today's guest is an inspiration for all. the men and I mean it because this man. broke all the stereotypes of actually. following what he believes in what he. loves and figured out his way he's the. true example of figuring out I'm proud. to call this man a friend because he's. now one of the biggest content creators. for food in our country is not only have. been the food producer for Master Chef. has not only done exceptionally well for.
himself but his recipes are. incredible and is on to bigger things. he's an inspiration have broke all the. records broke all the stereotypes and I. don't want to talk about his food. personality because that's what he. talked about in the podcast and he also. talked about his love for dacy food he. talked about how anybody can start. making a lot of money in whatever they. feel is right for them and also he. talked about his love for sneakers and.
where he believes is the next big. opportunity so make sure that you watch. this podcast till the end because this. man has opened up about his journey of. your food lab for the first time in the. Indian podcast scene so that's why you. can't afford to miss this podcast sanj. ladies and gentlemen make sure this. podcast you watch it till the end. because this going to blow your. mindan there's a.
there's a dim Sim called edame edff yeah. bro that's the best dim sims in India. like those are the best dim yaa so there. was a time uh yaa I used to go with my. friends so my friends are very rich. Super. Rich so I always has to have that you. know craving.
[Laughter]. and yeah I and that time was not long. back it was like six seven years back 6. years back now how it. feel industry and they know and half of. their staff is like following me on my. platforms bro review must like.
M your review means everything like your. [Music].
I all chicks guys like nicely dressed up. party.
[Music]. rest. [Laughter].
properly three piece suit he came like. straight walking to. us I'm the general manager of this. restaurant and sir I'm a big fan of you. and it's an honor for us to host you and. [Laughter].
because they were they had newly opened. at that. time all right so I want to ask you. straight. away. Chef why why did you decide to do this. like who thinks of becoming a chef so I. was like I must be what 8 n and uh so. for kids you know in India you you watch. Bollywood Stars actors actresses and.
then you somewhat like imitate. them and. imitate for me it was always imitating a. lot of people I saw cooking so whenever. I used to go out to eat with my mom and. dad uh look at the pow baji Wala making. pow baji I don't know but I I wanted to. just come back home and try to replicate. it in my kitchen as a kid at that age as. an eight to n year old so the last I. remember was when I was 12 um I I cooked.
my first pow baji in my kitchen I told. Mom I want to cook pow baji and I want a. few things uh can I do it and she was. really welcoming and uh I cooked my. first pow baji um and I served it to my. family and they really liked it okay as. a kid I always felt that my mom had a. super power uh and that super power was. uh to make people smile with her cooking. so whenever she served some good food to.
people they used to have a good time. they used to smile and I I used to feel. that she has a superpower to make people. smile and as a kid I wanted that. superpower uh you know to make people. smile and when I cooked my first meal. and I served it to my family they were. really happy they had Smiles on their. faces that is when I knew that I want to. become a chef uh when I up was yeah that. was. 12 and uh I started cooking I started. cooking very regularly so at that time. uh I come from a very humble background.
so we used to go to a lot of street food. joints with my dad on his bike me my dad. my sister tripsies and uh we went we. used to go to the pow baji Wala sandwich. Wala and all of these people I used to. see and that was the only place where. you could dine out and see somebody else. cooking otherwise in restaurants people. are cooking behind a wall yeah so I used. to come back home I used to buy that. toaster to and you know I I I wanted the. same knife what the sandwich Vala used. and I used to replicate everything so. that is how my cooking Journey started. and that is when I knew that uh when I.
grow up I want to take the sub. professionally but then think that's as. a kid you had dreams and you wanted to. do something like this but when you get. old reality hits yeah that's when most. of your friends they maybe somebody. wants to become a software engineer or a. doctor or CA or let's say an. entrepreneur yeah at that time didn't. reality when I was in school uh um I.
never liked studying um I was good at it. but I did not like it so I used to hate. math I used to hate science um I I did. not know why we are studying history and. geography geography was sort of. country but Math and Science was. something which I never liked so and I. knew that I was good good at cooking so. when I was in n9th uh so I I I was. studying in ICC and we got an option to.
