We Attempt To Follow Directions (Taskmaster Challenge)
- Can we complete the world's hardest game? - Let's talk about that. (light music). (air whooshing) Good Mythical Summer. - The sun is shining. The birds are singing. - Shh! Don't talk about the birds or... (thunder crashes) - Well, too late. Belvedere, are you here to challenge us. with another one of your impossible missions. inspired by the terrific British game show "Taskmaster?".
(thunder crashes). - See what happens when you mention birds? - It's time for Belvedere Says. (air whooshing) - Hey, guys. - Hi. - Hey. - So you two did this too? - Yes. - Yeah. - So, and happy about it. (Rhett and Emily laughing). Is that believable? I hesitated. - I've been thinking about this every day since I did it. - I know. It was fun. - Every moment. - I have wiped it from my memory.
because I don't think it wasn't... None of these are a pleasant memory for me. - Really? (Link knocking). - Yeah. - Why? - This was so fun. - It's fun. It's like-. - Yeah. - PE all over again. - It was like PE. - Exactly. - You know? You get to play with balls. - Honestly, will y'all let me do it again? Can I go out there and try it again? - No, it takes too long to set up. - Yeah, next time, can we have the big parachute? It'd be great. - [Crew] All right. Well, not only is Belvedere's favor. on the line here today, but our summer charity competition. between Rhett and Link is also in play. - Oh. - [Crew] The better man. between the two of you will add $4,000 to their charity. - Wow. - Okay. Okay.
- [Crew] Now let's get going. and let's find out what Belvedere's demand was. - Mm-hm. (gentle music). All right. Oh, we got some of this. We got some of these. - Okay, we got a basketball, a little gold box. A lot of balls. Okay. - Okay, I'm in a little bit of a hurry. 'cause I gotta get to an eye doctor appointment. (everyone laughing).
- All right. Hello, Belvedere. Ooh, this is squishy. All righty. - Hello, Almighty Belvedere. - Knock over exactly 100 blocks. The red blocks count as 10 blocks. You must stay on the spot at all times. and you may not move the spot. - Is that this spot? Okay. - You must throw at least five balls. Before each throw, you must eat more pretzels. than you did before your previous throw.
You're fools! (crew laughing). You're fools! - When do I eat the pretzels, though? You must eat more pretzels. What if I eat zero pretzels. and then I don't ever have to eat pretzels? - Good question. - I'm not eating those pretzels. - What? - Closest to 100 blocks. knocked over wins. Your time starts now. - Your time starts now. - Your time starts now. Ah! - So Emily, you were already doing some thinking. - Yeah. - Damn. - Yeah. - Good for you. - Uh-huh. - No problem. I love watching "Taskmaster" too. So it was like, I kind of did some homework.
before this episode. - I also just now realized it said 100 blocks. Even though I read it and was there, I wasn't thinking about that. - [Crew] All right, we're gonna have a chance to see-. - You're just thinking, "Throw it at the box.". - [Crew] What all of you were and weren't thinking about. And a lot of you weren't thinking about a lot of things. (everyone laughing). So let's get to our first competitor. He's a so-called nice guy, but he once referred to me. as David Blaine with no sense of humor. (Rhett laughing). Is that nice? I don't know. It's Rhett. - All right.
- Closest to 100 blocks knocked over wins. Your time starts now. Time is irrelevant in this challenge, my friends. Well, maybe it isn't, unless if you get to the exact number. Okay. You know, there's one way to do this. (gentle music). - Oh, dang. A plank. - Okay. Well, I got the basketball, you freaks. Nobody else is gonna be able to do that. Okay.
100 blocks. Two, four, six, eight. and seven is 15. And then you've got 35 plus 10, 45. So one of those is 45 blocks. And what'd you say about eating these pretzels? Before you throw, you must eat more pretzels. than you did before the previous throw. So I'll eat one. (pretzel crunching). (blocks rattling). - Dang! - Damn.
