What's The Best Street Corn Snack?
Which Mexican street corn snack is the street corniest? Let's talk about that. ((Intro Music)). Good Mythical Morning! Corn can be savory and corn can be sweet, but. that actually sounded like I was gonna start a poem. Oh, continue. Corn can be savory and corn can be sweet, but if. you slather on some mayo, sprinkle it with cotija,
cheese, and Tajín, and then rub it down with some butter, it becomes transcendite. Oh, there you go. I was waiting for the rhyme. It becomes elote. Elote. Or as my dad would most likely call it. Elliot! ((Laughing)). Yep, that's, wow, that is so accurate. And because it's so good, Mexican street corn has made. its way into all types of snacks, so we want to know. which snack can replicate the taste of Elliot better. than Link's dad can say it. It's time for Super Snack Flavor Match.
Mexican Street Corn Edition! ((Upbeat Music)). Alright, let's see how these street corn. flavored snacks "stonk" up! Stack up. Starting with Cheetos. I get it. Mexican Street Corn. Now, we first have to. Right here. Did not know that existed. Acquaint ourselves or reacquaint ourselves. with Mexican street corn. This is something that we didn't have until we moved out. here to this wonderful state. My life is so much better because of this. Like, I've never seen it on a menu, ordered it.
Or seen it in a cart and got it and not been happy. Oh, I thought you were gonna just end that sentence. without saying, and not been happy, and I was like, wait, you never ordered it? Oh, I order it every time now. I don't want you to have to watch a bearded man eat. this, so I'm gonna turn away. ((Laughing)). It's just so messy. And then what? Do you need a? I probably need to take a napkin on my trip. You need a rag? Take a napkin on your trip. I'm gonna take a paper plate, a paper plate? A paper towel. And hell, I'll take a spoon. ((Laughing)). See y'all in a little bit.
This is so good. Lily, in the original version, it's not. mayonnaise, it's crema? - [Lily] Sí. Okay, but mayonnaise is kinda like the go to now? So that's what, that's what. - [Lily] It has a little bit of a tangier taste to it. Oh my God. It's so good. I didn't need this spoon. Why do I love it so much? It's so good. Because it's, it's just something that you think you know so. well, and then these toppings get slathered on it, and.
it becomes this magical new thing that you're just eating. on the side of the road. It's such a visceral. I'm back. Journey. Alright. I think I did a pretty good job eating it and. also cleaning myself. I don't know what I said to stall. Something about a journey. Yeah, you said something about on the side of the road? Scale it. One to ten. Scale it? I mean, it is tangy. It hits you. - It's very spicy. - It's very good.
It's spicier than that one. There is a corn flavor in Cheetos because. they're made of corn. - [Link] That should help it, right? - [Rhett] Think that this is really gonna help. It's not that similar to what I just ate, though. No. - [Rhett] It's a solid snack, though. If you look at the package while you're eating it, it. does help it taste like that. You see the, I taste the lime. It's a little too spicy. It is very good, as far as like the accuracy. Four. Looking at it, it went from a three to a four.
I'm gonna give it a five. I think it's, I think it's okay. I mean, it is corn. Oh. What? - [Rhett] You need to clean up too. I tried. I don't know how you, how did you get felt from corn? You got felt on you. You got felt. Did you get the felt version of corn? Are we feeding him felt versions again? We did that for a whole year. Remember 2017? He ate nothing but felt on this show and didn't. realize it until December. My poops were so fluffy. That is a total of Nine! ((Upbeat Music)).
Okay, now we've got Blue Diamond Bold. Elote Mexican Street Corn almonds! - [Link] Blue Diamond Bold is always. - [Rhett] Bold. In the conversation in our Super Snack flavor matches. They do a good job over there. Now this is Blue Diamond 1.0. This is the, this is the O.G. That's a throwback for people who watch every episode. and remember everything that we do on this show. I don't. If you don't know what I'm talking about, like Link, who is also here for it. You talking about the three?
The three. Oh, the three. Yeah. This is interesting. I would not call it bold, but I would call it creamy. Like it's. But if you were eating this and you didn't, and like, you were at a party and there was just a bowl of. these and you started eating them, you'd probably be like, this is good, but what would you be like, I'd have to ask. somebody, what flavor is that? I wouldn't know it was elote. The creaminess of the mayo and the butter is.
a big part of elote. I'm just surprised that it's the first thing I'm getting. I'm gonna lick daddy a bunch of them. - [Link] That's a good idea. Just a mouthful. Oh, do that. I think the creaminess comes from the almond, which is not corn. Do it. So, I think that's a plus. This starts really tasting like elote when you. put a bunch in your mouth and don't chew them. Tell me there's not a strong butter flavor. Butter is exactly what I was about to say. It's a strong butter flavor. You need more.
