The Pat McAfee Show Live From NFL Network Studios | Tuesday October 20th 2026
Hey, hey, hey. You make me watch my hands up. Keep my. hands up all again now.
USA. USA. USA.
Come on in. Oh my god.
Ah.
The following program is a collection of. students talking about happenings in the. sports world. It is meant to be comedic, informative. The opinions expressed on. this show do not necessarily reflect the. beliefs of their peers, their boss, or. ESPN. There may be some cuss words.
because that's how humans into the real. world talk. If you are a young, please. seek permission before watching any. further. >> Hey, >> let's go. >> This show stinks and the fact that you. listen, we are very, very thankful for. on the line with a gorgeous assist. >> The alltime leading tackler for the. Green Bay Packers. You pick. >> damn it. Your friend, tell a friend.
something nice could change their life. >> Hello, beautiful people, and welcome to the nicest place we've. ever done a show on this NBA Tip Off. Tuesday, October 20th. This show starts. now. FOOTBALL. >> GREAT WORK ON THE JIB. We are so. incredibly thankful and lucky to be here. in Los Angeles in front of Sofi Stadium,
I believe, at the NFL network studios. that is now a part of the ESPN family. because of the ESPN NFL Media merger. We. just walked through this for the first. time. First of all, them having our logo. on the side of their building. Thank you. so much for the hospitality. Just walk. through this building. Nicest studios. I've ever seen in my life. >> Yeah. >> Every toilet has a bet. >> Yeah. >> Every toilet is a bet. You go and get. coffee, 14 different varieties of. coffee. You're talking about the nicest. cafeteria I've seen, the nicest studios.
we've seen, and sitting right out here, maybe the nicest setup we've ever had. We appreciate everybody that has allowed. us to do this. We're very thankful and. lucky to be a part of this operation. And fresh off of a field pass on Monday. Night Football on ESPN 2. We are living. the dream. You know who else is living. the dream? Brock Pery. He is now the. all-time leader in passer rating after. he qualified for the stat after having. 1,500 pass attempts. Last night, Brock. Party was surgical. The San Francisco. 49ers looked like they were going to. potentially dominate this Washington.
Commanders team. 20 to3 20point lead at. one point. Then the Washington. Commanders woke up in the second half. Jaden Daniel started doing his thing. This became a ball game and all of a. sudden we think to ourselves, it's Dan. Quinn and the Washington Commanders. about to do something nobody has ever. done in the past. Kyle Shanahan was 35. and0 whenever he had a 20-point lead at. one point in the game. That was about to. vanish because of Jaden Daniels and Dan. Quinn. Instead, San Francisco 49ers. defense get a big time sack whenever. they need it. They get a stop and the. San Francisco 49ers remain undefeated. after a Monday Night Football epic clash.
that we'll remember forever cuz we had. the absurd opportunity to be down there. on the end zone. To everybody that tuned. in and watched alongside of us, we. appreciate you. We had some fun out. there. Now, we did uh hear some. reporting at halftime. Uh Scott Vanpelt, noted Commanders fan, uh Monday night. countdown host. I'm lucky to work with. him. Uh every single Monday, 6:00 to 8. on ESPN. Halftime, he comes down to us. and he says, "Got to know how many downs. there are. Got to know what down it is.". And he's a little bit of a depressed.
Commanders fan after how everything is. going and how it has gone. He says, "Got. to know how many downs there are." We. go, "We missed it. What are you talking. about?" He goes, "Look at look back.". What Dan Quinn says after the fourth and. five in field goal range throwaway by. Jaden Daniels illegal shift one week. after the whole gaff to end the game. where they didn't know if it was a sixth. quarter if they could lose or what the. hell was going on with no timeouts. So. multiple situations backto-back game. Scott Van Pel said can't have it happen. So we talk about it cuz we were. flabbergasted that that would happen. We.
watched the video back sure looks like. that's what he said but Dan Quinn came. out afterwards and we have to take him. for what his words are. He said, "I knew. what Donnie was.". >> Come on. >> Uh, >> so we appreciate Dan Quinn clearing that. up. I don't know if a lot of people are. going to believe it. I will take him for. his word because I believe Dan Quinn has. committed a lot of his life to football. Dan Quinn has done a lot of good for. football. I think against the Giants, that situation with the OC, might have. been some communication issues, might. have been a a lack of knowledge. Whatever the case, I don't think we need. to be judging Dan Quinn just off of.
that. Okay, this guy's won Super Bowl. This guy's going to head coach more. Now. he's wearing his hat forward. >> Not good. different. >> He said backwards because he went back. to Dallas. So he goes over to Atlanta as. a head coach. Everything happens. 283. We talked about it. Shanahan gets a lot. of the blame. He was the head coach. Nobody really remembers that. He goes to. Dallas, becomes defense coordinator, wears his backwards hat, becomes cool. guy. I mean, Dallas Cowboys defense is. awesome. Gets head coaching. opportunities again. Has backwards hat. They have success. They start going down. to pooper a little bit. All of a sudden, now we got a forwards hat. The owner's. in the building. Am I a bad coach? You're not a bad coach, Dan Quinn. But a. lot of people are saying that with how.
it's going with the Commanders. That is. life in the NFL. That the Niners might. be the best team in ball. that the. Banners might be the worst team in ball, but really it's just two plays that. could have changed the entire outcome. And that is why football is the absolute. best. We're here outside of Sofi, the. home of a lot of big games and the home. of the reigning MVP. Boy, the Rams are. in a tough spot, it feels like. And then. you look at the Niners out here in the. NFC West and you think, is that what the. Kings of Ball look like? And you could. certainly find yourself saying, I think. so. incredible environment in Levi. Stadium and uh this week six NFL season.
really has delivered for us. It's not. just me out here on a field that's. gorgeous. >> Yeah. >> In this sun, which is one of the best. parts of Los Angeles, I guess, is the. weather. >> Sure. >> No matter what's going on in the city, whether it's uh booming or in a rebuild. or coming back, the weather is always. going to be fantastic. We feel that and. experience that right now. The toxic. tape was here at Boston Connor and at Ty. Schmidt last night. con man. Brock Pro. went into the history books actually.
>> Yeah. >> Highest pass rating in the history of. ball. Congrats to him. But that honors. team looked very dominant. Everything. they did. And then Christian McCaffrey. starts cooking and he's just getting. yards after yards with everything he's. doing. Looked like a couple years ago. Might have lost Mike Evans. >> Yes, >> that's not good at all. But I like the. way this Niners team operated last. night. >> Yeah, they were very dominant in the. first half, but there was kind of that. glaring missing piece on offense once. Mike Evans went out. wonder they're. probably a team that's going to be. pretty aggressive going forward at the. trade deadline. They need a wide.
receiver. I mean, no Mike Evans, no Debo. Samuel, Demarcus Robinson was out. They're out a ton of guys. And Achilles. tendonitis, like if Mike Evans pulled. his hamstring or it was something like. that, that'd be one thing. The Achilles. tendonitis thing is just not cool. Okay, it sucks that that is a thing. We saw it. with McCaffrey a couple years ago. He. missed the first 13 weeks of the season, maybe. And now Mike Evans dealing with. it. the substation we got eyes on had. things no joke and yes it powers very. very important things like you mentioned. Meta uh Microsoft very open AI stuff we.
need in some capacity. some people some people would say no. >> I don't know after that coach's video we. need open that's true. >> I did not know Freeman could do it like. that. >> sack see how happy DBR was to be hitting. those notes. >> yeah that's one half of the hammer. >> Cowboys AP tone never seen DBR that. happy nine Your NFL vet Darius J. Butler. is here as well. Debut, we'll get into. how ridiculous this this whole thing is. >> Yeah. I mean, incredible.
>> property value this close to so I mean. to build this place, let alone and then. what's inside of it. Every bathroom, every toilet, bedet, >> mixed reviews on those, by the way. >> From who? >> Mixed reviews. >> Not on the bedet. The seat warmer needs. to go. I like feeling a nice cold toilet. seat when I sit down. And I don't like. my butt cheeks to be sweating when I'm. trying to have just a nice normal. diarrhea. I want to get that done and. over with. I don't need to compound it. with, you know, getting. >> Did that happen in here? Is this what.
just happened? >> Yes. Big time. >> This place had no idea. >> Felt like we were taking a poop after it. got out of the pool. And nobody likes. doing that. >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. >> So, I think there's Maybe you guys had. the heat too high. You probably turn. that down. >> 10,000 buttons in there. You know, I'm. not trying to fly to Mars. I'm trying to. take a [ __ ] So, you know, I get it. It's cool. It's unbelievable. It's. crazy. But I I don't need that, you. know. I just give me a classic portagon. and I'll take the beer that way. >> And you you would like a moisturized uh. wipe though, >> without a doubt, >> cuz that is like a portable bet.
>> Bingo. >> So you don't mind the post shower part. of the bedet? >> I don't love wet wipes. >> You just don't like the environment in. which your cheeks have to handle. >> Right. And I also, you know, I do. appreciate that they it felt like they. were like kind of spraying some. sanitizer into the bowl because. >> Yeah. before you get. >> Exactly. I don't know if the sensor was. off. I'm pretty sure uh some of that. sanitizer got sprayed into my butthole. and all over my so we'll see. I don't. know if I'm going to get sick from that. I don't know how my body is going to. react. Uh so we're battling this. morning. NFL might have a lawsuit on.
their head. >> Well, I'm not going to go that far. I'm. not going to go that far. But it was, you know, I just I was not expecting. that. I I thought I was taking a dump in. 2026, not 26, you know, 2665. >> Every toilet. >> Yep. Every single one. >> Yeah, they're cool. It was. It's. beautiful. It is beautiful. >> We are very thankful. >> without a doubt. >> Okay. You're very We are very thankful. for the opportunity. This place is way. too nice for us. I I don't know. I. wonder if these people that work here. know how nice this place is. >> I hope so.
>> It'd be tough if you're coming in to. work here every single day. Probably. just feels very common place. But yeah, this place is amazing. >> I want to let you guys know I love the. Thunder, though. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I love the Thunder. >> Now we don't have to poop on a charm. >> Okay. All right. Let's move along. Debbut last night. Rob Pery, Christian. McCaffrey, that offense spectacular. But. in the end, what they needed was a. defense to make a huge play. They get it. done, they win the game. What did you. see from the Niners last night that. makes you believe maybe they do go win. the Super Bowl? >> Let's act like Mike Evans will be back.
>> Okay, >> let's act like Mike Evans will be back. And it's just last night felt a little. Achilles soreness going into the game. Had a couple big plays, felt it again. They all decided like, hey, let's just. go ahead and park it here for a little. bit. We're up 20 at this point. Let's. assume that's the case. We have no idea. if that is the case or not, but let's. live in that world as if Mike Evans will. be playing for them down the stretch. here. What do you see from the Niners? And I think the. >> I think they got I mean, health is. obviously the biggest thing. Let's act. like they can stay healthy. >> That team stacked. >> Oh yeah, >> they are stacked and loaded. And Brock.
Pury, the way he plays football, surgical, cerebral, and. >> yeah, athlete had down there 30 yards. from the ground as well. So when things. break down, he can get out of they will. need a receiving threat, whoever it is. But Mike Mike Evans has been tremendous. so far this year. They're going to need. him healthy, I think, to make a Super. Bowl run. George KD being healthy is. huge. CMAC being healthy is huge. Black. even getting there and spell and CMAC. for those times will be huge as well. So, I think they have a team, but it's. always every year we say this, they have.
the team that can go and win the Super. Bowl if they can stay healthy. They have. a great coaching staff. We know who Kyle. Shanahan is. Got Raheem Morris back in. the building. They love flying around. And it was the defense who came through. and made plays late. It was uh Romelo. Height and then White combining for that. uh that sack to send them home. But I. mean that's what you talk about with. complimentary football. You talk about. Shanahan, you talk about Morris and then. our guy Brent Boy with the special team. So you're going to need all three phases. to win it all. They have the squad. Got. a great bye-week as well. One more game. and then the bye-week. So hopefully they. can be healthier on that other side to.
make a run down the stretch. >> Eddie Pinera is going to start making. extra points there. It it is breezy so. it would not be fun. Corusman almost. gets a turnover on the punt when Luke. McAffrey almost gets hit off a little. whirly bird. I saw Tory Taylor from the. Bears actually did that and got a. turnover for the Chicago Bears. These. punters are more talented than ever. Shout out to Tory Taylor. Sorry I missed. that in real time. We certainly should. have spotlighted that. Corass hit a. couple of those last night trying to get. a returner and a little bit of a buzzsaw. there which I respected and appreciated. them doing that. Uh you talk about the. injuries at wide receiver. It goes all.
Persaw supposed to be playing. >> Yeah. >> Stribbling supposed to be playing, Robinson supposed to be playing. They're. supposed to have a packed wide receiver. room. Debo hurt last night. Mike Evans. now out. It's like how much longer can. Brock Perie continue to make this system. his with whoever's at wide receiver? I. guess that's what it looked like last. night. Christian McCaffrey also getting. a lot of touches last night out of the. back field. >> Yeah, there was a point when uh he had. eight catches, KD had five catches and. then Mike Evans had three and then there. was only two other wide receivers with.
one catch each last night. But I think. going into that game, Shanahan had a. game plan that Mike Evans was going to. be there. So going forward when when. Mike Evans is out and dribbling is out. and Demarcus Robin and Debo if they're. out I think the the game plan will. obviously be a little bit different. Shanahan will be prepared for a little. bit more but no like once all these like. dribbling is going to come back at some. point. Mike Evans like after Shanahan. said last night feel he's going to be. fine at some point hopefully. It feels. like I feel like they're going to be. fine. They're going to get Bosa back on. defense. It does it does feel like. they're going to get healthy at some. point. They should hopefully. And then.
yeah they are the favorite to win the. Super Bowl right now for good reason. Joining us now is a man who probably has. a couple opinions on all of this. And. are we even in our sane mind trying to. predict who's going to win a Super Bowl. after week six? This guy's been This. guy's been calling sports 40 years. >> Jeez. >> Damn. >> He's got range, too. >> Yeah. Oh, yeah. >> You put him on a golf course, perfection. >> Mhm. >> You put him in a football booth magic. >> And hell, if you put him in a comedy. club, sounds like his laugh. Oh, so. great. Ladies and gentlemen, the. incomparable CBS man, Jimn.
Wow. >> Hello, friends. >> Wow. >> Well, hold on. Uh, where are you? This. looks incredible. >> You know where I am? Uh, I'm at a place. where I'm actually on the stage here in. Broadway down in Nashville. This is Eric. Church's place, Chiefs. You've probably. been here before, I'm guessing, Pat, but. if you haven't, Yeah. >> This is where they have concerts. I'm in. their concert hall. I was just finishing. an interview with the Titans, so I hung. on to knock this one out with you guys.
live from the stage where the diary of a. polarizing figure needs to perform. some point down the road. And if you do, I will be there to introduce you to this. very stage somewhere down the road. >> Jim, can't wait for that. We'll. definitely move that to the spring. whenever we have a little opening in a. schedule. Uh, album two on the way, by. the way. Oh, yeah. I'm sure people will. be pumped about that. I might say that. for the rest of my life. Uh Jim, you you. are Nashvilleian, right? I I believe you. have spoke for the city of Nashville on. multiple occasions. We love the city. I.
appreciate the fact that you love it as. well. Titans just get their first win. Uh you know, and I don't think anybody's. talking about the Titans winning the. Super Bowl this year, but them beating. the Colts. Colts firing the GM certainly. massive moment in the AFC South. Let's. go back to last night, Jim. I don't know. if you heard us talking there. We're. trying to forecast whether or not a team. can win a Super Bowl and acting like. health is just going to be good. That's. the biggest factor. And how do you feel. about those types of projections this. early in the season from what you've. experienced around the NFL?