choose between optional subjects. technical drawing computer science and. stuff like that I took up Home Science. because cooking was a part of it and I. was one of the three boys only in that. section like the whole standard to take. up Home Science all other uh students. were girls and I I used to be looked. upon uh in a very different sort of. sense Home. Science only because of the fact that. cooking was a part there would be one.
practical in a week where I could go to. the schoola kitchen and cook that was. the only reason I took it up so food was. something which I was really close to. when I it came to cooking it was really. really fun for me that was something. which I was good at and sector I could. be good and the others could be bad. whereas in math class I used to be the. last so I always wanted to be first in. what I know uh that I will be good at so. that was the reason I always stuck to uh. you know even even when you got but you.
brought a really important Point okay. and that is you were the only one of the. three boys who took home science right. and that's that was going to be my next. question how did you break those. stereotypes okay up friends like I. remember when I was I think in school. 12th 10 11th or 12th I just wanted to. become Alpha because that's what your. friends want you to be if you want to. stand out you want to be Alpha you want.
to do all boy kind of stuff and even. your parents your relatives everybody. ask you to do this so how did you break. that. lo I was a cute chubby little s. guy I was always like that uh I was. never considered to be very smart and uh. you know one of those guys uh who was. really like you know maybe good at.
studies charming and stuff like that so. I always knew that you know if you want. to shine if you want to stand apart you. have to make something really good about. yourself uh to present yourself and food. was always something which gave me a lot. of Happiness um I was always told by my. uh you know friends even when I started. making content a lot of people pulled me. down um all the kind of choices I made. choosing Home Science a lot of people. said that it's going to be a really bad.
idea because 9th and 10th people are. just going to tell. you y even with food at that time a lot. of people. thought so all of my ideas were always. considered to be stupid and I always say. this that you know if if I'm sitting. here today it's just because I did not. kill all of those stupid ideas what I. had and that is what I always tell it is. kind of like my mantra where I say that.
if you have an idea it's always going to. be stupid but never kill your stupid. ideas because that one idea of creating. a video and posting that on 25th April. 2016 has changed my life which idea a. lot of people thought that it's a stupid. idea but if I would not have kept that. idea alive I wouldn't be sitting here. but didn't your parents say okay the. world you know that having stupid ideas. and then uing those ideas you already.
had this Clarity that you want to do. this you want to become the best all of. that happened didn't your parents tell. you and say. no everything is good you want to pursue. your stupid idea go ahead but this is. really stupid you won't be able to make. money out of it so one thing I've been. lucky about that my parents have always. supported me so I've been lucky at at. that point you know. blessed um but surely this thing comes. like my mom was never questionable like. never questioned me about.
fathers because they run the family they. know. like father was working my mom was a. homemaker um so he always had this money. uh but pressure that you get money out. of this very quickly so the day I. started content creation he told me that. however possible uh I'll fund this for 3. years so if this works in three years in. 3 years you continue doing this.
otherwise you can keep this as a hobby. but you join me or do something of that. sort because just before uh you know. content creation I was working with my. father that's a long story we can bring. that up in this conversation but then. yeah it was a hard time uh I was in a. very low phase of my life when I started. creating content but what why did you. join your dad when you know all of this. so um and what what were you doing like. with your dad so uh just to give you a.
backstory um I told you that I was never. good at studies okay U even like my 12th. grade marks were like really bad U but. when I did my hotel management uh my. first semester results came out and I. topped the whole uh class sweet and uh. my mom was called to the uh college to. you know actually uh meet the counselor. and she was like your son stopped the. whole section and so she told my. counselor that you know you might have. messed up with the role numbers but then.
three years straight all six semesters I. topped my my I topped my dissertation I. got the best academic uh achiever award. I was given the dean prize and that is. where I also knew that when I was. talking about that this is something I. was good at so if you uh you know take. an exam for math I'll fail but food I'll. ace at it I knew that and immediately. after that I got an opportunity to be. the food producer for Master Chef India.
