We Try EVERY Food We've Hated
- We're eating the worst things. we've ever tried in a "Gut Check.". - Let's talk about that. (upbeat whimsical music) (singers vocalizing). - Good Mythical Morning. - And happy day before Halloween. We saw "The Odyssey,". and we were so inspired by Matt Damon. that we decided we needed to dress as his iconic character. - Which is why I am dressed as Odysseus, but I do not understand who you are dressed as. - I'm Spirit from the 2002 movie,
"Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron," voiced by Matt Damon. - Of course you are. - And as a spooky treat, we're gonna try a qualitative list of the "Gut Check" foods. that received very low scores. and generally icked us out the most over the years. - Of course we are. - It's time for "Gut Check: Scary Bad Edition.". - [Meghan] Today, you'll be tasting a subjective. and spooky collection of 23. of the worst items from previous "Gut Check" episodes.
As a palate cleanser, you'll have water from the worst sink at Mythical. You're welcome. - [Rhett] Hold on, what sink is that? - [Link] Yeah, which one is that? - [Meghan] You know which sink that is. - [Link] The worst sink. Thank you for giving me a scoring aid here. We got pumpkins that the more rotten they get, the lower my score. So I understand that. I really look like I'm a talking horse, don't I? - Yeah. - [Link] Hello. I'm a talking horse. - Now I get it. Now I get it.
- I'm Matt Damon. I'm Matt Damon. I'm Matt Damon. - [Meghan] Nailed it. Since these span so many different categories, we are going in alphabetical order. Let's start with the A through H category, starting with blue spirulina. - Was this when we had... - [Link] Ah! - Blue foods? - [Link] Ah! - [Meghan] Yes, sir. - Ah! It's horrible. So bad. Ah! - Well, this is gonna be tough. (crew laughing). Ah! Mm, mm.
Okay, we can't give everything a zero. - I'm gonna give it a 14. - Are we trying to find the worst thing? Is this a reverse "Gut Check"? - [Link] Ugh! - [Meghan] Mm-hmm. - Okay. I'm gonna give it a 12. - [Meghan] Okay. Next we have century egg. - Oh, no. (crew laughing). I don't remember green lighting this idea. (crew laughing).
- [Rhett] Mm. (Link gagging). Man, this might be worse. (Link coughing). 11. - 13. - [Meghan] GT's Kombucha Island Bliss. - Oh gosh, I'm glad to be drinking kombucha. - Kombucha. Well, it's not great, but it's way better than anything. we've already had. - Ugh! Ooh, that is bad island stuff.
- 28. - I'm gonna go all the way to 40. - [Meghan] Next is GT's Kombucha Marine-Greens, formerly known as multi greens. (Link scoffs). - Oh, gosh. That's horrible. Why y'all do that, GT? - It has a metallic taste to it. - And like it's kelpy and algae-ish. Definitely tastes healthy. - 25.
- 31. - [Meghan] Your faces and scores do not match. - I know. I'm trying to create some sort of ability. to, like, differentiate. - [Meghan] Gotcha, gotcha. Okay, well, how about Hi-Chew mango. reduced sugar? - This can't be bad. This can't be bad. Oh, that's great right now. - Compared to everything? - Yeah, comparatively. - But it's very coconuty. - I mean, it's not good.
But it's just a candy. - 55. (Link spits). - I'm gonna go all the way to 64. - [Meghan] Okay. Hi-Chew strawberry reduced sugar. - Hold on. Give me a second. - With sugar? - [Meghan] Reduced. - [Rhett] Okay, ready. Oh, it's hard. It's hard. It's hard. - The consistency of a Hi-Chew is pretty nice, though. - But... Was yours so hard? - Pretty hard.
- It, like, needs the sugar. - I know, but compared to everything else I've had today, I'm gonna put this at-. - 34. - 55. - Oh, you like? - [Meghan] Human flesh. - What now? When... - [Meghan] Human flesh. - I don't remember why-. - [Meghan] It's from Bible foods. - I don't know. Oh, gosh. I don't know what y'all did, but it tastes like... (Link gagging). It tastes like stink bait.
- Ugh! When did we do that before? - Bible foods, man. - [Link] Mm. - We blocked it out, though. (crew laughing). But it's not really human. - Oh, man. I'm gonna need some Halloween can I have of this. that totally erases from my memory. - Why is it so bitter? (Link scoffs). - It came from a very- - Why is nobody. answering questions? - [Meghan] It came from a bitter person. - I'm gonna give that a two. - I'm gonna give it a one. - [Meghan] Okay. And last in this category, hyssop.
