Turning Foods Inside Out (Taste Test)
- What would an inside out Twinkie taste like? Let's talk about that. (upbeat music). - Good Mythical Morning. - A cartoon owl once told us that it took three licks to get. to the center of a Tootsie Pop. - Well, that's too many licks. Who has the time? - We don't, but that got us thinking, are there any other delicious treats. hiding inside other foods? And should those insides be the star? Well, we gotta find out.
It's time for Inside Out Foods. We're starting off with an In-N-Out burger, a double double to be specific. We're gonna go out and in? - Yeah, we are. - Let's see what we've got. This is what happens. - Whoo hoo hoo. - [Link] When you shuffle a burger like a deck of cards. I mean, that's lot of onion. And we have the original In-N-Out over there. for comparison. - But why taste that? - When you've memorized the taste. - This isn't really. We're not comparing it to the original.
We're saying, does this on its own work? - Well, I'm touching a lot of onion. There is--. - I like to know I've been eating a burger. - With such of a thing. as onion wrapped In-N-Out burgers. - The flying Dutchman. - You can get like a flying. Dutchman onion wrap. - But it doesn't have a bun--. - You can get a double onion wrapped if you want, I'm sure. - Well, I'm not sure. - I don't think I can get my mouth around this.
(people laughing). - We both love onions. - I'm sorry about that. - It is grilled, which does help. - I mean, I love the taste, but I'm beginning to understand why they invented buns. - You've made a mess. Somehow I didn't make a mess. - Yeah, because you got the plate.
- Yeah, but there's nothing on my plate. Because look at what happened. - My mouth is smaller, so I had to squish. - Whoo, I mean it's very aromatic. You got that onion just kicking, boy. I mean, it's just too much onion. I've been tempted to try an onion wrap. Thank you for answering that question for me. - [Rhett] I love the construction of an onion. Just a bunch of concentric circles. - I always want to buy a flying Dutchman as well, but when I get there, I end up just continuing.
to get a double double. That's really what I want. - Who needs this much onion? - Oh God. I wanna like it so much. - It just keeps coming. Onion just keeps coming, y'all. Until just a little volcano shaped onion. - That's why I keep eating it. It's beautiful. - Okay, who are we kidding? I mean, this was a cute thing to do, but this was not a smart thing to do. So we're gonna say In-N-Out Burger--. - [Rhett And Link] Is an inside out sin.

Why does everything need to have another fee? - Yes. - It's unfeelievable. - I like that you said unfeelievable, But I take fees too. - You take fees? - I hate fees too. - I hate fees too. - Think about movie tickets, all right? When I order them online, I get charged a fee, so that I don't have to print a ticket. There's no printed ticket, why am I being charged more?
- I don't know. - For doing less? - It's enough to get worked up about. - You want to get me worked up on concert fees? - No, I don't. - All right. Chime hates unnecessary fees too. All right, we got a Twinkie, which as you know, has the cream on the inside. - Yes, it does. - You can imagine what we did. There's two ingredients to a Twinkie. - I'm predicting. - Cream and the outside of a Twinkie. - That we're going to have stiffened cream. - Stiffened the cream.
- And we do. - [Rhett] It ain't that stiff. Nicole, what'd you do on this? - [Nicole] So we took that inner Twinkie goo. and we stiffened it a little bit. with a little bit of marshmallow gel. - You did stiffen cream. - [Nicole] It's slightly stiffened, yes. And then on the center is a meringue butter cake. in kind of a slab formation that you'll see in there. - Instead of cream filling, it has fill cream in. - [Nicole] Sure. A little freaky, but yeah. - I think it tastes good.
I think it tastes better than a normal Twinkie. Maybe? - I agree with the ratio of cream to bread. What is it? Cake? Cake. - [Nicole] Yes, it's cake. - Is better. But again, we eat with our hands. We're people and they put the soft. non-sticky stuff on the outside because we're people. If really what I want is I want this.
much cream inside of a Twinkie. - Oh. - I want an extra creamy Twinkie. - That's the ratios episode. - That's next week. - Yeah, we'll have to do that. Yeah, it seems like I need to shave this Twinkie. You know what I'm saying? - If you're gonna shave your Twinkie, keep that to yourself. - Well, I just meant it looked like shaving cream. That's all that I meant. - Okay, whatever. - I can keep that to myself. - Whatever. - Okay. - I want to think about this one though. - We believe in the concept.
- Because I could eat it with a fork. I could be like, "I'm eating it with a fork.". - It's the best part of the Twinkie. - Try it with a fork. - I already liked it. (people laughing). - It's basically just cake with a lot of icing though. Can I just say that it became something else? - Yeah, well, I think it needs to ship with a fork. You put a fork inside of here. and then it's all stiff cream and a fork. - Bamboo? - Yeah, bamboo fork. - Eco-friendly. - Then we have it.
