls left and. right, not because you just misjudged. it, but because you maybe turned it down. over the middle of the field. That's. like non-negotiable stuff. That's stuff. you took for granted under Nick Sabin. It's stuff I take for granted, frankly, as a viewer from every major program. So, that stuff if it doesn't get. corrected, I don't even know what the. answer. Like $70 million is not even a.
real number to me. That's monopoly. money. I don't I don't know what the. answer there is. I just know that that. high floor is not in existence anymore. So there's no limit to how bad it can. get if that stuff doesn't get corrected. You you don't look down the road to. Georgia. You don't look past this. Saturday. I don't care if you're favored. by five touchdowns. You don't look past. the next opponent. And we've just been. so accustomed to being able to do that. with these big time programs. I don't. know that you can do that right now. Josh, I don't know if you saw obviously.
the pictures of coach Sabin's office and. then Kalin's office obviously. drastically different and then Kaylin. the way he goes about doing stuff versus. how saving goes about doing stuff. multiple different ways of doing things. you know like there's a lot of that that. had to happen and following coach saving. in Alabama would be a. >> be like trying to follow coach Corso on. college gambling that would be a very. that'd be a very very difficult task I I. think with all parties let alone the. fact Dabin still lives there, still has. an office in the building and obviously.
is still very prevalent in college. football world because he is great on. television on college game day. So. everything he's saying on college game. day, Alabama fans are like, "Yep, that's. what's being said hopefully to the boys. That's what's being said right now cuz. that's what it has been." But what Kalin. Dbor is doing is trying to build his own. legacy at Alabama. And he's going to be. compared to this guy who is not a This. guy is out of some never ever land. This. guy unbelievable comp competitive.
stamina and an incredible ability to. lead, adapt, evolve, listen, let alone. gut decisions. Just in the moment being. able to make a decision that nobody else. I'm going to Yeah, I'm changing. quarterbacks. Halftime national. championship actually. Bang. put another. guy in here multiple times. I'm gonna do. that actually. And then let alone who. goes where, how he recruited, it's like. Kalin had a very tall task of becoming. an SEC coach to begin with. Okay, that's. tough tough conference from Washington. coming in there. But then to follow the.
guy actually and then now he is the guy. on TV for college football. Seemingly an. impossible job. Is he going to be able. to He's had success when he was a D3. coach. Had success. Indiana had success. Washington has success. We assume he's. going to win, but is that just is that. the right assumption, I guess, would be. the question for you. Who's kind of down. in the middle of it all down there in. the South? >> I had the same assumption. I still think. the dude's a stunt. Like, I think he's a. winner. I I mean, I've I've sat in that.
renovated office and point blank asked. him, "Taking over for a legend." Not the. stuff you say on TV. Like, we're off the. record. Just shoot with me. That guy's. got a lot of intensity. He's got the. right mentality. Like, the right. mentality is this. All right. in college. football, in sports for a long time, that thing you just said has existed. 99enters out there say, "Boy, you don't. want to take over for a legend." Well, 99enters aren't qualified for the. Alabama job anyway. So, by default, you. have to be a 1enter. You have to be. different. You have to mentally be wired.
a little different. He is. The big. secret in college football has always. been, yeah, you don't want to take over. for a legend because of the situation. the legend left. uh PNO at Penn State, forget about the off-the- field stuff, just him on the field. Yeah, he was a. legendary coach, but the program had. waned by the time he stepped away. So, if you took the Penn State job, if you. took FSU post Bowen, you were taking. sky-high expectations with a rebuild on. your hands. Sabin's last game at Alabama. was a playoff game. So, he left a pretty. full cupboard. He left a really good.
situation. So, guys like Dbor look at it. and say, "Well, I mean, forget about the. expectations. Forget about people saying. take over for a legend this and that. I. think I'm really good, too." And so I. look in the mirror, I think if I'm given. the right resources, I can build my own. legacy. And I think he Yeah, he may have. taken a dive into the SEC waters and. realized, boy, there's something beneath. those shark fins. Like, yeah, there's. there's a little something more to this. conference than I thought there was. But. more so than that, dude, Pat, it if. you're just getting out executed, if. you're getting beat by three at the gun, that happened to Sabin occasionally.
It's not that. It's the non-negotiable. stuff. He didn't have to question this. at Washington. you didn't have to. question toughness about his Washington. teams. Um, so that's what I wonder. about. That's why it's such a mystery to. me. I went and watched him scrimmage. twice. I went and watched him in spring. I watched him a couple of weeks ago. I. had no inclination that that FSU result. was even possible. It it was. >> maybe just bad day. Rain was hard. You. know, Tom Seagora, Bert Chryser were out. there shirtless. >> You know, maybe it's just a bad night.
