Will It Chicken Fingers? (Taste Test)
- Today we ask the age old question. - "Will it Chicken Fingers?". - Let's talk about that. (bright music). - Good mythical summer. - We're two grown men and we love chicken fingers. - And if you got a problem with that, you can shove it up your guess what? - What? - Chicken butt. (Link laughing). - In honor of that great joke. and in honor of the most iconic.
and beloved finger food known to man, it's time for, "Will it Chicken Fingers?". - Sometimes you want everything, but other times you just want chicken. - But what if you could have both everything and chicken? This is the finger everything. - Yes. - Nicole, what did you do? - [Nicole] So we took everything bagel seasoning. and put our chicken fingers in there, deep fried it, and then there is a cream cheese. and bagel chip dip for your pleasure.
- Oh, dang. - So there is a chicken beneath this. - [Nicole] Yes, it is a chicken tender. - Everything's going to have chicken in it. Can you name all of the spices on an everything bagel? - [Nicole] Wow, you know, I got to really think about it. There's definitely poppy seeds, granulated onion, granulated garlic, sesame seeds, and maybe salt, and that's all I know. - Okay. I'm sure the comments won't say all the rest. - [Nicole] No. - That did seem like everything. - Maybe a caraway seed, depending on...
- I mean, I'm looking, poppy? You said that already? - [Nicole] I think poppy was first. - We went to Camp Caraway in sixth grade. and Link didn't poop the entire week. - [Nicole] Maybe this will help him. - Was it all the seeds? - Yeah, I only eat seeds all week. This is so salty. - Dang, this is a lot. Wow. Doing things. - Everything is too much sometimes.
- Yeah. Especially all at once. - The garlicy-ness of everything. - Especially if it's everywhere. - Mhm, mhm. Available now on streaming? What? What are you doing? - It's a movie reference. - Okay yeah, yeah, yeah. - They're making another movie, those guys. - And it's called? - I don't know. - That's a good name for a movie. - Yeah.
We do keep going back to it though, don't we? - I mean, the way that you were able to bread it. so deeply with everything. - I feel like if I had a mineral deficiency, I would be really into this. You know what I mean? Like, I feel like I don't need to have salt for a week. - Yeah. - Based on eating half. of that. - It can't be good for the blood pressure. Oh my god. Oh, oh. What if I had a heart attack right here on the show? - That'd be cool. It'd be cool.
- I mean, Nicole, how would you feel? - Yeah, because-. - [Nicole] I would call 911. and I would just panic like silently. - All right, good. - [Nicole] Yeah. - Because Rhett's going to be over here saying, "Oh, it's cool.". - No, no, no. This episode would get like more views than ever. "Did you see the one where had Link had a heart attack?". 'Cause you'd be fine. - I would be fine afterwards. Probably okay. We're complaining about how salty this is. I cannot eat a whole finger. - Yeah, and that feels like... - But I don't think you should go lighter. I think you did it right. - You did it right, but we can't eat a whole finger. So everything bagel, "Will it Chicken Fingers?".
No. - This next item is Christmas themed. And I know what you're thinking. "Christmas and summer? You'd be crazy to try that.". Well, guess what? I am crazy. I'm crazy for Christmas being turned into a chicken finger. Please welcome, Santa, come on, come on. I don't know if I want to welcome it. Please welcome Santa's little fingers. You want to touch Santa's little finger? - I'm scared now. - You want to sit on Santa's lap. and touch his little fingers?
- For all the children. - It's summertime. Santa's hot, boy. Sweating on all this. - Is he going to start de-robing? - Santa's going to have to de-robe. - Or is he going to disrobe? Okay. Nicole, what'd you do? - [Nicole] So I took the chicken fingers. and I dipped them in a fruitcake batter, fried them up, and I made sure to get a lot. of ham essence into the actual finger. - That's what I like to hear. - Ham essence? - [Nicole] Yes ham essence. - How does one acquire ham essence? - [Nicole] So I used a little bit of pork bouillon.
I used a little bit of honey baked ham seasoning, some MSG. So I just let my chicken finger sit in that. for like 24 hours. And then of course the fruitcake batter. And then on top is a little pineapple. and those cute little cherries that you get, you know? I don't know guys, it's my first Christmas. I'm trying. I'm trying really hard here. - Right. Oh gosh, it's falling apart. Okay, I want to get, - Summer Christmas. - I want to make sure that the breading is on there. and then I'm going to chase it with this.
