🚨New Mexico STRIKES BACK…

Donald Trump's attack on New Mexico is. blowing up in his face. He didn't know. who he was messing with, the proud. people of New Mexico, led by an. incredible governor, Governor Michelle. Luhan Gisham. And New Mexico is striking. back. You have Governor Gisham posting. the following message. She says, "Our. name represents more than 400 years of. history. The Spanish colony of Noeo, Mexico, dates to the late 1500s, and. Santa Fe was established as its capital.

in 1610. Today, Santa Fe is the oldest. state capital in the United States. Changing our name isn't supposed to be. easy. Our constitution was designed so. that amending it requires more than one. person or one government. Deciding they. want something different. To change New. Mexico's name, a constitutional. amendment would first have to receive. the required approval in both chambers. of the New Mexico legislature. Then it. would have to go before the New Mexico. voters. A majority of New Mexicans. voting on the amendment would have to.

approve it. Our name carries centuries. of history, culture, and identity. If. anyone wants to change it, New Mexicans. get the final say. And she also says, "New Mexico's name isn't up for debate. It's been ours since before the United. States existed. When Donald Trump tries. to distract the Americans from his. disastrous war in Iran, the price of. gas, and everything else that keeps on. rising, this is what he's doing. Under. Democratic leadership here in New. Mexico, we're providing families with.

free child care and college, protecting. access to health care, and investing in. housing. While the White House wastes. time coloring on maps, no, Mexico is. busy doing all the work. I want to bring. in my exclusive interview that I just. had with New Mexico's incredible. governor, Michelle Luhan Gisham. Let's. bring in my interview with Governor. Gisham. You're going to want to watch. this full interview. It is she's. incredible. The interview with her is. incredible because she's incredible. Watch it.

Now, I want to bring in New Mexico. Governor Michelle Luhan Gisham. Governor. Luhan Gisham. Great to see. I want to. talk first about Donald Trump's attack. on New Mexico. Frankly, the name of New. Mexico. I mean, it is childish. It is. cruel. It is unusual. I wanted to get. the feedback from you that Donald Trump. and he's been saying it at this uh. bizarre midterm convention and and he. was having like Republicans from the.

state cheer on the name change as well. to to America, New America, whatever. there. What what's your response to all. that? >> Well, first of all, yeah, you did it for. me. It is ridiculous and it's uh part. and parcel for a president that has. abandoned his responsibilities for. America. And uh it is indicative of an. individual whose immaturity leads his. efforts and decision-making. Instead of. solving real problems that American. families asked him to solve, he.

committed to solving uh including. dealing with affordability. and he's. done none of the above. And for us, it's. just laughable. We've been New Mexico. 250 years before uh we were America. It's in our constitution. He has no. power to change our name. And of course, he knows that. And so he continues to. look foolish. And New Mexicans are uh. re-engaging in their very proud. heritage. And frankly, that's good for.

me and good for us, good for America, for folks to be proud of their heritage, their ethnicity, uh their role in. building a better America. And last, uh. Republicans at that convention uh were. cheering. I guess they had to cheer. anything he said since there was nobody. there. >> You know, you can take the fraudster out. of one fraudulent office, but you'll. never take the fraud away from the. fraudster. making you you can put the.

guy who bankrupted things in the Oval. Office and who came up with Trump stakes. and water and bankrupted casinos, but. we're just seeing the shtick. And. unfortunately, we're all non-consensual. extras in this dystopian reality show. And the pattern that we seem to see is. look, catastrophic war in Iran. Where. does he go? I'm calling the straight the. Trump straight. Catastrophic trade war. against Canada. Lake Ontario is hereby. lake America. He destroys our economy. here. I'm changing New Mexico. It's the.

same stick. And I think Americans have. had it. But it's that pattern that is. connected to those failures. Right. >> I'm with you. I think Americans have. absolutely had it. And uh I think their. question, certainly mine is, is why the. people around him don't take his crayons. and markers away like you do for. toddlers right before bedtime or naps. I. it it's it's so embarrassing. and so ridiculous and uh it is because.

