Why Trump's Rallies Are Turning into Epic Disaster | The Daily Beast Podcast
They are flooded with protests, and these protests have now become the thing that everybody is talking about. And also some of the protests, some of the heckling is hilarious isn’t it? This is what people are seeing on television. This is what people are seeing on social media, not just people who hate Trump seeing this. That's what people in the Trump camp. The Trump world are seeing as well. They are seeing these rallies go not well, they are seeing them. And we talked for this last week Norma Desmond. The venues are getting smaller. The seats are getting emptier.
Yeah. It's not the bombed Trump's Ego. that it had been. I'm Joanna Coles. This is The Daily Beast podcast. It's Friday, which can mean only one thing. I think that's fair to say, Hugh...
“Shove that ballroom up your fat ass.”. We are going to be talking about Donald Trump. Is he doing rallies? Is he not doing rallies? He doesn't know what he's doing. We don't know what he's doing. And the Republicans don't know what he's doing. So much to get into. Who's been the most successful heckler? What has happened to that guy who was sitting on the front row of almost. every rally and has photos with almost. every MAGA king or queen will get into it? JD Vance has perfected the non-answer answer and so much more.
Stay tuned. And before we get into it, just a quick reminder to please. subscribe to the Daily Beast podcast wherever you get your podcast. We are among a minority of independent media and so we rely on you. subscribing, liking, sharing this podcast with your friends. And just a reminder, on Tuesday Michael Wolff and I will be here.
from 8:00 onwards on midterm Election Day Live. We will have constant updates about the races from. Hugh will be running in and out with pieces of paper and frantically texting. Will be open for live chat. so you can ask us your questions and make the points you want to make. So 8:00 YouTube. live and wherever else you get your podcasts. Okay, Hugh, where do we begin?
Where do we begin? I cannot wait for election night. Joanna. I can't wait to see you and Michael. It's going to be amazing. I don't know if it's going to be amazing, but it is going to be. I think it's going to be more amazing than Airforce One flying over you at 500ft. What was. It was coming. That was horrifying. So the the interweb, I think we call it. These modern people call it that. It looks like an AI video of grift force one, as you have named. the plane the gift from the Qatar's to Donald Trump, the luxury play.
No one's ever seen anything like it, but it had to immediately. go and get refitted for security and swept for bugs. The president's plane. suddenly did a kind of, I want to say, almost did a roll over the white House. What was it about? White House was celebrating Halloween on Thursday night. It is, of course, Halloween season. And trick or treat was to fly. grift force one over the white House twice,
just about as the sun was going down in D.C. and slightly, you know, slight for for the people. of the District of Columbia at nobody had told them in advance. And suddenly there was probably around 350. tons of metal and wood and gold, gold. and say, actually 350 tons of gold, gold flying over their heads at all. According to the air, you know, sort of monitoring software as low as 400ft.
The, the, the buildings in D.C. can't go higher than 500ft, the height of the Washington as well. Just as well it was it was at rooftop height. People were looking up there absolutely terrified. If you were watching on YouTube, you can see some of the videos. that people were taking. It's crazy. And it didn't do it once it came back and did it twice. The council of the district, the Council and the District of Columbia, the legislature has put out a statement saying, what an earth is going on? People at Reagan National ever flown in or out of or you've been to D.C., you know.
that there's there's got this very low port that's really, really close to the, you know, all the all the sites and all the monuments and, oh, you know, where people live. There was a ground stop for half an hour there. Nobody knew. United and Delta and American that fly from there had no idea. And they said, oh, sorry. We've got a ground stop for. what's described as an executive move or maneuver, and that usually means Marine One is on its way to Andrews Air Force Base. No, it was the biggest plane that Boeing has ever produced.
are flying at maybe 500ft over the white House, because it was Halloween and the Miller and Hegseth. children were getting their candy and almost speechless. The idea of being stuck on the runway and having your flight delayed, and then all the knock on impacts of that for anybody catching a connection. I mean, I am speechless at the idea that Trump thought he could do this.
And again, we go back to this is a presidency. This is an administration of one man. who wants to do what he wants to do, and the hell with the rest of us. And he's been obsessed by these five overs. And if again, if you're watching, if you're. if you're listening rather on Apple or Spotify or wherever. you get your podcasts, and we're just showing some highlight. pictures of other fly pass over the white House. We all remember July the 4th of where he basically took over the airspace in D.C.
and, you know, people, you know, people are like, oh, I enjoy it. Who doesn't enjoy a fly past? And they're like, oh, there's another one, another one, another one. Their dogs were howling, their children were crying. You know, this was. he is becoming he has become obsessed by the idea that he can get Air Force One. Particularly. He loves showing off this gold plane to do five pass. It's they do. He goes to stadium. They do a flypast over the stadium. We saw that on some of his tours down to college football.
He sits in the white House and he says, I'm going to have some people around. I know I'll get Airforce One to fly over. It's it's an obsession. It's like a wish. It's like, make a wish, president. Absolutely. And the cost to the tax payer we are paying for this. We ask what I think. I'm not sure how much people have connected this. Maybe they think, oh, it's just military budget, military spending. It's actually taxpayers dollars going into keeping Donald Trump entertained. because as he gets older, it takes more to keep him entertained.
