[Music]. clock this I assume is the clock in the. indoor pool where Helena Egan is. swimming laps and hearing the clock is. pretty odd because this type of analog. clock seems to have a smoother glide on. the second hand suggesting that tick. sound would just be cosmetic and also. how could Helena even hear it if she. would be swimming through water here. obviously this ticking is meant to be. like a source of anxiety in Helena's.

mind a fear of being late for her creepy. breakfast with her dad on this very very. very important day and also just the. fear that they might run out of time for. Marks a complete Cold Harbor also we. should note that the last time we saw. Helena in the water Irving was trying to. drown her so maybe she's going through a. kind of exposure therapy here Mr. Drummond referred to another oblig M. session to rebalance Helena's tempers. after that incident this could be part. of that we're also reminded of the. depiction of Kier Egan swimming in old. timey swim trunks in Miss Hong's ring. toss game which she has to bust up this. episode we see Helena swimming the.

freestyle stroke but when we first see. her she's doing the butterfly and. there's this odd closeup of Helena. gasping for air as her face is poking. through the water surface but the light. is behind her head in the shot don't. those look like ceiling lights which. would make her look like she's face down. and breathing underwater and therefore. drowning obviously these lights are just. on the floor of the pool but I don't. know why these pool lights would even be. on when daylight is coming in through. the windows and Brit L doesn't seem to. be lit From Below in any of these other. shots but obviously the idea of drowning. is just recurring thing on the series.

not just for how Helena Egan was nearly. killed but also we think how Gemma Scout. might have died after her car hit the. tree the season 2 opening credits show a. wrecked car submerged in an icy Pond and. that nurse in episode 7 asked Gemma if. she had been caught in a Mudslide if she. would have been more afraid of. suffocating or drowning which we noted. is pretty much the same thing we cross. dissolve on Helena walking through this. watery surface down a quarter now which. is a similar framing that we've seen. before on this season from the opening. shot of Gemma in episode 207 when she. was on the Gans college campus to the.

shot later in that episode when the. nurse with gemo was walking back down. the hallway superimposed on the back of. Mark's head as Helena turns right the. camera lingers on the frozen tree line. after the scene we learn that this Egan. home estate borders the Lumen campus but. maybe Beyond this tree line is the W. Hollow Oro area since it must be close. enough to the office for milch to be. able to radio the rest of the employees. in this room the blue circle wall art in. the teal colored love seat match the top. and the skirt that Helena wear as Helena. approaches J we see a wider shot of the.

room and all of the furniture and decor. share some Curious design the two tables. in the lamp and the side table for the. chair all look like they are monolithic. carvings from singular tree trunks which. remind us of derer Egan's fate a human. transformed into a tree as a result of. his excessive Frolic I could not make. sense of the wall art hanging above the. fireplace but the general Vibe of it. looks to me kind of like an abstract. expression of either Kier invites you to. drink of his water or the wo Hollow. waterfall which would just make it. interesting for this to be hanging above. the fireplace and it may be nothing but.

the close captioning of the scene labels. all of Helena's lines as coming from. heli when most of the time she goes by. Helena as their Audi form but the. terrifying later scene does have Jame. refer to any heli in the shortened form. of his daughter's name you tricked. me. my Jame here says that this is a. momentous day probably assuming that. this will be the day Mark Scout. completes the Cold Harbor file and he. says that he won't eat but he will watch. into six pieces and places it on this. plate this little painting looks like a. vintage Welsh design where we see a. little feisty boy being forced into a. seat or rather fought over by two girls. one in red and one in blue could this be. a representation of Audi Helena and any. heli fighting over the same Man Mark she. haves the egg into two and then splits. it further which could represent like. the very first Act of severance and how. people like Gemma are further severed. into additional sections but this image. of just dividing an egg is also being. seen by some as another clue to the.

pregnant Helena Theory and the way a. fertilized egg cell divides from a. zygote to a cleavage but we should note. those cells go from 1 to two to four to. eight there are never just six of them. Helena uses her fork to pull apart the. boiled white from The Boiled yolk and. slices off just a tiny sliver of the. white another way to look at this egg is. the white could represent the Audi the. yolk the innie and Helena only wants the. white part of it cuz she's the Audi but. we also cannot forget that Lumen also. just has a weird thing about egg they.

this father and his daughter are both. part of the same reincarnation cycle of. the same person Kier Egan Helena reports. that they are seen to Mr BFF which tells. us that Bert putting Irving on a train. is either carrying out to Lumen orders. or maybe Bert is just trying to save. Irvine by putting him on that train to. help him Escape Helena is driven to work. in what looks like a 1972 Chevy Monte. Carlo and the camera pulls back to show. the Family Estate borders the Lumen. water tower so that means that this. estate must face the tower that you pass. as you drive into the Lumen offices and.