season 4 I was working with like big. chefs like sanjie kapor vikas Kanna. ranir BR and that was like a big boost. for my career in my initial phase and. just after that um I was thinking what. to do I wanted to go to London to study. further and at that time my family uh. was facing a big financial crunch my dad. had a few problems and I could not go. abroad at that time I did not have the. guts to take up a student loan go and.
study I I was a little comfortable at. that time to be very Frank and that is. when my father was wanting someone uh to. be with him and that is when I decided. that okay I'll join my dad and I'll work. with him let's see what happens so I. gave up my cooking thing and I joined. him my father has been into Imports of. metal working machinery engineering and. all of that stuff I've never understood. it I'll never understand but I tried to. for one and a half years I I did try my. level best I gave in a lot of time I.
used to be in my factory all day long uh. but one fine day I told him uh while. getting back from the factory that I'm. not happy because I'm not cooking so I. need two days off in a week and I took. those two days off started creating. content weekends only for 6 months and I. started my page off Food Lab but why. content is what didn't you feel like. that you want to go to uh a hotel or. maybe work at some rest rest or join. some like other people and become and.
start your journey of becoming a. celebrity chef or something why content. and 2016 was the popular. cont reach somewhere or maybe Achieve. Financial Freedom so it was not famous. at that time but I did not have many. options I still had to go to the factory. for 5 days okay so I could not quit that. completely because my dad would have. been alone in that factory so I did not. want to do that in the first place. secondly uh I had options of starting a.
blog not really good at writing uh I. could start an Instagram page but it was. not that big yeah how big it is right. now um I just tried recording a video it. turned out to be really good and that's. what struck me that you know I can. create videos I can just put it out on. my Facebook page people will watch it. I'll keep in touch with my cooking and. I'll also do my factory thing so that. was the initial thing it was not that I. want to become a content.
creator because. options so I just started creating. content to stay in touch with cooking so. that is how I I made my first few videos. and journey sh I always think you know a. lot of people say that everything needs. to be planned you watch a lot of. motivational videos you will tell people. planning but it's not always that you. know plan things work.
out I always wanted to be a celebrity. chef I wanted to be famous I wanted to. cook but I never knew that it will. happen this way it just happened by the. way just a disclaimer for everyone I. never say people to plan and do. stuff there are a lot of motivational. there are a lot of people do that I also. say the same thing pretty much yours. like it's it's like you can never start. with plan but you need if you want. scaling that can be done through. planning right so if you are looking.
forward to start you godamn need to. start because first video you wouldn't. be at this stage but now I'm sure that. you must have have like you must be. talking to your team or maybe your. family that okay this is my plan this is. what I do next because I already started. so scaling planning is important. starting that is what is important but. okay that's now we're talking about. business and scaling and I want to. understand the money part of it. H how as a chef or as someone who loves.
cooking can start making. money so there are a lot of ways like. you said you can join a restaurant uh if. you have a little bit of money you can. start your own Cafe you can take up a. job uh there are so many Avenues which. are open right now that chefs can not. just be a part of a restaurant but a lot. of different things uh there are. celebrities who need personal chefs it's. a big big market right now uh host. hospitals need uh chefs for their.
patients to plan their meals so there. would be a nutritionist there would be a. chef planning the patient meals so there. are so many different Avenues open for. people who want to enter The Culinary. World also um with content creation Now. an option for a lot of people it's a big. space a big audience food is such a big. category for a lot of people to watch. content digitally and this is a big. option right now but uh to start with. for me I never wanted to get into a.
restaurant in my initial phases because. I did not have that much experience at. that point of time and I did not have. the money to do it um I did not want to. take up a big loan or you know something. of that sort when I was uh back then in. 2016 that was that was again not an. option so this was something which I. could do with very less money that is. why I took this up okay so let's talk. about your money then okay like how what. was the first time when did you make. money what you started 2016 yes for how.
long did you keep creating content. before you actually got your first check. so I created I started creating content. on Facebook and at that time in 2016. Facebook did not have monetization yeah. I was not AB okay huh uh and uh for my. first five months I was funding my own. content um but luckily I I crossed about. half a million followers on Facebook in. my first five months sweet um and at.