(gentle music). - Okay. Why is there a R on that? And an N? It's gonna spell something? Does it spell something? (Emily gasps) (crew laughing). - What the heck? (blocks rattling). - Okay. Knocked another red one down. So I said I was... (gentle music). Math. This is gonna be interesting. (gentle music).
(Rhett spitting). (crew laughing). You jerks! (gentle music). Nothing? Oh, man. I'm running out of... Whose car is that? - [Matt] Mine. (crew laughing). - All right. Well, you parked there. Ah, I hit the red one, which I wanted to... Dang it!
(gentle music). Three. (gentle music). - Oh my God! - That's not a ball. - It's there. - Okay. - But it's not a ball. - I think at this point, I just gotta knock down. as many as I can. Oh, oh, this is heavy. (gentle music). Now I don't have any water. (everyone laughing). (blocks rattling).
Huh, I have no idea how many I've knocked down. I mean, I could do the math, but it's hard. This was 70. No. No, let me do it like this. One, two, three, four, five, six, 20, 21, 22, 30, 31. I don't know why there's letters. I don't know. We'll figure that out. 15. All that got you to 35, but then one of them was... 4 or 45. Let's just say there are 45. I need a calculator. 'Cause eight plus seven is 15. Plus six. Two and one. Yes, that's 35.
But one of those is 10. 40 times 4 would be 160. Then four times four is 16, so that's 176. So 176 was the total number of blocks at the beginning. (buzzer buzzes) 45 blocks. Minus five, four. (Rhett and Emily laughing). 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 41, 42, 43, 44, 54, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65. So I have now knocked over 110, so I should have stopped a second ago.
(gentle music). And I'm gonna stop now. and I'm gonna eat five of these. (gentle music). And I don't know. I probably missed something obvious. Laugh at me. (crew laughing). (gentle music). Hmm. - There was a secret challenge. of, like, making a sentence or words or something? - [Leonard] I don't think so. - That would've been impossible. - It would've. - [Crew] Maybe we'll.
come back to that. - Okay. - Okay, we'll come back to it. - [Crew] But so Rhett, you thought you knocked over 110 blocks. You actually knocked over 115. - Yeah. - Not bad, right? - That's really good. - I don't know how I got to that 176. Like, watching it back, I'm just like, "Man, I still don't understand.". - I feel like it was way more than that, too. It seemed like way more. - Well, I don't know. I mean, I feel like based on the way. that I was able to reach the basketball. in a way that I didn't think any of y'all. would be able to do-. - Correct. - It feels like,
I don't know, my guess is that you didn't get over 100. - You're close. - Who's next? - [Crew] All right, well, our next contestant makes jewelry, has won the last two editions of Belvedere Says, and once showed us all her bare derriere. What can't she do? - I had a thong on. - [Crew] It's Emily. - Closest to 100 blocks knocked over wins. Your time starts now. Ah! Okay, what am I throwing at it? Oh, they're... Oh. (laughs). I peed a little. Oh no. (everyone laughing). The red blocks are 10. Let's get the red blocks going.
Oh, and I can't... There's something is going on. I have to be able to get to there. Okay. What's under here? - Oh, goodness. - What's that? Wait a minute. - Are you serious? - Oh, there's gonna be, like, some kind of tool. - Oh my goodness! (Emily laughing). - You stuck it there with gum, you dirty little dirt people. Okay. So maybe. (crew laughing). What? Is that Matt?
(crew laughing). Is that Carney? So there's this. Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and throw the big guy. Wait, I can't move the spot, but I can move. No, I can't leave the spot. (crew laughing). (blocks rattling) (crew laughing). (gentle music) (ball bouncing). (Rhett and Leonard laughing). - [Crew] The biggest one. - Okay, here we go. I've never thrown a football good. (ball thuds) (everyone laughing). (Emily groaning). No. Okay, what is a ball, you know?
Anything could be a ball. The egg could be a ball. (gentle music). (Rhett laughing) - [Crew] All right, we're gonna pause right here real quick. because I'm gonna point a few things out. - Okay. - [Crew] Emily, you were fixated. on only throwing balls. - I thought it said that. - [Crew] Yeah, you did think that. It didn't say that. (everyone laughing). You could've thrown anything you wanted, so you really sort of, you know, put yourself at a disadvantage. - I could've thrown the man laughing in the background. - Right. Uh-huh. - And you found a pool cleaner under the...
