What Foods Survive Underwater?
- What's the best food to get wet? - Let's talk about that. (swaying rhythmic music). (swaying rhythmic music ending). "Good Mythical Morning.". - Ya know, you're gonna eat in all types of scenarios. - Yeah. - And we are there for you in all of those scenarios, including the wet ones. - Hmm. - Ya might be dining on a overlook on a body of water. You might be boating and eating. You might be swimmin' and eatin', if you're desperate.
And you got to know what to get. in your plate or from the menu. Ya gotta know what food to order. in order to pull it out of the water. All of this is rhyming now. - Wow. (crew member laughing). - Ya gotta know what food to order if it falls in the water. in order to eat what you order. Orda. - Exactly what Link just said. (crew member laughing). All of that is why we are here today.
- What's the best food to eat. if it happens to fall in the water. and you need to dig it up and keep eatin' all day? - Yeah, that was as short as you could have said it. (crew member laughing). (warm resonant guitar music). (water bubbling). - [Mikayla] Hello, my wet napkins. (Rhett laughing). - What up, Mikayla? - [Mikayla] What's up? - Are you a boater? - [Mikayla] Boater? - Yeah. - [Mikayla] No. - Okay, fine. (Mikayla laughing). Sorry I asked. - [Mikayla] Well, see... Okay, we have this game. Behind you, there is a Nutter Butter, a Klondike bar, and a Crunchwrap Supreme. Everything will be unwrapped. (Link laughing).
- Okay. - And then. you're gonna draft the food. you think will hold up the best underwater. - Yes. - Hmm. - So, the loser has to take a bite of both the foods, I guess wet. - Both of 'em. - [Mikayla] Both of 'em. So, don't lose this round. - (laughing) Okay. - [Mikayla] And since you tied last time, Link can go first. because Link rhymes with "sink" and we're in a rhyming mood. - Well-. - And water's in sinks. - I'm gonna choose the Klondike bar. because it seems rather impervious.
- Okay. - Thank you, sir. - I'm gonna go off of my burrito experience before. - Ooh. It's not quite as impervious-. - Yeah, I don't know if I would have chosen that. I'm gonna choose a Crunchwrap Supreme. because my burrito held up really well last time, and the Crunchwrap Supreme is kinda like a burrito. Huh, kinda like a burrito. - So we're gonna dunk at the same time, hold for the same amount of time, which is a minute? - [Mikayla] 60 seconds, yes. - 60 seconds. - I'll put the folded side-. - Oh, I just dropped it! - Okay, okay. - Drop it, drop it. - I dropped it, I dropped it. - Now, why would you do that?
- I put it in exactly the same time as you did. because of that. - And then push it down now. Fully submerge. Don't be so scared of it. - Well, I wish I had a weighted netted bag. (laughing). You remember those, last time? I don't know. if we had a weighted netted bag that was big enough. - Oh god, look at what is happening to my water. - Yeah, it looks like you're gonna be eating a Klondike. and a Crunchwrap Supreme. - But I bet it's gonna taste better. I mean, that is part of it. - No, it's not. It's which one holds up more structurally. It's the structural integrity.
That's what we discussed last time. - I think taste is important. - Mine feels like it's holdin' up very well. Yours is continuing to disintegrate. - There is a-. - [Rhett] And fall to the bottom. - A belly button in the middle of the Crunchwrap though. - Yeah. - And I think. there has gotta be some water getting in there. - Oh, there's water gettin' in, but it's not falling apart. And here we go. Two, one. - [Mikayla] Pull it out, pull it out.
- Okay. (water dripping). Oh, that thing's soaked. It's like a sponge. - But look how good it's holdin' up. - [Mikayla] It is. So y'all are gonna do a gentleman's agreement. to see who's held up best, and then y'all know what to do. - The water is kinda-. - Well, which one do you think held up best? (crew laughing). I mean, if you saw this from a distance, you would think, "Oh, that's a Crunchwrap Supreme,". and you wouldn't know until ya got close to it. that it was completely soaked. Yours is slidin' off the plate!