that time the category of videos what I. was making I was one of the Pioneers to. make short form tabletop content uh. digital food content in India and I was. really good at it um and that is why a. lot of Brands wanted to work with me um. in fact in my first initial month so my. first month your food lab hit a lack. followers on Facebook in first 30 days. and uh that is when a company a big huge. company which is not a big huge company. right now but in back 2016 it was a big.
company they approached me they wanted. to buy uh my content uh and they wanted. to fund the page and make it their and I. they wanted me to just create content. and which to which I said no and I did. not have money to even create my content. I used to rent out cameras at that time. uh but I still said a no and why did you. say no because that deal was not that. good for me I knew I could do much. better there were a lot of Brands who. came in the first five months as well. who wanted to butter uh till date in my. 5 years of content creation I've never.
done a butter deal never uh always said. a no okay um if I like a brand if I like. something a lot I'll never charge them. I'll do it for free but that is my will. to do. it uh but five months uh in September. 2016 exactly 5 years back I was. approached by a fmcg brand uh an oil. brand and uh it was just a Facebook. message that we want to work with you I. was like somebody's just having fun with.
me and. Ma videos I quoted them a good amount. for four videos um I was trembling while. I was quoting because are you. comfortable sharing the first amount you. got like the first money first check. first check for four videos was 1 lak. 125,000 plus taxes ooh 1 lakh 125,000 in. 2016 or was it 17 then 16 16 itself 16. only in 6 months in September 20. um 16 yes I I think I got that mail on.
20 20th of September or something and. that that's when you had 500 K follow. yes yes yes and now what all are the. Avenues for you to make money as a. content creator so right now um your. food lab is present on three major. platforms YouTube Facebook and Instagram. okay so YouTube uh uh monetization is. big for us because I do a lot of content. and my viewers ship is quite quite big.
so we make a decent amount of money over. there Facebook again there's ad breaks. monetization and on Instagram we do a. lot of brand deals in fact on all three. platforms we do a lot of brand deals um. with fmcg brands with Appliance Brands. and a lot of different other brands too. and uh we make money there as well uh. like how we were discussing that you. know you can scale at this moment you. know you think about scaling so I'm. thinking about scaling in a lot of. different Avenues um I am I am prepping.
and I want to uh go into virtual. education uh where we can teach people. cooking virtually creating a community. online how to create good beautiful food. videos like how doing that or it's in. planning stage it's it's in planning. stage and we'll start doing that in 2021. itself um I'm I'm positive about that um. also uh it comes to my mind when I'm. talking to you we'll surely do d2c with. yl uh so there are a lot of avenues.
there are a lot of avenues which once. you uh have established yourself as a. chef as a content creator people know. you and you have some kind of. credibility because of your work it's. not just because of that glamour or fame. or uh name but it's just because you've. been consistent over these five years. just because people love your work and. love what kind of work you're doing the. quality of work that is what gives you. credibility that makes sense but. now that you're talking about. credibility becoming a celebrity chef I.
want to know your philosophy over how. can people stand out in your career. because okay correct me if I'm wrong I. can be completely I can be completely. wrong and I might I might sound stupid. here at the end of the day somebody is. cooking that food making that food and. you are showing that food there's no. personal value there as of now. right there be 10 people making the paji. how can you stand out out of those 10. pajes so I first take this question just. from the chef perspective okay not.
content creation nothing so my first. year of content creation I used to only. do recipes which are very unique um. which was like kind of my f of doing a. lot of fusion food okay a lot of you. name them name a few um so my first. video was a pizza Dosa now it's a big. thing in 2016 it wasn't okay my second. video was a paji brushetta so I used to. do these kind of videos and these were. videos which recipes which you won't. find on Google search so that was the.
kind of idea that I want to do very. unique recipes Innovation for a year I. was doing that and I used to get a lot. of messages from people that I want to. see a chili paneer recipe I want to see. a butter chicken recipe and I have. actually leged replied that there are. like about 10,000 butter chicken recipes. why don't you go and you know look up. for those exactly your question is what. I'm replying but one message from a. viewer uh and the reply was that Chef I. want to see your chili paneer recipe how.
