As he is getting older is inhibitions. Whatever is left of them, he's going to be like an open floodgate. and a pulsing, raw nerve of every one of his emotions. I can use this guy as a means, as a medium to get what I want in Washington. So let's keep him propped up. I'm Sarah. Weiss in for Joanna Coles with the Daily Beast podcast. Our guest today is Anthony Scaramucci, who has worked behind the scenes. in Trump's orbit. We talked about Trump's. erratic behavior on Iran and whether it can get crazier from here.

So just jumping right in here. President Trump extended his cease fire again this week. There's been a lot of talk of him tacos. this morning. He actually did announce that he wanted them. to start firing on ships again in the Strait of Hormuz. But it's been a lot of bluster. So I want to ask you, has he already shown all of his cards. when it comes to negotiating with Iran? Well, I mean, listen, I mean, I think the Iranians, the market believes the Iranians more than Donald Trump, you know, so.

the Iranians are saying there's a fantasy going on, and the Iranians are saying. that the negotiations really haven't started and they're miles. apart on the negotiations. I think the market believes them. But what I find interesting, though, is that the Trump tweeting. at the end of a week, you know, we're in our sixth week of the war. He'll declare that he's solved it. He's more or less ending the war. He's getting a great deal. And then Monday will start and we'll have all of that wave.

of volatility that him and his friends are trading on. So. So to me, I would say that we're nowhere near the conclusion of the war. But Trump is one of the luckiest people that I know, Sarah. And he may have an advantage here in the sense that the Iranians. are running out of money. So unless they're getting outside of the swift banking. system transfers from China, I don't think they're getting them. from Russia right now because Russia is also strained from the Ukraine war.

I think they've got 40, 50, 60 days worth of cash left. And once in a while, Trump on Truth Social. will say the truth 90% of the time he's lying. But he said yesterday something I think is very true. They are running out of money and they have stopped and delayed payments. to security officials and IRGC army members. So. Well, we'll see. He could end up. He's got no strategy, and one of the best memes I've seen on.

the internet is if you have no strategy and have no idea what you're doing, then guess what? Your enemy also doesn't have any idea what you're doing. And so, weirdly, this could play to his advantage if, if if the regime has been sufficiently weakened by the war. You talk about how lucky he has been is. But I'm curious how much of this do you think is just him pretending. he's pretended his way through so many things throughout his entire life? Is this the one place where pretending isn't working for him?

Well, I think it's too early to say. You know, I would say that his instincts. I mean, I know the pitch. They gave him the pitch that this would be a preemptive six day war. Like the 67 six day War. Last year, we had a 12 day war. I understand the patient. The pitch did not go well. They implemented the Mosaic Doctrine and there's still alive. and they've closed the Strait of Hormuz. But I think they're economically weakened. and I think they're militarily basically devastated.

And so now it's a matter of brinksmanship. You know, who's who's going to hold out longer? Can the Iranians hold out longer than the global economy. and the pain that Trump can take, or will they implode before that? And so it's too early to tell. You know, my my guess is he's going to luck out again. If you're asking me, my guess is going to look at it. And it's certainly as an American, I would like the war to end. on favorable terms to the Americans. But but my that's my guess. And so I will say this.

His base not going to love $8. a gallon of gas come July when they're celebrating the 250th. anniversary of America's birth, they're not going to be loving the $8 gas. So he's got a he's got to figure that out soon. I'm curious what your expectations are for energy prices coming down. I mean, the Treasury secretary hinted that it could be $3 again, not until September. Right. Heading into the midterms. Any thoughts on that?

Well, I don't I don't think there. I think you have a structural problem now because remember you can't store the oil. You had to shut down production and guitar Saudi etc.. The oil can't be stored. It'll take 6 to 8 weeks to restart that production. And so you have a global supply chain problem now. And because you have places like Australia, jet fuel is way down in Europe. The stuff is going to be bid up, you know.

And and so so to me I think you're going to have that. that problem going into the midterms. And Trump's approval rating is frankly down. at Jimmy Carter levels, which is totally fine. I mean, you know, he doesn't care because his attitude is I'm not going to be on the ballot. Any Republican that listens to your podcast, I think Trump cares about their survival in the House or Senate. Other than the fact that it will stem some investigations or Stem. and impeachment conviction, he really doesn't care.

