What's something you miss doing before. this happened? Cuz there are some things I miss. I'll. give you one. I miss one. >> Drugs. Excuse me. Drugs. >> Oh, I still do that. Um. >> Drugs in public. >> Drugs in. >> That's [laughter]. That's what I'm That's what I. I miss. >> T. >> It's just like. >> Just rolling up at the at the park. >> a [ __ ] freak at the bar and like or. like making out with someone at the bar. >> Oh, yeah. >> Or. >> I was going to say the movies, but sure. >> Movies. >> [laughter]. >> or movies. >> [music].
>> Hey everyone and welcome back to another. episode of the comment section show. starring me, your fave, who cares about. me. On to the guest. Today we have one. of the most highly requested and one of. the most iconic legends in music right. now, the one and only CHAPPELL ROAN. WOO! WELCOME TO THE SHOW, Miss Chappell. >> Thank you. >> You have been highly, highly requested. >> Wow, really? >> Yeah, and since I run a dictatorship, I. decide who comes. So I said, I already. asked her, next. >> Yep. I had to immediately say yes.
>> Oh my gosh, I'm so honored. >> I'm so glad to be here. >> I'm so happy to have you. You are on a. meteoric rise right now, girl. I'm so. happy for you. >> Thank you. >> How do you feel other than exhausted? >> Uh scared and also. >> [laughter]. >> um. Yeah, I'm just tired and scared. sometimes. Um But it's nice to be able. to like pay my rent and like like pay. for my friends' dinner if if you know. >> Totally. >> never. >> That's like the best part. >> Yeah, it's like okay, yeah, I can come.
to a movie. >> Mhm. >> Like that's I'm like never have had that. you know. >> Yeah. Well, I'm so happy for you. I'm. I've been a fan for you of you for a. very long time. I also have to tell you. I have a whole team of lesbians, in-house lesbians. >> I know. >> Everyone who works with me and for me is. gay. >> I CAN TELL. >> [laughter]. >> YOU YOU PEEPED. She clocked that T. All. of you gay women behind the camera. Uh and we've all been really big fans of. you, so we've been fans of you for a. long time, well before this year, so I'm. so happy and proud of you. But, I would. love to know, I'm very familiar with.
your lore, but I would love if you could. share to with the people just a little. bit of your lore, like how you got into. singing, how you got into drag, >> Ooh. >> more specifically. I'm sure you know, I. have lots of drag queens, I'm collecting. them like Infinity Stones. >> I heard you say that line on Alaska. [ __ ]. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I do. >> I love her. >> I love her. >> to her last night. I like loved it so. much. Um. >> [clears throat]. >> my lore. >> Yeah. I'm sure it's riveting. >> What's so sick is that people are so.
stupid online and they're like, "Industry plant. Industry plant." And. it's like. This is like 10th year. >> [laughter]. >> Like it. >> I was like, you've been doing music for. a long time. >> professionally, like was signed in high. school. >> Yeah. >> Um should be illegal. >> [laughter]. >> That's weird looking back, but like. 10th year and after just years and years. of pushing and pushing and pushing. Um. I'm from like Southern Missouri and like. moved to LA and.
it's just the most cliché story ever. Um. but yeah, 2020 ran out of money, moved back in with my parents, work in the drive-thru, got dropped on my label, broke up with someone I thought I was. going to marry. Man. >> Oh man. >> Um. wasn't going to work out regardless. >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> Um. and then. I just started like. I I just really was like, "I'm going to. do the pop thing.". >> Yeah. >> And I'm just going to go for it and I.
have no money and I really like drag and. like all these like weird Gucci looks, but I can't afford that, so I'm just. going to go to thrift stores and start. thrifting things I think are ridiculous. and that would be that would make my. 10-year-old self really happy. >> Yeah, totally. >> my whole life and career changed when I. did like inner child work and I think. that's why that's like why my career. like sky rocketed because. I started to just like have fun and like. be glittery.
and not take it seriously. >> Yeah, and be more authentic to who you. really are. I think that's what people. latch on to. >> Like. when I I dedicated my project to. honoring my inner child. And like that's. when it started working. >> Love. >> Which is like so affirming that like. you have all the. it all in you. You know what I mean? >> Totally. >> Um. so now I'm here. I like. this year has been the most insane year.
ever. >> Yeah, for you is crazy. >> ever even expected like radio and like. it's just so crazy that like I'm on the. radio. >> Yeah. >> It's crazy. >> Absolutely. >> Um yeah, like opened up for Olivia. Rodrigo for 2 months this year. Started. doing like festivals like Coachella and. like Bonnaroo and all these. >> How was Bonnaroo? I went to Bonnaroo for. the first time last year? >> How hot was it? >> A 2 billion degrees, girl. The way I was. like, this is this heat is sinful. Like.
this heat is if there is a hell, if this. that's what it feels like. >> Yeah, and the people there, TOO. BUT. [laughter]. >> THE PEOPLE THE [ __ ] AT AT Bonnaroo. >> though, they're not like that. >> No, they're not. >> And they're so nice. >> Thrive in the heat and like camp in the. heat. >> They were so I was like I remember. saying too when I was at Bonnaroo 2. years ago, I was like, these are the. nicest festival goers. Like everybody is. so sweet and they're like, "Happy Roo.". >> Yeah, happy Roo. >> that to everyone to everyone and they're. so nice and like sweet. Everyone was. real I was like right in the heart of.
conservative country. >> I know. >> Y'all are crazy. >> People love it though. >> Yeah. >> Bonnaroo was hot. It was 96° at I. was playing at 3:00 so like the. heat of the. Yeah, the sun and I um was in full. latex. So that was hard. >> Are you a sweater? Do you sweat easily? >> In latex, for sure. It's like. >> [laughter]. >> Yeah, your beat stayed nice and firm. though. That's good. >> is. >> You have that down now. >> It's It's so much makeup. It's insane. Yeah.
>> powder like old school drag? >> [ __ ] I think I'm using clown makeup. >> [laughter]. >> Like I think I'm like actually. >> That white, I forget the name of it. >> Like Ben Nye white and then it's like. clown white powder and I'm like. >> [laughter]. >> It's horrible. >> going to ask you, do you do your own uh. drag? >> A lot of the time. >> times you do it yourself. >> um like I just had a makeup artist for. the first time on this this. literally like last month. Um. and before that I've always done my own. makeup cuz I couldn't afford it and I.
knew. I just like watched YouTube and just. worked worked on it and. >> Got really good. >> Yeah, cuz like. >> look, it's a staple look. >> Thank you. >> How many Chappelles do you think you're. going to see on Halloween? Probably a million. >> in Halloween. >> You could probably blend if you went if. you dressed as Chappelle and you just. walked around you Oh, no one would ever. find you. >> I went to Pilates this morning. >> Mhm. >> and the entire class. look it was full. and the instructor was like on the. microphone and she was like "Hello,
welcome. You look just like Chappell. Roan. Do you know who that is?" I was. like. Yeah. [laughter]. >> No, and I [ __ ] hate her. That's what. you should have said. >> one time I. The Well, then okay, I'll finish the. story. Then. >> she was like blabbing about Chappell. Roan, whatever. Um and then at the end she's like, "You. seriously look so much like her. Do you. know who that is? Do you like her music?" And I. >> You should No, she sounds like a [ __ ]. though. >> was just No, I was I was like It's part. of me wants to be like. "What makes you think I would like her?".
