The scepter had. fallen into Baron Wolf Gang Von. Strucker's hands following the battle of. New York thanks to Sitwell and Rumbllo. in Avengers Tower because Hydra had been.

secretly infiltrating SHIELD since the. end of World War II. When that. conspiracy was revealed and Shield. dismantled during the events of Captain. America: The Winter Soldier, the. Avengers went looking for the scepter. That movie's postredit scene found the. scepter in the hands of von Strucker as. he was experimenting with the twins. And. we see them here, Petro and Wanda. Maximoff stand next to the scepter. They. are played by Aaron Taylor Johnson who. would later go on to be Craven and. Elizabeth Olsen, fresh off Godzilla. 2014, where she and Aaron Taylor Johnson. played a married couple. The Maximoffs. are mutants in the comics and the.

children of Magneto. This script avoids. the term mutants instead calling them. enhanced. >> We have an enhance in the field. This. was due to a deal that was struck. between Disney and Fox at the time, which were different studios back then, because the Fox X-Men franchise through. 2014's X-Men: Days of Future Past, of. course, had their own Quicksilver, played by Evan Peters. So, the deal was. that Marvel could only feature the. Maximoffs in Avengers: Age of Ultron if, one, they were never called mutants. Two, Quicksilver never joins the. Avengers, and three, their connection to. the X-Men and Magneto is never spoken. of. The name Quicksilver is never. mentioned, but Tony does call Wanda a.

witch. >> That little witch is messing with your. mind. Now, of course, Wanda won't be. called the Scarlet Witch until the W. division series. And now that mutants. have been officially brought into the. MCU, it could just be understood that. Wanda and Pro were born as mutants, and. that the mind stone in the scepter. activated their mutant genes. It seems. to be their genetic mutation that. enabled them to survive Striker's. experiments. Jos Sweden jumps straight. into the action with this tracking shot, similar to the one that he used during. the Battle of New York in the Avengers. in 2012. This one's an even more. ambitious version of the shot that goes.

even longer. In the middle of it, you. can even hear a Wilhelm scream, the. famous sound effect that's used. throughout cinema. >> We are following the Avengers charge. onto the Hydra base in Sacobia, ending. with the full lineup frame together, and. our hero's eloquent opening words. >> [ __ ] language. >> Overall, this is probably Steve Rogers. funniest movie with Steve getting more. quips and physical gags than he normally. gets. Tony is now wearing the Mark 43. suit upgraded from his shatterprone Mark. 42 in Iron Man 3. He's got a satellite. backup from Jarvis.

>> The central building is protected by. some kind of energy [music] shield. >> This satellite deploys Veronica anywhere. worldwide. And if you look closely, you. can see the compartment holding the. Hulkbuster labeled on the satellite. The. name Veronica is a nod to Archie comics. with Bruce torn between Betty and. Veronica. Jarvis gets lots of love. >> Jarvis, take the wheel. >> Yes, sir. Approach vector is locked. >> As in Jesus, take the wheel or Jesus is. my co-pilot. foreshadowing Jarvis's new. form as the godlike vision of this. movie. And I love the detail that as he.

says this, you can see Jarvis's orange. hologram appear. This is the first time. Jarvis's soul has been colorcoded in. this movie. They color him orange to. compare with Ultron's blue because this. movie was a prime example of the blue. versus orange color coding that was very. popular at this point in the 2010s. But. I like that they gave Jarvis's AI soul. the color orange, the color of the soul. stone. The hydra soldiers have some. high-tech weapons thanks to the scepter. In Spider-Man Homecoming, the Vultures. talons were built from parts of the. Hydra Soldiers exo suits that the DODC. salvaged from this battle. And the. Avengers have some upgrades of their own.

from Tony Stark's tech, including Cap's. magnetic bracers for his shield. Tony is. fully funding the Avengers following the. collapse of shields. And I love when Cap. throws his motorcycle at the Hydra. Soldiers. Both him and Bucky love doing. motorcycle tricks. Strucker is hesitant. to send the twins out to slow down the. Avengers, but they join the fight. regardless. They blame Tony Stark for. the death of their parents Oleg and. Arena. And they see the Avengers as just. another occupying force more interested. in destruction than peace. In episode of. Wanda Division, sword director Tyler. Hayward talks us through what their. protesting past was throughout being.

youths in Sakobia, often joining these. protests and basically raging against. Tony Stark in the Avengers. Actually, here in Sakobia, you can see some. graffiti of Iron Man holding automatic. weapons with a dollar sign covering his. face. A similar style to the artist. Banksy, who will get referenced after. Strucker is killed by Ultron. and he did. a bank seat at the crime scene just for. us. >> Sokovia is a vaguely Eastern European. nation that was part of the former. Soviet block in Marvel comics. It was. situated near Ladveria. So, it's going. to be interesting to see if there's any. mention of Sokovia in Avengers Doomsday. as we get to hear about or perhaps see.

