I think we can agree.

this movie is really Avengers 2.5. And. it's the first time the Russo brothers. worked with Robert Downey Jr. and most. of the MCU actors they've gone to work. with in Infinity War, Endgame, and now. Doomsday. As the film that also. introduces Spider-Man and Black Panther. to the MCU, it shows that the Russo. brothers aren't afraid to end a movie by. showing a whole new kingdom emerging. from the fog. a visual that I think will. return in Battle World at the end of. Doomsday. That plus a hundred other new. details that we found by going through. this movie scene by scene that we're. going to share with you in this video. Siberia in 1991, opening on a vast. tundra like this comes under a new. context now that the Russo brothers. opened up to the AP last week about. their love of the western genre from.

Italian director Sergio Leone. Something. that we certainly saw in their breakout. community episode, A Fistful of. Paintballs and their season 2 follow-up. for a few paintballs more referencing. Leone's Man with No Name trilogy. But. now they're saying their influence for. Avengers Doomsday is Leone's Once Upon a. Time in the West. And I expect in. Avengers Doomsday, we might see some. sweeping vista shots like this in Battle. World. We come up upon this hydra. facility that will serve as a backdrop. for the final confrontation of this. film. In case this wasn't clear to you, the Russo brothers clarified in 2026. that this base was meant to be an.

abandoned Soviet ICBM launch site silo. in bunker that Hydra has now taken over. Perhaps as part of the disarmament. agreement that would have been part of. the start treaties between the US and. newly forming Russian state with the. collapse of the Soviet Union in the. early '90s. So, it's pretty cool to. imagine the two versus one fight going. down in a place that was once a location. where the whole world could have ended. from. We see a Hydra soldier punching in. the code 17826, which on a touchpad. would translate to one Stan because. there can only be one Stan Lee. Or maybe.

because this is where the one Sebastian. Stan is about to show off his acting. skills. Now, Vasili Karpov is the Winter. Soldiers handler in the comics. Here, he. activates Bucky with the trigger words. [music]. Now, there were some rumors that 17 and. Homecoming would be the teases for. Spider-Man Homecoming releasing in 2017, but the screenwriters have denied it, suggesting that the words just sounded. melodic and menacing in Russian, but.

ending on freight car cannot be random. A freight car was the last tactile. connection to Steve Rogers before Bucky. plunged into Hydra's clutches. Now, in. the comics, Sputnik was Buckyy's. Manurion candidate trigger word, and. Sputnik was the working title for this. film. Buckyy's musical sting and comes. back from Winter Soldier here. Now, it was reported that composer Henry. Jackman got the sound by modulating. Buckyy's scream from that fall, but he. actually got the sound by recording.

himself screaming into some kind of. metal drum and then processing the hell. out of it to evoke the sound of a. tortured victim being trapped inside of. a kind of machinery. So, now that he's. activated, sometime after this, Winter. Soldier Bucky runs a car off of an. isolated road and secures Super Soldier. Serum from the trunk. We will revisit. this pivotal moment of Tony's parents'. death throughout the movie. Now, at this. time, we still do not know the full. reason behind the Russo brothers choice. to cast Robert Downey Jr. to play Dr. Doom in Avengers Doomsday. But if. there's anything behind the idea of. Victor Von Doom being a variant of Tony. Stark or vice versa, then it's possible. that the death of Tony's parents is a.

canon event and one that could be. important to the story of Victor Von. Doom. We know that the loss of his. family will be a driving force behind. all of his actions. Civil War, of. course, deals heavily with the loss of. family and the impact it has on those. who survive. Zemo is so shaken by the. death of his wife and kid that he. murders his way through a plot to break. up the Avengers. Tony Stark gets in a. physical battle with his fellow Avenger. Steve Rogers over the death of his. parents. Tchala's loss of his father, Tachaka, moves him into an uncomfortable. position of power as he seeks revenge. for his father's murder. and Steve loses.

his last connection to the past as Peggy. Carter passes away after a full life, one that he did not get to have with. her. This idea of familial loss and what. drives the person is a theme that the. Russos will revisit in Avengers. Doomsday. There was a whatif episode. that also dealt with this pivotal moment. in MCU history, but in that universe, Red Guardian showed up and stopped the. Winter Soldier from completing his. mission on that night. Instead, the pair. went on a wild adventure together where. they ran into Bill Foster working for. Shield and wound up killing Obadiah. Stain, who was working with the Red Room. and Hydra to try to kill off the Starks.

