Republicans are in full collapse mode as. Donald Trump was getting mercilessly. booed as the United States has turned. fully against Donald Trump and this. despicable GOP agenda. You had Maga Mike. on Capitol Hill literally running away. from the press at all times yesterday. So he was like running away and Manu. Raju did a good job and some of the. other reporters did trying to catch up. to him and they were like, "All right, so Donald Trump keeps saying that he.

loves his January 6th slush fund and. he's not going to get rid of it. Yet. Attorney General Blanche and you and. others say that the January 6th $1.8. billion slush fund is not going to. happen, but Trump says it is going to. happen. So isn't that a big problem and. shouldn't you just put it in a piece of. legislation to confirm to the American. people that this slush fund isn't going. to happen. And also, don't you want to. clarify that Donald Trump shouldn't have. all of his tax evasion and every other. tax violation that could total hundreds.

of millions, potentially even billions. of dollars waived based on this. collusive settlement? What do you say. Maga Mike? Watch Maga Mike like run away. here. Then they asked him about, you. know, why is it that you and Trump and. the Magas out there continued to cast. doubt on the election results in. California without any evidence. whatsoever. I mean, a a. candidate was one of the top two to get. in on the governor's race to get past.

this round. So, what kind of conspiracy is this Maga. Mike? And Maga Mike's like, well, there's just a lot of things that we got. to worry about. This is where they're. going right before the midterms cuz. they've got nothing. They've destroyed. the country. The American people hate. them. They're covering up the Epstein. files. They've embarked America on these. unlawful catastrophic never-ending wars. They've tanked the economy. So, this is. what they do. They fear monger and then. they say, oh, it's unfair. This is. unfair. That's unfair. And that's what.

they're preparing to do for the. midterms. This is just the appetizer. They're getting ready to make their. arguments. Oh, we really won. Here, watch it Maga Mike has to say. But I think everybody knows. instinctively something is wrong here. And that's a concern. We need people to. believe in the integrity of our election. system. It is critical to maintain a.

constitutional republic. We're going to. keep working to pass the Save America. Act because it requires, as you know, proof of citizenship and a photo ID to. vote. That Those are also 90% plus. issues in public opinion and 70% of. Democrats understand that's that's. necessary. >> Aren't you all just saying that because. you lost the election cuz the. Republicans did not win? You know, this. is why you're This is why you're hearing. that? >> I'm saying that every every leader of. all parties should demand election. integrity. And if somebody is opposing. that, you should look at their motives. That's what I'm saying.

I mean again, this MAGA. Republican Party is deranged. Then. again, this is what they've got for the.

midterms. Notice they don't want to talk. about the economy. They don't want to. talk about data centers and AI. They. don't want to talk about catastrophic. never-ending wars. They don't want to. talk about inflation. No, uh you're not. masculine. No, no, no. I mean, this is. who they are. They're babies. They're. losers. They're weak. human beings. Don't run on men playing. in women's sports. >> And then J.D. Vance is like, "But here's. the thing, Donald Trump's delivered on. everything." Okay, J.D., play this clip. >> If you go back historically, even when. the country's been doing very well, midterms are pretty bad for the country. or for the party that's that's in power, but I think we have a great chance. Number one, because the president has. delivered on so many of his core. campaign promises, but number two, it's. because the Democrats can't seem to.

nominate normal people to ask for the. American people's vote. >> Maybe normal people don't want to run as. Democrats. That's the key. I want to put. this on the record though, Mr. Vice. President. And then they have MAGA. Republican Senator Roger Marshall, who now blames the screwworm outbreak on. former President Biden. Here, play this. clip. >> I want to switch over because I know. you're on the Senate Agriculture. Committee and beef prices are at an. all-time high. There's new concern about. the beef supply now with the discovery.