>> Well, you know, we it could look so. different in uh in in two months time, but what the 49ers have already. accomplished with a win at Seattle. already beating the Rams to open the. season. And yes, we we know that story. is some somewhat tiresome. They've. always got these injuries to contend. with, but uh they look like on the NFC. side to me clearly the team to beat. I. mean, that game had the makings of a. blowout for a while last night. It. racked up 300 yards in the first half. I. want to give uh everybody a little. fantasy football gift if I can. You guys.
were talking about the receiving court, how depleted it is. Christian Kirk. >> will win some fantasy leagues for people. this year. He was not ready to come back. yet. He's come off of IR. They've opened. the 21day. I believe he's a great route. runner and I believe with Pury he's a. guy that could be good for five, six, seven catches a game when he gets out. there. >> Yeah, great route runner. He got paid. down there in Jacksonville, reset the. entire wide receiver market. Actually, the reason why Tyreek Hill ended up in.
Miami is because Christian Kirk got. signed to the Jacksonville Jaguars one. off season. He lived up to the hype down. there. Now he's in San Francisco. whenever they need him. You get Debo. Samuel back, okay? You get Debo back, which I was talking to a lot of the. Niners folks last night. Like tonight. would have been a great Debo night. Just. a little slant, >> extra yak. We are off and running. He. get him back. Hopefully Mike Evans is. good. Christian Kirk's going to be out. there. Christian McAffrey is still back. there. Other back last night got some uh. some rub as well. >> Kayen Black's.
going to be big. >> Yeah, I think so, Nance. I think they. got a real squad in San Francisco. Can. they stay healthy? Now, let's pivot away. from the Niners in Super Bowl. projections. You just called the Bills. Raiders. Now the big question is, can. that Buffalo Bills defense get a stop. sometime in the fourth quarter in a big. playoff game whenever they need it? So. Josh can answer. How do you view that. Bills team now after watching them take. on the Raiders who I think we're all. impressed by the Raiders? >> I think we're all impressed by the. Raiders. How do you view the Bills now. though, Jim, after calling them? >> Well, it's going to be that defense is.
going to be the key because uh Jim. Leonard, I love their defensive. coordinator, but that they give up 30. points uh almost every single week, but. they still win. They outscore them. Josh. is doing his thing like he always has. He had this one touchdown pass uh the. other day that uh I think one of his top. 10 highlights ever where he flipped it. like he was like rolling dice like he. had just come off uh the casino floor. This is the play right here. This Watch. this. Tell me this is not a guy rolling. some dice right here on the craps table.
Watch this right here. Right there. Yeah. >> At the Keon Cole. >> that hits the back wall there. Bounces. back nice. Settles in. Yeah. >> Uh-huh. Well, and and you know, they're. going to get back DJ Moore. They're. going on a buy this week. And talking to. Joe Brady, Moore, we saw a sneak peek of. that week one. He opens up things for. him. Not that he this offense isn't. running without him in high gear. But I. think with Moore hopefully being healthy. from week eight on, the offense is going. to be good for 30 every single week. And.
the defense is still trying to find. itself. The secondary is an issue. Um, and they've got to figure that one out. But, you know, Greg Russo's sneakily. come up this season and is a better. player he's ever been, a former first. round pick. He's got six sacks. U he's a. playmaker I see. And they've been. without Ed Oliver the last two games. So, I think this could be a Buffalo San. Francisco year, but on Thanksgiving. night, it's Buffalo and Kansas City. A. game that always came to us at CBS like.
the last eight years in a row. It's not. going to be ours this year. Um, and we. understand that how that works. And. NBC's going to have it. It'll be a whale. of a game. Probably the winner of that. game will have home field. And I would. project that team, Kansas City or. Buffalo to play San Francisco in the. Super Bowl. >> Modern media is shaking up a lot of. things. You being a part of our Sundays. has been a part of our entire lives. You. know, it's uh so we're very grateful for. that. You not having the AFC big game. though is certainly something that's. abnormal. The big game has been the.
Chiefs for a long, long time. This would. have to be the year Josh Allen gets past. maybe the best version of them. Debbut. has a question for you, Jim. >> Yeah, kind of a new version. Pat just. alluded to it with K9 in the backfield. He's been off offensive player, maybe. MVP type start. I mean, I know it is. Josh and but I feel like Kansas City, Patrick Mahomes, are they still the team. to beat in your eyes? >> Well, they have so much experience in. winning the big game. That's a great. question and I love the fact that coming.
into the year they were kind of not on. anyone's radar as being the old Chiefs. all over again. And you're right. I. think Ken Walker and having seen them. already this season when they played out. in Vegas two weeks ago, this guy to me. is the MVP of the league right now at. the quarter poll. And it's always gets. back to the quarterbacks. You know, people talk about Perie, they talk about. Josh, they talk about Patrick Mahomes. Okay, they've all been fine. They've all. been better than fine, but this guy has. completely changed the look of Kansas.
City. It's never looked like this. He's. never had a back that completely changes. the way the offense runs. And um yeah, I. mean, he to me right now is the MVP at. this point of the season. >> Last Super Bowl that they won, I believe. it was last Super Bowl they won, Patrick. Mahomes came out multiple times down the. stretch of the season and into the. playoffs and said, "This is a defensive. team with a run game." I actually have. had to learn that this year where it's. like, hey, we'll hand this thing off. three times and punt. That's okay with.
how good our defense was at the time. This year, I think he not only leaning. on that particular experience, he loves. what's happening whenever the entire. defense has to account for K9 every He's. getting heavy boxes. This guy's getting. heavy boxes for the first time in like. four years. Remember the cover two thing. with Patrick Mahomes was he's going to. have to just not get bored. He's going. to have to check it down, check it down, check it down. And they became that way. for a long time because how defenses. were playing. Now you can't waste a guy. in coverage because he's got to be down. the box because of K9. That opens up.
Travis is eating now a little bit more. than ever. If they were to get another. wide receiver, I think they would eat. and Patrick Mahomes is doing [ __ ] that. we haven't seen in a few years out of. Patrick Mahomes. >> Yeah. And the question was at least. coming into the season, even after a hot. start, would Andy Reid kind of continue. to lean on the run game because that's. always been a question about Andy. He's. always been, you know, quote unquote. pass happy. But with this start, I would. assume he will continue to do so with. Kenneth Walker leading the league by. wide margin when it comes to miss. tackle. Eric B&B being back in the. building, I think is a huge role. And. then Travis Kelce, Travis Kelce looked.
like he aged five years backwards. Xavier Worthy making some plays. So. yeah, this team right now, the defense, they're doing their thing per usual. under Spag. So yeah, this team right now. is clearly, in my opinion, the team to. beat. >> And their special teams is great as. well. The Chiefs is still the Chiefs. It. might be better than ever. a team in the. AFC that might go 13 and4 this year. Jim. Nance uh fired their general manager. just yesterday and uh Boston Connor. Patriot fan has a question for you. Jim, I'm sure this won't be biased narrative.
reading at all. >> Jim, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. in the NFL and we know that as people. who live in Indianapolis and call that. place home. Okay. >> How tough is Look, it's tough, man. Okay, I'm we're paying we're paying. taxes to support that stadium. One, two, I was told there'd be two Super Bowls by. the time J. Sorry. Sorry. >> That's a separate conversation. But Jim, for a team like the Colts, how do you. kind of see them going forward? You. know, the GM gets fired, of course, that. stinks. GM Pat mentioned yesterday for.
Chris Bard also stands for good man, which he was to the city, but as far as. the job goes, it was tough for a long. time. Do you think it's just a fire. sale? Do you think that is kind of how. this goes typically in Indianapolis? Where do you see kind of their season. going? Do you see 13 and four or do you. see four and 13? >> Okay. I don't see 13 and four. I saw. them a week ago at Pittsburgh. >> You know, they're so depleted on the. outside. I'm talking offensively here, but you've got you've got a guy that.
nationally I still don't think gets the. respect talking about JT Jonathan. Taylor. You cannot give up on the let's. say the next two or three years and do a. fire sale right now. You got a guy that. is a great great player. You got guys. like look at DeForest Buckner. He's come. back this year. He talk you were. mentioning some Kelsey looks like he's. dialed back five years. The Benjamin. Button thing. I mean they've got guys on. both sides that can play. Yeah. >> Right now they're like a 500 team. I.
know they're not by record right now, but they look like a team that would. have projected 8 and N and eight and. they're a couple of things away from I. wouldn't give up on it yet. That's what. I'm talking about. Thank you, Jim. I. like that. I like that. That makes me. feel good cuz you know what I'm. thinking? >> Oh, no. >> We got no picks, Jim. We got no picks. going forward. We got all our money. accounted for basically everywhere. and. a new GM who is gonna come in and be. like, "All right, we got over $100.
million in a contract in a quarterback.". Uh, we got a lot of money all around the. the roster. Maybe it's just a new. culture that they need in there. Is that. what you're thinking, Jim? Just like a. new culture, a couple new pieces. How do. we have It's We're two and 11 in the. last 13 with all these guys you're. talking about. They're great players. I. agree. I completely agree. Jonathan. Taylor deserves a lot more credit than. he we try to give it to him whenever he. plays great. He's won us a lot of games. Deorest Buckner, when the Colts have. him, we're usually pretty good. When we. don't have him, he's not good. This 2.
and 11 had a lot of no Deorest Buckner. because he was like very seriously. injured for a while. So, we have a lot. of great players. We stink. We can't. win. You think just some new like a new. culture in there, Jim, can do wonders. potentially? >> I know. I just No, I think Pat, you look. at it. I mean, you got Quint Nelson. Let's talk about one of the best in the. whole league at his position. >> But Tyler Warren didn't play on Sunday. Uh, that's something to build around. But you've got you lost Pierce. That was. huge. >> Talk about stacking the box. I mean, there is just. >> I want to let me address Daniel Jones.
>> Okay. >> We saw him at his best at the start last. year and we know what happened. You. know, he he didn't finish the year. Had. had it taken away with injury. I know people don't want to hear this. It's not going to be a popular take. He's not all the way back from from that. Achilles injury. I mean, this is a guy. that used to be able to beat a little. bit with his legs. I mean, he could. really come out of the pocket like he's. trying to do right here and take off. I. mean, he had 60, 70 yard runs back early. in his career. The guy was a threat.
He's not. Now, they're stacking the box. You're talking about it because there's. no threat on the outside. And by the. way, did you agree with this call right. here? >> What the catch? >> That was sick. >> No, I didn't agree with it. I was in the. ability to drive. I hated it. I thought. it was a phenomenal play. I hated every. second of it. There was a couple of. those down in the red zone while we were. driving. Daniel Jones has been turning. the ball over, but to your point, he. came back so quickly from that Achilles. and everybody else that we've seen come. back quick has taken a little bit to get.
back. I mean, you you Kirk Cousins. throwing dimes in the fourth quarter. Now, he didn't look great whenever he. returned. Aaron Rogers, it took a little. bit, I think, for him to return. Guy. basketball players. >> seemingly have been able to KD really is. the outlier, honestly. He's the only one. that's come back and seemingly right. away hit the ground running and been. great. He's unbelievable to watch. So, you're right. Maybe we should be a. little bit more patient with Daniel. Jones experience that we're kind of. having right now. But it looks bad. It. looks really bad. >> It doesn't look good. It doesn't look. good right now. >> They stink, Jim.
>> They freaking stink, man. >> The city stinks right now. >> No, the city is still awesome. The. >> city's great. The team is great. >> Thank you, Jim. >> The city The city I could have I could. have moved there. I I actually thought. about moving there. I was living in. Pebble Beach, California full-time for. 10 years. >> And it the the the commute crushed me. because most of the time I was going. across the country every week like 40. weeks a year. >> So now it came time to find a new place. to plant and I had India was on my final.
three. I really love Indie and I called. more events, more variety of events in. Indianapolis than any other city in the. country. I ended up choosing Nashville. Close call. It was a great call. I love. this city. Music City's awesome, but I. have a special place in my heart for. Indianapolis. I've called. >> six or seven Final Fours, PGA's, Pan-American games, numerous Colts. games. I mean, it goes on and on. I know. that city so well. I could have lived. there. I really could have and would.
have been very happy. >> Man, you and Matthew Stafford both. Do. you remember that? >> Oh, yeah. >> Allegedly, Matthew Stafford was going to. come to Indie, too. I didn't know we. could have had Nance and. >> Yeah. Yeah. Whenever he was leaving. Detroit, allegedly Indianapolis was one. of the teams he liked to go to cuz we. had a good offensive line. We had a good. offensive line. >> He was on Zillow. >> Yeah. He told Shriger he was on Zillow. and looking for houses. >> And then we we won with Carson Wentz, I. think. >> Yeah, >> that was awesome. That was fun. >> We won Carson Wentz. Hey, these are. decisions that get made in real time. And Matthew Stafford going to win a.
Super Bowl for Los Angeles Rams and an. MVP. And we were currently still trying. to figure out what the hell we're going. to do with football team. But the next. chapter is our best chapter. Jim Nance. just said it there. Let's talk about. your next chapter this upcoming weekend. Got the Ravens. Go ahead, Tone. >> Yeah, Jim, you uh were talking about the. Bills and Chiefs in the AFC earlier. Don't forget the uh Bengals and Ravens. who you have this week. Have you had any. indication yet about Lamar's status uh. for Sunday? I don't know if you've. talked to the coaches or teams or. anything like that yet. And then what do. you think about those two teams chances. in the AFC against those other two that.
we talked about earlier? >> Well, that that division, great. question. That division, everyone in. that division right now is got a winning. record. So, that's rare. I mean, when. you get to late October and everybody's. over 500 and of course the surprising. Browns at 4-2 who are coming in here and. taking on Tennessee this week. Um, >> I don't have anything on Lamar yet. Today is going to be No, we'll know. tomorrow when they first come out with. the injury reports. I think he's going. to be a go. >> I think he's going to play in this game. It's too big. Um, obviously the Bengals.
are sitting at three and two coming off. a byee and uh they're explosive. We know. that. And uh that division is totally. right now with Pittsburgh at 4-2. It's. up for grabs. That was a bad loss by the. Ravens the other day. They had a. 10-point lead and um and I think they. need Lamar back. Snoop was doing great. Snoop pulled off that win at Atlanta, but uh I you know, the Browns adjusted. later in that game. They gave up nothing. to the to the Ravens the rest of the the.
last three quarters of that game and. they never scored. In fact, quarters 2, three, and four. I think it's time for. Lamar to come back and I think it's a. whale of a game. They've got I've had. this matchup so many times through the. years, they're always down to the wire. and usually highscoring affairs. So, I'm. looking forward to seeing Joe Burrow. We. didn't see them. We haven't seen them in. a while in our crew. And um you know, this is going to be big for both sides. >> Jim, how how do you have so much. information in that brain? And then as. you're unloading it all, uh I noticed.
that your right hand right there is no. longer repped. Um, I don't know if. you've given a full update on trying to. do the peanut punch on Sunday. I like that bucket of ice. >> Good gimmick. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Uh, no. Um, let me clarify. I did kind of go aggressively here after. this ball because JJ encouraged me to do. so and it did sting. I'm not I'm not. going to kid you. and and JJ said, "I.
