International Soda Taste Test

Where are these international sodas from? Let's talk about that. Good Mythical Summer. That is right. Woo-hoo. It's Good Mythical Summer up in here. We're doing the whole summer out here in the forest. Mm-hmm, because this the hemisphere we live in. Yes, look at this. We, we've set up shop out in the California Redwood… Are those Redwoods?

They're- Uh, I think, I think- … you know, just forest I think this might be a, uh, a cardboard wood. Okay. Yes. As you can see, we've got the tent that we've been sleeping in, and will be sleeping in all summer together. Everything in here is highly flammable, which is why we have an open flame. Uh-huh. Just to keep everything, um, warm. At the end of summer, we're gonna burn all this down. Yeah. And then to put out the fire, we're gonna pee on it. Yeah. Which is a practice. What you're supposed to do. Which is a camping practice.

Tell… You wanna explain the bear bag? There's a bear in there. Yeah. It's a very little bear. No, you, you gotta put your stuff up. If you got food and whatnot, when you're camping, you gotta hike it up into a tree because bears. are smart, but not smart enough to get to it. They are hungry, but dumb. Yeah. All summer long, we'll be here for you every Monday, Wednesday and Friday with just the right dose. of summer vacay to get you through your day-day.

And that's not all. The Good Mythical Summer charity competition is back. Mm-hmm. Which means every time we compete against each other over the summer, the winner will. earn a donation for their charity of choice. A win for me will mean a donation for the Reading Is Fundamental nonprofit. And I'm not gonna ever win. That's not true. You- No, no, no. I'm gonna win … you did a, w- very well last year. Every time I do win, and I will, so will the L.A. Regional Food Bank. We're gonna tell you more about these amazing organizations in a little bit, but let's start the game.

Now, Coke is the first soda that comes to mind for the average American, but we've probably never heard of. whatever sodas come to mind for people in New Zealand or Mozambique or a third example of another country. It's time for Where in the World Do These International Sodas Come From? We'll be. guessing where these sodas come from by throwing darts at this effervescent map. Chase will measure our darts to determine our points. Looking good. Ciao.

It's me, Chase, the pop star cartographer. Oh, wow. Look, he's sequined. Pop. Is that a onesie? Pop. Pop. Does it go, does it go down and- Or is it just a tank? I, I don't wanna talk about it. Okay. I think it, I think what he's … I think it does go- It's a singlet … it goes underneath. It's, it's a singlet, and you're gonna take your pants off and show us at some point. It makes me feel very confident, but not when you talk about it. All right. The winner of each round will earn $1,500 towards their overall charity total.

That's each round. Every round, so- I like that … this is a way to make sure that we all get some money to our charities. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. And then the overall episode winner will in, uh, win an additional $2,000, okay? We gonna be racking up the funds. And you know what? Let's go ahead and add $2,500 to both of our totals right now. Judges, can we do that? Bram, bram. Yeah. Okay. All right. All right. Let's taste. Oh. That was a quick dink.

That was a ding. Hmm. I thought it… It's kinda Sprite-ish, but then it gets weird. Something happens. It's like Sprite with flowers. Flowers? Like the first taste… It's, it's soft. Mm. It's soft. I think this is why they call it a soft drink. Oh. I've never thought about it before. 'Cause it's, it's like- But it's so soft on my tongue. Feels like I'm drinking round liquid. Oh. I mean, that is how they made, that is how they came up with the name, right?

Or is it because it's the opposite of a hard drink, which is liquor? That's probably it. But soft drinks feel soft on your tongue. Especially this one. Mm-hmm. That might be the softest drink I've ever had. Who goes first? Because, I mean- Oh, last time we tied. We tied. Well- The first time this ever happened. Last time you did tie, so outside of right now, whoever had soda the most recently I think can go first. And because you both tied, you can both have an advantage when it comes time for it.