Look at what happened to your water! It turned into milk! - I do think that... (plate clinking). - There ya go. - I mean, taste is a factor. I'm not afraid to taste this because I'm sure-. - Well, hold on, but then you gotta choose things. that you like the taste of. No, it's which one holds up better? We're assuming. that the person that ordered this while boating. liked the thing that they ordered. - I think it's after it fell in. and you dished it and you dug it out,
would you be more willing to eat it? - Well, you can make up the rules as you go. - If you think this is so much better, then why not take a bite out of it. and tell me how much you like it? - Because them's not the rules, brother! - [Mikayla] He didn't lose. You lost. - The rules is when I lose a round, which I'm sure I will, I'll eat both things. Just like you're about to eat this Crunchwrap Supreme. And let me tell ya right now, it's not gonna be crunchy. (Rhett laughing). But it looks great. It really held up. Look at that.
I mean, look at that. It really held up. How's the water? - It's warm in there. - Now the overall loser will have to drink a cup of water. that has all of the residual water from every round mixed. And I'm believing it's going to be about that color. based on what's already happening. - Hmm. - So there is something at stake here. - This, even though it didn't hold up, was- - Sure. It tastes great. - Demonstrably more enjoyable.
And if that doesn't count for anything today, (laughing) I don't know who we are. - (laughing) It doesn't. (warm resonant guitar music). (water bubbling). - [Mikayla] Alright, this round has hand roll, a pile of dookie, I mean lava cake, (Rhett and Link laughing). and then a Denver omelet at regular elevation. - And ya know what, I took a beat. I know who we are. - Who are we? - [Mikayla] Who are you? - We're people who want to pull somethin' up. and it to be the most like it was when it went in.
- Yeah. - It doesn't matter what it tastes like. - It doesn't matter what it tastes like. - Okay. - It's about structural integrity. Now, I can't imagine a scenario... Yeah, I can. The Mile High City. It's the only place where you can get a Denver omelet. They got dams, they got rivers. - Yeah. There's other bodies of water besides the ocean. - I think the omelet is gonna hold up, and eggs has got integrity. - Uh... Okay. Oh man.
I really... There's no way I'ma take that. I'll go with the hand roll. - This is a big question mark for me because it might be... I mean, seaweed comes from what? The sea. - That's right. - So it feels like it might hold up very nice. Now, let's do this in tandem this time. - I wanna lower mine in like a-. - [Mikayla] Okay, can I give you a three, two, one? 'Cause you just dropped it in last time. and didn't let me do my job. - Yeah, that was an accident. - My fingers are burning. - [Mikayla] Okay. (crew laughing). (laughing) Three, two, one.
- Does an omelet float? Kind of. - Get outta the net. Get out. It keeps wantin' to swim in my net. - [Mikayla] It's fish. So it's doin' what fish do. - Yeah, it's at home. - It wants to get caught. - That's how it got caught in the first place. (laughing). You know what I'm sayin'? It wouldn't be here if it hadn't got caught. - Okay. - It'd be out there. Wow. - I'm tryin' not to agitate my waters. - I think this is going to be a close race.
because I do not see. either one of these degrading at all thus far. - Halfway there. - Gentleman's agreement. - It's really all about-. - If there's no structural change, then I think it has to become a taste test. because we have... (crew laughing). I mean. Okay, then it's a tie. Okay, I'm just tryin' to be charitable here. - [Mikayla] Okay, let's take 'em out.
- That's beautiful. I mean, that looks exactly the same. (water dripping) (plate clunking). (crew member laughing). - Ugh. And this right here, it's just a cleaner version of what went in. (crew member laughing). - Boy, you would not even know. there was anything different about either one of... Now, I think I can tell that your paper is wet, your seaweed is wet.
- Yeah. - But it's really holdin' up. I gotta say, they're both really holdin' up. - So this is a tie. - [Mikayla] "Rock, Paper, Scissors"? - I just don't wanna... I'll taste that one, if you taste this one. - Okay. - I'm not gonna like that, so there's no chance. But this thing, even though I don't want to eat it... - It's not the best.
