Are Mahabharata & Ramayana Linked? Author Anand Neelakantan Explains | FO 90 - Raj Shamani
you have to choose what is right and be. ready to face the consequences of it so. Krishna if you say is a very practical. guy when he wants to run away he runs. if you want to kill bhishma you bring. shikandi jaida cannot be killed Before. Sunset he creates an artificial Sunset. he will say shoot karna when he doesn't. have the but when the Chariot was a. inside the in the mud caught in the mud. and when karna doesn't have the board. arrow is trying to lift it shoot him. he's saying so when gandhari curses he. takes it with a smile he says.
in today's episode we have the author. who created the universe of baahubali. and he wrote all the bahubali books he's. one of the best sellers in the country. who has written so many books and is. famous for his very different approach. because he writes old mythological books. from a different perspective he's. written ramayan From rawan's perspective.
he has written Mahabharata From. duryodhan's perspective he has written. so many different books from different. persons perspective and that is what got. him to fame and now he's coming up with. his new book so we spoke to him about. why is it important to understand all. the mythological stories from different. perspectives as well what is the real. truth behind all the mythological. stories please watch this episode till. the end it's one of the most different.
kind of episode which we have done in. the history of figuring out you're gonna. unlock so many New Perspectives you have. no idea. okay I was going through US research. and we found out. all right foreign.
[Music]. the way you look how you see yeah. there's no religion for us true. we have Dharma dharm not in Hindi Dharma. Sanskrit Dharma. philosophy schools of thoughts. there is nothing called um good or bad.
okay there is nothing like. hero yeah villain. a hero villain concept I mean abrahamic. religion similar. abrahamic religions.
foreign.
[Music]. foreign.
telete is.
the only way um. defeated Bali. um. okay. justification. but this is my understanding and this is. how I have been taught also by. traditionally.
foreign. [Music]. foreign.
foreign.
but he wanted the stone to float. why because he wanted to take the entire. Army. to kill Raven. now this is against nature.
I'm not taking a very today's logic or. anything. um. lord of the Seas. he threatens him he says that I will.
make you he threatens him with. brahmastra saying that either you allow. me. my stones to float. he doesn't have any choice choice. okay.
foreign.
foreign. stories from the perspective of. the pandwas right. before us also Whoever has been writing.
what has happened. I have taken the side of. pandavas. because. foreign.
I mean PJ. masks. we can't think that is a while migiri. didn't think about this and Only We Know. a better plot we are better writers. there is no need to justify it because. he there was. they were showing.
a different. viewpoint. and they were writing for a different. audience not for the fan boys. you tried to justify through some other. method so I am coming back. die. remember they died in.
forest fire. hmm. their death is in forest fire yeah. you go back to Mahabharata what happens. there is something called lakshagraha. incidental okay. foreign.
foreign.
foreign. [Music].
men who looked exactly like pandavas. size wise one was big like bhima Stout. and law means well built like bhima one. was where like. nakula the tribal and a mother. exactly they they came on the day when. the civil law decided to escape hmm and. that is a coincidence that some. some kind of coincidence that is so.
these are all things you can clearly. understand it has been written yeah and. these people. drink a lot. gets intoxicated. and then. uh they said pandava set fire to it and. run away so that. covers will think so kundi gives his. idea. then will think that pandas have died. kunti and pandavas have died. okay.
who all will have to do the idea is. given by vidur to do this. it was a king's Duty yeah. king and the Q Institute to ensure that. it is properly made. properly only that duryodan did this.
kunti played so both are playing games. political games some in essence died. and all the four vidura kunti. rashtra and gantari all the four dying. they face the consequences consequence. so it has as simple or as complicated as. that I'm interesting tell me if one. like interesting perspective. story from the side of corvas which we. often tend to miss especially in the pop.
maharaba Mahabharata which we which we. see or which we have consumed okay. something that they don't show on. television so they don't show in shows. see every incident no. it's not that uh they are not shown or. anything. any incident. the moment you step to the other side it. looks different. incident you step to the other side not. that all incidents can be justified with. that but up.
foreign. [Music].
foreign. foreign.
he ruled properly only so many years. they are old. naturally should come to me I am the. first son yeah. I'm the eldest I'm the oldest whereas. these are not even my pandus my uncle. Sons. I. or Madhuri or pandu.
anovas. why should I believe it. my name is. [Music]. foreign.
foreign. who is born in the city. why should I give the land.
is. foreign.
foreign. common people I didn't kill anyone. um.
actually. foreign.
now I am your enemy okay it is on me. that I am burning it I could be it could. be a outside enemy you are not even safe. five people who come to your home and. you expect all of us to believe that you. will save the country. foreign.
foreign.
so this is all why these are so. interesting is because all these. questions are there in Mahabharata also.
