How Katie Lost Vicious Battle with Trump's Women | The Daily Beast Podcast
Inside the white House, Natalie Harp is briefing against Susie Wiles. and she is using the Insider Washington, D.C. bulletin. It has the stories you should know and the gossip that you need to know. And it is where people place strategically stories about their enemies. So this is strategic leaking. Absolutely. So just to remind people, one of Trump's techniques when he's contemplating. something is to call a group of people on his phone, and he seeds ideas of people that he might want to hire or fire. Yes.
And this morning we learned that Natalie Harp printed out. that story and took it to Donald Trump and said, look at this. Look at what they are saying. And I think the phrase might be ballistic incoming. Donald Trump's ballistic temper. Welcome to the Daily Beast podcast. I'm Joanna Coles, I'm here with Hugh Dougherty, and this is a bit of a. top seed turvy podcast today because in truth, we recorded our podcast.
when some dramatic news broke, just as we'd well, just as we put the podcast to bed. So we're giving this a new top. to bring you the news, which you may know by now that Katie Zachariah. is the fastest running press secretary ever in the history of America. She's half an Anthony Scaramucci. She's half a mute. She's created a new unit of time as Zachariah. Anyway, Hugh, this broke just as we'd finished recording our podcast.
And how did it break, exactly? I mean, people who listen through to the end of the podcast will, in fact, hear the run up to it, because we were both. essentially predicting she wasn't going to last. We didn't realize the end was going to come quite as fast as it did. It was incredibly dramatic. Donald Trump came out of the white House to get on Marine One, and he stopped at the group of reporters. and he was asked, what's happening with Katie Zachariah?
And he said, well, I just told her, honestly, do you want to do this? Is this the best thing for you? Maybe you should reconsider. So he dropped Jordan. Bombshell must have been going insane in such a wild week. We've already lost Kimberly Guilfoyle. It's it's like a I don't know, it's a Maga graveyard. So first of all, everybody. has seen the press out near Marine One.
And if you have ever been there in real life, it's almost impossible to hear. You can hardly hear. And the initial sound quality was not great. So we were watching it going. Did he really just say that? And also he started by saying, well, we know that. He said to her. I said to her, honestly, I don't know if this is worth it, but the sound quality initially was so bad we thought he'd said, honey, I don't know if this is worth it. And we know he calls women honey, right? But in any case said honestly, I don't know if this was worth it.
very quickly. As soon as he was off on the helicopter, it was clear. First of all, no sign of Katie Zachariah. And then the white House was privately briefing that. this was a transition for her and that, yes, she was no longer press secretary. Five days, a fraction of a Scaramucci. and even tinier fraction of a Liz Truss for anybody watching in Britain. Oh, yes. The head of. British prime minister who couldn't outlive a supermarket. Letters. Right.
If you have a hair or a vegetable that you've brought home. and wasn't didn't last five days, you can now compare it to Kitty's Acharya. So just to start. So when they say transition, are they finding her something else. in the white House? Or is the assumption. that because she has four children, because she's based in California, because she'd said that she would be moving her whole family over? That actually won't be necessary. It does look like her transition is to the departure lounge at Dulles.
Right? So she's going home. There doesn't appear to be any job on offer. Two things worth saying. She's getting a consolation prize. Oh, that's nice, which is nice. Is it a cardboard is a consolation prize. It is five day well, not even three day stay at the white House, right? That's a good question. And prepare yourself the envy of this. If you know you, you will be envious when I tell you. it is dinner tonight with g d Vance.
I'm speechless. So JD Vance appears to have been. And I'm sorry that JD Vance had to cancel on you. Oh, I know I'm disappointed, JD, next time. But interesting, because JD Vance actually has sort of. been in the background, hasn't he? So is Trump deliberately reaching in and saying, oh, JD, you're going to share some of the blame here. It does look a bit like that because yes, JD had been nowhere. near this, this mess, this car crash. He had been traveling. He'd passed no comment on it, hadn't really been asked about it.
No, there is going to be inevitably we know. there's no going to be a picture of Katy Zachariah and JD Vance. And there are there are pictures of Kitty, Zachariah and of course, images. Everything for Trump, images everything. It is Acharya at the podium, at the lectern, with her, you know, sort of the blond and the hair extensions. There are only a couple of pictures of her and Trump together, and she's in the background as he went to get on Marine One to go to Alaska.
And then there is that sensational picture of her in Marine One. with Donald Trump and with Natalie Harp. Those are the only pictures of them together. So getting more pictures. out there of her with JD Vance, I imagine he thinks, well, slightly dilute things. So interesting. Does look like there's a bit of image making going on here and a bit of yet. dragging JD let's get let's get some bud on your hands. JD so later in the podcast, which we recorded, ironically,
we talk about the build up to this. and there really was an executioner here. in terms of Katie's trajectory. So let's just remind people she goes out and makes her first appearance. at the podium, the famous podium in the white House briefing room. She's, by all accounts, really not very good. Yeah. We don't quite know why she's been chosen. We assume several people turned the job down.
Trump. Michael Wolff insists that Trump probably just had a picture of blond women. who looked like they could appear on Fox News and went, I want her. That's a badass viewport, isn't it? Where they go, oh, yeah, it's it's hard, you know, they're going to rest and it's like, oh, sorry. It's a bit like thinking someone out of an identity parade, isn't it? I'll have it was him. It was her. It was her with the hair extensions, which doesn't narrow it down. when it's a Fox News blond. But she was chosen quickly.
Susie Wiles wasn't part of the decision making process. She doesn't appear to have been vetted at all. I think the final blow after a disappointing. first press conference was when she was asked, well, you pick up the story. where where the press asked Donald Trump where she passed her boss. Yes. And this has been the critical question for her. She had been described by the president himself as an attorney, and she appeared on Fox News and various other conservative outlets. Described as an attorney.
Donald Trump was asked, where was she and attorney then? Because when he was asked that question on Tuesday, everybody's. trying to find out where she naturally, we knew her. She went to law school at Pepperdine. Well, was she actually the attorney that she'd been presented as? Nobody could find any registration, any evidence that she was one? And he turned to us and said, oh, what, what? And she said something of which is now goes down in history. Oh, I it was in China, right within the courts.
If in the course of a few hours it became very clear that this was a very, very weird thing to see. And later that on Tuesday evening, the Wall Street Journal book that she had, in fact filled the bar, filled the California bar. That's not a shameful thing. No, not. quite high, quite a high. failure rate, because rightly, we want the best people representing us well. And in fact, Hillary Clinton, Clinton, which I didn't realize until my Wolf pointed out. Harris. But these are, you know, clearly.
it's not related, straightforwardly related to intellect. There's a lot of prep and a lot of work, and you have to go and sit it and pass it. But she had not and she had not. And this is a more important point. Retaken it. Hillary Clinton retook it. Cameron Harris retook it. Those examples are being spewed out there by Republicans and MAGA today, but they passed it. Do you have K Jr? How many times did he feel it? He passed it. She never went and she never went and tried it again. So this became inside the white House,
increasing source of concern that all the coverage was focusing on. Katie Zachariah and her dodgy legal claims. And of course, what we now know from sources inside the white House. is that Trump had done what he always does. what you and make a wolf have discussed endlessly. He started phoning people and saying, what do you think about Katie? And then by just before. midday on Friday, you'd want to what people think about Katie.
