Learning to Lucid Dream
I had a lucid dream and you were there. Me? I'm Kirsty from Scotland. Let's talk. about that. Good mythical morning. Today's episode. is brought to you by. retinlink.com/store where you can buy. merch, including the rub some bacon on. it t-shirt. your friend's having a. problem, you just point to your shirt. and. say, "Rubs of bacon on it." Thanks for.
supporting entertainment and for buying. stuff associated with us. We appreciate. it. And you know what? We appreciate you. just watching this. You don't have to. watch this show. You don't have to watch. it every day or whatever. But we're glad. that you do. We do this for you and for. us. I mean, we we do it for us. Let's be. honest. Mostly for us, but then some for. you. We do it for all of us. If you like. it, we're doing it for you. It's like a. family and us. It's like a commune. Yeah. It's This show is like a potato.
that we grow together and then we eat a. little bit and they eat a little bit. Way more than one potato cuz that. wouldn't go very far. We make a potato. together every single day and then give. them a little bit of it. We're. communists is basically what I'm saying. And time to come out and say it and high. in starch. Okay. I That's also what. we're saying. I've been uh trying to get back into. lucid dreaming link. Now, we talked. about this. I don't think it may have. been on good morning or good uh morning. chia link, the previous morning show we.
had, which was essentially the same. morning show that we have now. Um but. essentially, if you don't know, lucid. dreaming has become much more popular in. the culture because of the movie. Inception. But basically, it means you. recognize that you're dreaming. you know. that you're dreaming and then you begin. to control the dreamcape and the things. that happen in the dream. Lots of kids. can do it. Lots of people could do it as. kids. They could fly and that kind of. thing, but then you lose that ability as. an adult most often. And so you have to. become intentional about it. So if you. if you're in if you're dreaming and you.
realize that you're dreaming while. you're still dreaming and for example. say something like, "Oh, since I'm. dreaming, I might as well fly over this. crop of soybeans." Yeah. Soybeans are. very prevalent in dreams. In my dreams? Yeah. Anyway, it it's really interesting. stuff and I've read a couple of books on. it. I'm just, you know, how I like to. just read about random things and. discuss them on Good Mythical Morning. So, in that same tradition, we're going. to talk about that today. because last night I had a lucid dream.
This is the second lucid dream I've had. as an adult since I've been trying to. induce lucid dreams. Now, now what. briefly, what was the first one? Uh the. first one was the first time I looked. into lucid dreaming probably over a year. ago and I was walking inside a house. that uh was under construction which is. for for me for some reason is a common. thing that I What did you control? Oh, I. I realized I was dreaming and I was. like, I got to fly. And I started flying. and then I got excited and I and I woke. up, which is actually very common for.
people who were beginning to lucid dream. because you realize that you're. dreaming. You get excited about it and. then you wake yourself up with. excitement, which incidentally is. exactly what happened last night. I was. dreaming and like many of my dreams, Link, you were there. I think this is a. sign that we spend too much time. together, first of all, but I guess we. have to continue to make these potatoes. to give them some of the potato. That's. right. That's right. Could you could you. lucid dream a potato factory? That would.
be a horrible lucid dream, but yeah, I. think it could probably be done. I think. that's called a field, by the way. Potato factory. So in this particular. lucid dream which was even shorter than. the first lucid dream and and first of. all the experts say the way that you. induce a lucid dream and once there's a. lot of things that you can do but one of. the things that you do is you just read. about lucid dreaming before you go to. sleep. You just go to a website that. talks about lucid dreaming. You you so.
it's kind of on your mind and you're. more likely to do it. And there's some. other things you could do like reality. checks and I'm not this isn't an episode. about lucid dreaming. This is an episode. about this dream and some other dreams. I've had because So I was there and what. happened? A big part of dreaming is just. journaling. So I've got I've written. these down. So the first thing I don't. even have to look at my dream journal to. tell you what happened in this one. Mhm. I was talking to you. I don't remember. where we were, but I was talking to you. having a conversation and I just thought. to myself, Link, this is a dream. And I. said it to you. I said, "Link, this is a.
dream." And then I said, "Link, this is. a dream." And I got so excited I didn't. believe you. I woke up. I mean, that was. it. I I I've got to get to a point. Oh, no. That's not a lucid dream. You didn't. control anything. No, we're not talking about dream. control. We're talking about lucid. dreaming. Lucid dreaming an awareness. An awareness that you're dreaming. And. that's the first step to then. controlling your dreams. So, yeah, I was. about to do something. I don't know what. it was, but I I couldn't get over the. fact that I realized I was dreaming. And.