the Latvia of the 828 universe. Perhaps. in the 616 universe, there was never a. Victor von Doom and Liveria was just. turned into Sokovia by the Soviets with. its original history erased. Baron Wolf. Gang von Strucker was a villain from. Marvel Comics, first appearing in. Sergeant Fury number five in 1963. He. was at one point the Supreme Hydra. leading the organization while also. manipulating SHIELD. Strucker starts. shelling the nearby city and Tony. deploys the Iron Legion to protect the. citizens. A lot is made of protecting. the citizens in this movie and keeping. them out of harm's way seems to be. Tony's response to try to prevent more.

civilian casualties after what happened. in the Battle of New York. Secretary of. State Thunderbolt Ross will point out in. Civil War that 177 civilians died in. Sokovia, and that includes Miam Sharp's. son of Charlie, whose death will lead. Tony to sign the Sokovia Accords. Drone. number three gets hit with acid. Later, we focus on this same damaged drone face. returning to Avengers Tower, and it is. the same century body that Ultron uses. to make his first scrappy body. The. Skovian boy in the protest, Costl, is. the same boy Clint goes to save, and Pro. dies protecting from Ultron's gunfire.

Actually, Pro's opening words to Hawkeye. here. You didn't see that coming. >> are the same as his final words. >> You didn't see that coming. >> Both Pro and Wanda have Eastern European. Sokovian accents, but Wandas will slowly. fade away over time. A the Harkness. makes fun of this in Wision. >> That accent really comes and goes, doesn't it? >> Actually, we learn in Wanda Vision that. pro and Wanda learned English from. watching old American sitcoms with their. parents. Wanda will continue to watch. those sitcoms at Avengers Compound with. Vision, as we see in Wision episode 8.

The time when Wanda learned that grief. is just love persevering, leading to her. accent completely fading away by the. time we catch up with her in Infinity. War. It's all thanks to Brian Cranston. and Malcolm in the Middle. Cap and Thor. reprise their accidental shock wave from. their earlier fight in Avengers 2012. into this sick range attack. They will collab again later with a kind. of batter up sequence. I love how. confidently they do all of these. It. makes it seem like they just spent a lot. of time doing these kind of moves, working together. Tony makes his way. into the fortress and exits his suits,

placing it in sentry mode. Ever since. Iron Man 3, Tony has been able to. remotely operate his suits, starting. with the Mark 15, and now with the Iron. Legion, he's relying on his suits more. and more to operate autonomously. While. Cap and Thor have clearly put in their. 10,000 hours working together, we see. that there's been some other experience. formed between Natash Romanov and Bruce. Banner. >> Hey big guy, sun's getting real low. >> This is a very specific and somewhat odd. thing that will come back hilariously in. Thor Ragnarok. Hey, big guy. Sun's. getting real low. Sun's going down.

[screaming]. >> Hulk reverts to Bruce Banner, a reverse. version of this process that we never. saw before. But this film never outright. shows him hulking out. Cap confronts. Strucker. >> Baron Strucker, Hydra's number one thug. Technically, I'm a thug for shield. Well, then technically, you're. unemployed. >> Cap's next foe will also be a baron. Baron Zemo. They love their baronss in. Zobia. In the background, Wanda skulks. around in the shadows with glowing red. eyes, similar to the moment when she. kills Professor X in Multiverse of. Madness. She blasts Cap and does this.

creepy sped up backwards walk. Freaky. Wanda backwards walked so that Freaky. Nikki could backwards run. Tony finds. the Hydra workshop where they have a. full Chitauri Leviathan and are building. the first round of bots that will soon. become the Ultron Centuries. We learn. Strucker got the plans for these. machines from the code inside of the. scepter, aka Ultron himself. Wanda puts. Tony in a vision recreating his wormhole. trauma in the Endgame nightmare. His. friends defeated, Cap's shield broken, just like Thanos does in Endgame. A. dying Steve says to Tony, "You could.

have saved us. Why didn't you do more?". >> This vision will haunt Tony Stark and. drive his actions all the way through. Infinity War and even Endgame, putting. him at odds with Steve and splitting the. team apart. The irony of Steve in this. vision, asking, "Why didn't you do more. when the real Steve will be his biggest. obstacle to doing more?" It's clear that. Wanda sees this terrifying vision as. well. Elizabeth Olsen developed her. unique hand movements as Wanda with a. dance and movement coach from London. named Jennifer White. She said in an. interview, "At the beginning, I didn't. know what it would look like, so I felt.

very vulnerable. Everyone was punching. and stuff, shooting fake arrows, whatever, and I am not doing that.". Olsson has been known to show off her. magic casting skills in interviews. >> We start off with like a center energy. kind of thing. There it is. Look at it. LOOK AT THE FINGERS. GET A CLOSEUP ON. HER FINGERS. >> TRY A MICROSC. >> INTERESTINGLY, the actor who plays her. son, Billy Maximoff, Joe Lock, also. trained with Jennifer White when. developing his character for Agatha all. along. Tony uses his gauntlet to swipe. the scepter, foreshadowing his future. use of his gauntlet to snatch and wield. the Infinity Stone power to fix all of.

