International Coffee Taste Test

We're tasting coffee from around the world. Let's talk about that. Good Mythica Morning. Coffee is a vital part of our daily routines. At least mine more than you. I don't know, you, like, fluctuate in and out. of the coffee routine. I go into the tea time. And it helps us feel what one might call "normal". But a lot of the time, you know, we stick to the same things.

Coffee with a little creamer, a little latte, maybe a cappuccino, blah, blah, blah. Boring! But I bet there are coffees around the world. that know how to make things more interesting. It's time for... Where in the world. do these international coffees come from? Okay boys, to guess where today's coffee drinks. come from, you'll throw your darts at the map. and Chase, the coffee snob cartographer, will measure your darts to determine your points.

What kinda coffee are you having this morning? You can't tell? I kind of figured, but you know... It's very caramel-looking. It's a cafe latte from our Jura... thing. Okay. Wow, you're such a snob. You are such a snob. Such a snob. He uses words like "thing". And look at this. So, yes, also before you drink, note that, I'm sorry, Rhett won last time.

He throws first and, Link, you get an advantage dart. whichever round you choose. I'll tell you about it when you choose it. Okay. It has a lemon garnish. I've never done that. You ever put a lemon on your coffee? No. Here goes nothing. Oh, I'm not putting it in there. You're never supposed to do that. because there's all kinds of bodily fluids on the rind. Crap, dude. Yeah. All studies have shown that. So, I wonder... You're gonna get bodily fluids, now. Should I mix it first? I mean, look at this whole strata of whiteness down here.

I think you always sip first. Good golly, that is so strong! What is that? What the world is happening there? Woo! It's still sweet, though. I think maybe it does need to be mixed, Link. Oh, good God! Oh, look at all this cream at the bottom. It's like puddin' down there! That's what I was pointing out. You thought that was just the bottom of the damn... No, no, I'm just... ...Cup? I thought it was something that had... Oh my goodness, that is... I didn't realize it was gonna be so thick. I didn't understand the consistency of it.

That is some thickness. I think maybe we're ruining what we... Don't do what I did. Go down and take a spoonful. and bring it up through the coffee and take a bite of it. That's what I was trying to do. Here it is. Oh, I got a lemon too. What is this y'all? Is it cheese, maybe? Is it cheese? No. It's good, though. What is that? Mmm.

It's a very gelatinous cream. Good gracious. It's just a sugar... Lemon, though. I think there's something alcoholic. It's got a bite to it. This is an adventure. A little bit of liquor. There's a little liquor in there. Let me clean this up. Rhett, why don't you do the honors. of telling me everything you're thinking? So, I have frequented Miami.

Uh-huh, close to Cuba. In Miami, they do a thing called Cuban coffee, which, in my experience, is a small little thing of coffee. This might be giving you a clue for a future round. Please. That's very strong, though. Like, the strengths of this coffee is the thing. that I'm noticing. Because I would think, "Oh, there's a lemon in there. and there's this cream that's a little bit gelatinous.". That sends me into Vietnam or Indonesia.

But the strength of the coffee sends me back to Cuba. Never been to the Canary Islands. I've never owned a canary. and I've never had a friend that did. But they don't talk. So keep that in mind. Right. That's why you can have multiple-. I don't feel like I can completely commit to Cuba, but I feel like I can almost commit to Cuba... Come on, man. ...By committing to the Canary Islands. Also, I'm not really accurate at throwing anymore, so if I aim at Cuba, I'm probably gonna hit the Canary Islands anyway.

Oh! Woo! Alright, Rhett. This is Vietnam, dude. We're all over it. They have lemons. Yep, okay, check. I think, I mean... And that's way over there. Vietnam, Indonesia, is a very good guess. I'm saying the only thing that sent me to Cuba. is the strength of the coffee. The thing about Vietnamese coffee. is that they're not afraid to make it super sweet. Okay. In my opinion. And this is round one, I can always recover.

