Marvel’s Mutant Plan Finally Revealed in Spider-Man Brand New Day

Peter Parker is the Oppenheimer of the. mutant saga. This horrible truth and everything else. we learned about Marvel Studios X-Men. and mutant saga plan in Spider-Man brand. new day. I'm Eric Voss of the New. Rockstars channel and let's explain. Marvel Studios plan for the X-Men in the. mutant saga after everything we learn in. Spider-Man brand new day. Spoiler. warning if you have not seen the movie. yet. Seriously, stop watching the video. I'm about to spoil the big twist. It is. confirmed. Sadie Sink is playing Jean. Grey for Marvel Studios. In Spider-Man. brand new day, in Avengers Secret Wars, and for the X-Men movie that will be.

announced soon. Jean Elaine Grey, sister. to Sara Grey, a fellow telepath. abandoned by their mother Elaine for. their mutant abilities. What does this. confirmation now tell us about Marvel. Studios mutant plan starting in this. movie followed with Doomsday, Secret. Wars, X-Men, and beyond. I'm going to. break down all of the answers that we. really just received. She's a young mutant telepath who has a. sister named Sara and has the power of.

body hopping possession and after her. trauma over her sister's death and her. anger takes over, also telekinesis and a. truly expanded scale over a at least a. half mile radius. Jean Grey is one of. the most important mutants to Marvel. lore. Better known as Marvel Girl in the. very first issues of X-Men comics in the. 60s, she was part of the starting. lineup. She's an omega level mutant, a. future host to the Phoenix Force, someone who can really level up and even. warp reality. And with Scott Summers, she's part of really the most important. family tree. A family tree that becomes. a weird obsession of Mr. Sinister. Jean.

Grey is not the first character with a. mutant status in this universe of the. MCU. Kamala Khan was established as. having a genetic mutant status. discovered by her friend Bruno at the. end of the Ms. Marvel series. >> Kamala, there's something different. in your genes. Like a mutation. >> And in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Namor used the word to describe himself. >> I was a mutant. >> And that was important because Namor, the Sub-Mariner, was the earliest. character in Marvel Comics lore to be. described as a mutant back in the Timely.

Comics era. And also in that Wakanda. Forever movie, Namor interestingly. attributed certain qualities to that. mutant status. >> I could swim in the sky and age slower, breathe the [music] air our ancestors. breathed. >> There are also some MCU characters that. we suspect are going to be named. mutants. In the comics, for example, Wanda Maximoff was certainly considered. a mutant, even though when her character. was introduced in the MCU in the. post-credit scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and further in. Avengers: Age of Ultron, Disney back. then had to strike a deal with Fox to. never call her or her brother.

Quicksilver mutants or reference any. parentage to Magneto. That's how we got. the term enhanced to describe characters. like this. But now that the Disney-Fox. merger is fully complete, and whatever. the legal holding period was that. delayed MCU mutant recastings, we can. now look at characters like Wanda. Maximoff and her sons Billy and Tommy as. mutants as well. It also seems that the. MCU might have a new rule where any. character who was born with their powers. without any otherwise shown origin story. event or power source might be. considered a mutant. This would include. Wonderman, Simon Williams, or Peter. Quill, son of the celestial Ego.

Meanwhile, characters whose powers seem. to have affected them on the level of. their DNA, but things that happened. during their lifetimes might be. considered mutates. That would include. Peter Parker, Bruce Banner, Carol. Danvers, Monica Rambeau. They don't have. a genetic mutant status, but what. happened to them did affect them on a. genetic level when it comes to their. mRNA replication. While Wanda Maximoff. did have a power-up event via the cosmic. radiation of the Mind Stone. As a girl. before that happened, she was able to. cast a low-level probability hex in. order to keep that Stark warhead from. exploding, implying that she was born.

with whatever she has, and it might be a. genetic status. Sadie Sink being. revealed as Jean Grey in this movie is. now in retrospect 100% why Kevin Feige. and Marvel Studios made no announcements. about their X-Men film or mutant saga. plans at Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con. They didn't want to spoil this twist in. the movie. They really left that for. Steve Lacy. But now that we know it, we. can expect Marvel Studios has plans to. announce further details about the X-Men. film at D23 on August 14th. I will be in. the room for those announcements, and. New Rockstars is going to be live. streaming all the big news that Friday.

