Can We Spot The Liar?
- Will we get stumped. by the internet's strangest mystery objects? - Let's talk about that. (lively music). - "Good Mythical Summer.". - The world's full of a befuddling amount of stuff in it. Stuff to play with, stuff to clean with, stuff that fixes other stuff. - And a lot of stuff has obvious uses like spoons, which are good for cereal, ice cream, and when I'm feeling frisky, cottage cheese.
- But some stuff isn't obvious at all, at least, not upon first look. And from that seed, a beautiful game is born. It's time for "What The Use?". Please welcome Jordan, Andrew, and Angela to the set. None of them are as comfortable as Link is right now. - Where is Link? Where is Link? Can you find him? - [Angela] Where'd he go? - I don't know. - [Andrew] Oh no, Link's just a head. This is a Halloween episode.
- I'm playing Meccha Chameleon over here. - Oh, he just couldn't get enough. - No, man, it's "Good Mythical Summer,". I had to wear my cozy fit at least once. I didn't know it was going to match the chair perfectly. - I'm glad that it does. - All right. Under this red velvet mystery cloak. is an item that each of you must convince us what it is, but only one of you actually has the right answer. - Yes. And what we're going to be doing. is wagering 1,000 of our confidence tokens up to 1,000.
And we've got a total of 1,000 for this entire game. And we are trying to guess. which one of you is actually telling us the truth. - It's that easy, guys. - [Rhett] Yeah. - For us, I, you know, I'm giving you guys a hard time. because last time you made it too easy on us. So, we're bringing in Angela. who is a known pathological liar. - I've been practicing my lying. I've been practicing lying since the last time. Listen to this,
I'm having a bad time and I hate being here. - Oh, yeah. Okay. - [Angela] Okay. - That was very convincing. - All right, get up there and let's see what this thing is. - This, of course, or I should say these are trail markers for night hikes. So, if you're on a night hike. you swing this guy around the tree, you'll notice it's weighted differently, so it'll wrap around the tree or log, I guess. And they light up but it's fire resistant,
so it won't, you know, cause a forest fire when it heats up. So, this is perfect. Bring a couple of these on your night hike. and you make a little trail for yourself. - Trail markers for night hiking. Okay. Thank you, Jordan. - Andrew? - Okay. - This is good. - These are clearly poi toys. These are weighted, as he said, that's the only truthful thing he did say. And they do light up as well, but, these are for rhythmic dancing.
They're originally from the Maori, people of New Zealand. And you use them to do really exciting, fun dances, and it creates like a rhythmic hypnotic effect. - Poi toys? - [Andrew] Poi, yeah. - Kind of like a boy toy, but. - Yeah. - You can't ask questions. - I'm just talking. I'm just, I'm just shooting the breeze. - Yeah, but you are asking questions in the process. - [Andrew] They said I can't say anything. Sorry. - Right. - Uh-huh. Poi toy. - Angela.
- Speaking of poi toy, these are pool toys. Okay? What are you doing with these in the pool, you ask. You're not asking. No questions. What these are are, you throw these in the pool, they're weighted, okay? This one goes to the bottom. And this is kind of like in the water, right? And you have, and they light up, and you're underwater and kids find it, pull it, and bring it up to the surface. Pool toys.
- Pool toy, boy toy- - [Andrew] Poi toy. - [Link] Or whatever Jordan said. that I can no longer remember. - Can they all be wrong? - It definitely seems like they can. - [Rhett] Okay, we-. - All right, you got us. They're sex things. Obviously. - Okay. - [Jordan] Look at them. - Now we can ask questions. - I mean, I'll dance if you need me to. - [Rhett] Okay, you-. - Why didn't you make it light up if it lights up, Jordan? - Oh, they took out the batteries-. - They told us-. - It would mess with the cameras. - They told us we can't light them up. - Yeah, they told us that. - Yeah.