[Music]. they make the voices in television I. also write for television what you do is. you elevate the other voice give the. music for this and you make duryodan. talk like that Walk Like a Villain. you'll think he's a villain background. music background music. if you the moment you shift your. perspective and see. that is why these are all great. literature and great books and that is.
why they are holy books because it shows. the all the aspects of human life it is. not a simple fairy tale book of good. versus evil so this is like a third. standard kids book you know um. is not that at all it has much deeper. meaning okay tell me one interesting you. know series which happened and there's a. lot of question about it when ramji and.
sitaji comes back from you know. the Lanka and they. come back the celebration everything is. there and then Sita has to go through. the Agni pariksha okay and then it's. often considered that even after giving. that Agni pariksha she has to go back to. the. to to a village because the whole. whether the praja didn't accept her the. way she was so what is that exact. situation can you can you tell us tell.
us about that. it's wrong or it's right what's what's. that scene see again you are too it is a. uh again you have to connect it with. Mahabharata again. is the morality. which the people want. right.
that is a mariada actually. it's not Dharma Dharma Krishna Dharma. I'm not saying drama is not a Dharma but. Rama is more Lord Rama is more. people want people's morality keep. changing. whatever Krishna is opposite to that. krisha breaks all morality. foreign.
there's a huge difference so it is like. a. mirror reaction to that whatever the. entire life of Rama he behaves in a. particular way. it's totally opposite in krishna's life. Ram he is with his parents and when he's. adult he goes away yeah Krishna he is.
away from his parents. and only when he becomes adultery goes. to the parents. krishna's life is like every time. he has it's only a later day bhagavadam. and all things Radha comes it's a. medieval structure but still. he has it's a Divine love with Radha who. is already a you know as for many. bhagavadam is already a married.
a woman. and RAM kills ravan for kidnapping a. married woman. and Bali also. so what is right what is wrong the. moment you start. discussing about this. it confuses you. isn't it yeah because we are trying to. judge it with today's moral codes. so. when he says when he abandons Sita.
easy doing a right thing. he is not doing a. right thing. to his wife he is doing a right thing to. his. people. how is the right thing to the people. there is that's what I said there is no. right thing absolute right thing. because as a king. he believes that. Joe prajako.
Santosh uh. foreign. [Music]. it will be good and some party it will. be bad oh. choice. there is nothing like there is no action. jisme.
you'll be fair to everyone. there is not a single action in the life. that's why this becomes very deeper. right yeah so he does so the question to. this answer is was it an injustice to. Sita. yes it is an engine you can only answer. like the S hundred percent reverse and. Injustice to see that. was the act in Justice. you can't defend Dharma because.
not for the people. not for the mariada of that Society. so he is taking a choice of keeping. the mariada of choice above and. affecting. creating a problem for. sidaji. and it is a sacrifice. is he free from the fruit of this action. no. he has to eat the fruit of that action. also that's why it becomes a very.
layered thing no that is when the other. thing I said is childish any action like. in life of decatho. you take the case of Mahatma Gandhi hmm. or. uh. you dedicate the life for the country. okay. it's a good thing or bad thing. it's good for the country but bad for. his family. Siddhartha left his wife ashodhara.
Siddhartha is considered as an extravada. of Krishna. so again you can see the cycle of Karma. and Karma. Krishna is in Palace Krishna gets its. Enlightenment in means he becomes. complete in his Palace and with all his. wives and other things. then the next Avatar the Buddha goes out. of the virus leaving his wife and. everything. to live among the people. now Buddha's Act of leaving yashodhara.
and Rahul rahula. foreign. [Music]. again we are looking at from today's. perspective and the same as. don't talk about ashodhara. we don't criticize Buddha in the same. way we criticize Rama and for here if.
you see. Buddha or on hypocrisy and saying. Ramada said at least for the people. Buddha does it for himself it is his. need for enlightenment hmm. okay. Enlightenment. he spread the message of Peace. but when he is doing it. he doesn't even know whether he'll get. it or not no he is leaving his wife and. a sleeping kid and going it's yeah.
