He is wearing his Easter pastels. Normally he's in a blue shirt with the blue jacket. We are very smart. Very smart. But that's weird. I'm getting some feedback, Annika. But now it's gone. Anyway, we're going to go through everything from the strange story,

the accusations by the 13 year old aimed at Donald Trump, to the shoes that all the members of the cabinet are wearing. Amy, are you wearing those shoes? You know what I'm just checking if my shoes are visible in the shot. I don't believe they are. I am not wearing my Florsheim. I'm not worried. But we have a lot to discuss on that front. So it's such an interesting story. Also, if you're a member of Amazon Prime, you got your drop of Melania this week.

I know you watched it. I have binged. I have a lot of thoughts. I've got a lot of fun. I know you've got all thoughts about it because, you know, I always have a look at an early adopter I was in earlier. You were there on the first. I went on the first day for the theatrical release. The question is, are you. going to purge having binged? Well, that's a good question. I will think about that and give you an answer as we after we've discussed. Well, I don't know if Melania was there with Donald Trump last night, but he had something of an explosion on Truth Social.

And noted that he for 47 years, the Iranians have been. attacking Americans, and he's the 47th president. So there's a connection and he's really enjoying bombing them. So we're going to talk about his rhetoric around the war. We're going to talk about JD Vance, who's not got any rhetoric around the world. He's not. But we are going to talk about his, his evening activities. and, some very intriguing practices that he has.

I'll just leave that down teaser and we can come back to that. Okay. I'm still fascinated by what those, Okay. Where do we start? Should we start with Trump's social part? The social post? On, truth social? I think that's a very good place to start. So start at the very beginning. So very good place to start. Sorry. I'm just. If only one had the wholesome entertainment of The Sound of Music.

right now. Instead, we have the sound of Trump. We have the sound of Trump with the the sound of Truth social, Joanna, which is pretty much like if anybody treats socials. in the middle of the night, unless the president. Does anybody care? Does anybody here? So I just want to read. I should I read all the parts of this truth social, I probably should. Yes, you should. Because if you're not on Truth Social, you need to know what the president is saying. And Huey is going to read it in his native accent. I know Joanna does an excellent impersonation for those who.

It's not very good. Well, it's better than mine. For those who are do not know me, I am Scottish. So this is Donald Trump in the voice of his grandparents, I guess, with the Scottish accent. Okay. So, that's the sort of interesting. So Trump, Trump posted this at 1233 in the morning. From the white House. We are totally destroying the terrorist regime. of Iran militarily, economically and otherwise. Yet if you read the failing New York Times,

you would incorrectly think that we are not winning. Iran's navy is gone. Their airspace, their air force, I'm sorry, is no longer. Missiles, drones and everything else have been decimated. and their leaders have been wiped from the face of the earth. We have unparalleled firepower, unlimited ammunition, and plenty of time. Watch what happens to these deranged scumbags today. Can we just pause on that line? I ask you, please. The American president saying, watch what happens to. those deranged scumbags today.

I don't think that's a line he would even have used on The Apprentice. No, I think this is. it's really interesting that this is way farther than we you know, we've been watching Donald Trump since The Apprentice, since before The Apprentice. But as president since 2016 to, to, you know, 2017 to 2021, you didn't see things that were that direct. or that crazy then and now he appears, completely untethered.

And I think this is really pretty untethered. Well, and anybody who has a teenager is always telling them, do not text. in the middle of the night. Do. I mean, basically, don't say anything. You don't want to appear on the front page of the of the New York Times. And of course, I suppose he does want this to appear on the pages. of The New York Times, but it's so. it's such weird language for the American president, for the president of the free world. By the way, we have lots of people listening from all over the world.

Someone is saying, Jeff Venn diagram. is saying country. I want to do a Yorkshire accent. Yes, I cannot. If you stay tuned, I might do one a bit later. We've got people from Berlin, we've got someone from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, we've got people from southwest England, northern Ontario. This is very exciting. We've got global global viewership. It's really exciting. I think one of the things that we would probably going. to be talking about is the global impact, right?

We we just talked about his social and, you know, kind of. extraordinary truth social. That was at 12:33 p.m.. That was a truth social heads around the world, because the whole world is watching what is going on in Iran, quite obviously. And they seem as perplexed as we do. Trump addressed the G7 on Wednesday. The the group of the most affluent and developed, developed countries. and each of their leaders came away with a different impression. of what he had said. Well, because he doesn't know what he's saying, right.

I mean, this is the point that Michael Wolff always makes on Inside. Trump's head, one of our Daily Beast podcasts, which if you don't watch, I can strongly recommend. But he's ad libbing the war. He doesn't know what he thinks about the war. There is no plan and he just makes it up from moment to moment. And he says whatever he thinks, I think is going to give him a bit of leeway. in the moment. So you've seen him being accused of of, of really obstructing the truth around whatever happened with the girls school,

which was unfortunately next to the Revolutionary Guard base. that got bombed on the very first Saturday. So 13 days ago at this point, and it appears that unfortunately was hit by Americans. in a terrible in a catastrophic accident, 150 girls killed. But even Pete Hegseth said that we were investigating. But Trump presented with what appeared to be the findings of the investigation. Just was very, very squirrely. It wasn't us.

It was them. It was them. It was definitely them. I mean, this is not the behavior of a traditional. commander in chief. And of course, we've got used to Trump not behaving traditionally. But even so, this is just it's just bizarre. And it's not playing well with his base either. I mean, here's what's interesting. I understand that people play. to their political bases, but this is not playing well with MAGA. It's not. And one of the things about this deranged Truth Social post.

that we're talking about, he knew when he posted at least four, members of the crew of a KC one, three five tanker had had died. And what we, you know, appears to be a midair collision, with another another flying. So this was. when the refueling and, they were which is always a very dangerous. Yes. Highly dangerous. It happened over the western desert of Iraq. And at that point, four of those crew, then crew members were confirmed as having died.

