Savory Candy Taste Test

Should candies that taste like food actually be food? Let's talk about that. Good Mythical Morning. We are in a spooky, spooky... Cornfield. Cornfield. Corn is the scariest thing in 2025. Corn! Oh, there's somebody lurking behind the corn. Oh, and there's, do you see the crow?

Watch it, look at him. He's watching us. Oh, he moves? He's watching you. He's- Yeah. It's a real crow. Yes, we have a real crow. Very intelligent birds. Just be nice to them. This is not real corn either, I will say. You know, I had to ask a bunch of questions. Yeah, had to taste it a little bit. I had to taste it a little bit, I had to touch it a little bit, and I found out that this is handcrafted fake corn. That's the capabilities that we have at our fingertips. because there's talented people that work here. That's right. Right, on the,

just far enough away, they won't let me touch them. That's why they're at my fingertips. Or the corn, you can't even touch the corn, try it. See, look. Oh! It's right out of his reach. Some companies make unusual candies. that are supposed to taste like savory foods, but they don't have the guts to put their candy. where their mouth is. To translate, no one is using these weird candies. as ingredients in actual savory dishes, and you know what we say, it's worth a shot. Okay, boys, why don't you go ahead. and put on those blindfolds in this spooky set.

Why don't we? Oh. Oh! I can't see the corn anymore. I'm in a dark cornfield, as you can see we can't. Okay, you've just been delivered. your first candy, so I want you to taste it. and guess what food it's supposed to taste like. It's on Rhett's side. Now, when you say it's been delivered, what do you mean? You have received, via a talented crew member... What? A candy. Was the crew member just beyond my fingertips?

Okay, what are these? Corn. Okay, typically, what we're gonna do. in this episode is I'm gonna give you a three, two, one, but yes, it is corn. Does it taste super corny? Did he get a point for that? Yeah, I did, 'cause it did, it tastes like corn. I mean, I'm telling you. Yeah-. And I don't know- He is. But hold on, I was the one who said, "What is this?". Does this taste like corn because I'm in corn, or does it taste like corn because it tastes like corn? I think it tastes just like corn, but you didn't want me to say it that much.

Well, that much. I didn't want you to say it that much. Well, you can take off your blindfolds, 'cause you can see that it just straight-up. looks like corn. Oh. This is Jelly Drops from Helen Ou Chinese Snacks Candy. Oh, Helen. It tastes like corn, Helen. Oh, I just said, "Oh." Helen. Yeah, you did. It's, 'cause it's- It's like the little corns. These are cut up, but these are the whole corns. Look at that, and it tastes really good,

buttery. Okay, well, I'm hoping then, that what the Mythical Kitcheneers. have prepared for you will also taste really good, 'cause they've used the corn candy, and they have made elote. Oh. I love elote. Look at that. Wow. Looky there. So everything else on this elote is as it would be. Yeah, so it's butter, sour cream, cotija cheese, a little bit of cilantro and tahini. We can never say-. Cojita.

Cotija. Cotija, yeah. Cojita. Yeah, 'cause he said-. What do you say? He, well, Link- What do I say? I say cotija. No he doesn't, he says cojita, and he says it wrong, and he gets in my head. Okay, I'm gonna eat this thing whole, because it just feels like that's what you're supposed to do. when it's this small. I'ma bite it in half because it's a corn. Mm. Okay. That is still so good.

Because it's a little bit cold, if you eat the whole thing... It's a little bit cold? Well, so that the consistency of the corn, it's hard if you try to eat the whole thing altogether. I'm just letting you know. It's very chewy. It's very chewy. I recommend taking a bite. like I did. I recommend taking a bite. out of it. Mm, he agrees with me. by repeating every single thing I'm saying. Don't do what I did. But do what I did. Mm, that's the flavor, though. This is an elevation of candy.

This is the best savory candy experience I've ever had. This is the future. I feel like you might be having. a short-term memory problem. Well, I remember eating that, and now I remember eating this. This is the best? I'm here for the best savory candy experience. of your entire life. Yes. And it's the first one, but now what's-. Yes. What's gonna come from here? We can only go downhill from here. Well, according to you, I won't remember.

We are saying. Sweet Victory! Sweet Victory! All right, give your next candy a suck. I'm gonna wait for you this time. It's a candy cane. What? Come on, man. Now you're talking about the taste of it. Oh. Eh. It's, this is not, I know I don't have much short-term memory according to you, but it's not as good as the corn.

Oh, you remember the corn? He remembers the corn. What is that? Hold on. I know what this is. Okay, I got a guess. Good gracious. Whatever it is, they've done a good job at it. Okay, three, two, one. Fried chicken. Hotdogs. No. Oh, hold on, is it? It's not fried chicken? Pizza. You are-. It tastes like KFC. Well,

prior to the pizza guess, you were both in adjacent, similar territory of what this thing is. Biscuits. Again, you are very- Biscuits and gravy. Woo-. Mashed potatoes and gravy. Yup, it's done. Just... Gravy. Just mashed potatoes. [Stevie] You can take your blindfolds off, it's gravy. Is it gravy? Is it just gravy? It's a gravy cane. It's from. a company called Archie- All aboard the gravy cane. McPhee. I'm sorry, I was making a gravy cane joke. as you were explaining that.