- [Link] It would mess with the cameras? - It would mess with the cameras. - Andrew. - [Andrew] Yeah. - Okay. - You want me to dance? - Well, I do-. - And all seems like you've watched the video. Like you're prepared to dance. - I want you to demonstrate what you saw and I, and can you also, in doing so, answer the question, is this like for like raves? Is that how the Maori's now? - Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely. Yeah, yeah. - [Rhett] Okay. Right. - Kiwi raves. - And again, I hate to say this, I'm not from New Zealand, I don't know if I'm allowed to do this, but I will give it my all, okay? - [Link] Right. From a cultural standpoint you mean? - Yeah, culturally, I just don't know if I'm allowed to,
but I'll give it a shot. and it's on you if people get mad at me. So, I mean, I haven't practiced, They didn't let me practice, but you kind of do this and you kind of do that. - They Didn't let me practice. - No, they didn't. There's not enough room in that green room. - David, David, you didn't let him practice? - So yeah, that's it. They're poi toys. - [Link] Poi toys. - Yeah. - Okay. Are you confident? - Well, that's what I'm going to write down in my wager. - Okay. - But, no. Good job, guys. - Okay, go ahead.
- With a confidence of 200 tokens. - [Rhett] Wow. - That's all. - [Rhett] Barely. - I'm saying Andrew. - [Rhett] Wow. - I, I, the dance-. - Yeah, I was so good at it. - [Link] Was actually decent. - Wow, I did not think that. - Well, with the conference, confidence of 200, I also went with Andrew. - [Angela] Whoa! - [Rhett] Wow, isn't that weird? - It's really nice for two people. to be barely confident in me. - Someone has to change their answer at this point. I think it should be you. - Not true. - Fine. - That is not true. Would the real truth teller please stand up?
- It's a tie game, you guys-. - Yes. All right. - Yeah, yeah. - So. - [Jordan] Good job, good job. - That was cool. - Yeah, that was fun. It was fun. - You guys did good, but we still did good. - [Producer] Andrew, will you go ahead. and press the button on those things? Show them how they work. - Oh, great. Again, they really forbade us. from trying this in the green room, so. - [Angela] Turn the cameras off. - Oh, Okay. - Oh, yeah, yeah. Turn it off, turn it off, turn it off. - I know. It's messing with the cameras and wifi. - Yeah. - [Rhett] Yeah. - Wow. - [Rhett] That's the only thing that made. I mean-. - They also sometimes are on fire.
They, they have fire ones, fire poi. Where you do like a fire dancing thing. - So you start with this one. - Yeah, I think this is an entry. Yeah. Yeah. - There's like a guy watching this with a ponytail. and a drug rug who never wears shoes who was like, come on, it was obvious. We all played with these in college. - Night hiking? What's that? - All right. Surfer dude. He's a surfer dude. - It's a green room chat. - What you got, what you got under here? - [Rhett] Oh, it's, it's- - [Link] Oh, oh-.
- [Rhett] It's small. - [Link] What? - I want you guys to charge at it like a bull. - [Jordan] A really little bull. - [Rhett] Oh, it's a-. - [Angela] Look it. - [Jordan] Okay. - This is a henna tattoo application tool. So, henna tattoo dye is put into the reservoir. and then you use it to create the intricate patterns. known as henna tattoo, famous in different. weddings, ceremonies, and family affairs. - Look at you and your cultural knowledge base.
- This guy's been backpacking. This guy's been backpacking. - Let's just say I've woken up one too many Saturdays. with a few too many henna tattoos, okay? Had a wild, had a wild night. at the Indian restaurant last night. - Wow. Okay. That was. I was convinced. - [Andrew] Okay. - [Link] All right, Angela. - All right. - Okay. (all laughing). - [Rhett] Yes, please. - Okay.
This is a vintage nasal medicine tool. Before modern medicine, had we get stuff up there we used this. You administer medicine into the nose. (all laughing). I'm just, I'm just reading what it says, it's the truth. - [Rhett] Okay. Okay. - I like how Angela asked herself a question.
- Nasal medication administration. Okay. - Ah, they did this, so I'm going to do it too. Okay. This is a hot wax pen used for decorating eggs. So, what you would do is you put the wax in here. It drips out so you can make intricate patterns on eggs. This is done a lot in Eastern European countries. And fun fact, eggs with these sorts of decorations. have been found as far back as the 10th century.
- We'll look at that. - This is a lot harder, man. - He went, he went with some 10th century. - Egg decoration. Okay. Angela, did you see any diagrams. of the like application process? Like do you know how, like are you, are you, are you saying that. it's like, you would put like some powder. into that little cup and then you like, like I don't-. - [Angela] No, it goes down. - [Rhett] It goes down? - So, so, so-. - You put it on the basin and it comes down the little hole.