didn't know you were going to come after. it that hard." Some are saying that it. was the greatest punch thrown in Vegas. since uh Pacquiao a few years back. >> Okay. >> Um but uh I gave it my best and as soon. as I did it, I regretted it cuz I felt. like. >> everything had been compressed. >> Yeah. >> And I did think I was going to wake up. Monday with this thing about triple the. size. But I'm fine. I'm not on I'm not. going to be on the injury report this. week. I'm gonna be good to go. No broken. bones. I want to thank every I've gotten. more people reaching out to me with.
concerned. >> of course. >> about what's going on with my wrist. Did. you break it? I was joking when I said. right after this right here. I said I. think I broke my wrist. Yes. >> Cuz there was that immediate like. reverberation thing going on. Um but I. mean I heard from people you can't. believe. Josh Allen texted me an hour. after the game and said, "Did you just. break your hand? I'm hearing you broke. your hand." I heard from a former. president of the United States. >> Wow. reached out and wanted to know if. my hand was broken. So, listen, those.
comments have been greatly exaggerated. I'm fine. I'm tough. It did hurt for a. while and um we're going to be good to. go on Sunday. And you I learned a. lesson. You got JJ Watt cradling a ball. like this. What am I I'm I'm going to. like knock it out of his hands. Come on. The thing was vacuum sealed into his. chest. >> Yeah. I think that's why I think that's. why JJ appreciated how hard you actually. went for it. Like cuz there was a moment. in your head you thought, man, I'm going. to get this out right here. You know, I'm going to really I'm going to go for.
it. And you you thought to yourself, I. used to throw hands back in like that. >> You know, somebody crosses Nance, they. get the hands. People knew. >> What did you think of the form, Pat? What did you What did you see there? >> Well, the reason why your wrist hurt is. because you actually lined it up. That's. actually you you actually got some good. uh I think Justin Gatey would tell you. that your force was not wasted cuz you. had that thing square through. So, the. reason why you felt that in there is. because the the energy went through. nucks, through your metatarsal, cuz you. can break all those things wherever you.
throw a punch and you've done this uh. whether you're in a fight, not me. obviously, I would never do that, or. with one of those punching bags at the. bar, people punch it and then they break. their stuff and that. So, it making its. way all the way to the wrist. That's. actually good news for how much wrist. luck I think you had. I I'm not a. professional. >> It's not like a a running back either. I. don't think any running backs have Mitt. or that Bill like uh JJ in there. So I. was thinking like. >> just had a flashback of Blake groupy. te's and peas in the sideline. That was. Jim on JJ right there.
>> Yes, exactly. >> That's what it was. >> You didn't deserve that Jim. But the. Blake Ruby did did ACL. Blake, >> we love you. That was some of the best. effort that we've seen in some time just. to completely defy everything that is. everything that we know about like. matter and force. >> He got hit so hard in the head that it. was a chain reaction that went down and. tore his ACL. >> We don't think that was the case. I. think his knee got planted and twisted.
I don't know, >> but he was in this stadium behind us. Blake groupy, Godspeed on your return. That's what Blake Groupy does when he's. trying to tackle somebody who's double. his size. Think about what he's going to. do to this ACL recovery. Groupy will be. back. I cannot wait to see that. We love. Groupy in Indianapolis. We are very. lucky for Groupy in Indianapolis. He's. got a lot of spunk. Speaking of spunk, let's talk about funk. Let's talk about. ass. Let's talk about the worst division. in the history of ball potentially. Ty. has a question for you. >> Yeah, Jim. The NFC East is the first. division in the history of football to.
not have uh one of their teams win two. weeks in a row. How do you think this. whole thing is going to shake out? It it. seems like we could be kind of going. towards three coaches getting fired. Obviously, the Giants aren't going to. fire Harbaugh, but they might be going. with JJ McCarthy. Uh, who knows what's. going on with the Eagles. We've talked. adnauseium about the the Commanders. Like, what how do you think this. division is ultimately going to shake. out? >> It's ugly. It's ugly. And uh I feel so. badly for Jaylen Herz and you know we.
just hope that uh this is something that. can get resolved for you know for his. life. Forget the football part of it but. it just seems to be a doomed year all. the way around with other injuries that. have happened to the Eagles. I don't see. it with with Washington. Uh I believe in John Harbaugh as a coach. and you know here they are what 32 and. one so they're they're leading the. division. Um, I would say that it comes down to the. Cowboys and the Giants. It's ugly. I.
mean, there's I think the Cowboys, even. with their recent missteps, terrible. loss to Tampa a couple of weeks ago and. um, you know, Green Bay completely. outplayed them on Sunday night. But I I. I think it's I think it's Dallas or or. the Giants. And I think whichever team. wins is going to be the four seed, meaning the last of the divisional. winners on the playoff line. So they'll. play the best the best of the wildcard.
team. So whoever the best wildcard team. is, let's say it's the let's say it's. the. >> second team. >> Who did you say? >> Seahawks. >> Seahawks. >> Yeah. Let's say it's either the Seahawks. or it's going to come out of the the uh. NFC North. You know, you got Chicago and. Detroit and Minnesota up there. >> So, Dallas or the Giants is going to. host one of those teams. Either Seattle, Minnesota, Chicago, or Detroit. You can. take it to the bank. >> Okay. I like that. That's a Jim Nance. prediction. Sorry about the Green Bay.
Packers. >> No, they're winning the division. That's. what. >> that's what he said. Okay. Whoever's. going to wild card wild card spot out of. the NFC North. Got it. Okay. That's a. couple predictions he just gave. We just. heard that as we piece through it. Are. you singing Tallaladega up there for the. rest of the day or how you kind of. wrapping up over there? You look so cool. right now. >> I'm just waiting for you to come up here. and take this stage, big guy. I I don't. know if you've ever been here before. >> Uh I I think I've been through Chiefs. before. Zitto had his um bachelor party. down there. We we bopped we bopped. around pretty good. I I think we've been. through Chiefs. Place is beautiful.
>> I was here for the uh for the grand. opening a couple years ago and I mean it. was just we had people flying from all. over. Michael Jordan was sitting uh in. the seats behind me. uh Payton and Eli. were here. Everybody from church, >> you know, all the best of the best of. the Titans and their history here and uh. Eric came up and did a little bit and. he's been a great friend by the way. Um. amazing friend since I moved here 5. years ago and I know he would love to. have you take stage sometime like I said. at the beginning. >> Okay, sounds good. Let's go ahead and.
count that as a yes. Uh I will do that. I appreciate the invite from you and. Chief I obviously love that. Uh, I I. want to thank you for uh your. contributions to sport and to our lives. You've been so consistent through it. all. You're the man. Keep going out. there, Jim. And just remember, JJ Watt's. JJ Watt, you know, like that that you're. not going to get a ball out of his hands. like that. >> I'm going to I'm going to knock some. knuckles to you right there. Okay. >> Yeah, let's do that. >> Right back at you. >> Hey, you're the best, ladies and. gentlemen. Jim N.
>> What if that's his new thing? Punching. people. Hey, put her there. Jim, >> that would be good. Jim Nance hands. He. used to throw hands. I heard Iron Fist. He had a big. >> Wasn't he a golden gloves growing up? >> I think so. Yeah. Hadn't thrown one in a. while. Had to retire from boxing because. Pacquiao and them got all pissed off. >> cuz they're like, "What's this guy? He. has got a buttery voice. He can call. everything, make everything seem cool, and then also he can knock us out. This. guy's an alien. >> Maybe Jim Nance might just might be. This is way too nice for us to be here, but we are grateful uh that we are here.
Shout out to everybody at the NFL. studios. What is the name of this. place?" Um. >> yeah, NFL network. centeration with ESPN. >> Most beday per capita of any building in. the history. >> without question. >> Shout out to it. >> Yeah. I. >> mean, as soon as you walk in like the. helmets, the rings, >> all the helmets have visors on. That was. a nice touch. >> Great touch. Great touch. Big logo. >> Yeah, this place is gorgeous. They did. it right here. They did it right here. I.
have no idea what that would cost for us. to build, but. >> Oh, here. >> right next to the stadium. >> It's beautiful. >> Single wood. >> It's gorgeous. Joining us now, ladies. and gentlemen, is a man who is a. commissioner of a league that is tipping. off today. Now, we got sent over a. couple key facts and milestones. >> from the association that I do believe. should be read before the man who's. about to join uh join us joins us. This. is his league. Let's remember this. The. NBA has crowned a different champion in. each of the last eight seasons. The.
longest such streak in league history. 13 different franchises have reached the. NBA finals during that span. How about. parody con man? >> Big time. >> The Western Conference has sent seven. different teams to the NBA Finals in the. last seven seasons. A first of either. conference. How you doing parody in the. West? That might change this year as the. East has seemingly got a bit more. stacked. Shay Gilis Alexander SGA. He. can become only the fourth player to win. three straight Kia. I don't know if it. all is always this.
Kia NBA MVP awards. He would join Bill. Russell, Wil Chamberlain, and Larry. Bird. >> Gez. >> Oh yeah. LeBron James is a member of the. Sixers. Victor Webyama. He can become. the first player to lead the NBA in. blocks per game in four consecutive. seasons since blocks became an official. stat in 1973. >> Wow. >> Magic happening all across the. association. Leaguewide there story. lines and there feels like there's hope. more than ever before. The commissioner. of the NBA, ladies and gentlemen, Adam. Silver.
>> You know, Pat, I wasn't sure if you'd be. able to read my handwriting. >> Yeah. Well, I'll tell you what, just. like everything else, very efficient and. fantastic. Thank you for sending this. via carrier pigeon. Now, um, let's talk. about your league and some of the stats. that we just read off there. Parody is. incredible. I know you've been combating. that and battling that because the NBA. had that whole, well, they're not going. for it. They're trying to get a lottery. pick. How do you feel about the state of. the league where we're at and what do. you expect from this particular season? More parody from your league's best?
>> Absolutely. again, you you rattled off. some of those great stats about the. number of uh champions, unique. champions, eight different over the last. eight seasons, but I can't remember a. season that was so anticipated in terms. of the level of competition across the. league. As you mentioned, bunch of our. big stars um have changed teams. Players. like LeBron of course in Philly, Kawawaii, you know, the East is loaded. Bunch of teams in the West are we we.
were opening uh with uh San Antonio and. OKC. Tonight is the late game. You know, after the the Knicks are opening at home. for the ring ceremony with with LeBron. Um we got Boston and we got uh Detroit. this afternoon. I mean that's I think as. I look across the league there's. something to watch on on on every club. like a bunch of new young stars um and. as I said I think the parody is working. combination of so much new talent in the.
league I think a good agreement with the. players association that um allows you. know for players to be well distributed. around the league. So I, you know, again, as I said, I I don't remember a. season and and then I I should add, you. mentioned it, you know, we changed the. rules around the lottery, so there's. there's zero incentive to lose. You know. what I'm what I'm saying to our general. managers in the past at a show like this. in the beginning of the season, people. would have been looking at statistics on. where you stand and what that means for. your lottery odds, no math required this. year. Just go out and win.
>> I like that you did that. I like that. you take a stand. You do evolve a lot as. a league. I think if you see a problem, you try to address it quickly because. you know the state of the league is the. most important and you guys have a. massive media rights deal looking to. take advantage of all the properties. that you're on. What are some of the. changes this season that we should get. used to seeing? Is there anything that I. saw there were some you went into the. sports gambling a little bit which I. know you have been very very very. active about since the beginning of it. all with your league. You understand. that society is going to do sports.
gambling. It has been happening for a. long time. But now we're at a state of. everybody having access to it and doing. it. You've been trying to curtail it so. it protects the league, its players, and. its fans. What have you done this year? I feel like this is a big step for you. guys actually and for the future of. gambling as a whole with leagues. >> So, you know, frankly, we're trying to. have more control over the kinds of bets. that are placed. And to your point, I. mean, it's it's so widespread at this. point, putting aside when it used to be. illegal in most places, but still was. widespread. You know, our view is we'd.
much rather have regulated, transparent. sports betting than illegal underground. sports betting, which was what the old. framework was. And so now you have. essentially 40 states that have. legalized sports betting. You have these. prediction markets now technically. called, you know, contracts, but I think. in in effect, at least the impact on the. league is the same in terms of people. making wages on what's happening on the. floor. And you have a global market of. sports betting on top of that. But I. think that gets left out of the. conversation sometime that even if we.
change the regulations in the US, you. have at least 80 other countries in the. world where you can take place bets on. NBA games. So ultimately the goal for. the league is to protect our integrity. And one of the things we've worked with. on the operators is limiting certain. kinds of bets, the ones that are easiest. to manipulate. And I think we're frankly. and we see this in all sports where guys. maybe are are are screwing around a. little bit, but they don't think it's. going to have any impact on the on the. outcome of the game. It has a core. impact on our integrity. But for. example, the first of bets, you know,
they had some issues in other sports. around first pitches and things like. that. In our league, it could be who. scores the first basket, who has the. first assist, who is the first rebound, things that arguably would have no. impact on the outcome, but something. wi-i which would go to our core. integrity if guys are screwing around. So, in working with the operators, we've. said take those kind of bets just just. off the table so that we don't have to. think about that stuff. Take the kinds. of bets where you have two-way players. who are just coming through the league. where they don't have the same. incentives as as journeyman players as.
guys on under full contracts who who who. might be tempted to screw around issues. bets around unders which are the easiest. to manipulate. A guy's going to have. under eight assists, you know, under 12. points, you know. So, I I I think. there's I'm pro regulation in this area. I again sports betting is here to stay. It's because it's global. Fans love it. Frankly, there's enormous engagement. around it. There's problem gambling. We. have to worry about that. And then we. have to focus on the integrity of what.
happens on the court. >> I like that you're playing defense. against it instead of just either being. oblivious or acting like somebody else. is going to take care of it or somebody. else will figure this out. The. government laws will figure you're. playing actual defense. I respect you. doing that. You are a forwardthinking uh. commissioner. I think you have to be. with the NBA, especially with the. demographic of your fans, which is. younger. You have to be able to reach. them all. You've said that you try to do. that. I think you creating things of. importance that you can market and sell. like your Jackie Moon I think is a big. deal too and we're a big fan of that NBA. Cup. Anytime you celebrate anything we.
like it this year even more so. Tone has. a question for you Adam. >> Yeah, Commissioner. We think that the. NBA Cup has been a tremendous success so. far. Um. >> it's mocked and ridiculed a little bit, but hey, it everything everything do be. like that. Yeah, but it's been very very. exciting and I think NBA fans have. really enjoyed it and I think it's. awesome what you're doing for the final. this year going to Hingle Fieldhouse uh. on Butler's campus in Indianapolis. That's really cool. A historic uh you. know stadium venue for the finals. Do. you continue to see yourselves playing. at different venues like that? Maybe.