Which is pretty awesome. Fill it up, man. The more. The more almonds, the more butter flavor. There's the tang from the, from the mayo. Now I'm gonna turn away so you don't have to. see me spit these out. You know what? I'm just gonna eat them. Now I just taste almonds. That was not a great strategy just for snacking. Okay. That's a great flavor and a very similar flavor. when you just suck on it. Cause then, the spice hits and you're like, cause you.
think, this is butter corn. No. This is freaking elote. I think I'm at an eight. Well, I think I just discovered the best. way to eat these. Suck them down. You do a 1.5. second lick daddy, and then you take a bite. I just did that. That's great. Seven. No corn in it. I'm not gonna go crazy. I'm not gonna be an eight, but I'm going to seven. - [Link] For a total of Fifteen! ((Upbeat Music)). Corn Nuts! Corn Nuts!
If these don't do it. Man, they have a distinct advantage, don't they? I don't know what will. - [Rhett] Corn Nuts. Wow. I overlook these so often. Did you know there are six major types of corn? Pod corn, popcorn, sweet corn, flour corn, dent. corn, or flint corn. Flint corn? Popcorn is one of the types of corn. Who's making these corn rules? - [Link] I don't know. Yeah. - [Link] Corn Nuts always bring the crunch. It's got the cornness going for it for sure. - [Link] We gotta do that lick daddy thing. Throw a bunch in your mouth and just, no chewing.
Cause I would just think these are regular. Corn Nuts at this point. Yeah, with a little bit of spice, but. Oh, you know what really comes through? Lime. Lime really comes through. Which we didn't actually lime up our things. Yeah. Maybe we should do that. We could do that. Now, I want to do something. Could you lime me as well? Could you lime both of us? Sure. Well, sure, buddy. Turn it over to lime it. Lime the other. Oh, no, actually, yeah, lime that side.
Now, now I'm gonna do this thing versus turning around. Lily, it is my understanding that when I do what I'm doing. right now, I'm literally making a completely new dish. - [Lily] Yes, it's called esquites. Esquites. Is that Spanish for knife and some corn? - [Lily] I think it translates to that, exactly. Okay. So basically when you take street corn off of the cob. You create esquites.
Right. And the act of doing that is called skeeting. Ah, yes. Uh huh. So, es-skeet, skeet skeet taste. Right. I'm an expert skeeter. Skeeter McLaughlin. Man, that's so good. Oh, it is. Should always come with floss, though. Corn Nuts. Back to this now that we've got some, we've got some lime. Well. I forgot not to chew. It's very complimentary, and you realize that.
when you go back to it. You know what the thing they're not doing that. the Blue Diamond did? The butter flavor. There is no butter flavor. They're, they're afraid to add a butter flavor. Well, I don't know if they're afraid. You think the people at Corn Nuts are afraid? This is a nice solid seven for me. I agree with you on that. I don't think they, they didn't completely nail it, but the corn is doing so much heavy lifting because you're. essentially just eating corn.
Yes. Heavy lifting. You know what I'm saying? It's a phrase we say a lot on this show. Heavy lifting. Let's start using the term light lifting more. And what's the total? - [Rhett] Fourteen. ((Upbeat Music)). Hey, it's a new year, but we're doing what we did. last year with the Pin of the Month Club all year. Remember, we're going to have a collectible pin. Every single month, it's available for 24 hours. This is the first one that will be available this. coming Monday, January 29th. It is the Be Your Mythical Best pin. You know what? Maybe you should set a reminder.
Hey Google, remind me on Monday about. the Pin of the Month. You're welcome. Commandeering their Google, man. Alright, now we've got Herr's Fire Roasted Sweet. Corn Mexican Street Corn. Sweet corn, street corn. Sweet corn, street corn. You're still doing poetry. Well, we know that sweet corn is a type of. corn, and so is popcorn. So, which is this? Oh, wow. The initial taste in my mouth was. Sweet? Very reminiscent.
Of what? Something. It tastes like artificial sweetener to me. The very first thing was. Almost a kettle corn-ish. - [Link] So, why are they adding sweet? - [Rhett] Well, is there anything sweet in the, in the elote? - [Lily] The corn is sweet. itself. Yeah. But, I don't want to taste that first. I mean, after that. It's pretty corny. It does have the, the spice.