- And then... - You'll find out. why that was frustrating later. - Okay. - Okay. - Yeah, what did you do with that? - She didn't throw it 'cause it's not a ball. - I could've thrown it. - [Crew] Yeah, but also. the pretzel logic here. So the... - Yeah! (claps). - [Crew] You know, you must eat. more pretzels than you did before your previous throw. (indistinct). - [Crew] Zero is not more than zero. - No. - No, it's not. - [Crew] So let's start with zero. The next throw should be one, so-. - Yeah. - We are in shaky ground here. - Yeah. - Oh! - [Crew] Benefit of the doubt. Let's see how the rest of the attempts went. - Yeah. - Ooh. - Zero plus zero is zero. (crew laughing).
- Which isn't more than zero. - Yeah. More than zero. But it could've been a nibble. It could've been a little. - Oh! - Yeah. Eating a half of one. - Nibble! The nibble was the answer! - Could've eaten a half. of one. - Yeah. Yeah. - Wow! - My goodness. - I think people in the comments. are gonna have something to say. (Rhett and Leonard laughing). All right. (gentle music). (Rhett laughing) - Hey! - Whose car is that? (everyone laughing). This one's really soft. So I can't leave this. Oh, I could have one leg on the spot, though, right? So if I leave the spot fully,
that means I've left the spot, but I could put, like, a leg off the spot. and I'm still on it. (blocks rattling). Okay. All right, I'm gonna do this one next, but I'm gonna get closer. (gentle music). You like that? (gentle music). (Rhett laughing) Just one in the middle? - One block! - What'd you guys. do to these blocks? I gotta blow this one up, don't I? (gentle music). Okay.
(gentle music). (air blowing). - Yeah, this is worth it. (everyone laughing). (gentle music) (air blowing). - Is there something under the table? Like on the bottom? Oh! (Emily laughing). (gentle music). It's a stick! I still think I'm doing better than Link. - Wow. - If this pinches... Ah! Okay, good.
- What? - Wow. - Oh. - Okay. - Oh, this is precision. - Here we go. (gentle music). The biggest problem is me having good aim. That is the problem. Okay. (blocks rattling). No! (crew laughing). Okay. Got a bunch of little balls here. Okay. Are these donut holes? That ain't gonna work. Nope. (crew laughing). Nope.
Ah. Come on. Dang! Ooh. Hang on. Uh-oh. (gentle music). Okay, we're gonna try this football thing again. (ball thuds). Are you kidding? I hit it so hard! (gentle music). (blocks rattling). How do I know what I'm done with the game? When I knock them all over?
Do I have to knock them all over? (crew laughing). Why doesn't anyone answer me when I talk? (Rhett laughing). (gentle music). (ball thuds) No. (crew laughing). No, no, no, come back. Come back. There's a box here. (gentle music). Okay. Is it gonna say you're done? If it says you're done... (Emily yells). (everyone laughing).
Is there something in it? (gentle music). No. - Oh! Oh! (everyone laughing) (buzzer buzzes). You're gone. (crew laughing). - Oh no. (gentle music). (Emily and crew laughing). I'm gonna call it. I think I got 100. And thanks for the free water. Oh!
(gentle music). (crew laughing). - Wow. - Wow! - Disqualified. - The pool thing. The pool thing. - But the balloon! It doesn't matter! It doesn't matter. - You had so many good ideas almost. - Yeah, you have been watching "Taskmaster.". Haven't you? Yes. - Yeah. - I love how you kept throwing the donuts. like it was gonna do... Maybe the fourth time, I'll hit one. - Well, there wasn't much left. - Nothing that you threw could knock over balls. Even when you hit them. - But couldn't that-. - I know. - Pool thing be extended. all the way to the blocks? - It couldn't.