Helena's fixation on the water tower. suggests that this water could be the. same source as the pool water that she. just swam through this morning and maybe. they're just all drinking and submerging. themselves in the water Kier invited us. to drink of could all this water be. tainted by a heavily diluted cocktail of. that sweet sweet vitriol ether and I'm. only bringing this up because of the. fertility Motif suggested by the egg. imagery but many have noted that the. overhead shot of the Lumen campus with. the water tower front and center might. look to you like the anatomy of a. woman's uterus in fallopian tubes one. detail we should revisit from the.

opening credit sequence the shot of. Mark's grassy surface being contained. within a book that a giant Harmony. coobel is reading with her face as a. giant search light can we now take that. as a clue that the severance procedure. itself was actually invented by Harmony. coobel milch gives Miss Wang usus hang. we learn a bust of Jame Egan current CEO. to Mark the premature end of her winter. tide Fellowship this is similar to the. bust of a younger Jame Egan that Harmony. coel received when she went through her. winter tide Fellowship that we saw last. episode the little plaque here tells us. that this is the year of vision and the.

year of vision was the same year of the. Lumen calendar based on the nine core. virtues in which coobel was. awarded her youth Apprentice matron. plaque that we saw last episode and a. reminder that Harmony's winter tide. Fellowship occurred during the year of. Wilds so milch says that eustace's bed. will be moved from her parents' home to. The gunnel Egan empathy Center in. svalbard so spard is a remote. archipelago in Northern Norway bordering. the Arctic Circle in the northern. Atlantic it's kind of like an even. colder salt neck which was shot in New. Finland Canada the name fabart actually.

translates to cold Edge so there's. another connection to Cold Harbor there. the fact that milch and Lumen have the. power to move a kids bed from their. parents home suggests that the whole. hang family would be a lumen family and. their houses are all Lumen property and. that would explain why Drummond has a. key for Irving BFF's apartment and this. is our first mention of gunnel Egan. gunnel is a Swedish or Scandinavian. girl's name meaning battle n milch says. that E's assignment will be to work on. global reforms from this empathy Center. and it kind of gives us some Vibes of.

how Mormons are sent on missionary trips. and how the Church of Scientology will. send people around the world milch holds. this meeting in the same conference room. where we began the series where any heli. woke up to be greeted by Mark's voice. and I love how this scene is shot so. that the bust of Jame blocks eustace's. face when she talks as if Lumen is. gagging or silencing her while the. framing looks like milch is perched to. top of James head milch says that she. must mark this betterment with a. material sacrifice and makes her place. her Kier Egan ring toss game on the. table and use the bus to smash it this. is essentially what milch said before to.

Dylan doesn't take it well and dumps his. veggie smoothie ingredients in the sink. Irving arrives home to see his dog radar. staring directly at Bert Bert is reading.

Irving's notes that Mr Drummond went. through in the past episode we actually. see the photo of Irving's father off to. the side there and Bert reads they may. also be connected to several recent. disappearances or deaths Goodman may. have participated as a low-level. enforcer or goon disappearances or. deaths that tells us that Beyond Jimma. Scout some people have just gone missing. and have died and that's just pretty. creepy for a town as small as KP is like. some people have been taken by the. company kidnapped and forced to be. severed I have to assume now Bert says.

that they never Ed words like goon or. enforcer and he said that with Lumen. it's a very specific language so our. theories that he works high level. security seem to be accurate we see. empty shots of gemma's floor as Dr Mau. watches from the observation room with. the four observers we saw in episode 4. gone he's back to wearing his Dental. costume and he has a little Band-Aid on. his head with a lumen droplet logo after. Gemma had knocked him out with a chair. similar to The Band-aid Mark escot in. season 1 after heli assaulted him Gemma. sits in her dorm not noding off is she.

drugged I hope not I actually have a. very interesting theory about what. really is going on with Gemma based off. of this episode's title at the end of. this video we see that Cold Harbor is. stalled at 96% I still like the theory. that Cold Harbor for gimma is the. recreation of the traumatic memory of. her death the car hitting the tree and. creening into the ice but all season. long this show has told us that Mark is. being torn between two loves his trapped. platonic ideal Gemma and his Lusty. temptress Helena Egan who as her own. severed any as really a fourth wheel in. the mix work is mysterious and important.