of that flesh-eating screwworm among. cattle there in Texas. But what's being. done to try to contain this new threat. and and really overall to to keep these. prices down? >> Yeah, Charlotte, well, we we got this. We've been through this before. We. eradicated the screwworm in 1966 and. we'll talk about this. But this is. another thing we can thank Joe Biden. for. That when millions of people came. out of out of Central America, they. brought this screwworm with them. It was. on their pets, maybe on their flesh as.

well. Oh, really? We could bring out. some facts there. From the Texas. Tribune. You know, after Mexican. officials confirmed a case of screwworm. in November 2024, the USDA, the. Department of Agriculture under Biden, closed the southern ports of entry to. live cattle imports to prevent the. spread of screwworm into the United. States. Uh the move also strained supply of. cattle in Texas. The USDA reversed. course in February 2025 after Trump took.

office announcing, "We're opening it.". And now you got the screwworms. That's. just what went down. Now we have Randy Fine, MAGA Republican, who wants to do what? Attack California. and say, "Do you know they've got a. bunch of ballots in the dumpsters and. people are going through dumpsters.". Just more lies from these people. >> Let's play this clip. So people can just. dig through garbage cans, find ballots, and send them in apparently forever. after an election is over. It's not. okay. It's got to come to an end and.

people need to go to jail. >> And then Maga Republican Congresswoman. Virginia Fox says, "We have to We have a. mandate to root out fraud and disembowel. fraud." Disembowel? What do you mean. disembowel? >> Now, I want to bring in Yasmine Raji, executive director of Swing Left. Yasmine, great to see you again. When. you and I last spoke, about a year ago. or so, launching kind of the pilot to. this Ground Truth, which you've then. accelerated in March, accelerating it.

even further now, where you've got. volunteers across the country who are. embedded in communities, and they know. what's going on and what people are. feeling. And so, it gives us good. metrics of where we are heading into the. midterms. Over 45 House races, nine. Senate races, eight governors races in. particular, where you have, you know, these Swing Left teams, and of course, the Swing Left community and the local. chapters are everywhere in the United.

States, and I encourage people to look. into the nearest Swing Left chapter by. them, because they're just great. community events. But let let's get into. it, because before you know it, midterms. will be right at right here. I mean, you'll have the summer, and then boom, people will be like, "What? They're in. 30 days? 45 days?" That's going to. happen right after Labor Day. So, what. what what where do you see the status of. things right now? Maybe just setting. aside the politics for a moment, we'll. get into there, but just what people are.

what real Americans are feeling, not the. Mar-a-Lago. club rose garden triumphal arch. ballroom, but like, what are real. Americans going through that that you're. seeing when you when you guys are all. out there? >> Yeah, I mean, uh we ask the first. question we ask in our Ground Truth. canvasses, uh is we ask voters of all. political persuasions. We're not just. talking to Democrats, we're talking to. Republicans, we're talking to. independents, likely voters, people who. only vote every so often, and all across. the board we're asking, you know, how do.

you feel about the direction of the. country? And people don't feel good. I. mean, that's not not a big surprise, right? Not a big shocker to listeners. But the most consistent thing that we're. hearing from folks across party lines is. a broad feeling like the system is. broken and that they don't know what. which political party will fight for. them, if any. And so, a lot of what. we're hearing from folks that connects. to how they're feeling about the war. with Iran and how that's impacting gas. prices. It's how they feel about sort of.

being left behind and working two jobs. and not being able to afford child care. It's all the things that we all know, right? If we're all paying attention and. breathing the same air as one another, we know we're going through a really, really challenging time as a country. But I think what we're also seeing, and. this veers towards the the, you know, electoral politics of it all, is that, you know, we live in a very polarized. political climate. Again, not doesn't. take scientist to figure that out. But. we're seeing just incredible opportunity. not just with bringing, you know, swing.

folks who who voted Democratic in the. past, but the MAGA Republicans we're. talking to on the on the doors, you. know, folks that we call it a Democratic. propensity score. It's the the number. that we can classify how likely or. unlikely it is that someone would. support Democrats. The people with the. lowest scores, people who open the door. saying, "I don't know if you want to. talk to me, I'm a Republican or I voted. for Trump." Those are the folks that one. in four of them are not just voicing. really strong anti-Trump sentiment, but.

