Michael Jordan's Son Stuns Court in Wild DUI Arrest
We We thought we were making a right and. I turned onto the train tracks. apparently. >> Bro, I'm Marcus Jordan. I'm Michael. Jordan's son. I'm not doing anything. wrong. I'm just trying to get home. >> and I made a wrong turn. >> Marcus Jordan, the son of sports legend. Michael Jordan and a basketball player. in his own right, got his luxury car. stuck on railroad tracks in Maitland, Florida earlier this year. You may have. seen it. And his bad luck didn't end. there. Now, he ended up arrested for DUI.
with officers saying they found drugs in. his pocket. And you are not going to. believe some of his reactions to his. detention that was caught on body cam, which we are going to play for you as he. now accepts a plea deal. We're going to. take you through it all right now. Welcome to Sidebar, presented by Law and. Crime. I'm Jesse Weber. [Music]. Marcus Jordan is back in the headlines. Not for his love life, not for his. basketball career, not even for his.
famous father, Michael Jordan. No, instead he is in the spotlight for a. recent arrest out in Florida. The body. cam footage from that and what we want. to talk about right now. This is new. An. agreement to take a plea. Now, we're. going to get into that. We're going to. get into the body cam footage, but we. got to go back to February. February of. this year out in Maitland, Florida. It's. north of Orlando. That is when several. officers with the Matland Police. Department responded to a train track. several hundred yards down from a. railroad crossing. It's just after 1:00.
a.m. The driver of this car, later. identified as Marcus Jordan, said that. he simply made a wrong turn. >> Hey, >> you guys good? >> Yeah, we're trying to My car is a little. stuck right now. >> I I see that. >> You want to help us? We going to try, >> huh? >> We're going to try. >> All right. >> What happened? >> What happened? How'd you get on the. tracks, man?
>> All right. Good. >> Help us try and reverse this thing out. >> Well, hang on. Hang on. >> You are stuck. >> Come here. You know trains come by right now, right? >> No, I I I know. That's why I'm trying to. get out of here. >> I I hear you. >> Yeah. You your car ain't going nowhere,
dude. You're buried. You're You're stuck. on the track. >> All right. So, how do we off the track? >> Honestly, I'm trying to figure that out. We already We know the. >> Sunil. I need you guys out of the car because. there is a train coming right now. >> What the. >> Let me pull up. You can't move. >> You're not going to be able to move it. Just get out of the car. >> Move it to the right. >> You can't. You're burying. >> No, you can move it to the right. >> You're burying, bro. >> You can't go nowhere. You're buried.
>> But there's a train. >> at least to the right. >> Less than 5 minutes away. >> All right. So then you want to get hit. >> by a train? >> You You think I want to get hit by a. train? No. >> No. That's what I'm saying. Get out of. the car so we don't get hit. So we can. get off this thing, >> baby. Try to the right. >> All right, get out of the car. >> Okay, >> get out of the car. >> Okay, >> I got to order you guys out. Get out of. the car, both of you guys. Come on. >> Safety first. Safety first, man. >> Of course. Safety first. But I mean, I'm. trying to get the out of here.
>> Yeah, but your car's not going anywhere, man. >> I don't understand that. So, come on. >> Yeah, you guys need to get out. There's. a train. >> There's a train coming. I don't want to. see you guys get hit, bro. >> I understand that. >> Come on. All. right, let's step over here. >> There's got to be a way to get this car. out. >> Look at the tire right here. Look. Look.
See the tires? >> Yeah. >> They They're They're buried. You guys. are You guys are literally stuck. I. mean, there's no getting. >> Do you see them? What I'm saying? This. car ain't going nowhere. >> This is bad. >> Okay. You see what I'm saying? >> I mean, I. >> That's why I said it ain't going. nowhere. We can't help with that. >> We got the sun. We're notifying them to. see if they'll stop, but they got one. coming from Sanford and it's. >> I mean, I feel like we got one, two,
three, four. This forward. We can push. this, >> right? My concern is us. >> Okay. >> Right. Okay. That's the the concern. All. right. I mean, the concern is this. $300,000 vehicle. >> I would like to. just like push this out the way.