this mess. I like the similarities of. Tony calling his gauntlet to Thor. calling Mujolnir. They take a quinjet. back to New York City and while. recovering from his code green, Bruce. listens to the Arya Casta Diva from the. 1931 opera Norma by Venenzo Bellinis. Castadiva translates from Italian to. chase Goddess. The song is about a high. priestess offering a prayer of peace to. the moon goddess hoping to prevent her. people from going to war with the. Romans, partly because she's secretly in. love with the Roman. Natasha and Bruce. have a somewhat secret romance in this. film, and they long to run away from the.

fight and find their own peace. Bruce. doesn't want to hear from Thor that he. sent a bunch of hydra soldiers to hell. with one L. He still sees himself as a. monster. The idea of gods and monsters. comes up a few times in Age of Ultron. And it seems like most of the team. besides Thor and probably Tony see. themselves as monsters instead of gods. Grand Central Station is a new statue. honoring the first responders during the. Battle of New York. We actually saw the. previous statue, Glory of Commerce, get. destroyed during the battle in the 2012. film. Stark Tower is now officially. Avengers Tower with a more builtout. glass structure over the Quinjet landing.

pad. It's in this multi-story penthouse. where much of the action takes place. And I really love this set, specifically. the way Jos Sweden accomplishes some. scenic geography by following that one. damage number three Iron Legion drone as. he flies in all glitched into the lower. quarters, which is kind of like treating. the Iron Legions as the help, you know, loading in, following him in all the way. into where all the other Iron Legion. drones are stored and deployed, lying in. wait for Ultron to take over this body. And the camera shows exactly where that. is. Under the beach like a powder keg, ready to explode underneath the feet of. all these Avengers. While they're.

getting ready to party, Maria Hill is. back working out for the Avengers. Initiative since Shield collapsed under. the corruption of Hydra. Hill gives. Steve the background on Wanda and Pro. >> Wanda and Pro Maximoff, twins, orphaned. at 10 when a shell collapsed their. apartment building. So, Kovia's had a. rough history. It's nowhere special, but. it's on the way to everywhere special. their abilities. >> He's got increased metabolism and. improved thermal homeostasis. Her thing. is neuroelectric interfacing, telekinesis, mental manipulation. >> We will revisit Wanda and Petra's.

backstory in a bit. Wanda's powers will. later be identified as pure chaos magic. in Wanda division. We're not sure how. much Shield knew about the magic and the. mystic arts at this time, but in season. 4 of Agents of Shield, which came out in. 2016, there was an appearance of the. Darkholds in that continuity, but the. tome would appear again in Wision in the. possession of Agatha Harkness. And we. learn that the Scarlet Witch is. prophecied in that dark hole to bring. about the end of the world. >> Did you know there's an entire chapter. devoted to you in the dark hole? That's. the book of the damned. The Scarlet.

Witch is not born. She is forged. She. has no coven or need for incantation. I'm not a witch. I don't cast spells. No. one taught me magic. >> Your power exceeds that of the sorcerer. supreme. It's your destiny to destroy. the world. >> But in this moment, Maria Hill just kind. of boils it down to he's fast and she's. weird. The twins latent mutant abilities. were activated during experiments with. the mindstone inside the scepter. All. other subjects died. When Hill says that. it's nuts that the twins volunteered for. Stucker's experiments, Steve quips,

>> "What kind of monster would let a German. scientist experiment on them to protect. their country?". >> Yeah, more play on that gods and. monsters idea. Dr. Helen Cho in the. comics is a mother to Amadeus Cho, a kid. who becomes a new generation of the. Hulk. Back in Captain America: Winter. Soldier, Sitwell speculated that there. was a validictorian in Iowa City that. many speculated could be Amadeus Cho, specifically Amadeus Cho has appeared in. the animated your friendly neighborhood. Spider-Man series. And there was some. speculation that there was a deleted. scene from Captain America: Brave New. World that would have shown Amodus Cho. as a scientist working for Stark. Industries. Helen Cho uses human tissue.

technology to heal Clint's wounds. >> This is the next thing, Tony. Your. clunky metal suits are going to be left. in the dust. >> Oh, that is exactly the plan. Tony's. technology will fail in Avengers. Infinity War and leave him in Peter. Parker's dust. Tony and Bruce examine. the scepter. The object holding the. scepter upright is actually a clutch for. Car's manual transmission. And hanging. up in the background are Banner's. elastic pants for when he hulks out. This period of Bruce and Tony working. together in Avengers Tower has always. led me to believe that there is a gamma.

