Making Nightmare Restaurant Orders
- Should restaurants charge more for complicated orders? - Let's talk about that. (singers vocalizing) (upbeat whimsical music). Good Mythical Morning! - America is the land of custom orders. You want that without cheese? You want to swap out whole milk for oat milk? No problem. - But there are definitely people. who push that liberty to the limit. I mean, how many customizations are just too many? - And how much should you pay.
to cover for the inconvenience you're creating? - Yes. Now we're gonna recreate. some of the wilder, convoluted orders ever placed. as shared by restaurant workers all over the internet. - Corner. (orchestral music). - [Mikayla] Hi, guys. - Yow! - Hello. - [Mikayla] All right, your job. is to rank these crazy restaurant orders. from least to most unreasonable. and assign an appropriate annoyance fee to each one. - All right. - [Mikayla] But before you can judge them,
you have to make every order yourself. - Okay. - Okay. We are willing to do that. - [Mikayla] You, what? - I'm willing to do that. - [Mikayla] You're willing. to do that. - Yes. - [Mikayla] Okay, is that 'cause I told you to do it or-. - No, we got nothing better to do. - [Mikayla] Okay, great. It's your show. All right, the first order was shared on Reddit. by user SkullBoyProduction. "Was once a Starbucks barista. If you don't know, the refreshers are a juice concentrate. that is watered down with either water or lemonade. because they are very sweet.". - Okay.
- [Mikayla] "We had a regular who would order. a Trenta berry refresher, 16 pumps of vanilla syrup, and 16 scoops of berries. No water, no ice. I struggled one time to not make a face. when she bleeped. that her drink didn't have enough berries in it.". - Sugar fiend! - Okay, so... - What? - The base is this juice concentrate right here, right? - [Mikayla] Yes. And that's correct. - So that goes in there.
No water, no ice. - [Mikayla] No water, no ice. - Count to 16 with me, friend. (crew member laughs). Okay. - Two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, six... 15... - Always make them wait for the last pump. Always make them wait for the last pump. - Don't say that a third time. - Always make them wait-. - Don't say it a third time. - For the last pump.
My uncle told me that. - 16 scoops of berry. - 16 scoops of berry. So you got to somehow- - So these are dry... - [Mikayla] Yeah. - Little... Oh, man. That's a good form. of berry. - It came back-. Man, that strawberry didn't want to go down. - [Link] I got to go little- - [Rhett] One. - [Rhett and Link] Two. Three. Four. Five. Six. Seven.
Eight. Nine. 10. - No! Always make them wait for the last scoop. - That wasn't the last scoop. - Make them wait for the last scoop. (crew laughing). Thank you. Okay. Is this what it looked like? We don't have any video. evidence of it. - We don't have any photo. reference, so yeah. - But I feel like if you push it down. and then you know what? Actually, here, put the top on it.
- And put the top on it. And what? And what? - And now hold that-. - Hold the hole? - Hold the hole and tip. - Hold the hole. - [Rhett] And tip. - [Link] And tip. - [Mikayla] Do it over the bowl, over the bowl. - Over the bowl, over the bowl, over the bowl. Oh, look at that. Is that what they do? Oh, and look, there's a little-. - Leaking. It's leaking. That's the air pocket. Okay. - Ooh, look at that. It's like a '70s. moon thing. - Lava lamp.
You can take a sip. I don't need to take it. You can take a sip. - You don't want to... - I'm watching. my blood sugar. - 'Cause I put my finger. on the hole. - [Rhett] Yeah. - Woo, good God, that's horrible. It's just-. - But they do a lot... Here's the thing. - So much sugar. Come on. Whoever you are, don't be who that is. - But they do a lot already. If you're working as a barista, my observation is that you're already working hard. You're already doing a lot of stuff. Like, just doing the regular stuff is already a lot of work.