Cameron Indoor, stuff like that in the. future to make it more of a special. event for the finals at least. >> Yeah, absolutely. And you know, I'm a. Duke guy, so we got to get the Cameron. Indoor as well. And and Pat, you got to. bring the show to Hinkle Fieldhouse 71. >> That would be an honor. That'd be an. honor to be able to get in there. Obviously, we love that place. >> Yeah. But to your guys' point, I mean, we're the fans um seem to love the cup. I think it creates inseason competition. in a way we haven't seen before. I mean, I we're seeing the teams are taking the. cup championship really seriously. You. know, taking a page from global soccer.
where there's multiple cups, multiple. tournaments that teams can play for. I. don't think it takes anything whatsoever. away from the Larry O'Brien trophy, but. the guys love the competition in the. season and as I said, the fans have. responded well to it and and so we're. continue to look, Pat, to your point at. other ways to innovate, other ways to. create more competition over the course. of the season. >> Yeah, if you want to make a mega bowl, we're down. Anything to make sports feel. bigger and I like what you've done with. the courts, some of the courts look ass. I mean, some of them, you know that, too. You got eyes. We all got eyes. But.
some of them have been a fantastic. touch. You just walk by an airport or a. cafeteria and it's on TV or not. cafeteria. Cafe maybe cafeteria though. I think they got a twostory one here. Have you been to these NFL studios out. here? They do NBA today out here. Adam, have you been in here? >> Yeah. No, I've been and you know you're. right down the street from the intuit. dome of course where the Clippers play. It's a that so far it's a beautiful. facility. the Dolman. I can't see which. direction it is from where you guys are, but uh in Englewood there, they've done. an amazing job as becoming a a sports. hub, you know, and you know, it's it's.
wonderful you guys are there as well. I'm here in the NBA studio, of course. >> Well, we're very thankful that you're. joining us on this NBA tipoff day. But. on TVs, whenever you have a different. court, it looks special. It feels. bigger. And whenever you make something. feel more important, I like that you did. that instead of just being status quo. And you're going to get mocked and. ridiculed by the people that are the. purest and think it doesn't matter. And. what are we going to do? Hang a banner? That was the whole conversation whenever. the Lakers beat the Pacers. It's like, no, but we're allowed to like make. something feel bigger if we want to in. sports. And also the paychecks for the.
guys down the bench that you guys did. for that to kind of give back to the. players. I think very uh unusual the way. you operate as a commissioner with the. league. I think personally, >> you know, Pat, it's interesting on on. the cups, the the idea was just as you. said, if people are passing through a. bar in an airport or whatever else and. they see that it's different color. court, they know something special is. going on. One thing I didn't anticipate. is the players feel the same way. I have. a conversation because in the regular. season, you know, some nights are cup. nights, some aren't. And I think. whatever is said in the locker room, when they go out onto that floor and. they see it's that different court, it. psyches them up for the game as well.
>> Okay, let's talk about uh some serious. stuff that is going on around your. league. I saw LeBron James get in a. helicopter. It wasn't his. >> What? >> Okay, you saw it. We all saw it. How do. you feel about the noise that is. surrounding Pablo Tori? obviously most. notable uh investigative journalist that. is has dabbled in the sports world into. your league. How do you feel about. everything that's kind of with your like. in that genre or bucket of NBA. situations? How how do we feel right now.
and how the owners feel about how. everything's going? >> Well, you know, obviously I'm not crazy. about stories focused on things that are. happening off the floor, but I get it. You know, journalists are doing their. jobs. I I would just say in the case of. LeBron and that helicopter, he has a. deal with fanatics. It's perfectly. appropriate if part of his deal is. they're going to supply a helicopter to. him. I mean, as long as it's a just a. deal between, you know, the Fanatics and. LeBron and no team is involved there, there's no rules issue there whatsoever. >> Yeah. And any negotiation that has any. of those types of benefits can happen.
And getting a helicopter uh in a city, especially that was a big nice one. >> Yeah, >> that was a nice helicopter. Can't be. getting in those little helicopters. >> Especially not him. He's Yeah. >> I mean the issue is I you guys. understand that a team you know can't. have any play any role in a one of their. players getting a deal with a separate. sponsor but if players have direct. relationships with a sponsor that's. absolutely their right. >> okay so that's a big deal is team. negotiating for player basically with. third party not.
>> that they can't do right that's not. allowed I mean in a in a cap system. because then you know whatever whatever. the limit is that they can pay that. player if a team could then come come in. and say, "But on the side, we you know, the following companies will arrange to. do deals with you." Obviously, that. would that would be an easy way to. circumvent the cap. But on the other. hand, if companies come to players all. the time, particularly players like. LeBron, top players in the league, have. huge endorsement deals. And again, that's their right. And as long as that. those are independently negotiated, perfectly appropriate.
>> Yeah, Rich Paul knows the price of gas. is only going up, too. >> Okay. So, let's assume that's a good. negotiation there to get him from Philly. to New York or wherever he needs to be. with Fanatics. LeBron James has been the. face of your league for a long, long. time. I'm 39, so I've gotten a chance to. witness the entire generation LeBron. What's next? Debbut has a question for. you, Adam. >> Yeah, absolutely. LeBron's been one def. face of the league over 20 years now. You got KD, you got Steph kind of been. that big three. Who are some of the guys. that you see maybe some prospects to. carry that torch and be the next face or.
faces of your league? >> Well, it's it's hard not to start with. Jaylen Brunson. I mean, I'll I'll be. down when they, you know, hang the. banner tonight for the championship. I. mean, here's a guy who second round. pick, you know, again, was picked up as. a free agent from Dallas and nobody. talked about him as the next superstar. in the league, but look how he's led. that team to a championship. Look at. Carl Anthony Towns, of course, on the. team. Look at OG. Look at the team they. played, San Antonio Spurs. I mean, that. Victor Webyama, I mean, people keep. saying he's still getting taller. I.
don't know if that's possible, but I. mean, he's an incredible player. You. guys mentioned uh SGAA Shay Gilus. Alexander before. He's already won one. championship. He's been in the finals. again. You know, he's he's heading. towards the finals again. You know, at. least that's what their hope is. You. know, he was in the conference finals. last year. I mean, it you got this great. new group of draft picks coming in this. year. Uh you know, of course, Cameron. Boozer coming from Duke, you know, who's. like looking like he's going to be a. superstar. AJ Deon, I mean, I could keep.
going down the list. I mean, there's so. much young talent coming into this. league. >> Yeah. Tyrese Hallebertton, gold. medalist. >> Tyrese back. You know, we missed him for. a year. >> Your schedule makers put him on the zone. against Pelicans his first game back. You guys have motivated him more than. ever, and we would like to say thank. you. >> That's what we were trying to do. >> Yeah. Yeah. Thank you for doing that. When. >> he's going to he's going to he's going. to play his way back onto ESPN. >> Yeah. Well, that's right, Tyrese. Good. luck, dude. Good luck. You better get. some buckets, Tyrese. We'd like to see. that. Wearing my highs right now, by the. way. NBA tip. Hey,
>> nice. >> Some new ones coming out soon, I think. >> Yeah, I think today he had some new ones. come out. We're big fans of him. We love. what the Pacers do for the city whenever. they're good. So, I think that is why we. have become such big fans of your league. and obviously your hospitality is. outrageous. It's NBA tipoff day. Today, the season starts for brand new chase to. the top of the mountain. Who will top. with the Knicks or the Knicks go back to. back? What a storyline. They were. dominant last year. Fun to watch. Are. they going to be able to get that lucky.
again? Feels like that is a. >> No, they. >> lucky. >> Lucky. >> Oh, listen to this guy. >> It's a long season. >> Yeah, you can't get lucky. I guess. >> well into June. That's not luck. >> Yeah, you're right. But there was no. Tyrese Hallebert and uh that that. certainly needs to be talked about. I. loved watching that Knicks team. I loved. watching the run. I love following the. season. More cities are about to. experience what we get to experience in. Indiana whenever the Pacers are hot. Connor has a question for you about a. hot topic, I assume, around the. association. Yeah, Commission, you just. mentioned how many superstars there are,
and it feels like now is the best time, if if not ever, to expand the league. Where are we at with expansion? I know. Vegas and Seattle are kind of the two. hot cities as far as where new teams. will be. What is kind of the latest when. it comes to adding teams to the league, and how will that work when that. inevitably gets done when it comes to. expansion, draft, and things of that. nature? >> Sure. So, you know, we're still a few. seasons away from actual expansion. taking place, but as you said, you know,
we we've been public about the fact that. we're looking closely at Las Vegas and. Seattle. Um, Las Vegas seems to have an. insatiable appetite for sports and. entertainment. Um, several groups now. are thinking of even building a brand. building a brand new arena in town, you. know, which, you know, at least the. presentation is maybe the the most. spectacular arena ever. Um, Seattle has. a great arena. There's a great NBA. tradition there. So, we're looking. closely at returning to Seattle. You. know, I've mentioned maybe down the road. there's Mexico City. Um, largest city in.
North America, like a burgeoning huge. basketball uh base of fans in Mexico, large Mexican-American population. So, you know, bunch of different. opportunities out there and and you. know, we're discussions are ongoing. about Las Vegas and Seattle right now. >> I just learned in real time, I think. everybody saw it, Mexico City's bigger. than New York. >> Huge. >> Oh, yeah. It's 22 million people. >> Oh my gosh, >> that's amazing. We need to get down. there. That is phenomenal. I did not.
know that. I apologize for not knowing. that. Uh. >> I we should get down there. >> 22 million people in. >> shorter flight from New York to Mexico. City than from New York to LA. So you. can see how that could work in our. league. >> Wow. >> Wow. What? I don't think I understand. enough. Do you know how far San. Francisco is? Forget it. Let's move. along. That's every time I fly from New. York to San Francisco, I'm reminded. that's a long way. >> It's out there. It's like California is. far and then San Fran's like, "Actually, let's go a little bit. Let's go a little. bit further." Beautiful. Whenever you. get there, but it's far out here. Mexico.
City. I didn't know they were doing it. like that. I had no idea. Okay. >> Yeah. And they're talking about building. a new arena there in Mexico in Mexico. City. So, I mean, that's not in the. immediate plans, but but down the road, I think there's a real potential there. >> We need to get down to Mexico City. We'll try to do that as soon as. possible. I guess that's why the NFL. goes there. So, yeah. Okay. It all makes. sense now. Everything's starting to make. sense. We should have known this. earlier. Last question about making. sense, and I know you don't love it. every time we bring it up, but the. Grinch happened. Go ahead, Ty. >> Yeah, Kamish, we have to bring it up, quite frankly, because um you know, each.
year that goes on, the NFL kind of. continues to I I suppose you could say. encroach on the NBA's turf in terms of. Christmas Day games, Christmas Eve. games, pretty much just games that week. of Christmas. Is there any thought and I. I get it. You guys were there first. So, you know, maybe you don't want to do it, but there it used to be really special, you know, when you would wake up on. Christmas morning and you knew you were. just going to have all the stars all day. for the NBA. And now you guys are. battling with multiple games, you know,
that the NFL has. Has there been any. thought uh to like maybe move that. around so you guys still have kind of. the the lone spotlight around there? or. is it one of those things where, you. know, competition's good and and we'll. go headto-head with the NBA on. Christmas? >> Well, I, you know, in terms of any. thought, I mean, of course, that's the. NFL's decision to to play on Christmas, but competition is good for you. And. what what you're seeing happening in. terms of media television viewing is, and you guys are at the epicenter of it,
live sports continues to separate itself. from all other forms of programming. So. even as opposed to the old days when. maybe the NBA had Christmas day that. there were lots of other forms of of of. entertainment programming that was. outraging us. Now it's you know live. sports are front and center. So in a way. doesn't surprise me of course that the. NFL has shifted to Christmas day. But I. I think it's a sort of a rising tide. lifts all boats. I think sports fans are. coming to their TVs on Christmas Day.
You know there's still a large audience. out there for the NFL and for us. So. again, I I I do think the competition. keeps you on your toes. You know, I'm a. big fan of the NFLs and and and I have. no issue. If they if they want to play. on Christmas Day, good for them. >> I mean, yeah, but you you drop a couple. games on Christmas Eve or. >> the NFL's got one on Christmas Eve now, too. >> Oh, no. >> But also, when people come to their TVs, they start, you know, now with social. media, there's they're they're. constantly getting notifications like go. to that game and, you know, and I'm sure.
you guys all do it. bouncing around a. lot going. >> the NFL brings a lot more viewers to the. television their televisions as well in. Christmas. So I I think it's good for. the the health of the industry. >> Oh, I didn't even think about the quad. box. Well, that's on Netflix, though. >> Mhm. >> Well, they got a lot of big changes. going on. >> No Quad Box on Christmas. >> No Quad Bucks home on Christmas. All. right. Maybe on Christmas Eve. Adam, thank you for taking time. Good luck on. this upcoming season. Last season was. phenomenal, man. We had such a blast. covering it, following along. Thank you.
for the hospitality to you and all your. teams and uh good luck the rest of the. way. We are hoping for no injuries for. anybody. >> That's right. >> Me too. And I'll see you guys at Hinkle. Fieldhouse December 11th. >> Okay. >> Yes, you will. NBA Cup Pacers are going. to win that thing, ladies and gentlemen. That's the commissioner of the NBA, Adam. Silver. >> He's way too nice to us. He's a good. man. >> Yeah. Great. >> He's a good man. As we were in the. middle of it, I was like boom. We got to. bring up the uh the helicopter thing for. sure, you know.
>> Mhm. >> And then him saying, "Listen, got to. negotiate to do a fanatics.". >> Yeah, makes sense. >> You want me to do LeBron James? >> Oh, I'm the commissioner. I'm supposed. to say, "Hey, LeBron, I'd like to.". >> Also, we can pretend like LeBron. couldn't afford his own helicopter if he. really needed to. >> Well, allegedly he wouldn't though, right? Like, isn't that the thing about. LeBron is he doesn't spend anything? >> He said he is cheap. But he also said. recently, maybe last night, like, hey, he's getting exhausted, kind of tired. making that trip. So, he's probably. going to just find a place in Philly to. stay. >> We reached out to source says within the.
camp uh whenever it was uh announced. that he was going to be commuting and. everything like that. >> And the response at that time was nobody. knows if that's going to be what it is. >> He doesn't even know. I mean, nobody. So. that was kind of the response from. source. within the organization over there at. Clutch. Uh it sounded like they're all. trying to figure we're hey we're. figuring this out in real time. We've. he's never played for like leagueman. He's never played in Philadelphia. He's. trying to figure it out as he goes. He. just wants to win a title while also. benefiting from the next chapter of his.
life which is going to be a lot of. business. You go over to New York, Philadelphia area when you've been in. Cleveland, Miami. A lot of business in. Miami. Cleveland obviously not an. epicenter of business. When LeBron was. there, I assume there was a lot. Los. Angeles out here, you got a lot of. business going on. Now he's getting East. Coast business as well. LeBron set. himself up very well for the future. business-wise. I appreciate and respect. the way he's gone about it, but that. Fanatics helicopter. taking off with Fanatics. He used to be. owner of Is there some sort of Right.
>> Yep. >> So then that gets brought up into the. whole Hey, wasn't there a tree thing. happening? Like. >> he stayed at Big Dom's place in the. meantime. Hey, Big Dom's not going to. tell you nothing. If he was sleeping at. Big Dom's, you never know about it. >> I agreed. Unless there's a camera around. cuz he's jump in front of it. >> Let's go to some headlines around the. rest of the NFL. I have seen a lot of. Big Dom. >> Always do. >> Maybe we need to see more Big Dom this. year with how everything's going. >> True. >> I wonder if Big Dom is going to have. anything to say about they're going to.
