drunk at the time we came up with it. So, she was like, "You know what would. be so funny, dude, if we did that?" And. I was like, "That's hilarious." And then. when our tattoo artist like was going to. do our tattoos, we did the moon first. and then we were like, "Fuck it. Let's. just do it." Now it's tattooed on our. bodies forever. So, I mean, that is a. good one. And it's small. >> Yeah, it's small. Me and my sister have. it on the back of our neck and my. brother has it on his back, like on his. shoulder. I will say though, my brother. wanted it big as [ __ ] so it isn't like. 72 point font, which like kind of funny.

And I told my team, I. was like, "Yeah, get rid of all of them. They're hideous and ugly." And it's cuz. they went back like three years like. looking at my old videos and like my. lashes look insane. I'm blonde in a lot. of them. My hair is like insane in some. of them. I was like, "Hey, I look like. shit." So no. And you're like, I put out.

I've been getting extensions for like a. couple years, but I used to get really. even longer ones. Like I'm a real go big. or go home girl. So like I'll go all the. way and then work my way back. There's something there's still. something inside me that like wants hair. down to my waist. And I think it's I. think the something inside me is like. And it's like I I am poking fun at. uh growing up Christian and and the. church, but it's it's not as malicious. as my like younger bits about it were. Um and then yeah, it's like me talking.

about death and. >> preparing for that. I think that's. really interesting. And I also think. that's very indicative of your ability. to grow as a comic, too. Like, you've. been able to like look back and see your. other stuff and be like, there's. probably something funnier in there. that's less antagonistic and driving. from a different place. >> Yeah. >> Where I can be a little bit more. understanding, but also still make jokes. and talk about what it is, the very real. things I experience. >> Yeah. Well, and when you're like more of.

a personal comic like I am, Yeah. you. you change your mind about stuff. So, like there's younger versions of me that. did all these jokes that I still think. are funny, but I don't feel that way. anymore, you know, and I know where it. comes from now, and I know why I was mad. about that or, you know, why that. affected me so much. And so, and it's. it's not just the religious stuff. It's. also like dating and uh. >> which is all so closely intertwined too. into religion when you were raised. religious. >> It really [ __ ] is. And look, there's.

some things that I'm like, oh, that's still definitely the result. of being raised in like abstinence only. culture. It's like, look, I'm not going. to be able to sleep with you right away. I would like to, but it's just going to. take me a little longer and I've done as. much work as I can. >> on that part of me, but yeah, it's, you. know, I need to like know you pretty. well. And it is what it is, >> right? And that's and that is something. that you unpack with time. Yeah. Like. the more you are able to sit with it and.

process it. >> Yeah. But you're like I started in a. place of you have to marry me to have. sex with me pretty good now that maybe. it takes 6 to 8 weeks. >> Progress. >> Progress. >> Look at us. >> Yeah. >> Well, I I'm curious like when you were. on the Save Me Tour, did you feel. yourself developing it even more? So, did you kind of stick to what you. already planned like going into it? >> Oh, I mean that's what I love so much. about standup is it's like never done. I. mean, I added lines the night of the. special. Like, I was editing it up until.

the very last second and then you get. into the edit room after it's filmed and. then you're still cutting stuff. So, that's what's so fun about touring is I. mean, I'm so spoiled as a comedian. because I can do whatever I want up. there. Like, there are nights I get up. on stage and I'm like, there are 2,000. people here and I can do whatever I. want. I can say whatever the [ __ ] I. want. That's insane. >> You guys have to do what I say. have no. idea. This is crazy. Like I was really. sick one night on stage and I just. talked about it for like 8 minutes and I.

was like you got like. >> I have a cold. >> I have a cold and you're here. >> and you got to hear about it. >> and you got to hear about it. Uh but. yeah, I mean you're just always. constantly like adjusting and reworking. and adding jokes that you forgot you. used to do and cutting jokes that don't. work in the hour. And like sometimes. you'll have a joke you really like, but. it doesn't fit like thematically in this. hour. So then you might save it or you. might just cut it all together and then. it goes nowhere, but it was like fun to.