Like Or Or like, [laughter] you know, just to like make. >> What are you trying to clock my tea? >> to say? Um but I was like. >> Not her being homophobic in Pilates. [laughter]. >> If anyone's going to be homophobic, it's. me and everyone, like, towards. Chappelle. >> [laughter]. >> It's straight up. >> Um. >> But she didn't believe me when I said, "Well, it is.". Cuz she's like, "Is it okay if I call. you Chappelle for fun?". >> Yeah. >> She's like, "Cuz you look so much like. her." And I was like, "I. I am.". >> Do you think Do you think it was one of. those where they're pretending they. don't think it's you or did she. genuinely think it was.
>> really scared whenever I she started to. believe me. She's like, "No, you're. not.". And I was like, >> That's like Okay, I'm nowhere near you. on the scale of rec being recognized or. being a celebrity. However, whenever fans do that pretending [ __ ]. which she I'm sure she wasn't, but I'm. sure you've had ones that have, like, where they go, like, "You look so. familiar." This just happened to me. I. went to Vegas for work, and there was an. attendant that was like checking key. cards. So, I was just waiting at the. bottom of the elevator with my boyfriend. cuz my I was waiting for my family to. come down, and she was like, "You look. familiar.".
And then I was like, "I don't know, maybe." And then she was She goes, "Drew?" And I go, "Yeah." She goes, "I. knew it. I literally knew it. I. literally knew it." And then she was. just staring at me, and it's quiet, and. then she goes, "You're so much prettier in person.". And then I go, "Thank you. Thank you." And then she goes, "I hope. that didn't sound weird." And then she. turned And then she turned her I was. actually actually sounded rude is what. it was, but no, I got kind of And that's. why she was staring at me for so long. cuz she thinks of me as a fuggo, and.
then when she saw me in real life, she's. like, "That's not a fuggo. That can't be. her." And then she came with She goes, "Oh, it is you! Wow, you're way better. looking in person cuz you're a big fuggo. on the internet.". >> That is. >> That's my most my most complimented. thing is that. You're so much prettier. in person. >> so offensive. >> [laughter]. >> That is too. >> I thought so, Chappelle, but apparently. that's just my thing. >> Yeah. >> [laughter]. >> I was just like like I thought that word. Is that word a happen? I would just be like, "What do you. mean?". >> Yeah, sometimes I'm like, it's What I. just Do I just like photograph horribly?
Like, I don't know. >> No. >> I was like, >> Even when you even when you have no. makeup on and you're just like yelling. at the camera. You still look gorgeous. >> Oh my god. Thank you, Charli XCX. Thank. you, I appreciate that. I think what's. the weirdest encounter you've ever had. like being recognized? >> Um. >> I got some weird ones so I can only. imagine what yours are like. >> I mean, I Jesus. I. >> Other than that lady harassing you today. when she said, "Admit it, you're a. doppelganger.". >> didn't believe me. >> [laughter]. >> She said and I was like, "It is." And.
she's like, "Are you serious? I'm going. to freak out and cry." And I was like, "I'm leaving.". >> [laughter]. >> Must not be that big of a fan cuz she. didn't recognize you. >> No, and then she finally believed me and. asked me for a photo or whatever. Um. and then I got I think the the craziest. one is like. I was just being a freak in Central. Park. >> As you do. >> Like rolling around. >> Can I say. you look like someone that would roll. around in Central Park. >> I did. Oh yeah, I know.
Like I have um I was just doing a. somersault, practicing a somersault. Had done a somersault. I was like, "Oh, I haven't done a. somersault in like 10 12 years.". >> by the way. But yeah, go ahead. >> [laughter]. >> Go ahead. Yeah, I know. >> I was trying to trying to like finish. uh like I was somersaults and like I was. trying to learn how to do like. a cartwheel, but I was only doing like. half of it. And I had grass in my hair, dirt all over on my whole body. And this. person like these like a twink.
and [laughter]. probably more gay people. Um. came up and they're like, I was coming. up from the somersault. So they're like, And they're [laughter] like, "Are you. Charli XCX?" And I was like, "No.". And they were like, "Well, can we get a photo with you?". >> Just in case? >> Yeah, and and the girl was like like did. this and she was like, "It's not her. Don't ask for a photo." And I was like, "It's me.". And. >> [laughter]. >> and I was just like the most. >> like you are you panicking under.
pressure? I feel like you're panicking. >> I'm like there's. and dirt in my hair and on my skin and. like. >> Tarzan. >> Yeah, I like Yeah. Um literally looked like a 2-year-old. cuz that's what I exactly what I was. doing. >> [laughter]. >> And I was like, "Okay, yeah, let's get a. get a pic." It's so. >> I love nothing more than a ticket to my. show. >> so, as I And sometimes I'll just ask. fans to be like, "Can you not tell. anyone that I'm here?". >> Yeah. >> Because like, I don't want this [ __ ] to. be weird. And they're like, "Yeah, yeah, of course. We get it." And so. >> And did they tell anyone?
>> I don't know. I left immediately after. >> Yeah. Yeah, you're like, "Can you not?". And then you're like, "They're probably. going to tell someone I know.". >> Yeah, and then yeah, I'm like, I'm going. to I'm going to go. >> Oh, here's kind of a a deep question. that I just thought of, but like, what's. something you missed doing before this. happened? Cuz there are some things I miss. I'll. give you one. I miss. Miss going to drugs. >> [laughter]. >> Oh, I still do that. >> Drugs in public. >> Drugs. >> That's what That's what I'm That's what. I. I miss. >> See. >> It's just like. >> Just rolling up at the at the park. >> [ __ ] freak at the bar and like or.
like making out with someone at the bar. >> Oh, yeah. >> Or. >> I was going to say the movies, but sure. >> Movies. >> [laughter]. >> or movies, but it's so dark. People, you. know. >> Well, that's why I can't go to the. movies anymore cuz I feel like when I. do, everyone's watching me and not the. movie. Everyone's like this. >> [laughter]. >> Like they're literally if I'm facing. this way, they're watching me like this. The whole [ __ ] movie. The whole. movie. I can't watch movies anymore. >> It's especially in LA. It's probably. like the worst, right? >> Yeah. Yeah, what So, you hate you miss. making out with strangers and doing.
drugs. >> Doing drugs in public. I miss um. frolicking, obviously, cuz now I'm. self-conscious to frolic and I'm. >> You're being perceived while you frolic. Nothing worse. >> like. >> [laughter]. >> I miss. probably just like being in Forever 21. and not being judged. You know what I. mean? >> [laughter]. >> Sometimes I want to go to the H&M and I. don't want to hear it. >> I don't want to [ __ ] hear it.
I'm not going to buy anything. >> I just want to browse. >> looking around. >> I do enjoy uh browsing in those like. shops. Yeah, cuz sometimes you find. stuff where you're like, "Wow.". >> Dude, or thrifting. That's what I miss. I mean, I'm like in disguise most of the. time. Um. but like I miss just like walking around. being like by myself I guess being by. myself is what I miss. >> That's tea. I was just telling someone. that the other day. I like watch. whenever I see creators cuz I have a lot. of friends who are creators that do like. vlog like oh spend the day with me or.
whatever, and I see them going to the. mall and [ __ ] I'm like, "Man, I watch. it like [ __ ] Tiny Tim outside the. restaurant." Like I'm like, "Oh, what it. must be like [laughter] to do that.". Like I can't do that anymore. And I. literally was telling my boyfriend the. other day I'm like, "I miss being. alone." Like I I can't go I can't do. anything alone anymore. And I wish I. could. >> dangerous. >> It is, yeah. Well, especially for you. For me it's like a lot of people calling. me, "You look way uglier on my phone, but you're way better looking in. person." I. >> [laughter]. >> It's not true. But But I I.
feel you. I People have started to be. freaks. >> Yeah, they they get real. Yeah, they follow around. >> like like know where my parents live and. like my sister where's my sister works. like all this weird [ __ ] and I'm just. like. This is the time when I was like a few. years ago. >> Mhm. >> that I said if if. stalker vibes, like family was in. danger, is when I would quit. And like. we're there. >> Same. Yeah. >> We're there. >> Same. >> And so I'm just kind of like. in this battle of like.
