🔥💰IDHI YAAPARAMMM!! | Ft. Raj P Narayanam | RAW TALKS WITH VK
Yes, that's the first thing I got to know. about you 500. at the age of 29 I had best cars right. from Porsche to BMW to Merced wait. 88 89 times share market had started we. bought a share called SR Industries 87. or 88 rupees so that went like crazy. So.
my first sale of the share was at oh. then hers time came I was making lot of. money. 91 years 2 years but how did you manage. but my father. thought I'm drugs you know smuggling.
[music]. start in a journey. [laughter]. He's always with God. God doing doing. this this this this this. Why? Money is. a very very bad servant. It will make. you do things which you don't want to. [music] $1,100 per hour was my billing. rate a day. Maybe [music] 165 companies and built. two big large companies which are. listed. Correct. >> [laughter].
>> presentation. Beautiful presentation. Next minute, tight slap across the face. Oh my. goodness. They will bully you. They will. I am going to take away your job. Every. day it was coming down down down down. Businessman. down. He did not reduce even one rupee. [music].
roam. Where is Raj? >> I want to talk to Raj. [music]. that your story is not over till it is. over. It is very good sir. [music]. >> Roto Talks is on a mission to change the. content consumption pattern in Telugu. Do support us, subscribe and don't miss. out.
Sir, welcome. Hello. >> Hello. >> How are you? >> Very good. Very good. Thanks a lot for coming finally. [laughter and gasps]. >> I'll tell you something which I got to. know about you. Actually, relationship manager. I'll not name the. bank and name the person also. So I know. he's he's a good man top top person in. the banking industry.
good relationship manager basically one. of the banks one of the banks. Okay. So. he was like. subject to correction. [laughter]. That's the first thing I got to know. about you. Oh, crazy. [laughter].
[laughter]. So, how does it feel sir? Fantastic. On the but you know at least above the. earth we should always be below the. earth. That's how it is. So but. fantastic and fantastic. >> and they're feeling happy excited. touchwood touchwood and touchwood double. touchwood. >> [laughter]. >> But sir and straight question again.
almost 47 plus companies invest if the. number is right. >> 159 companies maybe 165 companies. >> through through direct investment. through AIFS through funds. So all of. them about 165 companies intern. or in Zagle. >> through Zagle. >> through Zagle we have acquired about. five companies. So. >> and in your lifetime. >> lifetime law I would have done about 12.
and built two big large companies which. are listed correct. built to exited to. >> Oh yeah. [laughter]. and then after this apart from this you. are one of the prominent names in the. Hyderabad ecosystem but why are you not. on media? This is by default. the business philosophy. Let the work. speak. >> Okay. And the man behind the work should.
not be you know seen so much as the as. the work. So that is why if you look at. probably 100 podcast. but I'm doing only yours. So that that. means how special you are you have to. think. >> Means a lot sir. recently. always behind the scenes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 2009. Oh, no. Actually media.
company. Yeah. It was meant to be done through always. behind the scenes especially since 2009. Yeah. Yeah. Right. Right. People like. me, we learn a lot. But he's a builder. I I love. conversations with entrepreneurs too or. investors appreciate that he's. institution business.
100%. >> and one more thing agree with you. couple of me panel discussions okay. or I was in another panel after yours or. before yours. I keep observing all these. entrepreneurs. So for the audience also. [snorts]. I was I thought you are very silent.
Hyderabad. correct silent on the panel. >> I think you know which panel is so. [laughter]. >> but what I loved there is. >> subtle silent gesture. >> uh there's a concept called as power. dynamics. >> Yeah. >> Your actions speak a lot. Yeah,
>> it'll position you a lot. >> Maybe. like and you speak a lot about. psychology also. >> Hundreds of employees managers to two. big large companies which are listed. managers to being a chairman and played. multiple roles in the company. You must. be a saleserson as well. and you've been working with almost 100. plus SPSUs. >> Yeah, more than that. >> Hundred hundreds of uh corporate sectors. also. >> Y thousands. >> Thousands. Yeah. 4,000.
>> So, >> what do you think about power dynamics. and psychology behind power? >> See, psychology behind power is is very. different. >> Okay. Power is a feeling inside to be. felt by outside. Okay. >> It is that you should never feel the. power inside but the other person on the. outer side should feel the power. Okay. that is when it is called power. Okay.
So that is that is the whole uh you know. if you look at it and power dynamics see. it's a very beautiful word and power. dynamics is played by majority of the. leaders if you look at it they know when. to stop. >> they will not talk they will make the. other guy little bit uncomfortable% okay. and once he gets uncomfortable is when. they will talk okay sometimes sometimes. power is silence okay sometimes power is.
talking. Sometimes power is observing. So depends on which situation you are in. you have to play whether it is keeping. quiet, talking or observing. Agreed. [laughter]. >> And many times. it was as simple as. it plays a key role. Absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. There are 200% everything. under see the power is very close to.
theatrics. Okay. So person who is. interested in theater okay is. automatically a power guy 100%. >> Okay. Acting as you know is is power. >> So we have some of the best actors today. as politicians as [laughter] you. >> as you would know the better actor is. better politician he is. Okay. So so so. you know and we have to see now our. latest entrance you know in in Tamil. Nadu which is Vijayaru Vijayaru is a.
super actor super doer super executor. and a person who is probably supposed to. change the game you know in in in in. Tamil Nadu. >> hopefully hopefully hopefully so he's. also playing a very powerful very. powerful theatrical game [laughter]. you speak a lot about your uh political. moves initially and I. Oh, too many. Too many ind. See, I you. know I was born in Adoni. >> Karn district. [clears throat] Okay.
>> And I was my father was in government. service. Okay. He was uh PA you know MA. MSE double MA MSE PhD doctorate jawalu. award winner. So he's a great man and a. great man and he was in you know Delhi. and so we all had to shift to Delhi. >> Right. Right. So. I was in between lot of north Indians. and they are super sweet people yet at. the same time they will bully you. Okay.
we are we are south Indian soap. Okay. Second thing in between them they. are all they're very conversent with. Hindi. My father my mother my mother. started speaking Hindi chana fluently. but my father till this last you know. was not able to speak in Hindi okay in. spite of living in Delhi for so many. years. he'll say. what he would say but he will not be. able to say much so that I realized you.
know. while I was doing my education. if I have to survive. it is The jungle raj. >> right. >> Okay. They will bully you. They will do. this. They will madi. and that is how they will speak. They. will talk to you like. absolutely intimidating. Intimidating. plus they will do all this power. politics. Okay. in very early I think in sixth or.
seventh class I have to make my way. otherwise environment I may not be able. to you know make so. imagine selfawareness that I'm so and so. I am like this. I have to do something else and. something else okay so then I started. slo school. then you know became head.
boy uh you know in my class sorry class. monitor not head boy class monitor class. monitor and like that I went ahead went. ahead and then eventually in college I. got into you know mandal then I was like. delo key role I played India today front. page photograph you'll see my photograph. that's my claim to fame. okay. >> basically you Chaka is like this. Okay.
How do you do it? 100%. close that so that so that public is. inconvenience. If public is. inconvenience, popularity of the. politician will go down. If popularity. of the politician goes down, they will. come and start talking to us. That's the. game plan. >> Done. Done.
[laughter]. But I'm telling you that was that was. the you know beautiful game. we are not getting jobs you know. reservation what will you do you make. 100% reservation my thought was that. okay you make 100% reservation. >> double game right okay this way that way. and I played a very key role entire. northwest Delhi I was a and my father if. Not for my father, I would have become.
probably next election I would have. fought the election. Next election. guarant. people would looking at it and you know. I also did too much of hard work. I'm a. lazy guy. So general as a business guy. as a normal guy I'm a lazy guy but when. it comes to business when it comes to. these activities you will find me as. sure. first question you asked me was about.
[laughter]. yeah. but but the beauty. if you look at it your character starts. getting built. >> when you go through pain when you go. through pain your character comes Right? >> How do you behave? What is your what is. your. equation with pain? >> So the person who will understand their. equation with pain, they will understand. life beautifully. Absolutely. Beautifully. So that is how and.
political life was be it was part. started with like we are seeing what we. are seeing in Jar Mantra. So it started. like that and slowly slowly it got. beautifully built and then I thought I. was the Northwest Congress president too. and then eventually I thought that okay. I'll also contest election but my father. told me father brought me he said. >> if you want to be in the house.
that is true. so he was very. And then finally I thought also. I'll jump from the balcony and I will. leave the home. Okay. 99.9%. prepare. Okay. I will jump and I'll go. I'll do what I have to do because I. crave for freedom aadi. Okay. So I. became an entrepreneur also for one.
simple thing that I don't want to go and. report to people. >> But later on you came to know that you. know once you become an entrepreneur you. are answerable to everybody. Now now we. are a public listed company so we are. answerable to shareholders. So there is. additional addition more more more. people. So that's how life went a day. So and then um as the as the journey. continued. >> eventually if I would have landed in.
I would have been somewhere else but I. did not take that jump but too much of. respect for my father. Okay. And I still. remember like a photographic memory. I would have just instance. I probably would have been like maybe. MP, PM, President anything. You never. know. You never know.
Not too much now. But one thing is there. definitely. [laughter]. one thing one thing. that I have to get this. So that is one thing which is very. strong in me and that has come from my. mother. >> from my mother. Mother comes from a good. business and a big business family. So.
air pitch in the beautiful thoughts. She. she taught me lot of good things. So. fight hard work. She came from very good. family but married to my father. My. father is right. Okay. He's intoademics. Okay. Oh, [laughter]. they mutually exclusive. [laughter].
before getting into the journey sir. >> one question I wanted to ask you. considering your business models. >> Sure. Sure. >> Uh money. >> because you are both the business. Let's. not introduce the business right now. >> But uh psychology of money what we. wanted to ask you is. >> generally there's a concept called as. pain of pain right.
5. Exactly. [laughter].
painless pain. We have subscriptions. Pain of pay. and because you are in this industry for. almost a couple of decades more than. that more than that.
psychology behind money spending. psychology. and also lifestyle as lifestyle. your experience what do you think about. the psychology behind money. >> How is it shifting from.
money? One thing which will happen to. money, it will depreciate. >> Yeah. >> It will depreciate constantly depreciate. depreciation appreciate. >> Okay. Why you have to appreciate that. this will depreciate? If if let's say. any youngster is listening to my this uh. podcast okay they have to understand the. value which they have today in handle. okay is not the not the value they will. have after 5 years 10 years 20 years.
>> 200% yes. >> so they have to get into investing. >> as early as possible so the money which. is there today if it is kept like this. as it is mana notes rup. Otherwise you know any any. there is no benefit. You have to put. that at least to cover inflation plus. tax. Inflation plus tax. How will you do that? You have to invest.
into stock market. Okay. Or into mutual. funds or into you know some assets. Some. assets. Okay. India concept which should come is. strata selling real estate there is. nothing called strata. square fractional. >> fractional fractional real estate so if. I want like for example 10 square yards. can I get 10 square yards no so that is. the problem so India should allow the.
land to be broken into smaller units. okay. I don't know if there is a law or. So I was but even I don't know whether. they are legal or no money we have to. look at it but reats are there reads are. there reads are for commercial. properties but not for this so what we. have to understand that money name okay. money is a very very bad servant. >> okay and money is a great master okay so.
that we have to understand bad servant. Hindu. it will make you do things it will make. you do things which you don't want to. okay so like servant. then it's a gone case. master okay if you see money as a master. you will make more money what India. needs is sir all that money which is. lying all over India has to come into. industry. >> right.