do for a year on the road. It's really. interesting. I mean, by the way, are you. still dabbling in standup at all? Cuz. last time. >> No. And I was going to tell you that. I. was actually going to because I'm not. even kidding. That conversation sits. with me a lot when I told you about that. and then you were like, "Don't do that.". >> Well, I was like, "You're so Yeah. I was. like, you're so successful.". >> Yeah. You're like, "You skipped the. line. You don't need to don't do that.". I'm not kidding. That sits with me. I I. have thought about it. I've talked about. it in meetings with my team. I'm like, "Well, Taylor, a very established and. successful stand-up comedian, told me.

not to do that.". >> Well, you should if you want to. >> Well, that's the thing is I didn't I was. on the fence and I think you could tell. That's why you said that to me because. if it's not a hell yes, it's probably a. no. >> Yeah. >> Because it's that hard. Like that's like. it is that hard. But I was going to. bring that up to you because. >> when I was still kind of on the fence. like when I talked to you about it. >> Yeah. I wasn't like my mind wasn't super. made up but I was kind of like I mean I. did it once and I didn't love but also. like it was my very first time so like. if I keep going I'll pro maybe I'll like. it more like that's kind of what I was. thinking and then I got hired.

I'll tell you who it was after. >> to do standup but like they wanted me to. be like the face of something like a. like a new thing they were trying to. make and I think they were trying to. mirror Netflix as a joke right they were. trying to like mirror that but with. women and and the first thing I said was. I'm not a stand-up. So if this is about. standup I wouldn't pick me because I. think you should pick established. standup comedians or people at least. pursuing that. >> because I'm not like it and it feels and.

you know me like it feels disingenuous. right to like take that gig. Plus, they. were going to put other people on the. lineup. So, I was like, "Well, if you're. with other stand-ups, like, I don't want. to be above them on on a marquee like. that, >> right? >> That's disrespectful to them. And it's. also stupid because I am not a standup.". And they were like, "It's not going to. be that. It's going to be like stand up, but yes, but also like live podcast and. also just like live this." And I was. like, "Okay." So, when they pitched it. to me that way, I was like, "Okay, sure.". >> Then I signed the deal and I'm in the.

deal and part of the deal is doing two. shows and they wanted me to do 20. minutes. Mind you, I've only ever done. the five. Yeah. >> So, I was like, "Oh, I gotta work up to. And normally you go 5, 10, 15, 20, but. okay, sure, I'll jump to 20." Like, because I was like, I could [ __ ] for. 20, but like I didn't want to [ __ ]. And I didn't want to just do crowd work. I wanted to like actually write jokes. Yeah. >> So, then. >> they tell me the 20. I'm like, okay, that's fine. And they're going to put. like five other people on the lineup. All of them. When the lineups came out, standups. All of them. Some of them.

Huge ones. And I'll tell you after. >> Oh, no. Like, and I was like, and when I. got those, I was like, why would you. [ __ ] do that? Like, I was pissed off. cuz I was like, I told you not to do. that to me. Like, and it's And then it. just makes me look like a dick. Like, I. look like a [ __ ] influencer that cut. the line like that. Like, >> well, and I really I It's so nice to. hear someone like respect the art form. of standup cuz sometimes I'm like, does. does everyone think this is stupid? Like, there's like do people think like. this is just silly? Like it's hard to be.

hardest to get. Like, I just finished a. special, so I have like no new jokes. I. If you asked me to do 20 right now, I. would be like, I can't do that. That's. literally what Caleb told me. He was. like, you're because your first 20, it. dictates the pace of the rest of it. Yeah. >> Right. So, like I was like, and the. success of it also because you could. lose them in the first 20. >> So, I was already annoyed about that. Then, when I saw the other stand-ups, I. was like, why would you do that? Some of. them I I love and I adore their comedy. And I was like, why would you do that? And then I was pissed off, but there's.