- And then poke the blocks down. - I could not- - One by one. - I couldn't reach. - [Crew] It could have been extended a little bit more. - Dang it! - [Crew] And I did test that. There was also a chance for everybody to get that pool net. because we put a little map for you all. to look at on the wall there. If you take a look, right there was a little diagram. pointing you to it. - [Link] What? - [Crew] You know. So yeah, Emily, you were disqualified. due to leaving a mat (buzzer buzzes). and possibly not for eating any pretzels and... - Yes. - [Crew] Not that it matters. You did have 91 blocks remaining on the wall, which means you knocked over 89 blocks.
Again, it doesn't matter. - Ooh. - [Crew] You were just... - Doesn't matter. Doesn't matter. - That was great, though. - She disqualified twice. - [Crew] Yeah, which I... - People in the comments are gonna have something. to say about the pretzels. - Plus the third time. for not keeping both feet on the red dot. - More of zero is zero. - Staying on the dot. - Okay. - Staying on the dot. - [Crew] Let's go to our next contestant. - Can it be me? - [Crew] Well. Well, his website says he's been. in over a dozen commercials, including one for Puto TV, which is most likely a typo for Pluto TV. (Rhett laughing) It's Leonard. - Your time starts now. (paper rustling).
(gentle music). Okay. (gentle music). Okay. Oh! Oh, goodness. (crew laughing). Okay. (pretzel crunching). (ball thuds) (everyone laughing). - Off balance. - Okay. Oh damn, this the hard part, huh?
Oh my goodness. (gentle music). (crew laughing). (blocks rattling). (Leonard grunting). I gotta eat more pretzels. (crew laughing). (Leonard coughing). (crew laughing). (blocks rattling). (crew laughing). (Leonard yells). (gentle music). (crew laughing).
(gentle music). (Leonard grunts). So all these blocks is 100 blocks? Damn, I gotta eat a lot of pretzels. (Rhett laughing). I think I just assumed it. (blocks rattling). - The way you're doing is incredible. - I mean, this is great technique. (gentle music). - Let's go. (ball thuds). No! - Oh no. (everyone laughing). - How did it come back? - Damn it! And I lost the basketball!
Okay. I don't even like pretzels. (gentle music). Mm-hm. (blocks rattling). (crew laughing). Okay. (gentle music). (everyone laughing). Son of a bin. (grunts). (blocks rattling). (Leonard grunts) (crew laughing).
(everyone laughing) (Emily clapping). - Okay, sunglasses. - You're getting it! (everyone laughing). - I thought we were friends, Belvedere. (Leonard sighs). (ball thuds). (crew laughing). Oh no! (crew laughing) (dramatic music). I still have to eat pretzels. (crew laughing) (dramatic music). These pretzels about to break my spirit. (dramatic music). I might be done.
How many I eat? 10, 11? If I would've just paid attention to the basketball... I'm done. (crew laughing). Oh. (crew clapping). Oh my goodness. (crew clapping). Whoo! Oh man. - You had the best technique, though. - Yeah. - The chest pass. back to you. - Yeah, that was brilliant. - Was brilliant, but there was no counting involved. - No counting at all. - And you were like... - Oh, I was counting how many pretzels I was eating. (everyone laughing). I ate like 50 pretzels. - Yeah, your pretzel game was very strong.
- I ate a pretzel before I threw my first one. What am I doing? - I love how you were like, "These pretzels are gonna break my spirit,". when it was clear that it was broken. like five minutes earlier. - Yeah, it was broken really early. - Okay, well, listen, if you wanna see. the behind the scenes to this episode, the Behind the Mythicality, well, that's exclusively over on The Mythical Society. So check it out. Mythicalsociety.com. You see how the crew put that whole challenge together. - Oh my gosh. - How many did I knock over? - [Crew] Right, I did wanna say you knocked over 150. So, great. - Great! Good job.