do you do it and how will a yffl video. look when you are doing chili paneer so. that is when I realize that food always. has a. personality so if I am giving my butter. chicken recipe to the world there would. be 10 million people trying that recipe. in their kitchens but every butter. chicken will taste different it won't. taste like me because someone else is. doing it so food always has personality. it always because food is cooking is an. art um so when it's for survival it's.
just for survival but when you are doing. it for a purpose it is an art and it can. be done in so many ways and people. understand recipes in so many ways I. feel that recipes are guides they are. not something which you need to follow. to the tea and when I have given a guide. to someone people can use it in so many. different ways so that is how my butter. chicken recipe and my butter chicken. video will always be different to the. other 10,000 people doing it and it's. never going to be the same someone could. copy me but that would be something else.
but if someone else is doing it honest F. it's it's always going to be different. it makes sense but what are the person I. want to know for from my knowledge okay. personality now that you talked about. yeah what are the traits of food. personality can you make like one two. three or. five or you can give me like top three. personality traits of a food so one. would be uh you know one would be the. style of cooking how do you like to cook. um like when I'm doing my chart like how. we were just talking about uh you know.
before this conversation that you know I. have a very dacy palette yeah so that is. my style I I I have a dacy palette and I. cook like that so if I am cooking butter. chicken it would be dacy it would be. wholesome it would be you know. comforting that is my style of cooking. so that is my personality one I don't. like to serve my food in small portions. I like to eat like uh serve like how. Indians eat so that is my personality so. that is style of cooking the choice of. recipes the choice of ingredients uh I.
always like to cook with very simple. ingredients what people have because. first I am a chef but then there are a. lot of people trying my recipes so I. like to use what's there in a lot of you. know pantries in Indian kitchens very. simple ingredients that's my personality. uh it's dacy uh it's Comfort it's fun. it's simple it's easy to do so that is. all about the kind of content and food I. do there there is much more to that but. then it be it will be a very very long.
conversation like I was thinking. about because when I came here the first. thing I was thinking or this only like. how can somebody stand out like why. would people follow you at first place. because at the end of the day it's food. let's say you talk about my category. okay there is different kind of. knowledge or maybe different kind of. speaking style maybe there's age lot of. people get inspired because of the age. difference but in you like people can't. make out the age it's at the end of. the now I get like a deeper perspective.
because it makes sense when I look at PR. or I look at manot or I look at my mom. or dad they all have different way of. cooking yes they all have like the. simple difference between my dad and mom. of how my mom you know she mixes. everything p and then use it as one uh. like let's say if she mix if she has to. make cook something she mixes all the. masala together and whereas my dad he.
cooks like one by one by one he'll keep. adding to the recipe so I think that. also can be like a different style of. cooking and that makes sense yes and. also like when you dine out at. restaurants you know you like a. particular butter chicken a particular. dimsum a particular recipe from a. particular restaurant that's the. personality of food so to make you. understand in a very lame and term. that is a personality of that particular.
place otherwise vapa has served lacks of. places why are a few very famous that's. how it is not true a few now that we're. talking about famous vapa lot of things. I want to talk about unconventional. things okay how how can we make sure. that parents look up to these. unconventional careers not look down to. it how what can be done what can you. what can we do because you have been. blessed with this these kind of parents. right not many people are blessed with. this so I think um when you want to.
convince somebody result oriented uh con. you know when when it's result oriented. U it's easier to convince someone back. in 2016 when I started content there was. not enough to convince somebody that you. know that video content creation posting. videos on Facebook is going to be a. career yeah at that time people used to. be like Facebook. [Music]. uh photos. upload so that was Facebook for them I.
made it as my career. so explain but now there's so much to. explain there's Raj shamani there's ran. aladia there's B there's ab and new so. many success stories out there that you. can tell your parents that see this is a. 24 year-old guy who's doing this big ass. turnover who's so famous who's speaking. on so many stages and this is the kind. of guy I want to become it's no more. unconventional now there may be.
something which would be unconventional. tomorrow which then a few people will. come and prove themselves and then there. would be examples but I I guess the best. way to convince somebody if someone's. watching this right now or listening to. us there are so many examples out there. but it's not just that I want to become. this one or that one it's about being. true to yourself because at the end of. the day everybody has a different story. everybody has has a different route a. different Journey you have to choose the.