And it wasn't good. The final coup de Graaf was delivered by, of all people, Sean Hannity, Sean Hannity, who is a huge Trump supporter. Absolutely. The the Trump supporter at Fox News. I don't mean the others aren't, but that he is the ultra. and also got slightly odd hair like Trump the. I don't understand his part in the middle, not the middle. It's. Yes, it doesn't quite make sense. Sean, I don't understand what's going on up here.
So she appeared on Sean Hannity show on Thursday night, and this is usually like a softball. He has a Darlene Graham, one of the worst senatorial candidates ever on. And he says, how amazing are you? And, you know, those sort of, tells you your perils of wisdom, right? What's the secret of your success? And he didn't do this at all. On Tuesday night, Sean Hannity and Shaw had said the media mob. is coming after her, her daily question, her qualifications on Thursday night.
Sure. He questioned her about her qualifications. She did not have good answers. She did not present herself confidently. She talked about herself. And I think this is the important thing. And you and make a Wolf have so much material to talk about. On Saturday. He he Trump. The light was off him and it was embarrassing. And he was telling people, what do I want to know what's going on? I want to know what I want to know.
And then Sean Hannity. and then a very brief appearance on Fox and Friends this morning. And again, I show he watches and she was asked, does the president of confidence in you? And she didn't really have a good answer. She said, I, I am standing here and she was in the white House grounds, and I hope to build the confidence of those around me. It also sounds like she didn't have any allies. I mean, I know she'd only gotten the job over the weekend, but when she, gave her interview with Sean Hannity, she basically said, I.
I stepped up here, you know, I wasn't properly briefed or I was briefed very late in the day. She made it sound. as if the white House was chaotic, and she was riding in as a savior. to actually help them out, which is not how one can ever present a job like that. Yeah, exactly. And, one of the, one of the critical things here is that on the way. out the door, our father Thomson, who is down and down in DC. covering this, Michigan gas, I think is a good word for it.
Since I was going to say since Tuesday, but I guess since the weekend. when it started, she started to be named as press secretary. Says that on the. way out the door, she has been telling people. that it was a nasty experience. and she is bruised and yeah, she's blaming other people. A lot of self-pity going on here. Well, if you're going to stand up on the podium. and lie for the president, you need to be fairly tough. Yes.
And the word tough is exactly the word that she used for. her experience, that it was a tough experience for her. And the problem is, yes, you have to be tough. You do not have to be the one having the tough experience, right? Well, Huey will now go back into the podcast. that we recorded earlier, some of this material. In fact, we sort of laid the groundwork for what ended up happening. So it'll give give you a different perspective. And we'll talk a lot about Susie Wiles. Yeah, we barely mentioned in this section, but is was also behind the story.
Absolutely. In fact, just before we go, for those watching on YouTube, we've got a picture up right now. of how Susie Wiles has been taking the news. For those of you listening. She looks pretty happy. If you like the. support of a sports bra, I hate wearing one all day. I know exactly what you mean. Most of them feel great for a workout, but after a few hours, the straps dig. in, the band gets uncomfortable, and you're ready to take it off.

And hopefully it doesn't end with violence. Anyway, we're going to get into it. And I know that as women, we're never supposed to describe catfights. among other women, but it's hard to know how else to describe. what's going on with the women around Donald Trump. We're going to get into the catfights. We're going to get into Katie Zachariah, the new press secretary. We're going to get into Susie Wiles, who didn't know. she was being appointed and may or may not be leaving.
We might touch on Ellen's new flying car, which I got to say, I thought it was pretty damn good. Kristi Noem is back on the scene. Remember her last seen flying around in a luxury jet. at taxpayers expense with her friend Corey Lewandowski, while her husband. was roaring through the family's retirement account on Only Fan. So much to get through in Kimberly Guilfoyle nudes. Come on guys, it's Friday. We are going to take you into the weekend with a smile on your face.
Amid the fall of Rome. We are living in the ruins. We are living in the ruins. Hugh. Excellent. See where to begin. Can we begin, please? With two words. that would never have left my lips when I was editing cosmopolitan magazine. Catfight. Joanna, I am struggling to even know where to begin with this. I do not want to be accused of sexism. But yes, the.
the women who surround Trump are in. I'm not going to use a sexist term in case it gets clipped. They are in a civil war. They're in a feud. It is absolutely vicious. And it involves. not new characters, but a new dimension to 2 to 2 characters. One is the human printer Natalie Harper Sales, who slightly disappeared. for the last couple of weeks. We haven't talked about her. We had not we'd not really had reason to talk about Natalie. She was with Trump everywhere. Obviously.
She was in the helicopter. She was on the plane. She was in Alaska. She was in Montana. She was panting after his golf cart. At one point, she threw herself in the trunk of one of his cars. She's omnipresent, and she is now in a civil war with Susie Wiles. And this is just extraordinary. I know you talked of some of her, some of the developments. when you knew about them yesterday with Michael Wolff on Inside Trump's Head. Amazing episode. Please check it out. But since then we have had even more developments.
And this this is it's incredible. So I'm just going to say we have to get inside the mind of people in DC. Okay? And just before we go any further, for those who don't follow the news. just as myopically as we do, and I think myopia is the right word there. And for people in Australia and England. who watch this podcast and of course, you're in Scotland. I was just going to say who jumped ahead of me. Yes. For anybody in Europe, just or anywhere, actually anywhere. South Africa, we have we have people listening all over the world, actually.
It's thrilling. And thank you for telling us in the comments. When you say where you're from, it's incredibly helpful. We love it. Thank you. Just reminding. people Susie Wiles is the chief of staff to Donald Trump. She's lasted a long time. We remember in his first administration he was roaring through them. I think it's fair to say jettisoning them out of the window. But Susie Wiles has been there since the beginning. of the second administration as his chief of staff.
First female chief of staff, incidentally, and is, by all accounts, supposed to do a good job in terms of keeping the trains running on time. Absolutely. So Susie Wiles, is not a Trumpy figure in a lot of ways. I she's a grandmother. She is a church going Episcopalian. That is not the MAGA evangelical wing. And yeah, she's she's been there since day. one and she's survived breast cancer. She just discussed, having her treatment, having treatment for breast cancer.