I don't need to hedge too much. I need to be confident... Yeah. ...That it says "Vietnam" right down there, right? Where, there? Mm-hmm. Oh, I never noticed it says that there. Oh! I didn't even mean to have a more cowardly throw. It just happened. You know what? It could be Turkiye. You just had barraquito, a multi-layered coffee liqueur drink. The layers are condensed milk, Licor 43,

espresso, foamed milk, garnished with a lemon slice. and dusted with cinnamon on top. This drink was created and still is served in... The Canary Islands, off the coast of Spain. Oh my God! What!? Are you serious!? What!? I've never even had a friend that has a canary, like I said! They don't talk! How did I even know that? I'm so angry! I had a friend one time who thought about getting a canary. and then we stopped being friends. You're such a... Such a what, tell me? You're such a lucky duck. Lucky duck?

Lucky duck! Hey, sometimes intuition bypasses the prefrontal cortex. Link, you had 28. Rhett, 4. Oh! Oh, the mustache reveal. It's Chase! It is me, yeah. Hi, guys. Guys, don't shoot the messenger, but I have been told that a lot is on the line. for today's game because the loser has to take a sip. of extra hot coffee.

So, physically, that will hurt. Hot temperature or hot spicy? That's a good point. No one distinguished that. So, physically it will either hurt your intestinal track. or the roof of your mouth. Yeah, my friend here really does not like. things being hot. He likes to check and see if the things are hot. Well, he better play good. That is a latte on the line. We got some layers happening here. This is green. It's got a green hue. I'm going deep.

Oh, this is also puddin'. Why are y'all putting pudding in so many things, world? I don't like how it kind of coagulates a little bit. I'm still having a hard time getting to it. Here we go. I wanted to think that it was green tea, but is it? Pretty good. It's not green tea.

I think there might be a tapioca thing happening. See, now that I've mixed it up, I have no chance of getting... Well, there's some green floaties here. Here we go. Green floaties. It's not green tea. It is more tapioca. And I have a suspicion as to... Could be avocado. ...What it might be. That's good, though. Avocado? It's not sweet. To me, a coffee drink can be good if it's not sweet.

If it starts off sweet, it's really tough for me to pull through. You've really thrown me with this avocado, Link. Well, you're way ahead with your luck. I hope it runs out. Huh! You know anybody who has had a canary? No, no, never. It's a shame. It's a real shame. I've known a few parakeet owners. That's a completely different type of person. Parrot owners, don't get me started. Yeah. They'll outlive you. You gotta put 'em in your will.

Boy, I wish I knew if that was avocado, 'cause that's a crazy thing to put into a drink. I don't know if it tastes like avocado. because you put the thought in my head. It really just tasted creamy. Avocado is creamy. 'Cause I would've thought that it was. maybe pistachio-based and then I was gonna go to Turkiye. But then when you said... It's not nutty. ...Avocado, it made me start thinking. that it was Argentina. I don't know what it is, but I like it.

I think it's Argentina, but it could be Turkiye, but I'm gonna go 2/3 of the way to Argentina, so I'm going in the Southern Atlantic. Ho! He's way down there. As long as Argentina is not the answer, the door is open for the Linkster, so... I mean, I really don't have a clue. There's not much in terms of taste coming through. It's not matcha. I mean, Argentina, they do a lot of tea down there, so...

It could be Canada. I didn't realize that Canada was a... Country? Yes. It's been a country for a while. ...Was an option up there. Ah, crap. But in order to stay in this thing, I've gotta hope that it's Turkiye. or something in that region. so I can pull ahead, or make up ground. Oh, that's too high! Whoa, wow! I mean, I just... Whoa, that's... You're in the Arctic, my friend. I'm disappointed. You're all the way in the Arctic. I've disappointed myself.

This is es alpukat kopi, which literally translates to "iced avocado coffee". It is avocado! But it's in Indonesia? Yeah, well, while avocado is typically used. in savory dishes in the US and other western cuisines, in this country, it's often paired with sweets. This beverage is made up of blended avocado. and condensed milk, regular milk, coffee or espresso, chocolate syrup, and sometimes topped with ice cream,

and you can find this unique drink in Indonesia. Where Davin is from. Stevie, you sound just like him. Yeah, you're getting really good at that impersonation. See, if I would've done what I wanted to do... You could've really made up so much ground. I could've really helped myself. You're a lot closer, but... Alright. Rhett, 49. Link, 38. Wow. Not good enough, Link. Yeah, you didn't make up enough ground.