- Good as new. This is not as good as new, but structurally, they're the same, so we're gonna call this a tie. - Unless we take into account the taste. (crew member laughing). - Then I win. Okay. - You win. (Rhett laughing). (crew laughing) (bell chiming). But I don't wanna taste that. - (sighting) Yeah. No, you don't, you don't. It's Voter Registration Day in the US. - And we have partnered with vote.org.
to provide you with a one-stop shop. to help you prepare to vote in this year's election. - So head over to votelikeabeast.com to register to vote. or confirm your registration status today. - And while you're there, you can also educate yourself about candidates and issues. so that you can be prepared to vote like a beast. (warm resonant guitar music). (water bubbling). - [Mikayla] Next, you'll be choosing between marshmallows, which that looks like somethin'. A little dookie-ish. Anyway, Goldfish. (Rhett laughing).
(Mikayla laughing). And then an Uncrustable. Link, you get to choose first. - Okay. - Hmm, hmm. - Well, I love Uncrustables. - It seems. like there's a clear, full choice here. - But I don't wanna choose that or Goldfish. if I can choose a Jet-Puffed marshmallow! - [Mikayla] White dookie. - I got to. - Yeah, it's gelatin, right? - I don't know. But I feel like it's either gonna be really impervious. or it's gonna disappear immediately. And I have a weighted bag. - Weighted netted bag. - Weighted netted bag.
- [Rhett] Let's get the terminology right. - Look at that. This, of course, is the weight. That is the marshmallow. Now-. - [Mikayla] What does the weight look like? - A little piece of turquoise dookie, is that what you mean? - [Mikayla] Turquoise dookie! - Look, no more... Let's not say the D-word anymore. - [Mikayla] Okay, I'll say doo-doo then. - You might think I would choose Goldfish. because they're fish and they're at home in the water. And why would I choose Uncrustables? It's bread. Well, let me tell you, I have a theory. I don't know anybody who works for Smuckers, (laughing) unfortunately, but this is not normal bread.
Because if your mama makes you a PB&J and puts it in a bag, by the time lunch rolls around, what has happened? Seep through. - You got a jellified, soaked bread. - This is engineered bread. that is made to sit next to two wet ingredients. for weeks on end inside this package. - [Link] Months. - Months. - (laughing) Maybe years. - Maybe years. (crew member laughing). - (laughing) Yeah. - So I'm takin' the Uncrustable, and I'm just hoping that this is going to-. - You think it's fake bread? - (laughing) Yeah, I think it's impervious bread. - It's infused with imperviability?
- Yeah, I think it's impervious bread. that's gonna resist the water. - Okay. Cannot be 'perved. - [Mikayla] Let's drop in three, two, one. - Oh, oh, oh. Push it, push it. - I'm pushin' it. - Push it. - I'm pushing it gently. - Don't let it migrate. - Well, air is coming out of it. It's going to sink and it is getting very soft to the touch. I can tell ya right now, it's getting very soft to the touch. Maybe it's real bread after all. (crew member laughing). - I think mine's doin' nothing.
I see some whiteness goin' around. - Oh yeah, you got white leakage, which was my nickname in high school. (Link laughing). (Rhett laughing). - But what's happenin' over there? Are your fingers startin' to go through it? - Softness. - Well, we got 15 seconds left, is that enough? - But I will say that it is holding up. I mean, it's very soft, but it's holding up. No, don't! No, no, no agitation! No agitation. You stay on that side of the curb.
- I did a little agitation. - [Mikayla] I wanna see what happens, so I think we're gonna give it another 30 seconds. (Rhett groaning). (crew member laughing). - It's not dookie! - Don't say the doo-doo word! - I know. - Okay. - [Mikayla] Poop. (crew laughing). - Okay. Yeah, there's other words for it. - I mean, the borders are intact. - It's well sealed. I think that taking this thing out. is going to be an adventure. (plate sliding). - Okay. You can put it right there. - Okay.