So this is she is not from the Trump world or the Trump orbit, but she has survived. and made history, as you see, as the first female. chief of staff and the longest serving Trump chief of staff. But there is no doubt that the wagons are circling around the world. I was good to see the wagons. Maybe it's the hyenas I was going to say. The wagons, I think, suggests that she's being protected. Yes. I just realized that was completely with her allergy. Yes. She might not be protected. It's more like.
I think we're in a wildebeest and hyenas scenario, and Susie Wiles has, One of the things that she never really got involved in is what the policies were. She just kept things happening. We now know, of course, that we're coming up to the midterm elections. and any president who suffers a defeat in the midterms, as Donald. Trump has indicated, he expects, tends to throw the chief of staff. overboard rather manual suffered in the first administration.
Karl Rove, George W Bush and vital are. appendage was summarily got rid of. after similar results for George W Bush and then grew a ponytail. Right. Well yeah I know right. Well that's what happens to you when you've been a chief of staff. But no. Inside the white House, Natalie Harp is briefing against Susie Wiles, and she is using the insider Washington, D.C.,
bulletin. Most people in D.C. every morning, we just think called political playbook email. It gets to you. It gets to your inbox around 6 a.m.. So when you're waking up. or maybe you're already up, in my case, but for most people it's like it's there. And it has the stories you should know and the gossip that you need to know. And it is where people place strategically stories about their enemies.
as. So this is strategic leaking. Absolutely. As you discussed with Michael Wolff. yesterday, this is where this is where the story surfaced that people. that Trump was falling people and saying, what do you think about Susie? So just to remind people, one of Trump's techniques when he's contemplating. something is to call a group of people on his phone, many of whom are like, oh good lord, not again. I can't believe he's calling me. Geez. How long? Am I going to have to be listening to this man? But he calls them, and he seeds ideas. of people that he might want to hire or fire.
Yes, and that's exactly what he's been doing with Susie Wiles in recent days. And we'll come to what the motives are behind in a second. But but playbook, political playbook. went to Donald Trump and asked him for a quote about this. Said, we know you're falling. You know you are fooling around. And we know that you're asking about Susie Wales. And he said, total fake news. Political doesn't care about facts, integrity or honest journalism. It's why I kicked them out of the white House.
Susie Wiles is my loyal and longest, longest serving chief of staff. There is a reason for that. She has been with me since the beginning, is my trusted advisor. and has my complete in all caps confidence. President Donald J. Trump sounds definitive. They printed that on Thursday, and they printed details. of how he was born around and how he had floated new names. and about a replacement chief of staff, including Stephen Miller. Right, including Stephen Miller, which, of course, would be for the Democrats.
I mean, it's a gift because it elevates Stephen Miller in the. national consciousness just when nobody wants to see Stephen Miller. So this story rumbled through D.C. yesterday. It was an electrifying story. And this morning we learned that Natalie Harp printed out. that story and took it to Donald Trump and said, look at this. Look at what they are seeing. And he went, I think the I think the phrase might be ballistic. It was a full on freak out when he read it.
And would there be any interceptors for that ballistic nature of his temper, do you think? Well, we know that we're not able to supply them to. That's a good point. So it's possible for the interceptors are then he needs to put on the ballroom. roof is to prevent people getting out when he gets angry. Up the intercept. Right. Exactly. Incoming. Donald Trump's ballistic temper. And he had a free coat. He blew up a boat, and Susie.
Wiles and her allies were fooling everybody to try to calm the storm. Now, we have never had such direct insight into the Oval Office. and Natalie Harp as this. We always knew that she printed out this crazy, crazy swap from the internet. But this isn't crazy slop. This is very well reported, clearly very well reported journalism. And she printed it out and it's been the whole situation up. And therefore, Susie Wiles is trying to fight back. through her intermediaries and her her whole career.
I'm going to use as a very Scottish expression. You mentioned I was Scottish. I guess nobody, nobody noticed I'm in Scotland. We might say that her her jacket was in the shoe. Neil. Good Lord. What say that one more time. Her jacket is a nail. Sugar nail. What should I mean? A wobbly nail, wobbly. Neil. Wobbly. Now, therefore, on a wobbly now. So the whole thing may fall down. Oh, thing might fall. So where is Susie fighting back, Hugh? Well, we don't direct. We know that Susie's intermediaries have been burning up the phones.
and trying to say Susie's job is secure. There is no doubt that there is no question of over this. And of course, nobody believes that because they know. Trump's been phoning around. One of the intriguing other aspects of this is that Kitty Zachariah, the new press secretary that there is so much to talk. about, was appointed behind Susie's back. Susie Wiles knew nothing about Kitty Zachariah getting this job, and last night, Kitty Zachariah went on Sean Hannity's show.
Sean Hannity is the Trump whisperer, but he is also known to be close to Susie Wiles. They're both in Florida. Sean Hannity is not from Florida, but they're both Florida figures. They have had a close alliance because of his endless. sucking up to Trump and his boosting of Trump on television. And Sean Hannity went after Kitty Zachariah. This is a safe space for MAGA. Sean Hannity on Tuesday had been seeing Kitty.
Zachariah as the victim of the of the elite liberal media mob. Why? How dare they questioned her credentials? She did an interview with Sean Hannity. Guess what he did? He questioned her credentials. So where does it stand at the moment? Do you? I mean, Michael Wolff has always said my co-host on Inside Trump's Head that, Susie Wiles will be out probably after the midterms. As you say, it's not uncommon for presidents when they lose.
to have the chief of staff be a sacrificial lamb here. So let's assume that that might be what Trump is thinking. Do you think Susie wants to stay? Is she fighting a rearguard action against her own reputation, or just is she fighting against Natalie Harp? And is the implication by Natalie printing this out and giving it to Trump? The Natalie Harp is actually trying to keep him aware. of what people are saying, and it's actually a good thing to do that.
Or is she doing it? To say you need to get rid of Susie Wiles? Well, because we know that Susie Wiles. is concerned about Natalie Hart's relationship with the president. She thinks it's unsuitable. She thinks she's too close. Yes, I think that's it. Exactly that in a normal white House telling Donald Trump. what is being out there about him would be normal, right? Barack Obama, George W Bush read what was in the news.
They got summaries of it. They got important items shown to them. But this is this is a pointed weapon. We know that Susie Wells does not appreciate Natalie Harp. We know that Susie Wiles thinks that the ability of Natalie Harp. to present crazy, crazy slop to them is a problem. We know that when people go behind Susie Wiles back, she goes after them. Mark Mullen, for example, tried to get the a new head. around ice to run ice.
I'm fascinated by that story because his only qualifications were that. he was on my way in Mullins security detail, and that before. that, he'd been a highway patrolman. Yes. And and Mark Wayne Mullin wanted to appoint him as head of ice. Right. Susie Wiles was away at her daughter's wedding. And her daughter, in fact, has a role in this new situation as well. What is kind of fascinating is why is Susie Wiles. not just rolling over and saying, yeah, I'll probably be going after the midterms?