Maybe just laid an egg on opening night. Maybe they just didn't have energy on. opening night. Maybe they just didn't. have maximum focus on opening night. Maybe maybe that's just what it is. Maybe this is the one game breakfast. ball. >> Yeah, breakfast ball. >> Maybe they need a breakfast ball. Should. we Should we give up on Alabama or No. >> No, I'm not going to give up on them. But look, hey, God gives us 11 more. games. So, if you're right, >> you'll see it. Like, they got they got. Wisconsin coming in. They go to Georgia. in less than a month. So, I if that's. just a oneoff, which I have suspicions. about, but let's just grant the floor to.
you. It is your show. If it's a one-off, we're going to find out. Really? really. quickly. >> I don't think it's a one-off. I am just. living in hypotheticals. >> I did not like what I saw either. And I. don't think that's just something you. can fix, which is why I say some things. about some players in the NFL and people. get mad at me for pointing out the. obvious and then they say still can. change. It's like I don't know. That. feels like something that you either got. or you don't. But if the team can flip. the script after getting embarrassed by. Florida State, who might be all the way. back, maybe Kaylin Dbor makes his own.
legacy diner. Maybe maybe he's got a. Dbor Street diner. >> That'd be cool. >> Maybe he's the goat diner. >> The Boulevard. >> Yeah, maybe it is the Boulevard. >> Right down Kalin the Boulevard right. here. >> Yeah, that would be great. Kalin D. Boulevard. >> Boom. >> Yeah, that is a great street name. I. mean, that would be fantastic. Let's go. back to the Big 10. You talk about the. SEC, how there might be some things. underneath the Shark Gills. You know, obviously in the South, very competitive. for every recruit. A lot of recruits. from the South. We understand that the. North has the national championships and. the North has a lot of money. Let's go.
to a school that seemingly has more than. anybody could imagine or anybody. actually gives him credit for. Go ahead, AJ. >> Yeah, Josh. Uh Penn State obviously. feels like they're all in. Everyone's. talking about him. Everything they're. doing, the resources, whatever, everything about it. Is James Franklin. Is this the year he finds a way to go. and win those those big prime time. matchups, I guess, that we've seen him. kind of fall short in the past? >> It's the year he better do it. That's a. weird kind of pressure, by the way. They're two kind of pressure. >> Or what? He's not They're not going to. fire those, right? No, I'm saying it.
doesn't, right? >> It's a totally different kind of. pressure. There's there's the job. security pressure, which is win or. you're fired. Then there's just flatout. competitive pressure of I could be the. Penn State coach for the next 30 years. I won't be able to win championships all. those 30 years. This is a year I could. win a championship and I don't know when. it's going to come around again. Maybe. I'm wrong, man. Maybe they could do it. every year. But I do view this as sort. of a window year. Look, they're. embracing it. They're they're all in on. it. We went up there a couple of weeks. ago. They are not shying away from that. at all. They went and hit the portal for. receivers, which and I agree with them.
on this, they thought was the one. missing link between them and being. dynamic enough to make plays like Miami. did last night. Just a few plays, 50/50. balls turn into 7030 balls, you win 2317. on the road in Columbus one of these. times. Um, I think they have the pieces. They're smart, by the way. While all the. rest of these folks had bullets flying. left and right, they're up there playing. Nevada favored by five touchdowns. They. got a couple of They got a couple of. tuneups. Then they got a by-week. Then.
they got Oregon coming in there. >> Got a preseason, boys. That's smart. >> That almost makes that you got to win. that game. It's the Ohio State game down. the road and you're going to go to the. playoff no matter what. I have no idea. how Penn State misses the playoff, but. there's like two hurdles he's got to. clear. One of them is winning those big. games. The other one is at least getting. to the national title game. And at that. point, you got to win it. I don't know. But yeah, I do think they got the. mixture of talent to do it. I like Drew. Allard bouncing back and playing well. instead of crumbling, you know, like. that sucks that that's how his season. ended last year. And the biggest moment,
a lot of eyes, I forget what the ratings. were, but it was at least 13 14 million. people. >> watching him throw a terrible ball pick. this over. >> Yeah. I mean, that is they should have. won that. I mean, >> and then he's got to sit all off season. up there in Penn State walking around. going to class. >> Oh, there's a big tall [ __ ] in Los. >> You blew it. Thanks. >> You're working on your slain. He's. trying he's trying to go out and have a. drink at one of these restaurants. All. these restaurants are right on top of. each other. Obviously, Happy Valley. very, you know, kind of a smaller area. He gets out, just gets done having a. little bit maybe a sai bowl or something.
like that. Hey, why don't you stop. eating and go practice throwing a. football that's happening every day of. his life afterwards as somebody that can. speak kind of from experience and it's. like which way do you go? >> It's like if he steps up that's huge. There's a quarterback though for South. Carolina that every football team in. America is looking to get to him. I saw. a lot of NFL teams pulling for him. I. also saw some XFL teams pulling for him. I think even some G1 teams were trying. to get him to potentially lead the way. Go ahead, Conra. >> Yeah, Josh. And I can't believe you just. did the whole F1 thing. Uh that is not a.
real sport. We're never talking about. disrespectful. >> Uh Josh, >> who won? Who won? >> Oscar P. >> No one cares. Josh, let's talk about. football. Josh. Josh. Josh. Just me and. you here, bro. Um Lenor Sers, okay. On. uh Sunday kind of let off the entire. game against Virginia Tech. They walk. right down. He looks massive. He looks. fast. And he threw the ball about 100. yards to Nick Harbor in the air. Why. shouldn't I believe that Lenor Sers is. going to win the Heisman? And why isn't.