the season 2 opening credits show Gemma. and h/h Helena toggling rapidly in the. export Hall elevator the two girls on. the egg plate could represent Gemma and. Helena fighting over Mark for now I. think Cold Harbor is the final step in. Mark and gemma's relationship that they. need both of these spouses to process. and that captured and bottled trauma. will actually be used to perfect Helena. Egan in some way who might have some Dee. rooted trauma involving drowning herself. even before Irving tried to do that to. her on the or bow and maybe the re. Helena has pursued these romantic.

moments with Mark is to try to get him. to transfer his feelings for his dead. wife onto her so that she can benefit. from whatever he batches from Cold. Harbor any heli arrives the first of the. mdr3 making this the first time I think. she has arrived first of her crew. especially since Mark is her crew chief. and this is because Audi Helena made. sure her inie arrived on time whereas. Mark and Dylan's udies are having days. we see Mark for the first time after his. reintegration coma in episode 7 when he. woke up from the memories of Gemma. crying we know during episode 8 that. Devon then called Harmony coel multiple.

times they pull over by a cliff that. actually looks like it might be part of. the same New York minasa State Park. cliff that we saw in the Oro just a. different time of the year like the lake. is no longer Frozen I I might be wrong. about this it just kind of looks like. the same Cliff from a different angle. heli charges into milch's office passing. an analog clock over Miss Wang's desk. that shows it is 9:13 a.m. meaning that. she waited 10 or so minutes before. deciding that the guy who's always. supposed to be there before her has had. something bad happen to him and just to. reminder that we have not seen any Mark. and any heli together since episode 6. when he got the nose bleed which.

happened you know after they um milch. blows her off saying that Dylan is now. Department chief in Mark's absence kind. of like you and. coell replace one part with another now. the irony is it was hel's Audi who made. that staffing change between coobel and. milch I also feel like we're going to. look back at this line when we realize. how Lumen is really just swapping all. kinds of Parts minds and bodies with. another on their path to this kind of. medical immortality milch says that's. enough heli are and heli corrects him.

that's enough hel R don't you mean hel e. yeah she knows that she's actually heli. Egan and she openly defies him as she. slams the door that he wanted left open. any Dylan proposes to Gretchen uh. Gretchen G oh my god um I love you poor. inie Dylan doesn't know their last name. is George so he just calls her Gretchen. G it also looks like he made that ring. out of one of his finger traps he says. that he can give her a life but. tragically this day began without Dylan. threatening to end this in's life maybe.

I go in and I quit and I just end his. existence how about that hel says that. Dylan should save the ring for someone. he could meet down here it's just o d. and the Goat people that we know of this. feels like a teased by the show that. there could be further rooms beyond what. we have seen down here we know of macro. dat refinement Optics and design. mamalian nurtur B gemma's floor Dr Mau. that observation room wherever that is. and we cannot forget the Shadow People. the first of whom appeared behind Mark. in season 2 episode 1 that is one.

Harmony is telling the truth here this. further fuels her suspicions about the. matching clip numbers to the file.

Ben Stiller are aware of those other. titles and they're really not doing that. with this show what I do think is. happening and the reason that the. severance procedure invented by Harmony. coobel was such a breakthrough for Lumen. and for the Egan family is that this. family from the days of Kier has been. obsessed with finding a Panacea an.

Elixir to heal all possible maladies a. drinkable form of eternal life it used. to be ether and now they believe they. can manufacture that by severing a soul. into a pure any soul that they can. refine by tempering that Soul through. traumatic experiences with the emotional. data produced by those experiences. captured by others and Mark and Gemma. Scout are really just the first people. who have had such a strong connection. that they were able to go the full. distance in that capturing process now. in the case of Helena Egan The Egan. family might just believe that every.

Egan descendant and now with Jame Egan. and Helena Egan have buried within them. parts of their souls that they have. inherited directly from kir Egan a. buried innie with values and traits so. much like their ancestor that with a. proper refining process they can. essentially reincarnate the personality. of Kier Egan as an any identity within. the brain of one of his descendants and. if that identity is enough like Kier. they can essentially lock in that data. and let that identity completely take. over whatever body it's in I know I've. been hinting at this theory in past.

the break room to the left of the hang. in there poster is this dispenser with. multicolored packets that seems to take. one of their snack tokens that sever. employees are given Apple actually sent. us a vending machine with boxes of. random Lumen stuff and one of them was a. flat packet of fruit leather and I. wonder if that's what these are actually. Brandon bar discovered that this vending. machine is a 1940s you selected. automatic vendor heli finds Irving. sketch of the exports Hall and the. handwritten directions from her o and. that Irving had hidden back there for. Dylan and I know I talk about the cross. dissolve superimpositions a lot but I. just really love this example of the.