And trust me, he will pardon himself and all of his family members. and all of his closest friends right before he leaves office. You know, this is the mess of mess for the American people, because. we were running this place for 250 years on norm standards and guidelines. And now we have a miscreant that wants to flout every one of those. I mean, he's selling pardons, doing all kinds of stuff that he's doing, manipulating markets, seeking protection under the immunity birth,

the spread that the Supreme Court has given him and this wreckage. So someone's going to have to clean it up. I just hope that the next president doesn't use the playbook. the way he's used it. And then we get into this pendulum swinging back and forth. between the parties in terms of the way they inflict harm on each other. Someone's going to have to come in here and reform it, you know what I mean? Yeah. No, I want to ask you because you kind of got into it. But who do you see as those who are profiting off of this war?

You mentioned some of the markets, the volatility, but who are the profiteers here right now in your eyes, when you say. profiteers, you mean private enterprise or you mean political people? What are you about the people behind either the president or who do you see. who are profiting in your mind, or could be profiting off of this war? And the back and forth at the Trump team has had with these negotiations.

and what they've put out publicly versus what we've seen in the markets. So it's such a great question. And I'm I'm not an investigative journalist, so I don't really know the answer. But I would imagine that if you search the people. that are closest to Trump, and you found out who's on Trump's 11 p.m. phone call rotisserie. And so let me just explain that to your viewers and listeners quickly. Trump is living alone in that white House 132 room mansion. with a bunch of servants.

And so he's a lonely guy, and he picks up the phone at around 11:00. at night after he's watched all of his Fox News shows and he starts calling people, he's laying out the next tweet about the markets or the next tweet about, listen, you know, 11 minutes before he makes an announcement, someone shorting. oil stocks, Trump makes an announcement and then they close the position. I mean, you know, we have that forensic detail. The SEC could investigate that. And you know that people inside the SEC have complained about it.

The one woman who was running that process for the SEC resigned. a few weeks back and said, okay, we're not going to investigate this stuff. That's my job. I'm resigning. And so, again, this is flouting norms, flouting the system. And he's been very open about it. He wants to make many, many billions of dollars while he's president. And even if he's broken some laws to do it. He'll pardon himself on the way out. Can't go after him now while he's president. We know that he can't indict him for anything.

He's got full immunity. And so the day before he leaves, here's my pardon. Here's my pardon for my family. And then, you know, obviously, the Democrats could challenge. whether or not a president could pardon himself. And again, from the norms and standards in our society. doesn't seem right that someone would be able to do that. But he's got six votes on the Supreme Court. I think they side with at least five of the six will side with him. I wanted to get your thoughts about how other people around him. have been dealing with these negotiations. Obviously, we have Steve Wycoff and we have Jared Kushner involved,

but he's also been sending in his vice president, JD Vance, to do some of these talks. And I'm curious, do you see JD Vance, perhaps as the fall guy in all of this? He he was brought in later. He's not always a part of the key. negotiating team when it comes to international negotiations. What do you think of his participation in this and his relationship with Trump, based on him being part of the specific negotiations?

Sarah, let me ask you a question. I know it's your podcast, but let me ask you a question. Does Trump hate capital H? Boldface 14 font. playing this Trump hate JD Vance. Yes or no? Honestly, based on some of the things he's having him do, I would say yes. Okay. Based on reporting, you are an honest journalist, Sarah. You are an honest journalist. He hates him, okay? He hates him.

He's like, okay. The shot was by my ear. 72 hours later, I'm picking Vance because Musk and Teal. are writing me a $300 million check to fund this campaign. And I don't care anyway, because my vice president is. I'm just going to discard him like I did pence. So of course I'll pick Vance. I'll pick whatever they want. He picks Vance. He hates Vance. He already starts the progress. Like in Fargo, where the guy's going into the wood chipper. He puts him in the wood chipper right away.