I think that's enough time. Let's take it out and see. - Okay. - Mine looks good. - Oh no, (laughing) oh no. - [Rhett And Crew Member] Oh. - Oh, I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't have done that, I should have used my hand. - [Crew Member] Oh! - No, that was nice, (laughing) that was nice! That was a nice plop! It was a nice plop. - Can ya get rid of the water? - No! Okay, okay, keep it, keep it. Keep it, keep it. (Link sighing).
Keep it. - [Mikayla] Okay, what are we thinkin'? - This thing's lookin' good. - Yeah, I gotta say, the seal is gone. It's hard to tell, but it has swelled up. And just with a-. - Ooh! This guy is slick though. - Slick Rick. - Slick, like a fish. But you can pick it up, can't ya? - Well, actually, I-. - Oh, ya can't pick it up? - Hold on. No, I'm not jokin' here, I'm... (crew member laughing). Oh. Nope. - Maybe use a third finger. - I can't... That's not how I pick marshmallows up!
I'm not a claw hand! Yeah, I can pick it up with that many. But no, I can't... - Oh! - Yeah, okay. - Okay. And then maybe pick that up with three fingers? - 'Cause that's how you would pick up a marshmallow, okay. And then if you just saw this and you were like, "I wanna have a Uncrustable," you would pick it up. - Oh. It's impressing me. - Hold on. (crew laughing). (Link sighing). - Okay, well, that didn't work too well.
But I stand by it being not regular bread. - Okay. Yeah, you can stand by it all you want, but you gotta eat it too. (bell chiming). - Well, let me start with yours. - It feels like a fish. - That's nice. And I'm just gonna spoon this. (spoon clinking). I feel like a duck. (laughing). (crew laughing). - Yeah, that's the type of bread ducks eat. - Yeah. Well, you know when you throw it to the ducks. and it misses the duck and lands in the water? - And then it gets real big? - They still go for it. - And then they still go for it.
(Rhett sighing). Yeah, Uncrustable did not meet your hypothesis. - It tastes okay, but I clearly lost that round. (warm resonant guitar music). (water bubbling). - [Mikayla] Finally, you'll be choosing the leftover foods. from the first three rounds. - Okay. - So this is the last round. Link has to get this right to tie. But you have your choice of Nutter Butter, Goldfish crackers, and lava cake dookie. - Rhett? - Well, I'm definitely not-. gonna go with the lava cake. - Rhett, you go first. - I mean, that's cake. (Link scoffing). It's down to the Nutter Butter or the Goldfish.
I don't know about the integrity of those peanuts. I know that Goldfish are fish-like, and I'm just gonna go with that logic. - You think they'll be able to swim better? - Yeah. I think they might embody a fish. I'm gonna go with a weighted netted bag of Goldfish. - Well, okay. There it is. Isn't that pretty? - Oh, I love it. I love it. - Look at that. A little surprise pouch. - And what you gonna go with? - Well, I've dipped my Nutter Butter in milk a lot.
- Okay. - Chocolate milk with a Nutter Butter dip. That's it, boy. And I don't know if I do 60 seconds, but if you do it too long, you come up and it's like acid. It's eatin' it. - An Oreo falls apart. It's a cookie like that. - Yeah. - So I think. that might be what's gonna happen to a Nutter Butter. - But it's still more constitution than this. - Gotta be. - I gotta go with the Nutter Butter. Oh, which is also...
Oh, oh, I dropped it! - Did it break? - Which is also completely intact. - Okay. - But ya know what? - [Crew Member] Those Goldfish. look like something you would get. at like a friend's wedding. Like they would put one of those. on every single plate at the wedding. - Right, yeah. - Yeah. Oh, and then you would throw it at 'em when they leave. - And a Polaroid. - [Mikayla] Right. - [Crew Member] Mm-hmm. - But we are going to... In the interest of discovery and what we didn't choose, we are going to put the lava cake in here. - Yes.
You might have to keep it held down. - Okay. - Ready? - [Mikayla] Alright, let's drop 'em in three, two, one. - Okay. - Hold the dookie down. (Rhett scoffing). - Why you gotta... Come on, stay down. - That's gonna be trouble over there. Yeah, that lava cake. - Stay. It's fightin' me, boy. That thing is just... It doesn't want to die. - I'm seeing very little activity with the Goldfish. I'm seeing very little activity with the Nutter Butter.