I've I've like pumped the brakes on. honestly anything to like make me. more known. >> Yeah. >> It's like kind of a forest fire right. now just like being itself. >> Yeah. >> And like. but I'm not like. I'm not trying to go do a bunch of, you. know, [ __ ]. >> Yeah, it's just kind of like how it's. happening. >> want to do. like. >> Your art and. >> That but just things that. I feel like that are like this like just.
girly time and not like such high like. I I don't I feel like I could be myself. I don't have to be like super. chapo. >> Super chapo. >> Yeah, super chapo. I get that. I mean I. feel like too it's very strange because. it's like you get everything you've ever. wanted in terms of career. >> Cuz you're like this is what I've always. wanted to make money off my art. >> But I I remember seeing once like I. think it was Jennifer Lawrence like when. she kind of disappeared for a while cuz. like you know everybody was obsessed. with her and then they started hating.
her and then she disappeared and then if. she came back she was saying like I love. my job. I love my art. I love like I. never in a million years thought I would. make money off my art and I'm glad that. I can. I just realized I hate everything. about being famous. Like everything that comes with making. money off art is really hard sometimes. And that's when I it gets difficult to. talk about especially for me cuz I'm. just like a [ __ ] on the internet. >> But like. when I'm this is by no means the hardest. job in the world which I've told people. it is not the hardest job in the world. It's hard for reasons that you could. never prepare for no matter how many. jobs you've had.
>> Yeah. >> like it comes with [ __ ] that you can't. even ask anyone how do I deal with this. cuz the only people who know are other. people who are famous. >> doing it. Yeah. >> They're doing the same thing. So that's. why making friends in the communities. easier makes it easier. >> That's like helped me so much. >> Yeah. Or people it's worse too when it's. people who are fans. but they're fans like now as opposed to. people who have like cuz the people who. have loved me for years are very. respectful in a lot of ways. The people. who jump on after the fact are the ones. who are super [ __ ] rude to me.
Sometimes fans can be rude but like it's. unintentional. Like I've had people take. a picture with me cuz they saw other. people taking a picture with me and then. after she goes I don't know who the [ __ ]. that is. I just saw other people taking. a picture. But I was like right behind. her when she said it. So I was like then. why did you like and sometimes they. don't even know my name. Like, >> want to take. >> with you.". >> Yeah, like I did that That wasn't for. me. >> Do you ever say no? Do you say no? >> No, and I'm working on it. And I talked. about it in therapy, actually, cuz I. realized I have no boundaries with fans. in a lot of ways. And I have so many boundaries in a lot.
of other ways. So, I'm like very. confrontational in a lot of ways, but. with people who love you, you don't want. to be rude. But, at the same time, sometimes they're so unintentionally. rude that you're kind of like, "Thank. you.". >> It's rude. >> Thank you. >> It's [ __ ] rude. Imagine Don't yell at me from your car. window. And. what other In what other circumstance. That's harassment. >> get yelled at? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, sometimes they don't even know my. name. So, they'll be like, "You're the. girl, right? The girl The girl that's. like on The girl that's mean to guys. like on the internet?". >> No. >> Then I'm like, "I don't know." Sometimes.
I go They're like, "You look so. familiar." And I know they know who I. am. I'm go, "I don't know, maybe we went. to school together.". She's in her 50s. Maybe we went to. school together. >> [laughter]. >> Wait, were you freshman or high school. senior? >> I've had an older woman I'm And this is. not me dragging her, but she literally. was like in her 50s. And she was like, "Did we go to school together?" Girl, what do you think? Let's all use our brains. >> Like maybe she was a preschool teacher. >> [laughter]. >> Yeah, like like were you my TA when I. was in high school? Maybe. I don't. [ __ ] know. >> [laughter]. >> It's like, "Don't lie to me, girl. Come.
on. Don't make me do that shit." Well, speaking of. like the price of fame, what's the. coolest thing you've been able to do so. far? Like something you never thought you'd. be able to do, but now are able to. Or have done. >> I guess like. people who've been in my position feel. more comfortable talking to me cuz they. can relate on a level. And so like. me and people who I've looked up my to.
in my entire life are like. peers now, which is sick. That's cool. >> Yeah, cuz you never thought. >> But. I would Yeah, I was I just never I I. really expected anything for my career. except like to make me happy. Like I've. been poor and like. >> Yeah. >> So I know. that I can be happy and poor. Um so like. [clears throat] not having money doesn't. scare me. It's really just like. how do I make this like. be sustainable and like.
So I think that like. all these things that have are happening. to me now are just kind of icing on the. cake but. I never thought like. I never thought I could fly first class. Like you know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> Um. I never thought that. I would get like. access to like so much backstage. >> I know. It's crazy. Backstage. >> invitations. That's been cool. Like. Miley invited me.
to like a party and I was like. >> See. >> You don't know that. >> [laughter]. >> I. >> You were my first concert when the Jonas. Brothers were opening for you. >> I'm so jealous. I never got to go to. that one. Were you a big Jonas Brothers. fan? >> No. >> Or were you a Hannah Montana fan? >> Hannah Montana. I didn't know that. >> You technically are Hannah Montana. >> kind of true and I I wish I wish I would. have done Looking back at like if I were. to be able to start this all over, I. don't think it's realistic to do a Daft. Punk thing but I wish I would have. You. know like helmet. >> They got something they they really. figured it out like in that.
>> with Mr. Marshmallow. >> Señor Marshmallow. >> Señor [laughter] Madam. Madam. Marshmallow. >> Um. but I loved that Hannah like you know. had two different personalities cuz it's. my [ __ ] hair that gets me in trouble. all the time. So um I wish I would have. done her but. she. I. My friend thought I went I was fourth. grade. >> Mhm. >> And like when she came out.
I saw my friend start crying and then. like little girls around us started. crying and I was like. I guess I had to cry. >> [laughter]. >> I was like. what. >> You getting into. It's so emotional and like it. like but it it I get now. I didn't understand then why people were. crying. >> Mhm. >> But now I get it. >> Mhm. >> I'm like, oh, because this is the. that was the coolest thing. >> like a spiritual experience for me. >> spiritual.
>> I'm so jealous. I only got to see the. movie. Didn't get to see the concert. Jealous. >> I'm just going to manifest that she. comes back. >> When I wrote a fan fiction, it was based. off that tour. >> What other fan fiction have you written? >> I've only written about the Jonas. Brothers, to be quite honest with you. >> Which one? >> Nick. I was a Nick girl. His diabetes. was a huge moving part of the story, sorry to say. >> It was the whole time. >> Sorry. >> It was the whole time. Even if it's not. >> It was a real plot driver in my. >> Disney. >> fan fiction. >> hammered. >> Yeah. >> us. >> Yeah, I thought he was going to die, too. Of course I did.
>> I was like, no, please don't say it. >> people were really like already. mourning. >> [laughter]. >> Like. >> after you. >> grieving in fifth grade being like. >> I don't know how how long he has. >> ever a fan girl? >> Um. >> Of anyone? Other than Hannah Montana, of course. And now you are Hannah Montana. That's. crazy. >> Lana. I I look. >> That might be the lesbian in you, but. yeah. >> But I think the lesbian in me. is like.