- [Crew] You assumed 100... - Were up there. - [Crew] We asked for 100 blocks and that was all of them. That was an assumption made. - Yep. Yep. - [Crew] But you're still in second place. - Okay. - [Crew] So let's move on to our final competitor. - What did Link do? - [Crew] Don't blink. This twink has been known to dink and sink. (Rhett laughing). And he's horny for the stink. It's Link. - Yeah, and I'm last. What does that mean? - Oh. - Knock over exactly 100 blocks. (paper rustling). My time has already started. I understand that. I just feel like I can't leave this spot.
and I can't move this spot. And I haven't eaten a pretzel yet, but I'm gonna go ahead and eat one. At least I know I can do that. (pretzel crunching). Let me think. Before I just start doing, I'm gonna start by thinking. (crew laughing). 100. Let's see. Eight plus seven is 15. 21 is 35 plus 10, which is 45. So if I knock off all of those, that's 45.
Hmm. I'm gonna eat another pretzel. (Leonard laughing) - No, Link! - But I have to eat two. - Oh gosh. - I think. (crew laughing). - Oh gosh. - I've eaten two pretzels. Maybe that's a mistake. I just feel like this is a trick. Now, I'm not leaving, I'm not leaving the spot. (Link grunting). Did you see that? Did you see that? This is the one that you didn't want me to have. I wanna knock everything off of that one. (gentle music).
(ball thuds). (everyone laughing). I mean, at least it- - There it is. - Could've come back to me. So now I gotta eat more. So here's, I'm eating three. (gentle music). Why is there a camera up here? What is in that? Why is that out there? (box thuds). (everyone laughing).
Not having a lot of luck with that. Now I gotta eat four of these. (crew laughing). (Link laughing). Okay. Now, it says that I have to throw at least five balls. I threw, this is my third ball. (blocks rattling). Where are the cheers? Come on, I did something. (crew cheering).
All right, five. One, two, three, four, five. (gentle music). That's a lot of pretzels. Hmm. Hmm. (gentle music). Not a ball. (crew laughing). - See? The same... - But I still threw it. - But it didn't say that. Yeah. - Why did we both think that? - Now I gotta eat six. - I threw that as well. - Six. (gentle music).
Mm-mm. Mm-hm. Mm-hm-hm-hm. Hm-hm-hm-hm. In order to avoid. having to eat more pretzels, I am now throwing one ball. and a bunch of other crap. (crew laughing). - Okay. All right. Well, you did use it to your advantage. (gentle music). All at the same time? - Yeah. - This don't seem fair. (everyone laughing). - No way. No way. (Link mumbling).
- Seven. (gentle music). - Wow. - With no water. - I mean, I feel sorry for him at this point. (gentle music). - So now I gotta eat all of this? I promise I'm gonna eat all this. - Oh! (blocks rattling). - Mm-hm. Basically, I need to knock over. (dramatic music).
as many of these as I can. (dramatic music). Now that I've eaten. (dramatic music). (everyone laughing). Mm-hm-hm. Mm-hm. Mm-hm. Mm-hm-hm. (gentle music). (blocks rattling). Okay. All right.
(crew clapping). I think I've got it. 100. (gentle music). 100. (gentle music). I think. (gentle music). I'm gonna eat all of this. (crew laughing). (gentle music). (everyone clapping). - Bravo. - That was impressive. That was impressive. - It was. - Near the end, I think you got very close. Did you actually count?
- I tried to, I think, but... And I did a little math at the beginning that was accurate. - It was very accurate. - Did you get that? - Very accurate. - Very good. - It's the first time that's ever happened to me. - Very accurate. - I feel like the more that I thought, the worse that I got. It was like... (Link sighs). - Yeah. - But both feet stayed on. I was the only one- - Sure did. - Who stayed on the thing. - And that was unnecessary, just so you know. - Yeah, we stayed on. Emily didn't stay on. - We also stayed on. - I did not. - But also, you didn't eat that pretzel. - We stayed partially. - It said eat all your pretzels before the throw. You left pretzel on the table.
- That's not exactly what it said. - Ooh, judges. Judges. - Okay, well, we're gonna. go to the judges on this one. - [Crew] This is, you know, it's really about-. - I think Link won. - [Crew] Two guys at this point. As a reminder, Rhett, you had 115 blocks knocked over. And the goal was to get as close to 100 as possible. Link, total blocks knocked over, a count of 99. - Oh! - What? - Oh my God. - Wow. - Are you serious? - Yeah, I declare-. - Congratulations.
