Will It Float? (ft. Cookie Monster)
- Today, we ask the age-old question. - Will it float? - Let's talk about that. (bright music). - Good Mythical Morning! - And please welcome one of our childhood heroes. It's Cookie Monster! - Hi-ya! - Can you believe it? - Hey, wow. - Hey. - Hiya, yeah. - Thanks for being here, Cookie Monster. - Oh, me so excited to be here. Thanks for having me. - Oh, I'm very excited.
- Yeah. - Now I got a question for you. - Wha, wha, wha, wha, wha? - We're gonna be dealing with things that float, things that don't float today. What's the first thing that comes to your mind. for something that floats? - A cookie. - Ah, okay, that was quick. - No big shocker there. - Nope. (Rhett laughs). All right, what about something that doesn't float? - A cookie. - Okay, yeah. Cookies can be different. - Different cookies. - Yeah. - You never know. - Different densities. - Could be a little wafer, that little, that could float. - Yeah. - Maybe a big, giant chocolate chippy cookie that. (sniffs). - Kinda like that. - Maybe a cookie.
like this. (Cookie Monster gasps). - Cookie! Ah! - Yeah, well, we knew you were coming, so we're prepared, but this is just one. of many cookies that we have. We've got a lot of cookies over there. - Okay, bye-bye. (crew laughs). - Well, if he's not gonna eat this one. - [Cookie Monster] Just gonna take that for the road. Excuse me. (chomping). - It's time for, - [Both] Will it Float? - Hey, could you tell me how to get, how to get to the sink or float zone? - This is it. - Oh. Welcome to the sink or float zone. Hey, Cookie Monster.
- Hey! Me so in the sink and float zone. - Yeah. (both laughing). - Me in the zone. Me ready. - Cookie Monster. I can tell. - Yes, let's do this. - This is the exactly the place to be. Cookie Monster has brought a collection of items. to unveil one by one, and our job is to guess. whether or not the items will float. It's that easy. Or is it? Now this whole idea may sound familiar, if you're old like us, because we are following. in the footsteps of our favorite host of all time, David Letterman. - Yes.
- He played Will it Float? back in the day. Cookie Monster, you ever met Letterman? - Is Dave okay with this? - He's so happy we're doing this. - Oh good. Yeah, me love this segment. - And the stakes are high for our version. of Will It Float? Because if we guess. a majority of these rounds correctly, Rhett, I am told, Cookie Monster, you are gonna give us. an invaluable piece of life advice. - Yes. Hold onto you hats. (both laughing). It's words of wisdom. Get ready. - Well, we forgot to mention, but every time.
we guess correctly, Cookie Monster gets a cookie. - Oh, please guess right. (crew laughs) Oh, please, oh please, oh please, oh, please guess right. - We're gonna try our best, but it's not as easy. as it seems because boop-a-boop-boop-boop-boop-boop, whether something floats or not involves. a super scientifical and technological element, - Hmm. - array. I'm talking about exciting engineering principles. - Oh yeah, we have a degree. - I'm talking about magical mathematics. I'm talking about STEM.
- Ooh. Yeah, STEM, science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Me love it. Boop-a-dee-boop-boop, (everyone laughing) boop-a-dee-boop-boop, boop-a-dee-boop-boop, boop-a-dee-boop-boop. - There you go. Cookie Monster's doing a boop-a-dee-boop-boops. - Me could do a boop-a-dee-boop-boop. - All right, Cookie, what's our first item? - Okay, we got one of Ernie's favorite. little bath time buddies, little rubber duckies. Oh, they so cute, and they swimming around.
in yummy sugar-free gelatin. - Nice. - Sugar-free. - Yes. - All right, now I could just walk over there and get it, but Cookie, we wanted to make you feel more at home here. - Yeah, let's bring in chocolate Chase cookie. - Chocolate? Oh! - Oh, hello. - That a cookie. - Yes. - With a face on it. - Well, it's really just our friend, Chase. Let's not- - Oh, hi, Chase. - Try not to devour him. - Me not going to do that.