>> okay somehow or the other and what I. have seen in in my life my journey and. I'll tell you uh one story which we. discussed maybe some time back. >> is the story that for me my journey. started with that I was not able to get. 250 rupees okay. >> revenge story revenge story that is the. revenge story. so that look at that 250 rupees so what. did you know how did this story start I.
wanted to buy a Nare shoe. >> nare was completely. imports smuggled goods and coach. Okay. And Gafar Khan, Gafar Khan market. There. was a market called Gafar market. Gafar market. you know you have to go and you will. have lot of importers and people who. will showcase smuggled. beautiful shoe. I thought this is the. shoe I am going to get. Okay. So once.
you have made up the mind that you know. I have to get this and if you don't get. it. how is the feeling feeling is of. helplessness while it is a shoe. after a few years you will see it's only. a shoe for me that is a story that is my. life story a shoe so what is this is. about 16 and a half 16 and a half 16 17. range okay and from there are 250 rupees. now calls and total shoe 1250.
Okay, 200 rupees per month. So with that. whatever I could save I saved and you. know and then I thought. I'll buy it and first. I told father that okay brother marriage. so I want to wear this shoe for the. marriage and my own brother. >> my own brother okay so my stupid fellow. [laughter] he told me nothing doing. northstar 99 rupees that is called.
northstar buy that any I said no because. I had made up my mind mind. once you make up the mind then you go. for the action. So mind make up already. So then I told him no I want to buy. this. He said no. two father was very upset. too much too much too expensive.
you have to study, you have to become. you know with. [laughter]. so. I was not able to get my friends. nobody that time you know cash liquid. cash you know I'm talking about 198687. okay 1988. range okay so I was about 17 16 and a. half. >> and the the problem boss that I wanted.
to buy the shoe. So I went there and I. told him that I want to buy the shoe,000. rupees and we'll quickly buy it. And. that shoe nare shoe. he did not reduce even one rupee. >> did not reduce even one rupee for me. The shoe became my story. I. never ever in my life will I ever ask.
anybody money. line. okay any time and any time I should be. in a position to you know. self-sufficient positional. for myself I should never ask money that. was such a. and after that even for my studies. future studies I did not ask money from. my dad. >> or and after that I got into business.
you know 16 17 years age you started. business my friends who will listen to. this podcast will feel very happy that. we printed t-shirts we sold t-shirt you. know future studies. [laughter]. but sorry so that was like a fantastic. wherever he is today.
and like that you know I got. so. what is it which is the easiest to do. okay. I can get. was not there for t-shirts.
especially in Delhi but t-shirt craz. slowly had started coming and then I. thought you thought of doing something. because Nike. 250 250 rupees. my father. 250. I would have been anademician or. something else or politician or XYZ. something. I would not have entered into business. so soon that is the that is the start of.
the story one lesson after that I have. never been able to buy Nike shoe. >> been able to. >> never been able to. work uh I have not been able to buy Nike. shoe that means. For me, the urge to make money, >> urge to continuously make money for, you. know, my shareholders, my partners, my. stakeholders, my this is continuously.
growing. I have to make more and more. and more and more is the is the thought, right? Okay. With that energy, it it. gives you energy. It gives you purpose. It gives you freedom. freedom purpose. direction that is how you know I went on. from there and I said whatever it is. I'll I'll never ever never ever and I. never ever borrow even a single pesa for. myself for businesses for other things. okay but not for myself is what is my. >> 250 start in a journeyal.
[laughter]. thousands of critics. so t-shirts business t-shirts t-shirts. business start after that t-shirt. So we. sold. >> I saw that t-shirt first t-shirt first. t-shirt. Yeah, she saw that in the. office office room. So a t-shirt. action. Okay. A A C T I O N beautiful. t-shirt and you know 30 rupees t-shirt. 50 rupees come know my profit was what. 20 20 rupees now profit to 20 rupees of.
profit and about 66% you know gross. margin on [laughter]. crazy you know that is that is that is. what was my margin and from there I. started and once I sold one lot or two. lots or three lot so then I got money I. was able to save roughly about three. three and a half,000 rupees uh three. three and a half,000 rupees save. There. was another friend of mine. house number is 15 flat number is 15 13.
okay. was a super guy. okay so they were always in business but. he's a special friend to me a very. special friend and he helped me to sell. this t-shirts and all of that so. stock market You know stock market had. just started to you know grow and a. little bit grow little bit grow. 89 that wasn't two three lots year and a.
half and then you know 89 around 89 89. 88 89. you know share market had started so I. asked him. what do we do what do we do he said okay. let's let's talk to somebody he had. another person whom he knew. So what we did was we. what we did was whatever we had.
we went and bought a share called SR. Industries. >> Uhhuh. >> SR Industries and Rojo was I think 87 or. 88 rupees. Okay. >> What was it into? Uh it [clears throat]. was there steel manufacturing. So share. market like we went and bought the. shares. So a hype day that went like. crazy. and crazy. >> and it went on to you know touch heights.
and heights and heights. Next 10 15 days. low or maybe let's say 20 days low it. was at about 100 rupees. So. >> 87. >> 87 100 n it went up to 287. So my first. sale of the share was at 287. almost 200 profit. in short time we could so make so much. money. >> So and then with that I continued then.
investing in shares investing in shares. So and. nothing you know there was nothing. the kind of money we were making and. constantly investing in shares. good. shares, good quality shares. you know 16 low. he used to work for a company called. perigrine perig. you know it's a very very large you know.
company based out of Singapore he was. based out of Singapore. >> he used to get a magazine called. business India. >> okay a business India magazine every. every fortnight okay every fortnite or. monthly no fortnite monthly one of those. two things. it used to come. >> Okay. >> So this I'm talking about 91 91. Okay. >> And I would read that magazine. So. magazine. front runners one column used to be. there. Okay. Front runners on the second.
last page. Okay. Or third last page. Okay. >> Front runners. Front runners. Okay. And then. [clears throat]. there will be studies about companies. Okay. company. What is it? What are they? I would read. them with so much of passion, so much of. love. I.
anything and I'll constantly be on it. and totally. >> so. so slowly self-awareness again that. possibly. this is the line I have to take okay. business but industry more than business. industry mind okay and then you know my. mother's brothers they were like big. business people so I would visit them.
visit chapu and as a child also when I. was like very small child also I used to. go visit them and then uh you know when. we will go look at how they are doing. business they were big distributors for. Hindustan Leveru Amulu Smith Klein BMU. Lipton Tat all of these and then. we will take money we'll give goods it. taught me a lot so much and so much it. taught me how to Note.
every day evening every day evening we. will count the notes. So we we are about. 33 cousins. Okay. So all 33 cousins will. be in Adoni. Okay. So all of us you know. counter that was a big counter. I think. I impact to E impact to Ashue impact to. you know they played a big role. So as.
you as you know. that object will look like. Of course, of course. So, so. and then I realized that it is good. Meanwhile stock market. was making lot of money and. then harsh ma time came harsh ma time. was like he's the person who showed.
industry that what the market can be any. okay maybe his ways were not corrective. his uh you know what he did was not. correct the biggest but he showed the. biggest biggest side so we made lot of. money but with lot of money also crash. happened okay so we lost lot of money. also in that. stock market. father never knew father.
that I'm trading because. it is my own hardearned money. very hard-shirt [laughter]. Imagine by chance a share down okay or. let's say invest in the 8,700 rupees to. buy 100 shares. by chance 50 60 20 30 maybe I would not. have carried on but that gave me a kick. you know that after that.
went on thousand something it went but I. sold it at 287 not the stock. they will ask me to pay all the taxes. for those days. oh no run to kh. 91. >> two years. >> two years. we went minted and minted I did very. very very well and very very well but uh.
also we lost lot of money. account number 17636. bank. >> okay I will tell them put the money. Okay. They used to like constantly this thing.
So I remember. broker broker. Okay. So that was the. sale whatever we had sold. wrong suitcase [laughter] but my father. accidentally accidentally. he should not have left the this thing. he should have given it only when I was. there but you know father. thought I'm into some wrong activity.
something. he should give it to me I told him see. my trading in shares. and he podcast everybody will even my. brother sisters everybody [laughter]. daddy was very upset and it father. admission great. 100% to drugs you know smuggling you. know you know that you know bad company. what is it it is because.
civil services and you know he was. already he was already railway he got. railway zoo and he was a big man in. railway zoo he did he brother who did. exceedingly well and my sister also got. married and my brother-in-law okay the. biggest support if if I have to say. >> is my brother-in-law the most silent. supporter and what a what a big man he. is we put right now he works for.
Reliance he heads the pipeline. engineering division he's from Kohim. Maturur from Kimaturur but he was in. Delhi he was working for Engineers India. Limited but he is one person who helped. me throughout and throughout never ever. asked so when the downfall came I lost. lot of money I don't know what to do how. to do. okay similarly like by chance.
okay So. market crashed market. because of the scam. Okay. And we loved. our shares all physical certificates. marketing. It was very difficult. We were always. investors. So our broker would say. you know 9:30 you would be there till. 3:30.
because it's like a daily stock. Yes. So they were and we will try to contact. him.
>> [laughter]. >> So that is that is the. [laughter]. so that is the story and and we went on. we did you know so father. he came to know and he told me. I don't want you to do anything you have. to do MBA okay no post family law. postgraduate so everybody my sister my.
brother sister-in-law brother-in-law. everybody okay he said you have to do. postgraduation. and already then by the age of you know. 22 I had so much of experience. I will be able to teach them MBA what. because. you see and. youth you know youth you. Mallay you have succeeded you have lost. Okay you succeeded you lost and then the.
third thing along with that you learn a. lot of things you learn how to. safeguard. So one thing which I realized. is. >> earning uh you know earning money is not. important too. >> ensuring that the money is saved. Okay. >> Okay. Losing money. you should not lose money. So you look. at it even even when you are doing. whatever you are doing you should really. concentrate and see that safeguarding.
money okay capital preservation okay. capital increase capital preservation is. more important. okay so I changed a lot on it sir. so important aspect when you look at. money okay Money. is a fluid commodity, right? Fluid. Okay. Okay. Bank loan. Okay. So, it's a very.
fluid commodity. A fluid commodity. How. to tame it? >> Okay. It's like water. Can you hold. water? Huh? Unless and until you put in. a container or bottle like this bottle. we have or this container we have, it is. not. Money is like that. So. people should be taught early in their. age and earlier as early as possible. Mana education system one of the worst. education systems in the world world.
education system how to bring in. financial literacy right from you know. right from age of 5 6 7 8 they should. know if you remember. okay. multiple times. Okay. Imagine a book.