We talked about this last night. JC. Kelsey very close to the uh entire. situation over there in Philadelphia. He. said a couple times like they followed. the protocol. Whatever the protocol is, they fall. You got doctors, you got a. lot of you got a lot of people that are. this is a Super Bowl MVP franchise. quarterback. They love Jaylen, too. Like. the organization has given and paid him. a lot of money. They're not going to be. trying to do anything that is. jeopardizing this person's life. So, I. think what Kelsey was saying last night. is like whatever the protocol was for. what that was, they followed it exactly. And there is a protocol exactly for.
that. And our entire take was like. they're going to investigate all that. Let's assume it was whatever it is. That's scary that that can happen to. somebody. Crazy. I mean that that is. >> how about them growing seriani like he. was the one making the decision. >> We put out a statement. >> You want me to read the whole statement. right here? I I don't It has all this. These are very serious things that I. should not be talking about cuz we. assume whenever it was announced that. Siri was going to talk yesterday and we. were in the uh Blue Compass RV that is. like kind of the production room there. >> Beautiful place. >> We assume that somebody was coming out. with a doctor thing maybe even.
stethoscope on there. for sure. >> Just to fully, hey, >> this is the person that did it all. Instead, they got a closeup on Siri. He's just sitting there with with a mic. It's like, man, >> I'm a football coach. >> That's a tough spot to go out there with. all the superficial. And then it went I. asked uh I texted Dr. David Chow. >> Sure. >> And uh I said like, "Hey, can you give. me something on this?" He goes, "Very. unusual for go from superficial to. deep." Like he gave me, but these are. not things I should be saying, but like. just a little bit of a follow-up. He's.
like, "They followed the procedure. I. assume they followed the procedure. after he was in the NFL for a long time. It's like the NFL has all these things. like. >> this is how this goes because there's. probably been terrible situations in the. past. This one very new though. So I. think that's why people are like we. don't think we've ever heard this with. an international trip involved. That's a. lot of time on a plane. >> quarterback too. >> Super Bowl franchise. >> QB quarterback. It's like yeah that is. that's scary. Happy he's okay. Speaking. of being okay, uh, DraftKings is doing a.
promotion today that I think I think. after being explained what it is a. couple times, >> couple times. >> It took me a couple times to kind of. understand this. I think we're going to. get a bang for our buck here. Okay, we. started doing some math here. Now, you. have to opt in and if you're of age, coast to coast, come join us on the best. sports book on earth, DraftKings, if you. agree to be responsible and not an. [ __ ] Okay? Just like Adam Silver. said, and there's people out there that. hate the gambling. Sports gambling is a. part of our existence. They're very mad.
about it. They are uh they hate it. They. think it is the um. >> downfall. >> of society, the abomination of sport. Like there's people that feel that way. I respect that you feel that way. Now, I. would like to speak from our. perspective. Sports gambling has been. happening forever. I'm from Pittsburgh. It has been happening in Pittsburgh. It's been happening in all these towns. It is a used to be a pretty seed type. operation. Now, there's been some very. trustworthy, honorable bookies that have. been operating illegally for a very long. time who have their group of people that. they kind of pay out and everything's.
copacetic. But the problems that you see. in gambling happening to people who uh. get addicted and spiral out of control. when it was happening before all this. was happening, I mean, it was bad. So, just like Adam Silver said, I I think. the proper mindset that we have had is. this is going to happen now. It's. regulated and we got people looking. after you. But you as a human before you. do this as an adult, what you have to. be, you have to just focus and. understand you're not going to get rich. off of this. This is just strictly to. have a little bit more action in the.
game. So don't be an [ __ ] okay? Don't be uh wasting your future on. something you think's going to happen in. a basketball game tonight. Can't be. doing it. We're just sprinkling here. We're just sprinkling on this to make. the game a little bit better. So don't. be an [ __ ] for all of us, please. But. on that note, responsibly $10 bet after. you opt in on any NBA game day uh game. tonight, you'll get $1 for every three. made for that $10 bet. You can opt into. this three times. You can do three 10. different bets, $10 bets. $1 for every.
three-pointer made. Projections 75 to 76. >> uh three-pointers made. So you get $1 in. free bets. It should be about 70ish, maybe even more with the way guys are. shooting. Could be the highest of all. time. So that's in free bets. So. technically you can do this three times. $30 in bets potential projection 70 in. free bets let alone you hit that bet. So. feels like they are trying to give away. money even though this is a bit wordy. tone. This this feels a bit wordy for. the opening day but I like that we're. going to be paying attention to every.
long range bomb that falls. >> Yeah, it's a bit wordy but it's fun. And. like you said like it's not like you're. going to you don't it's not guaranteed. that you lose those bets either. The $10. bets that you make on each game if you. do choose to. No guarantee that you're. going to win those bets either. But no, I mean it's if you if you opt in and you. and you get 12 threes in a game and you. get 12 free dollars for whatever bet. coming forward. Yeah, it's a nice little. it's a nice little play today. >> Shout out to DK. Remember, gamble. responsibly. Don't be an [ __ ] Hour. two will be on the other side. We have. Steve Young joining us. They will not be. gambling. >> No, no, no, no, no.
>> Cuz Christopherson said we ain't doing. it anymore. >> Smart. >> And they say you got it. Going forward. though, Steve Young joins us. What a. legend. We'll see you on the other side. Belle Sessions, who got here at 3:00. a.m. this morning, was the winner. Her. ticket was pulled. And you thought to. yourself immediately, "What?" Bel, >> I knew I couldn't do it. And he was next. to me and he said that he could. So, we're splitting it. >> Okay. And so Bill Sessions made the. decision to talk to my man Henry Silver.
who been. >> Henry got here yesterday at 6:00 p.m. He's been waiting for this moment. Now. Henry, you told her that you can make. it. Why do you think that's the case? Have you ever kicked a ball before? >> I've kicked the ball before. I've played. soccer my whole life. I think I can do. it. >> This kick is for 150,000. You said you. would split it in half, right? Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, let's make it 200,000. If you.
make it, you will both get 100,000. Where are you from, Henry? >> I'm from Fischers, Indiana. >> Who's your favorite NFL team? >> The Colts. >> Hell yeah, dude. Hell yeah. Come on, bro. Hell yeah. To hell with the. Falcons. Uh, that that was rude. They. didn't deserve that. I like that. HENRY, 33 YARDS. 100,000 FOR YOU. 100,000 FOR. HER. $200,000 TO HURRICANE RELIEF. 400,000 ON THE LINE. HENRY, ARE YOU. READY? >> OF COURSE. HAVE. >> YOU EVER SAID ANYTHING BAD ABOUT. KICKERS? >> OF COURSE.
>> Shut up. Let's go. Now, here in Athens, Georgia, it would be beautiful if. $400,000 would be up for grabs. Why. don't we double it because the Georgia. Bulldogs? >> So, eight $800,000 kick right here, Henry. But what I want to let YOU KNOW IS. YOU'RE NOT GETTING A SECOND OPPORTUNITY. I don't CARE IF THIS ENTIRE PLACE STARTS. chanting for a second kick. One kick, 800,000 racks, 400,000 TO HURRICANE.
RELIEF. 400,000 to you two SPLIT 200. GRAND EACH. HENRY SILVER FROM INDIANA. FOR BELL SESSIONS. >> Let's go, Henry. COME ON IN. >> OH MY. GOD.
Let me see this. Let me see this. Henry. That was amazing. >> I mean, he walked in like Henry. Henry. >> Congratulations, Henry. Congratulations, Bill. Dude, congratulations, Georgia. What a morning. College game day is the.
greatest. College football is amazing. Bill, you just won $200,000. You're. >> the following program is a collection of. stooges talking about happenings in the. sports world. It is meant to be comedic. informative. The opinions expressed on. this show do not necessarily reflect the. beliefs of their peers, their boss or. ESPN. There may be some cuss words. because that's how humans into the real. world talk. If you are a young, please.
seek permission before watching any. further. Hey, let's go. >> This show stinks and the fact that you. listen, we are very, very thankful for. the line with a gorgeous assist. >> The alltime leading tackler for the. Green Bay Packers, you. stop. Damn it. >> Your friend, tell a friend something. nice could change their life.
sports. >> Hello, beautiful people and welcome back. to sunny Southern California on this NBA. tip off Tuesday, October 20th, 2026. Hour two of the program begins now. >> FOOTBALL IS MAGICAL. WEEK six of the NFL. season wrapped up last night in glorious. Santa Clara, California as the San. Francisco 49ers remain unbeaten and beat. the Washington Commanders. It's been a.
fantastic weekend of football as we look. ahead to another great. series of clashes on a football grid. iron that will determine who will live. on forever and who will be forgotten. about, who will have to transfer, who. will live on in immortality, who will be. champion, who will be ass every single. time they strap it up. We get closer to. the answer as week six of the NFL season. wraps up in this 18week NFL year. >> Oh yeah. >> What did Jim Nance call it? the quarter.
pole here. >> Uh that is certainly where we're living. and we're lucky to be doing as such. Had. NFL field pass last night as we were on. the end zone and the boys are up in the. booth getting a boots on the ground type. feel of what this San Francisco 49ers. team and their faithful can be. Glorious. night in Levi Stadium. Beautiful stadium. and a hell of a game. We got a chance to. catch up with Debo before it kicked off. We can't wait for him to get back. healthy. I think the Niners are excited. for him to get back healthy. Mike Evans. went down with a little Achilles.
soreness. Brock Pury was surgical. Christian McCaffrey was all the way. back. And the Niners defense hits people. through the ground. They also go helmet. to helmet on you and a ref will actually. pick up the flag and say, "You know. what? That's football, baby." I didn't. mind that at all. There were certainly. some Commanders fans that were not. thrilled about the calls. It was a. physical football game. It was a fast uh. football game and it was a classic. football game that we were lucky to be a. part of. Nine-year NFL vet, Darius J. Butler is here. D Butt, what did you. learn last night? Every hit was big.
>> Yeah, that was the main takeaway from. that game. It's a physical, violent ball. game. And I think the best illustration. was that was Mustafa. We saw it start. the game. He came down as safety for the. 49ers. Big third down play early, hit. the absolute shite out of Stfane Diggs, and that's how he finished the game with. a big time run stuff. Big- time PBU. against uh Burks at the end as well. But. they were setting the tone with the. physicality. defense for the 49ers. showed up and sealed the ball game. >> Yeah, I like what the Niners are doing. Obviously, health is going to be the.
convo around them until they win a Super. Bowl. Last night, they were celebrating. the alumni and we have one of them. joining us right now. It's not the toxic. table at Boston Conor and at Tai Schm. Good to see you, boys. Good to see you. as well. >> Well, it's not one half of the hammer. down Cowboys AP Tone. It's not you, Tone, even though it's good to see you. >> Great to see you. >> Hey, you look great out here in Southern. California. >> Thank you. It's good for my skin. >> joining. It is good for your skin. I. heard you've been working out, too. You. were in a hotel gym. >> Yeah, yesterday. Not today, but. yesterday. >> Yeah, today would have been tough. It. would have been a real display of. discipline. Whoever was in there today.
is a nice travel from San Fran to. Southern California. Last night, we said. we got a chance to see some San. Francisco 49er alumni. Saw Frank Core. >> Yes. Caught up Frank. >> Love seeing Frank Gore. Great to see. him. Legends galore. There was Joe. Montana was got a big time pop. You know. who came out last though? Oh, >> you know who got the uh the final. ovation? It's a man who won 10 for 10 on. his college game day pitch. May is a. three-time Super Bowl champion, one of. the icons of our sport, and also a.
legendary businessman, friend of the. program now from my understanding, which. we are honored to say, >> Steve Young. >> Steve, >> how you doing, bro? >> What's up, boys? >> Dude, good to see you, man. Last night. was epic. You getting introduced. I I to. be honest, I've never seen a team intro. 300 guys. They had alumni night and they. had maybe 200 guys come back. Felt like. it was a big family, big community. Did. does that happen often with the NerS?
And what is it like whenever you guys. all get around each other? >> Goes back to Eddie Dearlo. Remember when. I first met him, first time I walked. into Sam, he gave me he gave me a hug, gave me a kiss with his beard, you his. heavy beard face, scratched my face. He's like, "Welcome to the family." And. that's how it was. And then the York. family now has been they've re. re-energized that in the same way. And. so I think when mo for all the alumni. around the league, this was one that's. been very authentic. Not just do you. love your guys, but you love your. organization just because of how they. treated you, how they made you feel.
Bill Walsh was the first one uh Pat back. in the day that talked about players are. my partners. Like I coach, you play, but. we're together. We're in it together. And it made the spirit of it, right? It's like he was ahead of his time. And. I think that we all felt that. And now. Kina Turner who was the guy like Kina. was the guy that the kindest. guy in the world but the most vicious. guys like Dr. Jackekal Mr. High but he. was somebody that through the years. worked for the 49ers had been around for. 40 years and was beloved. And so of all.
the times when everyone's going to show. up it was it was yesterday. >> Yeah. And it was a great night. Uh I. think the Niners faithful showed up in a. big way. We don't get to experience it. because I've always lived on the Eastern. Standard Time zone. 5:00 prime time game. on a Monday workday getting to Santa. Clara. At the beginning, we saw a lot of. seats and I was like very worried, but. as you look at the clock, it's like, man, it's five. If they have jobs to. afford these tickets, I mean, how the. hell are they going to be able? That. place got very loud in a hurry. It was a.
great environment, great atmosphere, and. I think that team is certainly something. they can rally around. What did you see. last night from the Niners that get you. excited, and what are your thoughts on. this team as a whole? Well, you know, you talk about in the offseason Fred. Warner was coming back from injury, Nick. Bose was coming back from injury and. Brock really optimized his game. It felt. like Fred led the way in the the. viciousness of of of the preseason. Remember when Brock and Fred actually. got in an argument in in training camp? I mean, that's two guys that you know, you don't think you get an argument. because that was how vicious and real it.
was. And so, they spent September just. abusing everybody else who wasn't ready. to play as much ready to play. And now. they find themselves 6 and0. They still. look it's they've got holes, they've got. injury, and they got all kinds of. issues. But who's going to, you know, with the as it's playing out with the. Rams now down, the Seahawks down a. little bit, like who's going to beat the. 49ers? You say the Bills, the Chiefs, there's like pick two or three teams. That's it. >> So, he's like, can they go the distance? There's going to be three or four teams. that can have something to say about it, and we'll wait till, you know, it's.
going to be a little while till they get. there, and we'll have to play it out. But, you got to love where they are. right now. I think you judge. championship teams down the stretch by, you know, their defense. Do they have a. championship defense? Niners certainly. do that. And do they have a quarterback? Well, I think so. Debut has a question. for you, Steve. >> Yeah, Brock Party's going from Mr. Relevant to one of the best quarterbacks. in the league just past Lamar Jackson. and have the best passer rating ever. What is it about his game specifically. uh that you love? >> When you like do you trust him? like.
he's the most trustworthy. guy. Now, you might say, "Well, Josh. Allen or Patrick Mahomes, that's fine.". But as far as just showing up game to. game, ready to go play and make good. things happen without having to be. magical or crazy or like just call a. play and run it, there's like that. dude's going to good things are going to. happen. In fact, when he throws an. interception, you're like, "Well, bro, what that's that's not in the that does. not compute." And think of yesterday. just efficient and smart and and and and.
and it feels like you can't stop it. First half of that game like the 49ers. offense looks like they're playing, you. know, taking candy from a baby. They. made I felt like the Commanders were. asleep. Like what are are they even. playing defense? And I think that's not. the Commanders. I think that's how good. and efficient the 49ers are. >> Yeah. And you talked about the holes. The wide receiver thing is crazy what. they go through seemingly every year. George KD being back huge for the. success of the team. You use being. healthy obviously spectacular. Trent. Williams outrageous. They're stars.
galore. Can they stay healthy is the. only question. But with Brock Birdie, do. you have to be 100% healthy? I don't. think so. This guy has elevated his. game, elevated his team. And you said. this at BYU about uh Bear Bachmire, which we'll talk about here in a matter. of seconds. Brock Birdie doesn't get the. credit for how active and mobile he is. Steve, I know you love that. Obviously, one of the greatest athletic. quarterbacks of all time. Brock can move. and the way he navigates the pocket is. special. He's a real threat. I think uh. through the air and the ground.