A few extra pumps, is this annoying? Yes. It's an annoying order. Is it drastically different. and above and beyond what you typically do? I don't think so. - Having to count to 16 twice. - It's above and beyond normal, but is it, like, way above and beyond? - I don't think it's gonna be... - It's not in the top three. - [Link] I don't think so either. - There's got to be something that's easier. How much do you think you would pay for that just already? - Yeah, what's the price of it,
Mikayla? - We don't know that. - [Mikayla] We are looking it up. One sec. - [Crew Member] You guys. made me look crazy when I went in to order it, and I spent 20 bucks on all this. - You spent 20 bucks? - [Crew Member] On this drink. - Okay. Okay. So it's already $20. - What? - So they're paying a lot. They are already paying quite a bit for the inconvenience, but just another $10 at least. - 10%? $2? - Well, that's 50% if I-. - I know. - So you said just another... No, no. This at least a 30%-. - You were trying to say it was not... All right. - $6.
$6 more. - [Link] All right. Plus $6. - Okay. I think we've done our job here. - Well, no, we just started. - Oh, we got to do more. This portion of today's episode is sponsored by Zocdoc, helping find the right doctors for you. - As you can see, I can't see that well without my glasses. And every so often I have to get new specs, which means going to the eye doctor. - And I go to the eye doctor a lot as well. for a completely different reason, for my dry eyes. - I know this because he made me watch a video.
of his doctor squeezing his eyelids, and I will never be the same. - Mm-hmm. Well, Zocdoc would have been a great tool. when I was looking for the right eye doctor, because they have more than 150,000 providers. within 200-plus specialties across all 50 states. - Looking for doctors, it's like navigating a maze. They got to take my insurance. They got to be in my area, and they actually have to have availability. Zocdoc helps you with all of that. - Most of the available appointments.
happen within one to three days. and some are even available the same day, which with eye problems is super important. - Good point. Zocdoc has tons of reviews from real patients. and doctor profiles. so you can make sure you're finding a doctor. that meets your preferences. - I really like my eye doctor, and I got to go write him a recommendation, although I bet you he's already got good reviews. - Add to it. - The site is free to use and saves you so much trouble. - It's free to use? - It is. - Uh-huh. Taking care of your health just got easier. Scan the QR code or go to zocdoc.com/gmm to get started,
and check that appointment off your to-do list. - And thanks again to Zocdoc. for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. (orchestral music). - [Mikayla] Your next order is from user AlbinoGiraffes, and they shared in AskReddit thread. "I previously worked at a wing shop. Guy calls in and asks for 24 mild traditional wings. He then proceeds to ask for them to be fried twice. He also wants them covered in Mexican shredded cheese,
put in the microwave for 30 seconds, drizzled with mayonnaise, and wants his side of fries placed on the wings. rather than in a separate container. Finally, he requested. to have pickle juice squeezed lightly. across the top of everything.". Oh, edit. This is a later edit in the post. "Forgot the best part. He demanded the wings be in a pool of mild sauce, which was just short of overflowing the container.". - Screw this guy. (crew laughing).
- Unless he's onto something. - [Mikayla] You are onto something. - This is the thing. I don't care how good this is. I'm gonna tell you right now, this is stuff that you could do at your house. - [Mikayla] Agreed. Agreed. - [Link] But you're-. - [Rhett] This isn't stuff. you get a restaurant worker to do. - So let me take these fry. I mean, frying twice, that's... - You got to pay for it, but okay. - That happens, right? - Covered in Mexican cheese and put it in the microwave. Well, I feel like I might need to do that first.
Why don't you cover it in Mexican cheese. and before you do that, should we put all the sauce over them? - No. - He demanded the wings being in a pool of mild sauce. when it was just short of overwhelming the container. You kind of want the sauce. to be almost overwhelming the container. and then put the cheese on, right? - Yeah? - I kind of think. that might be what this guy wanted. because the sauce is the first thing to hit the wings. Get them all over. - [Link] Said it was on a bed of sauce. - [Mikayla] Spread it around. - Now hold on.
What did you say? On a bed of sauce. - [Mikayla] A pool. A pool. - Well, I think if you want it. to be in a pool of sauce, you also want it on the wings, and then you want it to be so overflowing. - [Link] I want to make the man happy. - [Rhett] I don't think that's possible. - That's probably... - Almost overflowing? - Yeah. - Okay. - And now... - He says covered in Mexican shredded cheese. - Would a wings place even have this cheese? - [Rhett] I don't think they got it at Wingstop.