- Yeah. - We're all saying stuff's coming out of the hole. It's just medicine, tattoo ink-. - It's just what's coming out, right? - It's just like last round all-. - [Jordan] That could be a new game. - [Andrew] Yeah. - [Unison] What's coming out of the hole? - It's a good game. - Write it down. - It's a good game. - Trademark, trademark. I'm mailing it to myself. Yeah. - So, Jordan, I will ask a question. - That's the game, isn't? - Link, I feel like you need a little candle and a nightcap. - Yeah. So I'm so-. - Who's there?
- [Rhett] Wishes out for. - Hello. Hello. - [Jordan] That's the voice. That's the voice. - So, what about different colors on the eggs? Do you have like a whole assortment of these? - You'd use different pens, you would have a pen for each color, or you'd wash it out. - Okay. And then how did you, you keep it hot? - In the 10th century you would have used, you know, a candle or something like that, an open flame. So this metal part gets hot and it melts the wax. Wax drips on egg. Everybody loves egg. Egg fun. Egg good.
- Are you saying that this particular one is vintage? - This is vintage, yeah. - Okay. Low confidence again. Which is great, this is what we asked you to do. Make it hard and you're doing it. - All right, I really couldn't have a lower confidence. between eggs and henna. - Who paints eggs? - I said, with a confidence of 100, I went with Jordan and his eggs. - In two, confidence of 200, I also went with Jordan. - Oh, you did? - The reason I almost went with henna,
but the, I think that henna is just like painted on, right? It's like -. - I'm going to change my answer. Can I do that? - [Rhett] Yeah. - Yeah. I mean, I was so 50-50. - Can he change his answer now? - You said I could. - [Producer] Yeah, that's up to the panel. - [Link] I mean, you obviously disagree. - Maybe I'm changing mine too. - To what? - [Producer] Wait a second. - All right. - Maybe I'm changing mine. - I'm still just saying 100. - That could mean a lot. - I don't understand why you wrote something,
now that I want to change it, you want to change yours. because you're only 100 confident. - I'm 200 confident. - Well, then I'm 300 confident. - This is crazy. - You started it. - It's a standoff. Look at this. - What are you doing? So you're writing Andrew now? - For 200. - Well, then I'm going to write Jordan again. - For 300? - I'm going back to Jordan. - [Jordan] This is how the game is played. - But I'm going back to 100. - Okay, all right, Andrew for 200.
- You fell for my ploy. - Will the real storyteller stand up? - Aye. - Aye. - That was for eggs, it was eggs. - That feels like cheating, that's all I'm going to say. - By the way, the winner between the two of us. gets to keep the thing that we want the most. - Okay. - And our charity will get $4,000.
- Ooh. - Either you or me, sir. - All right. - [Link] Angela, what you got? - Okay, ready for this one? - [Rhett] Oh, what's? Ooh. - Yeah, give us a, give us a rotation. and an invocation. Oh, oh, whoa, what? - I present to you a beer can chicken, no. Beer can chicken stand. Beer can chicken, a thing people make all the time.
and they put a beer can with a chicken on top of it. And then the beer flavors the chicken. But, when you do that, you put the chicken on top of the beer can, it falls. And that happens to people. who make beer can chicken every day, unless you have one of these. And this is where you put the beer. and then chicken on top of it. - Okay. Beer then chicken. Got it. - So enough said. - [Andrew] Yeah. - [Jordan] Enough said. - [Andrew] Enough said. - People do it every day.
- If I may. I will leave it at that. would go a long way with me at the end of your speech. - Oh, you want us to say that? - [Link] Just a little, I'll leave it at that. - I'll leave it at that, okay. - Sorry, Angela, you missed your opportunity. - So yeah, I'll, I'll leave it at that. - [Link] Nope, too late. - I'll leave it at that. - [Link] Too late. - No. - Too late. - All right, Jordan. - Okay. Obviously, this is not a beer can chicken holder. This is a rest for an alto saxophone.
So you know, alto saxophone, pretty big horn. So if, you know, you're having a particularly long jam session, if you're an older blower, you're going to need something to rest your alto sax on. Don't put a baritone sax on this, it will catch fire. But, if you, so you, what you do. is you rest the bell of the horn here. and if you're sitting down, you can sax all night. And I'll leave it at that. - Hey.