Well, there is good reason you might want to polish your legacy. You might want a professorship at the Kennedy School. That's how these things have usually gone down. Ram Manuel wanted to be the mayor of Chicago, and he got his wish. Wish come true. Carl rules, right? You joined boards? Yeah. You get a board seats. That hasn't happened for a lot of these people. If you roll back through the previous Trump chiefs of staff, there's there's quite a. lot that are are you know.
they're not doing that great. Right. Lance Royer is no history. He is not heading ice because because Susie thwarted not wait. What'd Mark Wayne. So just to be clear, Mark Wayne Mullen went to Donald Trump while Susie was at. her daughter's wedding and said, I've got a candidate for you to head ice. I like him very much, used to be in my security detail. And Trump said, sounds great guy, great guy. No one's ever seen anything like it. They say that he's going to be appointed, but.
in fact, Susie Wiles comes back from said daughter's wedding. Yes, and undoes the whole thing. Yes. I'm just going to throw a bit of confusion in here. Guess what Susie Wiles daughter is called? She is, of course, Katie. There are more Katie's in this story than there are trumps. It's it's, there's a lot of Katie's. So Susie's daughter has become a sort of crucial figure in all this. Because Susie's daughter. is making money out of the government and out of government relations,
she is part of a firm which Susie Wiles used to be part of. And they are, you know, they go round the world selling the right the idea of like, oh, you're getting advice from people who were close to Trump. Nice advice about how to deal with the Trump administration and Republicans. She so she has a business. and that business has been controversial. So she's a lobbyist. She's she's I think she's a consultant. She does some communications.
But yeah, I mean, I think in ordinary terms, she's a lobbyist. She's not registered as a, albeit for foreign governments. But in, in terms of like, what does it mean? She sets up meetings, she tells people how to do things. Yeah. Let's and you know, all these people are essentially selling the idea. that they know how the Republican administration works from top to bottom. In recent weeks, there has been a lot of turmoil. inside the Trump administration about people allied with it.
going to a very obscure place for public speaker. Part of say that one more time. I'm probably seeing it wrong. The Republic of Spring, I believe. If you are from that republic and I got it wrong, please go in the comments. It sounds adjacent to Russia, is it? Well, Eastern Europe. It's funny you should say that. Yes, because it is part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. and it is the ethnic Serb enclave, and it is incredibly pro-Russian.
In fact, it has a proprietary there. And this pro-Putin regime has brought over advisors. from the Trump circle and we assume paid them a lot of money. And this has leaked Chris last video, who you will remember we were talking about a few weeks ago, Chris Le Savitar, who sued the Daily Beast and Field and failed. Chris Vita went to Republic Brusca. I'm kind of getting into seeing it now, even if it's wrong. And it was leaked that he was there, and he is supposed to be.
advising midterm Republicans in this really crucial race. Trump was apparently furious that he was there. This leaked. Then it leaked that Katie Wiles, the daughter of Susie Wiles, had been. there as well. And these leaks are clearly directed at undermining confidence in Susie Wiles, because the thing that Trump we all know, the thing that Trump hates, is. when he thinks people are stealing is the word that he uses from him, meaning. they're making money from proximity to Donald Trump and he is not getting it.
So who do we think is leaking this information? Well, it's a good question. There are people who are anti Susie Wiles. There are people who want Susie Wiles job. And there are people who want to cause trouble because causing. trouble inside the Trump administration is sometimes a full time role. Chris has a long list of enemies. Susie Wiles has a long list of enemies. Martin Mullin is probably not a big fan. I don't think Martin Mullin.
for a second leaked this, but you can see that she's upset people. and which she would inevitably do in that job because it's such a powerful job. But in Trump world, you you are the person that you. you have to be active and on the front foot and go for revenge. Remember, there have been endless stories about Corey Lewandowski. Whispering poison about other people for years. So there's there's a cast of you know, it's way. more than clue we're talking about here. This isn't in the Orient Express. It's like murder on a packed New York subway.
But who could it be, right? It could be anybody. And right. The the strategic, the strategic leaking of Katie. Wiles making money, Chris Vita making money, Donald Trump fooling around, Donald Trump being furious. This is building up a fire under Susie Wales. And the problem for Susie Wiles is. if Donald Trump fires her, sure, she can go and make money, but Donald Trump fires her and is angry about her making money.
That's the business. Not in a good position, and it's her daughter's business. It's a family business. I she doesn't want to be out of that family business. That's that's what you want. And MAGA world, you remember that the son in law. also has business before the government. He sells the. Was it called the gas station marijuana or whatever it is. Right. So everybody's in in, you know, everybody's annoying a fire here. They want to make money out of out of proximity to the government. There's nothing illegal about that. But if they don't have any proximity to the government, if they have been shamed.
by Donald Trump, they can't make money, and it doesn't look great. And, yeah, they can't get bored seats and they can't get into that sort of world. of the great and goods that other chiefs of staff used to get into because. people think, well, I don't want to anger Donald. Trump by hiring his the chief of staff he got rid of. Yeah, exactly. And you know, and the great and the good of, you know, the sort of the Harvard and Harvard Kennedy School and I, you know, the Hoover Institution or Institute, I should say,
they don't really want associated with people that appear. kind of a bit grubby and a bit in some, in some cases a bit Trumpy. And actually, you can see that from the list of names that have been floated as the new. Susie Wiles. It's, it's kind of a weird list. You mentioned Stephen Miller who's the architect of the immigration policy. Right. An incredibly bad figure for the Republicans. to put up if they want anybody to make them popular. Other people in the mix build pool. T that's the kind of the short Trumpy mini me.
He was acting head. of national intelligence and was quickly elbowed out of the way by Jay Clayton. And he is an enemy of Susie Wiles. We know that he's one of these go behind the scenes. and get to Trump at Mar a Lago and give him printouts. He's kind of his own mini human printer. Deeply, deeply problematic figure for lots of Republicans. But another one is Kevin McCarthy. Kevin McCarthy was the speaker of the House. That used to be a rocket ship to sitting on boards or to prison. If you were obviously if you were the pedophile Denny Hastert, Denny Hastert.
But, but look at Paul Ryan was the previous. Republican speaker, and he sits on boards. He's on the boards of of the Fox parent company. He goes around the you know, he's a Davos. He's in the D.C. party scene. He goes to the lecture at the Kennedy School. That's that's what it used to be. Kevin McCarthy was Donald Trump speaker. Are unemployed. Am afraid he's not got these big jobs and these big. a boosts out of being a speaker.
