sport sport sport sport sport sport. hello beautiful people and Welcome to. our humble Leone the. thunderone on this BMF Monday April 15th. 2024 this sports program starts. now sports are wonderful what an. incredible weekend we obviously had a. 4-day weekend because we took off. Thursday and Friday to watch the masters. of golf coverage which is happening on. ESPN into CBS and ESPN plus we're.

certainly going to talk about that the. NBA playoff picture has come into attack. we're certainly going to talk about that. there's NFL news happening all around. the league as otaa start for teams who. have the same head coach that they had. last year on this particular beautiful. day and I got news for you an iasa. tripping hippie quarterback is in the. building in New Jersey for the New York. Jets there's also maybe a Tom Brady. coming back to the NFL convo after well. yeah he's talking to a barber and uh. that that kind of popped out of there. and then there's MLB talk because.

baseball is taking place in the time. frame in which we're talking about. sports right now jet passing will join. us in the second hour he won a piece of. Medal this weekend congratulations to. him CC Sabathia will join us in the. third hour and ladies and gentlemen we. have the BMF title holder for the UFC. blessed man himself Max Holloway joining. us in about 19 minutes or so fresh off. an electrifying knockout with 0.01. second left in the fifth round of a five.

round fight for the BMF title something. that was absolutely perfect for the UFC. and mixed martial arts it's a loaded day. and I'm incredibly lucky to be here the. toxic table is here at Boston Conor at. Canada a long time you know used to just. drive in you used to be able to just do. an ID for a weekend trip you're going to. do your thing uh coming back into. America was normally much more difficult. than getting into Canada but since it's. for work and I'm probably going to get. taxed my ass off going to need a. passport and get in there had no idea if.

my passport existed okay happy with. being in America where do you uh. vacation at America are you going to. leave anywhere maybe hopefully love. other countries just don't plan on going. anywhere for a while especially in the. middle of a run so that passport was. tucked away thought it was gone told. Michael Cole six days ago yeah I a that. passport is as good as gone be that. thing's Gone Gone P can't even get there. turns out Samantha McAfee was able to. find it which is an Incredible Gift uh. because getting a chance to go to. Montreal and experience a Canadian crowd. again can't wait for it yeah for sure I. mean unfortunately for that crowd you.

this Master's weekend I'll see how L I. can shoot today hey great transition. excited to see what you do on a golf. course at Butler birdies him and his. whole family play golf every day is. anybody. work I love I love what you guys are. doing good scheduling good absolutely. you got to get the time in I actually. put a tweet out while I was watching the. masters of golf I said I I yearn for a. day I don't think I use those words but. but you get it it's the same mess I. yearn for the chapter of life in which. it's just me and the kid their kids and.

the lads just golfing every day what a. perfect time what a perfect thing to. shoot for what a perfect thing to work. for it the Vibes are just Immaculate the. views phenomenal in your outside the. birds are chirping especially down in. Augusta National people are saying that. they were piping in. Birds people saying it's bird see that. you could see that cuz the birds are so. perfect had the dogs barking all damn. afternoon they thought a bird was in the. house cats were up on all fours doing. the cat Cow thing because they thought a.

bird had snuck into the crib and they. were about to go bat that thing down cuz. how good the chirps were sounding in the. house watched all weekend it was the. perfect background whenever I got to. hang out with the baby and the wife. you're on the phone do some craft you. got golf in the background you hear the. patrons lose their mind on the first. nine or the second nine whenever they. hit into sand Bonkers whatever the hell. they call it it was phenomenal but. nothing is as phenomenal as watching. Scotty Sheffer go let me tell you why. people say this guy's a wet.

blanket understandable it's true yeah. could see that description being. accurate people say this guy's a nerd. this guy is terrible for the face of. golf I say nay I agree yeah I say. absolutely not when you watch this. bearded bastard play golf and we don't. know if his wife has had the baby or all. but nonetheless congrats to the. entire he's won n attorney since 2022 in.

the PGA okay he's obviously won the. Masters and two of his five starts at. the Masters he is a guy though that. people whenever he talks they're not. entertained by I think he's man of the. Lord he obviously say he's doing this to. empower Jesus Christ he's going CRA me. pull me here which we respect and. appreciate but he's not about the Antics. on the golf course he's not going to. lose his mind he is going to swing out. of his shoes but once he starts going to. work it is mesmerizing it is Hypnotic so. for those of you that that don't think. he's the right guy to be the face of.

golf I don't think you watch him play. golf enough because when he has that. club in his hand and he's about 89 to 96. yards away on the ninth hole of the. master Sunday one in which the entire. course had been beating the [ __ ] out of. the rest of the golfers the wind's crazy. the greens are firm they're making this. like a US Open course well on Sunday the. leader said let me put this in now the. golf guards screwed them yes they did. yeah golf guards screwed I don't. appreciate the fact that that ball kind.

of rolls a different direction then you. think to yourself wellow that's just one. lucky shot from this guy he actually. said in a press conference I hadn't been. hitting my my irons that well then he. got a birdie on eight gets a birdie on. nine gets a birdie on 10 then he goes to. 14 this is after Max hom and mor CWA and. everybody kind of falls apart because. Augusta National had been getting. everybody maybe Sheffer will finally. look like a human playing golf uhuh I'm. rolling this thing from how far 100 what. that was 153 153 guards the 4 in on.