Sadly, no. That death toll has been confirmed as six. All the crew members on board and despite. that, Trump's words were not there to express, sympathy. or sorrow for the loss of the service people who report to him. Ultimately, as commander in chief, it was to say, that it was a great. honor to be killing the the leaders of Iran. and that sort of rhetoric is is not. obviously what people have expected in the past.

It's not even what people were kind of expecting the last time he was president. It's really, really farther along the line than it was before. Well, then it it seems to be the language of video games. So we're now seeing the propaganda that the Americans putting out with video. games is into spliced with celebrities into spliced with pop songs. Some of the singers are now or that. the musicians. are now coming out and saying, hey, I never gave you permission to do this. So it's a mess. It's a mess.

There's no comfort for any of the families, of the servicemen. and women who've lost their lives. Traditionally the role of a president, it's not playing well with his base. It's obviously not playing well with the country as a whole. His polls are in well are tanking. So I can't see why he's doing this. But it's it's a really good question. And I perhaps recall the words of Michael Wolff, on Inside Trump's head that it's all inside Trump's head and.

the external reasons that you'd normally expect of. why somebody would do something didn't really apply here. We still don't really have an answer as to why he went to war. There was another answer. You know, one of the answers he's now given is that it's good for oil prices. because they're going up and the United States is an oil exporter. Right. Which is an extraordinary explanation. Well, and it's. clearly an ex post facto explanation. Right.

But I think, the, you know, this week has been very difficult to parse what's going on there. It started or I guess it didn't quite start. Last Saturday, he went to Dover Air Force Base for the dignified transfer. of the first six troops to die in action in Kuwait. And they were hit at their base by a raiding and strike. And that is it should be an extraordinary moment. of an American president paying tribute to the people who paid the ultimate price.

And that appeared until it happened. It seemed like a very, you know, kind of in the line of presence have done that. just seems absolutely in line with their previous practice. And then he wore a white trucker hat. Right. His USA white trucker hat. And that sort of set the tone for a very mixed up week where the, the sorrow and the weight of war. does not appear to be on his shoulders.

Well, I don't think anything's on his shoulders, right. I mean, what's so fascinating about Trump is he does have a sense of humor. I understand why he plays with his base, but I it's hard to understand. why he's doing this war other than to support. the Israelis who called him with last minute. intelligence that they could take out the Iranian leadership. Anyway, Paula Pastore is a Paula. Pastore is saying 47 is also his IQ.

I still well, we should do a test. We should we should do a test. And just as a reminder, he has done tests year. He's done the Moca test, he's doing the Moca test, relentlessly, repeatedly because his doctor, John. Gartner, has told us he is clearly being monitored. for decline. And I think it's an interesting point that, Minka 83, thank you for your comment. I wonder if the war is just to give his friends in the oil business a boost. And this raises a really interesting point.

It may be that. Trump thinks it's going to give them a boost. He's got a very transactional, simplistic view of things like oil prices. Oil prices are going up. That sounds like a good thing. Well, obviously we all pay at the pumps and then we pay an inflation. when oil prices go up. But if you are, I think in Trump's. mind, if you're an oil company, this is great. But he's already, which is not what they see, by the way, just right.

But but he's already given his friends in the oil business a boost with, Venezuela. Remember, you know, last month. Hello. Nobody is talking about Venezuela. That tiny little country was not that little in, South America. Do you remember when he had all the oil executives around the table. and he focused on Harold? How many? Said, Harold, you're the kind of guy that you can put a straw. in the ground and you suck on it, and up comes oil. And then he said, very weirdly. And you have you have some problems, Harold.

Time when we're all like, what are the problems? And we still don't know. And by the way, Harold Hamm is one of two final candidates. to become the senator from Oklahoma to replace Mark Wayne. Morgan, who has become is supposed to become the Homeland. Security secretary to replace Ice Barbie. I know it's very strange, sequence of events, and I do not think that's how you get straw. I do not think the straw is how you get oil out of the ground. I don't know, I'm not an expert. Well, you don't know anybody, but we have somebody from Calgary, which is Big Oil City.

Okay. In our 1701. Right. If oil is found by by just putting a straw in the ground, I'm sure the people of Calgary will know about it. I think that's probably true. And plants info 24. Plants info 24 says this administration is a nightmare. Getting worse by the minute. Andrew, look, we've got greetings from Ecuador from Rio. How do we pronounce that? Oh, last week. I don't know how we pronounce that, but thank you.

Greetings from Ecuador. We're taking the greetings, and we're taking greetings. And, just to remind people, Trump has a military operation on the ground. in Ecuador, which on its own, that would be pretty extraordinary. But it was kind of overshadowed by going to war in Iran. So, you know, keeping up with the kinetic pace of war is obviously hard, but keeping up the pace. of the number of places that Trump is going to war is even harder. Right? And we may throw Cuba into the mix. Right?

That's nice. I mean, Lindsey. Graham has been jumping up and down demanding that we go into Cuba next. So it's all he has. And I think that brings us neatly to a topic that we are. very keen to talk about, which is Trump's shoe fetish. Well, I think are you why is that to do with Lindsey Graham? Because, there are. a number of people who have received shoes from Donald Trump. Is Lindsey Graham. One is believe that Lindsey Graham is one of them. And I'll just, throw in some new information.

I don't know if you have this yet. Ana Navarro, who. in fact, was on the Daily Beast podcast, in its most recent edition on Thursday. Has got an opinion on these shoes, and I'll just set the scene. We found out that Donald Trump is giving shoes. to members of his cabinet and people around him, and it's the anecdote that we found out was that he was in the Oval Office, and there were three people in the Oval Office, and he looked at their feet.

and said, I'm going to get you shoes or words to that effect. because your shoes are not smart enough. And he asked their shoe sizes and somebody said they were size 12. Somebody else said they were size 11 and somebody said size seven, which is kind of small for a man of just, you know, point out. Ana Navarro, who has been a Republican activist for decades, has a theory as to who the size seven is because that person does not come forward. and she is saying she believes it is Lindsey Graham.