it's he's an absolute failure at. representing Americans in the way in. which presidents should and must. And. these attacks uh are are juvenile at. best and also they make none of that is. really going to happen and New Mexicans. know that and it's a great place for us. to remind states and other voters around. the country in 26 a what really matters.

and b that this nonsense can end if they. put the right people who are mature and. responsible. This is like me deciding. that I'm not going to apply to any of. the federal grants unless the title of. the grant is or you know the mail is. directed to the uh oval office of the. unwell. I mean it's it's worse than. grade school. >> Yeah. And you know in the past we could. be like you know that policy is uh.

little bit distinct from this policy and. that policy has got this nuance and. let's have this discussion. Like to your. point, it's like it's it's sick, it's. unwell, like we're we're and I say no. offense to toddlers. Like we're watching. [laughter]. the. >> cuz they act more mature, you know? And. I I say this and I don't sometimes I'm. like, you know, this is like North Korea. with and then I go honestly and I and I. don't mean this is not a me applauding. any other foreign regimes. I go, we're.

more embarrassing than anything. Like, I. don't know what I don't know any example. out there. >> When you think it can't get worse, it. does. I'll tell you this, uh, for for. all of these attacks, including this one. on New Mexico, its name, its heritage, um, it is also indicative that for, uh, a president that I believe, uh, knows. he's not going to win, uh, uh, that, uh, his failures are going to be significant.

in the 26 election cycle, that he sees. New Mexico delivering on the working. family promises that he made, but did. the exact opposite. And so he does. anything else he can do. He starts to. try to like pick apart names and uh. these immature fights uh because he. needs these distractions. We know. they're distractions and he needs them. because he's got nothing. nothing to campaign on in terms of.

delivering for Americans. and his failed. unconstitutional war in Iran is. escalating and he certainly doesn't want. Americans talking about that. But too. late because we are talking about it uh. and we know his failures. They're. incredibly dangerous for the well-being. of the world and they're incredibly. inappropriate for the focuses that we. need on everyday working Americans who.

deserve so much more from everyone who. is elected on their behalf. >> Let's talk about some successes uh lots. of successes in New Mexico. That is New. Mexico universal child care. I want you. to talk about it for our viewers and. listeners who don't know that it's a. template for what we could be doing. nationwide, but also the MAGA. Republicans in the state, these kind of. Trump acts. They did everything they can.

to try to sue you and block it and they. tried to rip the they they acted like. this was the worst thing imaginable and. you persevered. You fought I mean you. always have your whole career, but talk. to us about the program and how it's. working. Well, thank you. Um, it is. something I'm very proud of because it. it shows that if you are working with. the families uh who elected you and you. lean into the policies that you know.

create equity, well-being, uh, economic. development, uh, they will work. stunningly well. So, we didn't really do. it all overnight. We built it over the. last eight years. I created a trust. fund. We did a statute. We embedded it. in the constitution so it'll stay. I got. the legislature the last 30-day session. to fund it for five years. We have the. second largest endowment fund in the. country, 75 billion. I'm about to beat. Alaska with that. So resources have been.

building and that's not going to be an. opportunity in every state. But we used. federal help uh during COVID to lift up. child care workers to treat them as the. professionals that they are to build out. an infrastructure to build new. facilities. Uh and that means that when. we just declared it last November, we've. been doing it for a year. It was ready. to go. We've added hundreds of new child. care providers including in rural areas. We trained and licensed home care child.

care providers so that there's no wrong. door. We're doing navigating for. parents. You know, where it's really. tricky, it can be in infant care that. requires more uh uh workers and in more. intense training. But I am bullish about. how well it's working, how many. fivestar, which takes another level of. training, another level investment. Uh. it's working. And I want to just remind. uh Americans that this was a bipartisan.

vote in the New Mexico legislature. That. this was a bipartisan vote by New. Mexicans to embed it, enshrine it in the. Constitution. And it is saving uh. $13,000. on average a child for each family. And. it means that people can afford to. follow their vocations. They're now. nurses and educators and firefighters. and police officers, giving parents. choices about not just their careers,

but their families. This is a promise. that America needs to deliver. If we're. going to continue to build an economy. that is the envy of the world, we start. by investing in the families and the. workers who create those economic. opportunities. Last thing, New Mexico. has been challenged because of our. deeprooted poverty uh in poverty. outcomes and in child well-being. We. went from 50th in childhood poverty to.