Master Sunday on whole 14 when everybody. else around him is crumbling this dude. howsit is he is locked in Jack locked in. job's not done yet no need to bring up. the wet blanket stuff which I think you. were just doing right there because once. again this bearded golfer doesn't need. to open his mouth ever again just play. golf Scotty here's 16 par three patrons. are filing in wow we're about to see a. second green jacket in five starts here. aren't we who maybe the 16th hole will.

get them a lot of water to the left. Scotty you slip out of your shoes and. hook one it's going to be a bad day. maybe ludvig obber can catch up Scotty. says sweet I'm gonna put this one to. eight feet and then I'm going Center cup. remember everybody's talking about my. putter not being as great as everybody. else is get off my ass says Scotty. Sheffer and obviously you got to finish. on the 18th hole and whenever you see. this man put the pudle way and he and.

his caddy Tim something who got a chance. to lead him out through the patrons cuz. his family wasn't there hug and embrace. I think there is a chance that right. here cadd says hey go tell that baby. that Daddy's a champion you know I think. there was a little bit of embrace. because you saw him get a little bit of. emotional and you saw hell you son of a. okay he has to be professional let me. tip the cap to the patrons but you. talked about emotion the robot the AI. the man who's in the zone when he's on. the golf course can't be showing emotion. on a four 14th hole 16th hole he shows.

his emotion after he's very kind you. should take off your hat when you talk. Scotty Sheffer pal but nonetheless look. at this right here right here do it yep. thank you oh yeah yeah yeah there we go. yeah that's all the emotion you need. that's all we need when the job is done. Scotty lost his mind when he was just. hours we think ahead of becoming a. father for the first time after. defeating a course that had defeated. everybody else he showcased his emotion. he showcased his happiness he showcased.

to the world that this man does. understand that what he's doing is. awesome and he's taking it in congrats. Scotty go that was fun to watch unreal. literally anybody that says he's not the. right guy like you're not watching gol. like you're not watching the golf you. you catch the highlights you catch the. press conference but you're not spending. all day Sunday watching I woke up with. Tiger and Neil Shipley on ESPN okay I. was watching that tiger obviously. unraveling had to make the so that sun.

Day red can make an appearance on Sunday. Annie also has 24 consecutive cuts which. is the most in history congrats to Tiger. it's an honor watching you. golfer but it did feel like it was a. proam almost it felt like it was a proam. with him and Neil Shi now that wouldn't. be the case just like what five years. ago six seven years ago with Tiger Woods. but now he's at the point of life I. think where he understands like hey this. is probably the biggest day of this. kid's life from in the caddy who's 20. years old who just so happened to go to. Central Catholic alongside in p. alongside Neil Shipley he's not even a.

real caddy no he's just kind hey you. want to come caddy for me down here he. ends up walking the course with tiger it. was like it was a beautiful weekend. thank you to the masters of golf for. putting it on and congrats to Scotty for. cementing himself as an absolute monster. in a machine potentially as John ROM of. live had to put the green jacket on PGA. tour's baby face Scotty Sheffer no. interaction between them whenever they. were in the uh cabin doing a. conversation afterwards nothing nothing. no not a one Neil Shipley was keeping an.

eye on on the play was and I think a. producer should have potentially told. him before he went live like hey P this. is real you don't need to see it you. know cuz Neil is a little bigger guy got. good hair probably wondering how oh my. God I don't know what he did but he's. guilty he's in there with n the only. thing he's guilty of is displaying the. fact that he has phenomenal Peri the. ability to get both eyes that far cuz. you got to remember his left eye right. now is doing nothing his left ey staring. at the other side of his nose exactly.

this is an all right right eyed job he's. trying to figure out whether or not he's. actually on TV with these guys so a. little media training probably as we go. forward but Neil Shipley hit some. beautiful shots cheeky shots alongside. Tiger Woods but I would say the Augusta. National folks got to be feeling as if. they put on an excellent weekend the. wind kicked ass the course kicked ass. and Scotty shefford did the entire. weekend no I agree with you 100% on. Scotty like cuz I mean tigy tiger sorry. TIG tiger was feisty when you tiger and. F see and you go tigy I don't I don't.

mind that he was little tigy was a. couple tigy shots he he had to go to. work for hours and hours and hours. Saturday night just to get out there on. Sunday okay so tiger did what he could. to to put on a face on Sunday um but. Scotty like he personally isn't as. feisty as as Rah or tiger or some of the. past champions have been have been but. his game like his game is like on 14. like when he when he hit he put it that. close from 153 out like all in my mind I. was like just Scotty you you dog you. okay like that's all like his game and.