right route which is the right route for. yourself because you won't be able to do. everything what the other person has. done in their lives you have to think. what's good for you be very confident uh. do a lot of research it's freely. available right now and then convince. your parents. but if you talk to your parents they. look they're like the F it's just a. phase content creators.
one like one time it crashes they all be. jobless so that's why they don't they. don't look your career or my career as. something which is stable that's why. they'll always want you to become. someone who's in a stable career I'll. give you an example from my journey um. when I started off I did not have the. money to fund your food lab yeah um I I. told you that I was renting out uh. cameras I had made these lights out of. ceiling lights Di lights I used to shoot. on my living in my living room on my.
dining table for 3 years so until your. food lab had 3 million followers a. million on Instagram 3 million on. Facebook and uh about a couple of. 100,000 on YouTube I was still shooting. on my dining table in my living room so. and for the initial 6 months I was going. to my factory 5 days a week shooting. content only two days a week on my on. weekends and for 3 years I have done. daily uploads new recipes every single. day new videos every single.
[Laughter]. day r. videos and when I started my content. creation. Journey 25th April. 2016. 85. 85 that when people started to know like. my family my friends that I have started. shooting so your food lab.
a lot of people. told a lot of people said told my. dad you. know so that was the kind of mentality. people had the biggest problem I'll tell. you with people is that they're always. going to judge you on your ideas they. don't know the capability of an idea see. an idea is always small it becomes big.
with the journey it has you know when. Facebook was created the idea was very. small but now it's become very big so. back then it was still small but it does. not mean that an idea which is small. cannot be big so it's very simple at. that time if I would have told. people. fing this is such a big amazing idea do. doing great for yourself after a year if.
we would have met again. or but at the same time when I tell. someone that I've started making videos. on Facebook people be. like but now when they meet me and they. tell me I have done billions of views I. have millions of followers and I I. making a good good life for myself at. that time no one said ekend. Factory to prove myself 85 videos to.
prove myself because I knew that if my. first 30 videos do not work people are. going to tell me that you have failed I. myself will start believing that I have. failed so I wanted to give myself like. three months of. time that you have not failed but. luckily my third video got a million. views and uh yeah yl worked out for me. which video was that it was a no bake.
mango. cheesecake um okay I love mango I love. cheesecake I don't want to talk about. this. anymore yeah but all right so there's a. very interesting that one thing which. you said very interestingly which was no. idea is big and people usually talk. about have big ideas but I feel that's a. bad approach because if you will have. big ideas in the beginning when you have. nothing you will consider yourself as a. failure because that big idea won't be.
that big as it was in your head so you. need to start with small ideas then make. it big yeah because the journey is going. to decide whether anything which you. choose is going to become big or no so. you start with a small idea because then. small ideally you'll have right then and. there to do something let's say your. idea was ke let's start putting videos. up that's a small idea nobody thought. that this can become this big right but. you had a way. if your idea would have been India.
number one or the most followed Chef B. you'll be. like you get start getting scared right. and okay. [Music]. oh want to do. it do they tell you that.
and you know at any phase right now when. people come across I know a lot of. people who used to tell me that I'm not. going to succeed but they love my work. but you know people are like that people. are never going to change these things. around. you the problem with people is that. people think about everything they have. like really big plans but. that's the problem if you want to do.
something start doing it that's the only. way to know that you know if you're. going to succeed or. no. obligations at that time my family was. in a very bad bad phase of uh H. finances Factory.
there was a lot of things which I also. if wanted to give excuses I had a. million excuses at that time I was. really really sad about not going to. London to. study. but but I know that very soon someday. that same University will call. me I know that's going to happen it will. that is how life is people have. obligations there their obligations are.
always going to be. there but there are no excuses that's to. kill all the excuses this is going to be. my second last question to kill all the. excuses what can you and I or people. like you and me can start doing so that. next time when somebody in their house. decides that I want to become I want to. choose something which is unconventional. maybe today content creation is. conventional okay it's it's become a. main thing but if they want to start. some doing something which is very.