lab somewhere on site here. And it was. that abandoned gamma lab that might have. irdiated a spider that bit Peter Parker. to give him his powers sometime in late. 2015. Jarvis's hologram sphere is. modeled on an Aory, an old timey. mechanical solar system model. The. Mindstone's organic programming hologram. shifts shape. This contrast reflects the. opposing philosophies between Vision and. Ultron. Vision sees order and chaos as. fitting within the universe's clockwork. Ultron is more unstable because his. intelligence comes from some mysterious. cosmic source of the mind stone, one of. the Infinity Stones. Tony wants to use.

this new AI to launch Ultron. He makes. his pitch to Bruce to help him figure. out the Ultron AI in three days, saying, "What if you were sipping margaritas on. a sundrrench beach turning brown instead. of green? Not looking over your shoulder. for Veronica. >> Don't hate. I helped design Veronica.". >> As a worst case measure, >> a nice tease for Veronica's appearance. later. Antony and Bruce will spend time. sipping margaritas on a beach during the. blip. As we learn in She-Hulk Attorney. at Law, when they had their Mexican. beach house together with its own gamma. lab, that's when Bruce worked in that. game lab to become the smart Hulk. They.

continue. >> So, you're going for artificial. intelligence and you don't want to tell. the team. >> That's right. You know why? Cuz we don't. have time for a city hall debate. And then finally, we get these two big. lines. >> I see a suit of armor around the world. Peace in our time. Imagine that. >> Suit of armor around the world sure. sounds like something Dr. Doom might say. or think or feel. When Robert Downey Jr. first appeared at Comic- Con announcing.

his role as Victor von Doom in Avengers. Doomsday. He said. >> new mask [cheering]. >> same task. >> Whether or not that's the theme of. Avengers Doomsday or just some quick. marketing jargon that sounded good at. the time. We know that Dr. Doom will be. fighting to save his world or at least. trying to recover what he lost from the. Avengers meddling with time and using. the broken pieces of what he plans to. destroy to build a new better world. The. phrase peace in our time is attributed. to British Prime Minister Neville. Chamberlain who after negotiating with.

Hitler in 1938 called it peace for our. time. As it is for Tony, it's a naive. sentiment, but also to be fair, a. historically worthwhile effort since. Chamberlain's negotiations allowed. Britain some vital time to build. munitions and Tony's meddling ultimately. yielded vision. While they're all. sleeping, Ultron awakens. >> What is this? What is this, please? >> From darkness, there's a glimmer of. light evoking a spark of existence in. the book of Genesis. Much of Ultron's. rationale is Bible- based in this movie. >> The elders decreed it so that everyone. could be equally close to God. Upon this.

rock, I will build my church. The human. race will have every opportunity to. improve. >> And if they don't, >> ask Noah. >> Ultron definitely sees himself as a god. and not some kind of Frankenstein's. monster created by Tony. In Ultron's. crash course through humanity, he. speedreads the Bible without life. experience to understand it. With Ultron. being created by Tony Stark, I wonder if. he stuck with Christianity to remain. closer to his creator rather than. adapting to another religion. James. Spader emphasized Ultron's relative. youth. Despite his Stark-like cattiness,

he also erupts like a teenager. throughout this movie. >> Stark is I'm sorry. I'm Oh, I'm sure. that's going to be okay. I'm sorry. It's. just I don't understand. >> WAIT, GUYS. Leave me alone. It's really fun to go frame by frame. through this Ultron speedread. Ultron. flickers past images of the first Iron. Man film as well as a deaged Howard. Stark and they combine the faces of. Dominick Cooper in John Slatterie. Maybe.

this is how he looked at the 1954 Stark. Expo because its poster shows up here in. the background. There's also a newspaper. headline reading, "Who is the Iron Man?". Tony at his infamous press conference, weapon manuals, Stark Tower, and the. Iron Man Hope style poster. We see an. article declaring Tony is Iron Man. Can. this man save you? I mean, he is going. to save the whole universe. We see. images of the other Avengers from. previous films. There's the crater where. Mjolnir landed in New Mexico, Sam Wilson. as Falcon, Shield files on Clint Barton, Roadie as War Machine, and information.

on Bruce Banner and Maria Hill. Nick. Fury shows up as deceased, and Natasha's. file details how Fury sent Clint Barton. to take her out, but they were able to. flip her to serve SHIELD. Ultron views. Steve Rogers history with the super. soldier program and information on Peggy. Carter. Then, some real world imagery. We see peace figures like Pope Francis, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and references to. war, European settlers versus indigenous. tribes, World War II, the Berlin Wall, the Vietnam War, Bosnia, the Gulf War, Operation Enduring Freedom, all mixed. with plenty of gravestones in an image.

of Captain America and Tony standing in. front of his missiles in the first Iron. Man. Ultron views these as mutually. exclusive. But as Vision observes later, human history has always been a mix of. order and chaos. In the mix is a woodcut. from Dante's Inferno, the Divine Comedy. Inferno KTO 21. The demons threatened. Virgil by Gustav Dor. So along with the. Bible, Ultron also read biblical. allegorories. This image perhaps gave. him his inspiration for his cloak. Later, Vision will later lecture Ultron. >> There is grace in their failings. I. think you missed that. >> But that missed lesson is this. overlooked quote from Aristotle here in.