the way he swings out of his shoes like. that is the feisty part of of Scotty's. game and just like on on nine the one. where you talked about the the golf Gods. from ' 89 out it would those that was. when they were all there was three at. the top that were seven under a piece so. like they they kept trying to answer and. then Scotty just put it on top of him. all day long and like that's how his. game speaks and then finally like it was. I don't know if it was relief or. whatever at the end when he did yell it. was like like that he is just a stone. cold assassin all day yes killer. whenever he hits you uh friend of mine.

somebody I know potentially birdie dine. mhm really potentially wow okay close. friend is it a close friend yeah real. Source very close to person also birdie. nine did not do it in the same fashion. but yeah not do the same fashion the. exactly didn't pull exact we both got. circle on and then we just well whoever. I'm talking about got circle on but. moved along but it's like debut this is. why you play the game yeah and I was. completely out on playing golf ever.

again remember that was just like a week. ago so that's you so the Masters I. watched the Masters for four straight. days I'm like that Sport's Awesome every. single shot is a new game it's a brand. new game and then you get to the green. it's a whole new sport and then you have. to go immediately from that to driver. and if you just so happen to miss you're. completely screwed Scotty didn't put. himself in a situation to gain four more. CWA yeah oh yeah put himself hom put him. in there uh 12 back to back par the.

person I know wow the person I know that. played uh austa National you play it two. times tough hole brutal thin green you. know not a big. Landing the guy I know actually bladed. it the second day okay and it hit the. mind in front and then actually that's. per yeah absolutely perfect that's what. you want to do yeah parar though you. know Miss cou parts from what I've been. told so whenever you see H get all. jacked up Y and how could you not did. you see that cow down there gorgeous. huge crowd not a phone in sight not a.

phone in sight and I understand that I'm. a human that is on my phone in our. business is on a lot of people's phone. obviously I've been a ex and Twitter. user more than. maybe. 99.9999999% of humans on Earth so I'm. not saying I'm not guilty of this myself. but I am at a stage of life now where I. am trying to just enjoy every moment now. I'm not saying this is brand new but. it's like in the moment I want to live. here I want my brain to remember what my.

brain remembers and if it's being. documented I'm going to try to find you. know try to find footage so that we can. have it or whatever and I can have it. but it's like I want to remember the. feeling whenever I'm here having this. moment and it's like Augusta National. forces that upon people and in droves. everybody still shows up lot of tippy. toes in the back if you zoom in lot of. tippy toes in I hats to yeah head TI. back like Drew Brees in the pocket a lot. of tippy toes you know a lot of that. potentially happening but yeah that was. a beautiful moment to watch crazy and it.

got me completely back into golf this. weekend I'm all the way back I'm like. you know what am I playing the American. Cent Championship last week no way in. hell am I wasting my life in doing it. I'm a terrible golf for four days my. toes bruised my feet get blistered I. suck it's not fun Sunday is the worst. day of anything I've ever been a part of. cuz I have to walk this seven mile. course and it means nothing means. absolutely nothing and then we're. waiting to get on a plane that is 5. hours.

it's just like everything about it sucks. you know but the setup is awesome yeah. sure the Vibes are Immaculate good. always the views are great breathaking. the people are fantastic and then you. watch the masters of golf and it's like. yeah this is Sport I want to keep. playing you've picked it up in dove in. completely but I will say with your. allegiance to one particular tour over. for another Liv got their asses beat. they Deb D Shambo is supposed to be the. guy top five and he's using IL legal. clubs too they were legal they got.

cleared and he jumped out to a hot start. obvious $10,000 Club 3D printed a little. lump it it was great man it was great to. see especially a new fan of the game to. see all the big time players playing in. uh the different story lines the live. guys a h possibly winning his first one. oberg is a dog you know him first ever. major you know Colin uh been uh been. paired up with Scotty to finish it off. but but Scotty I mean just a robot and. you know I give him [ __ ] about you know.

not being excited but my favorite. football player was like that Barry. Sanders um when it comes to running back. position Tim Duncan kind of similar so. if your game kind of speaks for yourself. uh it does maybe maybe the answer is an. alternate broadcast with you talking. over when he's hitting maybe you be his. alra e or something but uh he is a. phenomenal phenomenal golfer and you. mentioned it it was kind of back and. forth and I think on Sunday what do you. have seven eight bires on Sunday yeah. three straight 8 n 10 and I think seven. in total there was one hole that was a. three stroke swing y I think it was nine. it was yeah I think it was nine when.

ended up in the sand and then the job. that the Masters does like with the. coverage the the website the app the the. shots like that shot of Scotty that ball. rolling back like that slow motion view. like all of it is dope this is only my. second Masters watching it um I I'm. pissed off that I missed you know last. 38 in my years of life not not watching. this uh Master Sunday so I'm already. looking forward to the next one this was. dope and uh once again the golf word. they got to figure it out they got to. figure out how to get these two two. tours together and.