they're voicing real openness to voting. for Democrats. And so, we're in this. moment where the kind of historic tide. the historic winds are blowing in our. direction, meaning, you know, we know. after presidential there's strong. anti-incumbent backlash, and we know. Trump is tremendously unpopular. We also. know that there's real opportunity and. core to what our Ground Truth program at. Swing Left is all about is how do we. make sure that we are as aggressive as.

possible in taking advantage of that. opportunity to not just eke out a small. house victory, but to win a. full-throated really aggressive house. victory where we're winning over voters. who agree with us on most of the issues. and a lot of voters who don't and that. we really really take a strong swing at. the Senate which is possible to win even. though really really tough. But that's. going to take more than just riding. those anti-Trump wins. It's going to. take putting in a lot of groundwork and. really rebuilding trust with voters. And.

it's also going to take district by. district not sort of in one fell swoop. really offering voters a positive answer. to the question of what Democrats stand. for besides being anti-Trump. And so. those are the things that our volunteers. are motivated by. We don't see that. those are questions that any individual. political figure can answer for us, but. collectively we see this as a moment. where we go out and listen to those. folks, we really follow up with them. about the issues that they care about.

and we aggressively ride those wins in a. way that can lead us to full-throated. victories in 2026, then we're going to. be able to continue building in 2028 and. then something I hope we talk about. later in this conversation in the really. tough elections that follow even after. 2028. And we really see the work of this. moment as long-term work to rebuild a. political party and a movement that is. going to need to take us to to some. tough victories then. >> Yeah, and let's just get into that.

because there's generational change that. is needed right now and. to me one of the big problems of a. broken politics is where it is gamified. and you have this personality, that. personality, and then Republicans tank. it, and then Democrats try to repair it, and then they get blamed for the tank, the way Biden did, and then you bring it.

out, and then Republicans tank it, and. then you fix it, and then you tank it, and I mean that seems to be very. cyclical of what we're seeing. George W. Bush to Obama, Obama passes on something. good to Trump, Trump crashes it into the. ground. Biden struggles for a year and a. half, two years with what he was handed. They tortured him and said you're the. worst. He finally gets it to a place. where ah, we're finally out of this. interest rate cuts and manufacturing. jobs back, and then easy layup, nope.

Let's just get Let's just take all the. goodwill, give it to the billionaires, the greedy greedy greedy, crash it crash. it crash it, then whoever's going to fix. like we have to get out of like this. loop needs to be get We need to get out. of it because it just breeds a very. short-term cyclical destructiveness. And. I think we need a generational change. So, how do you how do you go there? And. to your point, there seems to be a lot. of things that Americans overwhelmingly.

agree on. I think most things are 70 30. or 80 20 issues in this country on on. most issues, but then the Republicans. are great at finding okay, how do we. divide people? How do we blame the. immigrant? How do we do that? So, talk. to us how How do you make this project? >> Yeah. You know, the cycle-to-cycle. whiplash from election cycle to election. cycle is exhausting, and voters have had. enough. I mean, this is not just a. something that we all feel exhausted. about as activists. Voters feel like.

they are pulled in all sorts of. different directions, and what they. really want is a country and a. government that works for them, and. their lack of trust in our government. and their lack of trust in our political. system is, you know, it makes a lot of. sense. Like, it is it is impossible to. prove the government to can work for. people when we are eking out tiny little. majorities where we actually can't. really get something done because a. member gets sick, or a member dies, or. someone, you know, loses a special.

election, or whatever the case may be. And so, part of our response at Swing. Left to that cycle-to-cycle whiplash is. we can't just be in a moment of small. tweaks around the edges and rinsing and. repeating old political tactics. We've. really got to take big and aggressive. swings. And for us, that is a. two-pronged answer. One is we've got to. think much more aggressively about the. electoral map. And this has been hard. for us. I mean, we The last time you and.