>> Well, he's found that, right? And I. think that's how the game is today. You. have there's too many free yards for a. quarterback to go get the game changed. when the when the when they changed the. rules 10 years ago when they said you. can't lead with your helmet. It just. made the game, you know, the defense put. a really in a jam a lot more space and. quarterbacks have have jumped into that. void and taken those extra yards and now. the dynamic dual threat quarterback is. the prototype. And so Brock had to work. that into his game. He was so efficient. and so smart in processing that he.
wanted to do his what he's best at, sit. there and process. But there's times. when it's not time to process anymore. We got to go and there's and there's. free yards to go get as he as he did. yesterday in a big third and like 11. and just go get it. And uh and I thought. that's where I in the offseason he. optimized the speed. He's he's quicker. He's a I mean, he did some things. I. don't whoever trained him, he did a good. job because now he is a he is a threat. He's nifty. Like he's not he's probably. not going to outrun you, but he is quick. and uh and in the pocket. You said it,
Pat. He's a guy that's really got that. the whole awareness part of his game. The idea as I process, I'm so present. I'm so aware. That's what Patrick. Mahomes has, right? It's like he's. played in his backyard, you know, and. that way I I compare the two in their. presence on the field. They both feel. like they're playing in the backyard. >> Yeah, that was what you were great at as. well. So, coming from you means a lot. more than any of us. Debo, what were. those super speed training things that. you and I used to do every offseason? What What could Brock Perie have done to.
get faster or quicker? Cuz that's the. stuff I did. Obviously, I don't want to. give away what I did. Usually in the NFL. it's about staying healthy, being. nimble, being flexible. I'm sure he was. doing a lot of training offseason, maybe. some explosive lift, but plyometrics for. me at least that's the game changer for. athletes. Obviously quarterbacks talk. about. >> what are those? What are those? The box. jumps and. >> I mean essentially it's getting off the. ground as quick as possible, hitting the. ground and getting off exploding. Obviously jumping on if you see like. Miles Gear, you'll see Miles Garrett do. a 60x box jump but then a landing light.
as a feather. So, training those kind of. small muscles, quick firing, quick t. twitches. Uh, that's what Brock Party, I. think, did a lot of in the offseason. >> Yeah, Steve, you saw me and you I ran a. route for you up on the set. I'm still. doing these pliers. I'm still doing it. like it was. >> Yeah. No, you you look, you left Provo. the other day and everyone's like, "Dude's in shape." But I said a lot of. other things about you that really good, but one of the thing I heard is that. dude's in shape. So, I mean, that's just. that's just what I heard, right? I just. hanging around town getting my ice.
cream, you know, whatever else was going. on. Like the free ice cream in the. stadium. It's like Pat's in shape, man. >> Thank you. I'm happy to hear that, man. Cuz I don't get to hear these things. Obviously, these are happening. >> I know. I I should be your bag, man. I. got you. I got. >> You should be Everybody's bag, man. Brother, you're the man. Uh 10 for 10 on. your picks. Outrageous. Especially with. how insane the weekend was. Congratulations. I I think Lee Corso did. this on his last day. I I think his last. game day he went perfect. This is such. an abnormality in college football.
world. It was great to see how confident. you were. It was also great to see you. embrace the way you were by the entirety. of BYU. Did you enjoy that? What did you. What were your expectations going into. game day? And man, congrats on getting. perfect picks throughout the entire day. >> I loved it. I was I I love being, you. know, you guys having me on. It was uh. it was this has been building for a. while. You think about all the all the. schools that might struggle in the NIL. era where you have to pay people. Wait,
we're going to pay our players and we're. going to pay them how much is that BYU. would struggle with that. But they we've. jumped in and we've said to ourselves, look, we're in the Big 12. We got to. compete. And if we're going to compete, let's go win it. And so in that way, we. found our own kind of BYU way to, you. know, jump into the NL mess and find. Kehlani Sitake, who is like beloved, and. the players stay for him. they hang out. take less money to be with him is like. that's the spirit of what BYU is. building and I think the the campus.
feels it and you felt it on Saturday. morning when they camped out since. Tuesday people were like just rabid. livid I mean rabbid about just the love. of what they're building what it feels. like the you know and we're in the in. the upper echelons we're not just. punching above our weight anymore like. some people have us number one right now. and legitimately like we have a. quarterback that really like quarter. unit he's one of one, bro. He's like, "Who is this guy?" So, for me to come on. Saturday morning, jump into that what. I'd felt growing and, uh, and you know,
like I said, there's no five squads that. have more wins than us in the last six. years. That's Georgia, Alabama, Ohio. State, Notre Dame, uh, and I want to say. Oregon. Like that that's it. We have. like that next is us. And so, we've been. we've been building. And so now all of a. sudden I think sat Saturday was was like. for everyone else in the nation maybe a. little bit of a coming out party but. like overnight success over many many. years and uh I feel like we're in the. thick of it. That's super fun. >> Had some tough moments last year. You. know you lose Texas Tech down there.
Bearer gets hurt. You have the the big. loss. The all those experiences though I. think put Bayer to where he was this. year. I woke up I didn't know who I was. going to pick going in to Saturday. I. woke up and felt that atmosphere and I. thought to myself about what Bear had. been through. Watched a couple of his I. watched a highlight reel of Bear. Bachmire before I I left the bus in the. morning and I was like, I'm picking BYU. Then I heard you were doing your fifth. year. I didn't even know you were. potentially eligible still. That that. really just hammers it on top. That was.
a special day there in Provo. That was a. special game day for us. I want to let. you know that. I know that you know the. BYU community and you know uh the energy. and the hype around the football uh team. and the organization and everything. around pro you lifted my hand as if I. won some championship just so you. like Joe Frasier Muhammad Ali. >> as you lifted my hand I was like okay. we're in it. >> I did it I did it. >> I I thought that was funny too I'm like.
oh I I don't know if I was supposed to. do that. >> we were living there pretty good though. >> we were living We were living it. And. you know, look, you talk about Bear, you. talk about uh these unique people in our. on our squad. And I think that's what. Kehlani does. He like gives them the. space to be themselves. And then how. good is this kid? I said, I I that. morning I said, "Look, I thought. Trinidad Chandler was the best player in. the in the nation. I thought he's the. most talented and he's going to go prove. it. But by tonight, you're going to be. talking about Bear Bachmar because he's. the kind of kid that he's ready. He can.
grow into it." And what how do you. define him? What do you say he looks? Who does he? Someone said Tim Tibo. I'm. like, come on, man. Like, yeah, Tim, but. like the dude can can rip it down the. field. >> Like he can he can do this. He can like. I How good of a passer can he become? Can he become a pro at number 47? Could. he jump into a pro squad and wear number. 47 and and and do that? Like the I love. Bear Bachmire wearing 47 speaks to. Keelani and what BYU is. So, I think.
it's it's a lot of cool stuff. >> Fun day in Provo. Legendary day. And uh. we're very grateful that you joined us. And before we get back to some NFL. conversation, I need to know what do I. need to be looking at when I'm making my. pick. I know you guys Borman's not. allowed to bet anymore, but I I still am. responsibly. Obviously, we're all going. to do it responsibly. Christopherson. said no more for the LDS community, but. we we could still do it. What are you. looking at when you're making these. picks? Is this Hey, Steve. >> I I don't know how closely you follow. college football. Predicting predicting. obviously, but predicting college.
football impossible. It is impossible, Steve. And especially five of the top. seven teams lost on Saturday. First time. ever you go 10. It's absurd what you. did. I hope you know that. >> Uh I you look, I I think what I tend to. do is look at who's coaching. To me, the. NFL today is really built uh off of the. innovative uh offensive minds that are. just ahead of the game. you know, the. Pacqua Shans, the Shawn McVeys, the Andy. Reeds, the Shawn Payton, and now more. from those guys trees are doing are.
infiltrating all over the league. And I. and I see it in college as well. I mean, we have Aaron Rodrik who's a offensive. coordinator. You can see his dynamic, unique, even the trick plays. You call. them trick plays, these cool plays they. come up with week to week. It's like I I. to me, if I was going to gamble, I'd. like I'd bet on the guys that are. calling those plays like Will Stein, you. know, at Kentucky. like why they're not. going to win every game, but in big. games they they tend to like Lane. Keifin, they they they're innovative. They're they're they're not they're not.
stuck. They're like looking for the next. thing and they get their players. energized around that. And so I tend to. believe that, you know, people are. incending. When I say when Kucky's. ascending, I think they're ascending. because their coach is innovative. They. got the the players to do it. And I'm. going to I'm going to I'm going to bet. on them, you know. >> All right. I'm going to do that going. forward. I should never get one wrong. That's good news. I'm very happy that I. get a chance to do that. I uh thank you. for spreading the game to me. I might. have perfect week every single week. going forward. Let's act accordingly. >> Okay. Let's act accordingly as we go.
Hopefully, Steve will continue to help. us. You just mentioned a name a name. right there about being a great play. caller in Shawn Payeyton. A lot of. questions about that right now. Tone has. a question for you, Steve. >> Yeah, Steve, I do. And you obviously had. one of the greatest play callers of all. time in Bill Walsh. And you mentioned. Shawn Peyton there and the the the. conversation about play calling and. being innovative. Were you surprised. this year when when Shawn Payeyton gave. up the play calling and how big of a. deal do you think it is for Bo Nicks to. now have Shawn Peyton back in his ear uh. moving forward for the season? >> So, it's interesting. There are there uh.
there's comparisons to Bill. Bill would. give people other, you know, he loved. empowering his assistant coaches. He. like Mike Hongren went to Green Bay. He. gave him everything he knew, boxed it up. in a repository of all the speeches, all. the installations, everything, paper. based, audiobased, video based, and gave. it a box and says, "Go be great." That's. his spirit of how he thought about it. And I think that Sean has the spirit. I've talked to Shawn about this, even. though he doesn't necessarily coach. under Bill Walsh. He has a a a picture. of Bill Walsh, who he spent the summer.
with when he took the job in New. Orleans. And it really kind of he sees. him as a godfather of of his how he sees. it. And so I think in the empowerment, Sean wants to empower his young. assistants. That's just how that's the. spirit of Bill Walsh. But there's also a. time and a place. And if it doesn't work. perfectly, Bill will be the first one to. say, "Look, bro, you need to take a. break. I'm coming back in." And it'll be. a huge thing because, you know, sometimes you people need two iterations. of it or three iterations. You look at. Liam Cohen, look at people out of the. that are coming through that kind of.
tree and like they you know, you like. who are these guys? And it's because. they have this they they've seen it. They know what it looks like. And so I I. I think Sean taking it back right now is. like, look, we're we're in a tight spot. We got to get better. And I know I can. do it. And I I appreciate him doing. that. I know Sean doesn't want to. like abuse or do anything to his. assistant coaches. He doesn't want He. doesn't want to show them up. Doesn't. want But there's a time and a place. And. Bill had a sharp knife, too. Man, when I. would meet with Bill Walsh, he'd pull me. up to his office and you thought the.
meeting went really well. Like, yeah, I. think it went really well. And then you. got blood coming down your side. You're. like, "H how did I how why am I bleeding. coming out?" Cuz the dude was subtle. Like he was careful. Like he was he did. it. He had a lot of different ways to do. it. And you think about who I was. coaching with after Mike Shanahan was. Kyle's dad. Mike Shannon was all of. that. Everything that Kyle is, Mike was. And uh and and Kyle got it from him. So. like the spirit of what's happened in. Denver, I think, is righteous, right? It's like it's not some coach and like. you suck. I'm going to take it back.
It's like look, you're not it's not. going well. I'm not going to blame you. for it, but I know I got to I got to. stand for this. And I think the Broncos. will thrive. I just I look, there's You. said to me, "Look, Steve, you can go. back and play. You get your fifth year, right? You can go back and play anywhere. you want. I run down the street first to. Kyle, but I go to Shawn Shawn McVey, Sean Payton, and and andy Reid." Like, I. would sprint to them. Andy Reid was my. JV coach at BYU, if you can believe it. >> Wow. It's crazy. >> Uh so, but those are the guys. Those are. the innovators. Those are the guys that. were innovating back when the rule.
changes in 2018. >> They innovated and now they people. caught up with them. And you know what. they did? They innovated again and again. and again. And that's why I love them. And I think Sean Se John's that guy. >> I can't wait to see some play that. Patrick Mahomes and the boys run. >> and Andy Reed's going to come out and. say last year in this was Sean uh uh. Steve Young and uh JV BYU back in the. because it does feel like what is old is. new again with now offensive systems. We're seeing it in college. we're seeing. in the NFL feels a little bit old school.
with the mix of the modern NFL. Now, follow-up question about the Shawn. Peyton, Bon Knicks, Davis Webb thing. Allegedly, they tra changed some. terminology going into I think I saw a. report that maybe some terminology got. changed to either make Davis Webb more. comfortable. So, now they're bouncing. back to the Shawn Payeyton terminology. Jay Glazer was reporting with Bo Nicks, young quarterback now who has Shawn. Peyton as the head coach. Shawn Payeyton. picked Bo Knicks to draft him because. how much he loved him directly. Moved on. from Russell Wilson. Eight what 60 or 70.
million dollars in dead cap hand picks. Then Davis Webb's the guy to your point. wants to give a guy's opportunity. They. change the terminology. We assume Bo and. Shawn are going to get back cooking. Is. that what you assume? We should all. assume that naturally that that's going. to take place at some point here. >> Yeah. And I because Sean look at his. track record. Go talk to Drew Brees. like Drew Side, like Shawn Payeyton, like the dude again, it's innovation. It's like what's next and what what what. how can we put look at some of the play. calls yesterday uh with with Kyle on.
Monday Night Football. Just like you you. don't even if you don't pay attention, you don't notice it's like simple little. change up, little wrinkles, little cool. little things to end up with free 10. yards over and over and over again with. no risk. That was what Bill Wall started. like. The West Coast offense is built. off of, hey, let's extend our our. rushing game, which is very risk- free. other than the occasional fumble. Let's. extend it to the passing game, quick. passing game, risk-free essentially. And. that's what's now happening. Like you. half of the completions that the best.
quarterbacks in the league today have. are are commodities. Like like you. should you should go 15 of 30 without. even waking. Well, you should get out. not even get out of bed. The only. difference is can you go 21 out of 30 or. 24 out of 30 because these guys that. they're that are these guys I'm speaking. of are that innovative week to week and. so I fully expect Shawn Peyton to get. back on track and uh and he's one of the. guys that I would run if I could play. like I'm I I'll run there. That's fine. with me. >> I like that you're watching these. offenses going that'd be really nice. just uh.
