discriminating against Americans. Whoa. Those tariffs were thrown on because. Canada set up our own tariffs in. response to being attacked in the first. place. That's like you're sitting at the. bar having a drink and someone comes up. and punches you in the head and then you. respond and then they start whining to. the police that you were mean to them. These tariffs that Donald Trump has. thrown on us is an attempt to intimidate. us, to make us back down from the fact. that there are only two countries in the.

world. They say that again and again, Donald Trump and and Pete Hoekstra and. Howard Lotnick, only two countries that. didn't roll over when hit with arbitrary. trade threats. That was Canada and that. was China. So, what this is all about is. making Canada bend. That's what this. negotiation is. They are demanding that. we bend and break and they take it. personally that we didn't. So, these 50%. tariffs, well, on everything from swimming pools to. hockey sticks. The fact is is who's. paying for it? Right now, the American.

people who are facing the highest level. of inflation in the G7, who are dealing. with higher and higher prices for. groceries, are going to be paying these. fees. So, way to go, Donald. You are punishing. your own people while you're trying to. punish Canada. The other thing is is that what was the. leverage that he used to attack Canada? It was section 338 of the Smoot-Hawley. Tariff Act of 1930. Now, that tariff act. is so notorious. It is recognized as the. worst piece of economic legislation in.

economic history because it plunged the. world into the Great Depression. No. American president has ever even tried. to resurrect the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act. because it is such a destructive and. stupid tariff tool. But, Donald Trump's. using it and he's using it to the. maximum ability he can, 50% arbitrary. tariffs because he really, really wants. to punish us. >> More from Charlie Angus right here where. he talks about how because of Donald. We're going to be. circumspect about it, but we're going to. look to open up our markets like China. EVs may make sense in certain in certain. areas." Um and then Charlie Angus.

China and the fact that we're allowing. Chinese EVs in with the proviso that. they start setting up operations in. Canada? You know, a few years ago would have. been a pretty straightforward ask for. the government of the United States to. say, "We don't want China. We want to. have a maintain a strong North American. market." Well, that would have worked. Canada was more than willing to be part.

of the strong North American market. Donald Trump is demanding this. hemispheric response and making America. strong in the hemisphere. Well, he had. that with Kuzma. We were more than. willing to be the little brother. But, we are not going to walk away on trade. deals with Europe and China now because. we understand how arbitrary and. dangerous the United States is at this. time. These are my thoughts. The Prime Minister's going to do what he. has to do. He's going to go down. He's. going to negotiate in good faith, but he. knows that there's no good faith on the.

other side. Are we going to get a trade. deal? I doubt it. And if we give up. something as powerful as the boycott on. alcohol, a symbol that drives the United. States crazy, then we will have. surrendered and shown the white flag and. that's all Donald Trump wants. He wants. us to show the white flag. He wants us. to bend the knee and then he'll come. back for more. Well, he's not going to. get it and I think the Prime Minister is. hearing from Canadians loud and clear. that they're willing to hold the line. They're willing to have the conversation. about what it's going to take to.

maintain our economic independence when. our next door neighbor has turned to. gangster politics. As far as what Donald Trump is doing. with the American economy, well, it's. getting more and more fragile there all. the time. They've lost jobs. They lost. jobs last month. We added jobs. So, what. did they do? They tried to blame us. They said that we were doing terrible. They are obsessed with us because we are. not bending and we are not breaking. And. you know what? You guys can have. Superman. We don't mind. You can have. basketball. We'll give you that, too. It's okay. We don't mind. Make it all.

about you guys. We're just going to. carry on and do our thing because we're. Canada. We are true, north, strong, and. free. >> What I found very fascinating about. And of course, they're. also talking about, you know, the what. if scenario. Did you know that they're. saying 100,000 jobs will be lost if we. don't secure Kuzma in Canada? Well, 200,000 plus will be lost in the. United States. But here's the thing. When they signed. the North American Free Trade Deal, Canada lost 340,000.

good-paying manufacturing jobs. And do. you think that the bankers here and the. kings of industry and the right-wing who. pushed for that free trade deal gave a. damn about those 340,000 jobs? Hell, we. were told that was the price of entry, even though Canadians overwhelmingly. opposed free trade. So, the question I. would ask before getting to the issues. of this latest tariff threat is, when. are we going to have a conversation. about what we would need to do to secure. our independence economically and.

protect our sovereignty in an age of the. kind of gangster threats that are coming. from Washington? Because as much as the media are talking. about what the Prime Minister needs to. do to secure a deal and how, you know, his credibility is resting on it, I. would argue. that the biggest threat to the Prime. Minister right now would be to come back. from Washington and say. he secured a deal. Because we all know if he secures a. deal, it will mean major concessions. because Donald Trump is not interested.

in any capacity in a fair trade deal. So, the Prime Minister is in a situation. where if he announces a deal, people are. going to say, "What did you give up?". Because what we're giving up is our. sovereignty. >> And let me interrupt for just a moment. with some big news. I got good news for. you right now. Something pretty. remarkable just happened in one of the. reddest states in America. For the first. time ever, Utah generated more. electricity from solar power than from. any other energy source during the month. of May. According to new energy data, solar produced nearly 1/3 of all the.