Well, did you have your pre-bedtime Topo Chico last night? Actually, I didn't. Oh. You mean my Menoragua. Oh. I did not. Well, I- And if you call that a soda… I had a, like a, a, an apple crisp Olipop. Mm-hmm. Oh, you did. Not a sponsor today. Uh, at 7:00 PM last night. That's weird. No, it's the perfect time. Okay. Yeah, it's not, I mean- Why is that, why is that a weird time? 'Cause that's when I'm getting ready for bed.

I'm trying to move it up. Summertime, you know, you gotta go to bed early. Okay, so you're saying that I- I'll go first then. H- hold it. Did you say the person who's had it most recently goes first? Yes. So Rhett can go first. Okay, oh, I go first. Oh, oh, well then you shouldn't have wanted that. Okay. I, fine. Uh. I don't even know how to categorize this, and so therefore placing it… I feel like. if it was from Mexico it would be more fun.

It's not a strong flavor, but- It would be more fun … you know Mexico does that, like- It'd be s- … Mexican Coke. I think it'd be sweeter and I th- don't think it would just be clear. Iceland, they might want you to think that it's coming off of the, uh- Glacier … the glacier. Is that what you're thinking? Yeah. But did they have carbonation up there? If it helps, I found that they're called soft drinks because they're the counterpart to alcoholic hard drinks. I know that, Carney. Well, you didn't say that. You acted like you didn't know it. And then we- Yeah … that's it.

He did say it, but he did act like he didn't know it. Yeah. He was conjecturing and you confirmed it. Yeah. I, you know, my middle name is Conjecture. I really feel like you guys are on the same team. I don't know why, why there's all this animosity. He just proved me right. Carney, you were, I appreciate that tidbit. You got it, buddy. Cheers. All right. I recommend Falkland Islands. You know that they can do that now. I think that this is, uh, this is a s- place that likes subtle flavors.

And I have never been to Austria, but I assume they like subtle flavors. Oh, you went high. Golly. Summertime. You know what they say, when tall boy goes high, shorter tall boy goes lower. Okay. But not low. I think it's Cambodia, because it tastes Cambodian to me. Explain. I don't know how we would get a Cambodian drink up in here.

Shipping. Okay, that's fair. Um, y- I think it's Mexico. Probably a boat, actually. I just changed my mind. I think- I think it comes by boat … I think, I think round one, we're starting out. It's like you know about Mexican Coke, but do you know about Mexican Sprite? Oh, that might be true. And I'm gonna split the diff here, right there. Okay. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm. No ties today, Chase. You just had 7Up salty lemon.

7Up. Mixing salty lemons with lemon-lime sodas like 7Up has been a popular drink order in this country's. cha chaan teng-style cafes for a long time. Uh-oh. Eventually, 7Up caught on and decided to capitalize on the drink's popularity by. bottling their own pre-mixed version in China. Oh. Oh, so close to Cambodia. What? What? Look, oh, that, look at that bottle. Grip it. Look at that. It looks like somebody already did grip it. Oh. Hey, now listen. I've never- I'm gonna come out of a choke with a laugh every time now.

I've never considered a bottle sexy, but look at those curves. All right. That is a soft drink. I'm the pop star, call me sexy. Rhett, you had 31. Link, 41. Ooh, dang it. So Rhett, that means you get $1,500 for reading it fundamental. Yes. Yes. It is fundamental. Bow, ba-ba-bow, ba-ba-bow, ba-bow, ba-bow, bow. Golden bev. You thinking what I'm thinking? Did you say, "Are you dinking what I'm dinking?" Well, no. Well, but that's a T-shirt.

Yeah. Uh, are you thinking what I'm thinking? Probably not because- I just thought it looked like carbonated urine, okay? That's what I thought. Oh. I guess we were. See, I knew we were thinking what we were thinking. Carbonated urine. It tastes good. It's, um- It's also soft. It's very tangy fruity. Um.