Exactly. Or something for us. It would have been so good. So a capital. preservation. Okay. That means. capital. [snorts]. then what what is today one will become. one in so many days so many years and. lot of people will start investing India.
misselling misconceptions too much. illiterates are more than literates okay. I'm sorry to say but. [laughter]. but honestly The illiterates are more. and illiterates are who are literate. >> Okay. So literate illiterates who is is. a very very very very. ignorance is a bliss sometimes half. knowledge is dangerous all these words. Why do we use this for all these.
purposes? So that is where we have to. see that capital preservation. right from beginning right from. beginning even in your business or even. in my business we should take out some. money put it aside you know let's say in. making investments into startups okay. that's good you know that will create. more jobs you may make money may not. make money the secondary. >> that happen only when we have that okay. clarity. right now we are launching a fund and we. are investing in startups only because.
we know uh important. You had a chance to touch the cash. So my grandfather. absolutely. mentally.
and the discussions that they do. colle Huh. So the moment I understand money. dynamics again dynamics.
that will create a different. personality. Right now I knew when I. started my business we were group of. friends who started end of the day. but at the same time. right now when when we have launched the. fund also our intention was there are. many startups or many founders who have. a great idea. >> but they're not able to find a right.
pathway to get into Absolutely. So then. I decided okay. >> either cash or kind. >> either network or uh anything anything. from my network if I can deliver exactly. >> yeah sometimes network. exactly so something we can actually do. through our fund is something we'll do. it that's the reason we calling it as. raw fund. >> that is very noble thought very very. noble thought and second thing if you. look at it. entrepreneurial energy.
okay we have solar energy You know you. have uh wind energy, you have uh you. know gas energy, you have different. types of energy, you have electricity. All of these if you look at it, if you. use one energy which is right now there. but not people are not talking about it. is entrepreneurial energy energy neat. beautiful. flexible in a in a proper manner channel.
>> that energy will become the biggest. energy India needs right. >> entrepreneurial energy is the energy. India needs. Every entrepreneur creates. 20, 30, 50, 100 jobs. That is what India. needs. And India jobs. Jobs. If India gets jobs, fantast. people like you who are doing this. excellent job, you know, of. entrepreneurial energy, channelizing. entrepreneurial energy into business. Fantastic. >> Thanks a lot, sir.
I'm requesting you something on record. So apart from. we also giving small. what we are already looking at us. >> we'll we'll find out those good mentors. like you. >> who can actually help us out 10 hours. per month or 15 hours per month if you. can actually give us 100% startups.
so if we can connect you with them it'll. be a great asset for them also. absolutely. >> they can't purchase your time Wherever I. absolutely agree with you wherever I can. help and thanks a lot my interest is. always to help helped is a big part of. it because I also was able to reach this. stage because people help me 100% sir. >> okay and that is what you have to give. back and I give back to society is what. the best thing is your time okay second. best is you know money third best is. service okay that is how it is.
>> right sir and. We'll. get get to there get get to that point. also. Sure. couple of. you you have a lot of information. working structure and all. So it was a good. but what if viewer has this doubt. Okay.
Mhm. Zagel share example. and. purchased first. day [clears throat] not even. day one. Okay. Okay. Okay.
Okay. one week. Okay. Second case, what happens after a company is listed. on a on achange exchange starting. right. Okay. >> So, first of all, company. money. objects. Okay. I am raising this money. for these objects. 1 2 3 four objects.
Okay. [snorts] Then final exchange. Okay. And then it goes to Sebi and Sebi. will approve. It will give us a card and. we will go to the market. Okay. >> Market will approve. We will have lot of. investors who institutional investors. mutual funds. you know HNI and then eventually public. will approve retail investors. Okay. All. of these people will get shares as per. the ratio. Let's say 1x subscribe.
everybody who has subscribed for let's. say somebody has 100 shares 2x then. there is a formula okay also you know. multiple times and then it will go by. like whether you have more than 10 times. like hours was subscribed you know 17. times and 13 times 13 times overall 17. times on the QIB space okay so. >> 13 times if you have put in the Okay, if. you have put 13 bits, maybe one bid will.
get selected or if you have bid for like. 1300 shares, maybe you will get 100. shares. Okay, and you know there is. little bit now concept change but more. or less this is the case. Okay, >> first let's say I am I went for 100. shares 100 shares a lot. Okay. Now that. means money has got debited from my. asbby account to the bank account for. for easy common understanding and now. shares a demat account.
now 100 shares I have got okay let's say. zagle got listed at 200 rupees. >> shares when I sell the shares somebody. has to purchase. >> so shares will go to his demand account. it will get debited from my demand. account to wallet demat account. Okay. 200 into 100 shares 20,000. less brokerage. you know 100 into 200 plus brokerage is.
what he will get. Okay. So this is what. will happen. Okay. Now. >> again it's like shares are exchanged. shares are exchange money is. transferred. It has become a very. seamless beautiful concept where this is. done seamlessly until now billions of. trades happen every day basis. Okay. And. if you see if you see this concept let's. say for example you have after apply. price was 164 200 rupees make 36 rupees. gain short so because of that you will.
have attract short-term capital gains. tax okay so you have to pay that. short-term capital gains tax okay now. the second scenario you said okay now. again you bought back okay let's say 200. you know. 240 rupees key again your same process. will apply correct you money will get. debited from your account too so you are. because you are purchasing this time. money will get deducted from your. account you will get the shares the. person who has bought okay or per person.
who has sold from his account shares. will get debited and he will get the. money okay so that is what the simple. process if I am buying. >> money will get debited from my account. shares will get credited if I am selling. shares will be debited money will be. credited That is how the process. >> So in both of these scenarios, not even. a rupee will hit Zagel's account, right? >> Not even a rupee will hit Zagel's. account. Zag Zagel is trading there and. Zagel has to pay by you know trading. listing fees and Zagel will pay the.
listing fees that's it to the exchange. that is other than that Zaguru Zagle. whatever it is raised in the IPO in the. IPO that is what Zagel so for the. viewers to understand I just wanted to. make it more clear. Okay. Correct.
Market. But next. is. it could be a QIP process. What is QIP? Q qualified institutional placement. So. what I can do is that I can go and you. know raise another round in the market. I can place new shares new shares I can.
place and but this time when I'm doing. raising more money this is not open to. public. Okay. This is only open when. QIP it is only for people who are. accredited investors. Okay. So concepted. investors certain net worth they should. have so much of you know net worth then. only they can apply in the qualified. institutional placement. Okay, there is. where you can go like for example. Zagalis we raised something about 663.
crores first time we raised 594 cr. roughly 600 to 700 roughly about 1200 80. 1290 overall is what we. >> but the second time when you have raised. it is not through the uh normal. >> public public it is straight away it. went to qualified institutional. investors who you know and they have. gone ahead and applied for second. No no no no no up to us but QIP enter. the process is called QIP otherwise you. can do rights issue okay rights issue.
everybody who holds your shares will get. the right to apply for shares next time. next time. you know various processes are there. okay so QIP is a very normal regular. process another process where promoter. can offload his shares. >> exactly secondary secondary. promoter will offload that X number of. shares. So I want to offload is there.
you have to you know do it. It is. percent. but it has to comply for you know with. some rules rules you can offload you can. promoter wants to sell you know x number. of shares you know worth so much you. know to the market 2% 3% discount to the. market price or sometimes 5% to the. discount price you know it is bought by. other guys. >> so what if I ask you.
of course of course what if I ask. because there are good numbers and. there's a huge marketity. investor. Yeah. Very good. Very good question. Beautiful story I'll. tell you. Okay. Uh this is a year of. 2022. >> Okay. >> My director Aesh Pandarun. Okay. Is the. founder of recycle. Okay. And and you.
know one day we were sitting we were. contemplating between two thoughts. >> One thought was mand sheets were there. for private equity who who were already. telling us that we want to invest so. much of money in your company a term. sheet return term sheet. Okay. >> Which would have valued us at roughly. about 9,000 crores. Wow. >> Okay. And plus we would have got like. about $250 million in the company. Okay. that time. >> for the expansion and all it'll be. >> for the expansion and all whatever.
>> and then you know and Abbe told me why. do you want to go for private equity. again because private equity there are. some regulations so you can't and they. will tell you every time you have to you. have to do some business you have to. take approval from them lot of those. things lot of those uh uh you know. issues are there. >> should multiple board. >> multiple board people also they will sit. on the board they will ask for a board. seat they will do all of that so lot of. those things are. only 440 companies.
>> in the last 15 years. So from 2023 okay. when we applied for uh this thing and. you go 15 years back which is 2008. >> only 440 companies had gone public. >> times 15 years only 440 companies he. said how many fintech companies are. there in entire India who can go public. Okay he raised a very important point. He said private equity anytime you will. raise you will go you will do that but.
opportunity to go public and that to a. fintech company that too from Hyderabad. Now that to be you know one which is. like homegrown company where you have. not taken private investment from. anybody and you are going into public. and raising money. you tell me how. credible it is. and I I said you know this is what we. need to do because if it is only you. know 440 companies which have gone in 15. years then that means you know public is. like very very and discerning public.
public is always very very smart at you. know and I thought okay this is a best. opportunity opportunity but similarly. you know public is like little bit more. aware these days to look at companies to. decide that okay whether this companies. you know how they are doing what is the. future and I realized that opportunity. okay private equity%.
especially in this thing I have to take. the name of Mr. Shesh Morti okay. excellent company secretary helped us a. lot in this process who because I was. thinking whether you know will we be. allowed to go public not allowed to go. public. beautiful explain that we can go public. we'll do like this and touchwood. everything went on beautifully and we. were able to go public so we were helped.
by lot of you know bankers who but the. point is that the point which a raised. Okay. Which was that how many people. will get the opportunity of ringing the. bell at NSE. >> Crazy. >> That's that's a different first person. >> Yeah. Only 440 companies had gone over. 2023 to 2008. So and and you know after that 2023. there was a huge huge unbelievable last.
two years too many too many. So that. opportunity. really wow [laughter]. you're active investor. I left. I never entered into stock no just play. with that listing. okay I'll not keep investing listing. gains there are. yeah and you will get a lotment also.
chances increase so that's a that's a. great So e process that's why I decided. to s that's what I that's why I decided. to go ahead and uh uh you know play in. uh uh you know go for public market. instead of uh going for uh you know. private equity or other things which was. a great move. >> of course sir and e context closer again. for the viewers to understand. >> uh because I come from a finance. background and I understand a bit of. corporate law and all.
so just in case viewers. How trustworthy should a company be to. actually qualify to be a sebi or I mean. listing worth company. it goes through a. major filtration criteria major and. major filtration criteria. It is not. easy. We think you know we have built. this company you know we are doing up a. year I was in about 370.
in revenue 370 cr so okay so we have to. go to Bombay we'll meet you know maybe. 10 20 30 people. you know billions of dollars fintech had. raised okay [snorts] and. what we realized is tight slap across. the So, oh my goodness, >> we invested in this company. What. happened to them? We. big fintech company that tango. Okay,
because of that. news they said what is this you know. tomorrow you will also happen like this. So it become there are multiple. criterias and first thing is your. secretarial record. So. >> okay then your accounting books. So okay. your auditors have to look at it. So. there is lot of work which is done. You. do all of that then you know there are. merchant bankers with you and there are. bankers with you. So they all bankers. will go through. So they will have a.