South Carolina being talked about as one. of these teams that is going to compete. for a national championship? I know. they're definitely being talked about as. a playoff team, but when we're talking. those, you know, top four teams, do you. see South Carolina making that run this. year? >> Yeah, they can. I mean, that's just. foreign language. People have this. preconceived notion in their mind, frankly, about a lot of programs that. they need to reprogram because the sport. has changed. And so when you get an. alien is your quarterback, you got. another one out wide, by the way. I. mean, when your fastest player on the.
field 6'5 235 and spells his name Nick. with a Y, you just need to pay attention. to him. So that guy has learned to catch. the football now, which was so funny. Like what what you asked the key about. Nick Harour at wide receiver. What does. he need to learn to do, dude? If he can. learn to catch, man, he's gonna be he's. gonna be nasty. Well, he can learn to. catch. all American track. >> Yeah, you got you got Lenor Sers who I. know a lot of people are doing the NFL. draft talk like I stick to college. football. I think he could be the best. player in college football. Um they may. have the best offensive and defensive. players respectively in the SEC. This is.
not Alabama or Georgia. This is the. University of South Carolina that we're. talking about and they they knew they. had them. My only question throughout. spring is why didn't they go attack the. portal at wide receiver more? Like who. do they have behind Harvard? So to. answer your question, the thing that. would keep him from winning the Heisman. is supporting Cass. But as the deeper we. got into fall camp, all these people. from South Carolina, they kept telling. me, you watch out now, our wide receiver. rooms underrated. >> Week one, I don't necessarily know that. I saw that, but that's okay. It's week. one. If even a fraction of what they.
said is true, and that dude just is who. he is, you're looking at probably the. Heisman Trophy winner this year. And if. that's the case, uh you got you got a. ceiling on South Carolina that's way. like up here off the screen somewhere. Someone's gonna have to deal with them. If they don't win it, someone has to. have beaten them. And um this just crazy. we're talking about South Carolina like. this. They haven't hit their ceiling, by. the way. That was that was a week one. version of them. So there's probably. still some upward mobility with them as. well. And that's a place that's gotten. told forever. Those are players that got.
told we don't quite have room for you. here. So go to option B. Like South. Carolina was an option B for some of. these guys. Those defensive guys that. went in the draft last year, those. weren't all former fivestar top 10 guys. Those were other teams backup options. that Shane Beamer and his staff took, developed them, pumped them to the NFL, and now lo and behold, they've. backfilled, which you're not supposed to. be able to do at South Carolina, and. they they shut a fairly good, desperate. ACC team down week one. So now they dive. into conference play, and now now that's. just another of those teams, stack of.
pancakes, of these teams in the SEC. They may not be elite, but they're. really good and they're tough outs. >> Yeah. And all we're going to hear is you. SEC people talk about, "Oh, you're. telling me South Carolina, our sixth. best team, couldn't beat the sixth best. team in the Big 10. Is that what you're. saying? Why don't you come on down here. and play stoops at Kentucky at night?". Okay. Why don't we'll go to Northwestern. one of these games and then you guys. come down here to Kentucky one night. That's what we'll do. We'll play a fun. little game and that'll happen all year. But the South Carolina team, remember, end of the year, they had a little bit.
of a gripe to get in the playoffs. And. instead of making big noise, Shane. Beaver said, "We're focused on our bowl. game." They had all of everybody play in. the bowl game. It wasn't like they. weren't going to play. Shane Beamer, we. showed that the punt return there. It's. like they're always going to play Beamer. ball in all three phases, which you can. steal a win in college ball or you can. lose a game in college ball through. special teams. And it's like they're. going to be locked in there because they. have so many great athletes and the. state of South Carolina creates some. freaks whenever you talk about athletic.
ability. So, if Shane Beamer can become. the school of the Carolinas, especially. down there with in front of a great fan. base. When we were down there, I mean, it's hot as [ __ ] It It is It is thick. down there. It is very thick. Football, >> but it is a football [ __ ]. >> Yeah. >> Is a football town down there. I hope. they're able to pull it off. That moment. between Shane and Frank afterwards was. beautiful. All right, let's talk about. tonight's game. Obviously, week one. wraps up in Chapel. Bill, go ahead, Debb. >> Yeah, go up to North Carolina. Uh ex I. expect you know Bill Bichc team to be.
prepared. Uh what I don't know is who. these players are? I know 70 new. players, but what are the expectations. for this roster and can you tell me. something about some of these players on. this Chapel Bill roster and we'll see uh. Don that that uh baby blue tonight. >> All right, everyone check in here. This. is your North Carolina breakdown. >> Okay. >> I got no clue. I have no clue who any of. them are. I'm not sure that. >> new to ESPN. This is not what he's. normally like. He normally has all the. answers. All. >> he knows.