each tiger said that the meeting down to. Bahamas was positive he thinks all. parties left there with a much more uh. much better feeling of how everything is. going to go that was obviously Liv uh. meeting the yir yes leader of the PF Yep. mm which is the fund that Saudi Arabia. has for sports correct bottomless pit. basically that's what they said that's. what they told us they told us off the. Record and on the record they told us. remember Olive Garden used to have. bottomless soups and salads ex that's.

what they got but just with money I'm. like what's that they're like just just. just it's just money there well how many. are we talking they're like whatever. number you make. up start counting right now and then. we'll catch up with you three years from. now still yep still got it still got it. what kind of return are you looking for. on an investment well so I I think what. everybody's saying is and I guess CM. Punk kind of alluded to this with some. businesses that are being run by people. that have a lot of money mhm it's like.

it's not necessarily just looking to. make money it's like wanting to create. something awesome sure you know like. that is the thought of the person that. is with the money now do I believe that. Liv inevitably will make money off of. their investment yes Abol because I. think live sports and golf are only. going up and to the right just like. everything else but them pairing with. PGA would certainly help expedite the. entire return of uh investment for them. now I think the courses matter big time.

so like I think that's why like Augusta. National showing up in the way that it. did some people like look at this shot. you talk about the way they capture it. this is between two trees sweet there's. a birdie one of s he had on just right. there like just such a beautiful shot. such a wonderful shot nobody's really. acting like [ __ ] in the crowd no I. wonder why that is you get you get. kicked out you get you get thrown out. never can come back you get banned. banned there was a guy there was a guy. you're not all you're not allowed to run. on the course you know how some coures. oh yeah I saw that guy running the boy. did they get him and he's gone for Life.

see you think you can add you think both. feet can be off the ground at the same. time a chance absolutely not cuz that is. the Olympic rules for speed walking one. of your feet have to be on the ground at. all times so that's why the speed. walking method is what it is cuz when. you're running both feet in sky as. you're Galloping and leaping so they. reviewed the. footage that's son of a [ __ ] yep yep if. he had cleats on if he had golf cleats. on maybe skim the ground or whatever but. yeah he got out of there you're right I. completely forgot about that by the way.

though shout out to the trees for not. falling this year yep that was big and. shout out to the trees shaking Tiger. Wood's hand yeah that was cool that was. very cool and uh that's Vern lanquist. this photo just happens to be one of the. greatest he celebrated and is retiring. 40 years calling a master sh ver. obviously college football Happy Gilmore. you name it he's been in there and I. just thought immediately what I would. say if I could go shake a Tre hand I. drive an electric vehicle be the first. thing coming out of my mouth I mean just. let know I'm on your team from what I've. Been Told now allegedly there's kids. dying potentially to make the batteries.

but nonetheless saving the trees I've. toldly and I don't write or read books. either I don't like that they spend all. that paper on stuff so don't worry about. that I'm on your side is what I would. say great photo great weekend great. memories great tournament I think for. everybody down there in Augusta yeah not. to get lost too like the reason I wasn't. saying no they shouldn't you know merge. to live in PGA they have to do that but. as long as the beef stays cuz Windam. Clark after Thursday being like well you. know who knows cuz know the live guys. play 54 holes and this is a 72 hole.

course and then immediately shooting. like plus seven until Miss C over yeah. missed the cut yeah I mean like that. type of like that stuff for Windam of. course sucks he's going to figure it out. he's great but like that beef on tour I. think is incredible and like the majors. like their courses are awesome Liv needs. to do a $50 million major and have the. purse be that big first place gets 30. million like if their thing is the money. then they need to build their major to. make the purse the biggest in history. it's bigger than the FedEx Cup yeah make.

it 50 million make it 50 million. everybody showing up for that well. exactly what you can also put over a. course too because we were just talking. about the courses they got to start. selling the courses that they're playing. at because the course is the one playing. against everybody like Augusta National. beat everybody this week that was kind. of the big takeway the wind yeah the. wind helped Mother Nature came in and. helped but like Augusta National how was. playing it was difficult and it's like. all these legendary courses the PGA has. built up relationships with and a viewer. you know the course like I don't want to.

say I know Fire Thorn Go the whole 16 or. like lit storm or whatever the hell they. name all these damn uh holes and. everything but you at least know it and. you know what it is so whenever they. just drop into these cities on these. brand new courses everybody's like it's. hard to get credit to the court like I. well it's just like rolling fields and. Mar like I don't really know the course. I think they need to start putting over. the courses more as I watch this weekend. I thought of it for sure because I I. don't know about all the I mean debut. you know you've been to a couple of them. but it feels like most of these places. that they play at like while they are.

challenging courses like for the most. part they're kind of like Resort courses. you know it's like that every sing damn. near every stop on the PGA like there is. a course there that's very difficult. that's challenging that always. challenges some of the players and a lot. of people were saying and who knows if. it's true but they were like well maybe. that's part of the reason that by and. large lived didn't fairwell at Augusta. this year because these guys are used to. playing easier courses you know where. when they're they're the best in the. world obviously they can go out and. dominate these you know courses in Miami.