I mean, I don't know. - She said wing shop, not Wingstop. - [Mikayla] Yeah, wing shop. - Okay. So there's that. I mean, melted cheese over double fried wings. - [Rhett] Yeah, I'll be right back. - You're going to a microwave? - [Rhett] How many seconds? - [Mikayla] 30. - You know, putting things in the microwave. and melting cheese over them, kind of my thing. Okay. And this is the same microwave that I have at home,
so I don't even have to really think about it. I think all you have to do is hit 30 seconds. Oh, it's not the same microwave that I have at home. Cook time. Oh! Oh! (breathes deeply). Now I'm nervous. Oh! Oh! And start, start, start, start. I don't know why that was so hard, but I'm pretty good at knowing exactly. when 30 seconds are up.
And I don't count in my head. That's not what I'm doing. I know that right now it's sitting about 20. And then, you know, you just like, "What was that?". You have a little conversation with somebody, and you're like, "Oh, we're already at 15. We're halfway there.". And then you kind of just, you twirl your thumbs a little bit until you get down to 10. And then you just think about something, have a thought about something you want to do. And then you three, two, oh, it's close. Okay. 30 seconds. That's barely melted, but that's what the man asked for.
The idiot. Don't blame me that these are not very melted. - We saw you struggle. - You said 30 seconds. - [Mikayla] We saw you struggle with the microwave. a little bit. - [Rhett] Yeah. I had a little trouble. - What happened? Put it over here. - I have one that's like it at my house, but also different than in that in my house. - So, what's the next thing? Drizzle mayo. - [Mikayla] Drizzle mayonnaise on top. So just do like a, yeah, nice little swirl. - I mean, this is something. - [Mikayla] Fries on it, too. - Just fries on top.
Okay. He's angry. (crew laughing). I'm not angry because I think this could actually be good. - Squeeze lightly on top of everything. Okay. I'm gonna honor this fool's request. - How do you squeeze pickle juice? You sure it wasn't a lime? - Well. (crew laughing). - [Mikayla] Yeah. (laughs). - [Crew Member] Oh, man. - [Crew] Oh! (crew laughing). - Sorry. - [Crew Member] He said lightly. - Lightly. Okay.
Okay. Okay. All right. I'm mad. - If you don't have the ingredients to do things, that's really gonna drive up the price. - [Rhett] And then you just got to go in. - It's certainly built. as if there's not bones in it, you know? This needs to be eaten with a fork. - What am I supposed to do now? - [Mikayla] Eat it? - I mean, all these things are great. Mm. Even the pickle juice.
Mm. (crew laughing). - I mean, it does taste good. - Loaded cheese fry wings. We should put this on the menu. - I mean... - At Wingstops and shops all over the place. - I stand by what I said. This is something you do at home. - As comfortable as I am making people uncomfortable, I just don't think I could bring myself to do it, which is saying a lot. - When it feels like it might be a prank, you got to start really charging. So do we have, like, an estimate. of how much this whole meal would cost at a place.
like Wingstop? - Oh, God. - [Mikayla] So at Wingstop, like, 20 wings usually costs 27.99, and then an order of fries is five bucks. - And that was 24 wings. - [Mikayla] Yeah. - So it was a little bit more, right? - [Mikayla] A little bit more. - But I find myself wanting another one. - First of all, I just think we have to call. that irrelevant. - Yes. - Because if you were working at the wing shop... - Right. - That's who we're thinking about. We're not thinking about the food-. - There has to be a deleterious...
What's the word I'm looking for? I mean, I came up with deleterious. (crew laughing). - Yeah, just stop there. There's got to be a deleterious. - It has to be a deleterious. - My favorite kind of car. - It's got to be, you've got to punish with the price. to the point where he doesn't come back and do that again. - So first of all- - [Link] Double it. - How much more do you charge him for double frying? That's at least $5. - I'm just saying double the whole thing. - You think double the whole thing? Because if we were at 30, we're saying plus 30.
- Yeah. And then it's like, whoa, I just doubled the price. It feels visceral to him. - So there, plus 30. - [Link] So we're at plus... - [Rhett] How do we get salsa on our thing? - You did that when you weren't looking. - I do want another one, though. - Me, too. - But I'm not gonna get one. - I am. (orchestral music). - [Mikayla] User CoffeeMystery. shared in an AskReddit thread: "I used to work at a burrito joint. Somebody ordered a burrito with bean juice, but no beans.". And they have a photo of the receipt from the order.
