International Appetizer Taste Test
Where are these international appetizers from? Let's talk about that. Good Mythical Morning. All right. I wanna go ahead and get this out of the way. Yes, today is my birthday, but I don't wanna draw any attention to it. Right. And I definitely don't want anyone to make a big deal about it, okay? Okay. I said I don't want anyone to make a big deal about it.
All right? Or e- or even like a smattering of applause about it. Happy birthday, Link. Thank you, dude. Thank you. Don't make a big deal about it. Well, since it's your birthday, you know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna go easy on you today. Mm-hmm. Really? Nope. It's time for Where in the World Do These International Appetizers Come From?
We'll be guessing where these appetizers come from by throwing darts. at a map, and Chase is gonna measure our darts to determine our points. That's right. Hello, folks. Thanks for dining with us today. It's me, Chase, the appy, appy birthday cartographer, and a little birdie told me. that we have a birthday over at table one. Is that right? I, I just don't wanna draw attention to myself. But do you know which one of us it is? I think I've got a guess. Yeah, it's me, but, uh, I mean, don't give me any special treatment.
Uh, we might do a little something for you. All right. Uh, just, you know, I wanna make sure you've got a nice day, that you're enjoying yourself. I definitely don't want an advantage. Yeah, you know, uh, Rhett's gonna be able to throw first 'cause he won the last time, but you do get a special advantage, so just let me know whenever you want that. Okay. Uh, I'd like a little bit of a heads-up 'cause it's gonna take a little. time to whip up back in the kitchen. Oh. Okay. Okay. Would you like lime on your thing? Uh, sure. It's there. Just tell him when to stop. What is this, though? Well, it's a shell, and then there's s- Oh, whoa.
I thought it was a tortilla. No, I think it's like a scallop is what I would call that. I don't know. Oh. With, with… Is this cheese? Is this a cheesy scallop? I like a s- Oh, man … I like a scallop. Oh, man, that's good. So I'm gonna really scrape up some cheese. Is that what you recommend? Yeah. That is great, man. That is excellent.
The cheese is very… Sharp? Sharp. Woo. Look how purty. Would you call that a scallop? I've never seen a scallop in- Yeah, yeah, yeah … in the wild. I think it's gotta be. Or would you call it a scallop? I'd call it a scallop. What do you mean you've never seen a scallop in the wild? We're not in the wild. I've never seen a scallop in its, uh, container, i- its shell. I don't think, I don't think it's in… I don't, I think that, I think. that's just- Where do you think it is? On the side of a rock or something? It's in, inside of a shell, man. I don't know. We'll have to find out i- if this is an actual scallop, 'cause.
that's not what I thought either. Okay, I'm gonna go first, and I am going to eventually eat another one. of those, 'cause it was very good. Yeah, it was. Well, it's seafood. It's not freshwater. You're not thinking Uzbekistan? Yes, I don't think this is a landlocked country- Okay … Chad. Thanks for watching. Um- Glad they found you. That, the lime was sending me to Peru, but the cheese is Parmesan. Is it not?
I don't know. I think it's Italy. I think it's Italy, my friend. Oh, but he hit Chad. I hit Chad anyway. But it's good that you found him. Yep, yep. You don't wanna talk about Chad. Oh- Every time I hear the word Chad- Oh, oh, oh, you mean that Chad … I always. think about Chad that got lost when we went camping- Yeah, uh … and then we. had to stay in our cabins the whole time until they found him the next day covered. up in leaves, using them as a blanket. Yeah. Yep, they did. They found him, though. What a jerk. Yeah. Glad they found you.
He was great- I don't want that one … at Zelda. Not so great at finding his way in the w- He could find his way. arou- around Ganondorf's castle. Not so great in the wild of Harnett County. Is it… I, I think it, I think it might be, um, the cheese that you said. Now I can't remember what it's called. Parmesan. I really do think that's what it is. So I think, I can't go with Peru. That would be crazy, and you've left the door open.