- You said soap? - [Meghan] Hyssop? - Oh. - [Meghan] Doing my best. - Tastes like the bottom of a hamster cage. Like real far at the bottom. You know when you clean out the cage, if the hamster dies. and then you clean out the cage to, like, another level, this is at the very bottom level. - Meaning this is like a decomposed, dehydrated hamster? - I'm gonna give it a... Potentially, yeah. - I'm gonna give that a six. - 11. God! - [Meghan] Next, we're moving. on to the J through N category,
starting with Joy OREO flavored waffle cones. - This can't be bad. - What a welcome change of pace. (crew laughing). - Listen, there was a day that was so good-. - That this was bad. - That we thought. this was bad. - I know, man. Now look at us. - Now this day's so bad that this is great. I'm gonna give this 100. - No, you can't do that.
- Okay. I'm not gonna give it 100, okay. A horse has called me off. - I think I might be in like a... I'm in a 61. - I'll do 69. - Well. - [Meghan] Nice. - Well, well, well. Well, well, well. - [Meghan] Kalamata olives? - Ooh, oh. Oh. Oh! Oh! Kalama-. Kalamata. - Why? Why do that? - Kalamata ding dong.
- [Meghan] Last time, Rhett gave this 100, and Link gave it zero. - Yeah, and I'm gonna give this 100 as well again. I love it. - 100? - It's so good. There's not a better taste. - It's so bad. So salty and funky. But compare it-. - Even in comparison, it's not good? - On this scale, though, I guess I'm gonna have to take it to a 36. - Oh! Yeah, my boy gave an olive a 36. - [Meghan] Next is lavender. - Oh, no.
(crew laughing). - It's like I'm eating a bed pillow. - [Meghan] Eating it very horse-like, you're in character. - That's not great. It's not completely awful. It's an 18. - Yeah. I mean, I think it's better than that. I'm gonna go all the way to 28. - [Meghan] Lay's Poppables Sea Salt. - A what? - [Link] So we hated these, huh? - [Meghan] Total of 17.
- What? This is just a potato chip. - This is amazing. - [Meghan] It was during the Lay's episode, so it was probably a really good lineup. - You know what this really teaches you. It's all about perspective. That's the lesson today here. - Well, it's all relative. I think that's what we're learning. - Well, your perspective is relative. - Yeah, your perspective is relative. to your situation at the moment, and you need to have a broader view of things. - This is why people go out, and they, like, make themselves have a bad day.
so they could just put things... Don't always try to have a great day. Sometimes have a bad day and be like, "Oh, today's a bad day. I'm gonna really have a bad day.". - You're talking about hiking. - A hiking day. Today I'm going to have a hiking day. It's gonna be a horrible day. We're gonna hike. - Yep, and then tomorrow I'm not, and I'm gonna be like, "Wow, why was today better?". - Because I didn't hike. - I didn't hike. - I'm gonna say 77. - I'm gonna say 59. - [Meghan] Lay's Poppables White Cheddar. - Oh, white cheddar. - We hate it on these, huh?
- [Meghan] Same score. as the last one. - Oh, this is delightful. - Wonderful. - The white cheddar, it really pops. - Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. - And it's crispy? 81. - 76. - [Meghan] Next is the McNugget. - We didn't like the McNugget. - No. Hold on. - I know I like the McNugget. - Hold on. What's wrong with us? - [Meghan] This has been the April Fool's Day episode, so this is the last nugget you ate in that episode.
- Well, you've kept it all this time. That's what it tastes like. Cold and hard. - Yeah, it's cold and hard. I'll give it a 54 because of that. - I'm gonna give it a 54 because of that, too. - Yeah. - [Meghan] Monster Energy Zero Sugar. - Mm-hmm. (Link slurping). Boy, all kinds of bad. The fake sweetness is so strong with this one. It's actually still coming through. - Yeah. 49. - I'm gonna go with 37.
- [Meghan] Neopets Omelettes Little Fishy. - Oh, no. No! (crew member laughing). - [Meghan] Those are baked omelets with anchovies. and fish sauce from our Neopets. (Link gagging). (crew laughing). - [Rhett] Oh, my gosh. - It's not that it's the worst, it's just the duplicitous accumulative nature. of what's happening today is just... - I'm gonna have to drink some sink water. That was so strong.
- I remember how bad of a day that was. - [Meghan] This is just like "The Odyssey.". - I feel like I'm gonna cry. - Maybe we'll get home to our wives one day. - [Meghan] Did you give it a score? - Oh, yeah, that's part of this. Two. - Three. - [Meghan] Neopets Omelettes Rotten. This is an omelet with Bitrex. (Link gagging).