- I love your closer. Where'd you get that from? - It's my, it's a catchphrase I invented. - [Link] Where did you get that from? - And I'll leave it at that. - This is clearly a Christmas ornament stand holder. for painting and drying. So, DIY enthusiasts love to-. - Sorry. I'm sorry for laughing. - Yeah, you're laughing. It's, I mean, it is hilarious-. - The truth can be hilarious. - Yeah, the truth can be very funny. - Arts and crafts make me giggle. - The guy who's dressed like a Christmas thing. You look like you woke up on Christmas morning.
and you're laughing at your culture, that's really, really interesting. - Link's always trying to catch Santa, right? - So yeah, DIY Christmas ornament. people use this to hold the ornaments. while you paint them and dry them. and you can put different size ornaments. You can hold it like this. and you can put an ornament there and paint it, or you can turn it the other way around. and put four smaller ornaments there. and paint it and dry it. Yeah, it's just an easy way to hold ornaments. when you're making them. And I think it's beautiful.
- It's so funny to watch you guys listen. - Hey, that's what we're banking on here. - I don't, it seems like it, it folds up and that's what-. - And it doesn't really make sense-. - I don't understand. - For any of the things. that were mentioned why it would fold up. - Can someone tell me why it folds up? - Well, for, for my, for my thing, for my thing-. - Which is the truth. - The real thing.
This is so you can like pack it away in a music bag. - Yeah. And I, and I would say beer, beer can chicken. is usually made when camping, so, you usually want to pack it in a backpack. and I'll just leave it at that. - There you go. You found a way. - I had to. - That was good. All three of those, it only makes sense that they are, it's a packable thing, 'cause there's not one of them that is like, oh, and it folds and this is why it folds. - I've actually been informed that I made a huge mistake.
It is for a tenor saxophone, my apologies, my, thank you to the producers. and I'm sorry to the alto sax community. Tenor sax, tenors. - Because it shapes, is that the Kenny G sax? - I was thinking of the Kenny G sax, which is a long, thin guy. Yeah, but the tenor sax is the big boy. where you would need a stand like this. - You're saying that this is while you're playing it, it holds the thing up?
- Yeah. So, while if you were seated. So, you know, it wouldn't work if you were standing, but if you're, you know, seated in a band or an orchestra, you could prop it up on that. - But, you have a thousand confidence points to wager, I have 300 more. - It's not looking great right now. - I have another correction to make. The producers have informed me that Kenny G. in fact plays the soprano sax. So, my apologies to Mr. G and his family. I'm going to take some time to reflect, there's a, a-.
- You got to learn your saxophones. - No saxopology on my social media. - Yeah. Screenshot that. - Sorry to Mr. G, all the little Gs out there. - I'm a little bit behind, and so, I'm going with 400 confidence points. and I, I think it is a saxophone stand. I really do, I really do. - [Link] Even after all the corrections? - Yeah. Especially after all the corrections. - I have wagered a thousand confidence points. - Whoa. - [Rhett] Okay. - And I think it is Angela's beer can chicken.
I think that the reason that it collapses some. is just for a smaller chicken. - I should have said that. - But then the can is inside there. - Chicken goes on top though, no? - The can is in there. - You'd have a smaller thing of liquid. - They make beer smaller. - They make beer smaller now. - But you could pour liquid into like a little thing. if you had a little chicken carcass that you, 'cause you killed the chicken while camping.
- [Rhett] Okay. Well, let's find out. - I bet, you better be right. - Will the real truth teller stand up? - Yes, yes, yes. I knew it. - Do you know why it collapses? - It's for portability. - That's what you said. - It's like I, it's like, what is it? I said what I said. What is it? - [Andrew] That all it is. - Hey, I like that-. - Backpacking. - No, no, I like that. I said what I said. - I'll leave it at that. I'll leave it at that. I'll leave it at that. - I'll leave it at that.
- And I just want to thank the producers. for helping me more convincing the lie. - Okay, let's all be adults here. when I reveal this next one. It's not funny. - [Angela] Yeah. - Not funny at all. - [Jordan] Not funny. - I'm not laughing. - Yep. May we get a closer- - Yes, absolutely. What this is, this is a hand strengthening tool. for if you've had hand surgery. So, if you've had hand surgery, hand, hand surgery.