Italy's wide open. So I'm gonna go right there. I feel a little restricted. Yeah, yeah. Well, I think it's good. I think it's good for you. Oh, yeah, I just lobbed it right above you. Birthday boy just did a little over the top. You just ate… Conchitas a la parmesana … a simple dish consisting. of a raw scallop broiled under a blanket of Parmesan cheese so that the cheese is. melty but the scallop remains mostly raw to showcase the fresh seafood of Peru. Oh,
no, what? Man, I- You were, you were right about everything and I did agree, but- I. went to Peru … I was trying to sent you o- send you off with a Parmesan. I didn't have Parmesan in Peru. I didn't know they had it. Ugh, birthday boy, you had 29, and Rhett, you had 30, so wow. Okay. Just pulling out ahead. Alright. Boom, boom, boom, bang. And Rhett, we found an Instagram picture of you eating a block. of Parmesan cheese in Peru. Uh, yes.
Yeah. Was I on the beach? Mm-hmm. Asleep? Oh, I know you're excited about this. Uh-oh. Oh, but hey, there's shrimp inside, Link. I like that. So you can just use… So there's a tomato stuffed with shrimp salad. That then goes on these little breadies. Then you put it on your flat crouton. Mm-hmm. I mean, I think the, the tomatoes are really just for the container of it.
Mm. You know, that's my guess. Scallops, now shrimp. Having a good seafoody kind of a moment. These shrimp are really good too. They're really small. Even the ones that are touching the tomato are still okay. Little baby shrimps. Isn't that cute? I don't think that they're baby shrimp. I think they're a species of shrimp that's small. I'm in the lead. I'm gonna go first. What's my advantage?
Can you tell me what it is? 'Cause that might impact my strategy. Your advantage is gonna be a dart sampler. What does that mean? It's gonna be, uh, a little tray, a little basket. Looks really pretty. It's well done by our, our chefs. Uh, and, uh, you can throw as many darts as you want from that sampler at the map. But you need to be careful because only the last dart that you throw actually counts. Oh, so you have to know when to stop. Mm-hmm. Huh. That sounds like a pretty good advantage. When I'm confident about my answer.
Um- You confident about this one? Uh, well, it's not Peru. So now we could go back to Italy. You got this ripe tomato just sitting there. Just gratuitous use of tomatoes. Who has so many tomatoes that they just don't know what to do with them, they just use them as containers? Could be Italy. I mean, it could be Portugal. You've been to Portugal. I have. Norway? I, yeah, I was gonna say, I, when I called ahead I did say that it was his birthday.
Okay. Sorry. Okay, I got a little something. So th- this is like a bruschetta but with shrimp. Happy, happy birthday. Today's your special day. You've lost this game the last three times, so maybe today's your day. You rhymed day with day? Thank you. You're very welcome. Yeah, yeah. I mean, hey, come on. Yeah, he's, he's, he works at a restaurant- Oh, your hands are cold, dude. Yeah, that, I, I was told that's how you like it. There's something special for your birthday. And I can definitely feel through this bike shirt.
Um, do I wanna use my advantage? I'm pretty confident this is Italy. I'm gonna use my advantage. Okay. He's gonna use his advantage. All right. Give me one sec, I'm gonna go back to the kitchen and get that ready for you. All right. Oh, now we're gonna have to wait for it because, you know, they, we were. supposed to kinda give him, like, a heads up and now we gotta sit here awkwardly. as we wait for them to bring the thing in because it- Don't touch the basket. It's a hot, hot basket. Okay. Okay. Look at all the… Okay, so these are- You got suction darts. S- does the suction dart even work?
I feel like if you- Oh, it does. If you cannot hit Italy with all these opportunities, I'm really gonna be…. Oh, you, now that's- A little high. What are these, mag- do magnet darts work on it? Let's find out. Why would that…? No. No, no. So- Just a nice little sampler, though. Yeah, it's a sampler. Yeah. Different styles. It's just a sampler. And what is this? That's a blow dart. Seriously? That is a, it is a blow dart. Look at that. I mean, can I even- Throw it at the thing and see what happens.
No. Guys, this is worthless. Blow darts don't stick. Oh, God. I'm glad it's not my birthday. Ay- yay, yay, yay. Yeah, that's probably not gonna work. Look at this. With no fin on the back, what's gonna happen? I've got, I've got a lot of these. Let me try this. Yes. All right. I think I can get closer.