>> Let's start trying. >> I don't even know what to do about the. tow truck or anything. >> Tow truck. We don't need a tow truck. We. just need Can I get some manpower to. push off of this? >> Okay, first of all, no, because I'm not. getting you back behind the wheel. >> Um, >> why? >> How long ago did you. >> This just happened right now. We We. thought we were making a right and I. turned onto the train tracks apparently.
>> I'm trying. >> But yeah, we're not getting back in the. car right now. Okay. Um, >> the reason why Yeah. So, >> do me a favor. Keep your hands out your. pockets. Keep your hands in your. pockets. >> There's nothing in my pocket. [Applause]. >> Bro, I'm Marcus Jordan. I'm Michael. Jordan's son. >> I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm just. trying to get home. >> and I made a wrong turn. >> Okay. And clearly.
we would just like to get our car off of. the train track, >> which we were not trying to be on. >> Do you have your ID on you real quick? >> Let's worry about that. >> He does. >> Okay. Let him know who we're we're out. with. Um and then we'll. >> Did you have an ID ID on you, ma'am?
>> Yes, of course. >> Oh my goodness gracious. >> Yes, sir. I mean, I apologize. This is. not. >> by design. >> You hold this real quick. >> I got it. I got it. I got it. I got your. I'll hold it. I'll hold it. I'll hold it. for you. We're just trying to head home, man. I. live in Dr. Phillips. >> How did you manage to get on the train.
tracks, man? >> Honestly, I made a left and I made a. right and I made another right and here. we are. >> Okay. Where are you guys coming from? >> We were at a couple of venues tonight, but. >> trying to get home like. >> Thank you. Well, we got a tow truck on the way. >> We really We really need a tow truck. >> Yeah, we're going to have to walk.
through here. >> We need a tow truck. Really? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You We can't get this off the. track, >> bro. >> Now, with my job, I'm constantly on the. road, which can sometimes leave me. feeling a little homesick. You know, I. just was in Crime Con out in Denver. And. when life or work is stressful and. you're feeling burnt out, don't you. start really thinking about that one. spot in your home that's supposed to be. the most comfortable of all, the safe. spot, the bed. They even give you a 100 night sleep. trial. So, if you don't love them, you. can send it back. Plus, a 10-year. warranty because comfort like this, it. should really last the long haul, right?

And if you. see that post-purchase survey, let them. know how you heard about Cozy Earth. right here because your bed shouldn't. just be where you sleep. It should be. your happy place. Cozy Earth makes that. happen. Yeah. Jordan is seemingly. dumbfounded that the officers won't help. him move his car. And the officers have. to keep warning Jordan and his date that. this is an active train track. >> There's six of us.
and we throw this thing in reverse. >> Well, I've already got concerns for your. level of impairment anyways. Okay. So. that's why. >> because I can smell alcohol coming from. you and you're on the train tracks. Okay. So come on, man. Just listen to. me. That's why I don't want you back. behind the wheel anyways. Okay. >> I'm fine behind the wheel. I just would. like to get my car out of this. >> We'll deal with that after after this. Okay. We'll we'll deal with that after. this. But that's why I had to get you. out of the car. Okay. Because I hear. spinning tires. I hear slur speech from. you. You're driving on train track. >> I'm not slaring anything. And I'm Okay.
I'm letting you know I have concerns. for your I appreciate that. >> driving a vehicle. I can't let you back. behind the car and drive a vehicle. >> I app I appreciate your concerns. >> Yeah, I don't want. >> but I am not. >> inevated. I'm not anything that cannot. drive home. [Music]. >> I'm not familiar with this area. I made. a right. >> I thought I was making a right onto the. highway. 9.