And just as you say, it is technically military spending, the military budget, of course, has been borne by Pete, who was down there with his third wife. and four of their assorted children. He's born through the military budget in with the combat operations in Iran. He's asking for 1.5 billion. Well, some of it was to fund these two fly pasts. Well, Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump have three wives in common.
Melania was also there. If you go to the Daily Beast website, you can find all the footage. We've got clips of all this, but I'd like to show the clip of Melania, because she was she was all in black. Melania didn't need to dress up. She was all in black. And I just thought of the word, which because.
I mean designer, which. Well, And then the little child dressed as Woody. Fossey story looking totally confused, like, where am I supposed to look? What's happening? I mean, the whole thing looked like an AI video, didn't it? I mean, honestly, AI videos, but he's turning into an AI for deal. I mean, this is sort of AI sloppy. Oh, I've, I've, you know, I've got on the AI and, you know, ChatGPT. give me a movie of and there we go. And it's real life.

That's casper.com and get a king mattress for the price. of a queen or a queen mattress for the price of a full. That's real life. So what is real life in terms of his rallies? Because. Well, let's you know, he says he's done.
What is it, 25, 26 rallies. By now. He was planning to do tele rallies over the weekend. like an aging evangelist. But what actually is he doing now? I've just got this image of him and said, you know, God has healed you. Please give money. Well, and it's not far off. They've got to do something. Got something? Those races news are collapsing. It turns out so. But first of all, why would he?
Because we know that he loves rallies, right? He loves feeding off the crowd. Why did he decide that he'd had enough rallies? And then what was this morning's decision? So we've had some some breaking news overnight. Yesterday. I, Donald Trump went, did as usual, went to rally. That's what he loves. He loves a rally. And when he came back, the white House, or on his way back, the white House briefed that they were canceling the next and final rallies.
that were being planned in Iowa and in Kansas. Okay. So let's just talk about the people that he's going to support that. So in Kansas, he's going to support the incumbent senator. who is a doctor who, it turns out, has been billing people. Yes, as they go bankrupt from not having paid him. So Roger Marshall, sitting Senator, just to fill people. in on how Republican is the Kansas Senate seat? The last time Kansas voted in a Democrat into the Senate.
was in 1932, 19, 1932. Wow. There is literally only one person. alive in the United States who could have voted in that election. And they didn't live in Kansas. They don't live in Kansas. America's oldest living woman lives in Pennsylvania, and at that time probably was living in Georgia. So we know that there is nobody alive. who voted successfully to get a Democrat into the Senate. Right. Kansas is Bob Dole. It's ruby red. You can't get any redder.
Unfortunately for. Roger Marshall, he's been an epic bad candidate. He was a doctor. He was an ob gyn in fairly rural part of Kansas. And his history as a doctor has no come back to bite him, because, as you see, Johanna, he was billing his patients. Of course, we all know you get billed. Then he was pursuing them when they didn't pay the bills, and he was charging. interest rates of like 18% on medical debt to people with no money.
He used the court system to go after debts, and that doesn't play well. One of the people that he was pursuing was a mother who had a miscarriage. And while she was being pursued for the debt. The stories, of course, are heartrending. Who doesn't? You know, everybody can relate to the failures or difficulties of health. care and the idea that the senator who is supposed to be there to help, help you out, has previously been coming after people for medical debt. Just atrocious. Then on top of that, people began to see.
So this senator, where does he really live? And, you know, he got a job in D.C.. Oh, he's moved to DC. Okay. Fair enough. Well, it turned out he actually moved to Florida, according to his critics. And he was barely, barely in Kansas. He's not in Kansas anymore. He's not in Kansas anymore. So, you know, in this deep red, deep red state, he has paid a tremendous price. The polls are really bad for Roger Marshall. Just the. average has been around 5047 against him.
He has this formidable candidate going up against him Adam Hamilton. He is a preacher. He's the pastor of a megachurch. He has been. you know, one of the things of course, we were just talking about preachers. He's a he's a statewide figure already, which obviously always helps and a lot, you know, huge area that Kansas is. That means that he has been seen on television for a long time by people. People know who he is and the attacks that you can.
you know, the Republicans have consistently. tried to level against Democrats about, you know, hitting, hitting religion. and not being of faith. Bit of a problem. You can't call a pastor anything but a man of faith. And he has been this formidable candidate. 5047 devastating new poll from The Washington Post says 52. that Hamilton is on. 52 and Roger Marshall was on 43. And there is also a libertarian candidate who has got not significant,
you know, electable support, but has split off some of the votes from. people who are disgusted at Roger Marshall. So it's I would say it's a red alert, but I guess it's a blue alert. Right. And Adam Hamilton also seems interesting because he couldn't be less DSA. He essentially presents as an independent. I would say I've listened to lots of interviews. He's incredibly articulate, very good speaker, as you say. He's a preacher. So he's used to drawing a crowd, and he seems like the kind of candidate. that makes sense for the Democrats to run in a state.