And what's the dip? - So it's a cranberry sauce scented. with pine and peppermint. - You're crazy too, huh? We're both a little bit crazy for summer Christmas. - Oh my gosh. - [Nicole] Is it festive? - It's weird. - You give this to the bad kids. - So weird, the D turned to a T. Weirt. - It tastes exactly like the kind.
of thing that would be given to you by someone. who was acting like him a second ago. You know, like something you'd be like, "I don't think I should be eating this.". - You don't get a present, but I got a little parting gift for you, child. That kind of thing? The sauce is what really threw me. It's so pepperminty. - I've never thought, - So candy-caney. - I wanted more pine in my mouth. - Yeah. - You know? And I still don't think that. - The fruitcake batter though, just on its own,
- The chicken's real soft too. - It's also bad. No, it's not really bad. It tastes like cereal. - I can taste the ham in the chicken. - Like fried cereal. You can taste the ham in the chicken. - The essence of ham, you know? It's subtle, but it feels like, it broke it down a little bit. - Fruitcake doesn't taste good. - No. - It's just to have. It's a tradition.
When you're creating a new tradition, it's just something. that you need to force on people. - You ever seen anybody eat one? I've seen them gifted. - Right. That's what can happen with this. And that's why it does will, because we can force it on people. - Because you just give it to somebody. It's the thought that counts and then they give it. to someone else. - Yep. Yep. Chase, we want you to have this. - [Chase] Do I have to? - Yes. - Yeah, yeah. - [Link] You have to, because Christmas, "Will it Chicken Fingers?". Yes! - [Rhett] Yes! Spicy chicky fingies are nothing new.
Been there, done that. But can a chicken finger coexist in the same plane. as the modern era king of spicy? I'm talking about Buldak ramen, of course. Introducing, finger inferno. Is this going to be spicy, Nicole? - [Nicole] Yes, very much so. It's quite a spicy situation. - In what way? - [Nicole] So I took the Buldak ramen. and I was going to coat it in the ramen, like the dry ramen, but I'm like, "You know what?
I think it's time for us to be a little creative.". So I made a batter with the pieces of ramen along. with the actual Buldak sauce, some of the seasoning packet. - You like, ground it up. - [Nicole] Yes, I ground it up. But you will get little pockets. of like, whole ramen in there too, which is, you know, a fun little bite. And then I made my own spice seasoning to go over it. with a lot of MSG, a little bit of chili powder, some gochugaru, gochujang, stuff like that. And then the dipping sauce is made out of the Buldak, actual sauce with tons of mayonnaise. and a little bit of sesame oil.
- It's very pretty. - Tons of mayonnaise. - [Nicole] Thank you. - Oh, I'm a little bit scared. - Should we be scared? - [Nicole] Yeah. - It doesn't smell that hot. It doesn't have that like, death scent that we've come. to know from really hot stuff. - [Nicole] Well, I covered it up with all that sesame oil. - Why does Blaine have his hands on milk over there? - [Nicole] Because he's worried about you. - Is that for him? - No, we have milk, bananas and pepto just in case. - Okay, all right. - [Nicole] And I have 911 on speed dial. in case Link has a heart attack. - Go hard, man. - I did.
My whole tip is covered. - Okay. Well, my tip's wider than your tip. - Well, that's the end that I grabbed. - Well, you grabbed the wrong end. - Not really. - Okay. - Air dink? - Air dink. And sink. Did I just? It tastes good. - It tastes like, mm. Mm. Hm.
- I'm waiting on it. - It's a good taste, but I can tell that there's heat coming. Okay. - Okay, okay. Well, okay. - It's a slow build. - Yeah, but it's building. - Because I'm tempted to go in again. - I am going to go in again. - But I'm afraid that if I do, - I'm going back in. - It's one of those things that's like, it's like I can feel the top of my head getting hot. - Well, let's get the bottom. - But my mouth is not hot. That's what's interesting about it. It's like, referred pain or something.
- It tastes great. - Mhm. - It's not too crazy hot. - Mm-mm. It's beautiful. And I can taste the ramen concentrate. - Yeah. Breading. - And like the batter really, it worked. Like it's a good consistency. I'm going to eat this whole thing. - Ugh. - Should I not? Should I stop? - [Nicole] Yolo. - It does get hotter.
- Should I invest in the future Rhett? Should I think about how I'm going. to feel about this an hour from now? - Oh. - Or should I think. about what Rhett wants right now? - Without now Rhett, there would be no future Rhett. - That's right. - I'm going to go in too. because now Link is going to become future Rhett. - Hey. (Link laughing). (staff laughing). - I'm just glad it's this flavor. - I'm going to eat. I feel like I should just eat the whole finger.
at this point. Did you think this was going to happen? - This is the best one. I mean, it is hot. But it's a really rewarding hot. It's the Buldak hot. You want to finish mine? - No. - Usually the mouth burns, but like the top of my head. and my stomach are burning. - My ears are on fire right now. - What did you do?