we are passing judgments and debating it. the certificate context collapse what. they call now in social media it's that. kind of argument it is you are not. taking it in the context. tell it through the way I was explained. by my uh father.
traditionally. um. okay. she be the way different parts a. different way should be. um.
foreign. took the Pigeon in his hand and the. pigeon said. one Eagle is chasing me. um. he's trying to eat me.
so. much. he said. who is weak. Ness. I want my food.
he has come taken Asylum. this is my Dharma to protect him so I. will give you some other thing then. Eagle loves and says.
you cannot give me tomato. I eat meat um. he says okay. and the soldiers bring a chicken. then the chicken says what is his. nonsense. so my life is not important protecting. my life is not important to you.
you are saying you will give sacrifice. me for that you can say you are. protecting your ego. wants to be the best good guy in the. world. he doesn't know what to do so he decides. that I will do the sacrifice he says. foreign. then the.
gerud says. again. um. whether you can cut it and give it is. half of your body. so he asked the wife he says nothing. doing you cannot do that but he. convinces his wife saying that it is. worse.
agree then the gerud asks. foreign. [Music].
did you ask your people the citizens. whether a lame man who is who cannot. lead them in the war. is it all right and if you lose the war. and some other evil King comes and rules. his country just to keep your word you. are putting so many people's life in. danger. then he says then I will resign as the. king. and as a person I will give then it.
laughs and says now we are going to. resign you are the greatest barrier you. are a king for a reason. and just to keep your word so your word. keeping your word is a bigger Dharma for. you than the protection of all these. people and doing other Raja Dharma which. is a bigger Dharma and finally shibi. starts crying he says I don't understand. what is what is a Dharma. so the garud becomes Indra and this. thing becomes why you in some version in.
some version and they tell that we came. to teach you that there is nothing. called. Dharma. always it is a matter of choice and. balance and you will have to decide what. is important. there is nothing called a himself. but there is nothing like a hundred. percent ahimsa hmm. why because when you walk also you will. be crushing many creatures.
inside you there will be a lot of. creatures right a lot of virus will be. there or some anime they are not. invented virus but they knew there are. other. uh. living mechanisms living things for. there not just we are more microbes than. our own cells as for modern science. at least they could see the tapeworms. and other worms you eat something you. will be killing certain foods you'll be. killing them. and now we know every moment your body.
is fighting with so many microbes what. gives you the right to think that. one particular animal's life is only. holy only sir. means if you really go to the logic of. it yeah or. um. what do you call you can kill microbes. say the race is saying no the. even the compassion.
is based on your sense of beauty. okay. meaning go ahead. a dirty worm is there. you crush it next state is going to. become a butterfly you feel sad if you. crush it yeah. just a matter of Aesthetics not a matter. of Dharma yes. isn't it yeah caterpillar. so you feel it so beautiful I should not. touch it I'll do it half an hour ago it.
was just a worm and you feel nothing to. crush it if it crawls on your put it. like this. it's a caterpillar if you find it on. this you will touch it and you don't. care whether it dies or not foreign. so it becomes a matter of choosing. between. what you feel as Dharma. that is what is always so Dharma there. cannot be a. common Dharma for everyone.
you have to choose what is right and be. ready to face the consequences of it. is. very difficult to comprehend for common. people easily. foreign. foreign.
and goes into drugs or Bad Company. you did an action you don't know what it. is no so it's like a constantly being. aware it becomes an important thing here. you are doing it for good many times in. our life you see that no we try to do.
something good and it ends up in much. worse or you try to do something worse. it turns out to be good you don't know. what is see what what lessons should we. learn because we try to derive lessons. from the history from when we look at. Rama and when we look at Mahabharata. right we try to drive lessons from that. so what should we do in the modern world. in today's world what lesson should we. derive like is it right to listen to. people and sacrifice your own family and.
your own wife because people want moral. Justice or is it the opposite way like. no you should not listen to the people. and not to the society but only listen. to your wife and your like. as because as you rightly said it's very. complex for a common man to just. understand or differentiate between. what's right with wrong we only look at. our. you know our ancestors or our religion. or the kind of mythology which we have. been read or seen we look at those.
things to derive lessons so when we look. at ramayana what is the last lesson like. we would want to get you take Raman and. Mahabharata ultimately there is only one. lesson there is only one Dharma your. conscience is your god. you have to listen to what your heart. says. whatever you do there will be. consequences. whether you become Rama or whether you. become Krishna there will be. constituences. there will be consequences that is why. in some of the mahabharadas they say.