evening, so mark your calendars. So far, here is what we know. Samara Weaving was. confirmed by Deadline to be playing Emma. Frost, a member of the mutant Hellfire. Club and a telepath like Jean Grey who. can also turn her body into an. indestructible diamond substance. She. will be playing Emma Frost in Jake. Schreier's X-Men film. Indira Varma star. of this summer's breakout hit Obsession. said that she was in talks with X-Men. director Jake Schreier about playing. some part in this film, and that she. loves the character of Mystique. Actually, here are her exact words. >> How was your meeting with Jake Schreier. for X-Men?

>> Oh. Well, I've been taking a lot of. meetings since like Obsession has come. out, and that's been really nice because. you get to meet people and you get to. ask questions, and I thought. what he brought to Thunderbolts was what. I used to love about Marvel was like. character-driven and really And so, the. whole time I just couldn't stop gabbing. about how much I appreciated what he had. brought to Marvel. Um and that's kind of. like the luxury that I have right now. meeting all of these different kinds of. people. And not all of them kind of turn. into projects. It'll be. I just really want to work with you and.

it like I've seen this project of yours. and this and this and this, and so I. just really wanted to congratulate him. on bringing back my favorite thing of. Thunderbolts. And he's a very sweet. person. >> Is there a character you would love to. play or you grew up watching that you're. like, "Oh, that would be such a dream". even if somebody already is playing. them? >> Oh, I mean, uh Mystique has always been. super cool. >> There have been some other rumors that. Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny have. been in talks to play Hank McCoy Beast. and Rogue respectively. Those rumors. might just be coming from the fact that. those two actors just appeared in season. 2 of Beef on Netflix, a series written.

by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, who are. currently writing the new X-Men film. draft, and the movie's director Jake. Schreier directed a lot of those. episodes. Movie commentator and friend. of the channel John Rocha shared a rumor. that Cooper Hoffman, son of the late. Philip Seymour Hoffman and a great actor. who starred in a long walk alongside the. new Black Panther actor David Jonsson, is in talks to play the new Scott. Summers Cyclops. There are also rumors. that Adam Driver was approached to play. a role in the mutant saga, perhaps the. villain Mr. Sinister, but Kevin Feige. has said that Adam Driver always passes. on everything they talk to him about.

X-Men film could come in May 2028, but. at Marvel's Hall H announcements, they. said Black Panther 3 will release on. December 18th, 2028, and Ghost Rider. will release some other time in 2028. I. think they were less committal about. that one because they might be waiting. to announce that X-Men will come in May. 2028 and Ghost Rider will come in July.

2028. I just think Shawn Levy really. likes that July weekend. In other. interviews, Kevin Feige has confirmed. that they will not be releasing any. movie between Avengers Doomsday on. December 18th, 2026 and Avengers Secret. Wars on December 17th, 2027. Here's what. Kevin Feige told Josh Horowitz about. what type of X-Men stories they plan to. adapt for the Mutant Saga. >> The other awesome thing is the amount of. X-Men stories that have not been told. yet. Not just the ones that interact. with other Marvel heroes, of which there. are lots, but but there are sagas upon. sagas upon sagas within the X-Men that.

we're very excited to to delve into. >> By establishing Jean Grey as the younger. sister of Sara Grey, that detail really. comes right from the middle of the Chris. Claremont era that Li Sung Jin and Kevin. Feige have referenced whenever they talk. about their X-Men plans. But why. establish Jean Grey right now in this. movie? What is Marvel Studios telling us. about the history of the 616 universe? Over the weekend, Kevin Feige told a. crowd at his alma mater USC how the. decision to cast Jean Grey as the. villain of this movie really came about. >> But that was one of the big development. changes that we kept going through was.

who is the bad guy. There was one. version of a bad guy, then another. version of a bad guy, then a version. essentially of. of this bad guy, um, that. was revealed to be a very obscure. character nobody ever heard of. And and it just wasn't it wasn't. satisfying. And that might be what Tom. was talking about because he said, "Well, what about this character?" And I. said, "Well, we can't use this. character, but and knowing that all of. the the the journey that Peter was going. on has to culminate in his confrontation.