Oh, she believes Lindsey. Oh, I thought it was going to be Marco. Well, it's a good question because we've seen Marco's shoes. Well, Marco. So, so this is the most bizarre story to me that the president doesn't want. And I guess he was looking at their feet. and some of them were in kind of semi trainers, which is sort of what you've got on half train, a half shoe. What are they called? Shiners. I'm not sure what they're called. Shameless. Shameless. Anyway, whatever he was like, this is not what central. casting demands for a television show about cabinet members.

We want people in shiny black shoes. And so he's distributed them to his cabinet. But Marco Rubio, if you haven't seen the photo, I hope we can flash it up. Was seen wearing shoes that were clearly too big for him. They were like a child in their father's shoes. You know how children often put on their parents shoes and sort of shuffle forward? It looked like Michael, hold on, those children. Yes, we have all done that. And actually, Trump has finally addressed this.

Go on. I believe we actually have, some audio from the president. Is that right? And we are going to play the president's. own intervention in this debate. And tell you where they're staying. True. And, you know, in the nice you what are you doing as someone who for many. years has watched shoes that were no good.

and, you know, would not be comfortable. So I have to say that when they tell me they have a problem with shoes and. now now. I know, like I remember when I was working in a circus. Right. So this is the one that I don't like. The cabinet members wearing because this is. Donald Trump. Spiffy. old fashioned word. and a gift from Donald Trump.

The thing I thought with Marco's shoes, which are clearly far too big for him, was that Donald Trump deliberately ordered Marco Rubio. the wrong size shoes so he would slip up in them. Well, actually, that's a very good question here from, it's from, building 19. I'm betting Trump wears each pair before giving away those shoes. for all the shape of his swollen feet.

Intriguing, intriguing. I literally think he gave them to Marco Rubio and Marco Rubio. would fall and slip in the shoes. Or Marco Rubio exaggerated the size of his feet and is now stuck. Wearing shoes are too much, too big for him, which in which he will come. across someone else here is saying, this is Carol Willingham 7605. Didn't Michael Wolff say that Epstein bought people shoes? Yes he did. He said that he found shoes that were very comfortable. And so he bought hundreds of them and he would give them to people.

I'm sure they were Brunello Cuccinelli or something. Right. There's no way Trump's doing that. Definitely not. Because these were $148, $148. They're actually they're on this kind of designer shoe warehouse. We don't get any revenue for saying that. But so if you two want to look like a Trump cabinet minister. wearing a gift from Donald Trump, you can order them, but you have to go two sizes up there. So if you are, you have to write to get the authentic you want. Is that but who is a cabinet minister would wear those?

I was talking to Steve Schmidt for an interview. we're going to release on Sunday. And he said that as a man, if someone gave him a pair of shoes, his boss gave him a pair of shoes like that, he would never wear them. Steve Schmidt, the Republican operative who was to work for George. Bush in his white House to W Bush in the white House, so very experienced political adviser figure, just thought it was ridiculous. and that it was a control mechanism by Donald Trump. I think that's that's a really good night. So that's a good suggestion.

I'll just say that a number of people are pointing out, tickler meets seven, three three, eight. Thank you for being a member. Cheap ass shoes. And, Terry. 246656. The shoes are bugged. The shoes could be bugged. Actually, you've got. That is a really good point. The shoes could be tracked and bugged, so there might be a tracking device in it. so they know where you're going. You always know where your little marker was. Have you seen your little marker. Right. Maybe that's what happened to Corey Lewandowski, that they tracked him. to the bedroom in the seven, three, seven, whatever it was playing that.

he was flying around with Christina, though. they deny that they were involved. They denied it. They used their flying bedroom in the sky. Yeah. On the deportation plate. B2. perhaps he had left his floor signs outside. hoping that somebody would polish them because you need to have them shine. They come pre shined and you never need them shined again. And I'm just mention, it's interesting that Michael Wolff reasons this Epstein link.

because we are going to talk. later about something in the Epstein files that is haunting Trump. But everything always come back, comes back to Epstein. It is pretty extraordinary. Epstein, Epstein, it. Epstein, Epstein. And also Trump does have a thing about shoes. We remember when he was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania, that amazingly, when he was crouched behind the podium. with all those Secret Service people who threw themselves on him to protect him. in an incredible display of putting themselves before the wannabe.

candidate at that point, that he was like, shoes, I've got to get my shoes, let me have my shoes before he would go to safety to the vehicle. And just as an aside, but Florsheim, its parent company, is suing Trump because of his tariffs. Oh, interesting. So so we should ask the white House. We should call the white House and ask them what they think, because he's obviously a bulk buyer of their products. he is about, but he could get a refund on his own tariffs.

Well, that might incentivize him to give everybody else refund said yes. All right. So we are now going to be moving swiftly on to. do we want to talk about the 13 year old story? It's a pretty grim I think there's a lot to talk about. And we should. But, I don't want to depress people too much. So why don't we talk about an Epstein free? Still? Actually. Hold on. That's good. Sen. Epstein story. Well, it's good to talk about Melania. Oh, Melania. Melania the movie.