I talked, we had just 33 congressional. districts on our map because we weren't. sure, you know, which direction would. the political winds blow. We've lived. through a lot of really unpredictable. times. But right now, as you said. earlier, we've got 45 House districts on. our map. We are not going to win all 45. of those districts unless truly every. single star aligns. But the reason we. want to take that big swing when it. comes to the map is first and foremost, we've got to win an aggressive House.

majority to get anything done. We've got. to win an aggressive House majority to. help fight some of that cycle-to-cycle. whiplash. And third, if we don't start. investing in some of those really tough. districts to win right now, I can pretty. much guarantee you we're going to be. losing we're going to be returning to. that cycle-to-cycle whiplash, and we're. going to be losing in the long term. Because in 2026, the winds are blowing. in our direction. In 2028, they're going. to be blowing in all sorts of different. directions, right? Who knows? Trump is,

you know, unpredictable in so many ways. What is predictable is that he's a chaos. agent, and he's going to do all sorts of. things to mess around with the 2028. election. We can, you know, list those. together. But then, and this is a really. important piece of why we need to take. those big swings, once we get through. that election, let's say we win the. presidency, the Senate, the House, we. win a bunch of states. We've got that. trifecta. In 2030 is when the US census becomes. critical for two reasons. Number one, we.

look at where populations have shifted. In your state, my home state of. California, states like New York, we're. losing population, and so we're going to. lose electoral college votes after that. 2030 census. States like Texas and. Florida, they're gaining population, so. that means they're going to gain. electoral college points. So, what that. means is even if we beat Trump in 2028, it's not like MAGA extremism goes away. overnight. And if we are not investing. now in an aggressive map, when the winds.

are on our side, when it comes to. fighting existential fights that will. depend on places like Texas and Florida, we're going to be out of luck. And the. same goes after that census for, you. know, we we know in the every 10 years, in 2030 will be no exception, the states. that have the party that has a majority. in the states is going to determine. where the congressional lines are drawn, right? We've seen that. Gerrymandering. has been the story of so much of this. year, and if we are not competing at the.

state level in so many places where. those district lines are going to be. drawn unfairly by Republicans, then. we're also going to have a really hard. time winning House majorities. So, I say. all of that, and we're focused on all of. that Swing Left, not to overwhelm, because it really is not an. overstatement to say the fight for the. House in 2026 is existential. The fight. for a trifecta in 2028 is existential. But if we are not investing now in the. places that we need to start winning. really soon, and we pick up some of.

those places because we can ride those. electoral winds, then there's just no. way that we can win for the long term. So, we've got to do all of that and the. way that we need to do it is that also a. big swing. It's not just where we're. playing, it's also that we can't just. keep depending on last-minute. transactional conversations with voters. to somehow magically help people. reimagine electoral politics and. suddenly trust the Democratic Party. You. know, we've all seen where the support. for the Democratic Party is even among. Democratic base voters. I mean, it's.

like in the 20s our our support scores. And so, in order to rebuild trust, we've. got to be out listening to people, talking to voters early, and. importantly, we've got to talk to people. who disagree with us because rebuilding. trust, as we know outside of politics, it takes time. We've got to just, you. know, we got to apply that same. principle to politics and start that. early work now so that we're winning. full-throatedly and we're winning in a. way that can sustain us for election. cycle after election cycle rather than.

disintegrating like quicksand and. needing to be rebuilt. >> Yasmin, if people want to help out, if. they want to find out a Swing Left. club in their area, what can they do. right now if after they watch this? >> They can go to swingleft.org and find. out about the closest actions near them. something relative. Some of us, I live. in a very blue part of the country. I. know you do as well. Each one of us is. within. most of us within a 90-minute drive of a. competitive swing district. So, we hope. they'll join us for these canvases, which are not just incredibly important. for winning the midterms, but also in. reimagining our politics and honestly, feeling much more hopeful because even. talking to swing voters, Republican. voters, voters are easier to reach than. the way our national politics can often.