Okay? He he he doesn't let him do much media. Vance goes on Joe Rogan after Trump and Trump goes crazy. Who the hell are you to do that? I'm the guy that goes on Rogan. So they keep him out of the media for a while and then they put him back in. He's got the talking points from Susie Wiles that we're going to pardon J. Sixers that were nonviolent, but we're not going to pardon the J. Sixers that were violent. Trump sees that he's probably in his underwear somewhere.

And he sees that he gets upset at that. So he pardons everybody just to further emasculate Vance. And then we have Bible Gate, Jesus Gate and Pope Gate. And so let's talk about those three things okay. So Vance is supposedly now a Catholic and he's writing a book. that's coming out, which is the corollary to Hillbilly Elegy. And it's coming out in June. So if you think the attack on the Pope had nothing to do with Vance, then you guys are not paying close enough attention.

So I'm going to viciously attack the Pope. You're a Catholic. You're going to have to go on Fox News, and you're going to have to kiss my ass. Okay, so I am your God, not the Pope, not Jesus. And you're going to have to say great things about me, and you're going to have to denounce the Pope. And I quote Vance, the Pope should be very careful. about his comments related to theology. I mean, do you love that? I mean, can I gotta be kidding? So, so so that's number one. And then we got Jesus Gate.

I'm going to show up as Jesus on Orthodox Easter. in an AI generation to upset every person that believes in Jesus. And then last but not least, and for those of you. that are not seeing me or just listening to the podcast, I got two fingers up in the air and they're my middle fingers. And that's Bible Gate. I'm going to start reading Bible verses from the Oval Office. to further make a mockery of JD Vance.

And what say you, Sarah E Wall Weiss? What say you? I think a lot of this has all. been happening as the president has really stepped back publicly. Facing it feels like part of it is a distraction. But the timing, as you said, is very questionable. when it comes to JD Vance, because JD Vance, like you said, has that book coming out, but he also has to respond to all of this. It's a mix to me of, is it just JD Vance though the timing would suggest a staging dance?

Or is it this president spiraling because of so many things not going right? And I want to get your thoughts on what you think. is happening behind closed doors. Do you think it's specifically. that they don't want him out public facing for a reason? Well, I, I think you have to stipulate that. you are seeing every day peak Trump. And what I mean by that he has been in serious mental faculty.

decline over the last 15 months. So if you see him today, that's the best. You're going to see him a month from now. He's going to be worse than he is today. And two months from now, he's going to turn 80 on the 14th of June. and he is in steep decline. So every day you see him, that's going to be the best version of him. you're going to see. It's. not like he's going to be getting better because he's going to be in decline. But I don't think he has to mention I don't think he has frontal.

temporal dementia like you see on Instagram or any of that other stuff. I just think he has age related to Klein, and I think he does have some impulse. control issues which have, frankly, Sarah favored him over the course of his life. Like you said to me a couple of minutes ago. Yes, he seems to luck out on different things. He seems to play things a certain way and he seems to win. Okay. Double triple. Dowling Downing on the lying that seems to win.

Going full crazy on the bullying that seems to win. Living in a fantasy world in terms of what's going on with the negotiation, like with the Iranians, he's done that throughout his life. It does also seem to win. So I don't think he's being managed as much as. everybody else thinks when he's out of the public spotlight. I don't think that that's managed. That could be him taking a break or going to play golf or doing. something like that. I don't think there's anybody. And believe it or not, because of my podcast, I still talk to a.

lot of people in the MAGA world and have been invited to a lot of MAGA. like parties in DC, this upcoming white House Correspondents Dinner, which I'm not attending, by the way, because, you know, I break out at the highs when I go to Washington. But but I have been told that there's nobody controlling him. and there's nobody controlling his media messaging. and there's nobody handling him. And this is a very different administration than Trump one.

And if you tell me you have evidence, otherwise I'd love to hear it. because it would be against everything that I'm hearing from. inside the white House and from the people around him that are on that 11 p.m. phone call that he starts making every single night. It's interesting because I, too am hearing that is not being managed. to the same extent and largely drastically different from the first administration. Is that why you think that the posts have garnered more attention of late?

