Can We Understand Ancient Languages? (Game)

Are we smart enough to understand ancient languages? Let's talk about that. Good Mythical Morning. One of the coolest things about the English language. is how it changes so much over the years. Yeah. Uh, people used to say lit. Now they say Riz. It's true. Look it up. Exactly. The English language has actually been evolving for. thousands of years, stemming from a common language.

ancestor that linguists call Proto Indo-European. or PIE for short. Okay. And TikTok linguists are, arumnatzorkhang. Oh. Makes videos showing exactly how certain words. evolved into the ones we know and love today. Watch. Nose. He's saying nose the whole time.

Right. And only he knews that. But at some point you, we figured it out. We figured it out, but we didn't tell you. 'cause that's what we're about to do. If you don't think it's possible to make a fun. game out of proto Indo European language evolution, then you don't know what we're capable of. It is time for Mystery Countdown, ancient. language edition. Okay boys, Arum has graciously shared his videos with us, and all. you have to do is be the first to buzz in and guess. what Modern day word you are seeing the evolution of.

Yes. And heads up that some of these words can be. traced as far back as. 4,500 BC. Wow. So you might remember them from high school. Wow. Guess wisely because the loser will be punished in Good. Mythical More. I'm feeling pretty good because I brought a lucky. item, as I always do. This is my replica of the Rosetta Stone that. I created in preschool. Meticulously. You remember that?

Oh yeah. It was actually before I knew you. It's the same thing written in three languages, so you can derive what these ancient languages actually --. It took me a whole hour. Yeah, that's, that's really good. Um, this took me a couple of hours. I two have a, uh, a stone of sorts. The Ross etch in stone. Oh yeah. See from, from friends? Yeah. Okay. Ross. Ed Stone? Yeah. Ross Sten Stone. Ru Sten Stone. All right. Yep. Ru Sten Stone.

There you go. I will be hanging this somewhere special. later when I win. Okay. Get your buzzers ready. Buzzers ready. I'm gonna give you a clue. Oh, okay. No faith in us, huh? This first word is a body part. Let's see it. Oh, a body part. Rhett? Heart. You are correct.

How did you get that? How did you get heart? 'Cause he went to Herto. He, oh, let's say Herto. Let's see the rest play. He went to Herto. I like the very end where he is like heart. He just looks. He just looks at you. Like, let me make it absolutely clear for you guys. Well you got, you got a nice sixer for that one.

Yeah, well, I mean, I see what I do. Once it said heart I it heart. I'm sorry. Yeah. This next one is an animal. Let's see it. Link. Bear? That's what I was gonna say. You are incorrect. Oh.

Rhett. Beaver. You are correct. Beaver. He's almost there. I wanna see him say Beaver. I see it. Beaver. I love this. I mean, I just, I see why this is a popular. thing on the internet. I like it too, because especially at the end, 'cause it's like, because first of all, everyone who's.

watching this is playing the game that we always play. Like, like instead of creating a game outta something where. people just watch out of interest, like they literally. are doing, they're like, oh, when is it gonna be? What is it gonna be? Be, oh, it's bear. No, it's beaver. And then the very end, the satisfaction of. Beaver, beaver, beaver. I just, but the eye contact was weak on that one. He didn't wanna look right at us when he said, beaver. Yep. It is like beaver. Okay, this next one is a color.

All right. What? Rhett? Gray. You are incorrect. I was going, like. Sounded like he said grape nuts. Great nuts. White. You are correct. This is why you say white so hard. I, so I say white 'cause it's whetus.

Let's see it. See, that's where I got it from. I have been exonerated. Yeah. Okay. This is what, this is where the first times. ever that there's been historical evidence for. something that you do. White, white, white. You gotta blow when you say it. White. White. Alright, you're back in it, Link. This next one is a body part.

[bleep]. Correct. Yes. Harz. Yeah. When it was ARS in there, uh, you were buzzing too, too. Let's see him say [bleep].

There was so much ARS in there. It was ars for a long time. Even when it said ear. It was our RS artist and they still say RS. in the home country. Rs. Jarcars. That was a big round, Link. I've taken the lead. I gotta, I gotta buckle back down. Yeah, take a good look at my Rs. This next one is an element. An element, you said.

Link. Fluoride? You are incorrect. Okay, that's a good guess. Rhett. Iron. I mean. You are incorrect.

Because Ferris. Uh, fear, uh. Uh, uh, hydrogen. Incorrect. The element of fear. Let's see it. Okay. Fire is not an element on--. It is an element. Periodic.

