Now, there's nothing like the satisfaction of making something delicious from. scratch with your own two hands. Or so I've been told, I don't really cook. Mm-hmm. Yeah, you don't. Well, I do. And sometimes my hands are tired. Mm-hmm. Sometimes they only have enough energy to grab something off the shelf of. a grocery store and call it a day. And especially if you're like me and you use your hands a lot when you talk.
Uhhuh. So how do you know which homemade foods are worth making? Mm-hmm. Let us give you a hand. And we're gonna get started off with ranch. Here it is. Look at that, just that quickly, I have ranch. And here it is. Mm. Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And just like that. Just that quickly, I have all the ingredients to make ranch. Now I've actually gotta do it. Alright. It looks like I got mayonnaise. I paid $7 for this, personally. Um, we paid $44 and 55 cents for all of the packaged ingredients, but if you break that. down into how much we're using to make the ranch star cream, it's still $8 and 2 cents.
So it's still more expensive than just buying this, and that. doesn't even take into account. Buttermilk. The 15 minutes or ever how long it's gonna take you to actually make ranch. Chives? Is it gonna taste that much better. Parsley? Is the operative question. You ever done this? Dill. No. I love dill. Dude, dill's the best. Why is dill so good? What's the dill? And you can add more dill. Some peppercorn, some onion powder.
And why are these. Garlic powder. Chicken tenders so good? Okay, and so I'm gonna mix, whisk. So good. Oh gosh. I get, well, I'm gonna mix with this and then I'll whisk 'cause. I've already got it on my spoon. Did you make this chicken tender? They're from the store. Oh. Colby's like they're from the store. Okay. Oh man, this is gonna be so good. Look at that. What did you just look at? Ranch. Ranch left. Oh. Ranch left. Oh.
Oh. Dude, that's gonna be so much better than what you got going on over there, now. It's good, dude, Hidden Valley. Lemon to taste. Do you want to, you want. And salt to taste. I like how you shook your hand first. And then you're gonna obviously. Whisk. Alright, I'm growing impatient. This is why you don't cook, because you think this is taking a long time. Just mixing things. Yeah. Okay, let me just get a little taste here.
A little ranch in your beard. Y'all wanna come to my ranch in my beard? Yeah. For the weekend. Put a big old pinch of salt in there. Come on. Hold on, I'm getting it right for you, man. In fact, I actually think I want a little more, a little more lemon. Yeah. Okay, alright. Alright, Gordon Ramsey. Putting the pressure on me.
Now, I've been tasting the other one already, so I'm, I'm ready to go. I'm gonna taste yours first with you. It definitely has a, a very fresh and dilly taste that you can dial in. I think I do, I don't prefer the consistency but the flavor. Hm. That's fine. Isn't that a good tender too? Man.
I, I would be. I do like to, I do. I would be raving over this ranch because I'm such a dill boy. But the time it takes might be a deal breaker. No, it's not, that took no time at all, man. Yeah, you're right. I mean, the, the consistency is the only really thing I can point to. This is gonna be the fastest. Just so you know, as someone who's never cooked this, we didn't just cook. I understand. We mixed, and you can keep making more and more of this. It can be fresh at all times.
And you're gonna spend $8 to basically make about the same exact amount. I think this is a D-I-Y. Next up we got some store-bought pickles, these happen to be Claussen. And some homemade pickles. Ooh, look at the stuff, there's dill in in there, Link. I see dill. We still dilling it up. I mean, that's whole dill. You ever seen whole dill? Oh, that's what the balls are. Whole dill Neal. No, the the, the Twinkles. Whole, whole dill Neal, look.
This is whole dill, Neal. Yeah. What are the, what are the balls? Coriander seeds. Coriander. I like those too, so, I mean, this is, this is a lot right. Now, just in case you wanna make these at home. Whoa. We got white vinegar culture, uh, culture salt, no kosher salt, sugar water. Oh. Kirby cucumber, coriander seed, garlic mustard seed, red pepper flakes, and dill. And the total recipe cost 34.91.
And the total, or the total receipt cost is 34.91. The total recipe cost is 9 78 and those cost 6.91. So, uh, uh, apples to apples or pickles to pickles, if you will. Were just, uh, like $3 more for these. Let's taste the. You choked earlier. I wasn't paying attention. Are you okay? Uh. I didn't choke. You spit what? Something happened. Oh, I ate the dill and coriander, which, uh, I didn't wanna swallow.