nothing I can do. I'm already in it. So. then I did the first show which was in. New York. So I did the 20. And so. because of the brand it was with this. was another reason I was annoyed because. in a lot of the marketing, it was. centered around me making fun of men, which like. >> yeah, like can I do that? Am I good at. it? Yes. Is that the only thing I can. do? No. But I knew that's what they. wanted because that's how they marketed. me in everything. Everything was themed. around me being a dick to men, like. making fun of them, blah blah blah, which I think are cheap and easy jokes,

but fine. Right. So, for this the set I. wrote for the 20. >> was centered on that. Like, I was like. using that as my my focal point because. that's what you hired me for. >> It's a corporate gig, >> right? Exactly. I was like, this is and. it was like sponsored and all of that. So, I was like, this is what I'm going. to focus on. This is what they want to. see clearly, right? Because they asked. they asked me to do all this other [ __ ]. involving that theme. And so, then I did. the 20. It did really well. Honestly, I. killed like I did a good job. >> No, that was the move. >> And I did a little bit of And I was like. telling Caleb about it, too. And I was. like, I also feel comfortable there.

Like I can I can pivot there really. easily because that's what I've been. joking about. So, it's easy, but it's. still annoying to me, but I'm going to. do it. So, I did it. I killed I did a. little bit of crowd work, too. That did. well, also. And then it was kind of it. And then after that, they were like, "Wow, THAT WAS INCREDIBLE. WOW, that was. amazing. Oh my god, that was so. amazing." Blah, blah, blah. Then a. couple weeks pass and then I go back. home because I was in New York and I was. supposed to do another show in LA and so. that was my last one. And then they had. a meeting with my team and they told my.

team um we had some notes about the set. >> Like. >> I want to know what brand it was so bad. >> I don't even know if you know who they. are really, but like I'll tell you. obviously after, but it was actually. I'll tell you now. It was. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, girl. It was them. >> But I hate them. >> That's okay. That's not what I I thought. you were going to say like Lollipop or. something. >> No, see, and that's that's the annoying. part is because the other brand was.

I said, I'm. not [ __ ] Tony Robbins, so I don't. know what the [ __ ] you're talking about. Are you guys Did you guys mean to hire. Mel Robbins? Did you guys mean to get. her? The [ __ ] are you talking about? >> You come out with a wireless mic. >> I was like, >> you know what's great about the boys? >> I was like, "Put your hands together. Rub them together. We're going to create. the life we've always wanted." That's. what the [ __ ] I they wanted me to do up. there. And I was like, I cannot believe. I was shaking with rage when my my team.

Like they were like I. wasn't feeling very inspired when I. >> No, that's one guy. One guy high up, >> right? You're right. Which depend based. on who you told me it is. I'm very.

confused. >> Yeah. It's it's actually you're actually. dead on because my team was pissed, right? I wasn't even in the conversation. at this time. So. >> And you shouldn't have to be. >> Yeah. Exactly. mad and they said, "Is this coming from. someone or is this something you guys. just came up with?" And then they said, "There was an older gentleman that was. uh in charge." He was the higher up and. it always is. >> Yeah. Um that was with the brand that. sponsored it, >> right? And he was in the audience, which. I knew because there was one old guy. sitting in the center like arms crossed.

the whole time going like just annoyed. Yeah. The whole set. So I knew exactly. who it was. I could see him the whole. night. and they said that he complained. and like since he was uh his brand was. sponsoring the second one, he demanded. that I change my set and make it better. because it was too antagonistic and. [ __ ] up to men, which I was like. >> I want to know what he thought about all. the other comedians, >> right? Cuz another comedian that night. said a slur on stage. So, you know, um I. would say if we were. >> cut to him standing ovation, >> he's like.