this sequence. Educating the mind. without educating the heart is no. education at all. Ultron can only. educate his mind, but Tony's strength is. heart power. Throughout these movies, Tony survived his heart attack. Ultron. really doesn't. Ultron ends up. destroying Jarvis and notice Jarvis's. core twitches kind of like an eye in. pain. But there's no time to worry. because it's party time. I kind of like. getting all the Avenger character. vignettes here. Roadie dropping the most. important line in the MCU. >> Boom. You looking for this? >> We get a little moment where Sam Wilson. catches up Steve Rogers on what's.

happening with Bucky. >> Very happy chasing co leads on our. missing person's case. Sam Wilson's. Falcon will be part of the Avengers. lineup by the end of this film. But. later in his life, Sam Wilson will face. a lot of challenges when he has to take. on the shield, including getting a bank. loan. Though, Steve also laments that he. can't afford a place in Brooklyn. >> Find a place in Brooklyn yet? I don't. think I can afford a place in Brooklyn. >> President Ross will ask Sam to rebuild. the Avengers in Brave New World, something he's hesitant to do. He'll. eventually wind up suing the new. Avengers, and he'll be leading the OG. faction of the Avengers in Avengers. Doomsday. Sam makes Cap homesick. Well,

home is home, you know, >> because for Steve, home is in the past. with Peggy Carter, and home is dead for. now. It's Steve creating his new home. for himself during the time heist that. will draw the eye of Dr. Doom. Meanwhile, Thor drinks with all these. vets, including Stan Lee, who utters his. signature signoff, >> Egg Shell Shield. >> They drink thousand-year-old Asgardian. liquor from Grunhill's fleet. Though. there's no mention of Grunhill in Marvel. Comics or Norse mythology. The drink. stuns the vets, but it doesn't faze. Steve, who cannot get drunk. Natasha's.

cocktails are red and black, her black. widow colors, and the two martini. glasses when stacked end to end would. form her hourglass logo. Later, we see. that she kept a gun under the bar, explaining why she worked the bar. She. was on watch duty. Steve figures out. that Bruce and Natasha have a thing. going on. Steve mentions, >> "I've seen her flirt up close. This. ain't that.". >> Yeah, pretty much confirming that Steve. and Natasha totally hooked up at some. point during or after Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Next comes the test. of strength. You. >> have seen this before, right? Clint calls back when he oversaw Thor.

trying to lift the hammer back in the. 2011 film. Tony says that if he lifts. it, he will rule Asgard and reinstate. Primaa, which is a feudal idea that. supposedly allowed medieval lords to. have sex with female subjects on their. wedding night. You might remember that. from Braveheart. Interestingly, there's. not actual real historical evidence that. this existed. Braveheart just kind of. popularized this idea. Either way, it's. very ick joke from Uncle Tony. Bruce. does a Hulk fake out, which nobody buys. Ah, he will later hate pretending to be. Savage Hulk during the time heist in. Endgame. But here's a big moment where. Steve is able to budge Mjolnir ever so.

slightly, setting up this big moment in. Avengers Endgame. >> I knew it. >> Kevin Feige later explained that Steve. Rogers was always worthy, but he faked. it to spare Thor's pride during this. party. And before the events of Thor. Ragnarok, Thor's pride was really key to. his power. His entanglement in strings is the. first of his Pinocchio motif. The puppet. who comes to life but remains stuck in. an artificial middle stage that's not. quite flesh. Ultron later sings I've got.

that it was actually Tachaka, who was an. active Black Panther for 100 years prior. to this, suggesting that Wakandans live. a longer lifespan. Or maybe just those. who consumed the heart-shaped herb lived. longer. Or maybe it's just saying that. one of Tachaka's predecessors was the. one who killed Ulys's claw. Definitely. watch Eyes of Wakanda. It tells you the. full history of the Wakandans before. this at different points of history. Also a Belgian warlord in central Africa. in the late 1800s. I think they're. implying that Claw's great-grandfather. was based on or was associated with the. Belgian King Leopold II, one of the.

worst war criminals in all of human. history who committed atrocious war. crimes in central Africa, not far from. where the fictional Wakanda is located. This file also notes that Claw was a. former member of the Intelligencia. We. would later see a form of the. Intelligencia in She-Hulk Attorney at. Law, which Claw did not appear to be a. member of since he was dead at that. point. But the reference in this case. was to the Intelligencia in Marvel. comics, a group composed of various. villains that Claw was also a member of. at one point. Even a smart guy like. also gotten vibranium from the. telekineal. I assume these transactions. got reversed at some point, which is why. Claw ends up working for Killilmonger in. the Black Panther film. Ultron quotes. Stark and Claw thinks that means he's. under Stark's control, which pisses off. Ultron, and he cuts off Claw's arm, something Black Panther does in the. comics. Amputations like this happened. about once per film in the phase 2 films. of Marvel Studios. So, this is the time. it happens in Age of Ultron. Claw will. also have his new comic accurate Sonic. arm cannon in the Black Panther film. Maybe he was able to spend a couple. billion before it got taken back. The. Avengers arrive as Ultron rants about.