team which will go through your books. which will look at this all of. everything. Then we'll apply to sebi. Sebi will take about sebi is. extraordinarily good in terms of their. softwares etc. They'll put all of this. document into the software and it'll you. know detail means details will come out. of there. What is it? And. this is okay. Okay market you have to. sell your issue also no. >> you when you go to sell the issue is it. easy.
you go there first of all SAS fintech. company SAS lot of investors don't know. except people who are like in the SAS. side they don't know much about this. [snorts] sain sain. to understand SAS because SAS is not a. very easy understandable. you know SAS has become very famous 3. years four years back it was not that. great in the last 10 years it has become.
you know evolving so. to get the first institutional investors. or initial investors how was that. factory. story. very good. business. beautiful okay and sir you know we you. know please.
we we want some commitment and they will. not say anything okay they will be very. happy very nice on your face you will. feel okay presentation beautiful. presentation next minute 100. they will not do that what they will. they will say you know later on. no they're saying no they will look at. later once it gets listed they will see. so we we it took us some time it was not.
easy that you know I had thought that it. will be very easy because we already had. term sheets. priity so it is a well-known name but. too much too much too much it took. little bit time for us to figure it out. and then you know one great investor you. know first time when my MD went and uh. you know to pitch him he immediately. said you know I want to commit 100. crores. fantastic fantastic 100 crores commit so. this guy is a you know income.
then they we came back they said no no. no he is only a chennai okay who is. committing 100 crores I want. institutional investors institutional. investors will not you know issue will. not be done. >> so this is told by se no this is told by. banker that the one who the one He's. pushing us. He's saying no other. investor will invest money unless and. until they are an institutional. institutional investor. Then we are. again man what do we do? So valuation. will you know.
you know this when we went about 3,000. crores is what we thought. Okay but. eventually we went at about 1,500 cr. valuation which was like you know not a. great valuation for a company like ours. So. Exactly validation. we are going because. that was the thing but we got market cap. 2,000 cr and then it went up to about 8.
9,000 crores market cap then again it. has come down but again it'll. eventually it'll again pick up and you. know go into again you know this thing. So the point is. >> that your story is not over till it is. over. Okay. You have to continuously. pitch hard hard. You know another thing. what realization once you are in public. >> you have to be in a constant sell mode. while you are building cell mode that. about your company okay to people so lot. of people we go to some corporate so the.
moment they hear zaggle they are very. happy oh I hold your shares you know I. have invested in your shares and so. that's a great starting point we are. able to quickly convert okay similarly. when we go to you know funds we go to. and tell them that okay this is what we. are doing this is So a process is not. one time over. Okay. It is not easy. See we have to preserve.
the capital also. Capital preservation back of the mind. simple thing. How do I make money for my. investors? I feel bad if somebody loses. money as I told you. I feel very very. bad that okay but you know point is I. have to detach myself okay sometimes we. get affected okay but we have to detach. ourselves and say that okay as we do. well in the company automatically. everything will get corrected process. and I'm I am totally on it right now.
zone that okay I have to build another. you know 3 4 5 billion company so if I. have to huh. >> amazing sir so $5 billion we have to. make the company and we'll make it so. one of the dreams. lot of people when they are doing this. we I have also made lot of mistakes okay. you get two sets of advice one one set. will say don't do this you are being. seen on XYZ LinkedIn.
social media. who has not seen at all this will say. what are you doing you're not present. anywhere you are like you have to. present you have to you know talk you. have to sell you know all of these. things will they they will say. So we as promoters sometimes we don't. have the visibility. >> So we get lot of confusion what to do. Okay. A process a process is not a good. process. Okay. But one has to undergo. the process. So.
social media. like there is heavy scrutiny. Anything. you do anything. Okay. That is the trouble of public. market. But then that is knowingly that. we will be in market we'll be like this. and there will be people who will write. lot of see but when the price goes down. people will write about you. although they will write everything. possible about you. When it goes up. >> they will praise you like that. So we. have to distance ourselves and.
continuously build quality business. That is our focus and that is what we. are focusing on right now. listed companies founders. at times. they'll give us a lot of conditions. correct they talk about numbers and it. doesn't make any sense doesn't make any. sense if the founder of a company is. coming to our show they should talk. about numbers actual things.
because see one way it is also. educational so you look at people who. are going public they will learn from. this they will hear something which is. possibly usage to them so like that we. have to do we have to spread the you. know. and and people should learn from it so. it's a it's a dog eat dog culture so we. have to just you know be we are in the.
race and as I told you also I have to. undergo a change mentally okay because. lot of people tell. Nothing has changed in you. You are the. same old guy. So we were able to call. you then. We are able to call you now. We are able to do everything. >> You've been available for everything. Yeah. Yeah. I mean I didn't know how do. you manage your time. what we are understanding and realizing.
okay and question is simple thing is for. me also my top objective is the amount. of money which I can make for my. investors. Okay. The amount of money. which we can make for our business, the. amount of money which we can make for. ourselves. >> as we run the process. Okay. All three have to tick mark. So if you. do two out of three, you are zero out of. three. If you do one out of three, you.
are zero out of three. So you have to do. all three. So that's a process and we. are all learning and we'll go hard in. the market and you know move forward. >> And I had another curious question. uh. listed. public realize that it is not making any. sense for them to invest. price. What is the effect on the company on the. financials? Nothing. >> Zero. So trading is completely separate.
No issue and whatever is the trading is. outside the in the marketplace. So. company. What happened to the shares? It is like circuit breakers. So 20% then. 20% then stop loss. Good companies rebound. >> Good companies lower circuit. Good. people look at buying it. Okay, that. this is the opportunity to buy. Okay, because I don't trade for last you know.
about 20 years or so. I have not and. stocks learn and trade chain. I invest. through mutual funds and other things. But generally people look at that. opportunity. Oh this is a good. opportunity to buy. Okay. So like that. So that share will bounce back you know. a little bit you know. you know what I. also controls the price reduction. because. yeah because you know let's say open.
price somebody can artificially bring. your price down from 100 rupees to 0. Okay. So. If you remember there used to be a story. about Reliance shares, okay, where. Dhubayani had a beer cartel, okay? Beer. cartel, they were constantly selling. shares of Relanso. Reliance price was. coming down every day. It was coming. down down down down and down down. Okay. Then Durubayani being very smart and.
resourceful, what he did was he started. buying the shares. He arranged some. money and he started buying the shares. Then all of those guys were caught. Okay. So after this this is like about. you know. 40 40 50 years 40 years and good. >> and sei today it's a very principled. market. So they put in a circuit. breaker. Okay. So you can do go down 5%. you can go down 10% you can go down 20%. But not beyond. Okay. So that is a very. very beautiful you know thing which they.
have brought in and similarly going up. also up. stock will go up by 200 300% in a single. day. Okay, se here will not allow that. If it is like you know 100 rupees you. can grow go up to like 120 in some cases. they allow little bit more but still a. controlled so that market is you know. nobody takes too much of benefit of. others is the concept. Got it sir. Got. it. Got it.
Nation level we keep talking about. trillion economy right. many politicians many economists also. are craving for it including me. Of. course of course of course. So but what. if we just. because you've been looking at that kind. of a data. >> maybe. top one or two% of the Indianreneurcess.
[clears throat]. everything is visible. process. What does India need. >> to actually uh achieve? Okay, 10. trillion economy achieve what does India. need right now from today? >> Okay, >> so $3.8 trillion to go up to 10. trillion. Okay. >> Almost 3x. >> Almost 3x. Okay. 2 and a2x. So,
>> so for it to happen like that. Okay. How. many years? >> Okay. Are we talking 10 years? Are we. talking 20 years? Are we talking more. than 20 years? >> Say 5 to 10 years. >> So, within 10 years 3x you just imagine. that uh it is not that easy. But what. are the things it has to do is you know. number of industries investment into. industries number of entrepreneurs. number of businesses. >> have to increase 10x.
>> okay every year the you know like for. example China economy exportled you know. it's like everybody goes China is way. ahead of India so if India is to grow. you know to to that level what do we. have to do we have to make machines. internally we have to have those silicon. wafers internally Correct. >> We need to have chips. I'll tell you one. single example I'll give you. >> If somebody was to bomb TSMC, >> okay, the you know in Taiwan.
semiconductor company, okay, if they. were to bomb that company, >> one single company will destroy destroy. at least one and a half trillion from. the GDP. >> Oh, >> okay. That is how the impact would be. you know that one single company will. because they may they are the Taiwan's. Taiwan is like a hot bit for you know. the all this so across means across if.
[snorts] you look at it the chips are. you know they are the biggest you know. in in the world because of their chips. this is what will happen so m you know I. was in a class uh in ISB just about a. couple of days back and professor you. know was telling is you know one. particular story that saying that if if. China was to invade Taiwan, okay, China. was to invade Taiwan, all US has to do. is to bomb TSMC [laughter].
and because Chinese know that this will. happen. They are not disturbing. anything. They are not invading Taiwan. Taiwan is separate. So you think about. it small nation like Taiwan. So India. will have to have many such nations in. the country in the country and we have. to do lot of see make in make in India. or made in India you know should not. should not be a slogan. >> it should be a behavior and that. behavior how do you bring that behavior.
will take little bit changes so that's. why I'm saying look at the government. support which is given by China. >> what are we doing. >> how much government support do we give. to entrepreneurs. You know how do they tell that okay. wamshi you know you are doing roto talks. this is fantastic why don't you think a. national scale okay you know what do you. need to make it a national scale okay we. will give you so much loan at this price. you know this at this price you create. more employment. >> where is that happening. >> so that has to happen so money has to.
come in from government but how will. money come in from government if. government stops giving this freebies. government stop this they can invest. that money into industry industry will. create more jobs. More jobs means more. employment. More employment you know. means that they more per capita income. will get generated out of that. That. means more money in circulation. More. money in circulation and automatically. GDP G&P both you know gross domestic. product will GDP also will increase and.
our you know GMP will also increase. So. this is what we need to do. So we have. to entrepreneurial fire. that fire has to be lit and we should be. told that. businessman chore [laughter] that is how. the concept was business. because we are you know part of. Britishers you know philosophy okay we. were always told very simple thing told. me businessman okay that is from there.
>> we have to give you know gorov. Okay, that means they are pride. Business people are pride of the nation. concept that we are you know these. people are the people who will take. India to maybe number two economy. Okay, if not number one number two economy. because number one is at about 33. trillion now. Okay, >> that is what we do. Entrepreneurship. anidi should be celebrated. Entrepreneurship is should not be.
treated as uh as as something which is. like you know not good. They should. really really accelerate and. entrepreneurship accelerate. If you set. up this company in India we are going to. give you A B C D E F all of this we'll. give you please set it up. You know you. tell me what is what is there in the. world which is not in India except you. know raw materials you know let's say. other than raw materials you tell me. what is it that you know we have labor. we have about you know 8 and a half cr.
you know youth who are unemployed so you. know put them into put them into so. India is becoming more convenience too. much convenience okay you'd use any of. these you know quick commerce companies. you want to order something. >> you know we have to grow from that. >> we have to become like okay we have to. put money in industry and manufacturing. manufacturing has to be our base and. huge incentives should be given. >> if we give incentives people will misuse. it too okay.