>> He norally has all the I want people to. know that that are watching for the. first time. Maybe not a lot of people. may be seeing Josh P for the first time. As you've seen thus far, has all the. answers. Very well verssed in all things. college ball. Now, when this pops up. here, one of the biggest conversations. of the week one season. >> Only game tonight. >> Only one on Monday Night Football here. Okay. He says, "Let me tell you, I got. nothing." I don't think anybody does. though, Josh. Ain't that kind of the. thing? That's Look, if I flashcarded. that roster in front of that coaching. staff, do you think even they're off all. those names? Absolutely not. Hey, TCU,
TCU is one of however many teams are in. the Big 12. Every one of them thinks. they can win that league. TCU is one of. them. They're they're one of these teams. that, you know, like the sneaky better. types out there that are getting down. legit money in May on team totals. They. were big on TCU and most people don't. know anything about them either. I. happen to know a little more about TCU. It's a perfect stage for them. It's. going to be all about Bill Bichc, all. about North Carolina. Like, this is the. one shot that a Big 12 team gets on a. real real premier eyes of the world.
stage on it. And they I North Carolina's. such an enigma. But yet, I watched Matt. Patricia do what he did the other night. So, it's not like I'm sitting here dumb. enough to say, "Oh, I don't know Bichc. I don't know if he can coach these. college kids." I just don't know the. caliber kid he has. Patricia's got. freaks everywhere. I don't know that. Bill Bich necessarily is dealing with. that in year one at North Carolina. >> All right. Well, we'll watch tonight. part of the kickoff show. Can't wait to. get down there. >> We'll all find out. >> We will all find out. >> and we will judge accordingly. >> Is Ernie down there? >> What? >> I don't know. I hope so. Night one.
Ernie will be down there. >> He'll be He'll be Der. >> I think Lombardi and Ernie both on head. >> Yeah, for sure. >> Up in. >> It'll be good to see though. >> In a blimp, maybe. >> Hey, did you see that cow kit? He's the. one. >> Saga. >> It's tough to pronounce. >> Saga. Yeah, it's tough for me. He's good. though. Everybody was good. >> They all keep saying They all keep. saying the cow kid and I kept saying, "No, if you're so high on him, say his. name." No, no, no, no, no. Just the cow. kid. That's all you need to know. This.
cow kids dominate. I uh He was the talk. of the late night. He was the talk of. the late night for sure. >> Very late. He wasn't the only one. Did. you see Dan Beer for Utah, too? He went. for 19 rushing touchdowns last year with. New Mexico. >> Y'all are doing Are y'all going to. Oklahoma Saturday, right? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So that was the talk like you get. Matier and you get his offensive. coordinator and you package them up. Utah did the same thing. It was just. they went to New Mexico and got the. coordinator and the quarterback combo. and no one really paid attention to it. Utah looks like the best team in the Big.
12. Like they went out there and just. balled out. Everyone saw Whittingham. lose one year and they said, >> "Oh, he's done right as Harley off into. the sunset. Maybe he'll retire." And. he's like, "No, I think I'm going to. stick with it a few more years. I don't. really feel like retiring yet. I'm gonna. go get a coordinator and a quarterback. from New Mexico and I'm gonna be right. back in the picture. And they are. >> Yeah. I mean, they're in West Virginia's. conference, you know, and Arizona State. obviously has got to do what they got to. do. And let's not even talk about the. Cougs, which are right down the road. That's going to be quite a battle. But. he was awesome to watch. Where did it.
start? The Incarnate Word, right? Didn't. their OC and quarterback get hired. first? >> Yeah. And then uh I believe where did. they go? >> Was that Washington State with Cam? watch the date and then yeah they went. down there and then last year with Diego. Pavia that worked out really well for. Vandy. Um it's happened who did UTSA. bring someone up to Oregon too or was it. >> NIL but for the OC as well. >> It's genius. >> Yes. >> Yeah. It's it's uh well look like you've. done a pretty good job Donner. Congratulations. >> Welcome to the big leagues. >> Come on up here. It's like what the.