>> I made it right onto. >> train track. >> Where did you turn at, man? >> I wish I wish I could tell you, but. >> you're way down the train track. That's. what I'm saying. It's not like you just. >> We're not way down the train tracks. We. We made a right and another right. >> Um I'm letting you know there's no. physical possible way in this universe. we can push this car off the train. track. >> I disagree with that. >> Oh, I don't care if you disagree or not. Okay, I'm letting you know. I mean, I I. get that, but I I. >> we're not getting back behind the wheel,
okay? Not at this moment, okay? >> There possibly is a train coming, >> okay? So, we need to get off these. tracks. That is my concern right now for. your guys' safety and our own. Okay, man. Bro, you you can't get the car off. and we're not pushing it. Okay? So, I'm. letting you know that. All right. >> I mean, I could definitely get this car. off if. you gentlemen would like to help me. I I. told you we're not pushing a car off of. train tracks like this, and I'm not. getting back behind the wheel till I.
know that you're safe enough to operate. it. >> Okay. So, what do I have to do to show. you that I'm safe enough to operate it? >> Well, I'm going to ask you to do field. sobriety exercises in a minute, but I'm. going to read you your Miranda rightites. first because there's so many of us. That's the only reason. I've already. ordered you out of the car. I gave you. orders before I ask any questions. I. have to I have to read you your rights. You're not under arrest. I just have. >> I know I'm not. The more the officers. interact with Jordan, the more convinced. they become that they need him to do. field sobriety tests. Jordan though. seems to think if he apologizes enough.
times for quote making a wrong turn, they maybe will just let him go. >> Okay. Um, come on over here, sir. I. >> I'm right here. I got to go over. here, sir. >> I'm I'm working my way. You okay, TA? >> All right, ma'am. I'm going to be doing. an investigation on them right now. So,
that's why we got multiple cops here. So, I got I'm going to have right here. So, ma'am, if you'd like to stand by the. cop or stand back there. Um, but I'm. going to be doing an investigation. So, I don't want to warn people. Okay. >> All right. So, sir, I got a couple. questions. >> Did you want to stand back here by the. car? But first, I got to redo this. because. >> here if you want, let's go move over. here. >> Just stand by the front of the car.
>> No. >> No. >> Thank you. >> Um, so just let you know I have. >> Why? >> Because you throw through here and throw. on the train tracks. Okay. I smell. alcohol, slur speech. I see several. signs. >> I'm not my observation. It's my opinion. >> My opinion. I'm not slurring any excuse, sir. I understand everything that you're. saying. >> Lower your light, please. >> That's not me. I'm not I don't have any. light, >> sir. I'm letting you know.
>> Okay. I appreciate you letting me know. >> I'm perfectly fine. I made a right. thinking that this was going to be the. shortcut for us to get on the highway. >> Okay. And apparently I was mistaken. Correct. So. >> So the officer has Jordan do several. tests including an eye test, the walk. and turn test, the onelegged stand, but. at the end of them, Jordan is not going. to be too happy with the result. >> I got a couple questions for you.
>> How much did you have to drive? >> A little bit. Under under the legal. limit. >> What's the legal limit? 008 or something. >> 08. Okay. >> Yeah. >> So, how many drinks was it 08? >> I know, man. I'm not. >> That's why I was asking a scientist. >> So, that's why I'm asking how much you. had. I know you said under the legal. limit. Was it 1, 2, 10, 20? How many? >> I know that I'm under the legal limit. >> Okay. Okay. Um, did you have any food. tonight?
>> Yes, I ate a lot of food. >> All right. What' you have? >> Italian. >> You baby. Baby. Thank you. Thank you. >> So, I see you wear glasses. Are those. for reading, seeing? What are they? >> They're for everything. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Do you wear contacts all? >> No. >> Okay. >> Can't get them in, can't get them out. >> Are you diabetic? >> No. >> Okay. Do you uh have any issues with. walking or anything like that? Any. injuries? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Do you uh you take any.
prescription medications? >> No, sir. >> What about illegal substances? No, sir. Heroin or anything like that? >> No, sir. >> Okay. Um, like I said, um, I'm going to. have you do a couple exercises. Okay. Um, Sure. >> And what those are is I'm going to look. at your eyes first. Okay. >> Sure. >> Um, so what I want you have to do is. then stand right here to face me. >> All right. >> Take your glasses off. Go to look at. your eyes. Okay. I'll have you hold them. so you can put them back on afterwards. Okay. >> I'm holding. Feet together. The heels. toes touching. Keep your arms down by.
your side. It's like this. >> Feet together. Heels toes touching. >> Yep. Heels and toes touches. Keep your. arms down by your side. I know you're a little taller, so stare. at the tip of my finger right here. Okay. >> Exactly. >> All right. Follow the tip of my finger. with your eyes and eyes on. >> Keep your head still. Okay. So, just. your eyes. >> Yeah. >> I'm Did I miss a step?