I just think it's so interesting to. revisit this night in December 1991 in. MCU history with the death of Howard and. Maria Stark, something that was. mentioned in the early Iron Man films. It's happening on that date. Now, in. 2026, the Russo brothers revealed at a. Civil War 10-year anniversary event. hosted by CBR's Shawn Oonnell at Agbo. Studios, how this movie really started a. civil war inside of Marvel Studios and. Marvel Entertainment. I mean, that movie. is probably the a tale of how to be. uncompromising because we got in such a. heated um fight with Marvel New York at.

the time uh over the direction of the. movie. I mean, that was. famously the the movie Civil War started. the Civil War within Marvel. Um, and uh, it was because we were only interested. in the third act that led to a conflict. between the two main characters. uh, where there was a risk averse um, approach that was being proposed which. was they resolve the civil war conflict. before the third act and then they go.

fight a bad guy. And we thought, well, we're we're dealing with an arc here. that spans many many movies and um uh if. we uh if if all we do is keep playing. the same note over and over again, optimistic ending, expected ending, there's no shape to the arc to the to. the uh overall um arc of of the movies. And we felt strongly at the time based. on the risks we took in Winter Soldier. that paid off that these risks would pay.

off as well and that there would play. into a much larger arc for Marvel and be. a more fertile territory for them to uh. move into in um in the coming films. For. further context on this, the 2023 book. MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios, written by Joanna Robinson, Dave. Gonzalez, and Gavin Edwards, dedicates a. whole chapter that explores how with. this movie, the Russo brothers and Kevin. Feige bristled with their then bosses at. Marvel Entertainment, CEO Ike Permother. and his head of the New York-based.

creative committee, Alan Fine, over the. inflating budget cost of adding Robert. Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark to a third. Captain America movie, followed by this. battle to add a new Spider-Man to the. film and a Black Panther to the film. Ultimately, then Disney CEO Bob Iger. stepped in and sided with Kevin Feige, giving Feige a new full creative control. over all Marvel Studios film. productions. So, this movie and its. success were critical in cementing the. MCU around Kevin Feigi's vision and his. relationship with the Russos that. continues now with Doomsday and Secret. Wars. We jump to the present day, which.

in this movie would be in spring of. 2016, setting in about 1 year after the. events of Age of Ultron. The current. lineup of Avengers are in Logos, Nigeria. on a mission to stop Crossbones. Brock. Rummlo returning from Captain America: Winter Soldier. His arm attachments. later returned to the MCU as scavenged. parts in Adrien Tomb's crew and. Spider-Man Homecoming used by Shocker. and then again in Spider-Man Brand New. Day when Spider-Man had to deal with. Savage Hulk in the DODC facility. Here, Crossbones and his crew are trying to. obtain a biological weapon. Our first. shot of Steve Rogers shows him looking. into the daylight, a contrast with his.

final shot in this movie when he's in. shadow. Cap certainly has more of an. edge in the team Cap versus team Iron. Man debate that has continued for years. But Cap's descent in this film to me. underlies the true message of this film. that in a civil war, there are never any. true winners. Because to win one of. these, you must defeat your own. brothers. Still, one Avenger does win. the moral argument. And you know, we'll. talk about who at the end of this. analysis. Wanda sips coffee and does. some reconnaissance. Her American accent. getting stronger. Lots of blank baseball. caps in this movie to indicate someone. is being inconspicuous. Falcon's new.

drone is called Redwing, named after the. bird friend that he talks to in the. comics. He and Natasha chase down. Crossbones agents. >> I got the two on the left. >> Ah, I saw what you did there, Natasha, giving Sam an on your left. >> Don't say it. Don't you say it. >> ON YOUR LEFT. >> COME [screaming] ON. >> NATASHA corners the goons carrying the. virus. And oh my god, it's Thanos. Shoot. him now. Actually, it's just actor. Damian Potier who played Thanos in the. postredit scene at the end of Avengers. 2012. You can really see it in the eyes. Red Wing takes him out. Rumlo throws off. Cap by mentioning Bucky. Rumlo makes it.

clear that he was there for at least one. session of Hydra using the memory wiping. machine. Though it could all have just. been a bluster on Rumlo's part to mess. with Steve's head. Cap will actually. still be thinking about this later in. the movie. >> Rumlo said Bucky and. all of a sudden I was a 16-year-old kid. again in Brooklyn. >> But actually, this is why Cap knows that. mentioning Bucky will distract his. younger self in Avengers Endgame. >> Bucky is alive.

Crossbones tries to blow up Cap and. himself, but Wanda is able to contain. the explosion around Rumbllo, torturing. him. I love how brutal it is for. Rumbllo, screaming in pain as he is. trapped with this bomb mid explosion. I. mean, that's some dark Scarlet Witch. action. Wanda moves the explosion away. from Steve, but unfortunately throws it. into the office building. These heroes. have got to be held accountable. Meanwhile, we see Tony Stark sharing a. barf memory at MIT. Remember [music]. the kind of September.

>> Maria's song is the inspiration for. Tony's September grant to the MIT. students. In the memory, she tells Tony, >> "Wake up, dear, [music] and say goodbye. to your father.". >> Tony mentioned this longtime grant all. the way back in the first Iron Man. >> I never got to say goodbye to dad. >> This memory takes place hours before the. parents fatal crash. The deaging here is. pretty effective. first revealing young. Tony in the back out of focus and the. face partially covered and then in one. long take bringing him all the way into. the foreground for a very convincing. [clears throat] reveal. The multiple. setups in one take is a classic.