- [Nicole] I don't know. - You're like a ventriloquist spicy person. Do you have your hand up? - Did you know that you were doing some sort. of magic with it? - [Nicole] No, I didn't, but I'm so flattered right now. - I'll take a little milk. - [Nicole] Okay. - Oh, come on. It's not that-. - Just a little milk for the bull. - Why'd you bring both of them, Blaine? - Buldak. - Do I look like I need milk? - All right. Buldak ramen, "Will it Chicken Fingers?". Yes! - [Rhett] Yes! You should get your chicken fingers on a signed copy.
of our kids' book, "Spaghetti Head and Chicken Fingers.". We also have a whole collection. of items inspired by the book. - This is all exclusively sold at mythical.com. The special, I'm going to call that anodized, even though I don't even know what. that word means, signature. - That's like a metallurgy thing. - Yeah. Show them the T-shirt. - Oh, crap. - We got little T-shirts. - [Link] Look how little this T-shirt is. - For little smart kids. - I could wear it on my head. All right. So get all of this. - Mythical.com. - Mythical.com. "Spaghetti Head and Chicken Fingers" is raising. the next generation right. - And now we have another announcement. that we would like to make. The peanut butter boys are back!
- Here we are. And more specifically, the Reese's peanut butter boys. I'm excited for this one. Presenting Reese's peanut butter coop. - Get it? - Chicken coop? - Instead of cup. - Cup, coop. - Coop, because it's chickens. - Okay. All right. Nicole. Well, finger my chicken and butter my cup, but we didn't. - Yeah, we didn't because of the kids book. - Okay. Nicole, what did you do? - [Nicole] I took my chicken fingers. and I marinated them in peanut butter and buttermilk.
And then I toasted cereal, actually. You know how you're talking. about the fruitcake tastes like cereal? This is actual Reese's Puffs. - Oh my god. - [Nicole] That I breaded the chicken fingers in. And then on the side is a salted chocolate ganache. for dipping. - Ganache? What makes a ganache? - [Nicole] I like to think that like using cream. and milk makes a ganache. - Okay. - [Nicole] Thank you so much. - Sort of your own truth. - [Nicole] Yeah, and then there's a peanut butter powder. over the top.
- Of what? - [Nicole] On your chicken. - Of your chicken fingers. - Okay. I'm just going to eat mine straight. before I go with the ganache. - Oh, I'm ganaching from the beginning. - I want to just peanut butter it. Hm. Weird, but. - Peanut butter and chicken, that's the thing like in Thai food. - Mhm. - [Rhett] The chocolate, though. - This is more just straight up peanut buttery. I can definitely get the cereal part.
of it, which adds a nice crunch. - I feel like the only part of it. that's not really working is the chicken. - Yeah, if only. - If I had to narrow it down. - If only. - Everything else, I mean. - Why did you put chicken in this? Gosh! - The chocolate and the peanut butter is pretty great. Yeah, I just don't know if I can go there. But I will say, you'd be the most popular house.
on the cul-de-sac if you put these out at Halloween. - You think? Why? - Oh yeah, because people love. when you do the Reese's peanut butter cups as a full gift. Give them the tenders? - That's true. There's a chicken in there. - Yeah. - That's what I'll say to every single person. There's a chicken in there. - Are you going to be dressed as Santa? - Yeah. - Please don't be. - Yeah, a summer Santa. - Yeah, there's a year-round Santa at that house. He's a summer Santa. - Keeps having to disrobe. - Yeah, it's weird.
- This is a disappointment. - Yeah, I'm just kinda standing here, unwilling to dip again. - I mean, when Rhett can't take a second bite. - Yeah. - I took a second bite because I took the first one. without the chocolate and I had to give it a go. Take one without the chocolate. See if it's better. Peanut butter and chicken. Think Thai food, but cereal. - It is better without the chocolate. But that's not what we're testing here. - Nope. - It's both and. - [Link] Reese's peanut butter cup, "Will it Chicken Finger.".
No. - [Rhett] No. (buzzer blaring). - Stomach not feeling great. - Should I have not eaten the whole one. of those chicken tenders? The hot one? Is that what's getting me? - I think that's what's happening. Yeah. - Yeah, I heard a rumble. - Let's just keep moving forward. This is the last one. We can get through it. I love it when opposites compliment each other, like me and Rhett, or me and Rhett's wife, who is here today. Yep. She's watching. Rhett, your wife is here and she's watching.