I'm going to specifically mention the post where he said to use the f word. of talking about Iran, call them bastards, crazy bastards, and went off on a on a tirade on Easter Sunday of all days. Is is this. something where you think. in the past he's had these the ability to. to use some of his outbursts to his benefit. and because now he's not being managed or hasn't been managed in some time,

he's doing the same thing he would have always done. Now we're seeing it not play out the way he wants. to, because Democrats are saying they're more unhinged than usual. These posts. Yeah. You're you're you're seeing you're seeing him. You know, like if you had General Kelly in place, Jared Kushner in place, Gary Cohn in place. You know they'd go to Scavino and say, okay, before that gets posted, could you just run it by me? And out of respect for somebody like a General Kelly,

they would do that and they would say, okay, let's not post that or let's wait a day before we post that, you know, you know, Jared used to have a great line in administration. One. Yeah, that's his mindset in this minute. But at that minutes going to pass. So saying something crazy let's wait till that minute passes. And so. said something to me once, which obviously I thought was very true. I got fired before I could really enact it.

But Mnuchin was like, yeah, don't do everything he wants and don't do everything he says. I know he's the president of United States and you're going to have a compulsion. If he's sitting across from me at the Resolute Desk and he says, Sarah, go do ABC or XYZ. And you're like, okay, I'm serving the president, I'm going to go do those things. But Newton was like, take a pause. Wait 30s wait a minute and think about what he's asking you to do. And oh, by the way, he'll be onto something else. And if it's something batshit crazy, you won't do it and you'll be helping him.

Okay, that's not happening anymore, because everybody understand. that even Susie Wiles has grown so frustrated. about this stuff that she's in Vanity Fair confessional booths. Right? She's with the high priestess of Vanity Fair, confessing that, hey, this shit is going batshit crazy, and I have no control over it, but I'm letting you know that I'm semi normal, so when this shit ends, I'd still like to get a good lobbying job.

outside the white House. And oh, by the way, I'm going to let you take unflattering. pictures of me and my staff because I know you guys hate me. That that is a conversation that we've had many, many times. about that specific article and the social media that was continually. put out from the interviews and the photo shoot afterward. That drew a lot of laughs in so many questions. But I want to ask you call some of it batshit crazy. I mean, do you think it can get crazier than this?

Honestly, you do think it can get crazier than this? Well, yeah, because he's, as he is getting older, his inhibitions, whatever. is left of them, which I would say are not very many, he's going to be like. an open floodgate and a pulsing, raw nerve of every one of his emotions. This is going to be like presidential Tourette syndrome. So anything that he thinks he's going to articulate on social, where he's.

going to say to a journalist or he's going to he's going to say to a friend. and it's on presidential. and he's normalized abnormal behavior. And when somebody says that, we're saying washing him, that's true, because this is the book that you read when you were seven. I read when I was seven. The Emperor has no clothes. We have a very large group of people in Washington. that want to tell people that the emperor has clothes on.

He's unwell. He's mentally unfit for that office. He's unstable. He doesn't have any formal strategy. Everything is a shoot from the hip sort of thing. Some things are working, some things are not working. But the way he's handling himself as president, he should have been removed from office. Imagine a British prime minister. putting out a tweet that he was going to end a civilization. Imagine something like that. You know, opening the F and straight.

That's one thing. But I am going to end your civilization. You know, the threat of a war crime is actually a war crime. People are running around trying to pretend this is normal behavior. But you know how Washington works, as do I. People are like, okay, this is an empty vessel. I can implement my project 2025. I can implement my wholesale changes to the American military. I can give my buddies the defense contracts that they want. I can do I can use this guy.

as a means, as a. medium to get what I want in Washington. So let's keep them propped up. There's been a lot of talk in Washington. and nationally about invoking the 25th amendment. And based on my conversations here. and based on some of the public interviews that we've seen, his cabinet is not going to do this, that there's no one in his cabinet. who's been standing up to him in any way publicly, and in some cases.

privately, to the extent where they would actually move forward. with this plot, despite wishful thinking from. so many Democrats and other critics. And so you mentioned Susie Wiles. I'm curious in terms of. who can grab the wheel in Trump's orbit. It hasn't been members of his current administration.

