My Hot Yoga Experience
Finally, yoga for dudes who are. embarrassed to do yoga. I'm Cliff from Tampa, Florida. Let's. talk about that. [Applause]. Good. mythical morning. This episode is. brought to you by Smule, makers of the. brand new Songify 2.0 app. You can talk. or sing and it immediately turns it into. a song. Now you can hear the song as. you're recording. live.
Yeah, I'll link. It's impressive. Yeah, it's. good. We're actually launching a contest. today for the next four weeks. You can. use the Songify 2.0 app to create a. jingle for this show, Good Mythical. Morning. We've got all the details in. the description and the steps in how to. do it will also be at the end of this. video. Key thing is you can win mythical. shoes and a $100 iTunes gift card of. SHM. So make your musical rendition. You.
actually don't even have to sing. You. can just talk. It does all the work for. you. Then email it to us. You might be. one of those people that would like to. do some yoga. and uh and you'd be alone. There's a new. type of yoga for you men folk who are. embarrassed about going and hanging out. at the yoga yoga studio. I was going to. say yoga parlor, but that makes it sound. wrong. Well, if if they do my hair, I. might give it a shot. Uh, but. essentially, you know, when you. typically yoga is there's a lot of women.
who do it. I would say it's more popular. amongst the women. And you got to be. really flexible. And I think just a. normal dude who goes in there, he's. like, "Ah, you know, I've got a bad knee. because of some tendinitis back in my. basketball days, and I'd like to get in. there and work it out, you know, work. the kinks on my knee out with some yoga, but I'm just a little embarrassed about. going in there and wearing a a tight. fitting thing with a bunch of women. wearing tight fitting things." I I can. relate to that. But what are you what. are you getting at? There's a discovery.
along these lines or something. two guys. in Massachusetts. It's a state in the. United States. Yoga is very very awesome. there. Apparently, they sense this need. and they came up with something called. Broga. Get it? Yes, I I get it. I'm kind of I'm. rolling my eyes internally, but yes, I. do get it. Broga is a yoga class geared. for men where it's okay if you can't. touch your toes. A lot of guys come here. after years and years of sports. See.
what I was saying? But their bodies are. out of whack. Some have cement shoulders. or really tight hips. Many guys would. rather go play tennis or sport. What it. says? Or just as a verb or just sport in. general because it feels like exercise. Cement shoulders. Boy, if I had that, would I know it? Because well, that was. my nickname in high school. I feel like. I would know it. Cement shoulders. Here. comes old cement shoulders. First of. all, we made a video where we invented. new yoga poses. There were no women. involved in the production process. And. I don't even know if any women have ever.
watched the video. A few. A few. I'll. link in the description. But then after. that, uh, in an episode of Commercial. Kings, uh, which originally aired last. summer, now you can watch the episode on. iTunes. We went to Sacramento to a hot. yoga studio. Yeah. And Yoga Loca was the. name of it. And made them like crazy. yoga. A commercial. But as with every. episode of Commercial Kings, before we. could make the commercial, we had to do. the research. And of course, part of the. research at a hot yoga studio is to do. it. Now, explain to them what hot yoga.
is because it's not just yoga. Well, it's yoga in a very hot environment, hence hot yoga. And the idea here is. there's this guy, I don't recall his. name at the moment, but he still Yeah, Bickram. Yeah, you're good, Link. Uh, he. I am good. He has a studio here in Los. Angeles, and he came up with this years. ago, but he basically it's a series of. poses, I think 26 poses that you do in a. very hot environment. And the idea is. now when we're talking hot, we're. talking 115 degree hot. Yeah. Yeah. Way. over 100°. And it's not just hot, it's.
humid. And the idea is that you begin. profusely sweating. And the set that you. the set of poses lasts 90 minutes. And. you do the same set of poses. 26 poses I. believe over 90 minutes every single. class. Now, we did not last 90 minutes. You know, we just went in there to kind. of get a taste of it and get some. footage of us doing it. About the length. it took for us to get out of our street. clothes and into gym shorts and t-shirts. is about how long we were actually in. the 115° room. But I remember stepping.
into that room and it's like stepping. into a sauna and but then you have to do. stuff once you get in there which means. that it sucks if you ask me. Well, I. remember going into the hot room and. beginning to do a little bit of yoga and. you know how I am. I can easily get kind. of caught up in things. And I remember. thinking, I could really get into this. And meanwhile, the cameraman's in there. and I look over at uh the cameraman and. of course we had a camera and then there. was another guy covering us. And I look.
over at him and he's sweating so much. off the front of his head onto his. camera and I'm, you know, I'm, you know, we're making a television show so I. don't act concerned. I'm kind of looking. out of the corner of my eye. He's. sweating into the camera and lo and. behold, we find out 30 minutes later, camera's out. Camera's broken. He's He. sweated the camera to death, people. Yeah, this is serious business. Hot. yoga. We went to only audio after that. The rest of the episode is just straight. audio, but it's riveting audio. Becomes. a podcast. You stood over me filming me.
and you you dripped sweat into my mouth. and nose. That was unintentional. I'm I. It was gross. I repeatedly apologized. for that. I don't appreciate you. bringing it up. It was nasty. But I was. inspired. Okay. I was inspired. And not. only that, I went by sweating into my. nose. No, I was inspired by the whole. experience. And then I go to and I Well, I just sweated into Link's one of his. orififices. Boy, I'm inspired. And I get. I get a massage on my anniversary.