Oh, okay. And I will say I felt like I have medieval, fresh breath. Oh, nice. It's like I'm. Christmas. Like I'm a knight at Christmas. Claussen, I'm a fan. They know what they're doing. And you know what you're gonna get. But when you do this at home, if you're just getting started, well, there's an art to it. It takes 25 minutes to prep it, and it takes three days or more to brine it.
It's, it's super fun to see your own little jar of these things. This is not your own little, this isn't your jar. No, it's not, but I have. This is Colby's jar. That's my jar. I have a, I have an affinity for homemade pickled stuff because both. sides of my family, both my nana and my nanny would pickle stuff and they. would like do these big jars of pickles. Oh.
So my, my childhood was defined by pickles, beets, and peppers and all that kind of jazz. They're spicy, a little bit spicy. You can dial, you can dial it in and have a family signature. You are not saving time, you're not saving money, but. That is so good. If you dial it in, like this is, it's special. You can taste the love. Let's get practical though, because if we're just gonna, I'm gonna think that the.
homemade one, one, tastes better every time. But, am I really gonna do this? Am I gonna let it sit for three days? Three days? But you can also let it sit. Three days of waiting. For a year. Yeah, but I have to wait. Whereas I could just grab those and eat them and I'm gonna be happy. I feel like I'm gonna be happy, these are so good though. They're so good. I will say. I think the process is something I could see myself doing. Can I say I cooked?
Uh, if you make pickles, you can say you pickled, but. Yeah, I could be a pickler. No, you couldn't. And you don't even know Kelly. Huh, Touche. Uh, I I don't think you would do this. You say you would do this, it's one of those things that. My nanny did it. We say it's, well, I don't know. I think, I think it died with her. Well, thanks for bringing that up. So you're making an argument. They're so good though. That it's such a time commitment. The fact that you have to wait a long weekend.
It's agrarian. It's got agrarian vibes. But if you're willing to wait a long weekend, you're gonna be willing to wait. for everything that we're gonna look at. But you're saying that you might be able to do this because it's. not cooking, it's pickling. Yep. Alright. I'm an advocate. You make the call and I'm making the call, DIY. Onto rotisserie chicken. Mm-hmm. We've got the store bought. This thing is only 6 21 at the local grocery store for us. Every grocery store got these now, right? And then of course this one, uh, is the homemade version.
The recipe cost for this is $27.06 and it takes 10 minutes to prep and then. about an hour and 45 minutes to roast. So you spending about two hours and almost $30. And good luck being able to rotate it. Yeah, this was not rotated, it was put on a rack, because most people don't have. the rotisserie connection or attachment. But you, but you know what? I do. You do. I do. You do. Remember when I, when I bought that, uh, I bought a gas grill.
I remember that day. And it, it came with a, uh, a rotisserie mechanism. I don't have a fork. And I said, I'm gonna do this right when I got the grill and I got caught. up in tying, hog tying the chicken. You know, you not, what's the, what's the word for hog tying the chicken? Truss. Yeah. String, you stringing up the leg and. You trust me. Truss. I, I, I tried to do that and I got so frustrated tying up that chicken.
that me and Christy got in a fight and then I was, I threw it on there. I never used it again. Yeah. Never done it again. To save your marriage. To save the marriage, my marriage almost did, was lost because of that. Um, that's a good chicken. Hmm. I mean, they got this down at the grocery stores and it's so cheap, in fact. Mm-hmm. I've heard that places sell those at a loss because they're so.
popular just to bring people in. Wow. Who's whispering that type of stuff to you? My grandma. She's back. No, yours is dead too, so. She's back. I'm gonna make you jealous. My grandma's back. So I'm already on team buy the thing because I, you know, I'm pro-marriage. for those who want to do it.
If you don't wanna get married, don't. I'm pro do whatever you need to do. But if you're, if you're married, well, I'm married, I'm pro staying in my marriage. I'll just leave it at that. Just make it about me. Make it about you, yeah. Um, I can't say that this is. Doesn't taste as good. I can't even say this is as good. Not nearly as good. I feel like I need chemicals in injected into my chicken to really enjoy it. Maybe there's something about that Ferris wheel in there. It brings the magic.