- Okay. - Thank you. - You look good, though. - Oh, you too. - You look delicious. - [Rhett] That was the idea, to make him feel welcome. - I know, now it's just making him hungry. - He's very hungry. - All right, so I'm not gonna put the plate in. - Well, okay, so obviously, we know rubber duckies. by themselves would float. There's four in those. I think the assumption - But add some buoyancy. - would be that the gelatin on its own would sink, or is this reverse, reverse psychology, and actually, the gelatin would float in and of itself? And this is only gonna be even more buoyant.
with four rubber duckies. That's the question. - [Link] I feel like this thing is gonna just plummet. to the bottom, man, like here. - Oh wow. - That is heavy, Cookie. - Yeah. - Yeah. - Well it could be the plate, though. - [Link] Cookie's giving some good input here. - It's very heavy. I think it's actually heavier, now if that was all water, 'cause again, there's density. If this was just water, how much would I expect that to weigh? I think the gelatin is more dense. - Right. - I think it's gonna make up. for the rubber duckies. It's gonna be a slow sink, but it's gonna sink. - We're both saying, have you done this before?
Have you tested it? - Me have not done this, no. But me riveted. (everyone laughing). Me no wait- - Aren't we all? - Me no wait to see. - Here we go. I wonder- - Jelly push. - Loaf it into the- - Jelly push. Keep it together, (dramatic drum rolls). keep it together, keep it together. - Oh, ho, ho. - There it goes. - It sunk! We were right! - Yes! - Even the rubber duckies. didn't float. (crew laughs) (crew applauds). - And it like, it separated. (playful music).
- Huh. - Wow, this is more involved than I expected. - All right, guys. I mean, thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you, guys. - Let me just say- - Thank you. - You've never once celebrated that hard. for us getting anything right. - Are they gone? (everyone laughing). - They're gone. - Thank goodness.
(Cookie Monster chomping). Ah. Thank you for getting it right. - You're very welcome. - [Link] Rubber duckies and gelatin. Will it float? - [All] No! - All right, Cookie Monster, we're ready for our next item. - Okay, okay, Rhett and Link, you guys know your ABCs, right? - Sure, all 25 of them. - Yep. - Uh, 26. - Yes. - Right. - Yep. - Yeah, yeah.
- Yep, I know that. - You know them. You sure? - Yes. - You know your ABCs, but do you know. about your AB-skis? - Ah, ah, ah. - Ah. So we got some kid skis here? - Yeah. - [Link] Is this of the snow variety or the water variety? - Me think they snow, are they snow skis? - Yeah. - Me wasn't prepped on this one. Anyone, off camera, people? Snow skis? Okay, yeah. Yeah, they snow skis. - Snow skis. - And they alphabet blocks on top.
- All right. If only I could walk. over there and get 'em. - They squishy. - Yeah. - Listen. (blocks squeak). - Oh. - Huh. - So there's a lot of air in there. Listen. (blocks squeaking). - Some buoyancy. Oh, here's chocolate Chase. - Oh my goodness. - Hi again. - You going to take these over to them? - Yes. May I? - Please. Chocolate chippy Chase, everybody. (all laughing) Let's hear it for him. - All right. - He terrific. - Okay, Rhett, you wanna hold one, I'll hold one of these. Now, shoot, I really think-. - They're pretty plastic-y. - We wanna put 'em in this way, but then.
I think might flip. - I don't think it matters. what way you put 'em in. - And then it might float upside down. It might float this way. - I think this is gonna float, man. - It's amazing what the kids can do. - Yeah. - On skis these days. You know? I'm trying to learn how to ski at my age, and there's just these like, two year olds, shuck, just going down the hill. - Just zipping by ya! - Zipping by me, going through my legs. - Yep. - We're feeling a nice, strong float. for this one, Cookie. - Okay.
Me okay with that. Shall we? - Do we have to do both of them? I mean. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - One will tell you the answer. Let's be inefficient and do both of them. - Okay. - Let's forget. about those stunt degrees. - I think we can just place it and then release it. - Place and release. - Place and release. - Okay, here we go. (dramatic drum rolls). - [Link] And release. - [Both] It floats! - We did it! - It floats! - We're two for two. - Yes! - You know what that means? Cookie dancers are back.