I I I love like. I feel really lesbian. whenever I see a girl [ __ ] shredding. guitar. >> Yeah. >> I feel you. >> Lana. love. >> She shreds. >> She shreds a cig. >> Really? I've never seen her play the. I've seen her smoking cigs and. >> Oh, she shreds the cigarette. She. doesn't shred a. >> Gotcha. >> which love the cigs. But like for some. reason something in me is like. it's like. it's like this. Hold on. I mean, I know.
it's a podcast, but this is what happens. when I see a girl play the guitar. >> [laughter]. >> It's like those little. those bugs in Have you ever seen. Wreck-It Ralph? >> Yes. >> You know when they're like. >> Yes, yes, yes, yes. Yes, [laughter]. yes. >> Whenever that light shoots up, that's. that's another woman playing a guitar. >> Exactly. >> And you're just like moths to a flame. >> Fan girl. I I've never been a fan girl. really, like never been obsessive over.
any until last week. Like my the first. time in my life. I. got fan culture because I saw a video. of Joan Jett when she was like. I don't know, like. I don't know, probably in the '80s, maybe like early mid-'80s. >> In like her prime. >> And I was like. I just watched it. >> Did your eyes roll in the back of your. head? >> It It's almost like they rolled forward. Like [laughter]. It's like they rolled as far. >> They popped out like a cartoon.
>> Yeah. Exactly. Like the guy on like. World Guinness Records, you know, when. he's like, [laughter] "Look how far I. can pop out my eyes." Like that's. exactly what I did. >> roll on the floor like. >> it was like, yeah. Yeah. >> [laughter]. >> Um. And I was like. >> That's crazy. >> I need to. I think I need to look at photos of her. And so I was like looking through I was. like, "Joan Jett. 1980s." And I was like, >> [laughter]. >> "Joan Jett hot." Joan Jett I was like. >> Joan Jett naked. >> Joan Jett naked. >> [laughter].
>> But I just started. >> JOAN JETT FULL NUDE. FULL FRONTAL. >> [laughter]. >> That's what you're Googling? >> Your travel's Google search history. >> And I look. respect to All respects to Miss Jett. Um. >> Peace and love. >> Madam Jett. >> Madam Jett. >> Um. I like got it and I was like, "I think. if I didn't have a job. that she would become my job in life.". >> [laughter]. >> Like Do you know what I mean? >> Just the essence of Joan Jett. >> it would be following. her. shows and like.
>> You caught the fever. >> sometimes like I just for some reason. never done this in my life. save it save some photos of her. >> Just cuz? >> Just I was like I'm going to save them. >> When you're feeling down you go back and. look at them. >> At first I was like I'll save a couple. till I I don't know this woman at all. I. was like. >> [laughter]. >> I'll save a couple. And then I just saved to like saving. more and more and more and like nothing. >> it to your screen saver. >> Nothing nothing like. like freak freakyzoid vibes like but. like I was just like I just so I want to. look at her. >> If you get a little freaky that's okay.
You get a little freakyzoid. >> I I can't be like that with people. Like. I have a really hard time. having crushes on people. >> Me too. >> Cuz I'm just like I I can't really. I just feel so guilty like sexualizing. them. >> Really? Mine's the opposite. Um. >> [laughter]. >> You're like I'm going to [ __ ] you. WHAT'S YOUR NAME? >> MINE IS literally Mine is literally that. I just truly believe that everyone would. fall in love with me if they spent. enough time with me. Like give me like. 10 minutes. >> And it's true. >> So like mine there's no need for a crush.
cuz I could have you if I wanted you. I. just don't. >> You don't. >> So like mine is like that's my tea. >> You don't. yearn. >> No. >> for. someone? >> No. Well, you're in for my man now. >> Totally. >> Yeah, but like pat prior to that no. There's no one really that speaks to my. spirit like that because I just think. I'm like the baddest [ __ ] alive. >> Yeah. >> So I feel like. anyone I'm like when I see like any man. anyone anyone at all like I'm like just. give me like 10 minutes. >> Yeah, exactly. >> was me I'll make them giggle and make.
them blush a little bit and then then. I'm going to have to be like. I'm taken. >> to have to be like get off me. >> I'm so sorry to say. Don't No, thank you Joan Jett. My friend. Chapel told me that she's in love with. you. Sorry, Joan. >> But I think that's a vibe. >> [laughter]. >> I was like I'm not going to look at. these photos and do anything with about. it. But I'm going to. >> going to be weird. >> I'm not going to be weird, but I just I. just want to look at her. >> [laughter]. >> And. >> gaze upon her. >> Yeah, I was just I like to gaze. >> Yeah. We all like to gaze. >> I was so I was just like.
I had to stop myself. Cuz I was like. Kaylee, this is weird. >> [laughter]. >> Like. >> You had to have a moment with yourself. >> I was like telling my friend like "Hee. hee, look what I did. This is so weird.". And she was like. that's not like funny. >> [laughter]. >> She's like you have a whole album. >> like that's um. that's kind of a lot. And I was like. "Yep, delete, delete, delete.". >> Yeah, yeah, I thought so, too. That was. so weird. Sorry. I don't know why I said. that. >> a joke. [laughter]. >> Oh, never heard of a joke. Sorry. We're.
not allowed to laugh anymore. My bad. >> taking like a second away from Joan. Jett. I'm just going to like take it. I'm not going to. >> got fan culture for a sec. >> Yeah, and I was like this is. >> the parasocial. >> dangerous cuz I she's mine. >> Mhm. >> And no one else's. >> Sometimes when I see things I like cuz. sometimes fans will be like "Oh, you. should watch this or you should get into. this." And I'm like I don't have the. time. Cuz once I get into it, I can't stop. myself and I don't have time for that. >> Are you obsessive? >> I can be. Yeah, I think that's why for. like shows and stuff, I watch a lot of.
the same [ __ ] over and over again. Just. cuz especially when I'm working, I've. noticed like when I'm working a lot, I. just need to watch stuff I'm used to. >> Yeah. >> Cuz I can't. >> like comforting. >> Yeah, and I don't have time for new. things. Although I am into House of the. Dragon. Have you watched House of the. Dragon? >> No, but I did watch all of Game of. Thrones. >> I loved Game of Thrones. Hated the last. two seasons, but loved that show. >> We all did. >> They did my girl Danny so wrong. >> I agree. >> They did her so wrong in the end of that. show. >> Agreed. >> But House of the Dragon, I'm all up in. there. But see now it's it's consuming. my every waking thought. This is why I.
can't get into new things. Cuz I'm just. thinking about it all the time. >> Everyone loves. the lesbian looking one. >> [laughter]. >> Sorry. >> Emma D'Arcy. That's. >> Probably. >> Yeah, they yeah. >> All short hair. >> Yes. Yeah, they're non-binary, but they. play Rhaenyra on the show. One of the. main queens. on the show. >> So. >> But they're non-binary in real. >> Okay. The queer-looking one. Like. >> Emma D'Arcy, yeah. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, yeah. >> I get it. >> Yeah. >> I [ __ ] get it. >> When they had that grill on, I said,
"You're crazy.". >> Oh, what was that for? >> out, and for what? >> What was that for? Like a charity What. was that. >> Go home, you little [ __ ] That's what I. was going [laughter] to. Emma D'Arcy, go home. You're slutting yourself out like that. Go home. >> I saw that. I was like, "Damn.". >> [laughter]. >> I might have to get a grill, I guess. Like. >> I know. I was like, "That goes hard.". They look great. What are What are you. into? What kind of shows do you like? >> I Glee. >> Oh, right. We were talking about Glee. You're in your Glee renaissance right. now. >> I watch Glee and SpongeBob.