We'll keep it an Epstein free zone. Hope at that. Okay, well, we can mention we can mention Jeffrey Epstein with Melania. because we know they were friends and they will hang out together. And we've all seen the photos of, hanging out with Glenn Maxwell. Yes. She emailed Glenn Maxwell as well. Yep. And Glenn Maxwell emailed her back, calling her Sweetpea S, which is. sort of a British thing, actually, although I don't call anybody. I was Christy of the oh, me, Sweetpea, probably. Well, I could start and I'm fine, I could start. But Melanie of the movie, if you if you didn't.

go to see it in theaters and let's face it, most people didn't. Although I did, I was, as you said, an early adopter. It's on Amazon Prime this week. It slipped into your Amazon Prime feed. Huey, I know you were up all night. Well, I it slipped into my Amazon Prime feed. I'll just say that I didn't opt for the ad free version. So I got a couple of ads in the middle. What were they ads for? Were they targeted to you or were they representative of Melania the movie?

I think I actually that's an interesting question. At the start, there was an ad for Fox Nation, and I don't think that was I don't believe that was targeted at me. But in the in the course of them, I think they were just based on our Amazon Prime shopping, to be honest. Okay. They were pretty banal, but, but what did you make of the movie? What did you think of Melania, our first lady, by the way? I thought, I'm not going to say this is a good movie.

I'm not a movie critic, folks. It's The Daily Beast has an excellent movie, a couple of excellent movie critics, Nick Shaker and Kevin Fallon. So I'm not a movie critic, so I'm going to avoid star ratings, but I thought it was actually an amazing insight into Melania, and I don't think that she meant it to be such an amazing insight. So I felt that I learned a lot. about somebody who there was a bit, I'd actually like to. she said something really interesting at the white House on Wednesday.

to mark Women's History Month, she made a rare appearance at the white House with her husband, and she described her life as solitary, which is, it seemed like a very odd thing to say. And then when I watched, this hour and 40 minutes. or so, it, it she actually appeared very solitary. She didn't appear to have around her people who were just there for her. And she, certainly had some sort of relationship with Donald Trump,

but it didn't seem to be one that counted on off the camera. Well, interesting. And I think, I mean, I came away with the same conclusion that and in fact, I've written a Substack about it for tomorrow that inadvertently, this gives away much more than she thinks it does. And I couldn't help wondering if this was Brett Ratner's. life film directing, actually, because it's all it all. takes place in the 20 days in the run up to the inauguration. She doesn't have a single friend in it.

The people who are and who she talks to are all paid. advisers, or people who are paid for their services. So you have David Mumm, the event designer, who is explaining to her what the event, the inauguration. and the dinner, the sort of rehearsal dinner the night before for all the big donors, is going to be like and she is sort of playing the role and pretending. that she's sort of signing off on the final colors and things. But it seems completely clear that he has done every decision.

he's made, every decision, and she's just having it explained to her. But for the for the, conceit of the camera. and the documentary, she's pretending that she's had something to do with it. I think one of the things that was. interesting and I will say, if you've got Prime, watch it, I don't think you get they don't get any more money from more people watching it. So they've she's had her 75 million, or I should say, the movie sets at 75 million. And we believe she got somewhere.

It's like 20 odd million. Of course she's got 28 out of the 40. And then she was supposed to get a backend deal from the movie houses. Yes. And at one point there was talk of sponsorship, but that doesn't seem to have been any sponsors. No, the definitely no one was thanked at the end. No. You know. No. And one of the interesting things, but when you can watch on TV is. you can pause and check things out. And the sense that this was all for the cameras was overwhelming.

You will remember that she. gets on a video chat with Macron, and I was kind of intrigued. Is she going to speak French? Melania claims to speak five languages. No. Like an English, right. But Brigitte Macron did in fact speak in an English quite a lot. So she definitely speaks to, but what was what I was able to notice in the, in. the TV screen was that when you paused and looked at it, this whole thing. was being recorded on the same software that we use for our podcasts.

So the video chat had been set up so that it could be recorded. And I felt everything was everything was for the cameras, but I'm sure that they must have. Cool. Brigitte Macron said, listen, we're making this documentary. We need you to show up. And they also had, I think, the Queen of Jordan, Queen Rania of Jordan at Mar-A-Lago. And again, she was kind of uncomfortable. She kind of looked like a job interview or something. And she was agreeing that they both have foundations.

Right. Well, there was a bit of competitive foundation. Yes, work going on. I thought that Melania was like, fostering your trust foundation. and, I just what it was like, oh, everybody has a foundation. Yes, everybody. Everybody, everybody. There were some amazing quotes. Were talking about the. the, organizing the ball. Yep. The first thing that the first thing that Melania says is. every day I live with purpose and devotion,

orchestrating the complexities of my life. while not sharing my family's needs. And we then, very quickly went to a picture of her being measured. for her clothes. So I was kind of like, I don't know, is that complex? And where are your family's needs? But she was quick to say, my creative vision is always clear. Is it clear that I'm alone? And I watched for another hour and 25 minutes. I still don't know what a creative vision is. Well, what I loved was where the designer said,

oh, she knows so much about fashion because she was a model. So her instructions very precise, and she really used this designer language. And then she's really, like too tight, makes it live longer, back hurts make more. So that didn't seem very fashion speak to me. That just seemed like, oh, this isn't this is a bit snug. And also, we know that the creative vision for the interior. décor that she was photographed, she was in Trump Tower being measured. And I don't know I don't know what you call it, but with art brothel or something. Both.

That's very, it's it's not her creative vision. He hasn't changed the décor since he built it. And, that was long before she was in the United States, so, I don't know, it's, And there's no there's no insight in the movie. as to why our first lady moved here on what is known as a visa. for people of exceptional abilities, known as the Einstein visa, for people who have special abilities. What, special abilities? It's a very good question.

I should say. Both Diane and I are privileged. to have come to the United States as immigrants, and, we've had various paths, but I certainly didn't think I was eligible for an Einstein visa. I maybe I should have thought about it. Maybe I should have gone mostly. Well, you do have remarkable abilities as an editor. I will say you have Einstein in quality of headline writing. Headline writing. I've seen my other big takeaway. Oh, wait a minute. Mental, 83, is saying how much of her movie was written by Stephen Miller.