unconventional so what can you and I do. together or maybe you can do or People. Like Us can do to make it mainstream. where nobody's looked upon but getting. support from people around them I think. we are doing something in our uh you. know best capabilities right now because. people like us we working really hard we. are not doing it for the fame or for the. glamour but we are doing it for. ourselves yeah like I make content for. myself I am cooking every day I'm happy. cooking always so that is why I cook.
every day I'm making videos about it. because I like making videos and that is. how I am making a good life for myself. and by doing that there are so many. people watching I I receive so many. messages every single day that you know. somewhere or the other yffl videos are. inspiring people so that is the first. way you can do it be true to yourself. and do something which really uh you. know you are into it so I am to what I. do today that's the first thing that's. the start lead by an example yeah lead.
by an example that's the first yeah. that's the first thing second is where. you know like right now when I say. that a lot of people. think but it's not that you talk about. it you tell people because if you don't. tell people people are always going to. think that.
but so you have to tell people that you. know you are always going to be scared. but then you be scared it's it's good to. be scared but then at least try doing. what you do that is how you're going to. know that you know okay what exactly. you're made for and uh slowly you will. come to know time will show but you have. to work really hard at any stage of uh. your journey even now now I feel. sometimes really scared that I've come.
here how will I go up here yeah what's. next how do how do I scale that is when. you have to surround yourself with. really really amazing people who know. scaling better than you you're good at. something someone else will be good at. something yeah meet people I was going. to ask you this. okay what are at any point before. uploading some recipe you were like. extremely. scared is there anything extremely bold. like a recipe which you have tried and.
be. like but I still want to do it um. initially I was not scared with this. thing nobody knew. me sometimes you have to think um it's. not because you're scared with what. people are going to say but then it's. just about it's it's just being about uh. a little conscious about what you're. doing but. going to.
[Music]. betic. recipes I have always been in Mumbai. I've born here my parents have born. [Music]. here being ajabi that you know. but food is something which has million.
a million ways to do and I always feel. that recipes are never authentic. because idea you have eaten it somewhere. or you're mixing two things three things. four things it's never going to be. authentic like how music can never be. authentic. food recipes inspiration and nothing can.
be authentic so a lot of people who tell. me that's such a lovely thought I've. never thought about it like food is. always a discovery never an innovation. yeah it's so true it's always inspired. it's always always. H music be same way this all same way on. that note just telling people out that. what you said is so true that if you. like you're creating content because you.
love doing it and initially you figured. out a way to monetize it make it your. thing and now you're thinking of scaling. same is with me I left my business I. left everything because I love talking. and for me the only way to continue to. talk was social media that this is the. way I can talk to thousands of people at. the same time I can if I didn't have a. social media channel I wouldn't get an. opportunity to talk to someone like you. so I I love talking and that's what I'm. trying to do like I'm talking on.
everyday basis and I'm figuring out what. can be done next and that's what you are. doing making videos of food you're. cooking because that's what you love and. you're figuring out so the my last. question was going to be between you and. your wife who cooks at. home so definitely I cook at home. because my wife is a uh she's a. chartered accountant yeah and uh I. remember when I met her mom for the. first time name.
or so everything was happening or. suddenly and I immediately said that you. know. auntie and there are very few people who. can become a chartered account it's a. very difficult exam to crack and if your. daughter could do that she's very. special at what she does for me cooking.
is always an art it's not something. which. is it's never that and I'll always tell. people don't make don't invol gender. over here it's food everybody should. know the basics for it because cooking. is very necessary for survival y so know. your basics.