It's not going to be his cabinet members in my mind, even though they've been asked. about this many times, they won't even answer questions about it. They dodge and shift and him and her about things, but won't address directly 25th amendment questions. And so who is the person in your mind? Is it a family member or anyone else who can grab the wheel at some stage? Or is there no one in this orbit anymore? Because we have seen the president, unlike in his first term, he's living at the white House. You mentioned he's completely alone.

Sometimes we see some family members there on weekends, rarely, usually. for specifically white House events where there are other people around. But you don't have the Trump senior advisor, you don't have. the Jared Kushner senior advisor living in Washington with the president. You have Don Junior and Eric and their families in and out and on weekends. It's largely the president at 79 by himself. So who can step in at this stage in your mind if anyone?

Well, I mean the short answer is no one, but I just want you to go to Kevin Washes Testimony. So let's do a little role play, okay? Mr. Warsh, who won the 2020 election? Well, I'm glad you brought that up. He didn't. He won't answer the question. So he's been told by his handlers, you say, well, you guys certified Joe Biden, right. And so this way, I'm not saying that President. Trump didn't lose the election because election denialism.

is a cornerstone interview anchor for everybody, you know, so when they're there quietly with each other. President, you won the election and there was tremendous election fraud. Although Trump had 63 lawsuits that were dismissed by judges. all over the country because there was no election fraud. This is the election lie. that they have to perpetrate in order to be in Trump's orbit. So again, take a step back and look at the whole situation.

And, you know, and I know this is going to get way, way worse, you know, and John Thune will be held accountable for this. He's Senate majority leader. He could have teamed up with Schumer and a few other guys and gone. to the white House and say, hey, Mr. Batshit, knock it off. Get somebody in charge here. You can't act crazy like this. You can't out send out civilization ending tweets if you don't knock it off. I'm going to figure out a way to create a coalition to remove you from office.

Okay? And that would have shut Trump up because Trump does respond. You know, Trump hates people that kiss his ass, hates him. Okay. He was railing on Ms.. At his own event sort Arabia. He was railing on Tim Cook. yesterday about Tim Cook was kissing his ass. He when he's in those cabinet meetings and they're in that ass kissing festival. Okay. He's not into it. He doesn't like it. I know the guy. He likes people to stand up to him. And those guys won't stand up to him because they think it's going to cost him.

their careers. You look at Cornyn or you look at Crenshaw in Texas, they voted with the guy 99% of the time. 1% of the time they didn't vote for him by by guys and Crenshaw cost. of course, lost the primary. So no, there's nobody there. And this is going to get way, way worse. And then when something super consequential happens, these people are going to be running in and say, oh, he does have no clothes, and we're all going to be looking at and say, well, yeah,

we've known that for eight years, but what do you guys doing? It's it's embarrassing for the country actually. And he's he's really hurt us and he's really hurt our international standing. Even our adversaries are shaking their heads and saying, wow, how could they let one man wreak this type of havoc on a country like that? Yeah. I want to ask you about the fed nominee's confirmation hearing this week. As you mentioned, he would not say that Trump lost the election.

He was very careful to say it was certified for Biden, as you mentioned. But that wasn't the only time he refused to do anything. that would be critical of the president in this hearing. Under oath, he was asked about giving the economy a grade, and he did ha about. giving his own students all A's, which was a very strange. roundabout answer without answering how the economy is doing. He wants to be fed chair. He wouldn't say if he would stand up for Fed Governor Lisa Cook,

even though his predecessor, Jerome Powell, literally went to court with her. and sat there during some of this hearings. So I wanted to ask you, he obviously still said. and was posed the question. about the independence of the fed multiple times by multiple people. And he he was emphatic about the independence of the fed. and the importance of the independent, the fed. But after seeing what he was saying publicly, how confident are you in that? Should he be confirmed? Or do you see this person as a Trump puppet?

Okay, this is where I get myself in trouble, right? I know Kevin, I've known him for 15 years and I'm incredibly impressed with Kevin. And the irony is that Kevin was too hawkish for President Trump. way back in 2017. And so you had Janet Yellen, Jerome Powell and Kevin Warsh were up for the job. And Trump said, and I was there, that Warsh was too hawkish for him. And he didn't want to reappoint Yellen because she was an Obama person.