- I'm sorry if you've recently had hand surgery. - Yes. - A lot of apologies this episode. If you've had hand surgery, we love you, we respect you. We hope you get better. You know, you would squeeze this. and the doctor would measure the output here, the air output here. And to see how strong your hand is getting. - Well, there was something attached to it. that's not on there anymore. - Yeah, this is for liquid. So, you can do it with air and if you want more resistance, you would add liquid. - Hold on, hold on, so do it without grabbing it.
Oh. - You can also use it for feet. I've been told. - It's not a tenor. It's an alto. - [Jordan] Yes. - All right. Thank you, Jordan. - [Jordan] You're welcome. - [Rhett] Andrew. - This is a canine artificial insemination kit. - [Link] No, it's not. Please not, please no. - So, you use this to take semen. You, you collect the semen and, and how you get the semen is up to you. And you collect the semen from the male dog.
- I should hope ethically. - And then you put, you use this to get-. - Angela, you're next. - You use this to insert the semen into the female dog. for artificial insemination. Artificial insemination. reduces stress and anxiety for the dog, and it's an easier way to create baby dogs. So, it's for getting dogs pregnant. - This has been fun, right? Okay, let's talk serious stuff here.
- [Rhett] Okay. - Okay? Let's talk serious. This is a dilation balloon. This is when someone is close to giving birth, but they are not far enough dilated. This just goes up the nose, no, I'm kidding. - [Jordan] Where do babies come from? - This is pumped to open and dilate further. And you can add meds.
- You and your meds. - So, if you wanted to add like-. - Jello? - Jello or-. - [Andrew] Red Bull. - Red Bull to get the baby going. It's just the truth, so I don't, I like-. - Right. Yeah. There's-. - [Angela] I'm like being quirky about it, but like-. - You said what you said. - Being quirky about. - [Angela] Yeah. - You said what you said. - I said what I said. And like babies are born every day with this. - [Andrew] Every day. - Every day. - Every day.
- People making beer can chicken every day. - Every day. - Andrew. - [Andrew] Yeah. - Why am I asking you a follow-up question? - [Andrew] No, it's fair. - Why does it get bigger? - The reason you blow it up is because you blow it up. and then you insert the semen in. The semen comes out here and this prevents the semen. from escaping the female dog, staying in there long enough to get her pregnant. - It keeps the, it keeps the apparatus stuck. - Do you know anything about the way dogs have sex?
- I can't believe - Because there is an element. of the dogs being stuck together. - [Link] There's a certain style. - Can we do a clip? - No, no. No, there is an element of the dogs being stuck together. and that time that they're stuck together is important. for the dog to get pregnant. So this simulates that by keeping it in there. - Okay, so, Angela is, the medication-. - [Angela] Yeah. - That would go inside. That's optional? - Optional. That's why they, doctors have versions of this. where this comes with that if you need, but usually is to get the organs down there.
moving and grooving. - Okay. - There's basically a two-thirds chance. this is going in a female orifice. That's pretty much-. - Yeah. I mean, I hear that. - [Andrew] Kind of, it's two thirds here. - This is better than my chances. - Hey. - Hey. - Da, da-ra, da. - This is why this show wins a war. - Said by the guy in PJ. - He said what he said. - Angela, do not put that up in your mouth. - He said. - [Link] Stop it.
- No one should be touching this thing. - [Link] I know. It's like everybody's like. - [Angela] My tongue was not out, my tongue wasn't out. - You will be pregnant with a Border Collie immediately, if this goes anywhere near-. - [Angela] Gonna burp at you all. - Oh my god. All right. I got to keep you at bay. - Okay, all Right, all right, all right. Yeah. - [Link] Okay. - Okay. I mean, it's got to be Andrew. I gave it all I got. - [Link] All you got? - [Rhett] I mean, 600, that's all I got. - I gave a thousand confidence. - Okay. - And it could have been Angela, but I believe it's Andrew.
- [Andrew] Wow. - [Link] The breeding of it all, you know? - Yeah. - [Link] The dog breeding. - The breeding. - Okay. Will the please? What? What? - Will the please stand up? - Which one are you is the please? - I think I left a word out. Will the truth teller please stand up? - And woff, woff, bark, bark, you guys are correct? - Unfortunately, I know more about that. Just-.