(playful music). - Wow, still having a great time. (playful music continues). - Me love this. Me love this cookie dance. Wow, look at 'em go. (crew laughs). What choreography. - (laughs) Yeah. Glad you guys put together a routine. - You did, yeah. Yeah. - Wow, oh, it cookie time! Yeah, you got it right. (chomps).
- You see that right there, Rhett? - Yeah, man. - That is a thrill. - That is, it's iconic. - That is iconic. - Look, he's like a vacuum, just sweeping it up. (both laughing). And it's just gone, every time. - I love you, Cookie Monster. - Me love you. - [Rhett] All right, AB skis. Will it float? - [All] Yes! - All right, what do we have here? - Ah, let's see. Oh, me think that's shark. Me think, wait, that's shark. We got a shark here.
(crew laughs). It look like a- - Well. - Some kind of bowling ball shark, we have a shark! (Link laughs). - Cookie, let's not panic. There is a shark-esque fin on top. - Yeah, me see it. - But there's also. some sort of tentacles on the bottom. - It's got legs. - Yeah. - Wait, listen. Dum, dum, dum, dum, dum, dum. (Rhett laughs) dum, dum, dum, da, da, dum! Uh-oh, it playing the "Jaws" theme. - (laughs) Yeah, that came right from the bowling ball. - Chase, chocolate chippy Chase, take it away.
Take that away. - Let's focus on the bowling ball part. - Take it away. - I got it. - Is this a legitimate bowling ball? - [Chase] It is a legitimate bowling ball. - Do you think a bowling ball just by itself would float? - No. - Because I mean, they are hollow. - Are they hollow? - I mean, there's holes. but then there- - There's three holes, but that's not hollow- - No, there's, I don't think it's completely solid. I think if you hit a bowling ball with a sledgehammer, it's just not gonna be just a giant chunk of something. - What do you think, Cookie? - Me think, me thought it was solid. - I know, it's so heavy. - Yeah, me thought it was.
- I mean, if bowling balls floated, wouldn't the ocean just be full of them? - Exactly. - (laughs) You know? Every day you'd see, here's another one washing up. - All right, this is obvious. (crew laughs). We're going for a sink. - You think it's gonna sink. - How heavy is it, though? - It's heavy dude, check it. - It really depends on the weight of the bowling ball. - I think it's a density thing. - I think it's gonna sink. - Me think so too. - I think it's too dense. - It is gonna be close. It's not gonna go, it's gonna like, think about floating. It will think about floating. - Okay, we'll give it some.
- And then it will plummet and sink. So we are saying sink. - It will sink. - Sink. - It will not float. - Here we go. (dramatic drum rolls). - Ah! - Oh! (buzzer buzzes). Oh, me don't get cookie. (crew laughs). - I mean look how buoyant it is. - How come we don't see these things all over the ocean? - I don't know! Swimming pools, I've never seen a swimming pool. full of bowling balls. - Me would be terrified if me saw that in the ocean. (everyone laughs). - Okay, I'm sorry, Cookie monster, that means you don't get a cookie,
but we don't have to see the dancers. - Thank goodness for that. (everyone laughs). - Bowling ball, will it float? - [Both] Yes! - All right, Cookie monster, is that what I think it is? - Yes, it is. It is something that me love to dip me cookies in, it milk! - A whole gallon of it. - A gallon of milk. And maybe we could get a glass after we finish, then we could do a little cookie dunk. (Rhett laughs). - Yeah, we'll let you do a nice controlled.
cookie dunk, okay? - Of course. Yeah. - All right. You wanna toss that over, or should we bring in chase. - Ah, here he is. (everyone laughs). He was gonna toss it, but Chase, since you here, chocolate chippy Chase. - I just like anticipating needs. - Yeah. - All right, we might- - Thank you. - Thanks, chase. You're indispensable. (crew laughs). - See, now is milk. - More dense. - Thicker than water? - Yes.