>> I love SpongeBob. >> That's all I can handle. >> SpongeBob's funny, sorry to say. >> And when I'm feeling like. a boy vibe, I just like. get high and watch Family Guy, which is. the. >> chuckle. >> [ __ ] hole of the earth. >> chuckle. Can I say something to you? That's my favorite thing to do at home. >> Smoke weed and. >> Get smoke weed and watch Family Guy, I'm. not kidding. I'm not kidding. On my [ __ ] life, I. do that every night. >> Come for Literally [laughter]. The internet's going to come for me. Like. >> I'm sorry to say, it is truly one of the.
funniest shows ever written. >> I think it's funny. >> I can't The 2009. and before. Some of the stuff, it's like. >> It's bad, yeah. The most recent seasons. though, like or not like the middle to. the end now. >> Yeah. >> I The way my brain works in Family Guy. bits, like there are literally jokes. that I still regurgitate to this day, and sometimes when people ask me where. that's from, I feel a great deal of. shame. >> be like, "I made it up.". >> It's like, "I don't want to admit where. it's from.". >> Just admit that you made it up.
>> [laughter]. >> I just take credit for it, and I'm like, "Oh, that's from here.". >> Yeah. >> Sorry to say. >> Yeah, no one's going to know. >> with Family Guy. >> It's so bad. >> And when you're high, it's even funnier. It's the funniest show ever written, like can't. >> it with anyone. >> [laughter]. >> Cuz every they would be like. Dude, why are you. >> sometimes I'm like, you guys need to sit. down and watch this episode with me. Like I literally tell my sister, please. watch this episode with me. >> I don't have anyone. >> Sometimes I'll laugh so hard that I have. to pause it cuz I can't hear anything. else. [laughter]. Cuz I'm still laughing.
I'm like, pause it, pause it, pause it, pause it. I was telling a whole joke. like sometimes I'll go That's actually. that reminds me of something from Family. Guy. I say that all the time. >> What is everyone like? >> Yeah, my my inner circle is just used to. it now. Now they just they entertain my. bits. So I'll just go like so this is. what happens and I tell them the. >> Does your boyfriend watch it with you? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> He laughs, too. >> I find boys will watch it with me. >> Yeah, that really speaks to their. spirit, huh? >> But yeah. >> Um just like complete disrespect from.
for every for every marginalized. >> marginalized. >> They're like, oh yeah, I love that. >> of it, love it. >> [laughter]. >> Um but yeah, like. I I do feel ashamed. Yeah. When speaking. to a woman about it. >> I will say there are jokes in there. though that have nothing to do with. oppression that are truly some of the. funniest jokes ever. Like. >> Agreed. >> Like there's one I've I've said for. years and it's like the joke is that he. has cow udders like and then he milks. them in a board meeting and everyone's. drinking and like one of the guys that. gets in his mouth and then he goes, I. don't care, I'm not driving.
>> What? >> That's so [laughter] stupid. Like it's. so funny. And the way anytime I do. anything I go, I don't care, I'm not. driving. I say that all the time. Nobody. gets it. Nobody understands and it's. really not that funny. I don't. [laughter] know what to tell you. I don't know what to tell you. My. [ __ ] brain just laughs. >> at you and be like, okay. >> That's why I said I felt I felt so seen. and validated by you just now. >> Thank god someone else gets it. >> One day one day we can do that together. Get high and watch Family Guy. And I won't talk to you all. >> when we're high? >> Sometimes, depends. Sometimes I think.
I'm funnier when I'm high. >> I I definitely am, too. >> Mhm. >> But I can be around max one person. >> [laughter]. >> Or this is what I mean when I can't This. is what I mean when I can't how I miss. doing drugs in public. >> I used to be such a freak like in the. clubs like and just had no issue. dressing and saying and. >> Yeah. >> like doing whatever I could for. attention and like. And so but now you know, I miss like. being high. and going to.
a club a bar. >> Yeah. It's fine now. >> But now you get two you get two spooky. >> still like dude if someone comes up and. recognizes me. >> And you're high. >> up on them. >> It would be a nightmare. >> Yeah, it's like I'll be like. >> [laughter]. >> Yes, it's me. Hi. Like [laughter] and just like force. myself to be normal. So now I can't do. that unless I'm in like a crazy wig. >> That's that's tea. When I was in New.
York a few months ago, I had a scary. edible experience. So bad to the point. where half my party got sent home before. me and my boyfriend cuz the two of us. were having this scary edible. experience. >> on the Alaska one? Like you couldn't get. on the flight. >> Right. I got recognized in the lounge. And I again I cannot I don't even. remember what I was wearing. I don't. remember and I remember thinking. >> was it? >> I don't know an an ungodly and sinful. amount and if I could I would put a hit. out on this. >> it? Was it like a brownie?
>> It was a little like sour gummy but or. no they were little chocolate balls but. I took two of them or no I took one and. a half. And I the guy said like 12 Oh girl that. was like over 100 milligrams I'm. convinced. I took over 100 which is like. >> You should have just pulled trick. >> Yeah, like I was about to jump out my. hotel room window. I was this close. Cuz. I was thinking I remember my boyfriend. was wearing the most insane outfit too. like he had these bright green cargo. pants on and a cropped black sweater. that was mine and then a bright blue.
hat. >> I would be like who is this lady? >> and a brown [laughter] backpack. He had. this woman following me at the airport. and I go, you got to change, dude. You. look insane. And then he was like, if I. take the pants off, I'm not making it to. the airport. And I was like, okay, cuz. we were both still [ __ ] up. This is. the next morning. This is like 10 hours. later. >> Still Yeah. I don't even want to know what I looked. like walking in that airport. I don't. even want to know what I looked like. >> cares? >> Yeah, it was. But then I went to the. lounge and I was like, I just need to. eat. And then someone came up to me, recognized me and she's talking to me.
And I remember actively thinking, I have. to look like I'm paying attention even. though I wasn't. So I was I was trying. >> like, look at her. >> Yeah, and I was like, look at her but. don't look too hard. And then I was. going, oh wait, now I'm staring. Okay, hold on, I need to look away. Wait, no, now it looks like I'm not paying. attention. >> No, yeah, that's exactly. >> And then I thought I was keeping it. super cool. And then she halfway through. the conversation she goes, are you okay? And then I go, yeah. Yeah? And I started. thinking, was I not okay? And then I. started thinking, what the [ __ ] was I. doing? >> What were you doing?
>> [laughter]. >> And then I was like, hopefully my. boyfriend will be able to tell me cuz. he's at the table as she's talking to. me. And then she goes, okay, well, have a nice night. And I go, yeah, you. too. And then I don't know if she asked. me a question like I have no idea. She. left. I look at my boyfriend's head his. head is flat on the table. >> Oh, no. [laughter]. >> And then I go, hey, did I look bad in. that? And he goes, in what? And I go, forget it. >> Great cuz he's not [laughter] there. either. >> Forget it. Forget it. We got We're two. blind mice right now. We're just going. through life on our own. >> That's crazy. >> I hope I hope she never remembers that.
interaction. I hope she never tells. anybody. >> Oh my [laughter] god. >> I can't even imagine. She probably was. like, she was [ __ ] up cuz now I'm. thinking I was watching her like this. Cuz then she was like, are you okay? And. I was like, yes. Why did I not look okay? >> [laughter]. >> So I get what you mean. It's a. horrifying experience being under the. influence and in public. That's probably. a good thing though. >> I know. >> That they're tailoring. But I'm glad we. have similar hobbies. You and I do the same things in our. downtime. >> dude stuff. It's so lame. >> That's probably the straightest thing.
about me is watching Family Guy. >> Same. >> Yeah. And I And other than having a male. partner. >> make fun of crazy gay stuff AND I'M. [laughter] LIKE. >> [gasps]. >> YOU'RE GIGGLING AT HOME. YOU'RE CACKLING. AT HOME. WELL, I want to ask too. what would you say is the most rewarding. part of like now having a platform? Cuz. you represent so many. different groups as well, but you also. platform drag a lot. I want to ask you. more about drag. Oh wait, before I get. to that, who's your favorite drag queen? Do you have a fav?