Oh, oh, she has much of a relationship with Stephen Miller. It's a good question. It's a good question. I, I have also read Melania's book, and I know you have Joanna. Well, I don't think Milani and that's what I. there were moments in the movie, but I was a bit like. like she's reading I or something, or when she went to Arlington National Cemetery, which no, that Trump her husband to Senate, sent troops. to war, seem to have an extra resonance to me. But,

she seemed to be reading a bit of the guidebook about what it is. Oh, here it is, Arlington Cemetery. It is for suckers and losers or. No way. It's. That was my husband's expression. I mean, it's just unbelievable. But she's clearly making an effort. Or her advisors, whoever they are, she doesn't appear to have very many advisors to be taken more seriously. So she makes the documentary about herself, though largely it's. about her being told what the plans are that she's supposed to have come up with.

and to try to snag too big here. Let's bring here. And then that strange dress she wore for the inauguration ball. was she had parts of her body redacted, I think. So Donald Trump couldn't touch them anyway. But she's obviously trying to be taken more seriously. So she, she had the movie made. She spoke to the UN ten days or just before the beginning of the war. A role normally. taken up, admittedly, by First ladies, but when they were Hillary Clinton.

Yeah. So that was a sort of strange. I think Hillary Clinton spoke to the UN because she was secretary of state. And the first lady, she spoke because she talks about women's rights. Yes. And a famous speech about about that. Yeah. Right. And of course, when she was, can you remember what Melania Trump said to the United Nations? I can she said, education, peace through education. That's what she said. The peace through education. That was a weird that was a slightly that was a bit of a Scottish. I, I see that Scottish Melania. Yeah.

I mean yeah, yeah. But mock up McCallum. Yeah. But she's trying to be taken seriously. Then she gives a speech for Women's History Month, despite the fact. we know nothing about her own history. Sort of deliberately so, I think. So she's struggling to be taken seriously and to be a woman of substance. And yet, as I argue in my new Substack column, which I hope will drop later tonight, she's actually a vacancy.

She is unknowable. There's nothing in there other than someone who writes with AI. and who is dressed by other people, who hosts dinners. that are organized by other. Is, in theory, central casting. But she may become the new Barbie White House, you know, first lady Barbie. There's a lot.

Well, I mean, now, Christine, Christine, is going that is a vacancy for Barbie. The thing that struck me was the the movie, sort of unintentionally, I assume, unintentionally kept undercutting what she said. And possibly the best thing of all was, she voices that she would like. to evolve the role of the first lady beyond social duties. It immediately cut to the Building museum in Washington, DC, where they were having social duties in the form of a bowl. And I don't know if that was intentional or ironic or was this the ball.

the night before? This was the night. before the night before the inauguration, where they have gold eggs. I mean, it's worth watching it because they have eggs that have been dyed. gold, and then they have caviar on them and you get good view of Elon Musk. You get a good view. In fact, all of America's billionaires who turned up to support him. for the inauguration are all feted at this dinner the night before. And we learned a bit weirdly, we learned a bit more from this movie about who was there. Both John and I, I should say, were in DC that weekend. and say we weren't at that and we were not there as a fly on the wall.

I would have preserved the gold egg, I might have eaten the caviar, but I would have preserved the gold. I can't preserve caviar. So you got to you got to eat it. I mean, that's that, right? Right. But we saw there Jeff Bezos, the man who funded or. I think we've got some news on that, actually. But the man whose company gave funded. this documentary was there, and you're on Musk was there. And, slightly weirdly, this is, you know, black tie occasion of both is wearing the tuxedos.

Women are in ball gowns. Elon Musk is there and he's sitting opposite Donald Trump at this point was, you know, is absolutely his closest friend, the man he loved more than. what was it they had a man crush, the man they both had a mutual man crush on. Everybody else at the table is just sitting there. Steve Wyckoff is there. Who's going to become a big character? Elon Musk's, partner, I guess, of one of one of his baby mamas, drapes herself on his knee and, start messing with his hair,

which was just a kind of bizarre scene, that this was how. this whole thing went down. And DC. well, I think and quite interesting to mess with his hair. because he's had transplants, right. He's had the he's got the rows of it's like the corn was probably on. or like plantings on is probably high risk to even touch it if you it was right. But but the but this was my big takeaway right. That I wasn't sure who was there.

I wasn't sure what the vision is and yet it was all photographed. It was all everything seemed to be for the cameras. Well, Melania said that she knew who was there. because it was for all the donors. I think she said off for big donors. And that was all the big donors. And they're very stylish. It's not very stylish donors. I wonder if Jeff. Bezos is now trying to creep back. somehow from the $40 million that they spent on the documentary, and then the extra $40 million they spent promoting it.

when it was in theaters across what a global global release, global release. Never seen anything like it. Did anything like it? No, that's not really how he speaks, but sort of adenoids. or anyway, because didn't. he address reporters at the Washington Post this week? Pretty extraordinary thing. Yeah. He had some of the most senior reporters and editors at the Washington Post, to his house for dinner. He has a home in Kalorama. I have been to his home in Kalorama. It's pretty damn.

It used to be an art museum. That's how big it is. And downstairs, when you walk in on the ground floor, the to the right, there are the bathrooms, and there's like, five stools. It's not just like a guest bathroom with a with a diptyque candle lit. This is like a stool of five bathrooms. There were 12 body wash, that of body wash. So, this is just this is the access to the beautiful house, beautiful home. And inside, after the five stalls, they went upstairs. to a dining room, I guess, beautiful art.

It's a fantastic art collection. Well, you know what? We haven't even discussed Melania's art collection, which I think we should come back, but we could absolutely come back to that. Yeah. So the reporters and editors went upstairs. They were served, steak, halibut dusted and peck and pecans. Some greens. And then things actually got confrontational. The a number of them asked. Jeff Bezos about his commitment to the Washington Post, which we know has been a big question.