Watch this. Yes, my pin is glowing! This is the, "As You Can See, We Can't" pin of the month. Yes, it is glow in the dark. It features... It's us as bats, dude. ...Your boys as bats. Bat boys. Bat boys, bat boys, what you gonna do? You're gonna go to mythical.com... Uh-huh. Because it's spooky season. Spooky season. Get this thing and spice up your Halloween times. Today only, right? Today only?

Today only. Today only. Today only. Pin of the month. Ah, thank you for pre-dinking for me. It's a taller glass. Doesn't have the layers. that we've come to expect from the world. No, there's no... I was gonna say there's no puddin'. What? You're react... You're not... I'm a little sensitive today. You are sensitive to coffee. Yeah, how does it feel to be next to a sensitive man? It's strong. It's good, I feel like I could be alerted to anything.

Mm-hmm. Any dangers or whatnot. I think it would be very useful. Does it make you feel a little bit... To be next to a sensitive man. ...Disconcerted to be next to someone. who, every time they try something, they have a big reaction to it, or is it comforting? No, I think it's good information. that helps me in my life. Makes me a better person. My life. Well, there is something a little bit wrong with it. You have to admit that. No, no, no. There's something a little bit off. There's a bitter, bitter earthiness,

like maybe some bugs have been ground up and put in it. There's something in there. and I can't put my tongue on it. There's a choco-liciousness. A bitterness. I have no complaints. I really don't think it tastes like bugs. So that wasn't a complaint? Seven plus six is 14 minus one, so you're 13 centimeters ahead of me. That's an interesting way to do math.

Man, this could be anywhere. 'Cause there's something that makes it taste unfamiliar, and I can't even tell you the profile. But I like it and I'm gonna go there. whenever Stevie tells me where it is. I don't think that this would be Argentina. 'cause I'm not tasting something that... I'm not tasting any beef. Yeah. Well, if you're not tasting beef in your coffee, then you're... Not tasting beef tallow. ...You're definitely not in Argentina.

Maybe this is Turkiye. Maybe there's something that will be... some spice that will be explained. Turkiye... Oh, a little bit high. See how you went tall? Yeah, Turkiye is deflecting all the darts north. I gotta find the right dart here. This is Vietnam. Well, you said the last time Vietnam. with so much was confidence. I was wrong. I know, I'm gonna keep doing that. You said it exactly the same way this time. It's just really strong coffee. But I said that Vietnam likes to make it sweet,

but sometimes they don't. Do you know this to be the case? Mm-mm. Crap, crap, crap, crap, crap. I could use my advantage. You have a cheat. You do have a cheat. Matter of fact, I am gonna use my advantage, because... Okay, Link. You have today the, "Would you like whipped cream with that?" dart. Okay. Which you typically have been both terrible. and great with. Yep. Thank you.

I get the idea here. The great and terrible. The answer to your question, Chase, is yes. Well, don't be stingy. Don't be stingy. Don't be... It's a tough one, isn't it? Okay. That feel good? Want a little bit? Yeah. Mm-hmm. Rhett? Yeah.

I'm choosing it this round because the next one. is a free-for-all and the map names don't matter. So where are you gonna try to splat? It's just really good coffee. The entire map. The entire map. I think I can get the whole map. Oh! Stay on there for now. Yes. What? This feels like it's gonna go bad. Everywhere all at once.

I'm gonna do a splatter. and the splat is gonna take it out everywhere. I'm not gonna try to... Yep. I've learned my lesson. Oh! Come on, Canada! There are pieces of whipped cream. all the way to the east side of the map, so... This is my chance! I think that's a pretty good splat. You just had ca phe sua da. This drink is well known. for being incredibly strong and quite sweet. It's made with coarsely ground dark roast coffee, which is typically brewed into a cup of condensed milk.

and ice through a French drip filter and then mixed. Its English name, Vietnamese iced coffee, may be more familiar to you. because the drink is from Vietnam. I told myself! So, I think you did yourself a disservice here, Link. I did. Crap! Because you would've gotten closer with a throw. But there's some whipped cream there in... Yeah, there's a swipe right here. at the tip of that V. Yes, Lord! I think you've made up all the ground you needed, Link.