that hasn't voted Democratic for a senator since 1932. I love the idea that there's only one person in the US. that could have legally voted for him, and she lives in Pennsylvania. Yes. Right. So that's an incredible an incredible, unexpected situation in Kansas. So Donald Trump was asked by a reporter from Reuters. why he wasn't going to go there anymore. And he said he was doing great,
didn't need to go to Kansas, didn't need to go to Kansas. But he's changed his mind. Yes. So last night he didn't need to go to Kansas because we're doing so well. And Roger Marshall was doing so well in the polls, this morning without the benefit, by the way, of any different polling. This polling was available last night. Right? Without that, but without the benefits of polling. We're back in Kansas. To those of you listening in or near Kansas, Selina, is a place. to head to see the last Trump rally in your state before the election.
So he is going to be going back. He's going back in person. He's going back in crazy, crazy shift. And what's this? You know, what does this tell us? Well, first of all, tells you about the Kansas, right? There's a panic of don't bring Donald Trump. He's bad for us. Oh, actually, hold on. Maybe he will bring out some votes. But it's a panic. You know, there's no there's no clear strategic sense of direction here. But also what's going on in the white House. He was he was in he was out. You know, this is,
this is obviously a problem. And the next state that he's going to go to in Iowa, and that's another state that we had thought was ruby red, where there is an incredibly talented. Democratic challenger in this time wreck. Right. We have two, actually. This is a fascinating thing. We also have a really live governor's race in Iowa. Iowa has had Republican governors for 20 years. So I had an open governor's seat because of term limits.
And it has the state auditor already in a statewide office. Rob Sand is running as the Democrat and not dissimilar to the Kansas Senate race. He sounds like an independent. This is, you know, attacks on the sort of DC wing of the Democrats. They don't land. This guy is as Midwest and Iowa as you can. possibly imagine, incredibly wholesome, incredibly charismatic. He has obviously converted Republicans to his side.
We've seen the he's got a couple people that Republicans and Democrats, they send, you know, sort of party volunteers to follow rival candidates around. And he's converted two of them to supporting him. Oh, really? Were sent to monitor him for saying bad things and. No. And they went to all his, you know, his campaign events, and now they're on his sides. Oh that's hilarious. And who is his Republican? He is running against a guy called Zach Lang.
And Zach Lane is again, he's kind of a problematic candidate for the Republicans. He says he talks about being a sixth generation Iowan. That his great, great. I can't even count the numbers. You know, grandfather settled Iowa and joined. the second Iowa Cavalry and went to the Civil War. Great. Slate for us. He mostly appears to have been living in Kansas in recent years. Well, he should be the Kansas. Maybe he should work as Roger Martin to be running in Florida.
And in fact, the swamp, our must read gossip, news, gossip. And I'm seeing gossip, but, you know, stories from DC. Yeah, about what's really going on. Tracked him. He was running on his Strava device, and he was in Kansas while he was running. So he was running in Iowa for for, you know, to be governor. He was actually physically running in Kansas again. Board candidate problematic. And the pulling out there has Rob sand at 50.6. Some polls have put him up into 52 or 53.
And Glenn are pulling out 44 this. So it's incredibly a done deal incredibly. And Iowa and Kansas you know these are like ground zero for are the pools right. I mean remember we all remember the Iowa pool. that said that that that camera was going to win. Iowa and it was out by what was it, 20 points or something? And didn't Donald Trump then threatened? Yes, Sue the pollster.
He didn't fight Sue the pollster. And that has been a disastrous court case. You would be shocked to learn, that unfortunately, that sort of assault on free speech did not go down. well in court and is still not going down well in court. So sorry about that. But yeah, these these rallies, this is going these are going to be his final closing message. He's also doing one tonight in Florida, Daytona Beach. It will actually have happened by the time you were watching this. If you're watching, you know, because we're recording this Friday morning. Yes.
But that's it. That's all, folks. And the reason he canceled the rally is the thing I think we should talk about. The reason that he's going back to them is because of panic. But the reason he canceled is because they've been going off the rails. Go on, go on. Well, we have some incredible clips, and I'm sure people have seen. some of these because they're so great. Trump rallies and we talked about this last week. They used to be they used to be very occasionally. there'd be a protester once, I don't know, every couple of months.
somebody would finally get in and they'd make a muffled noise and they'd. be, you know, sort of taken away and it wouldn't really be a thing. They are being flooded with protests. And these protests have now become the thing that everybody is talking about. And also some of the protests, some of the heckling is hilarious, isn't it? In fact, let's run we've got a couple, that I think are the, you know, just define the problem here. Let's see them, to the consternation.
of the people that protect us. I'll go home, go home, go home. You can see Trump finding it funny. I know when he goes off the ballroom, up your fat ass. Right? And, you know, Jimmy Kimmel has made t shirts and it's. But it's sort of. My T-shirt was water. Jimmy, I need one of those t shirts right now.