Man, yeah, you gotta buy. You've got to buy. And just like that, I've got store-bought ketchup. Now this process is a little more complicated, so I'm not gonna demonstrate it. I will have, you know that it would take 20 minutes to combine all the. things that you need to combine to make homemade ketchup, and it would. cost you about $20 to make this recipe. Okay? But you gotta buy so many ingredients. $5 for this. Think about the time. I mean, boy, I get so frustrated.
In fact, they rearranged my local grocery store. What. They rearranged it. Oh my god, people, and is there things on the, on the community forum? Uh, I don't go to the community forum. I just go to the grocery store and I didn't know, I was there and I was overwhelmed. And I think I looked like a lost child. And then I, a woman came into focus. And it was your wife. What? Yeah. Yeah, I was gonna ask, is this the same one that I would go to if I went? Yeah, and.
And did she guide you around? Well, as I was filling my cart with things and talking to. your wife, I felt in her voice. Christy, just call her Christy. Christy's her name? Yeah. Oh, Christy. Her name's Christy. Yeah. I felt in her voice a longing. To stop talking to you. A longing for her husband to come to the grocery store and shop for the family like. I was doing for my family, just so you know. She didn't say it, but I could tell it in her face.
What, what? Like how. She looked at me like, what would that be like? That's what she looked, she looked at me like that. She didn't. Not to be married to me. I don't, I'm saying. She didn't she she didn't look like she was attracted to you? No, no. I mean, a little bit, but mostly it was like, what would it be like to have a husband who. would go to the grocery store for the family? I could hear it in the tone of her voice. Just between me and you. And what were you, what were you getting? Stuff for the family. No. Okay. The things that my wife told me to get. My wife's name is Jessie.
All right. Well, I would rather do that than make ketchup. Who in their right mind would make ketchup? Who makes ketchup at home? What type of person would you have to be? Is it good? Is it that much better? It's wild. Whoa. It's wildly different. It almost tastes like jelly. It's like fruit. I kind of like it. I know tomato's a fruit. I think I, I know that. I think I know that it is.
Does anybody here do this? Does anybody, anywhere on the planet do this? Who's the hippiest person that we've got in this room right now? You think it's a hippie thing? Uh, James makes a lot of food. Yeah. That's right. Ketchup. James, you ever make your own ketchup? Certainly not. Certainly not. See, look at that. He just chastised us for asking. It's just so, I've never tasted anything like it. I would, I would if, if you didn't tell me it was ketchup, I'd be like, what is this? If I went to a restaurant and they said they had their own homemade ketchup.
and they gave me this, I think I would say, do you have the regular stuff? Definitely. Absolutely, definitely. It's the, okay. Uh, it's, it's something you should never do. Okay? So we're gonna go with Buy. You ever wanted to have a picnic? Yes. Well you can do that with the Mythical outdoor blanket. Your butt gotta be on the right thing if you're gonna picnic properly. I mean it's so big. We got you with this. It's so big and it's packable and totable.
It's so cute. It's not sound proof though, 'cause you can still hear me. I do hear you. Available for third degree Mythical Society members. You get it as part of your plan. It's free, included with membership. Uh, you can join third degree, quarterly or annual plan by the. end of this month, March 31st. I'm gonna keep it on my legs. I've never done that. You ever just put a blanket on your legs, like all, of course you have. MythicalSociety.com. Hummus. We have Hummus. Sabra Classic over here, which you can get for $8.
And this is the first round where the recipe cost is less than the. grocery store cost, it's only $6.05, if you wanna make this for yourself. I think I'm gonna go chip. Still got about nine ingredients in it, including cumin. Takes about 20 minutes to mix those together. This is well mixed. How, how did you mix it so well at home? Because, I've had homemade hummus before and it's, it was like really grainy and.
It did, it did, it wasn't like it. What's your secret, Colby? Two, two things. So the first thing I've whipped the tahini with like the garlic, the olive. oil, the cumin, the salt, the paprika, everything first for like a minute and. then in batches added the chickpeas. And then the best thing is adding ice water at the end, it has to be cold. And that's what gives it that really creamy, just like perfect spread. Dang, they did, when you got it. I'm glad I asked. They didn't do that.
Ice water, so you, okay. You heard the man. Whoa. It's so much, it's, it's, it's, it's vibrant. Flavor explosion. It, it's just vibrant. The olive oil. The freshness. And the freshness. Some, man, that hummus is dead. This hummus is dead to us. I could tell you why. Uh, so I use lemon juice for my acid, which is not only fresh but tasty, and they. use citric acid, which is a preservative for them, but also it's just too much. Preservative schmervative.