or wherever and then you get down to. Augusta it's like you you kind of miss. that when you're not on the PGA when. they have these very very difficult. courses that regular golfers would just. chop it up every single week and I think. you do miss a little bit of that because. they're just playing it kind of. whatever's available and what's. whatever's left over uh source is close. to somebody that played uh on Augusta. National 120 or something like that wow. 120 Bingo not lot of cheat or fluffer. roller no winner r was lot no no no it. it was no Mulligans got finish top 20.

what about it was about five six live. golfers in the top 20 Brooks had a I I. was excited to see Brooks kind of get. going Hatton was hilarious obviously. he's back in the same old tricks he's. the man he just can't help Bryson were. the ones that were in the top 10 yep how. about Zack Johnson that guy stinks yeah. so what's his deal I didn't know he won. the I forgot he won the Masters of golf. yeah I forgot cuz he told he he told a. story about sleeping in a green jacket. the 91 and everything like that and he. wore jeans I think on the live with.

Regis and uh uh Kelly and okay might. have been Ryan and Kelly at that point. rest in peace regun. love said hell of run he did he was on. TV more than any human in history Who. Wants To Be A Millionaire oh yeah he has. actual Guinness world record for most. amount of time on television y out of. any human in history wow Legend people. say I'm going for it but uh there's a. lot of me yeah well we just had a. conversation before I mean whoa whoa. whoa whoa now it's not the time it came.

Network now they're still going. obviously people watch them and uh that. show ended but Regis Regis is Legacy. will never die never even though we're. very grateful and appreciative this. weekend I don't know if you didn't seen. it what's that so you watched masters of. golf on Saturday yep and then UFC 300. started at like 6:30 yeah right on the. Monday it was perfect just as you know. it's nice to just have a nice day with. the baby in the house the wife in the.

house hang out have a good time with. Good Sports on all day it's like. whenever the NFL is in England yeah yeah. you wake up oh there's a game on this is. awesome what's next oh there's another. game on then what oh there's another. game one and then oh there's Prime oh my. God all day I have [ __ ] to watch yeah. even if the game stinks so so so what. who cares it's in the background I'm. enjoying it that's what Saturday was. got to watch master of golf and then UFC.

300 delivered UFC 300 was Banger after. Banger what after Banger what after. Banger what after Banger after Banger. after Banger and I think there's. probably four more fights that's. literally what it was and they were. billing it as the biggest card that UFC. has had in 300 events congratulations to. everybody over there from the fertitas. and obviously the sale to uh endeavor. and then TKO and Dana White guiding the.

like I've been training so long that I. felt like we just needed to be able to. move with some of these guys and and. even with my training Partners you know. like if we start going hard and they got. to give me a certain look and they they. start you know like even me if I got to. give a certain look for to someone and I. start getting beaten up and I know my. look is going to be better than the look. that I need to give I'm going to go to. that cuz no one likes to lose you know. what I mean at the end of the day so was. doing this sping where it's like speed. so these guys could could give me the. look that I needed but for Justin gatei.

going out and going doing too much stuff. but I just I just uh you know shared. that time with the people who dedicate. especially my wife you know I gota give. my wife I give her hell for freaking 12. weeks at a at 12 weeks at a time so she. I'm a lot to deal with brother so just. to be able to hang out with her is means. a lot how's your surfing speaking of. your wife can you I assume you can surf. because you're from Hawaii is that an. your spring games were they live though. was every I know our quarterbacks were. never live but I believe we tackled. everybody else when I played yeah we. were live and the vet the Vets played. too the upper classman played for the. you know quick not not the whole time. but we played for sure and definitely. full definitely tackle dude I I don't. remember the only thing I remember from. spring game is I was out there on the. field by myself punting to the returner. by himself and that's where the offense. started with the ball I'm like it's the. most Mickey Mouse it's the most Mickey. Mouse thing of all time and I think I. kicked for both teams maybe at one point. but everybody played that was the fun. part though picking the teams draft who. was going to be what was it scarlet and.

and red for you. guys yeah picking that team that draft. that was the probably best part about. the spring game I feel like spring. practice is a massive deal though. personally I think it's big in the NFL. as well because I think this is a good. camaraderie building you know I think. it's when you you meet people now is. everybody going to be on the team no but. at least you get a chance to kind of. feel people out see how they are how. they're going to be how about Aaron. Rogers back on campus for in New York. Jackson love it he came came bopping in. there day one of voluntary OTAs with his. Huga hat on Fresh Off an ey trip with uh.