AG it's an art if you like it you should. do it if you don't like it don't do it. it should not be a forceful thing for. anybody. especially my wife is really successful. and I don't want her to cook because if. she starts cooking then what will I do.
that's that's so good and I loved your. reply okay it filled me with sense of. inspiration there and I'm not kidding I. got like real Goosebumps when he. saids bro it's so good to say that. because not many people say that it's. such such an instant reply it's very. deep many for many people it would. be for me I don't know why I can connect. it so well but it's a really deep answer. now moving to the best part of it and.
it's a fun segment the podcast is over. imagine okay it's you have to answer. quickly okay okay you have to answer. quickly that imagine if you were not. allowed to do what you're doing and you. were to give a job interview you have to. take a job and do job because that's. Survival so this is your job interview. and you have to we have Googled the most. asked job interview questions and we're. only going ask you that and you have to. answer people are going to decide. whether you're hired or no so be very.
serious I've never given an uh a job. interview this is first ladies and. gentlemen okay so this is your first job. interview. in please you can learn I'm doing. a okay be very serious okay. [Laughter]. you said it was a fun segment bro it's.
for me but you have for me it's fun now. for you it's going to be serious what. your job I'll try to make it fun for. myself okay so the company is which. company do you want to work with ever. Raj Shani Industries oh shamani. industries by the way that's okay. good wow I get FM I work in fmcg segment. I get dropped dishw watch free. endorsement by. all right so first is first question.
very cliche where do you see yourself in. five. years I see myself I can answer. according to right now right you can. answer according to I can see myself. hiring at least about 20x people I work. for me right now and I see myself making. a lot of videos I won't stop doing that. but then yes I want to do big in. d2c what's your biggest strength. my biggest strength is patience what's.
your biggest weakness my biggest. weakness is that I am really. emotional and okay how would people who. know you will describe. you um calm really hardworking really. patient but a little difficult to. understand difficult to understand okay. now who are you after the workout. end I'm still a chef I always keep.
thinking about uh food all the time even. sometimes during when I sleep but uh I. am I am a really good husband um I. always am thinking about giving more. time to pile and uh yeah I keep juggling. in between these things that's not for. you to decide whether you a good husband. or no that we ask her yeah next podcast. is with p p we ask her this question. okay I want to know one thing which.
nobody knows and it's apart from the. food or the business which you. do something that you don't uh nobody. know nobody knows which is out of your. CV or out of your introduction out of. your. interviews um so I I was a really good. horse rider when I was a kid I've done a. lot of competitions um when I was like. about 10 12 years old I used to ride. like 7 foot long horses crazy big horses. and I used to love doing that I always. wanted to own a St.
Farm definitely the last question is if. you were given a chance to become an. executive assistant for someone who. would it be and how much would you. charge per hour like what is your hourly. valued for that. person so I'll answer your second part. of the question first uh I never I would. never. uh calculate an hourly rate for myself I.
don't feel that uh you know you can. judge someone's value by the time that. person gives you I don't believe in that. okay because there would be a lot of. people who could do things in an hour. and the same thing would be done in like. 10 hours by someone else both the things. would be equally good so a few people. take a little more time so it's that's. fine if someone's doing a really good. job in lesser amount of time it's fine. fine so I I cannot uh calculate you know. my worth according to the time I give so.
that is your answer for the second part. whom will I be. um that's a very difficult question. um it's a it's I I can't think of. anybody anyone like Mark zerber or I. don't know sanjie Kapoor or or who's a. guy who keeps screaming this guy Marina. ssmith this Chef I I I I I've always. liked to learn from a lot of people a. lot of people ask me that you know who's.
your Mentor who's your Idol who inspires. you a lot of people inspire me I I take. small things from everywhere so I met. you for the first time I've taken a few. things from you I met any I meet anybody. someone who's not that made that big in. their lives I'll take something from. them so I keep learning from everybody. and I want to be like that I don't want. to learn from just one person I'm not. there's not even one person you want to. no um I I've never been a fan of someone.
I've never looked up to just one person. I've I've never had a. sports star kind of a thing. sport I've always learned from everybody. few traits from here few trades from. there few skills from here there I. always learn to uh you know I I always. like to learn from a lot of people nice. I would have never taken that as an. answer but because it's a first I'll. take that as an answer because it's. it's it's like a new answer because.
everybody has it one. person like and there is no answer and. that's also a good answer for many. people who don't know who their Idols. are because even if they don't have an. idol they can make it big in their life. by just focusing on their craft and. that's an inspiration thank you so much. for doing this podcast thank you Raj. it's always a pleasure talking to you. same here a lot to learn from you yes. and now I can't wait for my. food let's do that.