(Link coughs). I was waiting till you put it in your mouth. to say what it was. - And this got a... It's got that fruit in it. - We didn't have to go back. We didn't have to go back to Neopets. You know what? What we need to do now is what we said that we're learning. We need to apply that. - We need to be like, "This is great.". - It could get a lot worse than this. - Yeah, yeah, yeah. - Yeah. - I'm really thankful. for this. - In the scheme of things, it's pretty... I mean, we're still sitting here just being fed stuff.
- I mean, this teaches us character. - You know? - I'm gonna give that one a four. - I'm gonna give that one a four. - [Meghan] Before we move on, could you please remove the human flesh from the desk? - Oh, that's just Hi-Chew. - That's Hi-Chew. - [Meghan] Oh. - Yeah, let's get it. - [Meghan] The human Hi-Chew from the desk. Thank you. - Okay. - [Meghan] Finally, we have the P through W category, starting with purple sea moss. - Purple sea moss. That can't be bad.
Pretty bad. - [Meghan] It's got a total of one last time. - It's like baby food. for, like, if you were a baby walrus or something. - Man, that is not pleasant. (Link grunts). That is really, really bad. - It's very fishy. - But I've had things that are worse. - Goddamnit! - I'm gonna give it an eight. - Seven. - [Meghan] Next is radicchio. - Is it, though? - Is this radicchio?
It's just salad. - A purple salad plant. - 48. - 44. - [Meghan] Redbor kale? - It's just kale. - I'm loving this now. - I feel like a little rabbit right off right now. I feel like I'm tasting the complexities of kale. in a way that I've never had before. - [Both] Like I'm appreciating it. - Yes. - Yeah. - Oh, from the Earth. - Which brings me to 50.
- Oh, okay. Well, I'm gonna give it a 64. - [Meghan] Snyder's Unsalted Mini Pretzels. - Okay. Hold on. - Unsalted. - [Meghan] It's the happiest I've ever seen you. - I've never been so happy to eat a crappy pretzel. - Man. Man! - Nothing redeemable in a normal pretzel world. - You're telling me a person just made that? - And then other persons buy it and eat it. - Wow. - I guess if you can't have sodium.
- 75. - 39. - Okay. - [Meghan] Squid ink. - 75? - Yeah, it's just a pretzel. - [Rhett] What is it? Squid ink? - [Meghan] Squid ink. (Link whimpering). (Link gagging). - Ah! - That's not made for what we just did.
That's not the purpose of it. - So bad. - It's not the purpose of it. - You're supposed to color pasta with that. - Yeah, you're not supposed to just feed it to people. You're not supposed to feed it to a couple of men. like they're little babies. (crew laughing). That's not what you're supposed to do with this. - [Meghan] I feel like that stains pretty bad. You might want to drink some water. - I washed my mouth out. Look what it did to my mug. (crew laughing). This mug's ruined. (Link blubbering).
- [Meghan] Do you like to rate it? - Everything is so seafoody. - Two. - 18. - Whoa! - It colors pasta. - You like it. You like it. - [Meghan] And finally, we have Wendy's plain baked potato. - Yes, thank you, Lord. - Give me the whole thing. (crew laughing). - I mean, I can't tell y'all how cold this is. - Just a hunk of fast food tater. - Man. - [Link] Hmm?
- I'm having so many teachable moments. (crew laughing). I mean, I'm so happy about potato right now. - I've never learned so much at Halloween. - There's nothing on it, and it's cold. Well, don't spit it out. - I'm spitting it out because it gathered. all of the nasty that was lingering. in my mouth. - Oh, it cleaned my mouth. - Yeah. Look at that. When you said finally, that meant we were done? - [Meghan] Mm-hmm. - Oh, God! Thank you, Meghan. - 52. 52. 52. - [Meghan] Link, you have to score.
- Oh, wow. 77. - He loves that potato. - [Meghan] Congratulations. You've now re-tasted the worst items in Gut Check history. Let's see your bottom four. - Oh, no. (Link laughs maniacally). Spooky season is upon us. Don't forget to shop our Halloween collection. It's very spooky, but also fashionable. - And check out the Mythical Society Halloween bundle. to get an exclusive Halloween tee, our Mythical Clue Game collectible, and a three-month all-access membership,
which would unlock all past GME live recordings. and exclusive discount. to a very Mythical holiday special and more. - Mythical.com. (upbeat music). - In no particular order, these are the bottom four, the worst four. We've got the Rotten Omelette. We've got the Little Fishy Omelette. We've got the human flesh, and we've got sea moss. - Yeah. Sea moss right here. They put two spoons in it. so we could eat more of it.