Yeah, it's almost like a citrus. It tastes international. As it should. Doesn't it? Doesn't it taste like something that you wouldn't have in the US of A? If you told me this was Red Bull, I would be like, "Wow, this is the best Red Bull I've ever tasted." Oh. It's colored like Red Bull. Right, which is colored like pee. There's no way this is, this is Red Bull though. Too good. It might be a type of Red Bull, 'cause the last one was a type of 7 Up.

I am losing by 10 centimeters. Mm. Which means you have to go first. But what would our advantage be? You said we both get an advantage. I s- I do see that we have… Some ties. A bow tie that says, "We tied the knot.". No, it just says, "We tied," Link. Yeah, 'cause you guys tied, you each get these we tied ties. But we didn't get married. And these tie ties will be put into some sweet Thai chili sauce, and then you can throw them at the map. Wherever that sweet Thai chili goes- Sweet Thai chili … that's where I'm gonna lure you from.

Thai. Thai, Thai, Thai. And we can use it in different rounds? You can use them whenever you want to. Uh, yeah, you don't have to use them at the same time. I'm gonna use it now. Why not? Fine. I mean- Go for it … especially going first. I like that. 'Cause I kinda wanna dirty up the board. All right. Well, if I use mine, are we gonna use. How are you gonna tell the difference between my thai chili sauce- Exactly … and Rhett's? Exactly. We have different color thai chili sauce?

I'm gonna cover up your advantage. Oh, you're, you're pointing at a glove. You think I wanna glove up for this, Blaine? Huh? Yeah, I probably should. I probably should, Blaine. Why? If you get chili sauce on your hand, what happens? Rash. Rash. You don't want me to have a r- hand rash all summer long. Sharing a tent with me, I got a hand rash.

It might spread to you. I don't know how rashes work. You can't spread poison ivy from one person to the next. Um, mm. Unless it's oozing and they have an open wound. Right. So there's a certain- Which is pr- I mean- … type of intimacy there, I think- Yeah, which is. pretty unusual for that to happen … could work. This is a soft tie. It is a … I noticed that. Everything's soft. It's like T-shirt softness. Yeah. Everything's so soft in there. Everything is so soft. You know, I looked it up. They call them soft ties bec- Never mind. Yeah. Oh, no, buddy, tell me.

The counterpart to the hard tie. Yes. The hard tie. Okay. Um, I'm just gonna aim at the most countries. Okay. The … This is gonna probably require some cleaning, but I will just- Not do it yourself. Oh, wow. Wow. Okay. That was- That- That wasn't too bad. That really made a sound of spreadage. Look, I got down there close to Argentina, which is great.

And then did I get … I don't know how far east I got. Did I get to the Far East? You're close to China. Okay. I am also gonna use my- No. Hold on. What are you gonna do, Chase? Hold on, hold on. It, it, it- I'm gonna negate- It'll be impossible. I'm gonna negate everything you did. I don't think you can also, I don't think you can also use it. I think this is a one round at a time thing. It … Yeah, it's gotta be. 'Cause I gotta wash the board. It's gotta be. It's gotta be. So my only opportunity here is just to minimize … I just have to be- Perfect … I have to be.

right, and I have to be as close as I can get. Mm-hmm. Nothing about your spatter should influence me otherwise, I don't think. Don't be influenced by my spatter. I think this is Red Bull I think this is a, when I was in Thailand, the birthplace of Red Bull- … they. had all different types of Red Bull-esque sodas. Is it the birthplace of Red Bull? Yes. And I think that Cambodia- How did you know that? is as close as I'm gonna get, and I'm going hard for Cambodia.

And if you get there, you'll be closer than me, I think. Yes. Here we go. No compromising. Little low, though. Oh. Okay, come on now, Chase. Come on. You've just had Rivella- Oh, no … a soda made from milk whey, AKA the liquid byproduct of cheese and yogurt. Since first being introduced in 1952, Rivella has become one of the most iconic sodas in Switzerland.