Spielberg move, but the lack of cuts in. the scene serve to make it feel more. like an actual memory of a real moment. I also love this shot of Tony's mom. leaning in to kiss her son and as she. backs away, the real Tony is revealed. standing in the background. He doesn't. walk through the doorway like Howard. just did moments before. He's just. there. The visual effects studio Lola. VFX created the young Tony, analyzing. the look of Robert Downey Jr. in some of. his earlier films, including Less Than. Zero from 1987, which also featured. Ultron himself, James Speder. Robert. Downey Jr. did the performance of Young. Tony himself. This was the same team. that DH Michael Douglas for the cold.

open of 2015's Ant-Man. And this is one. of the last scenes Robert Downey Jr. physically shot for the movie since he. had to shave off his facial hair for the. VFX work. We also know that in Avengers. Doomsday based off of a. behind-the-scenes photo, Robert Downey. Jr. has some similar mocap dots that are. on his face. We learn that the Russo. brothers are actually using a similar. digital effect to add some gnarly. scarring to Victor von Doomspace in. Avengers Doomsday. This bar of tech. binary augmented retro framing we later. learn was invented by Quinton Beck or. someone pretending to have the name. Quinton Beck who was standing just off.

stage in this moment and used by Team. Mysterio to screw with Peter Parker in. Spider-Man Far From Home. Tony mentions. the tech works by hijacking the. hippocampus which explains how Peter was. so fooled by projections inches away. from him. Because it's not just. holograms, they are inside the brain of. the viewer. Tony challenges them to. >> reframe the future. >> and. >> go break some eggs. >> Nods to his good tinkering, giving Peter. Parker his literal frames in the future. and his bad tinkering, breaking eggs to. invent Ultron. >> Nobody has to break anything. >> Clearly, you've never made an omelette.

>> You beat me by one second. >> Jim Rash, listed just as an MIT liaison. in the credits, is one of the Russo's. many community cameos, along with Danny. Py and Captain America: Winter Soldier. and Kim Jong invent Nicole Brown in. Endgame. All this makes us wonder who's. going to be the community cameo that the. Russo brothers work into Doomsday and. Secret Wars. Could it just be Donald. Glover playing an alternate version of. Miles Morales in Battle World? That'd be. pretty wild. Or is it going to be Joel. McCale, Alison Brie, or Gillian Jacobs? I mean, it's going to be someone. This. MIT leaison pitches his project. >> I have got this killer idea for a.

self-cooking hot dog. Basically, chemical detonators. Yeah. >> Yeah. Embedded in the meat shaft. >> It kind of sounds like his project is. essentially the exploding meat that Tony. dealt with in Iron Man 3 with. extremists. and thus why Tony dismisses. the pitch. We learn this MIT guy's name. as Professor Wilks in the Iron Hart. series when Jim Rash returns, expelling. Riri Williams and claiming she failed to. continue Tony Stark's legacy. Tony is. confronted by grieving mother Miriam. Spencer Alfrey Woodard who also played. Mariah Dillard on Luke Cage. She's based. on Miriam Sharp in the comics who lost.

her son Damen in the mutant explosion. that killed 600 people and sparked the. Civil War. Miriam boldly says to Tony. that he murdered her son. You think you. fight for us? You just fight for. yourself. Who's going to avenge my. [music] son Stark? He's dead and I blame. you. >> This idea of the Avengers actions having. unseen consequences will come up in. another way in Avengers Doomsday. In. Avengers compound framed on Steve's desk. is his old monkey on a unicycle sketch. that he did in Captain America: The. First Avenger. In Wanda's room, she has.

pinned up pictures of who I assume is. young Petro and directly beneath a globe. with a continent of Africa turned to. face them as they discuss Nigeria. So, I. guess we can call this Wanda's guilt. corner. Vision phases right through the wall, reminding the audience that this is one. of his abilities. Wand and Vision's love. for each other has been growing on this. compound. As we see in episode 8 of W. division, Thaddius Ross returns, now the. US Secretary of State. >> 5 years ago, I had a heart attack. After.