And they asked him, what about the 75 or 80 million. that you have spent on Melania the documentary? Good question, which is a very good question. And he claimed that he had not made that decision himself. That's the first time that, he or Amazon. have addressed who might be the actors behind this. He says it was not him, and he claims it's. going to make money, which is an extraordinary claim. Documentaries just don't usually make that amount of money. Well, then they don't normally cost $40 million.

They do not normally cost $40 million. But the you know, and normally people don't pay the subjects of documentaries. to be part of them. There are some celebrities who are doing their own, like David Beckham. But the whole arrangement unprecedented. And finally he's been questioned about it. So he says that the 80 million that they spent on the documentary. will earn itself back. He says earn itself back. I fear that I. may have helped along by pressing play on Amazon Prime. But I can't contact it even seems a guilty pleasure.

Yeah, it's totally a guilty pleasure. And you learn more about her than she thinks that you're going to learn. I think unless. she's trying to signal to us that she's isolated in there and the toys. Yeah, she really doesn't seem that happy. You see her laughing a couple of times and apparently. she looks excruciatingly embarrassed. when Donald's doing that kind of weird dance that he does. Whatever. It's iconic. She also does a bit of dancing, as you remember. I know I'm just not going to. I don't dance, I don't dance right not to.

She comes in, she goes like this and they're kind of laughing to thriller. I think she likes Michael Jackson. She's a big fan of Jackson, who weirdly, he wore Florsheim shoes. He did. He wore the loafers. Donald gives out the. oxfords, but, slightly, slightly peculiar. Like they're incredible connectivity I know. So this well interesting. And a small point. When Jeff Bezos bought the Washington Post. for $250 million, which was what in 2014, he bought it off.

the Graham family, obviously, Kay Graham famously, the proprietor and owner. during the Watergate, scandal, which, of course, the paper broke, but. he's now, I think, ten. times wealthier and yet making cuts at the paper. It's a very strange ownership of what. was a storied paper, I think. Yeah, it's really because this is all in the Trump era. This is all the era of Trump.

There where I do not think there were any other newspaper owners. who in the past would have gone to. the president's ball and then done the deal, or had their company do a deal, or maybe the company just did a deal. With them to make a documentary. So it seems highly unlikely that they wouldn't have us based. or at least run it by him. And I'll just say that, Pookie 5 or 5 one points out that this documentary is not number one on Amazon. That is correct. It actually took me a bit of scrolling to get to it so that they.

they don't seem to be pushing it. That hard. Well, they may not be pushing it at you because they knew that you were a Daily. Beast editor. That is possible. That's why I watched it. Yeah, of course, of course. Anyway, it's like watching a long Instagram and it's very well shot. And there's an amazing opening, unironic shot of Mar-A-Lago. with the drone at the beginning, which I found pretty compelling. Yes. And I actually thought that something it was going to be knowing and ironic. because this amazing tracking shot down onto the grass and,

and I thought, I thought it's going to be one of those adverts where she would turn. and wink at the camera, but, there is no humor in there. Well, if he ever has to sell it, it will be a very good. real estate video for the property. That. That's a very good point, right? Yes. Very good. This one. Careful. Firstly, the owner. All right. So let's talk about this Epstein story, which is really beginning to haunt. Donald Trump. And no matter where he turns and how hard he tries to wag.

the proverbial dog, this is a story that is hanging around like a bad smell. Yeah. I just want to say that I didn't. I can you get a theory about this and about why it's not going to go away? But let's just set up what's happened here. In the Epstein files in the second tranche of them. that was finally released after huge pressure, particularly. from congressional Democrats. There are just, you know, there are thousands. and thousands of new documents that we did not know about.

And one of them is. the FBI records of interactions. with a woman who described to them being abused by Epstein. when she was 13, in South Carolina. And this South Carolina. I mean, it was based in Florida. What was he doing in South Carolina? How did she meet him? So this, this, this goes back to her childhood, obviously. And she says that her mother signs around the neighborhood,

saying that she was available to do babysitting something. Really? You know, a 13 year old girl babysitting. This was in 1984. Very, you know, wholesome routine, normal thing, in Hilton Head in South Carolina. And that somebody got in touch and booked her to go babysitting, and she got there. And in fact, the what? This was not somewhere. that was babies to sit that she was sexually abused by two men.

And she came to realize later in life, or I should say that. this sexual abuse continued. And she described this to the FBI. This woman gave four interviews to the FBI about the sexual abuse. that she says that she had suffered at the hands of Jeffrey Epstein. She says that she was compelled to keep it secret. and that that this man, in fact, blackmailed her and her mother, by saying that he had nude, nude photographs over and in the 1980s.

You can imagine this is not you know, this is before the age of, right. So cell phones, this is, you know, the idea that they're nude photos is. horrific is not just horrific, but really, you know, kind of off the scale charts of of unusual. So the FBI conducted four interviews with this woman, and in the fourth interview, she said that she she told them that she had also. been sexually abused by a man that she'd come to realize with Donald Trump. She said that she was forced to perform a sex act on Donald Trump,

and that in course, she ended that sex act by biting the shit out of it. I can only use their imagination, I think, and that, she had been. taken to Atlantic City to be sexually abused. So this was a this was told to the FBI, and the FBI kept meticulous records of this, obviously. And I think the reason that this story is going to haunt. Donald Trump is I just want to set this up.

The white House a very robustly denied this story. And they say that it is completely untrue. It is not from a credible source and that there are, you know, there are many allegations made in the Epstein files. which are unverified and unverifiable and not credible. I just put that out there that it's the White House's position on this. Caroline Leavitt said this repeatedly, but the reason that this is going to haunt. Trump is because there are still missing files. There are still things that we do not know.