Not bad. They didn't call it Gravy Cane, they called it Gravy Candy Canes. That felt like a... Like gravy train? Yeah, welcome, corn. Now if I were in charge of this show, I would be like, "Let's put this on a, on mashed potatoes"? But what if you were Canadian. and you were in charge. of this show? Even better! Yeah! I'm so glad I'm not in charge.

of this show. We put it on french fries, and we'd call it... Poutine! Poutine. Cane. I've always thought that poutine is as addictive as cocaine. Yep. Yep. I think, scientifically, that is the case. that has been established. So you have melted these? Yes, it is- Into a gravy. It is hot candy sugar liquid, so, you know, eat with caution, but it does have your classic french fries, some cheese curds, and your gravy. No, you gave me a fork.

Yeah. What would the Canadians do? Well, I'm not Canadian, so I can't answer that. Canadians, do you fork it? There's one Canadian somewhere here. Yep. Grab that thing. Grab that thing? Listen to the Canadians. He said, "Grab that thing.". I don't know what he meant by that. You grabbing a-. But I grabbed a fork. Use your fingers. Okay, well, I used my fingers to grab the fork. I mean, it's still sweet, very sweet.

Huh? Did the graviness go away? I think it's still there. It's still there, but it's not. Not bad. Not bad. But... Not good. I don't like this, how about that? But you don't hate it? I don't hate it, but is that what I'm here for, to not hate things? I, I think, this doesn't make me excited. Is that what I'm here for? I was, I was-. No, I want, you're here for much more than that, Rhett. I was pleasantly surprised by round one. You're here to talk.

Because the thing tasted so much like corn. You're here to love. It was so much like corn that I didn't even need Stevie. to count down for me to know that it was corn. In this case-. I like it. Gravy would be so much better. Like, gravy's a 10 out of 10 on poutine. This is a 2 out of 10. Yeah. If there's an eight-point. differential... It's too sweet, and defeat is a big word, but I think we have to use it. Hey, I believe and you can say it. Sweet. Defeat. Defeat. "Good Mythical Evening: Sloshed in Space".

is now available on demand, so, you can stream the full recording. of our R-rated live-streamed intergalactic mission. at goodmythicalevening.com. You've probably seen the clips floating around. of our debauchery. Mm-hmm. Experience the whole thing, goodmythicalevening.com. Okay. We're under. Is that it? Okay. I keep just feeling your hand.

But, the plate is round. Hey, come on. And this side is on me. I'm blindfolded. So if you come this way... Which way? This side, if you're on the left side, you would feel that side of the plate. The reason you're hitting my hand. is because my hand is on the right side of the plate. See that? Yep. But it gave me more information. So this is a cross-section of something. Mm. Mm. This is a, it's taffy. It definitely feels like taffy.

It's a little spicy. Ow! I just bit my tongue. About to say, I've never heard somebody eat spicy things. and say, "Ow.". Ooh, it is spicy, and I bit my tongue, so the place where I bit my tongue, it hurts even more. because there's now spice in it. It just tastes like straight-up spicy taffy. Ow. Did you do it again, or is it just... No. Still hurting. It's just still hurting. Okay. You wanna guess?

Yeah. Sure. Three, two, one. Jalapeno. Octopus. What are you laughing at, Carney? It's, it, no. No, no, continue please. Yeah. You know how when they serve octopus and it's chopped up, and then it's like rough on the outside. and smooth on the ends? That's what it felt like, and I was like, "Oh, you know what?" You thought it was like, maybe like a little joke round where we gave you octopus.

instead of taffy? I did, for the record, I didn't think that. Yeah, and you're correct, Rhett, it is jalapeno taffy. Oh, it's jalapeno taffy? Yeah. What? From Plunkett's Hallmark. Okay, well, it just tastes spicy, and it was taffy, and so I just figured it was a pepper. I like jalapeno-flavored stuff, and as a person. who likes jalapeno-flavored stuff, I can tell you, this actually doesn't taste like jalapeno.

Even though- Even though. you got it right? It just tasted spicy, and I was like, "Well, it wouldn't just be hot sauce.". I mean, that's just insult to injury. You know that taste, you know the flavor of jalapeno flavor. You know the flavor of jalapeno flavor. We talk about it all the time, how much we love it. You taste it in that? You said octopus. I was going off of texture. Taste it again and tell me jalapeno's in there. Hey, it's spicy. But that classic jalapeno flavor, not present.