So he'd be up for being back to being chief of staff. Also in the list, Jay Clayton, the man filleted by John or soft. When John Ossoff said to him, aren't you humiliated that. you can't say that Donald Trump lost the 2020 election? And it turns out that there is no man most ambitious. than Jay Clayton, who is the director of National Intelligence. National intelligence is all about spycraft and gathering intelligence. But Trump just heard the world's. intelligence know Jay Clayton's in charge of superintelligence, right?
He's in charge of AI. He's in charge of AI. He's basically in charge of getting himself in front of one of those, getting himself in front of a camera and grinning for Trump. He's put his name in, or somebody put his name. Men. Who could that be? Jay Clayton? I mean, but the good news for him would be he'd never have to be in front of John. Also, because chiefs of staff don't get summoned to Congress very often. So it's kind of a safe space for him. But wow. Also, at this point, none of these are women.
And Jay Clayton used to run the Southern District of New York. Yes. I mean, it's I mean, he had the job, I guess, that Rudy Giuliani had. So one one shouldn't be surprised that he would end up doing this. Right. But that was also a job done by people like Preet Bharara. Right. You know, this was a job of incredible prosecutorial independence. And Jake Clayton, frankly used it to get on telly. Okay. Well, Katie Zachariah has been on telly a lot. She has. She had her first press conference this week,
which I think it's fair to say, didn't go as well as she could have hoped. And there was already white House briefing. There was already, off the record briefings. from the white House about how badly people felt she'd done. She struggled to read. It appeared. she had one great nugget of news for people, which was like red meat to that. crowd in the room, which was they've asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign. And then, of course, there was that delicious moment when Donald Trump.
asks her where she took her bar. and she mumbles something about China. We know that she lived in China, and of course she's been rowing back. ever since because it turns out she didn't pass her bar exam. She took it at Pepperdine University, which is where she did her JD. And now the question is, is she a lawyer? Was she over. overstating her qualifications? And she seems obsessed by self-identifying as a lawyer.
I mean, every time. she's on television, the first thing that falls out of her mouth is, as a lawyer, to be able to take information, especially as a. as a lawyer and a former corporate lawyer in China for three years. And, I mean, I am a lawyer and I'm a rigorous researcher, and I spent the better part of 2020 and 2021. researching this because I lost friends and family. Would love to see justice as a lawyer. The procedural steps are absolutely critical.
to ensure that they get this right. So far, she's had more press about herself than I think. Carolyn Levitt had in the entire time that she was there. She was also asked on a podcast. this week who she would like to be played by on SNL. And instead of just saying, oh, I'm sure SNL has no interest in me, she leans right in and says, Scarlett Johansson? I mean, seriously, Katy, you've made the story about you, and the one thing.
Donald Trump doesn't like is when the story becomes about someone else. Caroline Levitt, Machine Gun Lips never made it about herself. For the most part, she may have lied to The Hills. for Donald Trump, but she didn't steal his publicity. Susie Wiles has never done that. Anybody who tries to do that is in big trouble. And this week has been all about Katy Zachariah. Yes. And Katie Zachariah did another interview this morning.
on the usually friendly sure of Fox and Friends. And in fact, even Fox and friends had some questions and we can play the clip. No, Katie. Do you. And it's a tough question. Do you think you still have the confidence of the president? I'm standing here and I was able to travel with him. through all of the midterm convention or, excuse me, the midterm rallies. And I hope to be able to build the trust and confidence of everyone around me.
That's not a great question to be asked in your first week. Not by the friendly, friendly friends or Fox and friends. So are they being set up? We know that Susie Wiles didn't even know about Katie Zachariah, right? So are these people being primed to put. Katie under a microscope in the hopes that she will leave? I mean, she's got four children and she's already said that it's, you know, she must have dinner with them in the evenings.
That's a sacrifice she's not prepared to make. She's got four children. I mean, huge respect that she can do a job like this with four kids under 12. I'm also. curious about what she been doing up until now. Well, that's that's an intriguing question. First of all, just to to. is she is she being set up to being set up? I mean, why would she do these interviews? Why wouldn't she just say, I will come back to you later this week.
I'm getting my head down. Let's get some wins on the board, then go out and start talking about yourself. Right now, she appears to be loving this moment. I mean, it's very hard to know who is advising her here. And she says that she speaks to the president. Who else in the white House has her back? We don't know. She doesn't she doesn't have a depth of experience here. You mentioned Carolyn Levitt. Carolyn Levitt had been in this Trump world for a very long time. She knew who the people were. Kitty Zakaria was on television, and that's basically what she's been doing.
for the last few years. Right. And she also appeared to throw the white House under the bus. by saying that she wasn't prepared, that it was all chaotic, that she'd, you know, only interviewed on the Wednesday I think last week. she'd had to rush back to California on Saturday, rush back to D.C. on Sunday. She ended up doing the briefing, but she wasn't prepared. I mean, there was a sense in which she was saying, hey, this isn't my fault. I turned up and did as best I could, but no one had my back.
No one was helping me here. So I don't think she necessarily understood that's what she was doing. But that's what it sounded like. I had a meeting on Friday, was offered the job, flew home to California. on Saturday, flew back to Washington on Sunday, was asked to start on Monday. Sean, which is Columbus Day. And so it's a federal holiday. and have a press briefing at 930 in the morning on Tuesday. So what I feel is I really stepped up and to the plate to do the press conference.
Sean, with very little prep time, I received briefing materials. in the morning of Tuesday, and I went to deliver all of the great. results that President Trump is delivering for the American people, she says. The she stepped up. I mean, you've just been given the job of white House press secretary. There ain't no stepping up here. You are just thrilled to be in the room. You have done your prep and you answer more questions. And I think she took three minutes of questions, 314 minute briefing.
Yes. And Sean Hannity went after her on that as well. You only took three questions and you took them from conservative leaning outlets. And she even she said, oh, well, the Daily Mail is not really conservative. and it's not friendly to conservatives. And we could debate endlessly the politics of the Daily Mail. It's it's complicated question. It is conservative friendly and it has friendly questions. It asked about Kimberly Guilfoyle and that allowed her to break news.
And it asked about how she how could she do this job as a mother. And that's not a. sexist question in this scenario, because her predecessor, Caroline Levitt. at the left, saying, I need to be with my two young children, Kitty Zachariah has taught the endless labor having four young children, so she got very easy questions from the Daily Mail. She's still complaining about it. Her version of this, I. you know, Katie's remarkable week is. unsympathetic to those who.
have to prepare her to go into into there. That's not building support among those people in the white House. They were our father. Thomson was in that briefing, and she could look straight at the team. that comes out and sits on this, on the seats beside the, the podium. And she said their eyes were in stocks. They looked absolutely gas, aghast. at what was going on with this, this briefing. They couldn't believe it. And then afterwards, people were texting. They were whispering that this was a problem.