being compared to Tony Stark. There's a. lot of similarities between the. relationship of Stark and Ultron and. Frankenstein and his monster in Mary. Shel's Frankenstein. Tony creates life, his own Stark's monster, which takes a. human form. The creation turns out to be. highly intelligent and learns about the. nature of humanity. And in the end, the. creator wants to destroy his monster, and the creation seeks to get revenge on. his creator. As the two sides battle, Wanda gives them nightmares. Thor. returns to Asgard with Heimdoll, foreshadowing Ragnarok and Infinity War. >> You're a destroyer, Odinson. See where your power leads.

If you look closely, maybe a version of the tetra detoxin B. serum that Fury used to fake his death. Banner developed it even though it. didn't work. Hulk spits out a tooth. I'll call back to Abomination doing this. in the 2008 film. Really though, by the. time he spits it out, he's already grown. back a new tooth. Hulk swats Veronica's. backup tech back at her to destroy both. Tony drops a building on him, and just. before he does, he fires rockets at the.

building to make sure it implodes and. falls on its own footprint, preventing. any collateral damage. As he comes to, Hulk sees the fear and the chaos he's. caused among the civilians. More reason. why he chooses to leave the planet at. the end of the film. Hulk gets punched. out of frame, calling back his great hit. on Thor in the 2012 film. This will be. the last time we see fully savage Hulk. until Spider-Man: Brand New Day. if you. don't include the additional scenes that. they include in Avengers Endgame. Clint. brings the game to a secret family farm. He mentions that Fury kept Barton's. family off the books. So, it makes sense. that Ultron wouldn't necessarily know to. find them there. When Tony sees Laura.

Barton, he says, >> "This is an agent of some kind.". >> Hey, technically, he's right. We learn. in the Hawkeye series that Laura Barton. formerly worked for SHIELD as agent 19. Mockingbird. As Thor takes off to. investigate his vision, Steve hears the. voice of Peggy saying, >> "We can go home.". >> The man out of time continues to feel. lost and just wants to keep fighting. He'll eventually find his home with. Peggy, but it will lead to the events of. Avengers Doomsday. I love how Laura. Barton looks at Steve when she says, >> "But I see those guys, those gods.". >> She doesn't see the Avengers as.

monsters, but Natasha and Bruce try and. fail to get closer and share a moment. where they both explain why they feel. like monsters. Bruce because of the. danger he poses to everyone, and Natasha. because she was forced to have a. hysterctomy in the red room. Yeah, Natasha's reasoning is definitely some. unfortunate writing from Jos Sweden. Being unable to have a child does not. make one a monster. And I understand. that that's just how Natasha feels. But. either way, it's kind of unfair to force. a female character to feel that way. There's plenty of other red in Natasha's. ledger for her to feel like a monster. over than this thing. For example, firebombing an innocent girl. Steve and. Tony split logs and foreshadowed their.

coming divide in Civil War. >> Earth's mightiest heroes pulled us apart. like cotton candy. It. >> seems like you walked away all right. >> Steve suffers from trauma as well. But. while Tony's panic attacks are public, the man from the bottle keeps it all. bottled up. >> Isn't that the mission? Isn't that the. why we fight? So we can end the fight so. we get to go home. >> Every time someone tries to win a war. before it starts, innocent people die. Every time. >> The word home triggers Steve's rage here. because home is dead for now. The.

Avengers efforts to stop Thanos once and. forever in order to go back to the home. they had before the blip will only. awaken a greater enemy in another part. of the multiverse. In the barn, Clint's. archery target, which shows up in. Endgame, has only the bullseye torn up. because he never misses. Nick Fury. returns. >> Artificial intelligence. journey into night, a play about a. dysfunctional family reflecting the. dysfunctional Avengers family that he. needs Daddy Fury to set straight. Tony. confides in Nick about what he saw in. Wanda's vision. Fury downplays his fear, but truthfully, he understands more than. anyone how Tony feels. Fury's. interaction with the CRE in the9s has. constantly motivated him to prepare. Earth for a much greater threat. But. rather than admit that Tony's right, he. wants to build confidence in him and the. rest of the Avengers so that they're. ready for the fight when it comes. Tony. says, >> "Watching my friends dive, you'd think. that'd be as bad as it gets, right?" But.