- Okay. Chicken burrito, guacamole, no beans. One shrimp burrito, no beans, bean juice, no beans. Hey, that's proof right there. - [Mikayla] Yeah. - It did happen. - [Mikayla] It did happen. - Bean juice, comma, no beans. - So I guess they had to type that in there. First of all, I bet you there's not a bean juice, no beans button. So take that into account. - [Mikayla] Right. No beans. - The way you're going to get... Well, I think bean juice might need to be the last thing. - [Link] Yeah. I'm just...
- [Rhett] You're just looking at bean juice. - Just looking at the bean juice for a sec. It's... I don't know. If you like the juice but you don't like the bean, it's possible. I could get that. - Okay. - It could certainly be me. I'm not saying it's me. I'm saying - [Mikayla] If it's you, it's okay. We love you anyway. - How much shrimp do you like. on your shrimp burrito? - Less and less with the cholesterol of it all. And then some of this salsa, not too much of that.
- Right across the top. A little bit more. - Little bit more, yeah. - Now, bean juice. - [Link] Bean juice, no beans. - I'm a bean lover. This feels like a rejection of the bean. Mm-hmm. More. The man asked for bean juice, and it was a man. - I mean, I want to taste the bean juice. - Look at that. He's putting bean juice on a burrito. and tasting bean juice at the same time. - And dripping it in the salsa. - It's like Chef Boyardee. (crew laughing).
- I think bean juice is good. It's quite viscous. - I'm sure it's good, but we need more. - More, huh? - [Mikayla] Juice it up. - [Rhett] And one more. - [Link] Yeah. - If somebody asks. for bean juice, I'm gonna give them bean juice. Okay, now, let's see if I can remember the proper technique. that they do at these places. - Grab and pull. - Whoa! - Ah, oh, touching an individual... - The bean juice. (crew laughing). - Shrimp is coming out. - [Rhett] This tortilla, y'all. - [Link] Oh, you're blaming it on the tortilla?
- Well, I mean, look, that's not my fault. Okay. All right. - It might be the bean juice's fault. Now cut that in half. - It's almost, like, it just gave us a nice little cross section. right there. - [Mikayla] Automatic. - A wet burrito is a thing, but it's typically from the outside getting really wet. - [Crew Member] Oh, God! - Maybe a little bit more. What are you doing? - It's your shrimp burrito. It's your favorite. - Oh, you're trying to serve this to me?
- Yeah, I had a little bit. It's just, like, the best of both worlds. I mean, beans and shrimp. - I know. It just needs a little bit more bean juice, though, if I'm gonna-. - [Mikayla] There's a bean. There's a bean. - Oh! - [Crew Member] Don't eat that bean. (crew laughing). - It's not good. - I think the juice. is the best part of the bean, right? - I highly disagree with that. - I respect this. I think this is within the realm of no charge. - Well, because you're probably charging for beans,
but not having to give any beans. - [Link] Mm-hmm. - And they end up with a bunch of bean juice. at the end of the day. - It's a weird thing to ask for, but the only additional motion. is instead of going deep into the beans, you're pushing down on the beans for a sec, making sure that none get in there, and then you're drizzling. - So we're gonna say $0? - I mean, that's what I want to say. I think it goes over here, which I'm gonna let you put it over there. - Well, I think I'm just gonna put the bean... - Oh, put the bean. - Just beans.
- Do you want to put the beans? - Actually, just a bean juice. So here, put the shrimp in here. Okay. Now just bean juice. - Okay. - Bean juice. - Okay, okay. All right. - Bean juice. - All right. Bear with us. - I got a bean, got a bean. Okay. Now that goes up there. Bean juice. - [Link] I mean, is this crazy? - No, I agree with your logic. Oh, hold on. What about having a title, bean juice, no beans in? (crew laughing). One cent. One cent. We want to remind you to check out the latest episode. of "Last Meals" with Mythical Chef Josh.