How did that even happen? Rhett, you had 24. Mmm. Link, 1. Oh, oh, oh. In spite of myself. Lemon again, Link. Lots of it. One, two, three slices down through this puppy. I don't like the idea of it. There's a place in Glendale. that serves a lemonade coffee. Well, you're about to have it. It was called, like, an Arnold Palmer type thing.

You're about to have it, my friend. This is exactly what that is. Woo! It's a lemonade and coffee together. I can't remember what they called it. They gave it, like... It was a fun name like the Arnold Palmer. Well, Glendale is in the United States of America. Mm-hmm, so I've given it away. It's there. There is something... You are in the lead, Link, so you have to go first. You have to... I'm almost liking it. It's not bad once your taste buds adjust to the lemon. I mean, it really wakes up your mouth...

It's refreshing. ...Before it wakes you up down south. So, yeah, this could be Glendale. I'm not gonna ask you to expand on that. This could be Glendale. Your bowels. Oh, you think this is gonna wake you up? When the coffee hits... This is like an enema, dude. Does it taste like it's whole bean or ground? 'Cause I don't wanna touch it if it comes from ground. Mm-hmm, I think it's ground, brah. Hey, listen, Mr. Chase. All coffee eventually has to be ground. That's true.

Chase, we can see through your mug. and that you're not actually drinking. I was cooling it down because it's really hot. Yeah, snobs don't drink, they just put their lips on their coffee. Alright, get outta there 'cause I am... I'm going for Glendale, this is America. I mean, I gave the answer. Yeah, you've encountered this in Glendale. Mm-hmm. I mean, mixing coffee with lemonade, it feels very American. There's a big Armenian population in Glendale.

So maybe I need to go with Armenia. Were you at an Armenian place? Where did you have it? Gimme more details, gimme all the details. A coffee shop on the corner, caddy corner to the bowling alley. Was it...? I'm going with the US. You can't fool me. Oop! A little south of Glendale. Okay, here's the conundrum. You're up by 10. That's right.

So I gotta be at least 10 closer to the right answer. It's not gonna be... I think if it's the US, you win. because you're less than 10 centimeters away from it. So what I'm gonna try to do is go 10 centimeters. to the east of you, hope that it's somewhere else. What's 10 centimeters? Woo! Woo! Man! That is a shock to the system. Well, when I do it like that, it's a lot further.

It's off the map, it's right there. Okay. 10 centimeters. So, basically I'm just gonna try to go in the Atlantic Ocean. and hope for the best. That's never been said before. Okay. Okay, Stevie. You just had mazagran. Mazagran may have actually been. the world's first iced coffee. invented back in the 1800s in Algeria. However, it was people from this mystery country.

that are credited with adding ingredients like lemon juice, sugar syrup, and sometimes alcohol to iced coffee. or espresso to give it a refreshing, light flavor. This coffee-lemonade came all the way from... Glendale. Glendale! Oh, yes! Yes! Are you serious? Portugal. I almost hit Portugal. I'm literally almost in Portugal.

I mean, almost in it! Haven't you been to Portugal? I have! But I didn't have this. I try so many things. Why go to Portugal when you could go to...? Go to Glendale. They also do serve this at Unincorporated Coffee. and there's a location in Eagle Rock and Pasadena, which both are not Glendale, but... So you might've been... I don't know what happened. Yeah. Me neither. You confused yourself. Link, you had 33. Rhett, 2.

You lucky dog, man. Hey, you set me up, man. This is what happens. Go to the races today. This is what happens. But you were seven away from Glendale. Yeah, that was a great Glendale throw. So now my mouth gets burned, huh? Yes. Or your butt. We don't know yet. We're gonna find out. Thanks for commenting and sharing this video. You know what time it is. Hi, we're from Augusta, Georgia.