Tai was referring to and he's right like. if you throw hard you are in much.

greater Peril of getting injured because. the force that is going through your. body and ultimately to the elner. collateral ligament in your elbow right. there uh it's that much greater and when. you have more Force it's really. difficult to stop injuries from. happening um there's also though and and. this is something that is near and dear. to me because I watch it uh and I hate. it uh the way that youth baseball is. played and the way that coaches and.

parents do not get in the way when kids. arms are being abused uh it's it's. embarrassing it's it's a real problem. for the sport and it's something that. major league baseball there needs to be. a top- down effort by MLB and by the. pitchers and by the Players Association. by everyone involved to suggest to youth. players ERS that they are modeling the. wrong Behavior here by chasing velocity. all the time you do not need to throw.

hard at a young age to be a really good. baseball player when you get older you. do not need to go out there in 8U and. nineu and 10U tournaments and throw 75. 80 90 pitches you don't need to do that. but because at that young age so many. teams are trying to chase wins in. trophies that in the grand scheme of. things are entirely inconsequential you. have this population of players that's. coming into the minor league system and.

ultimately to the big leagues already. broken and so this isn't something. that's just happening guys at the big. league level this is something that's. starting when they're children and it's. something that's been going on for a. couple of decades right now and. absolutely needs to change when did we. know that this was taking place like a. few years ago couple years ago like when. did I I I wrote I wrote a book on it. eight years ago I started reporting the. book on it 12 years ago so if you you. are pretty passionate there that makes. sense that was a very good speech there.

he's right I mean go like seriously go. read it I'm sorry to do the Shameless. plug there but everything I wrote eight. years ago holds true now when we were. young they had pitch counts like or. sorry like you couldn't throw over 30. pitches yeah pitch limits like is that. not a thing anymore jet no they have. pitch limits they just ignore them and. and yeah yeah it's a real issue they. have pitch limits they are ignored and. none of the adults in the room step up. and say that this is a problem and this. is pervasive in Youth Baseball there was.

a study guys that was done yeah but if. you went to plumbo Classic then you're. king forever changing yeah it is that. parking lot afterwards those parents are. having a good time that's never going to. be forgot about time how many throws 95. yeah proud of him too tired no he's good. he'll be n he's going tomorrow after we. got tomorrow we're over there there was. there was there was a study that was. done uh by an orthopedist uh in the. University of Wisconsin on uh it was a. thousand teams uh from 8U to 14U and.

they watched their pitch counts all. summer long you know thousands of games. more than 90% of the teams had. violations of what's called pitch smart. regulations which is a group of. limitations uh that was instituted by Dr. James Andrews and a bunch of other. prominent orthopedists more than a. decade ago the greatest culprit of these. pitch smart violations were U teams. meaning we are taking second graders in.

abusing their arms you want to talk. about a sport you system is completely. backward completely screwed up and needs. to be overhauled it's baseball and why. when we're seeing what we're seeing now. at the big league level like is it any. surprise no it's not so what is it AJ to. your point what is it it's coach pitch t. for what is it yeah t-ball then coach. pitch is probably first grade second. grade has got to be the first year. you're doing kid pitch and you're saying. they're they're trying to get these kids. to throw breaking balls and stuff at.

U you know it's interesting like if you. look at the the force data and we can do. you know 3d motion captured type stuff. to to see what kind of force is being uh. implemented onto the to the limbs of. these players if you look at the force. data uh throwing a curveball is not. necessarily worse for you than throwing. a fast that's kind of an old myth now if. you throw a curveball incorrectly yeah. it's going to screw up your arm but um. it's you know what it is is volume at.

that age it's volume and it's rest and. there are kids who are not getting. enough days off after they've thrown to. give their arms time to recover and it's. kids who are throwing too many pitches. because coaches want to go chase wins on. that particular day man that's a that's. a sad State of Affair uh I don't know if. they're going to be able to change that. because there's so many. they can't they can change that path. absolutely they can you just need. grown-ups who are trying to act in the. best interest of sport finding the right.

we did a whole thing on I stealing $16. million like humans we're talking about. humans are going to have to correct this. in a state of competition like that's. not. real I I think that if you have the. sorts of things in place for example um. you know there apps right now that all. teams use to track games and to track. pitch counts and stuff like that that. and if these apps can put something in. place that can refer back to previous. games and the the number of pitches that. kids were thrown if someone tries to.

come in all of a sudden the app flashes. a red sign that says no this kid's not. allowed to come in that's when the. parents can step up and do something. about it absolutely thank you P. appreciate that that would be awesome. yes that would be awesome it would be. incredible that would be so cool that. you just give a kid another jersey and. say oh it's not him he has plenty of arm. left yeah and people don't flub things. Evers kids mhm can you do that dance. again P well was it was a it's not a. dance. punch that's like whenever I'll get a uh.