Oh, I'm in it. Oh. I'm all over it, baby. Cambodia. Look at Rivella. Rivella. So the, it was a byproduct of- Cheese and milk and what'd you say? What? That it, it is strange. Milk whey product. Milk whey product. This looks like it should be in Cambodia. Rivella. Rivella. So is it good for you? Is it, like, fermented? It's not an appetizing looking bottle.

I don't know that. It's medicinal looking. But Link, you had 36, and Rhett, you hit Switzerland. Yeah. Which means you get $1,500 for Reading Is Fundamental. It is. It really is. Ba ba ba bum ba ba bum ba bum ba bum bum. Wow, look at the view out here. Thank you for turning around so I could see the back of your T-shirt, Link, which. is part of the Mythical Parks collection. Very excited about this. We basically have just out of thin air created a national park called Mythical. National Park, and we have multiple products.

We've got the handshake tee. This is like an arch, you know, like the big natural arch, but it's handshake. It's hands. And then we've got the, uh, we call this the morning tee 'cause this is a morning scene. with two trees that represent me and Link. And then we've got- Check out the twilight version … this, this is the so- society exclusive twilight tee, so you. gotta be a member of the Mythical Society to get that. And then look at this. I'm not gonna put it on, but just imagine it on. That's a good little camo hat. We got the camo hat. We got some real tree happening.

Yes. We got the two trees. And if you get a hanger, you can do this. You can plump your… Oh, yep, you can do that. You can do this. And you don't even, you don't need to go to mythical.com to do what Link is doing, but you do. have to do that to get the clothes that we're wearing. Yep. And we will. Oh, more sodies. Is it okay I dinked it for us? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, a little pre-dink. Uh-oh, prune juice. Wow. It tastes and smells completely different.

It smells like vinegar. Prune, it smelled like prune juice once you said that. I have prune juice on my writer. Oh, yeah. It's vinegar. It's a vinegar. Hmm. It's like vinegar and Coke mixed. I bet it's good for you, for your, for your GI. I'm sure it's good for you. Yeah. That's what I was thinking when I- Yeah … looked at it, smelled it. Um… I don't hate it.

My body is fascinated with it. No, I like it. But where do they do this? Might they do this in Iceland? You know, when you're up there on an island like that, I've never been to Iceland. I've always wanted to go. A lot of geothermal activity up there, Link. Yeah. I just feel like the people of Iceland, they're up there, it's dark a lot, they're listening to Bjork a lot. Uh-huh. Uh, things start going a little bit crazy in your brain.

Yeah. And you think that you need to put vinegar in your soda. Just, just to spice up your life. Just to light up your life in the darkness. Yes. All right, Chase is in the tent. He's gonna take a nap again. He's, yeah, yeah, yeah. I- We let him sleep in there during the day. The day. That's right. And we sleep in there during the night. I don't know what he does at night. I think he tries to get into that bear bag. That's what happened. Okay. Uh, so I'm gonna say s- uh, Iceland. Not a bad guess. Woo. I'm so high.

Oh, God. Don't clip that. What? I said, like, Tal Bachman one-hit wonder who sings She's So High. Oh. I'm, I'm in with all the pop stars. Tal- What? Tal Bachman? He knows them all. Tal Bachman. He's like a virtual Touch Tunes machine back there. How did you, how did you know that, Chase? Like, yeah, 'cause he's a, 'cause he's in with the pop stars. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, vinegar, kombucha-esque, I thought that was just an, like a, an Erewhon thing.

Okay. Ah, but you know all these, like, fun teas and drinks- Fun teas … that, that are good for you? Mm. Come out of Argentina. You got the, the mate down there. It's a- Name another one. Um, bla-te. Okay. But that's real far down there, and if he's Iceland, then I am- Yeah, but if it's Argentina- I'm in a defensive mode.

you, you closed the gap, brother. You gotta go big or go home. I have my advantage. I, I just, I can't go that big and I can't go that home. Where are you going? I'm going, I'm flirting with Argentina. Okay. Let's see what happens. All right, he's gotta get out of the tent. Can I just say, I love that you guys have all your darts going in one direction.