Oh, that's pretty close. Okay. Should I stop? Nah, I'ma get greedy. Oh, man. Oh. Oh, no. Uh, y- okay. That's the one that counts, apparently. That's, that's further away. Okay. Oh. Oh, yeah. Almost hit Italy. Okay. Okay, okay, okay. You didn't make it easy for me, but whatevs. All right, get in there. Do you agree? Um- Bruschetta. It's, I mean, it's tomatoes, bruschetta, shrimp. I think it could be Portugal 'cause they love their seafood in Portugal, and they.
do the same type of stuff with bread. It's a crap shoot. You're closer to Italy, so I'll try to do Portugal just in. case it is the correct answer. Oh. Ooh. I hit the country of Portugal, but not the actual- You hit Spain. No, you hit Spain. Oh, yeah, Portugal's small. I know. I've been there. All right, folks. You just had a… Tomate crevette. Which is a whole tomato stuffed with a filling of shrimp, tossed in lemon.
juice, mayonnaise, parsley, and tomato juice, showcasing its home country's. love of shrimp caught in the nearby North Sea off the northern coast of Belgium. Ooh. What? I think you were a little closer. Okay, but not much. Not much. Woo. This is a close game. Rhett, you have five, and Link, six. Ooh, wow. So now we're tied. Just got tied up. Dang.
Looks like we got. some dog food on some Ritz crackers. Mm. What is it? This might be pate. Smells fine, though. Not liver pate. Hm. What is it? It's a little spicy. Hm. You hate liver. It's not liver. I don't think I … I think I wouldn't be able to take it.
If it's pate- Besides- … it's the best pate I've ever eaten … little peppers here. That's a really good tasting peppers. Since we're tied up, who goes first? I guess I go first again because I won last time. Yes, sir. Um, I have no clue. I just wanna jump in with you guys. How are you doing? Are you enjoying your- I'm doing great. Yeah. I'm great. Yeah, I could use a refill. You could use a refill? Yeah, okay. What were you having again? Okay. Just whatever you wanna go get. Okay, that sounds good to me.
Yeah. Are you just trying to send him away? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. You guys, y- what you doing after this? Anything fun for your birthday? Um, nope, no plans at all. Not, I mean, if n- to invite you to. Is there, like, a d- special dessert? Uh, I'll see what, uh, we can do, but I'm actually just about to go on my break, so, uh, yeah, when I get back, if you guys are still here, I'll, I'll see if we can. look at- Is somebody gonna replace you? Another, yeah, yeah. Um, I don't know. That's my manager's job. But, yeah, I mean, you- you'll be well taken care of.
You're, yeah. You're thinking about Chad, aren't you? I don't know anything about Chad's cuisine. I swear I taste some organs in there. Yeah, it's hidden really well, though. Putting some organ meat on a cracker, it just feels Norwegian to me, but. spicy doesn't feel Norwegian to me. I tasted a red pepper. They love red pepper in Italy. I've tried to go for Italy almost e- Italy has been the thing. we've gone for every round. It is. Uh, and it hasn't been it. Intentionally. I did go to Portugal last time, but I'm gonna try Italy again.
Ooh. And you hit Belgium. I think I hit Belgium. I, the peppers are making me think Dominican Republic. So here we are, gonna create a little distance in between us. Could pull away here. 'Cause nothing else is jumping out at me. I think I'm gonna split the difference for strategic reasons, just to make this close. Um. Oop, I didn't mean to go that far. You, I mean, boy.
I, I, I was- Your subconscious really threw you over there. I was really not aiming that far east. All right. All right, I'm back from my break, and I do have something for your. birthday, a little dessert treat. Oh, wow, just- Right out of your hand. Yeah. All right, thank you. Happy, happy birthday. You're a YouTube star. Today we think that you can go and pee in your backyard. Oh, yeah. All right. You heard- More songs. So you've heard. Yeah, and it rhymed. Side yard. We'll go there. Sorry. You just had… Goose pate.
Goose. Goose. Not to be confused with foie gras, which is made from fattened goose liver, this much. more ethically produced spreadable appetizer is made from regular goose breast meat. Okay. It's typically made from a type of small goose called the upland goose, native to. nowhere else but the Falkland Islands. No. What? Are you serious? Hold on. We've just completely Falkland forgot about you guys.
I mean, just like that. Man, and if I would've guessed it on my birthday- Man … it would've been so good. I wish we could go back in time and you could do it right. After all these- … versions of this game where it's just lingering up there. Yes. All right, Rhett, you had 43, Link, 38. Okay, well, so you made a little progress, birthday boy. Ah, not enough. Do you like the idea. of dressing like you went to college whether or not you did? Well, that's why we have the Collegiate Collection.