>> industry. >> industry will misuse it I say focus on. those people who actually make it. successful don't focus on people who you. know maybe they take some money out or. something leave them you know look at. this grow it grow it grow it Our. software development or software. companies. >> Absolutely. Absolutely. And because. there were incentives tax these. companies to make. >> absolutely tax holidays. Exactly. Same. thing is not happening in industry. The. industry they have to give you know lot. of and we have to become um you know.
somewhere we start we need to start. exporting not services. >> Okay. We are known for giving services. wherever services wherever my my. [snorts] point is in AI. Okay. Today if. you look at it artificial intelligence. law India should have their own model. okay India can easily afford hundred. billion dollars so okay you know the. amount total amount of dividend which is. paid by all IT companies who they just. take that dividend and put that into you.
know put that into AI AI automatically. and thousands of cr is given as dividend. but you know our companies also have to. think through that we have to put in. money in R&D and R&D. asset asset also So R&D there would be. growth there would be opportunity there. will be like so all of this and then. youth you know youth is a main focus and. you tell them show them this okay that. there is this industry why don't you get. out you know onto this industry and. today look at t-shirts. >> look at you know various materials.
everything is getting imported where. where where are we manufacturing in. India sir huh so and because cloth R&D. cloth cotton we are still in kadi cotton. you know concept people have come into. performance materials. Okay, you wear a. t-shirt, it will automatically detect. the blood flow and tell you that what's. wrong with you, what so we are moving to. that stage. So we have to somewhere I am. not saying that we have to shed legacy. but we have to somewhere embrace.
modernism okay and go all out in the. market to be able to create absolutely. cutting edge products which people will. say the the world will say you know we. want from India but of course this is. too much of slogan [laughter] but I'm. telling too much of reality. Google. GDP how is it. how much is spent on. almost 30 to 40% of the amount is spent.
on freebies. >> freebies. >> in fact more than that also if I'm not. wrong. it's definitely alarming it's I I'm not. against it or we are not against it 2%. 3% or 4% or 5% if at all they are able. to push towards the startup. >> correct. >> the biggest investors are govern. Absolutely. Absolutely. So, so we have to do all of. that stuff which which we policy makers. Oh yes. Yeah. I asked this question of that why.
are they not investing their you know. dividend into this. I you know I had a. word with Amitab Kant and I asked him. this question that you know why can't. they put that? He said absolutely you. know they they they need to do that. India has to come up with that policy. But you know India is also a very large. country very divisive you know divisive. politics so those things so we have to. somewhere at least. top 10% you know in terms of you know. people net worth they have to come. together once they come together.
even the shareholders are also will be. happy. >> if the company grows so today AI today. look at it what is Elon Musk able to do. >> you know what is some of the you know. Sam alman able to You know like this. they are like you know you look at. anthropic you look at open AI you look. at you know all of these guys what did. Microsoft do Microsoft took money and. put in AI okay open a $50 billion is. what they've invested gutsa okay India. needs bravery and guts to be able to put.
money there but we are too guarded to. and India to grow I think we have to be. a little bit more open up but you know. I'm too small a guy to you know to. lecture on on this but overall. Makes sense. >> There are many large companies who are. having tens of thousands of crores of. cash in their bank account. >> in their bank accounts. Absolutely. What. is Yeah. Yeah. They should do 100%. I'm. with you totally on that. >> Nation. See, think of three things. >> Energy from nuclear.
>> Okay. >> Water which is under ocean. I wanted to. ask you this question because the other. day when you were mentioning what are. you betting in the next nuclear energy. and water. >> sky sky sorry. >> okay so what I'm saying is you know like. uh sky is absolutely open and different. space you mean space when I say space is. what you know skyroot comes to my mind. but [laughter]. >> but you know but even.
good so you know the way uh spaces. opport opportunities to do space. Think. about you know setting up a data center. in space. >> Okay. >> So you know there is you know. interrestrial you know network which you. can put up in space. Okay. Think about. you know what is data centers are are. extremely electricity consumer. They you. know compute kosu they require too much. of you know energy. Put that underwater. Okay. Set up that entire thing.
underwater. You need thinkers who will. think and say okay if I'm spending. 50,000 crores on this it's not going to. change my balance sheet. we don't need two A's we need you know. hundreds of A's hundreds of B's hundreds. of C's you know to be there who are able. to you know build very very large. businesses and that is what will take. India to the next level look at you know. nuclear energy you have small nuclear. reactors very very small you know which. are like just provide energy to your. homem M.
>> okay there is absolute opportunity okay. but we have to go beyond okay similarly. of course you know India would have lot. as opportunity. will not be ready for it. >> correct correct also that nuclear is. something you know which is also a. little bit tough thing to manage so you. have to but you know R&D scientists if. you put lot of scientists into this. >> something has to start somewhere. somebody has to. yeah 100% If they are if they are.
willing to do it everything is possible. I fully agree with you that is the that. is the. >> more about entrepreneurship but. sure postgraduation. start next. >> so postgraduation father said. postgraduation compulsory no chance. >> no chance no chance so he said either be. out of the house or [laughter]. in. he made me sit and explain why I have to.
do studies studies. postgraduation complete because. postgraduation minimum so okay. postgraduation we applied for colleges. then I did my MBA from for school of. management so completed from for school. of management and while studying for my. Delhi Delhi school Delhi. Delhi.
uh it's like in Kutuben cliff okay. >> okay south Delhi side and what happened. while I was in the this thing I started. a company okay. already. just like you know momentary business. okay. after this entire you know flipflop in. the share. We don't have to do things for the sake.
of doing. We have to do things for the. longevity. and when I go it is a legacy my legacy. is therecept. was the thought. SSL. limited company and a limited company I. ran it.
for two years. So while doing my MBA MBA. start and I did very well that company. went up to you know about 105 crores in. revenue okay and great huge success and. then we sold that company to another. Chennai based company. what do you get you get like sometimes. of your profitability.
that is how it was and. you know I and and I tell you. stint at for school was a great and. great extraordinary and extraordinary I. made some of my best longlasting friends. okay and from them I learned a lot I. learned lot of my life there but then I. skipped one part of the journey which. was my college. >> and then I went to uh Delhi University.
to do my BA economics. So my father. helped because father's uh friend was a. professor. I got I scored very good. marks. I could have got into any school. any college but my father said you know. uh HGTB Kalsa College was the Delhi. University College. He said this is a. good college. My his friend was the head. of the department at that college. So my. father helped me you know he said okay. join this college. Don't go for other. colleges.
I said okay so father you know. but there I met my I'll tell you my uh. best friend of one of my best and best. friends so Samir na okay and Samir nay. he showed me luxury of life and. >> he was one guy who had a car at that. time he had a membership at Roshnara. club [snorts] you know he had 50% off at. le meridian hotel. >> So he showed me the life and I tell you.
and without me ever feeling that you. know I am from middle class and he is. from rich class. that you are middle class and I am rich. class and he he my. very very good friend and very very good. friend and what I realized. Good quality about him was he will talk. a lot.
Okay. Purity. discussion purity. Purity to I learned a. lot and how to be dignified, how not to. show off too much. What lot of learnings. were there and he would come to my home. I would go to his house and I he taught. me lot of things of my life. Lot of. things of my life. Okay. And in that uh you know process I.
college Delhi University College I got. into you know I was the economic society. president for the entire university. entire university had only one economics. honors club I was the president of the. economics honors club and mandal. so all of that so it was like a golden. period golden super golden period. a golden what was the club about sir? uh. this was all economics economics club.
where people will come we'll all get. together and we'll discuss about uh. various uh subjects so microeconomics. macroeconomics so economics crazy topic. to be learned crazy topic crazy topic to. be economics so. uh you know from from share market. politics you know to economics and then. doing well in economics all of that I. did okay and and um. >> finally passed out and by then.
and education has no value in India. Okay. Education is only it will get you. an entry. education you are from IIT you are from. IM you will get entry okay that okay. that you are you will in. okay you will get performance will. sustain sustain you. certificates.
absolutely skill set too plus what all. learning we learned the world. So for me. my days in Delhi taught me so much about. life. okay life meaning what is high what is. low how to be away from you know all bad. habits so I don't drink I don't even now. I don't drink I don't smoke I don't have. any bad habits bad habitu because of my.
mother father my mother father always. taught me those great things so And also. my brother also similarly no bad habits. zero bad habits so same my. brother-in-law. and I tell you one of the learning. statement. in India if you don't drink you will not. make good friends [laughter]. this is now. hard hard realization hard realization.
same. Dr. Both of us don't drink. Okay. [laughter]. At least I don't even eat nonveh. because of you know that you're. automatically. smoke. So but similarly you know four school of. friends who Asho Abdulu they would eat.
lot of them all of them would eat nonveu. except nits bi other than him everybody. would eat non veg but both of us would. so you get over a period of time you get. cut from the this thing so my learning. initial days learning from daily set to. okay then how I moved into you know. realizing the value and I'll. important aspect. one of my very good friends good friend.
So. okay so two three times. fifth time when you know. one day or the other. if you have to pay. Inside I felt very bad. >> Okay. Because see we are middle class. Okay. We are not like rich.
class but I had enough money to pay for. 10 to 20 visits to uh you know visits to. five stars. I I could have paid. enough money. I felt very bad. where you live. Okay. How do you how do. you where do you live? How do you live? You know, what do you drive? Delhi taught me. Okay. That.
>> there is how to be street smart. >> Street how do you Yeah. How how you have. to be you know really street smart. How. you have to work hard. like Bombay. If you work hard you will. reach places. >> Okay. Question is that you have to work. hard. Okay. That is the most important. thing. Work hard and but hard work hard. difference. Okay. 100 and 100. Okay. Second thing what it taught me was very.
very important thing and. that your mental capacity is to be 100. times of your financial capacity. Mental capacity strong you should be. able to withstand. >> I am internally a sensitive guy. Okay. internally. and I got abused multiple times people. was because of your.
region. abused. you know. gang. and. you know my most special. friend. he's no and every year every every day I. remember him every year I remember him. first.
oh man. single sentence made my life I love him. to death he's so he was my best buddy. you can say you know two hearts one. heart Two people, two people is how. typically they say. So and. loyalty. What is loyalty? Loyalty. So. all these qualities over a long period.
of time slow. So like this was when he's standing next. to me he's telling me you know. we'll see we'll fight a character great. and great because personality. is a rebel a little bit of rebellious. attitude. [laughter]. attitude so rebellious attitude.
okay or this is what we are taught this. is what you are told is something which. I you know generally don't like but I've. mellowed downh. and a lot of adjustment. So general. nature. you know leopard cannot change its spot. So you know so that is that is how you. know it is the it is the case and. learnings very self-aware always careful.
about you know my what I'm doing one one. underlying. so that softness I never realized in. So that was part of. in the personality when you are hitting. you should hit and you know kill it. So.
you know like there is lot of human. touch. So that also I learned to so I'm. learning now. >> even now. >> even now I'm learning. Even now if you. see first time in my life I have hired a. coach for myself. Coach for. >> coach for myself. Okay. I hired a coach. you and now I have completed two months. >> What does he teach? I mean what does the. coach teach? >> He teaches about you know overall uh you. know how as a promoter, how as a. businessman, how as an indust.
what all should I do? What are my blind. spots? What are my weak spots? What are. what is it that I should learn? What is. it that you know I should look out for? So you know at the age of 55 I am. learning these things. I'm I'm putting a. coach to teach me. >> Not just that being vocal about it is. great. After 40 45 they leave all inhibitions. and everything is open. but not everyone is like that. How I.
feel but and see he's a great coach. He. is a very celebrated guy and you know. he's teaching me. how to deal with teams inside, how to. deal with teams outside, how to do. business and but I am a fiercely loyal. guy. Team it's life spoke to them. Yeah. Yeah. My team is my life and without my. team I am zero. Okay. So that is all and. and I'm very loyal. If I'm loyal to. someone.
but I will never leave him. Okay. That. is my loyalty and that could also be. because. loyalty is like [laughter]. is a very very big commodity. So that is. and. process. mental capacity. Okay. >> Majority of the times people are not. successful. Why are they not successful? >> Okay. They give up. >> Yeah.
