The Secret Lives of Rhett & Link
- We're finally revealing it all. - Let's talk about that. (playful theme music). - Good Mythical Morning. - Today is a day that has been a long time coming. We are excited and proud to say that today. we are officially releasing Rhett and Link's. Book of Mythicality. - Wooooo, thank you mythical crew.
- I'm gonna flip through the whole thing, so you don't have. to buy it, you can just watch me flip. - Oh yeah, watch me flip and watch you nae nae. There it is right there. If you're a speed reader, you got it, that's it, you don't have to buy it or even listen to the ebook. We are super excited, like Rhett just said. This maybe more, I believe, more than any other project. we've ever worked on, we've worked for so long. without sharing any of it.
I mean this is easily over a year and a half. worth of work, culminating-- - There's a front and a back. - Culminating in not only a front and a back. - And a spine. - But a lot of middle. I mean there's lots of middle in this thing, too. - Oh now you're gonna show more. - Where things are written, and then things are illustrated, and we're just super proud of it, and we want you to own a copy, and we want you to give another copy to other people. that you love, and yes, it does contain secrets.
- Lots of secrets. - Of our secret life. There are many stories of our friendship, and even before. our friendship. - And we're gonna talk. about some of those secrets. - In this thing. - So okay, we're gonna actually talk about some. of the secrets today on the show, so stick around. - We are gonna get to that. But first things first, let's give some context. about what this book is about in general, because it's not just about. revealing our deepest, darkest secrets. - Right, so who's this book for? You can see that the subtitle is. A Field Guide to Curiosity, Creativity and Tomfoolery.
So stated simply this is for anybody who considers. themself curious, anybody who wants to be more creative. - Or Tom. - And anybody named Tom, or not named Tom who just wants to take. themselves less seriously. So again, this is something that has been. sort of building throughout our entire lives, and also over the past decade of creating content together, we've started realizing that like, oh, we're beginning to understand the things that we see. as mythical, and the things that contain mythicality, why don't we write an entire book that outlines.
what that is, and what it means to us, and that's what the book is. - Yeah, so it does contain lots of stories. from our friendship and before, back first grade, Miss Locklear's class, to help illustrate mythicality in our lives. - Yeah, basically going from all the way to the beginning. up until now, all the ways that we experience--. - I just like touching it, I'm sorry, I'm being dis--. Can we just take a second? - I've been touching it quite a bit. - When you work on a book, I mean so many of the things.
we work on, they're not physical, they're just digital. So it's nice to just, it's nice to just touch it. - You can touch it on your own time. - Well here's what I'm gonna do. I have quick list, I'm gonna go through this bulleted list. of things, beyond just the personal stories, that this book has. I'm not trying to get salesman-y here, I guess I'm just. I'm excited about the things we put into this thing. Our high school yearbook notes to each other. We found those. - Scandalous. - [Link] A picture Rhett drew of me in first grade.
- That's beautiful. - A rap we wrote. The first song we ever wrote, it was a rap. In middle school, we have the actual manuscript. of that song, you said horrible? - It was horrible, yeah. - Spoiler alert, it's horrible. We created a quiz you can take with your friend. to see if you have compatible senses of humor, so we might break up some friendships, it's healthy. A guide to resolving conflict without fighting. The secret to making yourself eat something gross. A visual guide to slow dancing. - Featuring me in a dress.
- Stories of some mythical crew members' worst summer jobs. That's right, we got some mythical crew. contributions in this thing. There's an actual board game in the book. - Yes, not gonna show you that, because then you'll. print it out and just play it. - There is a chapter written by our wives. that includes exactly what they thought of us. when we first started dating, as well as a bunch. of notes, letters, and mushy things that we gave. our wives when we were in the dating phase. - Yeah, I regret including some of that. - Because they were honest.