I think this is the kinda thing that when they come out, the level of integrity that they have. when you try to handle them. is going to be the big question mark. - Mm-hmm. - I think your Nutter Butter is gonna disintegrate. - I think your Goldfish are turning white. - I think that's just you lookin' through water. (crew member laughing). - Ya think so? - Yeah. You know, it's different colors underwater. - [Mikayla] How do y'all feel about another 30 seconds?
- I don't feel great about it. - I think we should go. - But I'll do it. - I think we should go. Oh, yeah. - What's happenin' here? - [Mikayla] 30 seconds is back on the clock. (Rhett and Link tapping tanks increasingly). - Hey, hey, (speaking gibberish)! (crew laughing). - [Mikayla] Do y'all see those bubbles. like floatin' out from the Goldfish? - They're breathing. - They're breathing. - Yup. Yeah. - [Mikayla] Alright, that's time. Let's pull 'em out. - Okay, okay. - Okay. Oh, I'm still together.
- Yup. Mine's still holdin' up. Okay. Hold on to my weight. (Goldfish clinking). Oh, do ya hear that? Oh! (weight clunking). - What? (crew member laughing). - The Goldfish are hitting and making hard sounds. They're all still very hard! - What? - My fish are so hard! (laughing) Oh my gosh. - [Mikayla] Oh no. (crew laughing). - Somebody's Nutter Butter has suffered. - [Mikayla] It's dookie-fied. - Oh, somebody's Nutter Butter has suffered.
Look at this! - I mean, it looks like it did better than the... - Look how crispy these are. - Oh my gosh. I think this did better. - Oh, it sure did. (Rhett gasping). - Look at that. - What do they make lava cakes out of these days? - Lava hardens when it gets-. - [Rhett And Link] Wet. - 'Cause it cools. - Like Hawaii, in the ocean. - Yes. The water cools it and it gets hard. - I've seen it on the internet. - Look at how hardened. Not really, but oh, that lava in them. - It looks pretty nice in there.
I kinda want to lick it in there. But I don't have to because I did not lose! You, my friend, lost. (bell chiming). You have to eat that. You have to eat one of these Goldfish, which I'ma to tell you right now, that's crispy Goldfish. You might wanna put it in your mouth right now. and follow up. - That still tastes good. - Oh, you like it? - But it's repulsive. (crew laughing). - Get yourself a nice crispy. - [Mikayla] So yeah, Link, you gotta drink a sip of water from all four of the tanks. that we have used throughout the episode. - Oh, and we need to...
Yeah. - It's half crispy. - Half crispy. - If we'd have waited another 30 seconds-. - We gotta get water from everywhere. Oh. (laughing). (crew laughing). - That's enough. - Okay, and then... Okay, and then we need some water from this one. - What? - Yeah, yeah. And then we gotta have some water from mine. Yeah. So you have water from all. - I need a damn LifeStraw. (Rhett and crew laughing). - It's not poison. You think you're gonna get giardia?
How is it? - Refreshing! (Rhett and crew laughing). - Alright, now ya know what food you need to eat around the water. - Let me get some of this lava though. - Nice. - It's still nice, yeah. - Huh. Thanks for bein' your mythical best. - You know what time it is. - I'm Christian. - I'm Sarah. - [Christian And Sarah] And we. just went great white cage diving in New Zealand. (water sloshing). And it's time to spin the wheel of Mythicality. - Dang. (wheel clicking). - They survived. - And those fish are fine bein' wet.
- (laughing) Yeah, Rhett, that's right. (crew member laughing). - Hey, listen, y'all come back tomorrow. Got a very special episode. "What's the best food to practice kissing on?". (crew laughing). - Join us at "Good Mythical More,". as we investigate buy-it-for-life products. - [Rhett] Visit votelikeabeast.com. to make sure you're prepared and informed. to cast your vote in this year's elections.