I've been thinking about it all day. yesterday, re reading about it and. thinking about it and and and all of a. sudden it happens and I get too excited. But but you're not blaming it on me. I. think it could have something to do with. you. I mean, should I remember it? Well, first of all, I journaled another dream. that happened earlier last night again. And this one actually starts with. editing a video with Link. We are. arguing about it. This doesn't have to be a dream. I mean, could be real. How sad is this that I'm.
dreaming about editing a video with you. and we're arguing about it? But did we. accomplish something? Because you could. harness that conclusion. I leave and go. to my parents house. You stormed out. like a little child, which is very. telling. When I realize then I realize. that we So I won is what you're saying. I won the argument. I don't know. I just. left. Well, I think whoever I thought it. could be resolved later. I think whoever. ends up at their parents house sulking. is the one who has lost the art. You. don't get to take credit for things that.
Dream Link does. First of all, you need. to understand it wasn't you. It was. Dream. It was a a figment of my. imagination. It wasn't really you. Well, I'm glad to know that at least your. perception of me and Dream World is as a. winner. If you want to begin to take. credit for things that Dreamling does, I'll I'll read my dreams to you every. morning. It's fine. I don't care. It. makes you feel better about yourself. Of. course. It's great. So, in this one, you. apparently won some argument about a. video that we're editing. I don't. remember what it was. And you went to. your parents. I left Sulking. You went. to my parents house. At which point I. realized that me and you have our.
final test at Haret Central High School. in 33 minutes. The test that we have got. to take in order to move on to the next. stage of life. So I had actually. reverted back to high school because you. know we went to high school recently and. did all the shows there. You remember. that? We went to high school recently. We That's funny because I can tell you. about my dream at an appropriate point. Well, let me finish cuz this is I should. have realized I was dreaming at this. point, but then I begin to try to text. you. First of all, we were editing that. video at Jeremy Fischer's house because. I just had to go down the street to get. to my house. Weird note. You were right.
there at Jeremy Fischer's house. But. then I'm like, I got to text Link and. tell him we totally forgot about the. final test in order to graduate high. school. Classic. And so I bring up the. text field and I'm like in the two field. I try to type link and I cannot do it. It comes up in all these weird. characters and I cannot get your name. and I try like 20 times and I cannot get. it. Now, first of all, I in in the. reading I've done about lucid dreaming, I've learned that in dreams, screens. don't make sense. If you look at your.
watch, if you look at your phone, if you. look in a mirror, something will be. wrong. You won't be able to do simple. mathematics in a dream. These are weird. things that are all consistent across. almost all people. And so, I should have. realized when my phone was. malfunctioning at such a. to such a degree that I was dreaming, but I didn't. I woke up in frustration. just thinking about trying to text you. But that could have if you had if with. proper training that would have been a. trigger to then move it to lucidation. And then I would have realized, ho ho. ho, this is a dream. I'm not in high.
school. I we don't have a test. Let's go. do something awesome. And nothing. against you. I probably wouldn't have. been editing a video with you if I could. make a decision because I do that. anyway. You could I would fly edit like. figure out how to like hover an editing. suite that flies with you. Yeah, that. would be pretty awesome because because. still engaging in work in dream world. could could lead to solutions that. otherwise would never have come to. fruition. That's my goal. My goal is to. get to a place where I'm actually.
working while dreaming so I can just. sleep during the day. Well, really? Yeah. I haven't Did I say. that out loud or dream? We're going to. come into work and just both nap. Well, you have to cuz I'm in this. You got to. continue to work. I I love to nap. Yeah, sure. Sleep during the day. Work nap. You sleep during the night also, but. actually work in the dreams. All of my. dreams are anxiety dreams. I would I I. would love to have a breakthrough in. this area so that I could turn it. You. know, when you wake up, like you said, I. had you wake up and you can't convince.