>> he's so excited. He's like finally. >> need more of that. Need more of that. Well, and then I was like, the fact that. you would even ask me Yeah. >> is disrespectful. You You guys are. telling me an old white dude came to you. and said, "That loud [ __ ] is [ __ ]. annoying and rude, and I want you to. make her change it, and you're going to. seriously bring it to me and ask me.". >> No, that's absolutely insane. >> Yeah. And then I literally told my my. team, I was like, "I'll make it real. easy. I quit. I'm not doing that next. one. >> I'm out." And then they were like, "Do. you want to like," because then they. said, on top of needing me to change.

everything, they also said they bumped. me two down and uh cut my set down to 10. minutes. And then they were like, "So. there's going to be two more acts after. you, bigger ones, more popular ones, like in the standup world, obviously.". And. >> you're like, "Oh, you're going to do. what I told you to do?". >> And they're like, "Well, I mean, if it's. about the time, like she could have the. full 20." Like I was like, "And so. perform even more for free?". >> Yeah. No, I'm not doing that. I was. like, no, actually, no, I'm not doing. that. And go [ __ ] yourself. And then I. told them, I quit. I'm not doing it.

I was coming from set. was really tired. and I left and I was like Drew's an. incredible podcaster and interviewer and. carried that [ __ ]. >> cuz I was very sleepy and I hadn't met. you and I was. >> I thought you killed I don't know what. you're talking about. >> No, I was just like I felt like the. whole time I was just asking you. questions like about like not in a funny. way just like how did you meet your. fiance? >> Well, to be fair that was our first time. meeting. >> It was our first time meeting.

So, when I was writing my own. book, I stopped reading um non-fiction.

I stopped reading all of it as I. was writing because I didn't want. anything to like imprint in my brain and. then I write it and then I'm like, >> I came up with that, of course. >> But then really, it's just something I. remembered from somewhere. Even some of. the quotes like like things that I've. said many times in interviews that I. wrote into my book, I literally Googled. them to make sure nobody else said them. because I was like, "Let me just make. sure." Okay, cool. >> I know. I do that with jokes, too. Or. you'll write certain jokes and you're.

like, >> certain persons like I went I've gone to. certain people and been like, did you. write this already? And they're like, no. And I'm like, okay, well, it seems. like something you would have talked. about. >> Exactly. scary. >> I was a little worried and I before I. wrote I wrote my own book, I like had. read a lot of self-help empowerment. stuff. So, I was like just in case I'm. going to cut myself off, no reading. So, I didn't read anything like that. So, I. I read fiction instead. >> Uhhuh. >> Which I loved because I haven't read. fiction since I was like a teenager in.

high school. So, I was like, "Oh my god, I should read more fiction books." So, I. started reading more fiction. That's how. I get got into like romanty books. >> That's when you started reading Acatar. >> Yes. because that was me like venturing. into that world of adult fiction. And. then I was like after I finished my book. and it went well, thank God for you. Um, then I told my publisher when they're. like, "Let's do another book." And I was. like, "I'm only 30, so I have no more. advice to give. I got nothing else on. me, bitch." Like, and I told them, "What. do you guys think about fiction because.

I've read so many, so that's my next. book.". >> I [ __ ] love that. Well, and that's. kind of how I feel exactly about this. I'm like, I know everyone just wants me. to write the comedian memoir essays book. and I can do that and I will. >> and then I want to write. >> the young adult fantasy novel. >> Let's do it. >> And it's like once they know I can. finish a book, >> maybe they'll be more open to other. ideas. I was. like, "It's funny. It's a joke and who. cares." And then all this [ __ ] happened. and I said, "So when I make another joke. about, guys, it's my mom's birthday.