- I told you. I said it earlier. - Because when I was a kid, there were two dogs that got stuck together. in our neighborhood. - Oh, it was when I described the sex of it. - Yeah. And they were like, yeah, it like inflates. Like there's a bulb. - So she was dragging him around? - There was two dogs stuck together? - Yeah, yeah. Because that, what happened on that thing. is what happens on a dog's penis. - [Angela] Yeah. - [Andrew] Yeah. - Gracious. - Okay, I'm still way behind. If you want to see a behind the scenes, look at this episode right here.
You can do that over on the Mythical Society. It's called "Behind the Mythicality," mythicalsociety.com. - It's lightning round time. When you remove the thingy, then you'll each tell us what it is. No conversation, no questions. - One sentence each. - One sentence. Just say what it is. And we'll wager what we think you're right. - This is a vintage glassblower's grill. - This is a hummingbird feeder. - This is a reheatable massage tool. - And it's that to say this, ignore the house.
That's like unrelated. It was just far part of the photo. Just imagine the house isn't there. - Okay. - And that's not to scale. It's not a real house. What did you say, Jordan? - A reheatable massage tool. - Okay. - A glassblower's grill. - A hummingbird feeder. - 200 points, Andrew. - 700 points, Angela. - It's a glassblower's grill-. - Dang. - Yeah. - What does that even mean? - I don't even know. They spent a long time explaining it to us.
- This is a curl bobbin. - It's a vintage razor blade sharpener. - This is a cowboy hat brim shaping tool. - Is it? - Is it? - A curl bobber? - [Angela] Bobbin. - I'm agreeing with Angela for 100. - I'm agreeing with Angela, for 400 for Angela. - What is it? - Vintage razor blade sharpener.
- How? - Wow. - Don't know. Don't know. - [Angela] There's two marbles and you like, let's go. - [Link] Yeah. - [Rhett] Yeah. - It all comes down to this. It's anybody's game. - Please bet 3,600, Link. - This is an ice scraper for industrial walk-in freezers. - A two-handeder, I see. - Okay. - This is a brownie batter portioning tool. - This is a commercial French fry scooper. - Well, I, for one, am betting it all.
- Oh, yeah. True daily double. - [Link] Okay. - Putting a 100 on Angela. - I am putting 3,300 on Angela. Nothing you can do. - [Rhett] Who is it? - Yes. - All right, yeah, 'cause I can see how the fry bag-. - Why is it got two handles. because you might be right or left-handed? - Huh? Oh. - [Link] That way, that way you don't touch the fries. - [Rhett] Yeah. - Sorry, I just got up and did that because I wanted to.
- They want to make sure that you don't touch the fries. Well, it looks like I win. - Well, congratulations, Link. - And boy, do I have a treat for you guys. - [Jordan] Wow. - Completing the fit that you asked for, how's that? - Link, you get to, you get an item of your choice. - I want the, hmm, I'll take the dog inseminator. - [Rhett] Oh, god. - I'm going to use it as a ranch dispenser. - [Andrew] So, is that to expand your mouth. so more ranch can go in? - Oh! - [Andrew] No.
(Angela screams). - [Link] Yeah, keep your mouth open. - That is disgusting. - It actually is. I'm sorry. - [Angela] That was a hat on. - It's not used. It's not used. We didn't get it off of eBay or did we? - We did. - Oh, we did. - We're all going to have a little Frenchie in nine months. - Oh my gosh. I just won $4,000. For the LA Regional Food Bank. - Thanks for being your mythical best. - You got to say, you know what time it is.
- [Unison] You know what time it is. - Hi, I'm Max. I'm a woman in STEM and I just got done with an experiment. that tests how aged garlic affects our immune system. And it's time to spin the wheel of mythicality. - I believe in women in STEM. - I, I also do. - But, I do more. - I know it's not my thing, but I do. - I do more. - I do. - Well, I also love lesbians. - But it's, but I do more. - Okay, we're going to give away $1,000. to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.
to aid in their mission. to have no one go hungry in Los Angeles County. - And then you put it in. - [Andrew] Okay. - And then you, sorry, I really-. - I kind of wanted to say like, and Rhett, you probably already know this, this is one of your big hobbies, like. - Well, okay, okay.