Come on. Jimmy. It's so on. It's exactly what people talk about. His looks, the ballroom obsession in so few words. So perfect. And then the next one in Chillicothe in Ohio, Trump went on the Jeffrey Epstein play. triplet on the Jeffrey Epstein.
No. Political violence, the political violence.
Hell, yeah. No political. Oh, we're bringing me the guest room now. We see the violence inherited in the system. He's been invited, sir. What? Why am I uninvited? I'm sick of hit songs. Where? No, I want to go back. We were having fun. Such a dreamy night here. Beautiful Ohio. Two lovers. Also funny. And Trump.
Obviously not liking that one as much because. So that very, very touchy about that. And if you're listening on YouTube we are playing the rest of that video. because the person who did it kept the camera rolling. And, it's quite an insight. It shows. It shows people trying to get close to him. It shows the police all laughing about it. Right. And, what it shows is that this whole event was derailed. And that's the problem. These events have been derailed time after time after time by these protests,
and not just in the event, but outside the events as well. One of the things that Trump loves to see is people at 20,000. people waiting outside for me, right. There's a line two miles long, two miles long, he said, you know, quite often Fox News particularly, and also some of the other, you know, the right wing streamers and so on. They go and talk to the crowds, and that's going off the rails, too. So we should show one of this is my favorite one some. Why are you here this morning?
Well, in the late 70s I was a little too young to get involved. and go to South America for the Jonestown massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get. So that's why I'm here. Wait, the Jonestown massacre? That's right. See, it's nothing like seeing a cult right up front, man. All right, so maybe maybe this is not a Trump supporter right now. It's okay. Maybe it's not. It's not. But what I loved about it was how sophisticated he was in. terms of he's leading the poor interviewer along.
and he's like Jonestown, as if you're too stupid to understand what Jonestown is. You must have made some mistake. And then he goes, yeah, up front with a cult. And you're like, yes, well, way to way to land it. And also he walked out the look, you know, I'm sure the beard is his own, but, you know, he looks like if you were looking. for someone to vox pop, you would go up to this man, say he looks like, yeah, I like a Trumper. And the thing is, this is this is what people are seeing on television.
This is what people are seeing on social media, not just people who hate Trump seeing this. That's what people in the Trump the Trump world are seeing as well. They are seeing these rallies go not well, they're seeing them. And we talked about this last week, Norma Desmond. The venues are getting smaller. The seats are getting emptier. Yeah. It's not the balm to Trump's eagle. that it had been. Every day.

And he will notice the difference too, because he's a very talented. I mean, people hate it when we say this, but but you have to give it to Trump. He's good at working a room. He's he's talented in that way and he's lost his ear for it. You can tell and you can tell the way he laughed. when the guy said, shove that ballroom up your facts. He turns around and he's laughing because he's like, damn, they got me, I think. So we've also had some problems, however, with a familiar face at Trump's rallies.
Right. Because there are these people that are called the front Row Joe's. We know the man who wears the brick suit. The Brexit. Yeah, that you pointed him out to me. Yes. Very early on as the rallies kicked back up. And then there's another character called Adam. who has had his. photo taken, done selfies with absolutely everybody. I mean, with all the MAGA royalty. And what's happened to well, this is not this is actually not a good story.
Adam has been arrested. on suspicion of or charges of possession of child. sexual abuse material, what people call child pornography. And we know that term is obviously not accurate because, you know, it's. child abuse. He is denying these charges. He is currently in jail, eating, you know, processing or whatever. in Cuyahoga County, the Cleveland suburbs that he's from.
But this is this is a tale that resonates. because this guy, as if you were watching, if you're not watching, if you're listening. And we're going through some of the photos right now. But they are a who's who of absolutely everybody in the mica movement. because these front row Joes go to every rally, they are there at every rally. And of course, we we are kind of getting like going behind the magic. at Disney or something here that people think, oh, Trump's coming.
These people are all my neighbors. He must be popular. I'm going to vote for him. That has been the sort of the network effect. that they've wanted with these Trump rallies. Well, this guy lives in Brook Park, which is one of the inner. ring suburbs of the west side of Cleveland. And he's been pictured all around the country. So these rallies are not really that organic. These front row Joe's are traveling. People are that it's completely there's an element of siege here. and they're not being paid right. They are fanatics. They want to go to this. Mr.
brick is for it, out of his own pocket. and his, his earnings from being a Maga influencer. And he's only got we've got a picture of him right now. He's the guy that wears the build. The wall suit that looks like bricks for the people listening. He's only got one. He has to get to dry cleaned. Regularly, luckily. Good to hear that. You wouldn't want one that's not dry cleaned regularly. But he goes to all of them. And that's the problem. This front row jewel. Adam. Some of the pictures we've.
got here, we've got Don Junior and Kimberly Guilfoyle. They're obviously before the split. We've got him with Charlie Kirk. We've got him. And this is really bad. He's from. He's from Ohio. We've got him with Vivek Ramaswami. Well, we should talk about Vivek Ramasamy because obviously. he's had a terrible week, terrible after the campaign. ad that he did with Amy Acton's mother. We talked about this last week. They're both running for Ohio governor. He was a partner with Elon Musk running Dodge.