- I knew it was 99. - [Crew] The winner and has the honor. of signing the Praise-a-Doodle-Coop. And he have won $4,000 for the LA Regional Food Bank. (everyone clapping). - And I stayed on it. - [Crew] And we are not quite done yet. (thunder crashes) - Oh, the... (crew laughing). - Spell a word using the blocks. that were remaining at the end of your first task. You have two minutes.
Longest word wins. Your time starts now. - I don't remember what letters I had. - [Crew] Well, we have them for you, so get on over there 'cause your time starts now. - Oh, okay. - Oh my gosh. Over here? (crew laughing). (upbeat music). - I also don't know how to spell the word. (crew laughing). (Link laughing). - Come on, guys. (laughs). Can you beat me? Can you beat six? (upbeat music). - [Crew] Time's up. Put them down. All right, let's start with Emily.
- It spins and everything. (crew laughing). - [Emily] One of those is a W, but I turned it over. - [Link] Oh, that's smart. - I panicked. I panicked. - [Crew] That's okay. For the record, the longest word you could. have come up with was 'metaphysiological'. - See, I didn't know how to spell it, so I didn't... I was gonna do supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. - Oh, I had less letters. - But I didn't have an R. - All right. - I didn't have. as many letters. - You didn't have a R.
- [Rhett] Right. Right. - [Crew] Let's go down the line to Link. - Okay, I don't know how I did this, but... - Holy crap! - What? - What is it? What is it? (crew clapping). - Pelicans. - Whoa! - I don't know. I just went over here, and the first thing I though was 'pelicans'. (Rhett and Leonard laughing). And I can spell it. - Amazing. - [Crew] Your longest possible word, Link, was 'colloquializations'. (Link laughing). All right. All right, Rhett, you're next. - Flumes. You've heard of them. (Emily and Rhett laughing). They're everywhere these days. - [Link] That is a wild word, dude.
Okay. - [Crew] Rhett, your longest possible word. was 'communicatively' for 50 points. - Yeah, I almost did that. - [Crew] Yeah. And finally, Leonard, what do you got? - Ooh! - Faulty. - Faulty like my thought process. while throwing the balls. - Hey, listen, you beat me. - [Crew] All right, well, pelicans with eight. - And you know what it is? - Wait. Wait. - It's a bird. It's a bird! (thunder crashes). - What could have been my longest word? Mine? - [Crew] Oh yeah, I'm sorry. Your largest word could've been 'autofail'.
- Autofail. - [Crew] Which is kinda. what you did, so. (everyone laughing). - You didn't have a lot of letters to work with. 'cause you knocked so many over. - [Crew] You get sign the Praise-a-Doodle-Coop twice. by being the big winner today. - I can't believe this. - This is your day, man. - I can't believe this. What else am I gonna do? Because, man, I am on a roll. I get to sign it twice? - [Rhett] All right, congratulations to Link. - Yes. Congratulations. - [Rhett] He gets some. more money in the bank. (everyone clapping). - Wow. - LA Regional Food Bank. - You won the whole game.
- Thank y'all for joining us. And thank you for being your Mythical best. - You know what time it is! - I'm Emma. - I'm Eva. - I'm Dad. - And we are at Mount Belvedere. in Moorea, Tahiti. And it's time to-. - [Together] Spin the Wheel of Mythicality. - Be careful. (wheel clicking). - Good work, Dad. - Don't knock over. any blocks. (Link laughing). - What we got? - Well, coming off of his big victory, Link has a huge announcement. that he wants to deliver to everyone. It's personal, you know?
- I think that I'm gonna have this white dot. that's been under my eye for like a couple of years removed. (crew laughing). (crew clapping). - Join us in Good Mythical More. to see if we can name 100 men. - [Link] Get a behind the scenes look at this episode. on Behind the Mythicality, exclusively on The Mythical Society.