13 hours of surgery and a triple bypass, I found something. 40 years in the army. He never taught me perspective. >> These heart issues will cause Ross to. turn to Samuel Sterns for help. As we. learn in Captain America: Brave New. World, Ross has kept Sterns imprisoned. since the events of The Incredible Hulk. Thanks to increased intelligence from. Banner's gamma irradiated blood, Sterns. was able to develop a treatment for Ross. via these pills. However, Sterns was. also secretly turning Ross into the Red. Hulk during all of this time. The. seating arrangement at the table.

parallels the future ending of Infinity. War. Those on the right side of the. table dust, those on the left side of. the table survive, and Tony is sitting. away, just like how he's away from the. others when the snap occurs. So, let's. break down Ross' death slideshow here. Battle of New York, 74 civilian. casualties, which would mean deaths plus. major injuries. That's actually not that. bad. Then Project Insight, referring to. the events of Captain America: Winter. Soldier, only 23 casualties. Sokovia, 177 casualties. Logos, 26 casualties. Combined total 300. I mean, this is like.

people pocket change. They really should. be proud that they kept it this low. You'll notice also on the map, it looks. like there were some events in Los. Angeles, which could be referring to. Tony's battle with the iron monger Oadia. stain. And then there's somewhere in. Brazil. Maybe that was the Amazon. rainforest. And then it looks like. either Cairo or Alexandria in Egypt. And. then a spot marked in southern China. And then finally, a spot somewhere near. the Chinese Russian border. There's no. mention of Hulk's rampage in. Johannesburg from Age of Ultron. Maybe. Thaddius Ross left it out since Bruce. isn't here to shame. The response is the.

Zakovia Accords. Based on the Superhero. Registration Act in the Civil War. comics, forcing superhumans to reveal. and register themselves. The Zokovia. Accords will continue on being mentioned. in several projects throughout the MCU, but at some point in 2025, the accords. were officially repealed as confirmed by. Matt Murdoch and She-Hulk Attorney at. Law episode 8. >> May I remind you that the Sokovia. Accords have been repealed. >> Zemo tracks down Karpov thanks to. Natasha leaking all of Hydra's files. online at the end of Winter Soldier. Interestingly, PICE warned her about. this. Are you sure you're ready for the.

world to see you as you really are? >> Are you? >> Natasha's action gave their enemies a. weapon that they could use against them. Zemo had found Karpov in Cleveland. We. learn in Black Widow that Natasha and. Yolena grew up in Ohio with Alexi and. Molina. I guess it's just a great state. for current and former KGB and Hydra. agents to hide out in. But we also know. that the Russo brothers grew up in. Cleveland, Ohio. Zemo presses Karpov for. information on the Winter Soldiers. assignment on December 16th, 1991. But. Karpov stays strong, letting out a hail.

hydra on the way out. Now Zemo drowns. Karpov in a sink with a rim lower than. his mouth. As Pete would say, >> that thing does not obey the laws of. physics at all. >> Vision bums us out with this Yoda style. causality equation. >> Our very strength invites challenge. And given how we. saw the DODC acting towards Gan Gray in. Spider-Man Brand New Day, they might. indeed be coming for the mutants next. The team starts to take sides as Steve. gets a text and has to dip out. At the. funeral of Peggy Carter, there's been. some fun postendgame debate over whether.

old Cap was in attendance, maybe even. that silver-haired pawbearer. But set. photos show it's just a different actor. And while the screenwriters keep. refuting their own time travel logic to. keep this idea alive, the accepted. cannon from the directors in the studio. insists that old Steve Rogers lived his. life in an alternate branch history, which we will probably see more of in. Avengers Doomsday. Now, it doesn't. explain how old man Steve Rogers got. back to the 616 universe, but maybe we. will learn that secret history in either. Doomsday or Secret Wars. Steve learns. that Sharon from across the hall is. Sharon Carter, Peggy's great niece. Even. if everyone is telling you that.

something wrong is something right, even. if the whole world is telling you to. move, it is your duty to plant yourself. like a tree. Look them in the eye and. say no, you move. >> This speech was paraphrased from Steve. Rogers words to Peter Parker in the. Civil War comics. As we'll see. throughout the film, characters will. literally say the word move to Cap, but. he never yields. >> Move, Captain. Move. >> It wasn't him. >> Not moving is kind of a Cap thing. Can. you move your scen?

>> No. >> Natasha tells Steve, >> "Staying together is more important than. how we stay together.". >> It's framed as naive in the moment, but. Steve is stubbornly heeding the advice. of a dead woman. Maybe even apocryphal. advice because Sharon's the one quoting. it. And we know that she loves lying. over the advice of his fellow soldier. Being a man out of time has been Cap's. power. But here, it becomes his curse. After her actions in this film, Sharon. Carter will leave the CIA and go on to. Madreport, where she spends her years. during the Blip and is later revealed to. be the Power Broker in the Falcon, the. Winter Soldier series. By the end of.

that series, she gets pardoned and. rejoins the CIA, presumably under Val, though she hints that she's going to get. back to her old Power Broker. shenanigans. At the UN in Vienna, Tchala. chats with his father. >> The Wakandan spoken language is based on. Hosa, which is a South African dialect. spoken by Nelson Mandela. The Russos. credit Shadwick Boseman with making so. many strong choices for the character, including this Wakandan accent ahead of.