I got a speeding ticket like three weeks. later cuz they they time me from one. thing to the next MH and then they and I. get a speak I'm like what do we that. feels like ENT trapment outside. limitation you didn't beat me yeah. that's [ __ ] I was I'm in your state. in a renal car none of you caught me but. you're p okay okay that sounds fake that. sounds wrong but that would be a good. play for these kids go back and then the. punishment is potentially there so it's.

question for you jack yeah speaking of. adults uh making correct decisions for. the best interest of the game 77 years. ago uh Jackie Robinson broke the. colorberry I was re reminded today of my. favorite uh pitcher life uh kid pitcher. dant TR Willis um uh is there anything. else that they do around the league. outside of everybody wearing 42 is there. any other initiatives that the MLB is. doing uh I know you've been covering for. you know a couple decades. now um not enough like that that's the. reality if you look at the black player.

population in baseball it has gotten. lower and lower and lower and you know. there are a number of reasons for that. um MLB has tried through Reviving. baseball in the inner cities the RBI. program um it's built in I think a. little more than a half dozen cities. Urban youthmy that uh are there to. provide fields and equipment. uh for for players in cities but the. truth is Darius baseball just doesn't. sell itself well enough I think to black.

youth uh it is not a cool game and when. you have the NFL there when you have the. NBA and when you have the stars and when. you have the ability to go and play. basketball with something as simple as. finding a hoop and having ball and just. going out and having a run when you can. grab a football and you know you can. play seven on seven you can play 11 on. 11 you don't need helmets you don't need. pads you can just go play with your. friends with baseball uh you need a bat.

and bats are pretty expensive and you. need a glove and gloves are pretty. expensive and you need a field and. baseball fields are not getting. maintained the same way that they used. to uh all of those things I feel like. have contributed to the situation now. and and there are plenty of really good. young black baseball players get me. wrong I think that the initiatives have. helped a little bit but baseball's just. facing uh it's facing that situation.

where I I don't think selling the sport. has been as effective as it needs to be. to bring everyone in and to convince. communities that baseball is a game that. you want to play got it um what is the. percentage of the league do we know like. Latin right feels like that's yeah. that's that would be my first guest the. highest and you talk about like not. being able to afford stuff it's like. some of like baseball is huge in a lot. of countries right that got a lot of. programs and.

likey yeah huge deal right you know you. know what baseball is in America though. baseball in America is a country club. sport yeah is that who those are bats. bats bats cost five like good bats if. you're playing High Level Baseball good. metal bats cost $500 good gloves cost. $500 travel ball travel ball what you're. doing in the summer is, of dollars to. join a competitive team got it like it's. it is not insignificant money and so uh. you know so the N up being a lot of a.

lot of well-off kids who are the ones. playing baseball so in the NFL a lot of. whites that make it are wealthy wealthy. whites because they've been around you. know a long time you're saying the same. thing for baseball 100% yeah I mean the. the Train the training that Elite. baseball players have now you know like. they're going into these warehouses that. have really good coaches and having. private lessons and that you know that's. the sort of thing you need access to to. gym equipment and to strength training.

programs it's it honestly there's a lot. of that in Youth Sports period these. days I think like the wealth Gap is a. real thing and and it's why kids who are. growing up economically disadvantaged. still making it like I have the utmost. respect for because uh they don't have. access to the things that so many kids. do uh at the upper levels of income. shout out to grd iron gang Robert. MLB and obviously you're MLB Legend and. pitcher stut like is this a conversation. that's taking place about the youth. leagues and is jet passing right about. that with these elbow injuries we're. kind of seeing right now happen around. the MLB to stud pitchers yeah I mean if. you look at the the way these guys come. into the league I mean they're all. coming in with a surgery or two already. you know um and it's because of you know. they're they're playing baseball year. round where you know you just mentioned. you know some of us in this this older. generation you know when it was football.

season I was playing football when it. was basketball season I was playing. basketball and you know I I also played. other position besides pitching like I. was a hitter I played first base I. played Outfield so it wasn't just. pitching from the time I was 9 years old. until the time I got to the big league. so I think you you know with this rash. of injuries that you're seeing it has a. lot to do with these guys being pitchers. only from the time that they're you know. pre-teens until the you know till they. get to the big lead you only got so many. throws in your arm before you're going. to have to have surgery it's an. unnatural Mo it's an unnatural motion.

and the more you do it the more times. you keep doing it over and over. especially at a younger age you know. it's more likely for you to have surgery. so it's like a 100% surgery rate if. you're a pitcher that ends up making it. to the big. leagues I mean yeah at some point you. know um you know luckily enough for me I. I avoid voided all you know major elbow. injuries and all of that stuff and um. but my very last pitch I threw in the. big leagues I tore everything on my. shoulder my capsule rotator cuff laum. bicep everything so like I said I mean.

it's it's it's only so many throws you. have in your arm before something's. going to tear up it's inevitable they're. putting 100 pitches on eight-year-olds. allegedly you know that's a that's a hit. that's a yeah there's a counter going. inevitably from the beginning of it all. go ahead AJ see you see I saw what. Kenley Jensen said that the the the. balls like this either slippery. baseballs and it's hard to control right. now and he's having a tough time. controlling what's going on with the. baseballs and how important is that and. do you guys are you able to see like a. box of balls and rough them up like.