Me goodness yes. - I know blood's. thicker than water, 'cause of the saying. - But okay, so you got a cow, which is like human, like 75% water, 'cause it's an animal-. - That cow was 75% human. - No, and then a cow has milk in it. And if the milk is gonna come out of the udders, it's gotta be heavier than the water. that's already inside the cow, 'cause it's at the bottom. - What? - If a cow was swimming- - Science. - could milk still come out of his udders? - If a cow was swimming, would it turn upside down. and the udders float?
I've seen cows swim, and they just stay right side up. - Yeah. - That means the milk goes to the bottom. - Me think so, me think milk heavier than water. - Yes. - Yeah. - All right. Milk, gallon full. has to sink. - Yeah. - Isn't that what you were getting at? - Yeah, yeah, sink. (everyone laughs). Yeah, yeah. The mill is gonna sink. - Me think so. (dramatic drum rolls) - Three, two, one. - Yeah! - Yeah! - Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. - It's up! - And it sinks. - We were right!
Bring 'em in! - Yes. (Link claps). (playful music). - Yes. - They're back. - Oh, hey, they're doing something coordinated. Yes, (clapping) they're doing something coordinated. - They pulled it together. - Yeah. - Okay, they did one thing. - Way to put in the work, fellas. (Rhett laughs). Cookie time! (Cookie Monster chomping). - Wow! - That's inspirational. - I'm gonna have to start taking cover, Cookie.
(Rhett laughs). We'll get you a glass of this. - Yeah, me got to get a glass. - later. - [Rhett] All right, a gallon of milk. Will it float? - [Both] No! - Cookie monster, is that a fish in a cooler? - Yeah, yeah, me got this from Oscar the Grouch. (Rhett laughs). Right out of his trashcan. It looked like it, the frozen fish. It 10 pounds, right? - Okay. - Right, - All 10 pounds. - 10 pounds. of frozen fish, - We got a thumbs up. - and ice in the cooler, and yeah, sure smells like it.
- All right. - Yeah. - We're gonna keep it all together. - Yeah, so yeah- - Keep it house. - All right. - You're gonna close the lid. and drop it in. - Chocolate Chase cookie, come on over. - Here we go. - If it's frozen, we can have a little fish fry later. We can have cookies - Ooh, me could go for that. - and some milk. - Oh definitely, fish fry in the works. - Yeah. - Okay, so in my book, the cooler would float. - Yeah. - Ice floats. - Right. - And dead fish float. - Yeah. - And they're all together. So maybe they don't float. (laughs).
They all, this is gonna float. - So float, plus float, plus float. equals float. - Equals float. - Float plus float equals sink. - Plus float. - Plus float equals float. - Me think it gonna float though. Me just. - All right. - Me think it gonna float. - We are in agreement. - Yeah. - Float. - That this 10 pound cooler full of f-frozen fish, hoo! - No, the only thing that's 10 pounds is the fish. The cooler, I don't know how heavy it. - It's not a 10 pound fish in here. (crew laughs). We are in agreement that this is gonna float!
(dramatic drum rolls). I'm touching it, it's going down. I'm gonna let it go. (dramatic drum rolls). - It floats! - It floats! (bell dings) (playful music). - It floats! There they are! - Ooh, okay. Trevor's doing a head banging thing. Oh, oh! Here we go. - Careful. - Be careful guys. - Be careful. - This is not worth losing - Yeah. Those are some stuff- - Your cookie over. - There was some cookie on cookie collision there. - Okay. - Oh, okay. - It's over. It is over. - Me get another cookie.
Oh thank you, chocolate chippy Chase. (Cookie Monster chomping). - Wow. - Here, me good to share. - Whoa, nice. (Link chomping). - [Cookie Monster] Yes, there you go. - What? What do I get? (crew laughs). I get the fish? - Yeah. - We get to do a fish fry. - No, no, I'm good, I'm good, I'm good, I'm good, I'm good. Okay, so a cooler full of fish and ice.
Will it float? (bell dings). - [All] Yes! - That means we get some life advice from you, Cookie Monster. - Yeah. - But before we do, there's somebody that we wanna introduce you to. I think you get along with 'em really well. It's Mecca Cookie from Sesame Street Mecca Builders. - Hiya, Rhett.