Well, you know, I was trying not, not to be very specific. It is an element, it's one of the elements. It's just you were thinking of a different kind of element. Mm. I just think you could have said something hot. This is something hot. I mean, I was about to get phosphorus. Yeah. Yeah. At the beginning when you said, I was like, Hey, it might be fluoride. It might be fluoride. Okay. Well, now you understand my clues. Oh, you know. Oh yes. This next one is from the category plants.

Okay. Okay. That's early. Hemlock. You are incorrect. Oh. Oh gosh. Dammit. Apple. Yes. You are correct. Yes. Oh, I gotta wait is a plant. I gotta wait. An apple is a plant. Rhett. Play out.

Apple, apple. So I'm noticing a pattern. There is like a, sometime in the middle where it. changes very significantly. Yep. And then it becomes the thing that then it has slowly, like everyone has done that. Like they didn't start with an A and if all. sudden you guess in the early stages you screwed. It's always wrong. So we gotta wait. Hmm.

Okay. I gotta, I gotta, I gotta dig outta this hole. Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep. Come on, Rosetta stone. Come on. I spent so much time on you when I was four. Okay, this next one is a type of animal. Link. Uh, um.

Ehh, too long. Birds. You are incorrect. Rhett. Hound? You are correct. That's tough. That was tough. Lets see. Hundas. Was tough. That was a tough one. Hundas. Hundas, all right. Okay, you gonna try to catch me?

This next one is from the category. Numbers. Oh, you trying to go early, cause? Eight. You are correct. Ahh, no, what? Because Octo. But then in the very next one it changed to start with an A. Let's see.

You got it. Ata. Ata. You know, things got simpler over time. Yep. It's like we, it's just, it does it seem simple and normal. to us because it's so familiar to us, but just like eight, like you don't have to go, there's you to make any eight. Well, not, not eight, it's just not here In. other countries you still do eight, eight.

We made it easy. Did you say, but did you say eight or did. you say Octo something? I said eight. Okay. Alright. That was a tenor. That was a tenor. You have taken the lead. This is a tight game, man. Is that part of why you sort of had a negative. taste towards spirituality? This Turo is magnificent. Can I take some home? This is absolutely, this is kind of ridiculous. We have a whole chub of it. I don't know if you know this, but they measure processed. meat loaves in chubs. I measure life in Chubbs.

I measure life in Chubbs right now. How many more rounds have we got? Just two. We have a couple more rounds. Oh gosh. Okay. This is tough. And you, you're both seeming very serious about--. This is the most competitive game on. Good Mythical Morning. It really is. It really is. Uh, this next one is a mythical related word. Let's see.

Link. Horny. You are incorrect. Incorrect, horny. That's like one of our special words. Rhett. Hell? Huh? Mythical related word. Hell. You are incorrect. All right, lemme try to get it.

Link. Wheel. You are correct. That's so I just tied you. Hold on. Mythical related. It's like, oh wheel. Like the Wheel of Mythicality. In fact, Arum created this. specifically for this game this round and the next round. Hold on. Hold. He got, he got it when there was one point. out there, not two. Yeah. Yeah, just one. Yep. It's a tie. So it's tie, it's, it's, it's tied at 20.

The tie has scored going into the final round. But let's hear him say wheel 'cause that's. the special part. Wheel. Wheel. Do you see how he looked? He really looked at you for that one. Yeah. Yeah. I, I felt guilty. That's why I said, hell, you knew what. she meant by the hint. I didn't. When she said mythical related word, I still think of the. word mythical as like the regular meaning of mythical. When I hear myth, like it's a mythical like. hell, hell is mythical kids, believe it or not. It's not real. Okay. This is the final. We also have a company called Mythical and a show.

with the word mythical. And it's not real either. Final round, 20 to 20, the tie is scored. Wow. This means everything to everyone. Yeah, and it's another. Mythical related. word, and I am looking for a very specific. answer for this one. Let's see.

Rhett. Beans. One more time? Beans. You are correct. Why did you get it? Was his, his thing?

I mean, if he didn't get his thing. Let's see. Let's, did, did we, did we? Let's see it. Play all the way out. Beans. Now I was just, how I say, when I get drunk, I say Banes. And if he would've just said bean. Yes. I was told, and that's why I said s and that's why I.

heard the S subtly it was, it was very quiet, 10. It was quiet, but it was in there and it was close. But Rhett, you pulled off the win, which means. you get to insult Link in different languages. in Good Mythical More. All right. To see more of Arum's videos on ancient languages, I know you want to.