Knicks were doing to everybody else in. the NBA but happening in big time. college ball versus smalltime college. teams. You got to watch yourself. You. can't even develop your coordinators too. good. I know. >> They'll be gone. I love this. You can't. let them talk. >> It's the best move in golf. >> Yeah. These things like to gossip. >> Yeah. These things like to gossip. These. things like to hang out. You can't let. them hang out. You got to keep them. isolated in their cage. >> Yeah. Yeah. Keep them away from each. other. Keep them in their cage. >> They'll start talking and they'll leave. you together. >> All right, Josh. We appreciate you, man. Congrats on the ESPN [ __ ] More of the. world needs to see you. You're good at. what you do and you obviously love. balls. So, we appreciate that. >> You know, I appreciate you, man.
Anytime. I appreciate you having me. >> Ladies and gentlemen, Josh P. Oh, >> if I was to flash card that roster to. those coaches, do you think they get it. right? That's a great call. Good. question. >> That's a great call. Bill Bichc just. calling numbers. He's number uh they. didn't even have. >> Yeah, right. I don't know. He was. wearing a different. >> That had to be something. Was that in. that article that eight scroller? >> I don't know. >> Uh that there there wasn't much about. that. No. >> Connor, what do you have to say here. about Joseé Quervo? >> Uh to be completely honest with you, I.
drank Joseé Quervo all weekend. It was. the greatest thing ever and I didn't. even get hung over. >> Well, Devil's Reserve is the perfect. drink for when mischief is on the menu. >> Amen. >> It's time to listen to a little devil on. your shoulder. Pour around shots. Get. ready to raise a little hell. >> Yeah. Right. >> Let's go. >> This is This is my first time. >> Okay. >> This is my first time reading. I feel. like I feel like uh an Ron Burgundy. right now reading this. >> Don't read anything on the toe. >> But remember, you must be 21 years and.
over. Please drink responsibly. So, it. says a Quervo uh Quervo. Devil's Reserve. A sweet tropical spicy. infused tequila that is smooth and. devilishly good. >> Hell yeah. >> Devil's Reserve. Go to your local liquor. store. Go to quervo.com to purchase your. own bottle of mischief. >> Okay. >> I tell you what, they're sweet. >> Bottle of mischief. >> They're tropical. >> Raising hell. >> I was going to say that's an interesting. way to to. but I like it.
What's that? >> It's probably what they're serving at. Kennywood. >> Sweet drop. That last one's spicy. Yeah, Kennywood was a little spicy late night. I don't know if you saw that. It's all. over X. You just go ahead and type. Kennywood and then it'll pop up. A lot. of yers letting each other know that. they weren't happy about the disrespect. that you certainly should while we're on. ride for a [ __ ] race. >> I hope this doesn't ruin Fright Nights. cuz I'll be so mad. >> Yeah. When you went last year, right? >> Fright nights. Yeah, I go every year. >> Really? What's your favorite part? >> I go for my daughter every year. Yeah. Cool. >> You guys drive over there for it.
>> on like Friday or since it's in two. weeks. >> Well, there's actually about to be. potentially a direct flight. >> Is that right? >> Yeah. >> If we do recall. >> Yeah. I'm more worried about the one in. Nashville. >> Huh? >> Says who? >> Just know we know people. >> We're working on it so long. >> We know people. Um, ladies and. gentlemen, we didn't get to it earlier, but we got to get to it. We watched all. the games. You watch all the games this. weekend. H. We tried to. >> Yep. Oh, yeah. >> Watch all the world. Everything's going. on world. >> Yeah, there's a lot going on.
>> Yeah, we try to we try to watch it all. and we gathered up what we thought would. be the greatest. >> Jeez Louise. moment. of the weekend cuz we don't want to, you. know, just kind of handcuff oursel to. just one moment. Correct. >> So, if there's more than one moment, we'll do the moment. But if not, we'll just do the Jez Louise. moment of the weekend. Ladies and. gentlemen, let's dive right in. You. might have seen it. New Mexico guard. Richard Pierce, they call him Dick.
Pierce running away after starting a. little bit of a brawl with Michigan. You. see him in the middle of a bother. 78. Little late push after they push him. back. He goes, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. I. ain't doing that.". Stumbles, falls all over his face. Gets. the hell out of there. I appreciate it. He said, "I'm not fighting. I'm. fighting. I did one cheap shot after a. play. I'm not doing all the other. stuff." AJ, how do you feel about. Richard Pearson? Do you think the next. play or maybe the next play after that. or another time down the road today. earhole this guy? How would you have. reacted here? >> Yeah, I'm sure they tried. I mean, this.
is nice of you. You always get the flag. when you retaliate. So, if you're the. first person and then you let them. retaliate, hopefully they get the flag. and then returns and runs. That's the. best turn your I've never seen one turn. their back on. >> Hey, not a bad hip flip. No, not at all. >> Not a bad hip flip, Debbie. Debbut your. thoughts here. >> I mean, he got to pick him up, put him. down a little bit. He almost stumbled, but I mean, if you're going to do it, stand in there and take a push. You know. that get the get the penalty. You know, if you go on there, take the push. Turn. away to go. >> Did you hear what he said as he turned. around? He said, "Geez." Oh.