Thank you. Thank you. Test, test, test. Oh, hey. You just had Senorial Sangria. Oh, sangria. A sangria flavored but non-alcoholic soda. Well, you shouldn't be surprised to find this at your local taco truck in LA. Yep. Your place of origin is a bit farther away in Mexico.

Oh. Okay. I'm all right now. You're pretty close. You're pretty close. I, my dart placement actually helped me, I think. Sangria. I guess it tastes like sangria. Rhett, you had 37. And Link, 20. Oh. Which means you get $1,500 for the LA Regional Food Bank. Yes. You need a catchphrase for when you're getting money. Food's good, something like that. Food's good. On. the heels of winning that last round, $1,500 is going towards the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank thanks to me.

Since 1973, the LA Regional Food Bank has worked to mobilize resources in the community to alleviate hunger. Their goal is that no one goes hungry in Los Angeles County. That is a nice goal, because I believe in people not being hungry. Yep. What was your thing about breeding is fundamental? I say it's fundamental. I … Food, food's fundamental. No.

No, don't take- I think you should say, "It's regional." It's, it's regional. Yeah. That's good. Looks like the one from a couple of rounds ago. That's refreshing and different. Whoa, that's got layers, friend. Describe your lay- the layers. Well, first there's a smell, and I don't know why I want things to smell fl- uh, floral today, but it does. Then… I think it smells fruity, but… Got a bite to it.

It's still soft. But it's- But it has a sourness to it … sour. A sourness to it. Um, hmm. And it's light. It's, um, it's a light bite. It's a light, sour bite. Almost like a crisp apple. It might be apple. Okay. I'm catching on you, but I'm not catching completely on you.

Hmm. You're still going first. Light apple bite. My heart is taking me to Cambodia. 'Cause of the sourness of it. It feels like something they might slip into a soft drink over there. Let me slip into something- I am over Cambodia … more comfortable. Something a little sour. That's Cambodia talking. Hmm. Slipping into something a little more comfortable, a little more sour, but I don't wanna co- over-commit to. Cambodia, because it's the only country left over there on that side of the world that we haven't done yet.

So I'm gonna kind of, uh, split the difference between that and Austria. Oh, go- I took- What happened? It hit my hair, I think. I heard something as my- I think … as I threw. Your hair just did you a big favor, because I was thinking Spain. Oh. Well, maybe I'm really connected to you today. You know a Spanish apple? Yeah, uh, uh, my- Crisp, light … my favorite types of apple. Yeah, yeah.

A nice Spanish apple. You really- I'm done with Cambodia. You were gonna go Spain, huh? I, I'm gonna stick with Spain. I'm not gonna use my advantage, 'cause we got one more round and I'm trying to be strategic about that. I like being behind the entire game to be informed by what he does and then beat him. Yes, yes. It's a great, it's a great strategy. Why, historically. You did it to yourself. But now I got to really zone in on Spain. Ooh. Well, your, your dart barely stayed in the board. Why did it just dangle nastily like that?

What happened? This is like, it just looks so sad. What happened? You hit a fault line or something. Well, yeah. Did I break it? You just had Almudler an herbal lemonade that was, uh, first bottled to be a one-of-a-kind. wedding gift to its inventor's wife. Soon after, the drink was made available throughout its entire country of origin, and today it's. affectionately known as the national drink of Austria. Nice. See, you got so lucky to get so close to me.

Yeah, I'm so close to it. I don't, I mean, you definitely did well, but I don't think it matters much. Yeah. That's a beautiful can. Look at that can. Look at that couple dancing on the can. Oh, man, I can't get this. I mean, I love being entertained by a can. They're dinking and hugging. Ah. They're dinking and hugging. It's the national drink? Almudler, the national drink. Rhett, you had 11, and Link, three. Impressive.