17th. It's the largest drop in America's. history. And in addition, this is. developmental work. The earlier you. start, the better the outcomes. This. means that for a kiddo on uh the. spectrum, we may be able to do literal. brain architecture developmental work so. that this is a child that never needs. special education. Um this is the work. that our children deserve from America.

and New Mexico is delivering. We also. have free universal prek, moonshot, investment in literacy, in STEM, in K. through 12, and the only state in. America to have free universal college, two-year, four-year trainings, apprenticeships. And I uh would love to. have Americans, they'll know now that we. went from ranked 40th in university. outcomes to 18th in America. These. policies work and we deserve folks at.

the federal level and a president who is. embodying and embracing these policies. for everyday working Americans. >> Oh, Governor, you actually are doing. planning and this was thought out and. there was working groups and you brought. people together. You didn't just I don't. know tell people. >> you didn't just tell people in Crana I. give you $5,000. You want 5,000 every. You mean you did? Oh wow. This is this. sounds like governance. Governor, while. I let's do another topic. Want to talk.

about energy or uh let's let's do it. I. mean New Mexico is now leading the. country uh in advanced energy. technologies and we have it all. We have. enough energy resources to power the. entire US. So we should be exporting. that uh technology and doing more. largest wind farm in New Mexico, growing. renewable energy at two and a half times. the nation's average. We're the second. also largest oil and gas producers. And.

we're as responsible as you can be in. this transition. We have a certified. clean gas, cleanest natural gas in the. world, cleanest barrel of oil. We don't. let you emit methane. We have ozone. precursor rules. No pneumatic valves. Don't use diesel. You got to have to. have solar uh power your operations. Uh. we invented fracking which means we are. protecting groundwater. We have uh uh. sublime solar opportunities and new.

solar energy efficiencies. We're doing. battery uh technologies and storage. We. are investing in uh transmission which. means we're helping with the molecule. and the electrons. We have the world's. largest we believe now geothermal. reserves. The most uh efficient. geothermal plant in America is also in. New Mexico. Uh we have fusion smallcale. uh nuclear. We need in this transition.

to keep energy affordable and available. and independent and secure. We have to. embrace the fact that we're in a. transition. Use all of it. Clean it up. Move faster towards renewables. make. them more energy efficient and remind. Americans that we used about the same. level of energy since we invented. electricity and now the demand not just. in economic development personal demands.

are way up. We are going to have to find. smarter, better, cleaner ways to deliver. energy not just across America but. around the world. And uh New Mexico is. in a unique position to do just that for. New Mexicans, for Americans. And. frankly, we think we can be great clean. energy exporters around the globe, >> right? New Mexico is doing all these. things and then it's like you start.

taking these deranged strays from Trump. It's like, wait, wait, what are you. doing? [laughter] Leave us alone. We're. trying to we're trying. >> new America. >> What are you What are you What are you. doing here? But then it even gets worse. because this isn't, you know, this needs. to get out there more is that you had to. file a lawsuit recently because the. Trump regime is not reimbursing the. state for $61 million in wildfire costs. Something that would be unfathomable. before. They're not they're not even.

they're like ignoring. turning a blind eye to these issues of. like natural disasters. >> It it's outrageous. It's the federal. responsibility. Now, uh, this is going. to He said he was going to do that. He. on the campaign trail, he alerted voters. that he doesn't believe in FEMA, that he. isn't going to do it, and he is. demonstrating exactly that. So while he. benefits. and enriches himself, puts the country in the kind of debt.