Let's go to the next one here. Brian. Kelly did a back bump and a full roll. getting trucked by a ref. Smacks his. head off the ground, loses his headset. Wants to chew out the ref. Then he. quickly realizes he's in the wrong. I'm. not supposed to be standing in white. Ref. Not throwing a flag on him. Very. cool of the ref. I think the ref saw. Brian Kelly's face tumbling around and. said he suffered enough. We don't need. to give another 15. Our source says have. told us that Brian Kelly went in for an. MRI this morning.
>> Really? >> Real talk. Real source. Tease in peace. Brian Kelly. Congrats on a win. We hope. you're okay. In our last Jez. of the weekend comes from a duck. >> Oh no. a mascot. Montana State taking on. Oregon before he even gets on the air. Oregon Duck face plants loses his head. and everybody loses their [ __ ] Now, there was an alternate angle from the. backside here. What do you think? Work. >> it's close. >> I don't think it's I don't think it's a.
work. >> He cares too much. >> Full panic afterwards. We hope he's. okay. Some would say it's a bad omen. The Oregon Ducks football team didn't. even know it happened. Nope. Steam. rolled. Kept it moving. Clipped to that. thing. >> And that's all. You would think they. would. Yeah, seems like maybe it was. No. Jeez Louise. Moment. of the weekend. We continue on digital, but not for long because we got to hit. the road to get down to North Carolina. Have a great happy uh and happy Labor. Day. Be a friend. Tell a friend. something nice. Might change your life. We'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye.
Um yeah, we got to get down to Chapel. Hill pretty soon. >> Chapel Bill, if you will. >> You have Michael Jordan on the show. >> Um he's going to be on ESPN tonight, I. guess. That was a good idea. AJ, >> we're in the We're watching We get to. watch in the box with Blombo, right? >> Yeah. Do we get a headset? I don't know. Thinking, right? I'm wondering. >> I'm assuming you guys might get a. couple. Hey, let's try the uh 70 power. here. >> Well, we're calling plays. >> I'm thinking you're going to. >> remember this a Bellich check coach. team. >> He's tattooed on your arm still. >> I know. But the when I got this tattoo,
there's a lot of different things about. Bill that are true today. But again, I I. I do think to your. >> point that's pretty sweet, tropical, and. spicy of me to say. >> Amen. And the times with Bill were. sweet, tropical, and spicy, baby. But. no, I do think. >> there is a massive chance that. >> you know this this run mobile. quarterback Bill's got. >> Lopez. >> They're going to be doing some crazy. [ __ ] with this [ __ ] guy cuz Bill's. always wanted a mobile quarterback. >> Yeah. I mean, they had Cam Newton. A lot.
of people were saying we're watching. back what he did with Cam. Cam, I think. would even admit that wasn't the foolish. super Cam. Cam was a superman on the. field, dude. >> I watch some of these guys and obviously. everybody wants to compare everybody. Josh Allen, as you should. Josh Allen, unbelievable football player as well. Cam Newton was just he was a defensive. end. >> Like Josh, not Josh Allen isn't very. tall and very athletic and very strong. and everything like that. Cam Newton was. a D end clearly that his body was made. to be a defensive end and he just so. happened to also be the fastest. defensive end that was ever. And uh it's.
just and oh yeah, he can dissect a. defense and he has a work ethic and he's. a phenomenal leader. >> and it's like. >> me and Venitary he walked by us. preseason I think it was preseason or. early in season he walked by us rookie. year and we'd both just say if that. [ __ ] guy can figure out football we. are done. >> He's one of those guys. >> we are absolutely done and he did. He. did figure it out. >> He's one of those guys that's a big guy. that when stands next to other big guys. looks bigger than those big guys. >> Yep. >> Yeah. People are talking about him like. he's not who he is right now though too.
There's a lot of things being said about. Cam and it's like. >> I want an MVP. >> You ever see him in real life too? I. don't think you'd be saying as much as. you're saying right now. I mean, everybody's doing this to Cam Newton. >> He gets you too. We've seen it at the. camps. >> Yeah. He's not scared. Throw down a. little bit. >> Yeah. No, it's. >> He's about it. >> Sellers, that was your big thing with. Sellers. Sellers were the big boys. >> Huge this weekend. >> If you're huge, I think that's why I. like Drew Aller so much. >> Mhm. >> Drew Will Howard. That's why I like Will. Howard so much. Especially whenever. you're talking about going from college. to NFL. Like I think you have to be big. Like Drew Brees, I Hey, Kyler Murray. These are anomalies. More power to you.