- So this is conditional? - Yeah. Twinkie with bamboo Fork. - [Rhett And Link] Inside out win. - A little note here. Since we picked the inside out version. in that last round, we decided. to bring the outside inside. to bring back balance to the world. You find anything out there? - I don't think anybody will miss it. - Boy, it's a lot bigger in person, isn't it? Oh yeah. All up close like that. Okay, we got deviled eggs typically presented.
with the egg white on the outside. and the yolk taken and rearranged. and put back on the inside. - Love them. Never though that was broken. I guess we're going to call this angel eggs. Uh-oh. Ay, ay, ay. (people laughing). - Nicole, what happened here? - So we took the yolks, blended them up. and added agar-agar instead of gelatin to give it. that snappy egg white texture you know and love.
And then we took the egg whites, cooked them, put them also through a blender, piped it with some mayonnaise. and you got some paprika on top. - So the paprika is still in the same place? - Yes. - The reason why I don't like an egg yolk is. because it's not the texture of an egg white. - Oh, maybe you changed it. I dig it. - And sink it. - Mm-mm. (people laughing). It still didn't. It still kind of just--.
- That's not doing anything for me. - It tastes exactly the same. - [Nicole] But the texture's all wacky? - Yeah, just kind of disintegrate it in there. Oh gosh. - I would say the texture is as egg white-like. as you can get an egg yolk, but still not there because--. I mean just look at that. I mean that's natural. - It's so natural. - [Rhett] That's also natural. - Yep,. now at family reunions, they all the time serve these. and if you brought these--.
- [Rhett] You wouldn't be invited back? - And that might be what you want. So keep that in mind. - Yeah, family reunions. When was the last time you went to one? - Ah, this past summer. - Oh yeah, that's right. because we happened to be in town in North Carolina. - Yeah, and it was a potluck too. And I was exempt because I was from out of state. - Really? - Perfect scenario. Going to a family potluck. where you don't have to bring anything. - And did you enjoy yourself? - Like I was a child, but okay, it was like I was a child. - What was the activity?
Everybody wearing the same t-shirt? - We don't do that. - Cornhole? - Didn't do that. - Anybody get up and give a speech? - Yes. - And what'd they talk about? - He talked about what everybody was up to. and he got a little teary-eyed. and then he handed it. over to the oldest living relative, which was Nana. - Oh. - And then she. made sure everybody was reading their Bible. (people laughing). - Did you get a shout out? - No, I didn't. But my cousin who flips burgers at a food truck that's going.
to be featured on the Carolina Traveler got a shout. - Oh, he deserves it. - She. - You don't. - Oh, sorry. - Yeah, yeah. - [Rhett] She. - Don't make assumptions. - Yo didn't say cousinette, I'm sorry. (people laughing). - Good burgers apparently. - Okay. I mean, but it's beautiful, don't you think? I mean, look at it. Do you really want to say no to this? - I put it in my mouth, so yes. - Yeah, okay. - [Rhett And Link] Deviled eggs, inside out sin. (loud buzz).
- There's a lot that goes into each. and every episode of "Good Mythical Morning.". We have an incredible crew that puts a lot. of hard work into each episode. And you can see-- - We also work hard. - Their process. - You can see the behind the mythicality process. overall in the Mythical Society. - Yeah, I mean, I think maybe they work harder. I find out when I watch them too. - That's right. Fortune cookies. I mean--. - We're fortunate enough to have some. - The only food with a message inside. - You will soon be involved in many gatherings and parties.
- Oh, like the family reunion. - Huh. - [Rhett] Next year you're going. - More of those. - New financial resources will soon become available to you. - Why do you go evil? - I don't know. - You going to do evil things with that? - Financial resources. Okay. - All right, traditional fortune cookies. - I don't believe in this. - They don't have their origins in China. Traditional fortune cookies are from Japan. and these inside out ones are from Burbank.
(people laughing). - Oh. - You don't have to eat the cookie to get the fortune. because it's right here. - It's a little bit of a spoiler, huh? - And then let's look inside to get the cookie. - Well, I'm going to read it first. - Well, I can see the cookie. and I'm like, what is the--. Look at that. - A chance happening will reveal your destiny. Okay, so I mean, you just went. with the normal thing. (people laughing).
- That is such a delicate little fortune cookie. - It could have been anything. - [Carney] You wanted a joke on top of a joke? - Yes, I did. I wanted a hat on a hat, Carney. Boy. - A mistake will soon be corrected. - How did y'all do this, Nicole? - [Nicole] Well, it's pretty much like a tuile batter. or a really, really thin cookie batter. And we spread that out on a sheet, baked it off, and then cut it in these really, really small portions while it was still warm. - It's so delicate. - It's better.