Top of the international charts. And that's another $1,500 for the LA Regional Food Bank. It's regional. Yes. The charity that I'm playing for is Reading Is Fundamental, the nation's leading children's literacy nonprofit. They focus on disrupting the US literacy crisis by inspiring the joy of reading in children, which is a. critical element to driving the frequency, motivation, and engagement needed to create skilled readers. It's fundamental, as I say. But not regional.

No, no, I mi- I think mine's, uh, you know, national. Ooh, smell of that first. Whoa. Licorice. Licorice, my friend. What the stoup? Ooh, taste it. More licorice. Oh my God. That's how the fans move at my concerts. Oh my God. Uh, when are you playing next, Chase? Uh, tonight. Yeah, there's an open mic night. Oh, come on. Okay, yeah, right. This is the worst soda.

Mm. Do you love it, dude? I like it 'cause it's punishing me a little bit. All right, you know what I'm gonna do. But you don't, you're not going first- Nope … bro. I need a glove. Let it, let it, let it marinate. Oh, yeah. Yep. Okay. Go ahead. So this is a mystery round, so it's not one of the ones up there. If it was, I would say Iceland because they like that licorice type of, um, licorice, salty licorice. Yeah. But because of the licorice flavor, I just have to think it's a European country.

I'm gonna need you and your wet bow tie to move out of the way for a moment. Well, have you, so have you decided? You're basically going for Iceland. I'm going for mainland Europe because I just, I know that they like to do that in some oth- in, like, Scandinavia is a place they like to do that. So I'm just going for mainland Europe. There's a high concentration of countries there, and then I'm gonna force you to make a decision. Ooh. Okay. All right. Not loving that. I thought that if I saved it to the end, he wouldn't know the region.

Well, I don't know. I'm just guessing. But that's, I mean, the licorice of it all, I just really think you're all over it. I need to try, I have to cover his area. I also have to try to cover a new area that would be, like, some other place that I think this might go. Where would that be? I'm just gonna get the whole board. Okay. Well, I'm gonna get out of the way.

A lot of America. Actually, that's a- A lot of North America. No, dude, you got all the way to China on the A side. But I did sling it across pretty good, so I'm happy with that. And Australia. That is- Happy with that … that was quite impressive, Link. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You just had Mauby Fizz, a soda made from boiling mauby tree bark with sugar and spices.

Mauby has been used by the indigenous peoples of the Caribbean- Oh, what? … for centuries to make all kinds of things from medicine- The Caribbean? … to refreshments. Yes. This carbonated refreshment in particular hails from Trinidad and Tobago. What? Oh, dang. You're all over it. What? You literally hit it with your tie. Yes, I just smothered it. Zero. Right there on it. Two millimeters away. What? I think you took it, man. I don't think I'm closer than… I don't think you're, I'm close enough to, uh, to win the, uh, round.

The t- total. So Link, we're gonna round, 'cause we have to, to one for you. Okay. And Rhett, you had 27. Oh. So I did it. You did it. I did it. So Link, you get $1,500- … for LA Regional Food Bank. Yes. And then an additional $2,000- Yeah … for winning the episode. It's regional. That's it. All right. Say it again. Say my catchphrase. It's, it's regional. It's regional.

Yes. You pulled it off. Okay. Hey, we're gonna keep doing this all summer. Remember, this is a Monday, Wednesday, Friday thing, so no new episode tomorrow. When you don't see a new episode tomorrow, don't freak out. Watch this one again. We'll be back on Wednesday. And in the meantime, thanks for being your Mythical best. You know what time it is. Hi. We're the Campbells and the Cliffords from Newnan, Georgia. We have some darts, a world map, and a whole bunch of sodas from around the world. And it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality.

And it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. And it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. The Campbells and the Cliffords. It's in for- When they get together, you better watch out … versus, ooh, yeah, the CC Party. All right. Think of a number between one and 10. Yes. 3, 2, 1. 10. 10. Yeah. That's right. Yeah. Why'd we do that? Yeah, you'll find out why we did that in Good Mythical More. I'll find out, too, I think. We get to try Dunkin's new Barbie menu items.