>> Just make sure you keep following. >> Okay. I'm following. >> Why? be able to do this after. >> I mean. there might be but I'm willing to do it. anyway. >> What would be that reason? >> No, it doesn't matter. I'm I'm willing. to do it anyway. >> Okay. >> I'm just trying to make sure I proper. >> and I'm trying to. >> So go ahead and get back into position. >> I'm in position. >> This is one.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Do. we need extra tape for this? >> No, sir. >> No. >> So then one. Here's a turn. Here's a. turn. >> And then I'm going go nine back. Right. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9. All right. Scale from. 0 to 10. Be completely serious.
Where would I put myself at? Three. >> Three. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I believe you have too much. Okay. >> Just let you know. >> Okay. >> I disagree with that, sir. But whatever. whatever you say, >> that's what I'm letting you know. >> I mean, I hear you, but I disagree.
train. They're going to bring a train. >> We're going to walk to this black car. back here. >> I'm following you guys. >> I'm following y'all. Y'all walk.
>> And I'll follow. >> I'm walking. >> I'm not pushing. >> I am a normal person, man. What is this. crazy? >> This is just leaning against the car. here. 1235. >> I think we. >> Wow.
So what we'll do is what we base it on. is. not based on the break. But what we what. we will do is the opportunity. to talk about your life, >> man. This is how y. >> you are. You're disrespecting me. >> You want to own this for me? >> To a to a small degree, you guys are.
disrespecting me. >> All right. >> Okay. >> But I mean, it's it's you know, >> do you want her to have your property? Yes, I do. Okay. >> What about phone and wallet? >> What about it? >> Do you want her to have your phone and. wallet or do you want us to bring it. with you? >> No, I want her to have it. >> Okay. >> Um, do you want a credit card? >> Widen your stance for me. Widen your. stance more. >> Widen more. I got you. Thank you,
>> man. What a Monday night. What a Monday night. >> As the officer searches Jordan's pockets. and make sure he's not concealing. anything, Jordan's comments then take a. turn. He seems to make taunts that are. very vulgar. >> I pull all this off. You want You want. to see my You want to check under my.
too? >> No, not really. >> Go ahead. I feel like I feel like you. might be. No, >> I feel like you might be. >> Where is that? >> I don't know. The way you searching. >> Well, we got to search everybody. >> No, you can check under there. You can. check under there. It ain't. >> It's just a big and some big, bro. Yeah. Receipts for I paid for in this city. Like what the. really.
really. I mean y'all are doing the most right. now. >> Yeah. >> I didn't do anything, man. I made a I. made a wrong. >> You're arrested for being drunk. >> But that's. >> But I'm not drunk. >> All right, take a seat. >> Number one. >> My opinion is different. >> Yeah, I know. I get that. Take a seat. >> Wait, wait, wait. Wait, sir. Wait a. second. right now to go sit down. >> I'm having a conversation. >> Sit down. Cuz if not, I'm going put you. in the car and it's going to hurt. >> Hang on. Hang on. One question. You can.
ask me one question. I'll answer it and. then I want you to sit down. What's up? >> I just want to understand why y'all are. treating me as if I did something. criminal. >> Because I think you have driving under. the influence. So, I've answered your. question. Now, please sit down and I'll. answer more questions. >> Please sit down. >> I got nothing else for you, bro. >> All right. Check, sir. >> Can I sit down? Yo yo yo yo yo. Sit. down. >> Sit down. >> Yo, chill the out, bro. >> You chill out. >> Not.