Then why'd you guess... What'd y'all do with it? Well, so I don't know how jalapeno-ey. these poppers are going to be. Well, I shouldn't have separated those words. These are jalapeno poppers. Okay. Yeah. Oh, wow. Looky there. Oh no. Oh, so, it's fried? Yeah, so we took the taffy, and we formed it into like that little jalapeno, hollowed-out, bowl shape.

We put some cream cheese, some cheddar cheese in there, and then deep-fried it with some panko. Oh yeah, they're hot. It's gonna be a little warm, not gonna lie. Cream cheese is always good. Wow, that's, wow, that's fun. They make me forget my tongue hurt. What part of your tongue did you bite, tip, side or... Almost the tip. Ah, just the tip. I'm proud of you, you came up with that.

No, I've heard it before. I've heard "Just the tip" before. Well, I'm still a little proud of you. 'cause you repeated that. And I was hoping you bit the tip so I could say it. Really? Yeah, yeah. So you're proud of me too. I'm proud of you for setting me up. For that. This is really good. Yeah, it has no business being good at all. This, this- Why is it good? Is the best savory candy experience. I have ever had in my life. Let's go.

How does it feel when the man next to you says that? I just feel like I'm missing something. Oh. I understand that, it makes me feel like I have a deficit, and I wanna project it onto you, which I understand is what you did to me. Oh, okay. But that elote, though, was awesome, 'cause I've, but this is-. I was hoping you were gonna say. it feels like an overreaction, but it's okay. This is- No, no, no. This is the best. savory candy experience- I respect your opinion. I respect your opinion, dude. It's what you do, and then it's also what I do,

and I do agree to an extent. But you only ate just the tip. Well, my tongue does still hurt. That's really good, the cheese really helps. What we're trying to say is, it's a Sweet Victory! Sweet Victory! Mm-hmm, oh, this is different. This is cotton candy. Oh.

You got it all. Thank you. Ooh. What, what? Wow! Jeez. Oh. Jeez, Louise. Yeah, some of y'all know, some of y'all know. What did he do, a comedy?

Is he doing comedy? We once worked with her. What, Louise? You have no idea what I did. There's no way you'd know what I'm talking about. I don't even care. All right, I'm ready. Can I tell you what happened in the dark? I'd rather not know. I didn't give you an, I gave you all the cotton candy, didn't give myself enough, and I ate it, and then I wanted to know what I ate, so I smelled my fingers, and then I put my fingers. under my arms and smelled 'em again, and that was what Molly Shannon did. when she played that schoolgirl. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, she did a whole movie. Yeah. "Superstar," you ready? "Superstar." "Superstar.". Yep. Three, two, one. Cheddar cheese. Pickle. Oh. Pickle. You're both incorrect. This one, I thought, maybe you're both naming things. that you would use this thing on, potentially, and/or seasonings that are adjacent to seasonings. that are in this thing, but the answer is still hidden.

Burger, cheeseburger. Mustard. Mm, that was a clue. when I said the answer is still hidden. Hidden. Cucumber. What? I don't understand the clue. So it's something that's hidden. Okay, you-. Hidden Valley Ranch! There you go. Ah, ranch. Oh, ranch. Cucumber! Well, a cucumber is hidden in a pickle. Chocolate, oh, you went deep lore, no.

Chocolate Storybook is the name of this company. I'd like it better if Storybook has ranch cotton candy. It's not bad, but I liked it better. when I thought it was pickle. This is a gag gift, this is a white elephant, this is a dirty Santa. These are the places that you would find this sort of thing. Ain't nobody gonna be getting this. for their own personal enjoyment. Are we gonna dip wings in this? Yeah, let's bring some wings and carrots out,

and that's all you have to do is see how it holds up. against a, you know, a typical dip. Looky there. Okay. I'm actually gonna go for the drum. You gonna try to dip? If you dip, when you dip, I dip. I dip, we dip. We dip. But it's not really-. It's not really good. I think what we need to do is you need to take it, and you just need to go like that. Hold on, that's all of it. No, and then you take that. Okay. See, that's how you do it.

It just looks like I dropped it in some cotton bottles. There we go. I think it's a little boney, though. Yeah. Yeah, there is. Ugh. That wasn't great. Maybe it'll be better on pizza. Not my favorite.

Oh, it- It looks like. you're just wiping it with a napkin, that is falling apart. Well, you know, that's what-. It's so unappetizing. That's what some people do with pizza, they'll get their pizza, and then they'll like-. I've seen you do it. They'll dab. all the grease off. Some people, some people, meaning you. Okay. This is difficult, y'all. I hate this.

I like all the parts that are not the ranch cotton candy. Making sure Randy's not coming out. This is horrible. We didn't even touch the carrots. Oh, all I'm gonna do. is touch carrots. We didn't even touch 'em. Oh, the carrots are gonna help erase. this negative experience. Just eat pizza without the thing on it. I'd rather not, 'cause now I think I associate it. I can't eat pizza ever again. You ruined pizza for a guy. Sweet Defeat! We have a Queen Sweep on our hands,