electricity generated in the state, edging out natural gas while coal fell. to third place. I want you to think. about that for a sec cuz Utah has long. been associated with fossil fuels, but. the economics of clean energy are. changing the landscape. Experts say this. didn't happen overnight. It's the result. of years of investment in large-scale. solar projects, including massive new. solar farms that have come online. recently, along with battery storage. that helps deliver power even after the. sun goes down. I want to highlight Grist. for their incredible reporting on this. Logan Mitchell, a climate scientist and. energy analyst with Utah Clean Energy,

told Grist, quote, "Wind plus solar is. on a tear right now. We may have. achieved liftoff." And he noted how wind. and solar complement each other since. wind generation is highest in winter. months and solar produces the most. electricity in the summer. But wait, I. seem to remember that Trump said. something about countries use wind just. the other day. >> Any country with windmills. is a loser, okay? >> Well, the good news is even red states. like Utah aren't listening to him and. it's not just an environmental story. Energy experts say that this shift means. cleaner air, new jobs, more investment,

and a stronger economy. In other words, renewable energy isn't just about. fighting climate change anymore. It's. increasingly becoming the cheaper, more. practical option that states and. businesses are choosing because it makes. economic sense. So, despite Trump's. attacks on clean energy, the market. appears to be moving in a much different. direction. Even states that aren't. traditionally seen as clean energy. leaders are rapidly expanding solar and. wind because the tech has become more. efficient, more affordable, and more. competitive. So, this is definitely a. story worth watching because it could be. a glimpse of where America's energy. future is heading. That's the latest.

So, as for Stampede Drilling and the. Gani Transport, they've been hammered. with people from across the country and. around the world who've been phoning. them and demanding that they respect the. laws of Greenland. And now they're. saying, "Well, if we are going to go to. Greenland, it'll be because there are. permits in place. This is what happens when people speak.

up. The bullies don't get their way and. we push back. Same as the incredible. response uh since we've taken up the. fight for the petition to get Peter. Julian. expelled. So, the first time I raised. concerns and said, "Hey, why don't we. get a national campaign to support. Leanne Walker's petition that was. brought into the house by Elizabeth. May?" At the time they had 14,000. signatures. By the time the media noticed, that. might as mighty Canadian response had. pushed it up to 29,000. I did a second.

push when it was at 34,000 and over the. course of the day it went to 70,000. signatures and now it's well over. 100,000. Got this great message from our. resister Brian Taylor who broke it down. He said, "It's now 8:00 on the 12th of. August, roughly 12 hours after Charlie. posted, >> [snorts]. >> and the number of signatures this. morning were about 34,000, now over. 70,000. The breakdown by province is. below. This is the power of resistance,". he writes. "Alberta, 7,429.

signatures. British Columbia, 13,776. signatures. Manitoba, 2,816. New Brunswick, 1,802. Come on, New. Brunswick. You guys can do better. Newfoundland and Labrador, 908. Come on, guys. Pick it up. representative, this whiny little loser. guy, you know, who's like, "Um we're mad. at Canada. Canada, we're mad at you." I. mean, this guy, Jamieson Greer, is just. uh he's he's he's such This guy is such. a freaking loser. Listen to what he. says. Play this clip. >> Well, I I would say that those duties, if you if you look at at what was put. out, the legal basis for those duties, the policy basis for those duties are. related to to measures that Canada took. against the United States. So, I've got. two countries in the world that have.

retaliated against the United States for. trade measures. The People's Republic of. China and Canada. That's not the kind of. company you really want to be running. in. And so, we have three issues where. Canadians have banned the sale of. American wine and spirits uh in Canada. You know, for for for everything that. that we've done on the on the Trump. trade administration of I said. essentially assessing a fee on foreign. goods made by foreign workers, uh we're. not in the business of of banning uh. these things from from Canada. So, that's interesting. So, that has to be. resolved. Uh we have an uneven dairy.

treatment. Uh in some instances, uh. Canada gives the EU better treatment on. dairy than they give us, their best. customer. And we want the benefit of our. bargain from NAFTA and USMCA on on on. dairy. Uh and then we have a variety of. other issues on on procurement uh and a. variety of things like that. I mean, those things have to be resolved because. that's a legal basis uh for those other. tariffs. Uh you know, with with again, from the US perspective, you know, this is our trade policy. The. Canadians have come in and they want to. have a conversation about it and and. we're having those conversations. I.

mean, again, this is a global trade. policy. We have been suffering in the. United States for decades under a trade. policy that incentivizes offshoring to. to China, to Mexico, to Vietnam, but in. some cases, to Canada even. And and we. can't allow that to happen anymore. Ultimately, we are accountable to. American voters. The president was. elected by voters on a on a campaign on. a platform of protecting American. industry. So, that is first and foremost. what we need to do. Uh you know, these tariffs that are. coming in, they are a response to.

Canadian uh retaliatory measures like. the kind of things that China would do. Um and so, those are things that would. have to be resolved. I mean, it really takes weak. and pathetic losers like Jameson Greer. in this Trump regime to look at all the. issues in the world and go, "You know. who's been treating us unfairly? Canada."