yo. >> Can I ask my girlfriend? >> Don't do that again. >> Relax. >> Down. >> Relax. >> Put your feet in the car. >> Relax. Can I ask my girlfriend a. question or no? >> Put your feet in the car. I got it. right. >> Oh, wow. Okay. All right. All right. All. right. What's your name? Officer Marino. Badge 18. So, the officer notes that he found a. small baggie with white powder inside.
and wants to test it. >> Y'all act like y'all bigger than me. It's a boring Monday night, huh? So, let's arrest Marcus Jordan. Uh, >> there's a baggie with powder. I was. going to grab the wipe to uh. >> Monday night.
going to be on the bottom. >> We're going to come back to that. But. remember when I said this is an active. railroad track, right? As a tow truck. driver works to get Jordan's luxury car. off of this rocky embankment, there is a. train that comes by just a few feet away. going the opposite direction. [Music]. There's.
a baggie in his pocket. >> Yes. >> It's probably going to be cocaine. because that explains the agitation. >> Now, on the way, Jordan waffles between. being friendly and singing along with. songs like Eye of the Tiger on the. patrol cars radio to being kind of angry. that the officer doesn't know who he is. >> Y'all feel great, right? Y'all feel. great. Y'all did something good, right? Huh? Y'all can smile tomorrow.
>> Marcus Jordan. >> Is Marcus Jordan the are you like. popular or something or. >> I know exactly what the. >> I don't know. >> I don't know who you are, man. I've. never met you. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. I mean, I know you drive a nice car and. you've been drinking, right?
>> All right. You keep saying you're a big. target. Are you a celebrity or. something? >> I am. Don't act like, >> dude. I don't know who you are, man. >> Yeah, but good. So, don't ask me. >> You keep bringing it up, man. That's all. I'm asking. >> You know, act like you don't know. But. it's cool. >> You'll find out tomorrow. >> Okay. You'll find out tomorrow. Now, you. remember that baggie of white powder? Well, according to the onseen chemical. test, the substance inside was cocaine.
However, further testing at the forensic. lab revealed it wasn't cocaine. It was. actually ketamine, which can sometimes. give a false positive for cocaine on a. swab test. So, Jordan was facing three. charges here. Possession of ketamine, which is a level three felony, as well. as resisting an officer without violence. and DUI, both misdemeanors. You go to. September 11th. Jordan entered a plea. deal with the prosecutor's office. The. deal basically is if Jordan is able to.
follow a list of rules over the next 12. months, then the charges are going to be. dropped. It's what's known as a deferred. prosecution, giving the defendant the. chance to straighten up and fly right. We got our hands on the pre-trial. intervention agreement to find out what. conditions Jordan will be under for the. next 12 months. And there's a lot of. them. Okay. So, first he has to check in. with a pre-trial intervention officer. once a month. Will answer any of their. questions truthfully. That officer is. also permitted to show up at his home or. job. Has to be allowed in. In a related.
rule, by the way, Jordan is required to. have a full-time job or be attending. some sort of career training or. education program. If he wants to travel. out of state, Jordan has to get. permission. He can't leave the country. at all. By the way, he is required to do. 50 hours of community service, which he. can also seemingly opt out of by paying. $10 per hour. Jordan owes almost $500 to. the Maitland police for the cost of. their investigation, another $50 to the.
Orange County Sheriff's Office for. theirs. He is subject to urine or. breathalyzer tests at any time. Although. court paperwork does indicate that. Jordan completed a DUI substance abuse. program in Orange County back in August. He's going to have an ignition interlock. device for 6 months. Can't drink during. that time period. He's also required to. donate $1,000 to a charity on the. court's approved list. and he also has. to write a 250word letter of apology to.
the arresting officer. Now, if he can. stick to everything, the prosecutor's. office will drop the charges. On the. same day the pre-trial intervention. agreement was filed, Jordan posted on. his Instagram account, Air MJ523, "These days, I'm letting God handle all. things above me." And that's all we have. for you right now here on Sidebar. Everybody, thank you so much for joining. us. And as always, please subscribe. on.