>> nope. Wasn't the worst part. >> The worst part is that you didn't. This. revelation is likely what drives Tony to. sacrifice himself as part of Doctor. Strange's one plan to defeat Thanos. Thor and Dr. Selvig head to the water of. sight, allowing Thor to reflect back on. his nightmare. He sees the four Infinity. Stones revealed so far, space, mind, reality, and power gathering in an. orange nebula that looks like the. Infinity Gauntlet. This is the image. that he saw in the vision from Wanda. He. also sees Tony chuckle from the earlier. scene when he said, >> "That's the endgame.". >> So Thor's quest here forhadows both.

Infinity War and Endgame. There was more. to this scene that was ultimately. removed from the film where Thor was. possessed by Norn, mythical Norse. beings, and explains more about the. meaning behind the infinity stones. >> The mind stone that rules perception. that molds the mind's monsters. It. carved out your will and still you don't. see. This explains why Thor is also. adamant later about trusting the vision. because he's part of Thor's vision for. stopping the coming threat. Back at the. farm, Fury rallies the Avengers. Now, in.

the years after Age of Ultron, some said. that Fury in this movie must be a scroll. since Far From Home showed us some Fury. Taylor scroll swapping. And here in this. scene, Fury cuts the bread. But in the. 2019 Captain Marvel film, Fury told. Carol, "Toast is cut diagonally. I can't. eat it.". >> But this is not an example of anything. because bread is not toast, and Fury. definitely cuts it horizontally here to. make another rectangle. The real. question is, why did he cut a raw piece. of bread at all? If you're just going to. snack on bread, just pull the whole. slice apart. But when you give actors. busy work with food over dozens and. dozens of takes, they start to fail.

psychopath tests pretty quickly. Bruce. recalls what Ultron said to them earlier. about humans. >> They don't need to be protected. They. need to evolve. Ultron's going to. evolve. >> Perhaps Ultron was hoping to awaken the. mutant gene within humans by causing an. extinction level event. Though he does. later admit that the only living thing. in this world will be metal. So maybe he. didn't want humans to evolve after all. Maybe he only wanted Colossus to. survive. Tony goes to the Nexus and I. love how this background intern gets her. friend to take a photo with Tony. Actually, in the animated What If. series, this nexus location was a. setting for the Avengers last stand.

against Ultron in that timeline where. Ultron ultimately succeeded and killed. Thanos to become Ultron Infinity. It's. fascinating to revisit this movie and. imagine what would have happened if. Ultron succeeded. I actually think that. we will see that in live action. In the. Secret Wars comics, a division of battle. world from a universe where Ultron. succeeded was called Perfection. And in. the Vision Quest trailer, we see a city. beyond Ultron's window that I think. might be a depiction of that perfection. city in the MCU. a hypothetical tech. utopia created out of the hypothetical. ashes of Earth. After Vision hurled the. Skovian city at it in Soul, South Korea,

Ultron reveals the mindstone in the. jewel of the scepter, he uses Dr. Cho's. cradle to bond the vibranium atoms with. the organic tissue being used to. construct the android body. Placing the. mindstone in the head, Ultron begins the. process of uploading his cerebral matrix. to the body. This is how Vision will. have part of Ultron in his programming, as we'll see more of in the upcoming. Vision Quest series. Wanda interprets. this as dreaming, already seeing the. android body as separate from Ultron and. more humanlike. But in these dreams, she. sees Ultron's plan, and this will begin. to turn the twins against him. Ultron.

makes another biblical reference to. Noah, saying that humanity must improve. >> When the earth starts to settle, God. throws a stone at it. And believe me, he's winding up. We have to evolve. There's no room for the weak. And. >> who decides who's weak? life. Life all his designs. >> Ultron sees himself as the god throwing. the stone at Earth, forcing its next. evolution. But the Avengers arrive and.

take the cradle and Hawkeye reverse. thrusts the Quinjet to scoop it. The. twins decide to help Steve and Subway. gets destroyed in the process, part of. the long history of public transit. destruction in the MCU. During the. chase, Ultron takes Natasha back to the. Skovian base. He destroys himself to. show his new vibranium form, his third. and final form. Earlier films show the. gradual evolution of Iron Man and. Captain America shield from the box of. scraps era to a solid prototype to a. sexy upgrade. And Ultron goes through. these three stages of evolution as well. From his box of scraps crappy form to a.

solid prototype to this sex pot all in. one movie. Stark and Bruce debate. >> I'm I'm in a loop. I'm caught in a time. loop. This is exactly where it all went. wrong. >> I know it's not a loop. It's the end of the line. This also kind. of sets up Avengers Endgame, which fixes. this dark timeline with time loops that. result in the end of the line for Tony. Tony reveals that he found Jarvis still. alive at the Nexus and convinces Bruce. to help him put Jarvis into this. synthoid body. Steve arrives back at the. tower with the twins and there's this.