>> oh well hey Pat let's let's let's be. super honest now. Anyone who played. before the rule changes sees today's. game as a quarterback and says, "Put me. in, coach." Man, this is awesome. Like, this is this is this is so much fun. It. is the era like and to be prolific today. is like it's it's the era of the. quarterback. It's like you've given all. the rules to make them feel like. empowered and be great. And so, that's. why I want them all to have an Andy Reid. or a Kyle Shane. I want them all to.
there's not 32 guys like this. unfortunately. >> and so I want them to I want more and. more guys to feel that you know look at. what Sam Darnell when he came to San. Francisco he goes to Minnesota Kevin. Kevin's one of those guys right it's. like you know whole careers are made if. you can get to one of these places and. uh it is the era of the quarterback like. and the running quarterback that's why I. love I played all those years ago and. the game came to me like this is my game. man I want to like this is how I want to. roll like drop back, rip it, be. efficient, be and then just start.
running around eating up yards. Oh, >> it's a good game right now for. quarterback. >> You with that little I mean, you can see. Oh my. Now they might punch that [ __ ]. out nowadays, Steve. They're getting a. little bit more handsy on that. >> No, no, no. You just keep pump faking. all the way down the field. >> Uh you talked about these offensive. coordinators, but the players themselves. in this modern era have a lot more they. have to deal with. They're getting paid. whenever they're teenagers. You got. obviously social media and everybody. either gassing you up or trying to kill. you. So I think finding the right stuff.
within the player is a big deal. Debut. has a question about that. >> Yeah, Steve, these franchise are. dependent on these these quarterback. The conversation is always about. quarterback development. I want to kind. of ask you what was the biggest thing. that turns you into a good quarterback. to an absolutely great quarterback. As. you talked about some of these play. callers, we see the continuity is not. really there anymore because they go and. get hired after a couple years. And we. see flash of quarterbacks be good for. maybe two or three years, but that. sustained greatness. What was the. biggest thing to help you get to that. point in your career? >> It's interesting. You know, you do.
playing great quarterback, you need a. lot of help. That's just a fact. I don't. care who you are. Patrick M needs a lot. of help. Like you need obviously you. need protection, all this obvious stuff, but what you really need is is a play. call, innovative play caller. I keep. saying that, but that's like that's part. of the connection. And once you have. that, and it was Mike Shannon turned to. me in 1992 and he said, "Look, bro, you're you're a g your game is great, but what I'm going to do now is I'm. going to not call plays to protect you. anymore. I'm going to call plays and you.
protect me. Like I'm going to let it. rip. I'm going to do crazy stuff. I'm. going to and you I'm going to empower. you to now you control it. You figure. out whether it works or not. You change, you know, it's like the empowerment is. what really changed for me." And I. really and I remember him when he said. that our game just my game took off when. I and I I I think of Jaden Daniels. yesterday where it was fourth and three. and they call a play and they have a. they get called for, you know, false. start or something. He's rolling out.
It's fourth down. It's like, bro, like. if you're empowered, you're thinking. about putting the ball into play in the. end zone somehow on fourth down. He. throws it away. And I think there's a. process of empowerment that happens over. time where you've got to get the what. happened the week before when Jaden is. like got the last play of the game and. it's like how what do I do? It's like. you you can't play great quarterback. unless you're running it and someone. behind you who's really cool calling. great plays like but you have to run it. and until that happens you're going to. be playing catch catchup because you're.
not you're not really the general on the. field. You always have the field draw. I. don't want to be weird about it, but you. have to be able to run at all. Last play. of the game, coach said something that. doesn't make sense to me. I don't want. to run. I can't run out of time. I got. to take care of this. Like, it's it's. about empowerment. And the coaches that. don't that call plays to make sure the. quarterback doesn't screw up never get. there. And the quarterback never gets. there. It's the co it's the innovative. coaches that see greatness in somebody. says, "Look, bro, you run with it. You. do this." And uh I think that was the. biggest change for me.
>> What was that? The dark knight. Had to. take the rope off when trying to jump. out of the pit. That's right. >> You know, you got to you got to you got. to be able to fall. >> Yeah. Part of the fear. >> to go where you need to head to. Steve, we're going to chasing you forever, brother. We appreciate you so much for. joining us and being so kind to us. I. told you this whenever I uh uh when I. saw you. We're such big fans, man. Like, we love We love you. >> I love chopping it up with you guys. Like, you call me anytime. It's fine. >> We're going to do that. We are going to. do that. We got a lot of hours on TV, as. you know, Steve. We are definitely going. to call you. We.
>> got some You got some places to fill. I. got you. >> Yes, we do. And filling it with Hall of. Famer Steve Young. >> Anytime you get in a jam like we got. some time to fill. Hey, ring me up. I'm. there. >> God, I love you. You are the man. We. appreciate you. That's Steve Young, ladies and gentlemen. >> He's being genuine with that. That's why. he was on right here. He told me that on. Saturday when he came up. I was like, "Hey, man. I've only got a chance to. talk to you like a couple times briefly. We are huge fans of yours. Like we loved. you on TV. I like the way you operate. outside of football. Like he is doing.
his own thing outside of football. never. defined strictly by the sport. Still. loves the sport, still represents for. the sport. And I loved him on TV. I I. mean, I thought he was great. He went 10. for 10 this weekend. >> Love how passionate he is. Always. talking about quarterback player. The. thing that sticks out the most when it. comes to Steve Young covering football. was when he made that comment about. Lamar Jackson like, "Hey, this. quarterback needs a sophisticated pass.". And this was after Lamar had already won. an MVP, already won a Heisman in. college. And you saw it throughout. different coordinators him become Brock. Pery just surpassed him to that was.
Lamar as the greatest uh passer rating. ever. So just seeing that but how. passionately he talks about it you know. from the coaching standpoint dealing. with great play callers in his career. seeing the career that he had to hear it. got hear it from him it just means more. I love that he's still that invested. too. Yeah, because when we went to ESPN, he was he left. He he was a part of the. we're moving on from so we were getting. blamed for Steve Young no longer be. which is so stupid. I can't even fathom. not having a clue about how the business.
works so much so even if you cover the. business not knowing how the business. crazy just to think about it all but we. were getting blamed for like Steve Young. not being on TV anymore. So I was scared. to death that Steve Young was going to. hate us. Then we run into him. Steve's. like, "Hey, I love what you do, man.". I'm like, "You don't hate us?" He's. like, "No." I'm like, "Thank God, bro. We are huge, huge fans of Steve." And. him going 10 for 10. >> Crazy. >> Impressive. >> On that Saturday. >> Yeah. >> I mean, that's an absurd thing. First.
time ever five of the top seven teams in. the country lose. There was upsets. across the board, let alone a 10 and a. half point one at home for BYU, Notre. Dame to kind of night cap that entire. thing with. >> Kentucky 6 and 12 point dogs. everywhere. I mean, it was just an. absurd Saturday. And Steve Young says, "Uh, >> Tennessee, >> let me go ahead and get this one for. you.". >> See, they set a record 130 dB at. Tennessee, Alabama on Saturday, which. is, I believe, a world record. >> Okay. So, did they The Chiefs had the. loudest before that. I know there had.
been a couple of different people. I. think Seattle was in the mix. >> Seahawks fans were in the mix. I I think. the Chiefs were in the mix because I. think it said loudest stadium in the. world out there in the home of the. >> Chiefs. Now it's Tennessee. That's the eighth. largest stadium venue in the world how. big it is. I think it was the biggest. and then other schools have kind of. built up around it or whatever. >> They got some really. >> Bama Bama's offense too. They said. during the game nobody on that team, at. least on the offensive side, had played.
in Tennessee. So can you imagine that. being your first experience that sets. the records for how loud it is? Tough. environment to play in. Makes sense why. they lost. >> That's why college football is. spectacular is the environments, the. pageantry, the tradition and Steve Young. getting a chance to go back there and. experience it was cool to watch too like. watch it. Let alone in the great. >> he was the first one on the field. >> Yeah. On the rush. >> Yeah. Ended the game. >> People are saying that's why they didn't. review the clock. Steve Young was out. there saying we win it. Stand for Steve. was out there too. Hey, call it.
>> Yep. >> Game ball game. How'd he do last night. on TV? It was good to see. >> I don't know. I dominated. >> I I couldn't get over him talking about. how Levis's was a dump. And it that was. a beautiful stadium. >> Beautiful. >> What do you mean? >> He got on the bus. He said that it is. one of the worst stadiums in the NFL. >> St. Steve said that. >> Yeah. Big hunk of concrete. >> Yeah, >> it is the I mean, we walked through a. tunnel that was. >> from the outside. Definitely a big hunk. of concrete. I get that. But then you. get inside there. >> Beautiful. >> Beautiful board feel. two boards. Both.
sides had the biggest jumbo try. Now, this place obviously going to be talked. about and is one of the grand standards. of gold standards of stadiums. Every. stadium is trying to build what Sofi is. here. Stupid decision not to make it a. dumb because you still get rain in there. without a doubt. >> That that that seems like a little bit. >> lightning delays. >> Seems like an artist made a decision. that wasn't in reality was in theory. >> Well, you get a day like this. Pretty. sweet. >> Perfect. Which is most days out here. But they got the LED board across the. entire top of this thing. The inside, the sweets are sick. There's 8K cameras.
I mean, it is phen newer stadiums so. much better than the older stadiums. >> Yeah. >> So, 2014, although that's 12 years ago, that's a very new stadium in the NFL. Levi Stadium was uh bumping last night. Okay, let's talk about some of the. things happening around the NFL. Uh big. news coming from the Seattle Seahawks. There's a possibility that uh you could. see Zack Charbanet back with the. Seahawks. Now, Kenneth Walker going to. the Kansas City Chiefs. huge huge hole. in the Seattle Seahawks running back.
room especially whenever the other one. that they had. So they had two ones last. year. Charbanet and Kenneth Walker. I. think Charbanet got the start usually. then Kenneth Walker would come in. They. would split reps. Kenneth Walker still a. stud. Charbanet gets hurt down a stretch. uh down the stretch. Kenneth Walker. takes it over becomes Super Bowl MVP. Now he's Bellcow for the Chiefs. Seattle. Seahawks haven't had their Bellcow. Charbanet he is potentially returning. That's gigantic for the Seattle Seahawks. team who has been without a run game. basically and without one of their stars.
pretty much and now everybody's judging. if they can do it again. It's like let's. see whenever they're healthy maybe when. Sharpet is back. >> Yeah, he's a big- time playmaker. He's a. touchdown scorer. A lot of people, a lot. of fantasy people, a lot of prop bers. hated him because he was steal or take. Kenneth Walker's touchdowns, but he's a. big time playmaker and they drafted at. the position with Jadarian Price to try. to replace Kenneth Walker and he hasn't. been great. has been banged up. But I. think that offense, even though they. have a new play call, they're built on a. run game and a play action fake. Even. with Jackson Smith and Jig last year. winning the offensive player of the. year, they were like, I think bottom.
third when it came to pass attempt. So, they're built on that run game and then. creating big chunk plays down the field. Then obviously having a phenomenal. defense. So, I'm sure he will be a big. boost to this offense once he gets back. on the field. >> To your point, like they're the exact. same offense. It's the same five. offensive linemen. It's the same tight. ends. Now Charbanet comes back and then. Yajarian Price who's been out hurt. He's. supposed to be back in the next two. weeks. So, you know, hopefully if they. get those two back, they could share the. carries all five offensive linemen. You. know, it is a new offensive coordinator. So, that's that is a big change in that. situation, but hopefully they could get.
that run game going again because. Darnold, it feels like it's something. that Darnold needs uh to help with the. turnovers. >> Yeah. Not just Darnold. >> Denny. Yeah. >> Every quarterback needs a good run game. You lose the Super Bowl MVP, you hope. that you have another guy that you had. You made the decision to stick with. Sharon. That was the decision that was. like, we can't pay. Kenneth Walker and. we got Charbanet hasn't been healthy. He. gets back on the field. Would be huge. for the Super Bowl champs. We're um a. little bit more than 24 hours removed. from a massive decision being made in. Indianapolis. Head coach of the Colts. had this to say about general manager.
Chris Ballard being relieved of his. duties just yesterday. Long time coming, says a lot of Colts fans. I assume. inside the building, they also had. similar thoughts. Here's what Chris B. Okay. We're looking. We're looking. We're. pulling. Shane Stiken said it's the. shade part of the business. He actually. swore. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. You said sh H I t T T T T T T T T. T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T T. T T T T T T T T T T T T Y Y. >> part of the business. Shane Stiken, everybody in that building knew this was. probably coming at least at some point.
going into the season. All Carly Ers and. all the Ers family said and Shane Stiken. and Chris Ballard said was, "This is a. heightened amount of urgency. This is. the year we need to do everything." They. pay a quarterback, >> they pay wide receiver, they paid a. running back. Offensive lineman Quinn. Nelson's been paid a couple times. He's. about to be gone. On the defensive side, we paid multiple people. We've invested. multiple people. This year, there was a. heightened sense of urgency. Do you. think in the building they knew that.
heads would if you go two and 13 or two. and 11 in your last 13, people are. probably going to get fired? They knew. that, right? >> Yeah. But even obviously outside of the. 211 because obviously you lose your. quarterback. You don't expect to lose. all the games down the stretch. You got. to be competitive. They weren't. They. didn't find a way to win. But coming. into this year having all those things. in place. Once you got to the point. where you lost to the Tennessee Titans, the windless team, they were in the. shite division for however long you lose. that game. I think even outside the. building, you knew heads were roll. I. talked to a former GM last night uh.
before the game and he was like, "Yeah, as soon as that happened, I kind of knew. somebody was getting fired." And it. wasn't the coach, it was the general. manager. But for the coach and everybody. else in that building, it's definitely. heightened now. Everybody knows, hey, week in and week out, which this the. life in the NFL, you're playing for your. job. So, it's kind of signaling. signaling to an offseason where it's. going to be a full rebuild when you fire. the gym midseason. So, um Shane, I'm. sure he he's Yeah, I'm not surprised. he's letting it letting it rip a little. bit. >> Jim Nance said he got a lot of good. pieces that are going to keep and I. respect Jim Nance, but if this is a full.
rebuild, some decisions are going to. have to be made very soon. Yep. like I I. I. think we're closer to the situation. So. maybe we uh talk about a little bit more. than everybody else. >> Who do they play this week? >> Great team. >> cuz that that's kind of the if they lose. this week then I think it is you can go. >> they play the Vikings this week. >> So. >> that's going to be tough. >> DJ revenge game. Yeah, I can see it. >> I can smell it. >> Don't do this a game comment.