>> Fast give up. Okay. People look at gratification, instant. gratification, instant gratification. Great to instant gratification. They don't have tenacity. Okay? They. don't have that uh ability ability to. walk through. Okay? That. Sitha would not have been Sitha if she. if she would not have walked through the. fire. The test.
it was a test. So business will give you. multiple time test. So whether you are. rich, whether you are poor, whether you. are great. and main point is that as you progress. your pain increases, you go and check with business people. He's always with God. God doing doing. this this this this this.
so many and so many temples who so many. this things he goes why. you tell me why at a point of time. >> absolutely that there is a supreme power. there is a superpower there is a power. which is beyond us we think when success. touches us. we are very good we are great we are. this nobody can beat us But there is. always a superpower you know above us.
beyond us. You look at Adani, you look. at you know Amani, you look at any any. big industry. as it taught me every day, every month, every year. we are myopic myopic, you know, we don't look far, we look. very close, you know, immediate the. next.
important but For a founder, we have we. should have the ability to see vision as. well as execute action. >> Okay, vision and action should. correspond because if he's a visionary. parallel gundals in this, that's why I. love Steve Jobs. Steve Jobs, so Elon. Musk, they like they have seen vision. and but they have executed also and they. were paranoid. They were not liked. people and yes, Steve Job was not a. liked person. Neither is if you ask me. neither is Elon Musk a very liked person.
because they demand accountability they. demand. So these are all concepts parts. of you know life. Yeah observer once you observer. already starting that you're you know. psychology. So psychology is also a very. good and I I read and I love to read I. love to read people books and uh. behaviors.
So much yeah much needed much needed. that is why. that okay we'll do what personalities. they are okay so 10 minutes. this is a personality so I change gears. >> somebody is very fancy I will talk fancy. to them somebody's like a child so for. another beautiful you know. quality I'll tell you this is a quality. which I'm proud of. >> okay. >> so I can talk to to a 5-year-old I can.
talk to a 95 year old. Okay. So ah. quality I like about very few things I. like about myself. I'm sure and and this. one thing I like that I am able to talk. and you are great listeners. you gave good time to everyone to. understand how do they think and what do. they think and you you played well with. their topics also correct and. [clears throat] that's great but I. you know I'm not a great listener I have.
to improve and I have to improve a lot. in listening ability and but maybe I've. got this compliment five six times time. So maybe I'm improving. [laughter]. that you know I improving but listening. ability India. >> one of the most underrated underrated uh. ability and listening okay if we start. listening we'll improve so much and so. much. >> all over youngsters everybody wants to. make an impact they think loud is good.
but loud sometimes is not good. Actually reaction response. absolutely just wait and then respond. >> while somebody is speaking. Okay. Somebody is speaking we are thinking. what to answer. How I did how I did with. you while you were saying I'm already. you know trying to answer. So we have to. >> wait. >> so power dynamics one of the thing is. listen. >> keep.
>> do not reply for two or 5 seconds. >> and then you reply the impact is very. powerful [laughter]. >> greater. >> and what is your weakness spending. >> uh weakness is discipline. >> we spending law. >> spending law oh weakness in spending is. like shoes. >> oh. >> shoes I will have Maybe. about. 200 250. Overall, overall.
but still I will have like at least. right now at present. I would have about uh maybe at one time. I had about 250 but it even I recently. moved houses so I disposed of lot of. them but still I would have about maybe. 80 85. Ohh so and shirts. So shirts als. yeah yeah shirts [laughter]. >> you had eight shirts but you wear only. six to seven shirts and uh I will have.
right now maybe about uh 400 shirts one. day. 400 no see that is the problem. >> I could connect with that point. So you you explained something in in. some panel discussion if I'm not uh. >> over to you. >> Uhhuh. So basically what happens is sir. uh how do I how do I explain why do you. buy shirts? Okay. For example, okay,
you are also sure that you are not going. to wear it. Maybe one time, two times. Why? Why do you buy? Okay. Maybe [clears throat]. you want to try something new. So that. may not work out with your personality. but maybe you know let's let's start and. you know try this.
with me 100% I for the [laughter]. longest time longest time I always. bought one size lower one size lower and. I think 100%. confidence. at 55 also I think by 56 six [laughter]. you know I will reduce but I you know. but we have to reduce we have to really.
this is a and a great topic. >> to discuss uh health especially is a. beautiful topic to especially of. entrepreneurs so entrepreneurs mental. health physical health because it is too. much of toll entrepreneurship is one of. the hardest jobs hardest and hardest. jobs in life and Because you're playing. with what? Emotions. >> You're playing with mental. Okay. So, emotions who are from heart. Okay.
Sometimes when you are playing with your. mental uh you know makeup also it plays. Then what do you do? Okay. So these are. all very hard topics and you are. constantly in this. am I right? I am not not right. Have I. taken the right step? No. What should I. do? constant thoughts around. immediately.
Why did I do it? Why? Then we also curse. ourselves sometimes that why did we do. this? Why did we do that? And. >> I think entrepreneurship is a sport. >> Oh, beautiful word. Oh, fantastic. Entrepreneurship is a sport uh in which. pain is the only only only gift you will. get. >> [laughter]. >> I read one of your LinkedIn post sir you. were mentioning there that. entrepreneurship is a proud lonely. journey. >> yeah deep. >> yeah it's a very lonely journey and very.
lonely even you will have partners. co-founders nobody will understand your. pain in that is why I always maintained. that I will not the only partner I ever. had in my life was uh TJ Winkage Garu. when I came to India you know I started. a company where he was a 50% his company. was a 50% % partner to my company. >> In fact, I worked for them. Great man years back. We worked for an registration if I'm not.
wrong. Almost 6 months. Fantastic. And a. great great he's a lion of you know a. lion. Yeah. He's a totally different he. lived life king size and lived he's. living living life kingsize and king. size. a great man like that. But. >> more about entrepreneurship. So. postgraduation as you postgraduation. life went on beautiful and beautiful. daily learned all lessons, good lessons,
bad lessons, all of that. Education will stay with you. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Money may come and go but. education once you have learned it's. like a bicycle. Similarly education. that's why very very important. okay this is life whatever is the worst. case scenario you are already built that. okay education you will get some job.
something like that I so then I went to. idea was to go to Wall Street Wall. Street I got uh you know even before. completing my MBA I got a offer from Um. uh Price Waterhouse Coopers and I joined. [clears throat] Price Waterhouse Coopers. PWC join my mind once entrepreneur. always an entrepreneur. lifelong business compulsory business.
very tough to leave business and get. into a job okay so then I realized that. okay it's a you know great opportunity. and back of the mind and day I always. wanted to do business. >> I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Okay. Now early I told you the sixth. seventh class. that I have to become a businessman. because I used to see you know.
and you know. extremely close friend of Gunagrushna. Okay. >> Okay. And because of that I I would go. to his factory. I will do you know in. his factory. So a lot of time I spent in. his factory wage factory I spent lot of. time and wage was always largearted man. largeed and largeed and a big interest. list a time. Okay. So then um for me I I.
I thought this is a great opportunity. and I learned you know so much uh uh you. know from them and in the process in the. process of learning learning process. back of the mind that I have to be a. businessman I have to be in business I. have to be a business. [laughter]. manifestation so power of manifestation. is too good and that's what I manifested. that I have to be in that already. businesses seventh class I you know knew.
and. so we used to go to paper mill we would. go to his soda factory you know then. I'll go to my dist my mama's. distribution business so. east side business. education education education whether it. is my brother whether it was we had a. uncle called Mr. Subaru, subhogu son was. you know vin was INIT Delhi. So we had.
closed all academics and my father side. whether you take uh you know KL Krishna. whether you take Manm Singh whether you. take you know all of them academicians. All of them you know economists and. great economists. Okay. These are you. know Bab de Bruy was my uh professor who. so all of these guys economics economics. economics money money. So [laughter]. so we got into economics of money. So.
I got somehow I realized that okay I am. built for business. I'm built for. entrepreneurship and I don't want to. report to anyone. Okay. So I realized. that if I I have to be my own owner and. realization that once you start a. company you are no longer independent. You are no longer on your own. Okay. You. are again all your employees. responsible. All your employees you are.
responsible. All your stakeholders you. are responsible. Everybody you are. responsible for. uh you know for their. wellbeing, for their business, for their. everything. And ultimately, you start indirectly reporting to them. [laughter]. while while it may not appear to me. You become like okay.
your back of the mind little bit, little. bit it is there. So these people work. for him. That is not a that is not a. correct concept. Okay. They are employees. You are. employer. No. No. [laughter]. >> You become an employee in front of in in. hand of your employees. So that is how. it becomes and it's a it's a great. responsibility. >> PWC. >> PWC fantastic and out of the world. So.
you know at the age of 29 I retired for. about 8 months. Retired. >> retired I totally left everything and. this is after PWC this is while in PWC I. took sabatical. >> and 8 months I you know just didn't do. anything because for me I wanted to take. little bit of syasan story. when I at the age of 29 I had. >> you know the best cars. Oh,
>> best cars and right from Porsche to you. know BMW to Mercedes all of this I had. >> I had I was in Manhattan. Okay. And this. this particular incident happened in uh. in Chicago. Okay. >> Okay. So Michigan River this. [clears throat] this you know happened. there and if you see. >> a realization and one day I was driving. from a place called Molen Molen to. Chicago. Okay. only.
was driving and suddenly I realized what. do I have to live for. Okay, I have car, I have a best friend, I have this, I. have that and everything is there and. what do I need to you know but now do. and I had so much money back again in. the bank that if I did not do anything. okay I could have lived my entire life. >> Oh crazy were you married by then? >> No I was not married. No. Okay. Well, friends is a topic I cannot. [laughter]. Yes, of course. Of course. My best.
friend lives in my house only. So, >> so so so like that very difficult thing. But uh and very everything and I decided. that okay this is the time that when I. have everything income you know the. journey should end. >> Okay. And how should it end? that I. should take dika and get into become a I. was spiritual heavily spiritually. inclined. So for 8 months I did not do. and then I realized now I met you know. somebody and you told me that no no no.