- It's over on the Mythical Kitchen channel. (orchestral music). - [Mikayla] This next order. is from a TalesFromYourServer Reddit thread. User Yasuka said, "A customer ordered poke over rice. This lady complains that her fish is raw. and sushi rice cold. She made us microwave the whole thing. until the fish is cooked and rice hot.". - No, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
- So hot poke. - Notice that they had to microwave it. because poke shops don't have an oven or a stove. They just have a rice cooker, and that's it. Now this says, "She made us microwave the whole thing. until the fish is cooked and rice hot.". So does that mean we're gonna put the cold ingredients on it. and then microwave the whole thing? - I think so, because she complained that the fish is raw. and that sushi was cold. So it was made, she tasted it, she complained.
She said, "Warm this up.". - I like the way you're thinking about this. I don't know if it's true, but I like it, because I want us to put the whole thing together. and I want to go back in there. and figure out this microwave. - She made us microwave the whole thing. - That's what it says. We're only going by the text. Link, however you would like to assemble this. It's on your side. Feel free. - I don't... - Usually the way to do it- - You know why. you would go to a poke shop. and then be disappointed when you got poke, but maybe you're with somebody who loves poke.
and you want to be there for them. - It can happen. Some people love it. - Does poke-. - Yup. Have seen better days. - Yeah. I'm going to have to clean them. But I mean, they really do it like this, right? It's kind of a-. - [Rhett] Yeah, yeah. You mix it later. - [Link] You do that yourself. - [Rhett] Exactly. - [Mikayla] You're arranging. that so prettily. - I wouldn't do that whole thing of wasabi. But why not? Why not? - Just put it right there on the side, you know. It's all there. My favorite thing about poke. is that you can allocate each bite how you like it.
and that it's warm. That's my second. favorite thing. - Now I might be gone a while. I got to cook this fish. All right. I know how to use this microwave now. So I'm gonna put it in there, and I'm going to do cook time. and I'm just going to go up, up, up, and then I'm gonna start it. Okay, now I'm gonna put my head right next. to the microwave so I can make sure that I get the effects.
of whatever microwaves are. and however they affect your body. - The thing that I'm feeling. is that, like, all of these people could be me. (crew laughing). Yeah. I mean, not that I've actually done any of this, and they're talking about me, but... I mean, there was a time when if I was dragged. to a poke shop, I would have done this. - It's definitely cooking. It's definitely cooking, but I think I can wait here for a second. Oh, did you know that we are on the Keurig here?
Did you know that? That's crazy. Oh, "Last Meals," too. Our Keurig is branded? - Those chicken wings are so good. I think I'm gonna have to start ordering this. (crew laughing). - Oh! That's pretty much cooked.
Did you know that our Keurig is branded? It has pictures of us on it? - Yeah, pretty cool, huh? I wouldn't call that branded. It's just something I think you can add a picture. - Here you go, Link. This is cooked. That fish is pretty well cooked. - I just order my poke bowls without the fish. - So you just get bowls? - Yeah, I guess I do. I get some spicy tuna and I get shrimp,
and I get crab, but I don't get... - Spicy tuna is poke. - I do get that, but I don't get any of this chunky fish. - [Rhett] That's spicy tuna right there. - But it's also- - Fully cooked. - Brown. - Fully cooked. - And hot crab. I do want a little bit of it. Hot cuke? What's hot cuke? - Oh! - Oh! What's the... - Oh!
I gave you a cuke. - Oh God, I just don't-. - Oh, that's a hot cuke. - I don't want any of this. I keep trying to find what I think is a good bite, but that's not possible. - You're not going to find one. All right. This is what I'll tell you right now. This made the people in the poke shop, the workers, suffer. when they had to put this in their microwave. - [Link] Yeah. And everyone else who's in there. - The microwave is not for this. The microwave is for them to use for other things. that they bring, right? It's not made to put your fricking bowl in there.
- This is gonna be- - So this is an immediate. double price. - Yeah. We got a double deleterious. - Yeah, we got a deleterious. Now- - Plus 30 for this. By the way, I was eating more of that. That's good. - I mean, the fact that this tastes better than that, not only is this offensive to ask somebody to do, its final product is offensive. This is not an offensive final product. So we got to move this down. - We got to move it down. - Plus that 30. And listen, I don't want to have to make you erase anything, so just put plus 300.