It, this, uh, GMM hoodie is part of that. These little, uh, banner stickers. Mm-hmm. What do you call these things? Pennants. Pennants. Pennant stickers are part of it. Mm-hmm. We got a couple of T-shirts as well. Look at that. Yeah. Mythical, 1984, GMM. The Mythical Collegiate Collection, including the pennants. They are sharp, boy, and that sweatshirt is nice. Look at that. It's nice and soft. Shiny. And a little bit shiny. All available at mythical.com. Yes, sir. Get it. Final round, we're within five.
So close. What are these? Deep-fried-. Is it a bean? I see that there's a stripe on this one. The batter is, uh- Spicy … and it's, it's, it's a very interesting spice. Hmm. I have no idea what I'm eating. I'm starting to get an idea. Actually, I can see what that is now.
I thought it was a, um, a vegetable, but then it became a fish strip. It's quite good. Or it could just be like minnows, like fried minnows. Mm. I'm not gonna say anything 'cause I don't have to go. You think you know what it is, though? I don't know where it's from, but I think I know s- I know something about it. Well, I know that the spice- That you made, like I said … is, I don't know, I thought. maybe it was like an Indian kind of a spice. The closest thing is Uzbekistan, which is landlocked.
Why would they have a seafood dish as like a signature? As a reminder, this is the mystery round. Dang it. Come on. It's his birthday. It's his birthday. Come on. He always forgets it's the mystery round. Thank you. That's my favorite part. I think a few of us were looking around and kind of decided if we should tell you or not. Sorry, Rhett. I'll do something for your birthday. Come on. Chase, you coulda done that, too. Did you know? I did know and I was gonna let you know, of course, 'cause I'm a- I was. not gonna let you know … my server. Good tip. Yeah, exactly. Your hands are so cold.
When your opponent- Why? I mean, like, do you- When your opponent doesn't know that the shot clock is about. to run out, you don't start telling him. Yeah, but if we applied that to Link, like would he ever win? No, no. He's not on your team. Okay, okay. I'm talking to just the, you know, the people. He's producing a show. Okay. And it was gonna be very entertaining when you did it and not know about it. Well, I was just talking. Okay. I'm thinking something like India, so I'd be aiming for the same place anyway. Yeah, I think I am.
But I'm gonna go a little bit west. Just a great choice, that's what I would've done too. Okay. Oof. Too far. Oof. But that's okay. What are you thinking? Speak freely. Well, when you said minnows, I was like, yes. That's- I think it's small fish. I think it's a small fish. I think it's slices. It's like they're all the same thing. Yeah. They're all small fish. And this, my friend, is a banana leaf.
Oh, I didn't even see that. And where would they use a banana leaf? I hope it's Chad. That spicy little fried minnow could be somewhere in the Caribbean, but it could. also be somewhere in Southeast Asia. You're right in the middle. I just have to make a choice as to which direction I'm gonna go in. I like the sound of that. And I feel like- Do you want a little… Is that what you're doing? Nope. Okay.
I do- Praying for him to make a wrong guess … I do agree that it has a. curry type- Praying he doesn't get it right … it has a curry type taste, right? Like, so. I think it's India and east, and so I'm just gonna try to go to the east of your thing. Okay. Mm. Okay, server. All right, birthday boy. You just had Nethili 65, a dish of spiced, deep-fried anchovies. Anchovies. While some may think that the number 65 refers to the number of spices used in the.
recipe, the most commonly accepted theory is that the dish was named after the year. it was invented, 1965, by a hotel chef in Tamil Nadu, the southernmost state of India. Oh. I nailed it. But then you got closer to it. Yes, I did. But I, I mean, am I five centimeters closer? Oh. And, and what about a, like, a little birthday fudge? Birthday fudge? Come on, now.
I don't know if these little islands are part of India. Yeah, they are, 'cause I'm close to it. If, if they taste like birthday fudge, they are. But from the mainland, Link, you had 10, and Rhett, you had five. We tied. We tied? Has that ever happened? Have we ever tied to the exact centimeter before? No way. I don't know. But we know the rule. When we tie, winner is the… Birthday boy.
If Link is the birthday boy winner, that means that he gets to celebrate. his birthday with some special birthday wrap-etizers in Good Mythical More. Oh, and that's my favorite thing to do. Argh. G- give me just one or two of them. I'll think about it. Thanks for commenting and sharing this video. You know what time it is.