no you have a full career ahead you have. to get back into business you have to. and I wanted to do entrepreneurship. wanted to do business. >> so then I flew down to you know India. started a company and there is. whereantra was born. >> that is how. >> soantra what wasantra. >> and up see this is year 2000 okay in. 2000 time. com was a big thing. Okay. >> As a part of price water scoopers and I.
used to certify companies that their. processes are efficient to uh their you. know they they can deliver goods. So. process audit you know part of the audit. it was that you have to go and you know. audit and I was a consultant so I would. go to the company I would do the audit. and I'll you know certify them that I. was seeing that you know like a company. called buy.com. >> okay. >> it was it it had nothing very few things. it had and it had a billion dollar. valuation. >> okay so.
business I have to do this why don't I. get into something like which is in the. internet space okay without realizing. full internet. company called domain name Shamshan.com. Shamshan Shamshan Shaman. graveyard graveyard grave sorry. graveyard grave. [laughter]. so that you can meet your afterlife so. then half.com.
multiple companies and then. company domain name to start business. Finally, we had to take a call which one. to which one to remain which one to. kill. So finally okay let me do business. 2000. you know limited slowly it went on to. becomera industries limited because.
broadbased.com. was not liked that time it was this so. it was a great business that I'll do. this business but I'll tell you people. used to laugh. price waterhouse consultant. So it was into brand merchandising brand. merchandising. So I will prepare this t-shirt and I. will or sure to and I'll embroider it or.
print it or whatever and I'll give it to. you. So that is the merchandising. business and I somehow I don't know if. you would have asked me 6 months before. also that will you do this business and. I would have laughed. months. and I would have left it. I would have. said crazy fellow. and I got into this business which is a. gifting business which is a. merchandising business and you know.
one more cement factory. I don't want to. open another chemical factory. I don't. want to open a steel factory or cement. or chemical or woods or anything. >> I wanted to go into something where. nobody else has gone. >> Right. >> Okay. That is the that was because I. thought that this is a business where we. can build big way. weekend because there. is no organized play.
and I tell you the beautiful story and. how I how I lived those days I can't. tell you I worked maybe 20 22 hours and. sleeping sleeping on the desk. >> okay on the desk and the desk was there. I will not go home okay I'll sleep on. the desk morning I had a bathroom where. I could take a shower I'll take and I'll. start work. So we had a 5050% partnership.
Okay. And he had a he has got a. beautiful fivefloor building in called. TG mansions. So let's why don't you come and. he asked me why don't you come here and. we'll do you know business together and. he's a big man and also a very. large-hearted man. So then started this. thing and also indirectly related to us. So we said okay let us start and.
1000 space. and before our office got made up they. had some open space. [snorts] where desks etc were kept and I. started working like that. So. that. so I used to tell time will tell time.
will tell time will tell. a highly highly qualified man for me if. let's say this business. okay. I'll get you know another job you know. I'll get offer from Mckenzie I'll get. offer from you BCG. any anywhere because I was already a. consultant already successful consultant. I did. big and they're also at a very high. grade they were so impressed with my.
with my ability to build business that. they said okay multiple projects and my. senior senior person client he will not. be able to explain to the client client. Okay. And I will button him. I will tell him. no no no no. See this is what he means.
accent. Okay. So accent is like Indian. accent. Okay. American. So it will. okay. So they will always white skin, brown skin always that gap was there. Slowly I realized that client after. third, fourth time he realized he will. not talk to my senior senior partner. Where is Raj? >> I want to talk to Raj. Okay. So get me. and I will explain to them you know why.
this will be helpful to you. Why if you. put this then pre-sales my job was. pre-sales. My job was to do solutioning. for them and I will tell them that why. So uh you know in in one company and. [snorts] which I started with about $20. million as a uh contract to I took that. contract to $400 million for. >> huge contract and a multi-year contract. to 400 million because I told them what. will be your savings okay. >> and I tell you one one day it is little.
bit horrifying incident also because old. ladies and they will what they will do. is invoices come invoice accounts. department invoice. invoice. Okay. And second. Okay. So, so that that gets printed on those. disaster center. Okay. So that at any point of time it is.
a system of record. So let's say there is some you know. balancing they have to do or something. they have to do. It is it is on the real. sun. And uh those roles you know basically. floppy disclos so it is it is okay. >> and they would come and they will. sometimes hold hand and they hold hand. are you taking away my job. and they were like in their. >> in their late 50s 60s are you part of.
the team which is going to bring in. efficiency. >> are you part of the team where you are. going to remove 200 people from this. can't it was for Indians [clears throat]. we are emotional people okay I used to. feel hurt I used to feel you know how do. I answer okay how do I tell her that yes. I am going to take away your job okay. and and but uh but uh. business is all about profitability.
business is all about cash flow business. is all about you know how do you grow. and you grow while making money sir uh. nature won't kill uh uh what do you call. evil, it'll kill the weakness in you. >> Yes. Beautifully said and beautifully. said. It will absolutely it will kill. the you know weakness. So so for me it. was very very tough to want to explain. to them. Sometimes I will buy uh you. know bagel su or walosu. I'll just buy a.
full pack and give them. I was earning. so well and is so well. My billing rate. to them was about $1,100 a day. >> Okay. to $1,100 you know per hour was my. billing rate and day. So imagine how. much company was making on me. Now I am. away from them. Now it is you know 27 26. 27 years. So I can tell you openly that. $1,100 per hour was the rate on my 1. hour. I used to sometimes feel guilty. and piss. and 20 minutes if I spend 15 minutes if.
I go while going and coming back. So you go $500 gone $500 gone. So that. is I used to feel guilty about it and I. used to feel very bad that okay but I. can't tell company compan is for profit. or company has to do so all of that and. sometimes I'll tell my partner you know. don't you think we are charging. >> you got to earn for me you got to earn. for yourself you got to earn you see. that person there you go to earn for. them you tell me so many people you have.
to earn for. [laughter]. so that was but great great this thing. and I learned and there is what I. realized is that I am not a natural. saleserson who. >> I am a uh I in given a specific space I. will be able to sell very well is what I. realized okay you know like if you ask. me to go and sell like openly door to. door I may not be able to sell well but. if you give me an opportunity okay. within like give 10 people I'll be able.
to sell very. 50% partnership. How did you own the complete company? >> Yeah. Yeah. So what what happened? >> Was it a buyback or what? >> I'll [snorts] tell you I'll explain to. you and see initial days it was like all. uh I was selling uh baninlu whatever you. call it. I'll go to urbindo. I'll go to. doctor I'll go to these big companies. and I'll talk the language of a. consultant because you know I was coming. from uh PWC. I had good command over you.
know the work which I do and. What are you doing? Come join us. Okay. Exactly. They saw that. Okay. He talks. intelligent. He talks this thing and we. were. we were selling 20 million to 50 million. to you know $400 million. you know 50 rupees mug 200 rupees 100.
rupees t-shirt. So but but I loved it. I. loved this business and I thought okay I. can make up. >> it's your first love business is my. first [laughter]. sorry I'm sorry also of course the entra. also was like a good one and of course. we so what happened is I did you know. business with uncle and uncle also. realized and he's a large-hearted man as. I told five six times. >> so he told me in 2006%.
want to you are growing very nicely why. don't you buy back the business from me. so buy back the business. how will I buy back what will I do how. will I do okay he said just rent and. electricity for this many years and you. buy it back I was so happy I was. just very Few lakhs very few lakhs.
probably in you know 150 200%. we would have to you know give that much. but he realized he showed large he told. me. and you know I'll give it to you at this. price and it was beautiful then. immediately. and I bought it and placed it to a. private equity guy at a much higher.
price. revenue. >> uh up revenue I think was about uh 48 cr. okay it was about roughly about those. days those days and it was a good. business you know good uh this thing we. were doing and we thought uh din and we. will take it you know global and idea. was also to take it global and then in. the in the process yantra you know it is. like the only spokesman working for you. 24 by7 is a promotional product. [laughter].
That was my tagline. And so I did so. much innovation. So much innovation in. different. cabin has that cabin has that. Oh, father's jawalu award because father won. the jawalero award for the thesis which. he had made. Okay. on you know wish.
he got a jawal. rotating so I you know for me it's very. precious because my dad winning a javalo. award and from you know minister actual. prime minister was supposed to give it. but uh because of he was not available. that is why it was given by agriculture. minister but that's a big thing and a. big thing so I have kept it in my cabin. it inspires me that you know and my. father's story I told you that. So, so. from there at 7 years at the age of 7.
years he ran away from his house and to. what level he has built and what level. he's a [laughter]. he's a positive re excellent man and a. great man and a great man. I just uh you. know love him till now and even every. day I remember him you know I have his. >> he saw your success right? Yeah, he saw he saw part of my success, but I would have really liked him to.
come and ring the IPO bell. >> That would have been great. But I you. know my brother my brother-in-law. all of them and but I saw Avin Shantaa. uh MD and CEO okay his father came and. you know he rang the bell which was. equally satisfying for me because Avin. has been with me for so many years and. has worked very very hard and 14 15. years he has been with me working and. shoulderto-shoulder he has been working. hard with me.
>> and uh so his father came and also rang. the bill which was like a big feeling. you know equally Good feeling is what I. would say. >> Right. Right. Right. Andrivriv. premium price. >> A premium price. Of course. Of course. Premium price. So, and we sold it. while kitchen about. initial 12.5%. >> Okay. Then later on little bit more. >> and uh and like that we did 2010.
48 50 invest that time dollar was $40. about 12.5 million they invested. >> and I huh. little money uncle was he was like great. and great he gave it a jackpot. life you never No, what seems good at. this point of time is very bad later.
point of time. Okay, maybe I would have taken the company to. some literally different greater rights. Okay, because we were the only company. in India with an American mindset. Okay. >> One one of the guys European guys who. came to buy us out okay was willing to. put in top money and top and literally. top money to us saying that I want to.
buy this company. >> Let's say if I had not sold the stake to. private equity private equity I would. have sold it to them. >> I would have made like our time I would. have made about 250 300. Oh my god. Okay. It went in a different direction. So I. left it. So. >> politics. >> politics too much politics. I should not take their name but I'll. tell you that they were debt funders in. form of equity. >> Oh.
>> they were mindset low more debt to less. equity. So which which which was like. not a great. you understood. it's a success no good successful. company went on right now also it is. going but you know for me it was like. our time. like for example if you have to let's. say go to sky. >> okay you have to go to let's say.
>> and you go to 50,000 ft and and come. back but you have you see the potential. potential to reach one lakh feet that. not being able to reach that one lakh. feet is it's painful painful private. equity they should be like a pat on the. back. >> pat on the back absolutely absolutely. pat on the back. this character was a specially different. kind of a character but it's okay but. see I've dealt with lot of private. equity folks some of them are very good.
majority of them are good folks so. sometimes you will get folks that's okay. >> [clears throat]. >> Just. what is. what would you answer for a lady. >> who is running the house? Okay, husband. 1,000,000.
report. Okay. End of the month. Okay. Automat. of this. >> and corporates I think we give them. cards. Okay. This is the big best way to tell them. Okay. We bring in visibility. We bring.
accountability accuracy. >> and and we bring in uh you know accuracy. >> and we also bring in uh accountability. for overall of all your business spends. Whatever spends you are doing you know. we will bring where what how when all of. this together we'll show you in one. piece of almost like a almost like a. dashboard where you will see that this.
is how it has gone where it has gone. what has you have what have you spent. all of that we sit on top of bookkeeping. okay from us it will flow to bookkeeping. okay that this is money spent by so in. your company you have like let's say 100. people. >> each one of them you can give them a. card. Okay. Now. 25 members 25 members. Okay. So now. there what are your needs? Let's say for example each one of them. will go out to or like you know we'll. meet people reimbursement.