And anything that Obama did, if you wanted to get President. Trump to do something in the in the first term, you'd say, well, you know, Barack Obama did x, y, z, okay. And this way Trump would then want to do the opposite. And that was the way you got Trump influence to to do something. that you wanted by telling him that Obama did the opposite. See what I'm saying? And so so he appointed Jerome Powell. This is the great irony. He hates battle now because he ends up hating everybody because he hates himself.

But Warsh was too hawkish. And so Warsh is going to be, in my opinion, as a Wall Street. or for decades on Wall Street, a very stable. pair of hands at the fed. after Trump leaves office. and probably after the midterms. Now, worship is not going to tell you this, and he'll deny this under oath in front of the Congress. But I'm sure he has a kabuki handshake. with Trump of 1 or 2 rate cuts as him, as the chairman of the board of governors.

is going to try to force on the other board of governors, you know, in his term. So the couple of meetings from now, if he is approved and we get through. the Tillis thing and the investigation on Chairman Powell gets dropped. and we have a Chairman Warsh, my guess is you get 1 or 2, possibly three rate cuts, even though we've got high inflation as a result of the energy crisis. And then that's it.

And I think that'll be the deal. And you and I will be looking out at a post-Trump world where you're. looking at Kevin Warsh and saying, wow, he is a very safe pair of hands. that had to do the kabuki theater. for Donald Trump to get himself the job. That's my opinion. So in terms of this, though, I mean, he denied. that there was any agreement for rate cuts. But look at me. Does anybody get that job? Look at me. I'm winking with one eye.

But, you know, I didn't say anything. If you say back to the congressman, you certified the election. I didn't say whether the election was legitimate or not. All I said was, well, you certified it. Is that a lot? Look at his testimony. He was a he's a very careful guy. It was very well scripted. And I am certain that he didn't say. Trump didn't turn to him and say, hey, are you going to be my sock puppet?

Because I'm sure that didn't happen. And so when someone says, are you going to be Trump's sock puppet? He can say with his hand. up in the air on the Bible, no, I'm not going to be his sock puppet. Okay. Is there any agreement to lower rates? Well, I know how Trump talks and I know what Kevin heard, and I'm sure there is quote unquote no agreement. But there is a tacit agreement, and I'm sure he's going to cut rates. as soon as he gets the job. I want to get your take before I let you go on the midterms coming up,

we saw what happened in Virginia this week with voters coming out. and rejecting the president's push to basically rig. the election by only allowing Republicans to gerrymander. Now Democrats have gotten involved. They're also gerrymandering. So it could be a total wash in the end specifically related to that. But but I'm just curious, what are your thoughts. on where the midterms are headed if you want to. if you're a gambling man, what would you put your odds on? Well, I think.

that I don't like the gerrymandering, and I submit to everybody listening. The politicians are now picking the voters very blatantly at this point. I know we've done. gerrymandering for 200 years, but it's gotten egregious at this point. So I don't like it. Advantage to the Democrats now because the Republicans started. this latest spat of gerrymandering and the Democrats have finished them off. And so they're likely going to win the House. But I just want to point out to people, because I was going through the in preparation for this podcast,

I was going through the Cook Political Report this morning, and I was looking at latest polling data, and this is through. April 21st. There are 435 congressional districts. According to the Cook Political Report, there are only 34. contestable purplish districts. I just want you to think about how much consequential damage these two jackass. parties have done to our country this cartel, this duopoly.

They have locked up the system. So the Congress has a 14% approval rating, which is slightly less than Kim. IL Young than North Korean dictator. And yet the incumbents have a 95% reelection rate. And so I find it hard to believe that the American people are happy. that only 8% of the congressional districts are in contest for the midterms. I think this is appalling, and we should have.

a constitutional amendment to end the gerrymandering, which would also end the tribalism and the extremism in these parties. But yes, I think the Democrats will win the House. I think it's a toss up on the Senate. But if Trump goes into the gutter here, if he does, his luck does run out on the Iranian war. You have $9 a barrel for gas and you have energy rationing in the countries. We won't have energy rationing because we have enough energy for ourselves. But I'm talking about energy rationing away from the United States,

which will hurt US multinationals, which will hurt the stock market. That'll be very, very bad for Trump coming into the midterms.