with the villain at the end, that's when. Jean starts to come up. Start It's a. young a young person. very similar in age to Peter, maybe a. little younger. Peter again, who just. said had a mentor in each of the other. Spider-Man movies. And seeing. a young person who did not have a. mentor. Seeing a young person who has. powers like Peter did, but didn't have. an Aunt May. They didn't have anybody to help guide. to help guide them. And that is what led. in and the origin story of Jean Grey in.

the in the comics before Xavier finds. her, before she joins the X-Men. Does have something to do with her. sister and something to do with her not. not controlling her powers. And that is. when it really came together. And then. our co-producer Emily Fong sitting. around the table said, "What about Sadie. Sink?" And we all went, "Okay, it's Jean. Grey. Let's get her.". And that's what led That's what locked. it. >> Thank you to the USC students who. recorded this. So, from this Kevin Feige. explains that Jean Grey was not the. original villain of the movie's plot. structure. It was somewhat obscure, maybe like Mind Worm. But through all.

these development conversations, they. wanted their first MCU X-Man member to. be around Peter Parker's age and to be. very dangerous and very much in need of. mentorship. By the way, Emily Fong, she. played one of the apprentices in the. Sanctum Sanctorum in Spider-Man: No Way. Home. At the end of Brand New Day, Jean. Grey is on a bus headed north somewhere. We were thinking this could be in the. Hudson River Valley, Westchester County, where Charles Xavier's estate would be. But that would mean that this universe. already has a Professor Charles Xavier. in it. Maybe already has a mutant.

academy in it, which might also mean. they already have a Magneto and other. older era mutants in it. If that's true, where the hell have they been in the MCU. stories that we've seen? Well, I think. the idea would be that these mutants. might exist in this history, but the. older ones are not yet organized into. groups and alignments that we know them. for. Like they might just be isolated, scattered. Maybe not all of their. abilities have expressed themselves yet. I think most of them would have dormant. powers that come from exchange, but. until the recent history of the MCU have. not yet been activated. But here's the.

thing about genetic mutants that Namor. told us, they age slowly. If that's true. for all mutants in the MCU, we could. have some mutants who are born in the. early 20th century of the MCU history, mutants like Eric Lensherr who survived. Auschwitz and continued to age slowly so. that they would now look between the. ages 50 and 60. What we would really. need then is a recent trigger. That. recent trigger for genetic mutant Kamala. Khan was the cosmic radiation released. by the bangle that she inherited from. her great-grandmother, the light from. the Norn dimension that that ancestor.

came from. That was the trigger for. Kamala. For other mutants, it could just. be puberty timed with universe-wide. releases of cosmic radiation like. Thanos' snapping of the Infinity Stones, or rather the moment Hulk snapped them, or when Tony Stark snapped them. I mean, after all, Brand New Day seemed to. suggest that Bruce Banner was the Albert. Einstein analog to Peter Parker's Jay. Robert Oppenheimer when it comes to the. invention of mutant inhibitor. technology. I mean, I would love it if. either Bruce or Tony were the ones. responsible for the event that awakened. all of the dormant mutants in this. universe. I mean, either way, the MCU as.

it is right at the second is kind of in. a scary place when it comes to that. mutant inhibitor technology. The end of. Brand New Day confirms that Bill Metzger. is still missing and the DODC's. experimentation on these enhanced beings. and tinkering with advanced weaponry. goes far further than anyone realized. In fact, one detail that I spotted in my. breakdown was that they renamed. Shocker's gauntlet Gauntlet X, which. shows that the US government is already. working on the nomenclature of what to. call these genetic enhanced persons, X-Men. If Metzger's loose and if he. still has that chip that he and his. techs put on Jean Grey, that technology.

is still out there and could be shared. by Metzger with any others in the. government. First suspect for me, CIA. Director Val. I don't trust her one bit. I don't think Yelena does either if. she's not working out of the tower and. is instead working out of this bathhouse. office. I think in the early era of the. mutant saga, Kevin Feige and Sarah. Halley Finn are going to cast other. human leaders who are hunting down. mutants, Senator Robert Kelly, Henry. Peter Gyrich, Bolivar Trask, William. Stryker. And now these guys would have. the tech that they could equip on. Sentinels to force mutants to wear. inhibitor collars. They're going to be.