And those whispers were coming from right inside the white House. Those texts were coming from right inside the white House. She's not got support clearly from her colleagues. And then she's going and talking about that on national television. Her job is to talk about Trump. Her job is not to talk about herself. She's lured into a trap here by Sean Hannity to talk about herself some more. And as you said, Joanna, one thing Trump hates, and that's somebody taking the limelight. So do we think she will last in this job? She has been very accessible to reporters who want to ask about her resume, right.
Whether she worked for a multi-level marketing firm she did, whether she had. been a bad driver in Los Angeles, she was, and whether she passed the bar. Oh, she said she couldn't hear the question. But these are all about Katie Zachariah. We are talking about Katie Zachariah. And some people might be watching us and saying, you should be talking about the important events of the world. You're right. We should. But that's what's occupying the mind of everybody. inside the white House, where they have the nuclear codes.
And that's why we're talking about this. Right. And she is the mouthpiece to explain what is going on there. And she appears to be a flawed mouth piece, someone who's, you know, claimed that she was a general counsel. I mean, one of the things on her resume, she was general counsel to Rick Grinnell, a company that he has. Well, she's not really qualified to be a general counsel. I certainly saw a clip of her saying that she doesn't offer legal counsel.
She offers legal analysis, and she made a big deal of being involved. in overseeing a huge contracts for global companies. while she was living in China, because her husband was working there for a private equity company. Right. But what was she doing? She was analyzing them for companies, but she wasn't giving any advice. It sounds like she's exaggerated her resume, which is the one thing, but it just sounds like the white House didn't do a proper background. She, in fact, says, oh, she wasn't asked about whether she was an attorney.
or a lawyer because she was going to be the press secretary. Well, sure, the press secretary and I know you talked to make a wolf. about this yesterday. The press secretary being a lawyer is sometimes. sometimes there have been lawyers. who are press secretaries but not requirement of the job. But this is about the truth about her past. She says that she was general counsel to fix California. organization run by Rick Grinnell. This Trump Ultra oil's to at one point was in charge of the Kennedy Center.
It's it's basically election denial that was that she was doing. and she was doing it on national television. by saying that she worked for Fix California. But the problem is, in California, if you say you are the general counsel for, in this case, a nonprofit, and you are not a lawyer, you're not an attorney, you are not a registered member of the California bar. That's actually a criminal offense. It's a minor criminal offense. So you can exaggerate your resume. You know who hasn't said, well, I was in charge of strategic. something or other when they just got a tease in.
But these are actually verifiably false claims. We also talked about China. She on her LinkedIn, which is I mean, is LinkedIn true? But it's not. You don't sign a, you know, declaration, but the only description. that we have from her is that she was an associate. in an international practice team at the. I believe it's pronounced law firm. Big law firm in China absolutely has been inundated with calls.
and indeed his experience former partner there said that they understood. from what she had said and from this that she was basically an intern. The term associate. did not mean that she was registered as a lawyer in China, clearly. But in the United States, when you hear associate on a, you know, a on a law firm, you assume that that is a junior lawyer, but absolutely one who has passed the bar that's, you know, you know, you think, oh, I'm dealing with an associate of the past.
The bar this it was an internship was basically the explanation analysis. What does that mean? You know what? Spreadsheets. It's a meaningless term. But she she was described on television as an attorney, and the president himself called her an attorney. So. Well, he clearly didn't know that she hadn't passed the bar. No, he had no idea. But nobody had asked. So was a failure vetting. And by the way, who would normally be in charge of vetting somebody? Well, Susie Willes, Trump didn't go near Susie Wiles to make this appointment.
So it was, first of all, a weakness on the part of Susie Wiles. that she didn't stop it from happening. But it also shows what happens without Susie Wiles. It's kind of like a deluge. This if take Susie Wiles out of this equation. and put in any of the people that have had their names floated. As I said, Kevin McCarthy are unemployed. Randy Levine, the president of the New York Yankees, couldn't get through the playoffs, but seems to be able to get a job.
Jay Clayton, any of them going to be able to reign in the chaos? Doesn't look like it. Fascinating. Well, I'm surprised Natalie Harp's name wasn't in there, actually. So we will write that down. Email you, and you can print it out and give it to Donald Trump. That Natalie Harp should be the should be the chief of staff. It'll probably happen. You heard it here first. Yeah, we should do that story. Kristi Noem Kristi Noem is back, Christine. But oh my God, why is her name not in her name?
Possibly because she'd bring Corey Lewandowski with her. Yes. And we know that the president wasn't best pleased when it turned out she'd spent. a quarter of $1 billion on an ad campaign, in theory, warning illegal immigrants. not to come here or people that were thinking of coming here. But it was supposed to include her and Donald Trump. But really, it was just her riding around on a horse with Mount Rushmore in the background. And you know, who wouldn't want that sort of themselves,
especially if you've been the governor of South Dakota? What a souvenir. Exactly. However true. I mentioned Kevin McCarthy employed Kristi Noem. Is. British yourself. Johanna, this is a big development. She is no longer a special envoy to the shield of the Americas, the shield of the Americas, which appeared to be invented for her, didn't it? I mean, what even was it? And what is she doing now? I've never heard of somebody being fired from a job that was invented for them. But it's happened to Kristi Noem. And in record time. In record time. Right.
Because it was a record signing her for long, she held it because it didn't exist before. Right? Okay. Good point. Oh, that's the lawyer. And, you know, so I don't even get one. I don't even play one on television. I know she was. We all remember Kristi. No homeland security secretary. Ice Barbie, bimbo fixation. Husband. Oh, she was out. And they gave her this fake job of special envoy to the shield of the Americas. Shield of the American. Sounds like poor patrol.
It might as well have been. It seemed to be a chance for her to go and meet the deputy assistant associate. leaders of South American countries, and maybe Central American ones as well. Which sounds fun. Which wouldn't fun, right? Yeah. Who wouldn't want to do that? I would happily take this role as, But could I be special associate? Special? Yeah. Exactly. Right. Anyway, the Shield of America's initiative allegedly still exists, but Kristi Noem, sorry, is now.
senior advisor to the deputy secretary. of state, Christopher Orlando, senior advisor to the deputy secretary of state. It's a lot of good, especially when you've been the head of your own department. So she's been well and truly, well and truly demoted. Ice is melting, ice Barbie is melting. And she hasn't appeared in the list of names to be a star. She has not. Possibly because, her. strange husband, Brian Norm, is demanding more money in their divorce,
which isn't a mess that Donald Trump would want happening in the West Wing, and also wouldn't want Brian Norm turning up in the West Wing, right? I think he wouldn't. Anyway, that image, another person who's trying to figure out. what to do with the rest of their life, Kimberly Guilfoyle We are just Guilfoyle who is Katie Zachariah announced. We have asked her to resign. We only do keys in the Trump administration. We have talked about Katie, we've talked about another Katie. and we've. talked about Christy, and now we're on to Kimberly.