>> Um. >> Or maybe a top three? >> For the controversial ones, Willam. >> OT. >> and Detox. >> Mhm. >> Um for the nice ones, Kim Chi. >> Oh love. >> Um I think my favorite Sasha Colby. Like. overall number one. Um. I love Bob. Um and I love. [ __ ] it. I like Derrick Barry. >> [laughter]. >> Slash slash Britney. I. Um He does a great job at Britney.
>> Yeah. >> Um but. I mean a Trixie so. [ __ ] awesome. >> Yeah. She's my op. >> Yeah. >> I'll fist fight Trixie. Me and Trixie. are going to celebrity boxing match. >> Oh yeah. >> I love her. >> Wait, why? >> Well, she and I are both Virgos, but we. I just did her pod like. a couple weeks ago. Love her, but there's like a running bit. that she never texts me back, which is. like true. >> Do you text people back? >> No. And as. And as a Virgo like I feel like I should. do it to others and it should not be.
done to me. >> Right. Revenge. >> Yeah, obviously. But I remember when I. was on her pod she's like, "Yeah, Britney Broski she told me that uh. you're always texting me and I never. text you back and I felt bad." And I go, "Well, hold on. Let's be clear. I wasn't. texting you to hang and you were just. ignoring me. That's not what was. happening. I text you happy birthday and. you ignored me one time." And then she. And then she was like she DM'd me on. Instagram and was like the way that you. haven't text me so you're missing out on. all my thoughts and I was like I have. text you [ __ ] like what the [ __ ] and. then I text her again and I said this is.
Drew Affolter. cuz I don't know if this [ __ ] has. multiple Drew's in her phone and then. she goes Oh my god I did have your. number and then I go okay I said yeah. what what did you want to tell me and. she didn't text me back and. >> [laughter]. >> And then I text her again I said [ __ ]. if you don't tell me I'm literally going. to send a SWAT team to your [ __ ]. house and then she said that I'm so. beautiful and sent me a picture of. herself and then I blocked her. >> [laughter]. >> Would you ever SWAT someone's house? Um I don't know are you asking? Would. you like me to SWAT you?
>> Kind of. >> [laughter]. >> Just to get the experience. >> Just to be like. >> Maybe an arch nemesis. >> Yeah cuz you remember it was like a a. trend. >> It was. People were trying to do that to me but. on on not on some funny [ __ ] on some. real [ __ ] but like. >> trying to SWAT you for real? >> Yeah men who hate me oh yeah. >> They were trying to SWAT you? >> Yeah isn't that crazy? I'm like you guys. are so afraid of me I was just telling. someone when I make fun of men so. severely like I make fun of them I made. fun of someone's hairline on Twitter the. other day And he was like oh yeah so.
balding and he was like I was like he. took a picture of his forehead again and. he has one of those fringes that like. hangs down and I go lift up that little. bang I'm trying to see something. And then and then he. >> what that bang do? >> What that bang lift up that little bang. girl I want to see what's underneath and. he literally pulled his car over and. like lifted up his bang and like took a. picture and it looked awful but I was. laughing cuz I'm like the way you guys. are you guys will do anything I say. >> Yeah [laughter] You guys are so They're. so submissive. >> submissive to me they're so breedable. And submissive. >> [laughter].
>> [ __ ] throw a bomb squad on you to. like try to SWAT your house. >> I'm like so on my foot you do whatever I. say. >> [laughter]. >> Exactly. >> Do you get a lot of hate? >> I don't read the comments anymore but if. I if I do what I do in my head I'm like. that's a bot. >> That's that's actually a really good. >> that's to look at it. >> That's a bot, obviously. And then if. someone like makes a video, I'm like, "That's AI.". >> [laughter]. >> Like I am like, "That's AI, obviously.". >> I think that's wonderful. >> Like cuz it's how they're behaving is so. delusional, so I'm going to do it back. I'm going to match it.
>> Wow, you're so genius. >> just like, "You want to say that [ __ ]. You're not real.". >> Well, that's obviously AI. That is. genius. >> Nice one. Deep fake. [laughter]. Like almost had me. >> You're not going to get me. I almost. thought that was a real person. >> I used to fight in the comments. Love. fighting. I don't fight anymore. Just simply. because I'm like, "I'm not going to let. it I don't have to defend myself and. like prove to you that. like. whatever. Like I I'm just like I would. be online all day long if I had to.
>> I feel that. >> You know? >> You're telling me, girl. >> So I mean, but I. I just if I get hate I'm like. this is the point of art. >> Yeah. It's to elicit a response. >> What hurts my feelings is when people. like come for. my character. >> I feel that. Same. >> And I'm just like. >> And it comes from people you love or. support. >> Yeah, pure people that. But but then again, I'm like the people. who I who are judging my character, I've.
never met them. >> Mhm. See? >> I don't know them. >> Yeah, and they don't know you either. >> at all. Like it's just like I'm some I. wish people would look at me as like, "That's a random person." Like you. happen to like know the. art that they make, but like that's a. random [ __ ]. >> Yeah, for real. >> Like what they see is not everything. about who you are. Like people are so. much more multifaceted than one. >> I know. >> So they think that about me, too. Like. they think I'm the meanest [ __ ] alive. Like sometimes people will ask me like, "Are you just like this all the time?". I'm like, "No, cuz I don't hang out with.
people I hate.". >> No. Yeah. >> I don't spend time with men I [ __ ]. hate. Like I don't do that. So no, I'm. not like this all the time. >> Right. >> Or they'll like it's it's a very. slippery it's very frustrating when. people like they're like, "Oh, well. clearly she's a bad person." How would. you know that? >> Why are you even. like. Don't Don't people feel dumb commenting. things? >> I know. Hate like. >> No, just. >> Nonsense go hate. Or it's like, "I. really didn't like her, but I didn't. have a valid reason, and now I do. Thanks for telling me." And it's like. something made up. I've had that about.
me, too. Like people will just make. People Men have created Talk about fan. fiction. Men have written the craziest. fan fiction about me. Like of who they. think I was and who who I had to be in. high school in order I'm like, "Aren't. you 15?". >> Aren't you Also, like. >> in high school 10 years ago. Like what. the [ __ ] You weren't even alive. What. the [ __ ] girl? [laughter] You don't. know anything about me from high school. >> I know. >> And I was like, "And I was just as. annoying and funny in high school, sorry. to say.". >> Someone Someone one time. >> [laughter]. >> Someone made a video about me. This is.
like years ago. And like I wasn't. nearly as successful. Um so I was like. pretty much watching anything that I was. tagged in. >> Mhm. >> And it was this girl. and she was like. "I know Chapel Roan." She's like She's. like. "I'm not I hate Pink Pony Club. I hate. that [ __ ] But like regardless, I know. she made fun She was the girl in high. school that got whatever she wanted, and. she made fun of the kids in special ed.
and got away with it.". >> What? >> What? >> And I was like. >> What a bizarre thing to say. >> Sounds like. you made people. >> Oh, people are projecting, right? >> just like "What do you um First of all, what does that mean?". >> Yeah. [laughter]. >> Like. >> That's a very specific thing to say. >> I I just didn't know what it meant, and. so. >> just mean. >> Yeah, and I just like commented. I was. like, "Ha ha ha ha ha. You're so camp.". Cuz like [laughter]. But now I don't like, you know, >> Can't do it as much anymore. >> That made me like. That made me like upset for real, cuz I. was like "Do I give off that vibe?".