Black Panther's standalone film directed. by Ryan Cougler. He created that entire. sort of world of the character, the. accent, where that accent should come. from. He was so specific in what he. wanted for the role and there was that, you know, you see brings that fierce. reality to the character. >> A lot of the guidance of the continuity. between this movie and Black Panther was. guided by Marvel executive Nate Moore. Now, notice Tchala's ring. It's a. critical clue later when we see a. similar one showing up around. Kilmonger's neck in the Black Panther.

film. We know he must be part of the. royal lineage. Taka supports the Sakobia. Accords, but does that mean the Black. Panther was going to sign up for them? Would Wakanda allow human oversight of. the Black Panther? Or were they just. confident that he'd always be able to. stay off of the grid and out of their. oversight, but then a bomb explodes and. kills Taka and Tchala mourns. >> In my culture, dead is not the end. It's. more of a stepping off point. You reach. out with both hands and bust and sick. met. They lead you into the green vel.

where. you can run forever. >> God, this line hits different after we. lost Chadwick. But here, Tchala is. describing what we later know as the. ancestral plan. Bast is the panther. deity of Wakanda mythology who comes up. in that movie's prologue. >> A warrior shaman received a vision from. the panther goddess Bust. >> It's also a statue of Bost that we see. in the fog of Wakanda in this movie's. postredit scene. And it seems like we. see Boston in their human form in. Omnipotent City in Thor Love and. Thunder, but that was just according to. the extra who played this part. Tchala.

starts off his hunt for Bucky Barnes. with the idea of full retribution. >> Don't bother Miss Romelov. I'll kill him myself. >> But by the end of this film, he will see. that the eye for an eye approach does. not solve problems as the Avengers split. apart around him. Zemo practices his. Russian pronunciation of the Winter. Soldiers activation words in a hotel. where the staff is speaking German. We're not in Ohio anymore. The bellhop. refers to Zemo as Air Mueller, and we. see a mysterious device he's hiding in. the closet. Plus, there's a dead body. just sitting in the bathtub that we.

don't know about yet. A lot of mystery. for the audience as to who Zemo really. is and what he's planning. The Russos. hide Zemo's true intentions from the. audience, leading us to believe what the. Avengers think his plan is. The Russos. could try and do something similar in. Avengers Doomsday, hiding Doom's true. intentions from the audience. Bucky. hides in Bucharest, which interestingly. is one of the outposts Fury worked in. Captain Marvel. >> We were everywhere. Belfast, Bucharest, Belgrade, Budapest. I like the bees. I. can make them right. >> Bucky also wears the inconspicuous blank. hat and tests plums for rightness with. his winter soldier arm, meaning he has.

handlebars of a passing motorcycle and. hops on mid spin. This effect was also. done practically with the bike spun. around on wires. And when Cap is running. in front of the flipping car, that is. also a practical effect with the camera. angle hiding the true distance of the. car from the actor. This exciting chase. ends with Rodie arresting all of them. Major missed opportunity for a boom. Look for this there. His war machine. armor is Mark III if you noticed, following the Mark 2 Iron Patriot armor. from Iron Man 3 and the Mark 1 armor. from Iron Man 2. Notice how the armor. has tallied Ultron Century heads for all. of its kills in Sokovia. and his name is.

bullet. That look of shock on his face. is so great. I'm sure it was this. incident that really pushed him to get. the full nanotech suit that'll have an. Infinity War. Bucky and Natasha Spar, maybe you at least recognize me. She's. calling back their fighting Captain. America: Winter Soldier, but also the. time that he shot through her to kill a. target. Yeah, bye-bye bikini. Cap takes. Bucky to the gun show and saves him from. the water, returning the favor that. Bucky gave him in Captain America: Winter Soldier. I mean, while it wasn't. an active helicopter with the rotor. spinning, I love that they did largely. do this practically with everything just.

suspended from cables. That is actually. Chris Evans's real bicep that he was. able to achieve for this movie. In the. safe house moment that we saw in the. Both Steve and Bucky were. soldiers out of their times, teamed up. with five other freaks to fight wars. that were not theirs. But this plot. point is also some great misdirection. When Steve confronted Zemo in Berlin, he. said that he wanted to see an empire. fall. We think Zemo just wanted. information about the Winter Soldiers.

1991 mission just to find these other. super soldiers so that he could take. down all of America, Russia, or some. other world power. of the empire he. really wants to destroy is the Avengers. We jump TO QUEENS. YEAH, WITH THAT LEFT. hand free needle drop being one of the. biggest cheers I've ever heard in a. Marvel movie screening. Tom Holland's. Peter Parker walks into their apartment. where he can actually see Tony sitting. on the couch talking to Aunt May when he. first walks in, but like any teenager, he's just too distracted to notice at. first. Tony shows he learned nothing. from Miriam about putting kids in.

Carter steals Steve and Sam's gear from. the CIA, fully putting her on team Cap. and sending her down the road of leaving. the CIA and becoming the Power Broker. It is pretty crazy that Steve kisses. Sharon Carter here, knowing her. relationship to Peggy Carter. I love the. reaction shot to Sam and Bucky in the. car. And of course, we got to love this. exchange. >> Can you move your seat up? >> No. >> I honestly think it was this little. moment that inspired the Falcon, the.