And then Elon basically fired him. As far as I can see. He's he's a man who, you know, I don't know him personally. But it does appear that he's not very good at maintaining friendships. Well, he's he's a man in search of a portfolio. I think he's made a lot of money through health care. He now wants to run Ohio. And he put out this terrible ad, which I think our viewers and listeners. will be familiar with using Amy Acton's mother,
who in fact protected her husband Amy Acton's. stepfather, against accusations which went to court of rape. And he, in fact then fled, fled. the state and died still as a fugitive. Amy Acton's brother came out and said, this is absolutely outrageous. Amy Acton came out and said, yes, this is all, all true. We lived in a tent when I grew up. We were homeless. We were all abused by our stepfather in various ways.
And her mother, tragically supported. the stepfather and one of his biological children. Was tracked down this week by the Daily Mail. Right. And she had never known Amy Acton, but said, yes, this was absolutely true. Right. She said her own sister had been raped by her father. So it's it's horrendous. It's, you know, we, you know, you could say this, this allegation of rape against this man.
was never technically adjudicated by a court, so technically is not guilty. Well, it appears very credible. It is. It's the case, as you say, that he fled, from Youngstown to Pennsylvania. And I know many. people would listen to that and say, well, why didn't they just go and arrest him? This was the 1970s that this happened. He died in the 1990s. And the truth is, this is before the internet for a lot of electronics, communication and people, you know, people can be.
people could live as fugitives for years and even decades, as this guy did. without justice catching up with them, as long as they didn't go to or high or. and get pulled over by a trooper or something. Right, right. Even though there are, even though there are many people living as fugitives in court marks, particularly if you are from a poor jurisdiction, Youngstown is not a werewolf place, and it may well be that the. the sheriff's department there just doesn't have the resource.
to go and pick up all but the most serious offenders. And this obviously was a very serious offense, by the way, but, totally credible. And yet Ramaswami ran this ad using this. very obviously troubled or 82 year old lady who's been living out of her car. Well, she looks as if she's been living out of the car. I mean, why he would think that that would be an aspirational. ad for anybody living in Ohio is just extraordinarily. And he appears to have paid a price at the polls.
The latest polls are universally, well, I was going to almost universally, there is a very strongly Republican. coded poll that says that he's up within the margin of error. The others are putting Amy acting up outside the margin of error by 48 to 44, 46 to 40 9 to 44, 50 to 48 on a margin of error of two. So that's actually outside the margin of error are the Republicans.
There is a lot of chatter in Republican circles that we are hearing. that other people are hearing, that Ohio's a done deal. It's gone. That Ramaswami, is a deeply flawed candidate and is going to lose. Now. We don't know, right? That's why. we want you to come and tune in on Tuesday night, when we will begin to find out what is happening. Well, the Republican outgoing governor, Mike DeWine, came down on said this is a terrible days. Please withdraw this. And Mike DeWine not a Maga governor.
I think there's a kind of tragic element to this that make Dwayne is 78. He has held, I think, literally every statewide office, but certainly close to every statewide office in Ohio. He's been attorney general. He's been senator. He, you know, clearly has been a public servant always, like, almost always life. He also came out and said, when JD Vance and Donald Trump were talking about, they're eating the cats, they're eating the dogs, he came out and said, no, no, no, no, that's not what's going on here. And when you say that. you breed hate in our community, which is the last thing we need.
And, you know, people over decades had crossed the aisle to vote. for Mike Duane because they saw him as a very moderate, respectable. figure, a devout Catholic, and part of his appeal on that. You know, sort of the. Catholic thing was that he was very, you know, seen as being as pro-life. And that was a powerful motivator for, for some people. But also on the Catholic thing, he was pro-immigration. He was, you know, speaking out very little about the people of Haiti.
in, in, in Ohio and all of this. I mean, he hasn't withdrawn his endorsement for Vivek Ramaswami. And it kind of looks like a bit of a sad into a career. that he got dragged into this MAGA firestorm. And if Ramasamy loses, then it's very. likely, you know, it's not very likely Ramaswami loses. That's a Democrat in the governor's mansion. It is also extremely likely that the Senate seat. is going to be taken back for Sherrod Brown.
He lost, but he ran way ahead, of other Democrats. He ran ahead of Kamala Harris. He was by far smaller margin than Harris. Right. And he's a very well known statewide politician. He's up against John Husted, whose ass. has been the focus of Trump's campaigning. I don't I have no view on Sherrod Brown. Rear end. But there were polls that said that as many as 25% of people. who were going to vote thought he was already the incumbent senator.
So funny, they hadn't even noticed yet because he hadn't done anything. Maybe he used to phone more of his ass, but right. I this you know, we've talked about Kansas, we've talked about Iowa, we're talking about Ohio. These are the places that if they flip, first of all, on, on, on the front, it will say that MAGA has been showing its ass. And also they will flip Trump will flip out. because these these places, they are Trump country. That's what they thought and Republicans thought.