>> Let's be honest. They're not going to. let odds make any decisions. >> Well, that's what I'm saying though. But. somebody has to. >> Carly's going to It's going to have to. be Carly. >> So if we if we decide full rebuild, >> we have to do a lot of things. >> Oh yeah. >> Like cuz this has been this been a. roster that's been pieced together over. a decade. >> Mhm. >> Normal contracts four years. People have. had full families developed in. Indianapolis under the Ballard era. people have gotten paid multiple times. in about the salary cap has been used.
multiple times by the quarterback. position and by the rest of the roster. So if we're doing a full rebuild, I mean. that's a lot of gigantic moves that have. to be made and they have to take place. now cuz we got nothing in the draft. that's coming up because of all the. moves that we made. I think this is an. interesting little predicament for the. Indianapolis Colts to find out who the. hell how the hell and what the hell. they're going to do to try to do this. rebuild if that is the way that in which. they're going. if we're hanging on to a. couple pillar players that we're. spending a lot of money to and telling. the next general manager and next head.
coach if that ends up happening like hey. this is what you got to deal with and. work around certainly could happen if. you're able to just change the culture. quickly but. >> there's a lot of [ __ ] they're going to. have to do and these are big moves. they're going to have to be made a lot. of negotiating a lot of moving and. shaking that's going to happen we've all. seen draft day there's a couple GMs out. there they're going to try to take. advantage if Dods is doing this and he. feels a personal connection because him. and Chris Bow have made every decision. is he going to be willing to do what? I. mean, it is. >> first hires for the Daughters, too. >> So, it's obviously going to have to hire.
a new GM, but you're going to have to we. assume unless Shane turns it around and. they go on an unbelievable run, new head. coach, completely new front office. Like, so you talking about changing the. culture, you know, now being the the. acting owner, these are going to be. those first kind of huge decisions. >> You assume Dods has some sort of, hey, you're good to go. Okay. you're you need. to go and make moves and this is. >> God is deciding. >> I I would hope that. >> that's what I'm saying as a paying. season ticket holder. This guy's the one.
deciding what we're who would be Pton. Manning got a call allegedly. >> Sure. >> So I'm being told that I think Dan. Patrick reported that he heard that Pton. Manning had already gotten a phone call. uh about this entire thing. Is he an. adviser and a a consultant? Is does he. have enough time in his life to take on. a task of building the Indianapolis? Is. he getting a percentage of the team? Like actually. >> they already have that in Denver. >> I think it was talked about. I don't. know if the. >> Matt Ryan roll. >> like where he come and become the. president. They would have to pay him. >> I was going to say, does he want to do.
that? Exactly. His son's just about to. get into his high school football. career. Like I I think that's Yeah, it's. a pipe dream. That'd be awesome. >> And who would it be that Who are you? I. mean, these are some gigantic decisions. that are going to have to. >> You have to You have to do it now, though. Like, because Yeah. It's never a. good time to rebuild, but you c you. can't just kick this down the road. And. then cuz the f the fans are done with. it, like you said, like it's like you're. on the verge here of like really having. people being like, you know what, enough. of this [ __ ] I'm not coming on Sunday. I'm done with. >> filing the same.
product year in year out. Like you just. It's never a good time to do it. You. have to do it now. They open the door. with fire and Ballard like. it's time to rebuild. It's time to do. it. You haven't you haven't won the. division in in what 13 years? Like you. can't just that I mean that's that's. insanity just doing the same thing over. and over and and thinking your fortunes. are going to change. >> What what's what's what's going on in. that brain over there, Connor, cuz. you're kind of. >> Well, no, that's why I think to Tai's. point, you do have to do it now. And.
that's why you tell Dodd's like, "Hey, you go down the list." Okay. I think. Nance was right with like JT who's young. and he's got multiple years left on his. deal. Dan Jones, he has multiple years. left on his deal. Those guys are. probably staying just because you could. do something with him. >> Who can we get a one on it? We need a. one. >> I No one's trading for Dan Jones. >> I don't Yeah, no one. That's what I. mean. No one's going after him. I think. Jonathan Taylor, you could go get a one. But what do you need a number one pick. or first round pick for? You need a. quarterback no matter what of the. future. That's where rebuilds start and. begin because you have Dan Jones for the.
next two years cuz he's not going. anywhere. You probably just punt on the. first round this year. But what you. could do is Quinton Nelson, he's. definitely not getting a contract. extension because you can get we don't. know. >> because because you can get because you. can get actual top tier picks for him. Cam Jurgens just went for a second and a. fifth. So you can definitely get at. least a second out of Quinton Nelson, but that's where it becomes highest. bidder. That's where you have all these. teams. The New England Patriots, half.
their offensive line is out. I know they. would give up at least a second for. Quinton Nelson. you talking up there or. boys up there? >> I would hope that they're talking. Landon Dickerson just came out and said. like, "I don't even know if the freaking. Eagles want me. Go ask Howie and ask. someone else." I think there's a lot of. teams that are going to be circling for. offensive lineman as the, you know, trade deadline gets closer. So, you go. down the list, aside from Quinton. Nelson, Cam Binham's in year two of a. three-year deal. You would think that he. would be another guy that you would.
consider moving on from, but you're not. going to get the quarterback. >> You lose the sis. >> I'm I know. I'm sorry. You're You're. going to have to search for that on a. different team social media account to. figure out how he did it. But again, there's just only a couple pieces. It's. going to take three It's going to take. three years. >> If he gets traded, I'm not looking at. another one of his celebrations. They're. awesome. >> Yeah, it'll hurt too much. >> He brings a lot of juice to the Colts. He's been great for the Colts. >> There's so many guys on our team that. are good, which is why it's so. spectacular that we're not spectacular. Gnarly that we're two and 11 in our last. 13, cuz we have so many good players.
>> How are we so bad? Good California word, by the way. >> Gnarly. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, bro. Colts are a problem. They can. still go 13 and four. >> No, they can't. Actually, they they they. cannot. That's that's my next guarantee. The Colts don't go 13. >> Oi now with guarantees. >> I had it. I'm No, I'm not because I'm 0. and one and Dan [ __ ] hits on every. single one of his. But. >> but actually like they are screwed. They.
And this is a multipleyear thing. This. isn't going to happen next year. They're. not going to have a first round pick. >> All right, let's pivot away from the. Indianapolis Colt situation and let's go. to the massive day that it is here this. October 20th is NBA Tip Off Tuesday. To. join us with all the breaking news is a. man who knows it all, has ruffled some. feathers along the way. He knows what. needs to be said. He knows when to just. kind of cook something and drag you. along. Ladies and gentlemen,
>> he understands it now. >> Yes, he does. >> Good sucking sharp. >> Right out of Dan Orowski's closet, >> baby. >> Yeah, baby. >> I got motivated. >> IT'S A GOOD BROWN, BABY. >> YOU LOOK GREAT. You look great. You look. unbelievable. Good to see you. Can you. hear us in there? >> I can hear you guys. Well, Pat, I saw. you in your suit. >> That's right. >> College game day. You wore a tie. >> That's right. >> My mom was stunned. >> Really? shocked. My mom's a big Pat. McAfee fan. She was shocked you were in.
a tie. But. >> well, tell your mother. I saidatile. Tell your mom. I said thank you. Uh I. didn't know how to tie it. Uh shout out. to brother Howard. Desmond Howard tied. that tie. That was actually Kirk. Herbstreet's tie. Uh so it was a late. team. >> decision. It was good teamwork. I was. going to wear the short sleeve uh. >> with the tie. No, no jacket. >> Yeah, with the the. >> like the account thing. >> like the Latter Day Saint. >> Oh, sure. Sure, sure. Knock on the door. >> Yeah, of course. Yeah, accountant too. though. Yes, certainly. It's. >> been a while since one's knocked on my.
door. >> Uh, okay. Always open to those. discussions, by the way. Should be. I. think open-minded is right way to handle. everything. Let's talk about your mind, Shams. NBA tip off Tuesday here. Congratulations on making it to another. season. Senior NBA insider for ESPN. Let's get it. >> Big story line right now. LeBron James, a member of the Sixers. Uh, that feels. rather important and uh dynamic. But is. the Eastern Conference now the heavy. conference as opposed to the Western. Conference like it's been for the last. decade or so? I saw Adam Silver on your. show and I thought he made some good.
points. I I I don't know if it's. stacked, but there's a lot more. interesting storylines like Kawaii being. in Toronto. The first game of today's. opening day, Boston, Detroit, like I. think those are two teams that people. aren't sure. Is this are these two teams. true contenders or are they kind of that. second tier teams? And then opening. night games, you have Knicks and Sixers. where the Knicks, you know, they're. going to be legit. We we saw them do it. I think with with Philadelphia, I'm. curious to see there's like three things. that I'm I'm the layers that are going. to be paramount to their season. I think.
the rotations because you think about. that starting lineup, all those guys to. some degree need the ball in their. hands. And so, how are they going to. distribute that rotations? How are they. going to stagger their minutes, health? My understanding is LeBron, James, Joel. Embiid, the hope is within the first few. weeks of the season, limit them to. around 30 minutes a game. And then the. third thing is sacrifice. And Joel. Embiid said the other day, there's no. sacrifice. like we we we're not here to. sacrifice. Everyone's going to do their. thing. But I I sorry I have to say. there's going to be sacrifice. There's. going to be someone or some players that.
are going to sacrifice. He's already. saying for. >> Oh, Sixers. They're cracked. They're. crack like that bell already. >> He understands it. You know what it. reminded me of? Klay Thompson when the. Warriors got Kevin Durant. You know what. Klay Thompson said? He's like, "No one's. changing their game. Everyone's good.". Well, they clearly had to change their. game. But Klay Thompson is different. than Joel Embiid. But how will everyone. mesh? I am curious. It's going to take. Philadelphia some time. And then. obviously the night cap tonight,
Oklahoma City, San Antonio, we know both. of these teams. They're going to be in. it at the end. >> We saw you putting some shots up with uh. Lethal and uh I want to let you know it. was nice to see that you understand it. Now, how do the lads uh treat you now. that they know you have a certified J? Do you get a little bit more respect. amongst the NBA rosters and locker. rooms? How do you feel your um your. positioning is as senior NBA insider now. verse maybe a couple years ago cuz there. was a tough transition process. I don't. know if I've ever seen Woge get wet from. deep. Does this help or hurt you in the.
biz? And shout out to Lethal. >> Well, you know, I I think you can kind. of look at me. I think I think I give. the look of a shooter, but you never. know outside of shooting. No. athleticism, you know, no defense, uh. shaky handles, but I can definitely. shoot. I'm not going to lie. I can shoot. it. I just need rhythm. Uh the and you. know the celebrity game was not my uh my. best show. Well, you and your coach. limited minutes. I would say limited. minutes role. But by the way, Taco Fall. first player in NBA history to sign a.
rostered NBA contract after playing the. celebrity game. He was my teammate. We. won the game and uh I don't know. I feel. like you know winners win. So Taco Fall. is a winner. >> Okay. As. >> two-way contract with the Sixers. We. wrap up here on ESPN. Big day with big. shreds breaking down all of the big. plays is next here on ESPN. We continue. digitally on YouTube, ESPN Plus and. Disney Plus. Jean Shirani is here. He's. about to break some crazy news or at.
least tell us some news is about to. break in the forthcoming uh upcoming. future. >> Y there. >> What a night last night. What a day. today. Be a friend. Tell a friend. something nice about my change your. life. Goodbye. Feel like we snuck it in. there. Got it. Okay. We're still live. >> I think I got to go. I think I got to. go. >> What? NBA today. >> No. Big day with big shrikes is on right. now. >> No, I think NBA today is. >> No, >> you bump Big Shrikes. on I think it's on Yeah, I'm pretty. sure. >> Not at 2 Eastern. We have a schedule. change at Easter. Got to be 3:00, bro.
>> They would do that to Big Stray. >> The game starts at 3. >> Oh, no. Yeah, you're on today right now. Yeah. >> Get in there. Get in there. Bring some. We'll see you in there. We'll see you in. there. You're the man, ladies and. gentlemen. That's Sean Strong. Let's get Let's get eyes on ESPN. Uh, see if Shams break any news. See you, Shams. >> That was the first actual driveby. >> Yeah. Wait, you're doing great, Shams. >> He's got to learn how to dunk like Wendy. now. >> All right. I kind of like that that.
happened actually. Let's tune in to NBA. today to get a little update. >> It's a big day. >> Yeah, it is a big day. Three-pointers. >> He's right. It is on. Yep. Right up. Oh, man. They're going to. >> It's a big day. NBA today. >> breaking down all of the big plays. tonight. >> right now. >> Oh, he's coming back. >> He's coming back. He left something. Hey, I sp rang out. Anybody know that. anybody? >> A little sense of urgency. >> We'd like to thank everybody for the. setup here. Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> Unbelievable day. Shout out so far being a great backdrop.
Way to go. >> Beautiful. >> to the boys in the truck. Good work, boys. Good job, boys. Good show, boys. Nice. >> there. >> Yeah, it's very nice. This this setup. was remarkable. I I genuinely would like. to say thank you to everybody. Uh my man. who's a Raiders fan has been hanging out. back here. We appreciate him hanging. out. What up, dude? Good. >> That's right. That's right. Good to see. you. >> We beat the [ __ ] out of you guys. >> Okay. He can't hear you. Can't hear you. >> I can't hear him either. >> Yeah, but you don't need to be saying. that to He should at least be able to. hear you to be able to respond. You just. kind of talked a little bit of [ __ ] to. him.
>> Patriots beat the [ __ ] out of the. Raiders. >> You know what? I respect it. I got to respect it. But you know what? >> Huh? >> Classic fans living in the bat. Let it. go, brother. >> 2001, you cheated. >> They did. >> That was a fumble. That was awesome. We. almost saw it last night with Jane. Daniels. >> Yes. >> He had a little tuck rule uh situation.
happen. I I'm going to let you know. >> what's his name the ref last night? Aras. Adri Adrien Hill. >> Adrien Hill. There it is. Arless is the. uh PR person for the Los Angeles. Uh Adrien Hill back office of. suspension. >> People are not happy with the things he. did last. I loved it. >> Lot of calls last night. >> A lot of flags. A lot of picked up flags. on clear calls, too. I mean, there was. clear calls where he was like, "Not for. the good of the game. We're putting that. one away." Screw it. >> We got to do It's prime time football. People expect football, right? >> Pick it up. Like, well, it was clear.
helmet. No. >> What was he supposed to do? >> That's what we thought. Just pick it up. Keep it moving. You You ref your game, Adrian. >> That's right. And he will. >> And And I like, you know what, after. meeting him and talking to him and. watching him ref last last night live in. person, >> he had no other option after getting. pushed down to say, "Hey." Yeah. >> You know what I mean? >> I still think there's a chance that he. got concussed and he thinks we're. playing like 1987. So like that's why. last night that's a legal. >> Oh, there's a chance come back quick. >> Yeah. Did he go through a protocol? That. might be what the suspension was. >> Maybe. >> maybe they hid the concussion protocol.
with the ref. That would be. >> through the suspension would be like we. can't let anybody know that our ref's. brains are getting. >> mush. >> Well, we actually lost a ref for the. season for the season. >> You guys saw that and then when he went. down the other refract. the knee. I like that. >> That's your teammate. >> NFL umpire Larry Smith has been ruled. out for the remainder of the season. after suffering a non-cont leg injury in. London. Uh Smith appeared to slip while. receiving a football and then his right. leg folded back underneath of him. >> Yeah, >> it was uh like out of a movie when they. draw like a body after it gets squished.
So, we'd like to let uh Larry Smith. know. Godspeed, brother. >> That was a wet, slippery trip. >> I was going to say that damn grass over. here in London. >> Yeah, international services are. certainly something. We'll keep our eye. on France this weekend. All right. Be a. friend. Tell a friend. Some nice might. change your life. We're going to send. together. We are so thankful for all of. you. >> We caught a Monday night football game. last night. >> Hell yeah. >> I mean, there was obviously a lot of. conversation and conjecture around the. people that hate my guts and our guts. about that, but it's like we [ __ ]. caught a Monday night football game last. night. That is not lost on us. That is. something that we are very very honored,
pumped, thankful, mind blown about, and. uh hopefully we just help the game in. general. We'll continue to try to be a. contribution to society, an additive to. ball and sports as a whole. And uh we're. grateful for last night. Dano, you did a. great job. Debbut you as well. Boys up. in the booth. Great work in the truck. Let's enjoy the hell out of this life. Be a friend. Tell a friend. Some nights. might change your life. We're going to. send together. Team on me. Team on. three. >> NBA tip off, baby. Hell yeah. >> Hell yeah.
>> 1 2 3. Goodbye.
