Why hasn't Keir Starmer made bigger reforms?

My sort of slight frustration is I I. hear everything you lay out about a. growth agenda but then I think but they. haven't like benefits they've came come. back on they haven't done any reform. there they haven't really reformed. anything very much. >> I think on on welfare we do need to come. back to that and the area that we need. to come back to swiftly and um Pat. McFaden um the secretary of state has. got Alan Milburn to look at this is on. the question of young people on benefits. because we've got the best part of a. million young people on benefits. This.

is really bad for them and all the. evidence is if you're on benefits as a. young person, the likelihood is you're. going to really struggle to come off. benefits. So, we have to reform and that. has to be a moral mission to reform. That's why we put the reviews in place. and we will reform. the a strong enough answer to something. that's a moral mission. Well, we do need. to um analyze why have we got to this. situation and what's the best way. because a lot of it for to take an. example a lot of it is um to do with um.

mental health um issues um and we need. to address what's the appropriate way in. 2025 going forward to deal with mental. health. We do understand it in a better. way now. Um there are um conditions um. that we understand better. But I I I. think the the question will become is. that something which takes you down the. path to welfare which I instinctively. think must be wrong or is there a better. and different way of doing it and.

supporting people into work. I think you. do have to review that look at the. options but to come back to your central. challenge which I accept we do have to. um uh look at how we can reform welfare. I just think there's a slight. difference in the amount of time you've. got left is not so huge and therefore. you need to get on with the reform.