We've converted it. And you just put in these MAGA candidates and they will win. Well if if on Tuesday night we see that not happening. and we see these, moderate, you know, as you say, articulate, democratic. Your word. Normal, normal demo, normal people without tons and tons of personal baggage. So there's quite an effective heckle of Vivek Ramasamy at, at a rally, I think he's doing where someone.
Well, let's play the clip. Yeah. So. So are you. What are you talking about? Come on. I really want to talk. with so many things you guys sent me before. I have a, like, Samuel Chance winning. Oh, damn. The actor. He was. The problem people are talking about. This obviously relates to the allegation against Donald Trump, that there has been sexual offenses against children in the Epstein files.
These are these are things. Well, and also I think the Amy action. Sure. You know, we've got both the reference to the wider the wider national picture. Right. And of course, Donald Trump robustly denies this. And, you know, there have been no arrests or charges or anything like that. But he, Donald Trump was so closely associated with the worst pedophile. that America was, you know, was public figure of as pedophile that America has ever known. Jeffrey Epstein and then.
the vet grammer swami all in on. Exactly. You know, a related topic. It's it's shooting yourself in the foot and it's giving this, you know, the, the, the aura of invincibility that MAGA wanted to have around itself. and that we, you know, we all felt two years ago, they've got everything, you know, they've swept up a whole lot of states. They've got hosts, they've got the Senate, they've taken over the Supreme Court, they've got Joe Rogan, they've got Joe Rogan,
they've got the podcast brews, they've got Fox News. Here you have what's actually happening on the ground. Well, we don't know right. We don't know who's going to win. We don't know how people are going to vote. Polls are just an idea. But the invincibility there is this is not an invincible movement. It's being made fun of. It's being laughed at. And you talked about your Rogan. Yes. Let's talk about Joe Rogan. We. Yeah. I mean, well, they've lost them. It's that simple. Jorgen had brought these young male voters with him.
He had a you know, he had had Trump on his Vance on. He had Trump on, he Trump on for hours on his podcast. He'd given him this platform. You know, he was very motivated. by being against Covid lockdowns and by and against vaccination, against vaccination sort of rose on the tide of anti-vax. And, you know, this was a you know, I think part of this was the lockdown. thing. Well, people were at home for a lot of time.
so they could watch these endless Georgian videos. Our three hours. Who's got time, Joe? Come on. You do you do on Tuesday night Tuesday night, Tuesday night. We will be here as long as you need us to. As long as there is news, Michael and I will be like, wow. Michael will be like, wow, I need to go to bed, in which case you will come in and replace him. There is no sleep until Brooklyn for me. But Jorgen has. I don't know if he's flipped sides, but he has been speaking to the same audience.
That's the thing worth remembering. He's got the same audience. In fact, he's got a bigger audience. Because Jorgen has risen in that time. He's talking about Force One. He's talking about the corruption. He's talking about. This is from. completion at $250 million contract. Sure, I know, right. But he he's talking about particularly about not wanting the war in Iran. And of course, the war in Iran just underlies all this. You know, it's fueled inflation. It's set up.
It sent gas prices soaring. But here we have with Joe Rogan somebody who's. speaking about those issues every time he's on the air. That is not what Trump needs. He's lost him. Trump has lost Joe Rogan. Wow. And the other brewers that go with that sort of world. So can we talk about JD Vance. He's been sent out there and is just also being asked really direct questions. And he has become the master of the misdirect. I think that's what it's called.
When you asked a question. and you answer a completely different question, let's play. a couple of my favorite examples of this technique he's embracing. The question is how does the right and yourself expect us. to start families young when you know, the average price of a home in America. now costs more than $450,000, which just feels out of reach for us. Sure, sure. Well, first of all, again, thank you for the question and thanks for the support. I want to point out that I think that I've been asked for or maybe five questions.
By my count, I've only been asked one question about John Huston's ass. And and it was by Jesse water. Complete misdirect there. So thank you for your question. Thank you for your support. Let's talk about John Huston's ass again. They are obsessed. It's what this was mentioning, by the way, that the person asking that question, Kate White, is a senior figure within the turning point USC Charlie Kirk movement. So it was actually a proper question, but she was basically trying to say,
can you help me make the argument as opposed to, you know, coming from a place of criticism? So she wasn't going to fight back, and yet he still often this, you know, deflect deflect, deflect. And also she, she asks him, we didn't show the beginning of her question. because it was quite long. But she really says, you're encouraging us to have more children. You're encouraging us to get married earlier. We can't afford it, right? And, you know, that's that's the whole thing here.