These are the bills. Okay. You will not check the bills. correctly. You will understood. Exactly. So we bring in that transparency. Okay. We'll tell you. So mean imagine chain. instead of 25 if it is 25,000 people. >> it is 2,500 people then what will you. do? >> Okay. So you have to bring in that. accountability, visibility and the. flexibility to pay and also you need to.
make sure that uh all of this is being. done in a manner in which it is not. hurting you. >> Okay. it is not hurting the company. So. that is also a very very big uh you know. concept. So what we do and 2011 low we. started the company you know Zagaloo. okay 2011 low is when I thought okay now. as I told you with this investors we. were going through issues I said okay. I'll start another company and I started. uh.
this I rendo you know they were both. both were doing you know simultaneously. and zagle.in Then we started and we said. okay what we started off was with a. prepaid card prepaid card. they used to think this is mobile. recharge okay that was thinking that it. is a mobile recharge any so we figured. out that okay Zagal it's a you know we. will do prepaid cards those prepaid. cards can be used for people to spend.
money okay. >> how majorly corporate. >> maj majorly so one thing we have always. been B2B. B2C. always throughout B2B. Okay. First thing. merchandising business gifting business. So we said instead of you gifting cups. or mugs or you know bags I will give you. a prepaid card you use the prepaid card. wherever visa master card is accepted or. rupee now is rupe.
So wherever it is accepted you please go. ahead and use the card. Yeah, gift volunte. automatically it will be spent. So these. were lot of benefits which were there. Okay. And then there were lot of tax. benefits also which came in. Then we. thought okay you know the same same. principle of what we were doing for uh. uh you know employee gifting generally. it started first thing it started was.
employee gifting. Okay. So company 400. members birthday you want to gift. something so instead of you know. bringing something goods what already. you would have like all those goods so. why do you want to give one more bag one. more this thing we said why don't you. give this card. okay because this was a very beautiful. thing okay and then they realized that. >> this was done in 201. >> 2011 okay 2011 and it's a lot of. innovation we did and lot of hard work.
we did because the the card was card was. could be accepted only at select. locations because commission okay so. we'll say you can use this card only at. uh uh you know let's say Dominoes you. can use it at uh lifestyle you can use. it at some of these places. you use the card there. he will eat pizza. >> he'll go and you know watch a movie. watch a movie he will go and buy.
something from you know these places We. said okay so these are the things which. you know generally you will spend let us. start giving it away. >> So this was a very good business and a. very good business and initially we. started selling it and uh immediately. there was like traction. Okay. So first. year or second year or third year it was. beautiful and beautiful. Then fourth. year or fifth year again it grew but it. grew at lower speed. Okay. Then we. realized what do we need to do? Then we. again innovated what should we do? Okay. So we brought in another use case. So.
Avin was running majority of the. business you know till 2019 ain was. running it and I was helping him okay. and and he was like a great great CEO to. you know understand and then he was. coming from a payments background he. knew gifting background rewards. background was great for me and payments. I was learning in the in the process and. uh that's how we started we started. selling gift cards so gift guards you an.
employer is there employee well done pat. on the back incentive long service award. okay and then we started going on and on. and hundreds and thousands then lakhs so. then millions of cards you know started. and then you know we grew from a very. very. small base of four cr we went up to you. know 1 800 odd kes of you know GMV in. first five six years okay then we.
thought Okay, this is great business and. then 2019 we came in and started putting. a software layer on top of it. >> Okay, >> and why [snorts] did we put a software. layer that okay right now we are. focusing on employee spends. Okay, >> why don't we move to business spends? >> If we move to business spends the market. will become huge. Okay. So this was. already 2019 and we thought that this is. a great uh uh space for us to move into. you know businessman. So and that's how.
we want to experiment Samu and then we. realized that okay what is the what is. the good thing which is doing very well. First thing we understood was like. channel incentives market. Okay, channel. incentive market was a very big market. and any you take any brand for that. matter. Okay, whether you take C8, you. take MRF, okay, they will have lot of. their dealer distributors. Okay, dealer. distributor. Okay, generally. you will do say okay you do this much.
target I'll give you this you do this. much target I'll give you this okay we. started coming out with schemes okay. this you know if you sell two tires for. example I'm just taking as example any. of these companies you sell two tires. I'll give you a 500 rupee card okay so. you sell four tires I'll give you 1,000. rupee card you sell 10 tires I'll give. you this thing. you know they while distribution. management system it'll come down to our.
this thing and they will say okay. they'll say that okay you now need to. give to this person this person this. person you know this much this. and this is what we did and this hit off. like big like unbelievable unbelievable. we started getting orders in Kores okay. like you know like 50 cr 60 cr schemes. all over and till today we are doing. that so This got like very good traction. and we did extraordinary business. Then.
we said okay now this we are doing then. what else do we do? Okay this is a. business which has picked up it is going. on its own what do I do? So then we. realized that maybe there is. uh one more thing which was called tax. benefits. Okay. So India rule uh earlier. rule earlier rule was that every day two. meals make 50 rupees per meal you will. get sodex I can't take sodexo name.
[laughter]. their competitor I'm sorry. >> so but but uh you know but what we did. was that okay this is the you know I. mean. employee we are giving him you know a. card a reward. reward card. Why don't we put another. wallet another wallet? We will call it a. meal wallet. >> In that meal wallet, we will put this. money. So, he will keep the card more. with him. The more he keeps the card, he.
will see the name Zagalakra. So, Zagel. will become a reminder to him. Slow our. brand will get built built built built. and it is a easier cell. So we will go. to any company we'll say see you know. two cards three cards four cards so one. card from this company what is the use. you keep our card one card we will give. you meal benefits a reward system meal. benefits system and then if anything. else is there that also we'll give any. we started off like that okay and that.
picked up like crazy and today I have. more than 1,600 customers. >> okay 1,600 corporates who take that uh. you know meal card from us. Okay. So now. what has happened reward? Okay. Then in between you know there was. like new new tax regime old tax regime. So new tax regime. we'll see yeah. you know meal cards meal benefits well.
you can choose either of Tony and in the. latest 2026 you know March they have. reintroduced at four times the value. okay so that has that has grown the. business like anything yeah 26 launched. 2026 just March April April so there was. this old you labor code simplify. So. because of the labor code simplification. it is like but the business has picked. up beautiful and beautiful. So what we.
do and u so so first the cards started. 2011 okay where we started giving. prepaid cards so vouchers so etc all of. that then in 2019 we put the software. layer and we started the mil cardo okay. 201 you know 189 okay then we realized. here that we are giving to employee we. are giving this cardo to the employee. one for reward other for tax benefit why. don't we Go ahead and look at the.
business spends which I said. Okay. So, what are the business spends which are. related to employee? >> Okay. >> What are the business spends which are. related to employee? >> Maybe conveyance. >> Conveyance. Okay. Travel and expense. So, let us go ahead and prepare a travel. and expense. Okay. So, another wallet. which is a reimbursement wallet. In that. wallet all his travel expenses which. will come will come in there. Okay. And. that's.
automatic. or otherwise if it is like reimbursement. then reimbursement. the money will come into that account. Okay. That is what we thought and that. we realized that is a very big business. and this is something which we should. definitely do better. Okay. And then we. realized that it needs a software layer. >> because. approval process conveyance. Okay. that. convey you require XYZ. Okay. So you.
have to travel Poland, you need. approval. So we thought okay we have to. build a software. So 2019 we started uh. you know putting in the software layer. We bought a company uh called click and. pay company. We said okay you know we'll they will. build the software and that is how we. started off. >> Almost all your acquisitions are like. strategic acquisition. in the in our space you know because we. are in and then the scope to grow is.
into lacks of correction. Okay. So that. is what we thought and decided that we. will you know do this piece and uh then. is where the software got built and. today travel and expense low we are by. far the number one okay number one and. we are building now in fact software. just WhatsApp. WhatsApp through you can just directly. it will go into your accounting system. okay that is the kind of innovation.
which we are bringing in Crazy. >> Okay. So now more and more companies you. know they want accountability. They want. 25 members 30 members. Can we also opt. for? >> Yes you can opt. We can we right now we. don't do for less than 200 people but we. can opt for that is special cases of. [laughter]. but we will also. 200 plus better otherwise we are coming. with something called DIY. Do it. yourself. Do it yourself. India.
do it for me. [laughter]. but but I think this we are bringing in. for smaller companies also very soon. >> we'll launch it uh you know we are. launching it with another bank got. >> so then that is how we'll take it. forward sir okay. >> and uh what do I ask you. >> uh lifetime lifetime law you cannot. forget these three principles or these. three quotations like learnings three.
things that you cannot forget and you. want everyone to learn those. >> Okay. Where you came from, where you are, where you will go. >> Okay. Three things is what I will say. are Gandhi G's three bundas. >> Okay. That where you came from, never. forget. >> Forget where you are, never forget. Where you will go, never forget. Okay. where you are going to go that aim. should never you should never and never.
forget that okay because that's your one. is future one is present one is past. >> right. >> okay that's how and I don't put it as. principles but I put it as you know a. way of life. >> super simple no complexities. >> no complexities. >> that's the life science [laughter]. you much more think uh we're not going. anywhere. >> absolutely if you really if you really. ask me. simple line. I'll read it out for you. Okay? If it does not bring you peace,
>> profit or purpose. Peace, profit, or. purpose, please do not give your time, attention, and energy. If it doesn't get you, peace, purpose, and profit, don't give it your time, attention, and energy. >> Either peace. peace, profit or purpose. >> Okay, these are three principles also if.
you look at it. >> Time, attention and energy is what is. there in you. So time is there with you, energy is there with you and attention. is there all three biggest assets. Okay, up assets money though. Okay, there is. zero there is zero money for these. threeables. invaluable, invaluable and. for that if you see you know peace very. important. >> profit very important purpose more.
important. >> right. >> okay so think like that. >> so triple P you know time energy and. attention. >> right. [laughter]. but how did you feel. >> fantastic fantastic beautiful and. imagine and with so much of energy uh. you know way because there is a purpose. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And that is why we were able to. give undivided attention because you. know and for you also you know to spend.
so much of time doing this podcast is. like it takes lot out of you and because. you are so good at you know. in in beautifully maneuvering it and. it's very tough. It's an art. I have to. learn that art from you and maybe next. time when you are doing any other shoot. I'll come. No, no. When you're doing any. other shoot. and I'll see how you are asking. questions to them. >> No, I need a lot of input from your. side. 100%. We'll do that. Thanks a lot, sir. Thanks for your time. All the best.
Thank you so much. Thank you. Thanks a. lot.