Winter Soldier series on Disney Plus. Onto the best airport ever, where we see. that Ant-Man has joined Team Cap as he's. revealed sleeping in a van. Yes, vans. really move this man around in the MCU. At this point, we notice that Cap has. removed the Avengers logo from his. suit's shoulder. He meant it when he. said that he broke up the set. Now, this. battle in its muted color coding has. come under criticism in many video. essays. I actually talked about the. Russo brothers color grading in their. movies and how it looks like Avengers. Endgame Encore is even boosting the. coloring and the brightness for the. September 25th release compared to the.

2019 release. But there are many great. analyses over the years that I. referenced in our recent video that talk. specifically about how multiple. characters with their different dominant. colors in their suits makes it really. hard to put them all in one shot and. maintain believability. And that one. solution that they tried is to just. really mute out the background. I mean, ultimately, I don't care. I still love. this sequence. As they face down each. other, Tony calls in his backup. >> Under ruse. >> I mean, this was such a great trailer.

moment, and I love it watching it now. And specifically, the practicality of. this Spider-Man suits eyepieces having. binocular lenses, which allow Peter to. emote through his eyes. We learn in. Spider-Man Homecoming that Peter just. got the suit when he arrived in Berlin, so he likely had just put it on for the. first time. Now, in the opening throws. of this battle, in the background of. this airport, you can see the blue. family stairc car from Arrested. Development, a nod by the Russos to. their directing work from that sitcom. A. blue man will show up in the collector's. vault in Infinity War. Spider-Man webs. up Falcon who asks him, "Is this stuff.

coming out of you?". >> In a few years, it will be Sam the full. lineup's charge. Now, compared to the. Civil War lineup splash page in the. comics, there are a ton of characters. that Marvel left out, but I'm happy we. get as many as we do. Clint and Natasha. spar, but as Wanda points out, Clint is. pulling his punches. Actually, Clint and. Natasha are always on their own team. Cap pins Peter. >> You got hard, kid. Where you from? >> Queens. >> Brooklyn. >> Cap's smile is him remembering he had a. similar exchange with Dr. Erskine. >> Where are you from?

>> Queens. 73rd Street and Utopia Parkway. Before. that, German. Peter has a habit of just. following authority figures without much. consideration of the situation. Here. that authority figure would be Tony. But. he also does this with Quinton Beck and. Far From Home, Doctor Strange and No Way. Home, and Bill Mezer in Brand New Day. Hawkeye and Ant-Man partner up, recreating this image from Avengers 223. Scott uses the trick that he used on. Falcon to break into the Avengers. compound. He shrinks through the gaps of. Tony's armor, which is another. inspiration for Tony to finally upgrade.

to the seamless nanotech armor in. Infinity War. And I love how in Endgame. they use this past loophole to know to. shrink inside of Tony's 2012 era armor. Hawkeye meets Black Panther. >> We haven't met yet. I'm Clint. >> I don't care. >> Tala will show him love later in Endgame. by calling him by his name. >> Give it to me. >> Peter takes down giant Scott Lang by. using Luke's toe cable move from the. Empire Strikes Back. In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, we'll see that Ned will. be watching this same exact scene from. Empire Strikes Back. And I just want to. point out the great look of fear that.

Robert Downey Jr. gives when he thinks. that Peter is seriously hurt. That fear. comes back for him in Infinity War. Roadie uses the sonic blast, the same. tech on the Stark designed Sonic cannon. used on Hulk, and later shows up on the. drones in Spider-Man Far From Home. Tony. learns the power of discrete drones here. when Sam bops him with Redwing. Notice. that Tony was going to snare Falcon in a. projectile nest, but that stopped him. from doing it. Vision misses Sam because. he was too busy putting his hands on. Wanda and disables Rudy and the music.

terrifyingly cuts out and. yes, they put this in the trailer and we. all thought Rodie was going to die in. this movie. It's sometime after this. injury when Rodie is undergoing medical. procedure where he seems to be replaced. by the scroll Rava. At least I think. that was the implication from Rodie. being in a medical gown in that finale. of Secret Invasion. But based off of. that deleted scene from the Falcon the. Winter Soldier, I think they actually. wanted to imply it happening at some. point after Endgame. Either way, Secret. Invasion is one Marvel title I'm okay. just removing from the cannon. Zemo. weirdly calls the hotel so that they can.

find the corpse of Dr. Brousard a cameo. by co-director Joe Russo who cameos in. all of these movies. His wife and Russo. is actually the voice of ZEMO'S WIFE. NOW, WHY would Zemo call attention to. his deception? This tells us that he. wanted Tony Stark to discover his. meddling in order to lure the two. together so that he could drop the truth. bomb on them. He accesses the frozen. over facility in Siberia and finds a. file box for December 1991. This is. likely where he finds the video he shows. Tony later. Tony arrives at the raft. In. the comics, the raft is a superhero.