That's what Jorgen has talked about. That's what people are actually talking about, is, you know, even people who are inclined towards supporting. Republicans can't get past the fact that things are costing more. And two years ago, Donald Trump campaigns, you know, this was a very effective ad that was played widely. in many of those states that we've talked about in Ohio, and particularly I that camera is really them. Donald Trump is for you. And the Republicans focused.
on the perception that Kamala Harris was, you know, focused on transgender. rights more than on inflation and the power of that attack. I think at the time Democrats thought it was because the, the, the as a group had been speaking too much. But transgender rights and you know, that's an issue for the Democrats. But the power of it really was that Republicans were talking. about inflation and affordability. And that's what resonated with people. They voted for.
measures that. would bring down inflation that was increasing for debility, and they haven't seen anything work and well, and they've had to pay more. for their health care premiums or they've come off healthcare altogether. They've got an unwanted war. They've got masked men in the street arresting their neighbors. I could go on the list is endless. JD Vance, the master of diversion they have diverted him. to, of all places, Rome. Rome room. Oh, he's not going back to kill off the Pope. Please tell me he's trying to I should we do have.
we do have news on the Pope, and I'll come to that in a second. Yes. No. He's going to Rome, in New York, upstate New York. Oh, that was a tease. That was a tease. No disrespect to the people of Rome in New York. It's near Syracuse, also named after a place in Italy. Very beautiful city, should say. But, JD Vance is going to finish the campaign in Rome, in New York. And the reason I highlight this, Joanna, is because, this is not a traditional battleground state.
Nobody expects that New York is going to be swinging. towards the Republicans in any measure or at all. There's a governor's race in the state of New York where we are sitting right now. There is there are not there there's no Senate race. But he's, you know, by the way, so the governor's race, Kathy Hochul, Kathy Hochul, who took over from Andrew Cuomo. when Andrew Cuomo had to resign amid 11 cases, 11 accusations. of harassment up against Bruce Blakeman.
Do you know who Bruce Blakeman ex-wife is married to? This is my favorite trivia question. I will take this for a thousand, Ken. Okay. Go on. You know, then, you know I do, I do. It's amazing. We've all. This is amazing. Blakeman ex wife is married to Serpell McCartney, I know. Amazing. It's incredible. Yeah, I were him. I would be leading the fact, I think, more likely to get you voted in Bruce than anything else.
I know he's he's a kind of, I we obviously we both see his ads on television. because we live in New York and the ads are slightly amateurish. And he does well, they add to old style on the very old style, you're like, oh, this is we're back in the 1980s, I'm Bruce Blakeman. But yeah, Nancy Cheval, and he says that, that Sir Paul is an excellent stepfather to their adult child. Well, that's nice. That's always good. Nice. Yeah.
But anyway, I imagine he, in fact, will be with. Not Sir Paul McCartney. Bruce Blakeman, will be with JD Vance in Rome on Monday night. And the reason I highlight Rome is because this is in a Trump. US 20 district that was held by Stefanik. She had been a Maga star. She is as she's not running for Congress, she's out. She well, she's a classic example of someone who was loyal to Trump over.
You suspect her best instincts. She was promised that he would put her at the UN to be our representative there. Then he decided to put Mike Waltz there. Mike Waltz, who'd famously given away classified military information. to the editor of The Atlantic on a signal that went awry. And Elise Stefanik was basically cast out into the cold. She was collateral damage for Trump's bigger goals. And she's had enough. Yes.
And this is therefore an open seat. And, you know, the margin of victory, you would say, oh, it's you know, this is safe Republican territory. It's not they don't think it's safe. Republican territory has barely been pulled because. it's this vast rural area, that stretches all the way up to the Canadian border and the Canadian borders. So they'll have all sorts of issues with Canadian tariffs. All sorts of local things. will be more expensive for them, including Canadian alcohol. Yes.
I it's this is a great example of where. what I'd seen this invincible MAGA, you know, sort of fortress. Donald Trump blew up the walls himself as the Canadian border in the north. Problems there. It stretches almost as far as Albany. So, you know, it's like half the North-South distance of the state. And it contains enough towns that and towns and small cities that are. going to go democratic, that they only need some voices to stay at home.
And off it goes into the Democratic column, and they'll probably have the same issues that they're having in Michigan, where. because they're right up against Canada, all sorts of things. have become more expensive. And you have Mike Rogers, the Republican candidate, sitting there. with a Canadian beer, saying, we've got to get this resolved, guys. We've got to get it resolved. And you're like, well, tell that to your president. Tell that to the leader of your party. And in all in often in these places, there are very effective TV ads.
We see them in New York. Everybody's seen these variation of this of a safe ish MAGA candidate. caught on camera at a Trump rally saying things like, welcome to our greatest president ever, or Roger Marshall in Kansas. has a quote saying, this is the greatest economy of my lifetime. It's these quotes resonate with people I no it's not. This is not the greatest economy of my lifetime. I just went to fill up. No, this is not the greatest president of my lifetime.
And even people who voted for Trump at the last time round voted Republican. They don't appreciate the cold, the cheering and the waving. Their, you know, the sort of persuadable group of people they're not into. He's the greatest ever. And there are so many clips across the country. for Republicans that are being run against them. And that's one of the tools that Democrats have been able to deploy this time. round of this sort of feeling, that they are,
you know, they're a bit weird. There's a cult they're saying, and they are saying things that just do not resonate well. And that's what the Republicans accused the Biden Knights. of doing at the last minute, which was a very effective tell me I'm. better off when I don't feel better off because I'm grocery shopping every week. I'm filling my tank every week and I can see the prices have gone up. I'm not stupid. And you know, we have, for example, Kevin Hassett, who's the White House's. chief economist, said, oh, you've got to look at it in the aggregate.