Here we have sweet and sour chicken, but not like that. - But not like what? - Not like what you would think. of sweet and sour chicken. 'Cause this is green, first of all. And there's some sort of... - [Rhett] What is that in the dip? - Look at the dip. - It's nothing. - Is it a crystal? - [Nicole] It's corn syrup, sillies. That's the sweet! - [Rhett] Corn syrup looks like that? A non-Newtonian liquid?
- [Nicole] Yeah, what else? Oh. Yeah, you know, go ahead and drizzle it on. I don't care. Whatever, it's the last round. - Is it the kind of thing where if you like hit it hard, it bounces off and then... - Yeah. - Oh, it is? - Look, completely dry. Completely dry! - Oh. - You went too hard. - Little bit wet. (staff laughing). - Came back up. - Nicole. - [Nicole] Yeah. - That was a trick. - What you know about corn syrup getting on pants? - [Nicole] Oh, I got a hack for that. - It's not as bad as oil, right?
- [Nicole] No, it's not. It's okay. - Come on. It's sugar water. - [Nicole] A little flour. A little flour. - A non-Newtonian stain. - Okay. - What did you do, Nicole? - [Nicole] I marinated my chicken fingers in malic acid. and then I breaded them. as you would a normal chicken finger. Then I put some homemade green sour goo on there. and then I took a combination of malic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid, and sprinkled that on top. - That's too many acids. - [Nicole] I don't think so. I think we can do more acids!
(Rhett laughing). So yeah, take a bite. - We can do more acids? - Yeah, we can do more acids. - [Nicole] Yes, plural. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. More acids for everyone. - I don't feel great about putting this in there. - [Nicole] You need an antacid. - No, no, it'll balance it out. - Oh. - It'll fix it. Anything that's gone wrong, it'll fix it. Yeah. - It'll fix it. - It'll fix it. - It'll fix it. - That's right. - Will it also fix your pants? I know you're upset about your pants. - No, no. - It's fine. - No, it's already gone. - It's already gone. - Already gone. - These are new pants, aren't they? - Well, yeah.
Have you seen me wear them before? - Uh-uh. - No, they're very old pants. that I've just kept for a long time. - I'm trying to reach out to you, man, about your pants. - Yeah. - And you're just thumbing your nose at me. - They're new pants. Yep, new pants. First time I ever wore them. - Rhett got some new khakis. and I already broke them in for him.
It's sour, mate. - When you're eating something in front. of the person who made it, - You don't want to. (staff laughing). - You don't want them to know. that you're having a horrible time. - What makes you think I'm having a horrible time? - Yeah, yeah. - [Nicole] Link, why's your hand up? What's going on? You okay?
- I don't want to get hit by all your talent. - I know. I feel like it could use more acids. - We should do more acids. - Okay. Wow. There's something kind of tantalizing about it, you know? - [Nicole] Yeah, I can't help you, man. - Especially with the sugar. You just get a little bit of that sugar, that. - Don't do it again, dude. - No, straight corn syrup. I've never just had it like that.
I like it. You can just have sugar liquid like that. Hm. - You know, they keep so many wet wipes here. Yeah, every episode we have wet wipes on the side. because we always need wet wipes. And I was in my normal life, I was hanging out with friends and I was eating. I was like, "Can I have a wet wipe?". I just asked. - You asked a group of friends? - I just asked a group of friends, like I just expected them to have a wet wipe.
Blaine, I need you to start traveling. with me and my friends. - Did they? - No. - What did they say? - They just looked at me like I was crazy. - Said, "He's asking for a wipe.". - I was like, "Oh yeah, I'm not at work right now. I'm just eating in my normal life.". - "You guys are not my work friends. I shouldn't ask you that. You guys are my real friends.". - It's kind of like, the best way I know. to describe it is like if you're looking at a real picture. and then you want to see it more closely and.
before you know it, you're trying to do that, the pinch and stretch to zoom in on it. That's my version of that. Give me a wet wipe. - I understand what you're talking about. Sweet and sour, "Will it Chicken Fingers?". No. - [Link] No. - Okay, two out of five today. Not too bad. - Oh god. - Thank you, Nicole. - [Nicole] Thank you. - No, I actually feel pretty bad. - Okay. Well, it'll all mix up into something nice. - Yeah. I'm sure I'll be completely better by the more. Thanks for being your mythical best.
