Niu Lai Is Chinese Cinema
When a film is so bad it's good, it hits. the realm of cult favorite. And it seems. Chinese CGI animation New Li is fitting. that description. Throngs of fans are buying cinema. tickets to watch this unholy abomination. of low polygon animation, and it's made. a name for itself for its hilarious, unintentional entertainment. The animals. have uncanny humanish faces. The. dialogue is stilted. And it's become a. real rags to riches story in regards to. the fact that when it debuted, it earned.
maybe a few thousand yen and then. exploded into millions as audiences. began seeking it out. Its fame is all. thanks to its social media presence, which has naturally elicited a delighted. response due to the fact that it's so. clearly handcrafted. [music] In an age. of AI slop, even films like this one, which took a ton of time and effort to. create despite its shortcomings, feel. authentic. And because there's almost. zero marketing material for the film as. a result of its low budget, staff. members of various Chinese cinemas have. been seen creating their own versions, ultimately lending to that authentic.
[music] feel. After all, it was made by. a mother and son over the course of 5. years, and that makes it special art. despite how unintentionally funny it is. There's definitely a fondness for janky. animated films as the likes of 2005's. Hoodwinkedked constantly gets praised. for its amazing writing and stacked cast. [music]. despite its visuals looking like a. firstear student created it. Unfortunately, New Life doesn't stack up. with celebrity casting, nor does it have. brilliant [music] writing. However, the. fact is that it's genuinely difficult to. make something so bad it's good, and.
this cinematic experience achieves that. goal. It just goes to show that there's. an appetite for the new and outrageous, as sometimes it feels like blockbuster. cinema is the only option, and it's. refreshing when something bold and. daring as amateur animation slips. through the cracks and onto our screens. New Life feels like it shouldn't exist. It shouldn't be getting the attention. it's receiving, and that's what makes it. so great. People can go to their local. theaters and watch it for a laugh, sure, but the fact of the matter is that every. viewing and showing is supporting the. mother and son who made this story with.
their own two hands. And I sincerely. hope this campaign brings them. happiness. One can only hope that it. gets a full English dub or at the very. least translated subs in every language. so that the rest of the world can enjoy. the full New Li experience. Essentially, New Lie has made a name for itself as. the jankiest, goofiest, and worst. animated film seen in cinema for a very. long time. However, it is that janky. reputation that audiences have come to. appreciate as Chinese cinema. demonstrates a handcrafted touch beats. modern AI every time. See you next time.