Strange pattern. It is a strange pattern. It is like Donald Trump's own version of the Kardashians. You know, I'm amazed that he never asked him. Kardashian, who also I think struggled to pass the burden. Kim Kardashian also filled the barracks arm. She's available to be chief of staff. Donald, I was going to say, oh, you know attorney general. Yeah. Tony. General Todd Blanch, that's kind of taken. He's not going to give that up. I think Todd Barnes will hang on to it. But yeah, sure, they could get a whole new season. of the Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
Honestly, they could couldn't they? See are keeping up with the keys. We're keeping up with Kimberly Guilfoyle. We had an interview with Eric Dieters, the man who essentially broke up. broke the story that she was hustling him for $100,000 to pay off her Amex bill. As she was going through the confirmation process in the Senate. He was on fire. And if you haven't watched that interview, I talked to him from his home. state of Kentucky earlier this week, and he's a bit of a riot, actually.
He had lots of details. But he said he was going to sue Kimberly for defaming him and claiming. that the texts that he had sent round to various news organizations, her office had said that they weren't true, that they were, you know, made up. And he's like, no, I'm suing you for defamation. And he well, he also was a lawyer, got struck off. or had his license suspended. And the judge actually, who suspended him. I wrote this down because I loved this so much.
And in fact, I asked him about it and he roared with laughter. Said Desus practice of law is not governed. by constitution, rule of law or procedure. It is anarchy. Anyway, he's not officially a lawyer, but he calls himself the Kentucky Outlaw. Fascinating interview. I really recommend it. I love talking to him and it really gives you insight into how MAGA operates. Oh, absolutely. And my favorite line of all from that interview, please go back and watch it.
He's got Viking blood, he said. That's right, a Viking blood. I had asked him if he was worried about retribution, because this is a group of people that are used to, you know, taking it out on people when when they don't like what's happened. He claims that he's gotten rid. of a problem for the Trumps, which was Kimberly Guilfoyle. And I don't know, he said, yeah, I'm not scared of anybody. I have Viking blood. I do have Viking blood, oddly. So he had that in common. Okay. And I, I very much hoped to attend one of his freedom fests.
If he, if he does another one because it looked like it would be super fun. Anyway, what is Kimberly going to do now she's out at the Hellenic. Republic Embassy? Yes. She is no longer. We've we saw the full Helen of Troy now seen the fall of the ambassador. to the Hellenic Republic. It's, it's it's it's a Greek tragedy. What will Kimberly Guilfoyle do? Nobody knows. And this is obviously animating of worry inside Trump irons.
Because she's got dirt on the Trump. Well, everybody assumes that she has dirt on the Trumps. It seems like if you were, you know, if you were sharing a bed. and a political ideology with Donald Trump Junior for six years, going to go. being at Trump Christmas events, you would assume that she knows things. Now, obviously we do not know we we should say that, through a lawyer, she has denied that she was selling access. She also said that the text messages that Eric produced were generated by AI.
Unfortunately, nobody has been buying that. Because it appears that they were not generated by AI. And of course, it was a prescient line in there which said, stop papering these. Stop texting me. You are going to cost me my ambassadorship. Yes. Very prescient. Yes. So there's. there's a lot to be said about the potential for Kimberly Guilfoyle. I knew that you were voicing a theory about what she should do,
or that you heard a theory about what she should do. Well, this actually came from one of our comments on YouTube. Someone suggested, well, the obvious thing for her to do is to do a Playboy centerfold. And I'll just see, this is actually not going. to be 100% out of character for Kimberly Guilfoyle. Please explain. She very famously paused for a photograph. spread on a rug with her first husband, Gavin Newsom. Not naked, though. Not naked. No, but definitely provocative.
And the former MTV. video jockey Kennedy. is now a Fox contributor, Fox regular, and also a columnist for the Daily Mail. And she has revealed that Kimberly Guilfoyle, in fact, opened the door to her. She went out, she went round to Kimberly's house. They were going to get an Uber to some dinner together. She opened the door to a Kennedy dressed in.
I would say provocative fashion. And I will just read the description. She doesn't. Kennedy. Kennedy describing how Kimberly Guilfoyle opened answered the door to her. She answered the door in a black push up corset and thigh high. stockings and purred. You like what you see? Kimberly Guilfoyle, Fox News. And in fact, it was there was, you know, there was a payout to members of her team.
who said that she had sexually harassed them. Kennedy also says that, she's very predatory, Kimberly, isn't she? She seems very predatory. Yeah. I mean, Eric details described her as a broad, which I thought was a fantastic description. She also, says that that Kimberly would. Sure. Kennedy and other members of the Fox of the team at Fox. Pictures of her. then man who she called Lex Luthor.
So we don't know his real name. But would show his nudes to them. And there's also an incident in which she's a fundraising dinner, and I believe this was in 2020. And she says that she would perform, I believe, a lap down. So maybe even a sex act of somebody is willing to give more money, of course. Michael Wolff described her in a state of partial undress. on Sean Hannity's private plane, right when they were going to Roger Ailes. Yes.
He says that she turned up and went full basic instinct. Yes. And I'm trying not to think too hard about that, but I. Playboy, I don't know. There is certainly a, a tall aspect to the whole Campbell Guilfoyle storyline. Well, Kimberly seems to be able to reinvent herself wherever she goes, so perhaps she'll stay in Europe and reinvent herself there. And others have said that what she's really on the lookout for now.
is some sort of Greek or otherwise European billionaire. who can pay off her credit cards, I guess, but keep up with her spending. I mean, one of the other things that came out about her spending. was that she had a Mercedes G wagon as this incredibly expensive SUV. I think the Kardashians have them. And it was. I think it cost like $250,000, and she needed somebody to pay for that. So Kimberly Guilfoyle, expensive lifestyle, European.
know and, you know, a regular on the European scene. The south of France, the show, the the Paris fashion shows. Yeah. Maybe she'll stay in Europe, which would be a good place for her to see. as far as the Trumps are concerned, because they do not want her back. I wonder who's going to replace her in Greece, too. I mean, one just feels. I mean, it's hard to feel for Marco Rubio, except that he's there for his big moment, the Acropolis behind him. He's there to declare that he will lead America forward. The best is yet to come. It was basically his best is yet to come speech.
And what does he get asked about? Kimberly Guilfoyle and also, as Eric Dieters pointed out, the first thing Kimberly Guilfoyle did. when Marco Rubio arrived was embrace him in an enormous hug. He's the same height, so he was crushed against her, voluptuous. on point, and looked awkward. I thought, he looks awkward. I mean, he he had this little ways, discretion, glazed expression and of course she stole his thunder. Yes, I think there was.