It's better that--. Yeah, that thin. - This is too much cookie. - This is archaic all of a sudden, now that I've had this. - And I like the fact that it's bigger and then. - We're correct. This is the mistake that we're correcting. - You can put it on your shirt. - Fortune cookies are too thick. (people laughing). See, when that hit your crotch, did it hurt? - Yeah, it hurt a little bit. - See, because it was too thick. The mistake has been corrected. with the thinness of the cookie. - Remember that time we were.
at that Chinese restaurant in Fuquay. and we were having a discussion about something. about like our future, and then we opened up that fortune cookie. and it was like very specifically relevant. - We felt like we were confirmed. in the decision we were making that I can't remember. - Yeah, and then I lost it. - But--. I wouldn't lose this, look how big it is. - We were very excited. Well, we didn't have any business getting. that excited over a fortune. - No, I don't because I don't believe in it.
- But when it was something. that we really wanted to hear--. - It aligns with something you wanna hear. - Well, we started believing. - That'll tell you something. - And yeah, yeah. Remember that next time you believe something. - So we're gonna say. (people laughing). - We are anti-believing things all of a sudden. - [Rhett] A fortune cookie. - [Rhett and Link] Inside out win. (upbeat rock music). - Well, we had to get some more stuff. from outside to balance everything. - Mission accomplished. Here, hold this. - Okay, well, this makes me feel a little uncomfortable. - I mean, they're all dry, so I guess.
- Okay. As long as they're inside, they're serving our purposes. - Ooh, chocolate Chips. - Link, as you know, we have sent chocolate chip cookies. in a different direction before when we went. chocolate chipless, but I can--. - For me, which is my dream chocolate chip is. chocolate chipless. chocolate chip cookies, which there's a groundswell. of support across the internet for this concept, not of me. I'm just joining the contingent of people that know.
that it is its own thing. and should be something that everyone accepts. and doesn't start saying things like it's a sugar cookie. - But here's the thing, Link. - That it's dumb or what's wrong. - One of the things that the internet has taught us all is. that if you're wrong about something, you can find a lot of people to agree with you. That doesn't make you right. - That's also true. - That just means there's a lot of people--. - I'll bite right here. - There's a lot of people who agree with you. - I didn't get a chocolate chip.
Oh, I did get one. But that's okay. - Okay, but I think this is going to be. an unpleasant experience for you. But hold on, but that could be a completely different thing. because it's just like a chocolate bar with little pieces. of cookie dough in it, which is a type. of chocolate bar that you might get. - [Link] Well, that's an interesting thought. - Don't think of it like a cookie, think of it like chocolate. - There's a cookie that looks like this that's not this. - [Nicole] You mean like a dark chocolate. peanut butter chip cookie? - Yeah, something like that. - [Nicole] Yeah, but it's not that. - But this is just straight up chocolate.
- Straight up chocolate. - [Nicole] It's a chocolate ganache. because we didn't want to just give you a bar of chocolate. We wanted to soften the bite a little bit for you, make it a little bit more palatable. - Super rich though. - I mean, I wouldn't have more than one. - I have not detected those cute little cookie dough. balls in my bite. - There's a little bit of crispy. That's all it is. - I'm just trying to get a cookie dough. - [Rhett] Just a little crispy.
Even as I just try to pick that out, sorry, and only eat that. So you're saying it's a chocolate bar. - In the shape of a cookie. - In the shape of a cookie. with little dough balls that I can't taste it. - They are being overpowered by the chocolate. They add a little bit of a texture thing that I like, but these are gonna deceive a lot of people. because they're going to think it's just one of those. chocolate chip cookies that. - Yeah. - Like you said.
- It's a fun little gimmick. - You think this is a gimmick? Do you like it? - I do like it, but actually I don't like it. as much as I just like a cookie. - It's beautiful. - I just think I would rather eat just a chocolate bar. - Oh my God. - I wonder if somebody. who had spent some time, you know, gardening, who just read the Toll House. bag wrong could end up with that. (people laughing).
- Probably so, yeah. I mean-- - And they probably enjoy it. - Not as good as that though. Chocolate chip cookie. - [Rhett And Link] It's an inside out sin. (loud buzzer). - So some things, not all things, not most things. - Not most things. - Can be turned inside out, the fortune cookie and also the Twinkie. - Even some of the things that we said could, maybe shouldn't, but we're standing. by the really thin fortune cookie. - Yes, we are. - Thanks for being your mythical best. - You know what time it is. - Hey, I'm Maria. - And I'm Eric.
- And we just cooked pulled pork Twinkies. from "The Mythical Cookbook.". - And it's time to spin the wheel of mythicality. - Enjoy. Pulled pork Twinkies. - I forgot that was in there. - They're good. They're made out of cornbread. They're actually good. - Nice. - Well, this wheel's acting up. (people laughing).