standoff. Bruce shows a little of his. dark side when he sees Wanda. >> I know you're angry. >> Oh, we're way past that. I could choke. the life out of you and never change. your shade. >> That's his secret. He's always angry. Petro pulls a plug on the cradle and. Steve and Tony scuffle a prelude to. their coming fight in Civil War. But. Thor arrives and gives Vision this spark. of life. Notice that the first human. that Vision lays eyes on is Wanda, imprinting on her like a newborn, along. with the way he swoops in to save her. later. That really does set up their. relationship. By far the MCU's strongest.

love story. Since Wanda's power was. fully activated by the mindstone that. lives on in Vision's head, she will. always have a part of Vision's soul. inside of her. She'll uses to recreate. Vision in the Westview Hex, telling him, >> "You, Vision, are the piece of the mind stone that. lives in me.". >> And perhaps we'll see in Vision Quest. that a piece of Wanda continues to live. on in this new version of Vision. After. taking a moment to process now being a. living being, Vision creates clothes for. himself, similar to Adam and Eve eating.

the forbidden fruit and suddenly. realizing they're nude. Vision decides. that he likes the look of Thor's cape. and creates one for himself. So yes, Vision's name in the MCU at least does. come from Thor. >> I've had a vision. >> It could be this connection to Thor and. the lightning that gave him life that. enables him to wield Mjolnir, but Vision. is also a pure form of humanity. And. since he has no malicious intent, he is. worthy by the Odin Force's standards. Does that make him a god or does it make. him a monster? >> You think I'm a child of Ultron? >> You're not. >> I'm not Altron. I'm not Jarvis. I am. >> Maybe I am a monster. I don't think I'd.

know if I were one and not what you are. and not what you intended. So, there may. be no way to make you trust me, but we. need to go. >> Vision is more than just Jarvis in an. android body. Skovia, that man is playing solitire. Thought we wouldn't notice, but we did. Wanda puppets some of the citizens of. Skovia to get them out of their houses. and to safety. A little practice for her. puppeting of the citizens of Westview. during the hex. Bruce rescues Natasha. and they consider running away for a.

moment, but Natasha forces out the Hulk. and they get to work. Ultron levitates. the city to turn into a gravity meteor. And by the way, the Eternals are nowhere. to be seen cuz they suck. Ultron wiping. out life on Earth would really set back. the incubation period for the celestial. justating inside of the planet. But I. guess the Eternals just don't care. Geno's too busy being in movies. Steve. gives this rallying speech. >> You get hurt, hurt him back. You get. killed, walk it off. The camera cuts to Petra. when he says, "If you get killed," but. it cuts to Wanda for, "If you get hurt, hurt him back." And later, when Ultron. breaks her heart by killing her brother,

she rips out his heart. During the. battle, Clint gives Wanda this pep talk. >> The city is flying. We're fighting an. army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow. None of this. makes sense. If you go out there, you. [music] fight, and you fight to kill. Stay in here, you're good. I'll send. your brother to come find you. [music]. But if you step out that door, you are. an Avenger. Wanda will be part of the. new Avengers squad by the end of this. movie. Fighting alongside the team at. the beginning of Civil War, Doctor. Strange's attempt to get her back on the. team during Multiverse Madness will fail. miserably.

>> Come to comage. We'll get you back on the lunchbox. >> I like the little detail that Hawkeye. fires his arrow through the hole that. just got blasted through the wall. And. shortly after this, he will hilariously. threaten Pietro, calling back his. frustration with him in the Scobian. forest at the beginning of the movie. >> Nobody would know I miss him already. Now, during all of this, Steve has to. rescue some folks from a bridge who. stayed in their cars when the city. started rising into the sky. I guess. Ultron was right and some of these folks. really do need to evolve. Steve's over. strength causes the bumper to rip off. and the car to fall and Thor comes in.

for the rescue, but it leads to this. amazing collaboration where Cap tosses. up the shield and Thor kind of bats it. And we follow Cap's shield through all. of these Ultron centuries. Again, the. casualness of this move suggests that. they've done this before. Two living. hydra soldiers. But Cap's got some. additional backup as Fury, Hill, Klene, and Roadie rise up through a. helicarrier, a helicarrier that they had. offline from the corrupting forces of. Hydra. And the heroes all face Ultron. with his centuries at this church after. a moving divided. They return in this. slow motion group shot, and it is. awesome. This particular trigger device.

that Ultron's trying to hit as a capture. the flag maneuver to drop the whole city. is the same key part that Peter Parker. will find in DODC storage in Spider-Man. Homecoming. As Ultron and his centuries. all try to escape now, the team splits. up to make sure no trace of Ultron will. ever get away. Wanda and Pro have their. final moment together. And in the. background, you can see one Ultron. sentry still functioning, reaching for. the device. This is the sentry that will. ultimately drop the whole city by. touching the key. Spider-Man Homecoming, Peter Parker will. find an Ultron Century head with its red. eyes still glowing, suggesting that it. might possess Ultron's consciousness. And yes, we know that a part of Ultron. will live on inside of Vision and will. return in Vision Quest. James Spader. said that since the events of this. movie, Age of Ultron, a version of.