You're all going to be cool about it. >> Don't want to [ __ ] hear it. Don't. want to [ __ ] hear it because I made. that joke already." And I have made. little jokes like that to people in the. past that have been kind of rude or. dismissive on carpets. And you're right, they don't get them. They don't get them. at all. Like they have no sense of humor. at all. >> One guy on a carpet doesn't tired and. >> Right. And I made it. He was I asked him. a very simple question. He was giving me. some [ __ ] ass answer. I think he was. trying to be funny or I don't know. But. I asked him a question and he was like, "Oh, like at my like I throw all these.

big parties. I throw these huge parties. at my house." He kept saying that over. and over again. I throw these huge. parties and we make ice cream sandwiches. at my house. And I and he said, "I throw. these huge parties at least three times. in the time I was talking to him." And I. go, "Okay, all these parties and I. haven't been to one. That's [ __ ] up.". And then he goes, "I don't even know. you. I just met you." Like, I'm [ __ ]. stupid. And he says that to me and I go, "And what does that mean? I can't come. to your house. What does that mean?" And.

then he goes, >> "Anyways." And he like finished his. answer. >> Wasn't like trying to do a bit back. No. >> Cuz I think he thought I was being very. literal. So that's why and even some. people in the comments caught it a. little bit in some of my things where. they were like why would he. >> why was he so like offended when she. made that joke and I was like it's tough. when you see like celebrities. trying like they're not making a joke or. even saying anything that makes sense. but they're saying it in the cadence of. a joke and that is really hard to watch.

when they're like well you know and. you're like. yeah well that was Okay. Like you have. the rhythm of a joke, right? You're kind. of smiling. >> Like when kids babble and then you're. like, "Oh, that was so funny.". >> Yes. >> You're just pretending with them. >> Yeah. >> You got to step into the to the. delusion, >> right? >> Step into. >> That's what seems like the hardest part. about doing those carpet interviews is. the the the fake laughing you probably.

have to do. >> Oh, girl. The amount of fake laughing. Also, the way that um right before I. talk to them, especially if they're. really famous, >> Yeah. I'll have someone come to me and. go, "YOU GET ONE. >> ONE QUESTION. THAT'S IT.". >> The celebrity will say that or. publicist. Oh, okay. They'll they'll. yell in my FACE LIKE THAT, ONE, >> OH MY GOD. >> And then they turn around and then their. backs hurt to me and I'm like, >> AND OH MY GOD, HOW ARE YOU FEELING? >> And your first question is, "Can I ask. more questions?" Like with a genie and. it says, "Three wishes.

>> Can I ask you five questions?" And. they're like, "Yes." If I ask you Yeah. And sometimes like I'll say to them like. they said I only got one so I got to be. quick. And then I'll ask them the best. question and then when they giggle. sometimes they'll be like ask me another. one. Ask me another one. So the whole. point is to get them to like me but. sometimes their their teams are yelling. at me and they do this thing too where. like if you're talking for too long. they'll walk up behind you in your frame. and then they'll just hold your back.

like this. >> I don't like that. Or they'll touch your. elbow like this and they're like letting. you know like wrap it up [ __ ] otherwise. I'm taking them. >> Yeah. Like and what's works out. sometimes though is like even like when. I met Timothy Shalamé like his his. publicist loves me. Like she's like on. TikTok. >> That's so cool. >> So she came up and she was like I love. you and I was like you do? She goes. yeah. I go can I talk to him? and she. went, "Yeah, that's and why I also think you're a. great fit for it is like your energy and.

a lot of comedians have this too, which. I think is really good. >> for famous people, >> is. like you're kind of like I don't care. how hot and famous you are.". >> And a lot of people, most people treat. you really well and gently because you. look like this. >> But I don't give a [ __ ]. >> right? And you don't have the things. that I'm looking for. Yeah. >> When I am like intimidated by people, like I want people to be like really. funny and interesting and you don't have.

that. You're just symmetrical. >> And I think that throws famous people. for a loop when you're kind of like, "Hey, how are you?" And they're like, "Why didn't the temperature in the room. change when I walked in?". >> Usually usually I float in and everyone. kind of. >> and you didn't you didn't really snap to. attention there. panties aren't soaked. And. then at the end I was like looking at. him and I was like, "You [ __ ] nailed. that, dude." And then he's like, "I did, didn't I?" I was like, "Up top, bro.". And then he like he he was like, "Hit me. up top." And then we high five.