vacation with my wife and the woman is. massaging me. Not my wife, but my wife. is in the room. It was a couple's. massage. Don't don't get any ideas. And. she's like, "You have a bad back." And. I'm like, "Tell me about it." She's. like, "You need to do yoga." And I'm. like, "Yeah, I've heard about yoga." She. said, "You need to do hot yoga." I was. like, "I just made a TV show about hot. yoga. This is a sign. I need to go do. hot yoga." We get back to Los Felas. where we were living at the time. You. thought it was a sign? It was a sign. Yeah. And I said, "I got to go to this. thing. I go to So, I go to yoga class. I'm actually one of the guys who. actually did it. I show up at this class.
there. It's so packed. There's like 40. people in there. About 38 of them are. women. There's like me and this one. other dude who looks like he should be. in the broa class also, but he's there. with me. Now, were you in the front or. the back of the class? That she said, "If you're new here, get in the back.". Well, if you haven't noticed, I'm a very. tall individual, and I'm very, very. long. And so, about 14 minutes into the. class, we begin embarking on a few poses. that involve sticking your now sweaty. appendages out over into other people's.
areas. And I'm just like, I realize that. here I am. What did I just sign up for? What I signed up for is getting into a. room, beginning to sweat, and then now I. wasn't sweating into your mouth. I was. like, my arm was like sweating onto this. other sweaty woman that I didn't know. and this other sweaty woman that I. didn't know. And I'm accidentally like, you know, coming in contact and I'm. excuse me, I'm sorry. You putting your. arm around her? Not intentionally, but. this class is it's a small place and. we're like right next to each other. I'm.
embarrassing myself. Well, yeah, you. are. I went to first of all about 45. minutes into the class I said either I'm. going to to have to leave because it's. so hot and I'm so out of shape or I'm. just going to have to quit. I just quit. and laid there for 45 minutes. So. everyone's looking out of the corner of. their eye at the dude who died. Well, and the really tall dude just died. And. the girl teaching the class comes. She's. like, "Are you okay, sir?" I'm like, "Yeah, I'm just taking a break. A really. long one for the rest of the time that. we're going to be in here." You probably.
thought you said that, but really. probably all that came out was. and sweat. Fast forward three weeks. I'm. a a bit of a regular now at this point. Okay, I'm in like my sixth class now. The the second class I went to, I. noticed there were a few other guys. there and they almost they had on like. bikini like almost like bikini underwear. and nothing else. Ah, nothing. Not even. a shirt. No shirt. And I'm in there. I. got like my jams on essentially, you. know, like I got shorts down to my knees. and I got like a t-shirt. I'm like I'm. not six classes in.
I'm joining them. You're in your. underwear? Well, I'm in like a pair of. shorts that are very short. I'm in a. pair of shorts that are like right here. Well, where where did you get those? Did. you buy them? I bought them at a yoga. store. You're kidding me. You want me to. go get them? I got them. No. And I do. not want you to wear them. I have yoga. shorts. Gosh, I didn't know. I mean, they're not. like bikini briefs like the the other. guy had. But you said they were right. there. Well, they're pretty. I mean, they're like right in here. Gosh, horrible. There's box of briefs. I mean,
and I got to tell you, the only reason I. quit going to the class is because we. moved to this area of town and there's. not a there's not That's not the reason, right? The reason is that you don't care. about it anymore. Just like with. everything else, I've still got the. shorts. I've still got the shorts. I. don't want to hear any more about the. shorts. You're not interested in hot. yoga anymore. We could get it really hot. in here and just do it in here and I'll. work from another facility. I mean, I'm. not going to be in your presence where. you're in boxer brief sweating. profusely. You've already sweating to my. mouth and nose or if I think that my.
point is if you're a guy and you want to. do yoga, just do it alone. That's my. point. This Broga thing is just some. opportunity for some dudes in. Massachusetts to make money. I think. just you want to do yoga, just go to the. class where all the rest of the people. don't be intimidated by the fact that. it's a bunch of women. Just go in there. and say, "I'm going to change the face. of yoga. I'm going to put on my. underwear. I'm going to go in there. I'm. going to sweat on other people. It. doesn't have to be hot yoga. I will say. that when I went to the Dominican.
Republic and I was wearing my board. shorts that there were all these people. sunbathing. Uh women were wearing hardly. anything. And the men were just wearing. speedos. And I said, "You know what? I'm going to do it." And I just got down. into my underwear and sunbathed for a. couple of days. Really? A couple of. days? Well, over a couple of days. Yeah. Went in the Dominican Republic. I didn't. have I didn't have a speedo, but I had. like some, you know, some briefs and I. just I just got out there and wore.
those. When in the Dominican Republic do. as the European tourist? Yeah, it was it. was it was weird. I'll never tell anyone. about it. Yeah. I mean, yeah. At least. we don't release the show to the. internet because the things that we've. talked about today would surely cause us. But you weren't there and I never wished. you to be there. My wife was there. End of story. It's about flexibility, man. I'm I I feel good. All right. Now, we have to arm wrestle. People wanted us. to thumb wrestle for the longest time. Now, we probably need to move this out of the.
way. This is going to be difficult. because get over there a little bit. Jason, you can you can pan that way. This is like the internet talk show. version of sliced along over the top. This isn't going to last long. I'm going. to I'm going to obliterate you. I wish I. had on a short sleeve shirt so I could. show off my gun. Listen, there's no like. as soon as I get down, you try to You. have to count down. Yeah, you can count. down. And your elbow has to stay on the. table. Just don't break the mic. Ready when you are. One, two, three, and then we go. Well, I.
thought I thought that was it. All. right. Okay. Go. Two, three, go. You started yet? Nope. Not even trying. Started yet? Are you really trying? Are you Are you. really trying? Are you really trying? You're cheating with the wrist thing. Hold on. You're holding on to the thing. You're putting all your weight into it. You were holding on to the table, man.
What's up with that? No. No, I'm not. Look at how you're leaning. You're. sweating to my mouth. Hot yoga for the win. All right, mythical beast, you know what. time it is.