yourself that what you were so stressed. out about isn't true. I had the classic. dream, too. It was related to u you know. spoiler alert this this goth thing that. we're working on which is coming out. shortly and you know our friend who was. our director on commercial kings Daniel. Strange was in the dream and we were. supposed to deliver the final which we. have to deliver it and I realized that. we didn't know it but that it was a. musical presentation on a stage. Oh. okay. So, we had been editing a video, I. guess, but then when we show up, it's.
like, hold on, why are people doing. these weird musical presentations and. and now we have to do one of those with. like and I tried to invent an instrument. and get up there on stage and I was. like, oh my gosh, I haven't prepared any. for this like a and we have to do it. right now. It was more of like a flutish. type. It had lots of holes in it and I. was I guess I was kind of formulating. it. Yeah, you were dreamscaping it. I. was dreamcaping it, but I wasn't lucid. dreamscaping it. But it was all about. just the anxiety of and I don't even. know why I'm anxious about it because I. feel good about it and you'll see it.
before too long because you want. everyone to like it. You want everybody. to like it. But I guess there's so much. pressure associated with what we do that. maybe we could start to deal with that. in dreams. Strangely that my dream is. kind of related again. You were there. another one. We are at the. NCAA some sort of convention for the. NCAA. This is the National Collegiate. Athletic Association. I think that's. what anyway it's like college athletics. in the US. And so we are supposed to be. giving a presentation to all of the.
people in the NCAA at some really fancy. place and we're dressed up and we have. to get up there and we're supposed to do. like something about sports humor, right? Which we're great at. And so. we're in this group and we're talking to. these high up officials in the NCAA. Mhm. And I say to them, we are the. associate vice presidents of the n of. the NCAA. That's what I tell them. And. then one guy who's with us leans in and. says, "Yeah, Click and Clack division.". Click and Clack. Click and Clack are the. the hosts of Car Talk on NPR. But it was.
what it was for me. It was Click and. Clack sort of represented like internet. or something. It was it was almost like. we were the the internet NCAA vice. presidents or something. Inferiority. And I had some inferiority about it. because I'm like, "Oh yeah, we just do. things on the internet and so we're not. as good." So there was some inferiority. there. Then Michael Jordan shows up and. I'm talking with Michael Jordan and I. ask him, "Hey, hey, the basketball. player." I'm like, "I'm from North. Carolina. I went in went to NC State.
That's cool. Can I get a picture with. you?" And he looks at me, he says, "Man, you don't need a picture with me.". Really? Yeah. I couldn't even get a picture with. Michael Jordan. He said, but he said you. didn't need one. Like you're No, no, no. But you know, he's Michael Jordan is. kind of a notorious jerk. It was more. everyone. I don't need a picture with. you is what Michael was saying. You. don't need a picture with me, man. I was. so disappointed. So many disappointing. things happened. It's like a Jedi mind. trick. You need no picture with me. Yeah. So anyway, I'm going to continue.
to try to lucid dream and I'm going to. continue to try to have better dreams. Maybe Link will come on board and have. good dreams also. And. I'm really spun that. I'm already on. board, but I In your dreams, I just need. to probably have my own. Yeah. Yeah. You. need to have your own dream. Let's have. separate dream lives. We just need to. get to a point where we can have dreams. that we're not in each other's dreams. Or can you not be in your own dream? Yeah. Yeah. It's like an observer kind.
of thing. Sarcastic ending for this. episode of Good Mythical Morning. Uh this is it has been so awesome that. you guys have joined us for this. I you. know I think it's great that you decide. to watch this. I mean I'm sure you're. getting a lot out of it. Yeah. I mean in. terms of entertainment. There's. absolutely nothing else that you could. be doing right now than watching a. couple of guys just talk like for 10 to. 12 minutes every day. Ah, come on. Give. me a break. Yeah, you you don't feel. like a loser. No, not at all. Neither do.
we. You know, we should, you know, at. some point we should probably end this. But you know what? That would be too. satisfying. Probably. Yeah, we shouldn't. do that. Yeah. So, I'm not going to end. it. I'm just going to keep talking like. this to you. Sarcastic remark until you. feel the way that you should feel about. yourself. Another sarcastic remark here. [Music].