Growth is up. Well, people don't look at it in the aggregate. We actually live in a. you know, we we look at it through the lens of our own lives and, and how much money is going out at the end of the week. Do you think that JD Vance will be more effective. campaigning upstate than he was campaigning for Viktor Orban? I remember when, you know, Trump sent JD Vance, knowing that Viktor Orban. was probably not going to win, sent JD Vance to go and march up and down.
a very public stage in Hungary to vote for Viktor Orban. It's, you know, who lost. Devastating. Let's let's make it clear, you know, I think I will just sit out making election predictions. Joanna. The only come back to haunt you. They do, they do. But maybe. Well, maybe. Maybe JD could get a job. You know, like Viktor Orban. They're trying to get him a job. A secondary general of the United Nations.
Orban is being pushed by a. a group of the closest of America's allies, or as they actually know, China and Russia. China and Russia are our closest allies. What is happening in the world, Hugh? So I think I diverted you, when you said that you had a story about the Pope. We do have a story about the Pope. The port is going to make history as the first ever pope to vote. Vote in the Americas.
He's going to vote in the United States election. This is it's it's kind of extraordinary. The pope is the head of state of a foreign country. Right. And yet, because he's an United States citizen, of course, he can vote. and he has a mail in ballot. He votes it doesn't say we don't believe it, says the pope or da pope. I suppose it should say, he has a mill invalid for Wills County in Illinois. for his brother lives and for he, you know, has maintained an address.
The Pope before he was pope. I lived in the fact that lived in Vatican City or in Rome, but then before that. he lived for many years in Peru and in fact is also a Peruvian citizen. But he has always voted. He's maintained a perfect record of voting in every election. for which he could vote. And he's got a ballot. Do we know how he's registered? He previously was a registered Republican. In fact, I we don't know if that is any indication of his political sympathies.
Obviously, you can register as a Republican and vote in whatever direction. But but he was a registered Republican. in some in public records at a time. Where will I think I said Wills County. I meant Will county I. When Will county had Republican leadership and many people. you know, people in New York, for example, registered as Democrats. just so they can have a say in the primaries. There are some very famous people who have registered.
against their perceived party. In places where there, you know, there's lots of very public Republicans who are registered in, in the District of Columbia as Democrats, just so they can vote in the primaries. It's the only they feel. It's the only way that they can have a C, as the pope has been registered. as a Republican right now. Of course, we don't know because, we don't know what his current registration. is because these things in Illinois are done slightly retrospectively. But we know his brother is MAGA.
He's got a Maga brother. He has a mica brother who lives in Florida. Right. And he has another brother. whose political affiliation we do not know, who lives in Illinois. And it's the brother in Illinois where he's registered. We definitely know how how Louis has. his Florida brother will be voting. No doubt there. He's met Donald Trump a number of times, but of course, the Pope himself has not done. But we know that the Pope has frequently spoken out against Donald Trump. And JD do know that. And the Pope as well has just, had.
a cancerous one removed from his long. So we do hope, obviously, I should say, by the way, as well as being Scottish, I'm Catholic. I'm very pleased that America has its own pope. We obviously. don't want the Pope to be unhealthy, so. Stay away, JD. Well, Hugh. I'll be back tomorrow with Inside Trump's head and Michael Wolff. looking at the last stages of the rallies. will be pouring over Trump's comments and the heckles and the protesters.
And we'll be back on Tuesday, Election Night Live, where Hugh will be bringing us all the latest updates of every seat. You're anxious about Darlene Graham. Is she going to squeak through, or is Annie Andrews. going to kick the Graham family to the curb? We're going to know about Susan Collins in Maine. This will be early, very early because the East Coast comes back early. So it's James Talarico and Texas.
in Texas, Ramasamy in Ohio, Max Miller, the alleged wife beater in Ohio, and child and child alleged. Yes. And I mean, there's just. there are so many more and it's going to be amazing. I cannot wait to hear from you. And I hope you won't have the results of the Alaska election. But, you know, I'm hoping for Daniel J. Sullivan. The last admission to the ballot. The man who lives on an island inaccessible except by plane and boat.
He sounds really Alaskan. He's a. The Alaskans voted for Daniel J. Sullivan and sent him to Washington. Come on. And if you're like, this is not a formal. This is not a formal endorsement. Of course it's not a formal endorsement. Come on, Daniel J. The man who just rolled into it when someone asked him. to bring fish to the Senate, how funny would it be if he ends up going to Washington, Daniel J.
If you're watching. Good luck sir. Good luck, and thank you to those of you who've joined us. What it's always fun to to roll through the news with Huey. As I said, I'll be back tomorrow with Michael Wolff. Big thanks to our production team. Ryan Murray, John Romero, Rachel Passa, Heather Pesaro, and Neil Rosenhaus. So the good news is we have so many BBC tier members now. There are too many names to read out and we really appreciate your support.