building this enforcement agency out of. the apparatus that already exists of the. DODC. And we know the DODC already has a. prison facility like the Supermax prison. in Yucca Valley, California. Just don't. be surprised if they take over the raft, too. Now, in the past, I had certainly. assumed that Marvel Studios might. introduce their new cast of mutants as. coming from another universe, young. re-castings that we could meet in a. section of Battleworld in Secret Wars. But now with Jean Grey and the exact way. that she was introduced in this movie, I. now believe that Marvel Studios is not. going to do that. I think they're going. to keep it simpler. I think they want.

all of their mutants that they're going. to be exploring in the mutant saga to be. homegrown, originating in the original. Earth-616, just to imply that all other. universe chunks that we see in. Battleworld in Secret Wars are either. fun cameo worlds of past Marvel. franchises like the Raimiverse or. hypothetical what if worlds like Hydra. world that we saw in Multiverse of. Madness where Steve is Captain Hydra or. a new Xandar where Nova could be. introduced or, you know, like a Hulk. village like we saw in the concept art. But if Feige thinks Jean Grey comes from. this Earth-616, I think Marvel Studios.

is going to want all other X-Men to come. from Earth-616, too. So again, where. have they been? Well, if they're not. just living low profile, another theory. is that there could have been a past. memory wipe spell that erased the X-Men. from the collective memory similar to. what Doctor Strange did to Peter Parker. that the movie Brand New Day was so. obsessed with exploring the. ramifications of. Maybe there was some. history in the 1960s of the 616 universe. where there was a Charles Xavier and a. Magneto in a first-class era and then. something happened where the Ancient One. warped realities to erase them from.

public memory. But if that happened, people with X-genes would still exist. and then have to find their way through. society feeling like complete loners. like Jean and her sister did. I mean, this is a detail that I viewed as a. throwaway detail, but She-Hulk did. include a headline to a man with metal. claws somewhere in the MCU fighting in. bars. I mean, if we're going to take. that as like religious fact, a Wolverine. is somewhere out there in the 616. universe. But if a memory wipe spell. explanation is too confusing, I get it. I get it. That wouldn't be Marvel. Studios keeping it simple. So, instead, Marvel Studios could just say these.

mutant characters always existed. They. just weren't active. They weren't. organized into groups like the X-Men. yet. But, they didn't realize that there. were others like them out there. There's. no school yet. There's no brotherhood. yet. There's no Genosha yet. But, Jean. taking this bus upstate is really the. first steps to these mutants finding. each other and starting to organize. against the government hunting them. So, why is Marvel Studios introducing Jean. now right before Doomsday and Secret. Wars when those movies will focus on. other older era X-Men from the Fox. films? I think Marvel wants to send off. that era with a firm goodbye. But, I do.

think they want to leave us with a. promise that after these crossover. events get resolved, there will be some. universe that looks somewhat like the. 616 universe that we still know and love. with homegrown mutants in it waiting to. pick up the pieces of the franchise. After all these interviews, it is clear. Kevin Feige does not want Secret Wars to. be a complete 100% reboot because. there's too many lingering plot threads. that Marvel Studios remains invested in, especially now that they've confirmed. that T'Challa's lineage with Prince. T'Challa will continue to be intact in. the future after Secret Wars. Florence. Pugh is a star. They want Yelena Belova.

to be a face of this franchise. Someone. who has a history dating back to 1995 of. that same 616 history. And they still. want to work with Tom Holland's Peter. Parker including everything that he went. through dating back to Iron Man 2. He is. now kind of the elder statesman Tony. Stark figure who really should regret. his Oppenheimer-esque role for inventing. mutant inhibitor collars. But, also, the. good news of this is if Marvel isn't. going to reboot the universe 100% after. Secret Wars, saying they're sticking. with homegrown mutants in the 616. universe makes it possible now that. Elizabeth Olsen's Wanda Maximoff could.

return as the Scarlet Witch of this. universe during the mutant saga. She. should always be our mother. And whether. or not Marvel Studios would decide to go. with the memory wipe plan or they were. always here plan, either way we would be. perfectly set up for a true House of M. event where Wanda could warp reality. into an alternate universe where mutants. dominate society.