>> Yeah. >> like even if I gave off the nicest vibe. >> Someone would Someone is. >> going to be like. >> Yeah. >> She'll bully people if they have like. >> I bet when people when the cameras. aren't off she's not like that. Well, yeah, probably. I mean, probably a. little different, yeah. >> I think about it like. whenever I'm on tour or like. whatever like performing in an interview. like I'm clocked in to customer service. mode. >> Yeah, same. >> Like when I'm.
like. not on like literally not. doing somersaults? >> Yeah, yeah. >> I'm not clocked in. I'm not at work. right now. >> Yeah. >> So. if you think that I'm rude [ __ ]. are you going to get mad at your barista. who you see at the at the mall? And you're like, "Why aren't you. >> I don't get it. You're not acting You're. not acting the way that I saw you act on. the stage at Gov Ball. >> you ask about my day anymore? Why don't. you ask what I'm doing anymore? It's.
like, "Bitch, I'm not. I'm not at work. >> Yeah, they feel very entitled to you as. like a person once they feel like they. know you very well, which is upsetting. for a lot of reasons. >> I'm just like. >> I get what you mean though cuz sometimes. I I'm so like. aware of like fan interaction. So that you're like so everyone gets a. good experience cuz you're like I don't. want anyone to have a bad experience. meeting me. And the ones who say that. they're like, "Where did you meet them?". Like one time someone wrote a comment. like that about me saying at Coachella I.
was walking around like I owned the. place with my posse. And I was like, "Posse? What the [ __ ] [laughter] you. mean? You mean Brittany Broski and then. my sister and my boyfriend? Like what. the [ __ ] are you talking about?". >> Like she owned the place. >> What? And I said, "When did you see me. there?" Like I don't And so you didn't. talk to me. You saw me from a distance. and then just assumed. >> Assumed. Yeah, like I was okay. >> That's what like freaks me out. I'm like. >> You got yelled at. >> like maybe sketched out that you're. assuming stuff. Yeah. Like. you think you.
because you assume it it's. true. >> Yeah, and. >> you can't like And because you're a. celebrity, they can't like you can't. prove them wrong Like, "Oh, then prove. me wrong." What the [ __ ] Like, it's so. it's so weirdly meta. It feels very. Black Mirror in that sense cuz you're. like, "I'm fighting against Technically. speaking, we are fighting against bots. because we don't know them and we don't. A lot of times you don't have faces to. their profiles or whatever. >> So, we're just fighting ghosts, really. Which I'm like, "I'm not going to sit. and prove I'm a good person to millions. of people on the internet." I feel like. >> No. >> that shouldn't be also, they only do.
that to women. So, >> They do. >> do that to men. >> And you know what? Especially in the the. being a gay girl, >> Yeah. >> you're never an ally enough, no matter. what. >> Yeah, it's just always something. Always. something you could be doing better. >> Which I'm homophobic. Let this be Let. this be clear. [laughter]. Let it be known. >> I feel like. >> I I'm I love making fun of myself in a. homophobic way. But like, I'll [ __ ] ride for trans right. You. know what I mean? Like, I will. I like.
>> Well, you don't have to talk about it. cuz you are about it. That's how I feel. as well. >> That's the other thing. It's like. >> You're like, "Being an ally is so much. more than just like. >> Posting on your story.". >> Yeah, occasionally. Every now and then. >> like, "No, I. >> actually walk in that [ __ ] Like, I've. lived that shit.". >> It's your actions. Like, I'm not going. to try to like. That's That's why. I think about. people who. like just people online who accuse. of, you know, people in pop culture of not caring. about a like something that they really.
care about. It's like, they probably do and aren't like just. disclosing that they're donating to the. cause because that looks performative. >> Yeah, totally. >> Or like, >> Well, you would be accused of being. performative and that's why. >> Even if you did. >> if you did. So, I've I've had to talk. about that, too, cuz I've talked about. even in my culture, like in Samoan. culture, uh philanthropy, like we we our culture. rooted in service. So, giving with no. expectation of anything in return. That. includes kudos, like talking about it. So, like I don't talk about a lot of the. philanthropy I do because. [clears throat] that's not the point. The whole point is like to do it cuz you.
want to, not because you want to get. praised for it. So, also the way you exist and the way the. the things you do now is. literally, like, that's actively. standing up for and representing and. pushing for. You know what I'm saying? Pushing things that you care about, which is important. That's why the. people that know you and love you know. that you're about it, so you don't have. to That's why it's like it's too much. talking about it. >> don't have to prove. >> That's why I said the [ __ ] Paul. brothers gave one homeless guy a haircut. and recorded the [ __ ] for millions of. views, and now I have to document every.
good thing I do. [laughter] Every. [ __ ] positive thing I do, I have to. [ __ ] film it and post it. >> that. >> that I'm a good person. That's why I was. like, "I'm a good person. Look at me. Look what I did." That's it negates the. point. >> I know, but it sometimes it feels like. you I want to do that because like I. feel so. sad that. >> people don't think otherwise. >> think otherwise cuz I that is like. a deep fear of mine. Like, probably. probably the my greatest fear is trying. my best to be a good person and one, no.
one believing me, or two, feeling like. I'm failing. >> Yeah. >> Like, I think that's my deepest fear. >> That's the only thing that really like. makes me like genuinely very upset about. having a platform or being visible. >> Yeah. >> Because then it feels like it's never. enough. Like, no matter what you do, it's never enough, which is exhausting. Because you have to work at the same So, you're entertaining at the same time you. have to do that. >> I know. >> like it balancing it it's gets hard. >> It's. not like really any other job. >> No. >> Because you are like the jack of all.
trades. >> Yeah, I have to be. >> Like, you are creating literally like. when people are bored, they go to you. >> [laughter]. >> So, not only. like. or like music, you know? Um. And. yeah, whatever. >> It it gets very upsetting, but I think. what's beautiful about what it is you do. is that you've been the same and been. consistent for a very long time in your. activism and in platforming what you. care about. Even when you were on The. Tonight Show and you gave Sasha Colby. credit for.
uh my your favorite artist's favorite. artist. Like that in and of itself, that's that's like platforming and. standing up for marginalized groups cuz. Sasha's not only drag, she's also trans. And she's indigenous on top of that. So, like it's like a one, two, three. Like. that's [ __ ] that's like about it. You're. about it. You don't have to talk as much. about it cuz you are about it. So, I. want to give you kudos. I'll give them. to you. >> Thank you. >> Get behind me, Chappell. I'll fight. whoever's mean to you. >> [ __ ] I give you [laughter] I I give. you kudos to like. you really like are not afraid. And and.
that is so inspiring to be like. >> Thank you. >> to like stand up for feminism. So, kudos. to you. >> Thank you. I appreciate that. So, to. wrap us, right? I'd love to know what's your best. piece of advice for anyone who maybe. wants to get into show business and. maybe sits in a marginalized group. currently and maybe is a little afraid. of that. Cuz I one thing I did see I've. seen a lot of people who love you dearly. talk about how like the way that you. are, the way you platform drag, the way.