- Right, yeah, we said we want you to honest, say. exactly what you thought. - You write it, you write it, and then they read it in the ebook. As well, so you should also get that. There's an entire chapter written from the year 2075, including the account of the time we showed. Matt Damon the future, and what we're going to look like. in 100,000 years. There's a breakdown of the difference. between a superfan and a stalker, an entire chapter dedicated to our dogs, including a quiz you can take to see if you should. get a dog, it's very definitive.
There's lyrics and music for a song that we'd like. you to sing at our funeral, or funerals. if we don't die at the same time, but we're planning on doing that, because we also. wrote our obituaries, which include how we die. There's lots of other stuff, including grown-up. mythical merit badges that you can earn. - Okay, but what about these secrets? So you clicked on this video because it said. the secret life of Rhett and Link. Now specifically the things, we've told so many stories. over the years and revealed so many things, that we dug deep to get some things.
that we had never told anyone, and things that. we questioned whether or not we should have told anyone, and they're in the book. A lot of people don't know that Link actually tried. to have other best friends before me in first grade, and actually went through a number of other children. who rejected him. - See you're making light. of it in order to make yourself feeL better, because you're hurt that I was looking elsewhere. I didn't know if it would hurt you, but it had to be in the book. - It made me feel good. I also wrote, - Made him feel good. - In the same chapter, I wrote about the reason.
that I invited myself over to Link's house that first time. to spend the night in first grade. - It's not what I thought. - Hopefully you weren't disappointed, and why. - I was a little bit. - we became best friends. that first night. We actually confess to, I don't know what. the statute of limitations for this kind of crime is, but we actually confess to the time we broke. the North Carolina distillery laws. while we were in high school. So if there is no statute of limitations to that, it happened probably around 1994, we could be arrested. after the release of this book, so it was nice knowing you. - We also talk about, - This could be.
our last episode. - We once went to, we were invited to a party at Red Foo's house, hopefully Red Foo will not read this, no, he'd be fine with reading it. - Well there were some awkward moments, and I think we've told part of this story, but not all of it in the detail that we go into in the book. - We went into some very specific detail. Big reveal, we've revealed the truth of what happened. to the Good Mythical Morning time capsule that you guys. helped us create a few years ago. - We were not forthright. - We were not entirely truthful, and we now.
come clean in the book. We've got a hand-drawn map of Buies Creek. that shows where our houses were growing up, and also--. - I drew it with my hand. - You did, and where our secret meeting location was, the place that we would meet when we rode our bikes. to meet one another in the middle of town. - So theoretically, you could travel to Buies Creek. with this map, and then you could reenact meeting us. I mean we probably won't be there. - There's also a lot of shirtless photos of us in college, because for some reason, - Oh, you gotta do that.
- It just turns out that that was how we liked. to take pictures in college. - There is a naked photo of me in the book. - There is, not even from college, from like. - I think there's a naked one - A couple months ago. - Of you too, but it's like, - Just the upper half. - It's very biological in nature, that doesn't make it sound better. - So anyway, the reason that we're taking this time. to talk about the book is because if you are interested. in our show at all, and the stuff that we've created, I think that this book does a great job of explaining. why it is that we do what we do, and why it is, more specifically, that we do it.
the way that we do it. And it has a lot to do with the shared friendship. over 30-plus years, and also this concept of mythicality. that really comes out in the book. - Right, so go to BookOfMythicality.com, get yourself a copy, if you are a dedicated mythical beast, you are gonna love this thing, but I also, honestly think that it's a great gift. for somebody who maybe hasn't watched a show yet, doesn't know about us, but would value. a fresh, fun take on creativity as told. through the lens of friendship,
so buy it for your thoughtful child, or your cool parent, or a tentative barista. - Yeah, that too. - Put it one of those lotteries. that people like bid on in order. to raise money for stuff. A raffle. - Do all that. In the meantime, thank you for liking, commenting, and subscribing. - You know what time it is. - Hi, I'm Emily from Indiana, and I'm in.