It does have the butter. How did they get the corn, popcorn that's sold in. bags to look like this? How come I can't get corn that I pop to look like this? You know what I'm saying? They're so spherical. Like, what do y'all do with the plants? You know, what are they doing in the factory? Like, you can pop corn all day at your house and you'll never. get it to look like this. But they pop it at the factory, they get. it to look like this. Bulbous. I mean, I wanna know. Inquiring minds wanna know. Lily, do you know? - [Lily] I don't know, but I think that they're air popping it. Cause there's no sort of oil or fat to it.
Alright, this is growing on me. You don't mean there's like? It's getting better and better. There's people at the factory known as corn fluffers. Oh gosh. I just corned on the desk. All right, I'm gonna give this a score. Whoops. And that score is gonna be. Six. Honestly, I started at a four, then I went to a five, and. now I'm definitely at a six. Yeah, I'm at six. Pretty strong. That's a total of twelve. ((Upbeat Music)). We got some Goodles.
It's that proteininated mac and cheese, and this one. is Hey Hey Elote flavored. It has cotija cheese in it. This is a little bit of a twist. This is a little bit of an outlier. - [Link] I kind of found myself wanting to like sprinkle. some Tajín on it. - [Rhett] Oh, I'm sure you could. Unless those corn police show up, the ones that. make the rules about what kind of corn there is. Yeah, important job. - [Rhett] What's your first thought?
- [Link] It's tasty. I do like it. It has a little bit of that bland corn taste, which is. actually a good thing about corn, which is this weird. thing that happens with corn. You know, like, that's why I love a tamale, because. it's got like this bland taste that is somehow good. I don't know, you know what I'm talking about? You know I love bland taste. I would add. It's bland, but then not bland on the inside. A squirt of mayonnaise to this and some. Tajín. You really want to do a lot to this. Over the top.
To me, it feels like it's not delivering. If you're trying to squirt on it and. Right. Sprinkle on it. I mean, I might need to skeet it too. It's really good though. I keep going back to it. I don't think I would know what flavor it was. I don't taste a lot of butter. It's weirdly. creamy in texture, but not creamy in taste. Does that make sense? Yes. And I think that's because of the nature of the noodle. Which normally doesn't taste great, in my opinion. I'm gonna go with a five. This is the best flavor I've ever had of this. But, in terms of it being like the thing that we want.
it to be like, yeah, I'm gonna give it a strong fiver. - [Rhett] For a total of 10. ((Upbeat Music)). And finally, we have a snack that we have tasted before. The Organic Elote Corn Chip Dippers from Trader Joe's, with a Mexican style street corn flavored seasoning. I mean, look at how much seasoning is on this pocket. - [Rhett] Yeah. - [Link] I got a big one. There's a lot of flavoring on this. A lot of seasoning. A lot of pepper, it looks like.
Okay. Well, I remember liking these, and they're still. good, and that corn chip is doing some light lifting. Actually, it's doing heavy lifting. I just didn't want to say it again. - [Link] It is spicy. It's doing some very intense light lifting. I gotta do some lick daddy with one that has less on it. - [Rhett] That's a good taste. That's accurate. I mean, right now. Wow. Whoa. Almonds are in the number one position to be,
Street Corn Brian. The flavoring on the almonds. The almonds themselves send the experience. in a non corn place. You know, that's what makes it confusing. That butter though. I'm getting a little butter flavor in these. Really lick daddy one. Okay. And thank butter as you're doing it. Thank you butter for everything you add to a dish. That's not what I meant, but I like it more. You're always a welcome addition. Mom and dad.
I, now I worship butter. Can we pray to butter before our meal? Spicy. I like the spice and I think spice is actually. often a part of the experience if you really want it to be. But you're right. I lick daddy-ed the butter. It is there. I gotta go with a 9. Link? I'm not gonna go all the way to 9, but I. don't think I have to. I'm gonna go to an 8 for a total of 17! And you know what?
That is enough to make Trader Joe's Organic. Elote Corn Chip Dippers, our Street Corn Brian. If you want a snack that tastes like street corn, this is the one to get. He likes to just be called Street Brian though, you know? I dropped the middle name because it gives me more cred. Yeah. I don't want the corn people coming after me. Thanks for subscribing and clicking that bell! You know what time it is. I'm Paige. I'm Laura. And we're at Baker's Candies in Greenwood, Nebraska. And I'm currently eating a Mexican street.
corn flavored sucker. Yum. And it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. Yum. ((Laughing)). - Yum. - Yum indeed. Click the top link to watch us match cities to their. flag in Good Mythical More.