- I feel like we should just go by memory. I mean, we just had them just a moment ago, you know? - Sea moss is a type of seaweed. that contains 92 of 102 essential minerals. for the human body. This makes it one of the most powerful superfoods on Earth. And it's ironic because it's inedible. - Well, you know what? - Certainly the best thing up here. - Again, like we were saying with perspective. Now that I know that it's that good for me, let me just... - You want to take a little bit?
The way that it's purple, but it's... It's so ocean. - It's not as ocean as that. - No. Uh-uh. This is the best out of everything. - Do people just eat it like this? - I would hope that you would put it in different things. - I think that's off the table. - Yeah, that's off the table. - [Meghan] I think you're supposed to put it in smoothies. - Oh. - Oh. - Oh. That's a good idea. You think I wouldn't taste it? - I don't know. Yeah. - I already make a smoothie. that's just a functional smoothie.
Like I do not enjoy my smoothie at all. I just go... (Rhett grunts). And just take it down. - Well, yeah. Take that home. - [Meghan] How do you do it? - Sea moss, eat moss. (Rhett grunts). - Put that on your side. - Just like Odysseus. - So out of memory, from these two-. - [Rhett] This one's way worse. - [Meghan] Well, I'm gonna have to have you try. the rotten one again because I told you it was Bitrex, but actually it's durian. - It's durian. Yeah. It's not that bad. - Yeah, it's not as bad. - You said it was Bitrex. and then it made Link begin to gag, but it's durian.
- [Meghan] I lied. - It's durian. (Link grunts). (crew member laughing). - Now that I'm calm, now that... What is that? When you say so-and-so, so-and-so prevails when you're-. - Cooler heads prevail. - Now that cooler heads prevail. - Yeah, the durian's not that bad. - The durian's not that bad. - I mean, it's like a really bad fruit in an egg, so that's just stupid. for starters. - So we're gonna say. that this is the third best.
Third worst. Third worst. - Yeah. - [Rhett] Third worst. Okay. - Human flesh. Of course, we don't actually have human flesh here-. - [Rhett] Or do we? - But we've done. the work to know what human flesh tastes like, which is in and of itself disturbing. - And when we say do the work, meaning that people who have eaten human flesh. have given reports, and they say that it's bitter, and so there's Bitrex on this, and they say that it is... Pig is a lot like... Pork is a lot like human, so it's pork.
And what else is on that? - [Crew Member] Malic acid. - Malic acid. So there's a little some sourness. So it's sour, it's bitter, and it's pork. And just the thought of it is bad. - It's bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad boy. - I mean, this is just fish. - Yeah. Yeah. - [Rhett] This is just fish. - [Link] Yeah. So put that at number two. - [Meghan] You got to try it. Come on. - Didn't you see us try it before? - [Meghan] No, I was closing my eyes. - I ate a whole lot of it. I mean, it was just... - I just can't do it again. - Yeah. Who says we have to try it?
- [Meghan] Me. I am the boss now. - You know what, Meghan? I agree. I do think Rhett should try it. - Okay. All right. Here we go. Here we go. - [Meghan] Okay, one of you tries the omelet, and the other tries the human flesh, and I will be satisfied. - [Rhett] I tried it, and it is the worst, the second worst. Okay. - Can't do it. I just can't do it. I mean, the fact that I literally can't do it. is proof positive that it needs to have this scary mask.
- It is officially Friday the Worstenth. Human flesh. - Oh. (party poppers popping). (crew laughing). - Oh. They don't always work. - I don't know where the explosion is, but I do know that I met Damon under here. - Okay, hold on. They're about to bring another one in.
I mean, they're not gonna let this moment die. - [Meghan] We're calling in reinforcement. - They've got extras. So I'm just gonna stay like this. - [Meghan] You have to wait. as long as they waited in the horse. (crew laughing). (party poppers popping). - Why? - [Link] Thanks for being your Mythical best. - You know what time it is. - Hi, my name is Nick. - And my name is Andrea, and we're from Nashua, New Hampshire.
- It's Halloween, and I'm Giant Deborah. - And I'm a Cosmic Brownie. - [Both] And it's time to spin the wheel of Mythicality. - Oh, yeah. - Giant Deborah and a Cosmic Brownie. They did what you do. They did the costume as a couple. - The couple's costume. - Yeah. - Hey, hey, hey, come closer. Come closer. Did you know that we only named this show. "Good Mythical Morning". because the name Frasier was already taken? (crew laughing).
- I didn't. Join us at "Good Mythical More". to see if we can match the crew to their stupidest fear. Last call to shop the Halloween collection. and Mythical Society Halloween bundle now at mythical.com.