quarterbacks are able to uh NFL game. balls great question yeah I mean that. that's the thing you know so the. baseballs that we use in the game are. mudded up and rubbed up by usually. somebody at the stadium um before I. think. 23 I think it was just up to the teams. to to Mud The Baseballs up so however. you wanted to do it I think in the last. year MLB has got involved and kind of. uniformed the way they want the. baseballs to look and you know kind of a. certain way and M up the balls but yeah. know you we were talking about this. today we had a meeting with the Pirates. and you know there's literally you know. people in the factory in Costa Rica. stitching these baseball together so you. know every everyone's going to be. different every time you grab a baseball. so that's always been something it's. it's just the fact of being able to get. a good grip whether it's rising or you. know stuff that you you you're allowed. legally to use now to grab a good grip. but every baseball that you pick up you. know as a big leager is is different so. we got handson baseball but we're about. to have robotic umpires Angel Hernandez.

tell me about them tell me about them. I've had some tough times with Angel. Hernandez um if if if it was up to me um. I would want full ABS fully you know. robotic umpires but just talk to the. guys and the players of today's game. they don't want that they kind of want. the human element want to be able I I. feel like they're leaning towards to be. able to you know be able to challenge. that pitch right there or challenge that. call where you can tap your helmet go. upstairs look upstairs and they can. review it um it's a quick thing that.

they use in the minor leagues and I feel. like we'll go to that before we go to. fully you know automated you know. robotic umpires now obviously we seen. this pitcher right here he started. taking advantage of the strike zone. that's the human element that the. pitchers are talking about yeah yeah. absolutely and and as a pitcher you know. if you if he's calling that out there. you just keep throwing it out there you. know and see how far he's going to go um. and you know that that's obviously um. always been a big problem you know for. me um I've always I've always had. problems with umpires and obviously with.

angels so um yeah I would just like to. take that out of it but if you talk to. the guys today they don't want that they. they want you know catchers back there. framing pitches and you know being able. to steal strike there will always be a. gripe whenever it's a judgment call in a. competitive world you know like think. about all the fights we see for UFC or. boxing where the judges get it wrong. it's like anytime there is Judgment. taken let alone every single pitch it's. a human's judgment that's absur from the. angle they're standing too it's a weird.

one you know it's a and that's every and. that's what every I mean they got a new. rule with the obstruction rule at second. base and it's kind of left up to. umpire's discretion so you know it's. it's kind of whatever they see you know. so when you leave it up there there's. like you said there's always going to be. a grip Ty's got a question for you yeah. CC obviously the season is a grind. but as like a Yankees fan and they've. had you know one of their best starts uh. ever and then teams like the Pirates and. like the Tigers and Royals and some of. these teams who weren't necessarily. going to be competitors people thought.

like how much do these early season. April and like May games matter like as. a team can you know like hey obviously. we're not going to make the playoffs. based on the early season games like. this but we can also play ourselves into. like you know outperforming what you. thought was going to happen like how. much stock would teams be taking into. like a hot start or winning you know 15. of your first 20 games when you know. there's still five or six months left of. the Season Pirates no I think you always.

kind of put take stock into a hot start. especially like those teams that you. just named like the Pirates or you know. Kansas City or even the Yankees because. you know you you can't win the division. or you can't win the World Series in the. first month but you could definitely. lose it if you get off to a a a bad. start and you know go five and 20 or. something like that for the first month. so yeah I mean I think you know coming. out of spring training everybody just. wants to get settled in and then once. you see guys start getting into a Groove. and you get up to a hot start you start. believing and and you know anything can.

happen during the summertime and and. once you get momentum rolling baseball. is one of those things where you plan it. every day and it's all about confidence. so you start winning some of those games. early and you start feeling like you. supposed to win some of these series um. yeah it can turn into a great summer. okay so the Pittsburgh Pirates are. winning what is it the pennant a pen the. pennant the pennant a super pennant dude. we're about to win we're about to win. yeah we're about to win the [ __ ] pen. CC that's what we're about to do you. know why because we got the hundo boys.

lineup we ended up moving to the. bullpens you think about a guy like. Mariano Rivera he started off as a. starter um and then ends up in the. bullpen so um it's just one of those. things where you know they they back. then they get you into the system and. see if you can handle being a starter um. now you know they're drafting relievers. you see guys college that are that. reliever that are relievers only so um. now it's more down to a science where. you know these guys come into they come. into the league defined already as one. thing and you know skem is one of those.

I'm on the phone with the guys and I'm. like am I hitting or am I pitching like. it was just really like a trial it was.

one of those things and I get to the. minor leagues and I didn't know how to. throw a four seamer or two seamer any of. that stuff they show me my delivery they. show me how to throw a four seamer and I. go from throwing 92 in high school to. 988 and like three months two months and. the rest is kind of History it's crazy. yeah I mean I got drafted first round be. a pitcher and the majors had no idea. what a force to force what a we no idea. what a was give me the baseball yeah. yeah I'm throwing it I'm beating that. guy right yeah got it how about when you.