I mean, this is a dynamic hummus experience. This is crazy and it's cheaper. Dang. Oh man. Why do I have goosebumps from hummus? I mean, look, can you, do you see, do you see the hair standing up on my arms? Hey, man. I got, I think I, I think I'm crying a little bit. You're crying a little bit. I mean, there's a tear in my eye. Oh. Dang. The tear my eye. I think this one's pretty daggum definitive. This, this is it right here.
This is the headline. DIY. White bread y'all. Can you believe this is a homemade loaf. I've never. No uhuh. I've never seen it. No. Colby. Yeah. What, how, how you makin' white bread at home? And then how you slice it. It at, it's looking like. Without doing. Actual bread. Squishing what in the the world. I don't what in the world. Uh, so I use a knife to cut it, but. Shade. Uh, the pan, the pan is doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Uh, it's called a Pullman loaf pan.
Oh, it's a pan. Yeah, so when you're letting the bread rise for the second time, you put it in the pan. and you let it almost go all the way to the top, and then you close the lid and bake it, and it just gives you that perfect shape. You let, you let it rise at the top and you close it. Yeah. Cut your finger off. And again, in this round, while it will take you almost four. hours to make this, it costs less. You can get this, you can get this recipe, basically. This breaks down to like $3 and 34 cents for this loaf versus $4 and 69 cents.
So you're paying less ultimately, but you're putting in the work. That's a stout piece of bread. It's, yeah, it's, um, try that, this is, this is very soft. Oh. I know you've already tried that one. Oh. But I mean, if you look at this one's, it's stouter. Hmm. It's a lot stouter. I love room temp bread. I mean room temp butter. Sorry. Edit that out. I don't wanna be embarrassed.
It's not as floppy. It's more dense. This has to be hard to do. This is, this takes practice. A little bit, yeah. I've been making bread for a while, but once you get it down, it's. really easy and it's so worth it. Oh, okay. Well, that's our job. Oh, my bad. Yeah, come on now. He over here saying. Come on now, Colby. He's like, I. He brought your pan out. He brought this out and he was like talking, talking smack about it. He was like, it doesn't even stand up. Yeah.
Yeah. He, he was trying to, you, you can't, there's a, there's a delineation between. Colby hates the store. He won't even go into the parking lot. Okay. I like the soft. I like the soft. The soft. It's soft. So soft. Soft. It's a little soft. It's so soft. It's probably soft for a reason, if we ask Colby why it was soft, he would say something negative. Yeah. Why is it so soft? No, don't, don't ask. Uh, all the preservatives in it, so. Preservatives shmirvatives, we don't care about preservatives. The homemade loaf was made yesterday and so as it sits, it's really hard to store.
Okay. Okay. Yeah, it was made yesterday. Typically you would eat it fresh. Here's what I'll say. I think that homemade bread is better than store-bought bread, but I think when. you get into sandwich bread specifically. Yeah. There's something I'm just, you know, I'm. Wonderful. I grew up on Wonder Bread. Mm-hmm. And so it's just like, it's so unnatural already that that's just what I crave.
I know, man. For a sandwich. Yes. And, and, um, and let's, it's like the American cheese slice vibe. I mean, a grilled cheese, that's this with American cheese. Right? There's no real ingredients in the whole thing. It's basically just all plastic. Embrace the preservatives with your white bread. So we're gonna say. This is a. Buy. Okay, we learned some things today. I mean, it's a little bit of a mixed bag. Mm-hmm. Half of the time we went with buy, half of the time we went with DIY. It depends on what it is. And I have made my own half and half before.
Oh. Yep, you take milk and you take cream and then you pour. Ha, I've done it. I'm just saying. You didn't really make anything. Thanks for commenting and sharing this video. You know what time it is. I'm Christina. And I'm Madison. And we're eating charcuterie in a forest. And now it's time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. Forest charcuterie. It doesn't get any better than that. That just, so it's kind of LA. Pretty LA man.
Hey, let's think of a number and if it's the right number that we're thinking. of, and then it's gonna be a great day. Mm-hmm. And we're gonna say on the count of 3. 3, 2, 1. 8. 1. Oh.