close-up of Irving's 90° turn directions. dissolving into an overhead shot of the. windy road being driven by Bert and. Irving they drive under an elevated. Bridge it looks like either a foot. Bridge or maybe an aqueduct that's. frozen over I don't know why this area. would need an aqueduct when rivers and. lakes are everywhere but as with the. water tower I think we are meant to look. at how water flow is being artificially. directed through this setting Bert tells. Irving that he never hurt anyone he just. drove people places and never asked what. happened when they got there I'm. actually reminded of Helena Egan's. driver that Harmony locked on to before. she fled these drivers are just as scary.

as whatever Lumen does set the. destinations they're kind of like Kon. the Fairman on the river sticks and. seeing Irving and radar look so nervous. as they look out the window at these. Frozen trees soprano spoiler here I'm. reminded both of the Epic Pine Barons. episode of The Sopranos but also. long-term parking when Sylvia drove. Subterranean this light must be coming. from like some kind of rectangular hole. from above or it's just artificial light. milch's eyes Linger on his photo of this. Iceberg we did see a lot of icebergs. back in Salt's neck last week I think. it's just an example of having a. balanced life above ground that matches. the bigger part that's beneath the. surface at the train station we see. passing train cars at least one of which. is marked NYC because they shot this at.

UDA Union Station both the interior and. the exterior Bert purchases Irving a. one-way ticket on a line that will take. Bert as far as he can go in this train. station all the commuters are wearing. vintage suits and hats like mid 20th. century just another example of we never. know when this is even though dates on. the show have placed it sometime after. 2021 and then we just get this beautiful. and heartbreaking exchange between JN. taturo and Christopher Walkin Bert. reveals that he's actually helping. Irving Escape that he severed so that he.

could feel innocent again but then that. innocent part of him fell in love with. Irving and Irving makes a similar pitch. that any Dylan made to Gretch in to. create a life with Bert repeating I'm. ready I'm ready and leaning in but then. Bert says we can't we can't we can't and. he repeats that phrase and repeating the. words and phrases just feels like a. lumen method of conviction now there are. a lot of metaphysical ways we can. interpret the train station right other. than the road Harmony took to Salt's. neck it seems to be the only major route. out of kirp that we've seen and we've.

seen train stations as metaphoric. settings representing the passage. between one life and the next for. example King's cross station and Harry. Potter in the Deathly Hallows in which. Dumbledore told Harry that the train. would take him on whatever that means in. Christopher Nolan's Inception the train. tracks were how Dom and Mal escaped the. limbo dream state to return back to. reality there was also the devastating. finale of fx's The Americans minor. spoiler here when a train was how the. American life really ended for those. Russian spies or at least some of them. the fact that this train station and.

everyone in it seems to be from an older. time and both Irving and this sweet. elderly pup radar are both taking the. journey together and the fact that Bert. says Bon boyage reminding us of how. milch said Irving was on a voyage which. the enies had thought meant death I'm. just now really worried if this train. might symbolize a voyage to another. stage of life and when Irving boards a. train car there is a woman sleeping two. rows behind him she could be dead also. this might just be random but there is a. man in the very far back who kind of. looks like Rick and wearing glasses I. might be seeing things now the exterior. of the train numbers it 2400 which if.

you're going by military time would be. midnight right like the end of the day. and it's front Crest shows that this is. part of the adarac railroad formerly the. adarac Scenic Railway which runs from UA. to Tupper Lake Dylan Waits by the. elevator his head is perfectly framed. with the Kier pardons his betrayers. painting so that it looks like kier's. hand is placed on his head I've long. speculated that those four buried up to. their chests are meant to reflect the. mdr4 but now we wonder will Kier pardon. Dylan for quitting like this is he. hoping that he'll be pardoned as Miss.

Wong boards her shuttle and as Irving. looks out the window we see orange pink. sunset light gleaming through the clouds. and I think this is the only time we've. seen the sky this color on this Frosty. winter tide series Irving's train shoots. down the tracks into that Sunset and we. get a sance match cut edit back to the. black exports Hall the same Hall. intercuts with Mark loading into the. back of the truck is this just for us to. see both of these as a transference into. a kind of death now after hours heli. tries to memorize Irving's instructions. to find the experts hall and then a. shadow appears behind her in the doorway.

and we're certain it's Mr milch. until you tricked. me my I don't think I've ever been this. scared on the series he calls her my. heli telling us that the severed name. she uses comes from the short nickname. he uses for his little feted mobit so. what the hell is Jame Egan doing here on. the severed floor and why does this. voice sound so old and strained well I. got two theories here one the trick is. that Jame thought his daughter Helena.