that. when pandavas go they find duryodan in. the surge. um. and they say what is this. what is this nonsense you did all wrong. but uh. the answer given is two answers come one. is the total bhakti fan fandom. Mahabharata where they say that it's a. temporary it's a convenience explanation. but other explanation is that.
he lived as per his this thing. he lived as per what he felt right at. that point at that point because there. is no tool to judge so two ways are. there one is the real bhakti Margate. thing is mine neither the decision is. mine so even the results are not mine. [Music]. I did what is what I felt right at that.
moment and I with Equanimity with. Equanimity I will take whether it is. successful or is painful Rama does this. that is one way he has taken some. decision and ramjika uh. it's really except for the few years he. spent the joyous life with Sita. in the beginning in the 14 years before.
sitaji was kidnapped by Raman. his life is. full of crisis. up to the end. but this is choice to live like that. he gets elevated because he does all. sacrifices not just from the beginning. he had a sacrifices you see that no. he wants to give the this thing to. Bharat he gives away to Bharat and walks. away for his father he's always active.
for others. the polar opposite is Krishna. that is also another way of living you. are Untouchable in Gita Krishna says. that no he is he keeps on doing Karma he. doesn't bother about the results. he is Untouched by it neither the joy of. it nor the sorrow of it affects him. so Krishna if you say is a very. practical guy. when he wants to run away he runs away. he doesn't care.
he doesn't care for what the mariada of. the society says. he has eight wives and sixteen thousand. other boys who rescue who he rescued. from narakasur in some versions. he rescued. sixteen thousand and eight wives. his lover is Radha as per at least the. medieval versions he doesn't even go and. meet ashodha after being so close to it. nothing affects him. in the war he doesn't care Victory only.
is the. we can and we are left all the devotees. are left uh. running trying to justify his actions. imagine it it's so funny you'll be. having so much fun no he does everything. possible to win yeah and now all the. devotees are in a country somehow they. have to justify this all this actions I. didn't have that problem he wrote it as. such. so when uh if you want to kill bhishma. you bring shikandi.
cannot be killed Before Sunset he. creates an artificial Sunset he will say. shoot karna when he doesn't have the. when his. but when the Chariot was uh instead in. the mud caught in the mud and when karna. doesn't have the board arrow is trying. to lift it shoot him he's saying. he tells you this to tell a. lie's entire life of telling truth was a. preparation for telling that lie isn't. it if you really think.
Society. he does his action and is unaffected by. it so when gandhari curses. foreign.
[Music].
how you look at it. so the moment I shifted the focus from. Nala. and put the focus on the mayanti so this. is a part of my book series where I'm. exploring women of ramayana was. valmiki's feminine wrote women of. Mahabharata next will be ambassad I am. taking different women and telling the. Mahabharata from women's perspective. okay so like Rama and I told like. last one was a short story where.
surpanaka stories told tadaka story is. told it's seen from their angle so here. it is seen from this kind of characters. like the main thing and Amba now. I'll be exploring it okay the moment you. see the story from the main thing you. know it's a very romantic uh it's a. typical romantic comedy romantic comedy. yeah so I return it with a lot of humor. fun I changed I shifted the taken away. the focus from Nala and seen it from the.
maintenance point of view she is a Never. Say Never kind of woman. who fights the fate and wins Nala. everything he lost. so it becomes a very positive life. affirming tale rather than the typical. submit to fate kind of tale it's. damethas fight against the so how I have. taken this is uh. Brahma wants to destroy the world.
he said button because humans are not. giving him any. uh. uh. humans are not giving him any peace.
and they also create uh different forms. of God and fight each other. he finds that when. foreign.
foreign. [Music].
wealth Beauty position power status. or how you look Beauty I said no so all. these things. then I will consider this. so this. he goes to Earth and nared says that. there is a.
foreign. intervened he lost everything and it is. a sad story thank you so much sir thank. you for having a beautiful conversation.
in fact in the beginning I was very. unsure of questions. but I'm glad that I had a conversation. with you I really enjoyed thank you. thank you and now you get to learn so. many things thank you so much for giving. us so many pieces of information and. showing a world from a different. perspective thank you thank you so much. thank you I enjoyed it thank you so much. for watching this episode till the end.
you never know one conversation can. spark a new idea and that can change. someone's life forever until the next. episode keep figuring out right.