I'm sure there is a Greek myth that that is in some way somewhere close. to, because, the, the whole choreography of her rushing tomorrow. And as you say, he was he could not have been stiffer. It was it was extraordinary. He knew it was going to be on television, as did. she said they were both playing it. Interesting. Who's going to replace her? We haven't heard names, but don't worry. People have been floating their names on Twitter. Go on. A load of Greek Americans, in fact, including somebody was saying, John.
Cats. And who is? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Owns supermarket chain in New York. Is is obviously a friend of Trump. I don't think this is a serious thing. that he would want it, but it's like, oh, send a Greek American. He's not. Central casting is what I would say. Trump loves central casting. He's not central. And he's actually he's not central casting for an American representative. in Greece. Let's put it that way. He does not have the flash, a professor of him, and then people will know what he does not have the horned body of a Greek god,
I think. I think that's very well put. Very well put. It looks like he might write up right out of the sea. with a bunch of grapes, though, and lead you to a. a wind in a very expensive grapes if you go to supermarket chain, by the way. Fair fare. So grim is the supermarket. Anyway, who else has been putting forward their name? A a would of very, very minor MAGA figures, none of whom. I think of any prospect of this, but I just read it as an intriguing point.
that when Trump fires somebody, this is like Kitty Zachariah. that these, you know, Trump didn't didn't fire Karen, but she resigned. But there was a public vacancy. Caroline Leavitt left. There was a void. Kitty Zachariah put herself on television. She got booked on television to go, I want this job, I want this job. And the same thing is happening here. So it's kind of a weird subplot of the Trump years. that when there's a vacancy, people literally first over it in public.
It used to be the most discreet thing of, you know, I like to be ambassador. And you write, you know, they would write large checks and it was all done behind closed doors. And now people with Greek endings. to their surname are tweeting, I could do that job in the Trump sees it. It's absolutely crazy. It's crazy. So of course, back on home territory, Republicans are frantically scrambling. Before the midterms, there was a debate in Alaska.
where we have a very entertaining, problem because there are two candidates called Dan Sullivan. So we have Dan Sullivan, who's been the Republican senator in Alaska. He's been challenged by a Democrat called Mary Patella, but he's also being challenged by another Dan Sullivan, who's put. he's imposed his his initial middle initial. So it's it's very confusing. It's very confusing. But can we play a delicious clip from the debates.
that the current senator had with his challenger, Mary Patella? I have some other question. We weren't supposed to get these questions beforehand, were we? No, sir. Neither one of you got questions before. Okay. Absolutely not. No, that is not prepared to be answered. Thank you. Oh, why would he do that? That's so bad for him. Trump flew out to Alaska this week to help Dan Sullivan. Dan, alas, did not help himself with this.
No, I mean, I. I'm still recovering from the idea of like he says. Wow. Did you get the questions. like, no, it's so obvious. And then killer line from reporter. Yeah, I was just prepared. This is I mean there's two there's two aspects. This right. There's the comedy, the comedy of it. Dan Sullivan by the way. This guy, he went to Harvard.
He's not a Native Alaskan. He's actually from the western suburbs of Cleveland. But he in Trump terms, he should be central casting. He was the attorney general of Alaska. He's held office there. It's it's. he married into an Alaskan Republican dynasty. And there he had on stage what appeared to be a rather elderly looking man. He's not even that old. He was. Again, this is something we've talked about this before. Like these Trump Central casting guys go on stage, they get completely destroyed, and they look like sort of shrunken and old.
He's only 61. You would have said he was 71 in that clip. It's funny. It's also kind of serious because this is. I believe the book was the paranoid thread. or the paranoid strain in American in, in the American imagination, this sort of paranoia, this obsession that the. that there is a port against them is a golden thread that goes through MAGA. And it did look like Dan Sullivan actually believed.
that he was, that the questions had been given out in advance. And many of these debates, you know, that they're not allowed to bring notes. This debate and the candidates kind of set all the rules. between themselves and the moderator. And in this debate they were allowed to bring notes. So Dan Sullivan must have known that you could bring notes. It didn't look like he had many on that on that lectern himself. And he probably thought he could just sort of wing it.
So many, especially white guys, think that they're just going to run. the debate club when they get up there. and they find themselves completely undermined. I do feel seen. Johanna. Well, you it's I feel like what a catch up. What a catch up. And and Dan Sullivan is clearly in trouble because Trump flew the eight hours. it takes to get there and the eight hours to out and Michael both of. Yeah. I just want to do a small note. You said Dan Sullivan.
Yeah. Is it Dan Sullivan? We just saw Dan s Sullivan. Dan S Sullivan is the incumbent senator, John G. Sullivan is the contender. I just want to get that accurate. In case anybody watching in Alaska is wondering which solving for. We don't endorse candidates at the Daily Beast. But I just don't want you mixing up your Sullivan's. No, he's had to put the s in. Yeah, he didn't use it before. He was just middle of him. He said Daniel Sullivan is his middle name.
Fair enough, but he never used it before. He was just Dan Sullivan, Daniel J. Sullivan is his new. Yes. And, just as an amusing aside, another Dan Sullivan is a former mayor up there, a Republican mayor, and he has endorsed Daniel S Sullivan. Very confusing. I didn't think they all had Dan Sullivan's. They should start a Dan Sullivan club. It would be. It would it would be a busy club. It would be a very. Who knew there were so many Dan Sullivan's and Oscar confusing on the ballot there?
It's very confusing on the ballot. But that's democracy and Daniel J. Sullivan, who's challenging him, is a teacher, right? Yes. And also, he's also a Republican. And the, you know, the the Republicans, the paranoid tendency. Paranoid tendency is, in fact, what I should have said. The paranoid tendency among the Republicans. was that he was a Democratic pot. And he went, I usually have not. I'm a Republican. And weirdly, he's kind of like a bit of a creepy doppelganger for the other Dan Sullivan.
They're both from the Midwest. They're both transplants to Alaska. And they're not married to the same woman, aren't they? Luckily not. No, that would be very confusing. But it has a Dan Sullivan throttle going on. Oh, it's, it's all too much. It's it's a very, very tangled, tangled up in Alaska. But at least there's no Katie's involved. And I thought bad timing for them this week with the closing of Six Flags. or you know, so one of the roller coasters. has a very tragic instead of a six five in Georgia. Yeah. Yeah. Kind of an unfortunate visual, right? The first thing I thought of was, oh, goodness, this is a bit like Six Flags. But Elon Musk, who's been in the doghouse obviously since giving so much money. to the Republicans, 300 million for 2020,
for another 300 million for the midterms. But reminded us that this is what he should be doing. He should be inventing things. He shouldn't be meddling in people's politics. We both know from the UK how damaging his interventions have been there. In fact, they've been talking about trying to ban him in some way. And here you suddenly saw why, you know, the man has a super inventive brain. Well, it was certainly I mean, it looks it did look as you see like. or Hot Wheels or I was reminded of Cedar Point in.