that is going to take remarkable effort, commitments, uh, and frankly sacrifices. by Americans to deal with it. He isn't supporting states that fronted. money to save lives, to pay. firefighters, to build the fire lines, to restore uh water sheds. And instead, he's forcing states to sue them for the. very money that our taxes are supposed.

to be set aside for to support uh these. natural disasters. And 61 million is. just the top of the iceberg. I will tell. you that uh in wildfires, the largest in. in New Mexico's history and in 22 at the. time, the largest US fires, they owe uh. uh individuals who were harmed by these. fires because the fires were the fault. of the federal government billions of. dollars. And the Trump administration. will not provide those reimbursements to. families who were still waiting to have.

their houses uh rebuilt and their lives. restored. It is an outrageous attack on. the very people you were supposed to be. serving and in more cases than not the. very poorest people in the country who. are waiting for you to do what you said. you would do and we're going to see for. that too. >> Yeah. And you know before this interview. I was just looking at some of your. campaign ads you know from the past you. know running in the House of.

Representatives. You were house were in. the US House of Representatives in 2012. Before that, you were uh the state. secretary of health from 2004 to 2007. Uh you ran for governor and won 2018, reelected in 2022. >> You're better than my campaign manager. >> You know, I just do my I try to do a. little bit of research before we uh but. but but in your distinguished career, the staple is you brought joy to it. Like I've watched your ads in the past. and they were joyous and they and they.

reminded me of a different time and you. know they almost feel like you're. watching a a I would watched them before. and you almost felt like you were. watching a movie of of a country that. once existed that that doesn't fully. that is not there right now. You would. do ads rollerblading with the community. and all these things and I'm like that. actually was kind of politics once upon. a time. So before we go, I think we. leave with that because rather than. Democrat, Republican, this or that,

politics becomes so gified sometimes. And for me, it's just like what are we. really doing here? What's the point of. governance? What's the point of us being. here in this world for a short period of. time if not to build connections, leave. the world a better place, be good. people? Like sometimes it's as simple as. that. And. >> not sometimes, it should be every time. Uh, we have to find our way back to. optimism and hope and joy and happiness. And if my rollerblading ad made you.

happy, um, I'm going to uh uh try to get. you to watch my uh running through walls. ad. And what's even funnier are the. outtakes. I I want to just leave you. with this and and your viewers and. listeners, you know, um we angry anger. has got to be kicked out uh of politics. and decisionmaking around the globe and. in America. And for my last State of the. Union, look, I I needed I needed a huge.

uh commitment on universal child care. I. wanted a very robust recurring budget. And I want to point out that our. economic situation in Mexico is really. good and I worked hard for that. 40%. reserves. We have a billion in recurring. for the next governor, two billion in. non-recurring and all these universal. strategies and 75 billion in our. endowment fund. So, you know, we're. doing the right economic work uh as. well. But. I asked all the governors to to sit with.

me and to play a video before my opening. where I pretended that I'd forgotten. that I was giving my state of the state. address. And everyone got to highlight. the thing that they were proud of. The. governors who were able to be in the. room with me were all Republicans. Um, and we showed that we could tease. ourselves, tease each other, have a. little fun, remind people that we love. our jobs and love the people that we. serve, and that we can disagree about a.

number of issues, but we can be friendly. and kind about the way in which we. demonstrate what we who and what we care. about. And I will tell you it it's the. reason I got a bipartisan vote on. universal child care uh out of the. legislature and basically they handed me. my budget in total and it's because we. use kindness and joy and optimism as the. strategies and I encouraged them to. renew their friendships to spend a.

little time together to have a meal to. have a cup of coffee to go back to those. basics and you know they did and maybe. we're going to be the most bipartisan. friendly state uh in America. New. Mexico, friendliest, joyous, most. optimistic, successful state in America. Maybe more folks should think about uh. uh changing their names to New Mexico. >> Appreciate you as always. Governor.