prison near Riker, but this version. replaces prison 42 from the Civil War. comics where Tony, Reed Richards, and. Hank Pimp keep superhumans in the. negative zone. Thunderbolt Ross sent. these heroes to the raft, but he will. ultimately wind up imprisoned here. himself after he red Hulks out. On the. wall is R3 L8 or relate for Tony now. having to relate to his rivals. Or, you. know, maybe it's just room 3, level. eight. I might be reaching there. Clint. welcomes him. >> The futurist is here. He sees all. >> Tony is often called a futurist in the.

comics. His future doomsday vision has. defined him since Ultron. Also, Robert. Downey Jr. did release an album called. The Futurist. Tony admits to Sam that he. screwed up after Sam says Tony will have. to go Mark Ferman on him to get any info. on where Cap went. Who Mark Ferman was a. former LAPD detective and key player in. the OJ Simpson murder trial. It came out. during the trial that he had a history. of racist language and allegations of. police misconduct. Sam tells Tony about. Siberia and warns him to go alone and as. a friend. And as Tony heads out, he. doesn't share the information with Ross, but tells him this.

>> You can call me anytime. I'll put you on. hold. I'd like to watch the line blink. He will in fact do that at the end of. the film. In Siberia, Bucky raids a gun. drawer on the Quinjet labeled Romanov, meaning these are Natasha's guns. They. remember old times. >> A redhead. >> What was her name again? >> Dolores. >> You called her Doc. >> Daddy Underwood was one of Peggy. Carter's enemies in Agent Carter. Tony. joined Steve and Bucky, admitting he. might have been wrong about a few. things. He calls Bucky Manurion. candidates, a reference to the 1962. movie starring Frank Sinatra about a.

brainwashed soldier turned assassin. The. movie was remade in 2004 with Denzel. Washington and Lee Shriber. And in the. remake, the brainwashed soldier becomes. US representative for New York, just. like Bucky will be in a few years. I. mean, Tony really is a futurist. The. trio discover that the super soldiers. are already dead. They wore a red. herring. Zemo's true plan is to end the. Avengers. He shows Tony the footage of. Bucky killing his parents. It ends with. Bucky shooting out the camera, recalling. the moment Bucky shot directly at Tony's. face earlier. What a crazy twist here. I. love it. Tony first turns to Cap asking.

him if he knew what Bucky had done. Steve admits that he did know. Back in. Captain America: The Winter Soldier, when Steve Natasha found the Zola. computer, he showed them files on Hydra. and the Winter Soldier, including the. car crash that killed Howard and Maria. Stark. The article included a quote from. Obadiah Stain and even had the correct. date of December 17th, 1991, as it would. have been printed the next morning. following the crash on December 16th. The Russos planted this seed in their. very first MCU film to have it pay off. here in their second one. Bucky is also. pretty emotional here. He and Steve were.

friends with Howard Stark. Howard even. recognized Bucky right before he's. killed. Bucky confirms this later. >> Do you even remember them? >> I remember all of them. >> He'll continue reckoning with. remembering everything that he's done. during the Falcon and the Winter. Soldier. Tony lunges at Bucky. No. repulsors activated, which is why Cap. was able to hold him back. I mean, Tony. just wanted to take a raw swing here. Tony eyeballs the missile at Bucky, not. even trying to be that precise. He's. just that angry. Obadiah Stain had to do. the same thing in the first Iron Man. film after Tony disabled his targeting.

system. I mean, just the fight. choreography of this moment of the. twoon-one as Steve is now fully. comfortable tossing that shield over to. Bucky to help him out on that side of. the fight and Bucky tosses it back to. him. Some of the best fight choreography. we have ever seen in the MCU. Every blow. lands, everything's intentional, and. everything feels defensively parried. Tony does have the moral high ground for. most of the film, but here he loses a. sense of reason like his old foes. Bucky. nearly claws out Tony's heart. But. Tony's Mark 46 armor is equipped with. features of his past suits, so he.

focuses all the energy to his chest. reactor, the main feature of the Mark 17. Heartbreaker from Iron Man 3, and blasts. off Buckyy's arm. I mean, the murderous. intensity that Tony shows toward Bucky. here, I'm actually pretty frightened to. see this echo when it comes to Victor in. Bucky in Avengers Doomsday. Tony also. still has that repulsorp powered. backhand maneuver from the MarkV shotgun. armor that he used against Aldrich. Killian in Iron Man 3. But. interestingly, there's a new feature. here. >> Analyze this fight. >> Yes, his algorithm predicts Captain.