>> Yeah. These are incredible incredible uh. athletes and and players and everything. like that. But if you're big, you can. see first of all, which is a [ __ ]. pretty big massive thing, but you can. also absorb more and you're going to get. hit like in the NFL. Unless you're. Payton, Eli, Tom, who had an incredible. ability to, you know, literally. >> he's coming out. >> Nope. which not a lot of guys these days are. ever going to do because the mobile. quarterback is such a thing. It's like.
yeah, what Cam was was he was special, man. He he was special. >> That's a great point about the NFL now, though. We we don't get any more of the. like cool like ball snapped, DN wins, quarterback instead of throwing it away. or trying to run away just goes down. into a ball like that. That. >> they literally looked like they were. screaming. >> Yeah, >> that error is done. >> Johnny Johnny Hecker had one of those. the punter, I forget who, he pushed. somebody. He was punting, he was jogging. back field, then he pushed somebody.
Remember that Elvis? >> That person came running back and he. >> the fool. You could hear through the. video. >> I was like, man, I would have done the. same thing. I would have I mean, you. chose to push him. You set you set that. up there. I don't know if that would. have been the play. And as soon as you. pushed that guy, eyes are not leaving. him. >> No, like that is that is not. >> It was Cliffh. It was pretty good. >> Cliff Favor. Yeah. Okay. Pretty good. Pretty good. >> A dog, too. >> Pretty strong. Yeah. And uh All right, let's go wrap up college football. tonight. AJ, congrats to your Buckeyes,
dude. That was cool seeing over there. >> It was Hey, I it was a great atmosphere. I don't know how you felt, but yeah, like it was it was awesome. The the Lee. Corso thing, like I'm glad it worked out. how it did. I really I didn't know how. how well it would. >> Shout out to the production crew that. built a second desk and then also on. wheels, moved it, and had the tech work. >> Think of the pressure on them. Like if. you think about the to move the whole. set and then to get it all to work too. Like there is no time to waste. >> Well then your band soon as that Corso. um tribute is over. They're doing the.
old script Ohio and it's like they. literally have no idea what's happening. on earth other than what's two inches in. front of their face. They are just. watching each other. And the only reason. why I know that is because they were. like kind of kind of if you had to go up. a hill on a bicycle which you would do. like kind of back back and forth I guess. to kind of do this. and they were making. their way to us and coach Corso was. getting off the stage at the time and. I'm like, "Holy shit." Like, "This is a". Because they said immediately. afterwards, "The band's coming and they. need the whole field. You guys got a.
little bit of time, but you need to get. out of the way." That was like a big. message as we're leaving a production. meeting. And then as we're getting off, everybody's bullshitting because it was. so cool. What a moment. Ah, we're taking. pictures. Go go go that delayed to. getting off the stage. It delayed to. getting off the stage. So now we had a. short amount of time. It got shortened. even more by the [ __ ] of everybody. being so happy that it worked. And then. I I get off and I see that band coming. and I see Coach Corso literally just. like kind of starting to get off the. stage. I'm like, "Holy [ __ ] how's this. going to work?" You know, like is the.
Ohio the Tiddle going to stop? >> Yeah. What we learned about band members. this weekend, they they get out of their. way. >> Oh yeah. Talking about. >> they got somewhere to get out of their. way. Coach, you too. Get out of. >> tuba guy. >> Get out of your way. >> The band's a real deal. >> Dogs. >> West Virginia has a good band. I'll. never forget I was flying back from the. Fiesta Bowl. >> cuz you get a I forget the amount of. money you get per mile if you drove. We. played in Arizona. So, I drove back.
home. Of course. >> It's a good gimmick. >> Great gim. >> Holy [ __ ]. >> That sucks. >> No, you take the money and you buy a. plane ticket, the cheapest plane ticket, and you fly back. Yeah. So you get like. 1,800 bucks. You pay a $300 ticket, $250. ticket. Now all of a sudden we got 1,500. extra bucks. You have the game now. >> Yeah, we're going downtown. Yeah, that. was the game. Okay. >> Yeah. We're driving back. They're going. to pay us for every single mile. I have. fear of planes, whatever the [ __ ] it is. Who knows? And uh I get on the plane and. I'm in the back and I look like a. standard white, you know, just pretty.
casual standard. I think at that time a. lot of people knew he wanted to kill me, but not everybody kind of knew me at. that time. And I'm sitting next to a. West Virginia fan and there's a couple. football players scattered throughout. I. mean, we all kind of did the game, you. know. And uh I asked the lady, I said, "Uh, were you out here for the Fiesta. Bowl?" And she goes, "Yeah." I go, "Well, how'd it go?" You know, and she. was like, "The band did amazing." Uh, the band absolutely crushed it. And then. she said, "And the team won, so that was. good." And I was like, "That's awesome.". Like I obviously uh family member of.