And, Josh Fialho. on the Daily Beast, Daily beast.com, is able to see that we actually know what files are missing. There are numbers. So file three 5 or 1.04 5 or 1 we can read. And the next file has a number eight. So that means there are seven missing files. We think that there are more than 30 pages and that they include interview notes. And also they may include clues about what the FBI did next.

So I understand that the white House have completely denied this story. And they've also said that. this woman who made the accusations has zero credibility. Yes. Has or have any of the details. of the story been stood up? Yes. There are significant details that have been that have been, verified as to be true. And the thing that,

the thing I'll say is that this, that, this, this victim who was. she believes 13 when this happened. Of course. No, this was in 1984. She's known her mid 50s. She's at a whole adult life. And she has been represented by a lawyer, Lisa Bloom, who has a very prominent, West Coast torney. who's represented women and various things also came to represent Harvey Weinstein. So, you know, we had support there. But she also, her lawyer has verified that this woman.

received compensation from the Epstein estate, which means that we have seen a state firm that she passed some had credibility. Credibility. There's other key details that have been verified. We obviously would not name this person. She's a victim of sexual abuse. She does not want to be named. She's kept anonymous. But details that. she spoke about to the FBI, including, you know, just the basics of her mother's name.

and where they lived, what school she went to, what time? The time that she went to that school, the names of other people. that she mentions in the course of these interviews, those have all been verified, I should say excellent work by the Post and Courier. Down in South Carolina, the local paper there, they have, verified that. a businessman who appeared to be, one of the people who physically abused her,

she describes him as being associated with Ohio in a very specific way. Public records verified that, the Post and Courier. confirmed he was on a board, which put him in the place that she had said, she also spoke about. going to a Rick James concert, when she was 15, and she met Epstein at it. And this concert absolutely happened. It fitted into the narrative of what she spoke about. So there are whole the details that have been verified and found credible.

The next thing I want to talk about is. this is just breaking as we are, as we're sitting here. That, Richard Can was Epstein's accountant, and he was finally questioned. by the House Oversight Committee, on Wednesday. And he made. he obviously was testifying under oath. And there is no a claim. The Democrats see that he absolutely testified.

under oath that a payout was given to this woman. And this comes from Sue Subramaniam, who represents Virginia, is a up and coming Democrat. I think, somebody that people probably recognize. and he's just put out a statement saying under oath, Richard Can said that the Epstein estate, which he manages, provided. a payout to a woman who has accused Donald Trump, what then happened to this committee? This congressman said is that that's a man's lawyer.

backtracked and said they don't know. I know they've issued a further clarification. Isn't the word saying they're not able to see if it's yes or no. So again, with Epstein, we just peel back layers and layers. But but how could they not know? Because wouldn't they have her name. and they would have the financial transfer, wire transfer or the check? So does this suggest. that Richard Kahn and his lawyer have been somehow gotten that? It's a very good question. It's very hard to work out exactly what's going on because,

the, the, the Democrats, Ro Khanna as well, who has been on. our podcast, has really pushed for transparency on these files, and so has Subramaniam have come out. Both came out after this, after this hearing and said this is what they heard. James Coomer, who is the chairman. of the oversight House Oversight Committee, a Republican, at the next day issued a statement saying this is fake news. This did not happen and we don't know what it is.

We actually don't know what. So because they haven't released the tapes, which would seem, you know, if it was in public, we don't know what had happened. So the Democrats and they're doubling down to see this absolutely happened. But the lawyer is trying to muddy things. And what's the truth here? Well, we know that it is true that this woman was given a payout. Lisa Bloom, her attorney, has it know. how unbelievably. weird and and sinister, I mean, Michael Wolf's point of this.

point of view on this is that he doesn't think that Jeffrey Epstein. and Donald Trump actually knew each other at this stage. So do we have any proof that they knew each other? We don't. And I think this is this is where I think this story. is going to haunt Donald Trump is not because. we can make an adjudication about it not being true, but because there are so many questions that we don't know the answer to. We don't know what the FBI did after the fourth interview was right.

And also, why would they interview her four times exactly? We don't know if they were if they investigated Donald Trump at all. to work out if this claim was in any way possible. And the timeline, it doesn't seem to make sense. We don't we don't know. of any interaction between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein at that time. It seems to have come later in the 1980s. And Michael Wolf is absolutely the authority on this.

He has multiple biographies of Donald Trump. He spoke to Jeffrey Epstein at length time. when they were talking about doing, you know, Jeffrey Epstein's book. You've you speak to Michael Wolff twice, three times a week. You know, he's been completely upfront about this. And it's a very good question. We don't we don't have any reason to think that they were friends in 1984. But what we do not know. is what the FBI did, and we don't know what. the Department of Justice did, and that is why this is going to haunt Donald Trump.

And we do know there are pages missing and we know there are missing pages. And this is not about conspiracy theories. It's about finding out what happened and doing it transparently. I wonder if the woman herself would ever come out and say this. I mean, one of the documentaries. I know we talked about the Milani documentary earlier, one of the documentaries that hasn't yet found. as fulsome, distribution as Melania has is E Jean Carroll's documentary,

and her story is so fascinating. And why she decided finally. to come out as a much older woman and say, this is what happened to me, and then stick by, her story and see it through the courts. And she's awaiting, you know, final decisions on the various payments that she's owed from Donald Trump. I know, Joanna, you've spoken to each in Carol on another edition of the podcast. And I would say to people, you should go back and listen to.