America's moves and mirrors them. I. wondered if Taskmaster was using similar. algorithm technology in Black Widow. Like, did the Red Room somehow steal. this tech from Tony? I mean, theoretically, with that suit powered. down at the end of this fight, Tony was. not able to fly that thing out of. Siberia. Would have had to crawl out of. it like a hermit crab and walk his way. back to somewhere or crawl an airlift. Maybe the red room recovered that armor. or yanked something out of it by the. time Tony was able to get back there and. recover it. Back at this quiet moment of. the fight, Steve repeats his big line. >> I could do this all day. >> And then we get the iconic shot of this.

movie as Steve and Tony restag the. classic Civil War issue number seven. cover. But in this critical moment, Steve rips off Tony's mask and instead. of the face, he goes to the reactor. Now, if you think about it, ripping off. the mask was actually a merciful move. because it was to help Tony breathe. after this suit was going to be. disabled. Kind of like Tony had to do to. help Rodie breathe when he arrived in. the middle of the field. Actually, US. Agent John Walker will mimic the shield. smashing technique, but he's going to. use it to brutally kill a guy. But. instead of going through the head, he. goes for the chest arc reactor, all to. disable the suit and force a draw that.

all of them could walk away from. Steve. walks away with Bucky, but Tony reminds. him who made that shield, and Steve. understands and leaves behind the shield. that Howard Stark made, now bearing the. scars of the internal battle between. these Avengers. Zemo listens to his dead. wife's voicemail again, voiced by Joe. Russo's wife. >> You should have seen his little face. Just try, okay, I'm going to bed. I love. you. >> And Tchala arrives to arrest him, saying, >> "Vengeance has consumed you. It's. consuming them. I'm done letting it. consume me. Justice [music] will come. soon enough.".

>> Will Dr. Doom also be consumed by. vengeance? Or will he have a firm grip. on his emotions as he works to defeat. the Avengers? I mean, I do think. Avengers Doomsday could use some TVA. logic to justify why the 616 universe. doesn't have a Dr. Doom. Maybe because. Helmet Zemo already represents an. Eastern European villain who lost his. family in a battle due to the Avengers. actions. Which would also mean that all. that Earth 828 Victor von Doom needed to. calm his vengeance was a Tchala figure. No Black Panther in 828. Victor cannot. let go of his rage. Now, Zemo will. return in the Falcon the Winter Soldier. series where he dons his comic accurate.

purple mask and is finally revealed to. be a Baron with incredible dance moves. Bucky and Zemo make amends during that. series, and Zemo winds up back in. prison, this time on the raft. Back in. Avengers Compound, Vision holds a rook. chest piece, the one piece on the board. that represents an inanimate object. instead of a person. Tony helps Roadie. with his rehab. It's still Rodie at this. point, I'm pretty sure. Stan Lee cameos. as a FedEx delivery guy. >> Are you Tony's stank? Steve's letter. leaves Tony with a flip phone which Tony. will later call in Infinity War. The. final image of the film shows Steve.

rescuing Sam and the others except Scott. Lang and Clint Barton from the raft. Once in the light, now in darkness, his. stars and strikes identity left behind. him and now the countryless nomad. identity. His return in Infinity War is. a parallel step in from the shadows. This ongoing presence of the raft as far. deep into Captain America: Brave New. World with the leader Samuel Sterns as. another inmate predicting incursions and. President Red Hulk Ross there as well. Many do believe that the raft could be. used as a life raft to fy some Marvel. characters to Battle World in Avengers. Doomsday and Secret Wars. But as we end.

this movie, neither Tony nor Cap won the. Civil War. Neither changed the other's. mind. They're both weaker now. Both hurt. their friends because of their blindness. to reason. Cap because of his dead. girlfriend Peggy. Tony because of his. dead mommy. And their division will. cause both of them to end Infinity War. kind of knocked on their asses. Really, I believe the one to maintain the moral. high ground in this movie is the one who. fought on both teams, Natasha Romangh. While traumatic reveals led to mistakes. by the others, Natasha lives with the. red in her ledger all day and she just. bounces when it gets too personal. And. the smartest point that anyone makes in.

this debate, the point that ends up. being the truest in Infinity War and. Endgame was Natasha Romanov's totally. ignored hope. >> Staying together is more important than. how we stay together. >> And because they didn't listen to her, that's how the Avengers will lose. together. Now, in the postredit scene, Bucky goes back on ice and Wakanda. He. will spend some time there between now. and Infinity War working on undoing the. Hydra brainwashing. Bucky will become. the white wolf of Wakanda, the other. broken white boy for Shuri to fix. Seeing this statue of Bost appear. through the mist here does make me think. the Rooster brothers might recreate this.

shot to reveal another version of. Wakanda as part of Battle World at the. end of Doomsday. And in another. postredit scene, Peter tells Aunt May. that he fought a Steve from Brooklyn and. his huge friend before lighting up his. Spidey signal. I guess this takes place. right after we see Peter get dropped off. back at his apartment by Tony and Happy. Hogan in Spider-Man Homecoming. That's. all the new details that we found in.