band. And it was like literally go to. the game. >> How' the band do it? [ __ ] murdered it. halftime. No flubs. Kept it moving. Crushed it. And then I was like, that. was really cool to hear because I think. you do and you should uh think of that. of like every performance should be our. greatest and we should steal the show. And I think there's some bands you. watch, it's like the mo these. [ __ ] are it's like the tobido. is definitely everybody's locked in. It's no doubt about it. Big production. them spelling out corso straight in the. I mean it's like the amount of.
the amount of this [ __ ] that they're. doing. They used to practice um I think. it was Plum High School they did on a. soccer field. They practice on a soccer. field. >> Yeah. >> And it just became trenches. >> Mhm. >> Cuz they they like I think our entire. practice field just got ruined. >> Just completely ruined. And it was like. we didn't think this through. I guess. cuz they were practicing on a parking. lot. It was too hot. >> So they gave him a practice field to. march on and by like a weekend it was. just [ __ ] literally just. >> paths. >> We don't even we have a corn field here. Basically we should put some seat. because of how like militant.
>> They eventually were able to practice on. the football field. >> Oh, you guys were kicking them off. Huh? That's why I came. >> We practiced. I don't know what to tell. you. We did too. We were running over, >> you know what I mean? The ball's rolling. on the ground. The ball's rolling on the. ground. >> Speed bumps. >> It's like, oh [ __ ] are they [ __ ]. drawing a goddamn horse or what? What? You know, it was a whole It's pretty. impressive. That is high school, so I. got respect for the band. Also, if. they're going to throw some rights. >> Mhm. >> I like that. Need more of that. >> I like it if we're fighting out there.
All right, let's get down to UNCC. Let's. wrap up week one. I think Ree Davis and. Herb Shooter are on the call. >> Yep. Mhm. Nice. That'll be a good call. Me I think Saving gonna be down there. Dez's gonna be down there. >> Got all those. >> I wonder who's hosting. Yeah, I don't. know. >> Is the other guy going to be there? >> I assume. >> He better be. I'll be on the other. channel. >> Hey, will you FaceTime him real quick? Will you FaceTime Steve? >> The other guy. >> here. I'll FaceTime him. Just see what. I'm walking into down here at least.
>> Hey, who's all down here, Steve? >> Otter guy hosting you. He better have a. UNCC polo on. >> Florida State on. >> if he don't. >> We're live. We're live. We're live. >> You're live. I was just watching you. >> Yeah, we're live. We're live. We're. still live, though. People are watching. Not on ESPN 2 anymore. Are you down in. North Carolina or No. >> Yeah. Yeah, I'm down here. I'll see you. tonight, buddy. >> Who's hosting? Is Ree host? How's that. going? Are you hosting? >> Uh, I was going to host, but I think. Matt Barry's here. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Sick. Sick. Sick. All.
right. I'll see you down there in a. little bit. I'm about to hop on a plane. All six teams that play in those top 10. matchups are still going to make the. playoff. >> Love it. >> Hey, the winners and. >> the guys. >> All right, we'll see. We'll see. We'll. see. We'll see. We'll see. All right. Sick. Okay, cool. Matt Barry. >> There you go. Guy. >> Oh, I cannot wait. >> Other guy would have been great though. >> Yeah. >> I mean, Matt Barry, this is my first. time working live with Matt Barry, right? >> Yes. >> Matt Barry. >> I watch him in TGL. >> Yeah, TGL. What does he. >> Oh, have you seen the European team?
Rder Cup. They're ass. Thanks. >> They are, but I just want to know if you. seen them. >> Are they good? Are they. >> They got a pretty good squad. They're. pretty good. >> They got a pretty good squad. Yeah. >> Yeah. But they left off the guy that. cares the most. You see the guy on the. DP World Tour interview? >> I think his name's I want to say Matt. Wallace. >> and he gave an interview and I don't. think I've ever seen someone uh that. emotional about not making. >> William Wallace's boy is going to have. energy. >> Exactly. >> Yeah. I mean that is certainly going to. be a thing. >> After watching the interview, I thought, "Oh, okay. So, USA is going to win cuz.
they love this [ __ ] guy off the team. and this [ __ ] guy wants to win more. than anybody. >> You You saw the European team and got a. little nervous. >> No, I didn't get nervous. It was just, you know, just saw the names, the. players, the Zoom calls. Uh, that was. funny to see. >> They're a deep team. Yeah. >> Their team on the Zoom call and our. team. >> Which team did you like more? >> Uh, our team had their game faces on. So, I I'll go. >> The Europeans much more entertaining. I. a little. >> Which is why they called us up for World. War I and two. >> Yeah. And also, I assume their continent. togetherness isn't as good as a.
country's. >> No doubt. >> You know, they just feel like they're. taking on us. We feel like we're. fighting the world. >> Yeah. >> No one says for God and continent. >> Good point. >> Great. God and country, brother. >> Be a friend. Tell a friend something. nice. It might change your life. We're. in this thing together. We're heading. down to North Carolina. Should be a. blast. Team on me. Team on three. One, two, three. Team. Goodbye.