you platform gay people in general, trans people in general, like it. inspires them and makes them feel safer, like they can also be in the industry, too. >> Mhm. >> So, that's very powerful and that's. something that they love about you the. most. So, what would you say is your. best piece of advice for them if they're. feeling a little afraid? >> Um. in general, I would say. the best piece of advice I got was like. you have to just do it yourself. Like you can't wait for like maybe I'll.
get like noticed or. you know, maybe I I need a manager, I. need a label. It's like you don't. Just. do it yourself and it's going to you're. going to have to be cringey. It just you. just are. >> Embrace it. >> It's going to have It feels horrible, but you have to do it. Embrace the. cringe. >> Every single artist. has. been cringey. >> Yeah. >> Either. or is still is, unfortunately. >> have to. >> Um but. the way to do it is yourself at the.
beginning and it's the hardest at the. beginning. Cuz not only do you not have. money, but you're also. blindly trying to figure it out, but. luckily like. and and that has to, you know, going in. like the queer community. dude. like that is like the queer community is. a built-in. audience and like a way of like. >> Totally. >> they [ __ ] ride for gay people. Like. and I I I do too. It's like the second.
that I hear someone is gay or like I'm. like. whatever you do, you support it. Like, [laughter] you know. >> I'm in there. I'm streaming. >> so I think that I think that. some people it doesn't being queer, you. never have to say it. You know, you. don't have to I know um I talk about it. a lot, but. it never has to be at the forefront if. you don't want it to. >> Yeah. >> And like. people who are scared I it is scary. I'm. scared. >> Mhm.
>> I get it. I. this is really really hard and you don't. have money like for. like 7 to 10 years. >> time. >> long time. But how I did it is like. take literally millions of baby steps. And that's something about the career is. like. it is rarely giant leaps. It is. mostly baby baby baby steps. Um. all you have to do is take one baby step. a day. >> Period. >> You'll get there.
>> Look at you. >> Um. so I would say that. And I use I still. use my friends to like do everything. >> Yeah, same actually. >> Like. >> source in-house. >> Exactly. That's what I mean by like. doing it yourself. >> Yeah, with your community. >> You have to source it. If you want it to. be right, you got to do the work. And. like. you have to create the team of like well. this friend does like. really cute like graphic design or this. one is like a really good photographer. which is. easy to find in LA.
So like living in Missouri or like. really anywhere else. it's really hard to find groups of. people like that. >> Totally. >> But like. start following people that you really. like and see how they do it. >> Yeah. >> And like. that's how. yeah. It will come to you if you want it. >> I also also I remembered too when I had. Muna. I was like who are some other like queer. artists that y'all are are riding for. right now and they were like every time. we say a name they blow past us. They.
were like like two years ago we were. talking about Chapel Roan and they were. like what how much we were saying how. much we love her. >> [laughter]. >> and then she just exploded. They were like so I'm not [ __ ]. talking about anyone else. >> [laughter]. >> Every time they [ __ ] blow past us. I. WAS LIKE MUNA DON'T SAY THAT. That's not. true. But they they love you. They're big fan. of you. >> It's not true at all. >> [laughter]. >> Like they're. >> I was like well they're like well we're. gay famous that's different like. Chapel's gay and mainstream famous.
>> famous. >> I think you're gay famous. >> I I feel gay famous on Twitter. >> [laughter]. >> And WeHo. >> And and WeHo. I'm like but barely cuz those are the. type of the gays that if they see. someone they love they'll go like this. >> [laughter]. >> And then they'll key with someone else. about it. Whatever. >> Yeah, like that. So like I'm gay. Highland Park famous. Do you know what I. mean? [laughter]. Like Highland Park. is like I'm.
Madam Pope. You know like so like so I'm. like Miss Pope. >> [laughter]. >> But in re- real world I don't think it's. hit me yet. >> Yeah. That's good. Stay in that bubble. >> scary cuz like I I realize that like now. like my security is like. at risk at like airports and [ __ ] And. like. just like. I don't realize how much I'm being. perceived anymore. So now I have to be. like careful about like. you know, walking to my car like people.
are going to know what my car looks like. now or like watching if people are. following me. >> when you're driving. >> driving or to my house. Like so. Yeah, anyway, I don't know why I'm on. that tangent. >> It's all right. >> I. I would say. um. advice. for going. >> Going back. >> Let's land the plane. >> Yeah. >> [laughter]. >> If you're chill. with everyone.
not bu- like like your family probably. being like this [ __ ] Like [laughter]. even when it comes to like drag. >> Yeah. >> or like wanting to do literally anything. >> Any kind of performance or anything. >> whatever. >> Mhm. Got to be okay with people not taking. you seriously. >> Yep. >> Having no money and it taking many. years. >> Yeah. >> That's it. >> [laughter]. >> When I did something this when I worked. this past weekend, I worked with like a. big sports thing and the way that men. go, "So like what do you do on Tik Tok?".
And I'm like. you're really not going to like the. answer to that question. >> you apartments. That's what I do. >> on Tik Tok, we would not be friends. >> hate me. >> [laughter]. >> You'd swat my house. >> Yeah, you would probably try to swat me, huh? I just start going on a tangent. >> [laughter]. >> Well, thank you so much Miss Chavron for. coming on. >> Thank you for. >> doll. I adore you. I'm glad I found out. we're twins in a lot of ways. >> Oh, we are twins. >> Look at us. You could We have a lot of. likeness about us. We look exactly. alike. >> We look. >> If let me tell me the name of the. Pilates studio I'll go and she'll. probably ask me the same thing. >> She's like, "You look just like.
Chavron." Roan. Has anyone told you. >> I get that all the time, too. I have. people like, "Are you Drew?". >> Yeah, see. >> Are you. >> Are you that [ __ ] [ __ ] from TikTok? That's what they say to you. >> They're going to say, "You look so much. prettier in person.". >> [laughter]. >> I'm going to be like, "And you know. what? Yeah, you're right. I do. So what? Who cares? I filmed that video on the. toilet. What do you want from me? Want. me in full beat on the [ __ ] toilet? On a mode?" Anyways, well, thank you so. much to the amazing Chappell Roan for. being joining us. Thank you all for. joining us on this episode. I know. everyone on this godforsaken show. already follows Chappell, but where can.
everybody find you? >> @chappellroan. >> Period. And do you have anything coming. up that you would like to promo? I know. you need the help, so go ahead take your. opportunity. >> Don't be a freak to me in public. And. also, um. >> Let her frolic. >> Let me. >> Let her frolic. >> sake. But. yeah, I mean, this year is going to be. [ __ ] awesome. Just announced a tour. in the US and it's like the last leg of. the Midwest Princess Tour, so. >> Period. >> This is the last time if you want to.
come. >> I I want to come. She hasn't offered, but that's okay. That's really awkward, Chappell. You. didn't ask me once if I wanted to come. >> come. Please come. >> I'll work the door at the Pink Pony. Club. I'll work the door. >> [laughter]. >> You have to get past me. >> Mhm. Mhm. Mhm. >> Well, thank you so much for coming on. the show. >> Thank you for having me. >> You're [ __ ] a star. I can't wait to. keep watching you rise. >> Same. >> And then I'll just be picturing you. watching Family Guy at home. >> When I When I pick when. >> You watch Family Guy at home.
>> When when Stewie comes on, I'll be like. >> It'll be [laughter] like that SpongeBob. episode where him and Mr. Krabs are. separated. It's like, "This kitchen's. not the same without you." That's you. and me watching Family Guy. >> [laughter]. >> On opposite sides OF THE WORLD. AT THE SAME NIGHT, I'M GOING TO THINK OF. you every time I watch [laughter] it. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank. you to my amazing guest, Chappell. And. I'll see you next week. Bye. >> [music]. >> I'm a girl.
I'm a girl.