It's an extraordinary interview. And one of the things that. shines through is her sheer courage. And, this this woman who is known in her mid-fifties, has had a really sad and troubled life. And that's one of the things we know, right? That that Epstein and then Glenn Maxwell targeted. young girls who are vulnerable and disappears. This this case has a lot of similarities with that, that,

this this woman subsequently had, criminal charges, drug dependency. She had three marriages. There was domestic violence allegations just like this in Italy for so similar. and also years of prolonged abuse obviously set up really badly. for the rest of your life. And, you know, I think that the white House is the latest on this. And they describe it as baseless accusations. And Caroline Leavitt said the alleged victim. was a sadly disturbed woman who has an extensive criminal history.

and I think something that we have learned from Virginia Giuffre. and from other Epstein victims is that the impact on these. bodies could see these women's lives. The impact on what happened to them as girls, has resonated. through their lives and really sad and tragic ways. And just because someone's been to prison doesn't mean. that it can't be true that they were abused by someone. And I should say that, one of the things about credibility and about the way.

in which these allegations have, you know, been dealt with factually, the public defender who had worked with this woman, said, told the Post and Courier. in South Carolina, that she described her life to him. as having been permanently scarred by her experience with Epstein. And I think that's the thing that shines through. So for her to come forward, I think, would be the main site of courage. Right. And, we know that people who have come forward.

to talk about their life under Epstein had it's been very hard for them, very hard for them. And they're still not seeing justice. I mean, many of them have still not seen what they expected. The Epstein files have been dumped on people with no guide through them. Infuriating for the Epstein victims. And there are over a thousand of them. And this is the other thing, that this was abuse on an industrial scale. That's what's so perplexing about it. And that that, to me, is why this is good.

This story is not going to go away. It's going to haunt Donald Trump because it is. We don't know. We do not know if the story is true. It has been robustly denied by the white House. And we have no reason to say that it is true. But what we do have a reason to do is to say, what are the other. answers, right. What is going on here that we do not know about? And where are the missing pages? Why did I question this woman more times? Yes, four times. Four times. And at the time it was Donald Trump's FBI.

It was during his first presidency. So fascinating story here. Well, we will be staying on it. So I just want to reassure Daily Beast viewers and readers that we will. absolutely be keeping the Epstein files very much within our targets. And we have some fantastic reporters and I'll just say, Beverly. Wigglesworth to the Daily Beast members, thank you for your membership. Says, I think prison is full of abused women. I do not think prison disqualifies any story as untrue. Yeah, absolutely.

Absolutely. Very important point. Yeah. You know, one that the Epstein, a defenders his lawyers. who acted for him before and after his death, this went after. the credibility of the victims sometimes because they had criminal records. So it was definitely a tactic. that the white House has used that comes from the Epstein playbook. So. Well, we have a don't we have a president who's got a criminal record? The president is indeed a felon. Yes.

The president is a felon. Secretary of defense slash war is an alcoholic, former alcoholic. And RFK junior who runs a health. department, is a former heroin addict. All of these people have admitted to these things. So there you go. Well, Happy Friday, people. Happy Friday if you're in Europe, happy Friday to those of you in Australia. Someone Coogan by saying, What is Michael Wolff done now?

I think we would just referring to, to. some of Michael's disagreements with, with various stories that are ongoing. But it's incredibly interesting to talk to you. You always let us know what's going on in the newsroom. I think we should finish with one bit of interesting news. We were just mentioned. We mentioned JD Vance at the top of this. And JD Vance, he hasn't been seeing a lot recently. He has not been saying a lot recently. I think he's strategically keeping his head under the radar. He maybe strategically keeping his head under the radar.

But this week, he went out for dinner. Good for him. Good for him. He went, he took his wife out for dinner. He took some friends out for dinner. For wholesome activity. But there's a very weird, weird twist to this. He went to a restaurant. called Divino, which I think is in Georgetown, I believe, very close to his naval observatory home where he and their children live. That is also a lovely home, because I went there under Biden, and I've been to a couple of Christmas parties there.

Beautiful home. This is the best. Can we just. We just do a show boat? I've got photos of my kids hanging out with Joe Biden in the observatory. It was really fun. Fun party. Well, goals. I don't think we'll be invited there under JD. JD where our invite, our invite. So if you want to catch JD. Apparently he he's a big fan of the vino Italian restaurant around the corner. Very reasonable by the way. He's filet mignon is $40. That's kind of a fair price.

I think it's quite expensive, but. Well, I know, but this is DC, Georgetown vice. He's a vice president. He needs his red meat. He's, he's, you know, hillbilly eats, although his wife is a vegetarian, isn't she? His wife is vegetarian. And what we know that they dined on, nothing good for her. Short rib pappardelle, a tiger tele bolognese. She could have had the focaccia. It's like. What? There were no dishes without meat. It's not that we know meat. She's pregnant, so she is expecting me.

I maybe she maybe she's gone full MAGA. She's got. That would be quite a story. If you can't feel Magnum, she might have gone for maca. Anyway, the reason I highlight this is not because. Not because I. With no reason, by the way, to think that we should fans is no longer vegetarian. Just to be. Just to be fair. But it turns out. that when the vice president comes to comes to dinner, the waitstaff get well, what do you expect them to get, Joanna? Well, I would expect them to get paid. I hope they got paid. And I hope they got a tip. I certainly hope so.

They also got challenge coins. with the seal of the second lady on it, which is a kind of memorable gift, but not instead of being paid. We believe not. Instead of being paid, we believe as an extra. This was an extra. It was an extra. Extra, yes. So these are like commemorative coins that the vice president and the vice press. And then we got some on screen, signed by the signed by fans, but without fans.

His name. And you will recognize. the observatory? Yes. The observatory, their house. I have a little jewelry box with the observatory. On this, I think, which I got as some kind of trinket. Oh, you. When waiting on the most interesting on them. I wasn't waiting on them. I think that I saw possibly in the same story that Mother Pence. Mother Pence coins are now available on eBay. Oh, well, that's a that's good news for the staff of the venal. Yep, yep. So we no hold on to those coins.

Was it almost like a vaccine?

Almost like a vaccine, almost like his own produced vaccine? Okay. And this is not the straw that Harold Hamm uses to find oil. No. Like, who knows? It's all too much. It's all too much. Right. He was getting an honorary British knighthood for his services to the world.