- Okay, well, I could change the three to an eight. This is kind of reasonable. - Hey, you're smart. Plus $80. (crew laughing). Okay. (orchestral music). - [Mikayla] This last order. was shared in an AskReddit thread by user Semifila. I think that's how you pronounce that. - Doesn't matter. - [Mikayla] "We had a homemade clam chowder. Customer loved it, but asked if we could pick out the clams.".
- Really? - And as far as we know, this is not just intended to make us mad. This was a real request. - They've given us two bowls. We can see who can get... - Well, I'll tell you, first of all, if you're getting rid of the clams. because you're allergic to it, this is not gonna do it. The clams have marinated in this thing. And now I got to figure out how to get just the clams. and not the potatoes. - [Link] I hate to say this. - [Rhett] That's potatoes. - But I kind of get it.
I mean, especially when the clams are that big. - Well, it's easier than I thought it was. - I mean, those are big clams. - It's easier than I thought it was. Look, I mean, I get clam every time. Like every time. Oh God. - A lot of clams. Oh gosh, look at it. - Look how many clams I got. - [Link] This is some high-dollar clam sauce, but I don't want to get rid of that potato or that potato. - I thought this was going to be enraging. - Typically, the clams are just that size. - But it's kind of fun. - But if it's a really good restaurant clam chowder,
the clams are my least favorite part. I mean, my version of this is eat the clam chowder, but then, like, manipulate the clam part. and just got to spit it into a napkin or something. - Yeah. Keep that to yourself. - But I wouldn't ask them to do this. - Right. You have some standards, but let's taste it. - Oop. Got rid of that. Didn't mean to. - I believe this is just chowder in taters.
- Well, there's a piece of clam. right there. - Clam essence. - Clam, clam, clam. - [Crew Member] Who's that? (crew laughing). - Clam right there. - Oh, I still got clam in that one. - I keep getting... - There's little clams. - I know. - You got to go. for the little clams. - It's impossible. - I don't think you can get a clam-less bite. Oh, that's full of clam right there. - Clam piece. Clam bit. - Mm. That was half clam. - It's impossible. It's an impossible request. - It cannot be done.
It's offensive on many levels. - Clam-less clam chowder. - Like, if we were to actually fulfill this request, in actuality, take the extra time. to go through every clam bit by clam bit. to get it completely free of clam, we'd be here another hour. We'd need a microscope. - We'd put an intern on it. - Okay. Yes, we would put an intern on it. But here's the thing. We got one spot open, and it's got to be more than $80.
if we don't want to erase anything. And I'm not trying-. - I mean, we could put. an intern on it? - I'm not trying. to be lazy here. I'm just saying that this is offensive. Like, I went in there and microwaved that fish. and came right back and that was over. - But they're the same level of offensiveness. You're ordering the thing. and then the thing that makes it the thing. is the thing you don't want. - Yes. - That's just stupidity. But the amount of work, asking an impossible task,
you got to get an impossible price. Put it at number one. - This has to be priced in such a way. so that it never happens again. - You're talking about super deleterious? - Super deleterious, maybe mega deleterious. You have put chalk on my knee twice. So, all right. - I mean, you put a lot of stuff on my pants today. - What? I think we might be talking quad digit. - Oh. - Yep. I can hear 1,000 being written.
- And I broke that, and I make it into a sad face. Look at that. - $1,000 mistake right there. That is the most offensive thing that you can do, given all the options that we had today, is to take all the damn clams out of clam chowder. - And your third eye is closed. (crew laughing). - I don't know why you made it spiritual. - Because they can't see.
- They need to open themselves to clams. Thanks for being your Mythical best. - You know what time it is. - Hi, I'm Olivia. - Hi, I'm Ava. - We're from Austin, Texas. - And for our 18th birthday, we just got matching "I'm a thoughtful guy" tattoos. - [Both] Twinning! And it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. - Hey, you're 18. You can do what you want. - I think tattoos are cool on other people. - Yes. - Did they both get that? They said matching, right?
- I think so. Well, I'll go back and watch it again. - Okay.
