Can We Find The Name Brand?
- Are name brand ice cream treats. better than the store brands? - Let's talk about that. (soft swaying music). (soft swaying music ending). Good Mythical Summer. - We're about to see. if we can identify the name brand ice cream treat. But first, this portion of today's episode. is sponsored by AG1, the daily health drink. that combines your multivitamin, pre and probiotics, superfoods, and antioxidants into one simple green scoop. - I don't know if it's obvious to you,
although it should be-. - Uh-huh. - We need a lot of energy to do this show. - Right. I mean, for instance, when Link is talkin' about something, I need the energy to seem like I'm interested in it. - Yeah, like maybe I'll be talkin' about something right now, does Rhett look like he's interested? Mm-hmm. And when Rhett says somethin' that's supposed to be funny, I need to laugh. - Like I'm sayin' somethin' that's supposed to be funny. right now! - Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha! So much energy required! - To help with that energy boost, AG1 has launched AG1 Pro.
- AG1 Pro gives you everything in AG1 Next Gen, plus creatine and additional ingredients. to provide support for muscle preservation. and advanced gut health. - Now, I take creatine every day. It really helps with my energy level. so I can seem interested in Link. With AG1 Pro, you don't have to juggle multiple supplements. It's like a one-stop shop for your energy. - Ha-ha-ha-ha! (Link laughing obnoxiously). - That wasn't supposed to be funny. - AG1 Pro has been shown to support cellular energy. as well as your digestive lining health.
and gut barrier integrity. - Yes. - Your gut health is really important! - Now, this thing- - Check it out. - I wanna take a little step of it. - Good morning. - This tastes like pineapple and vanilla. - It's got 80-plus vitamins, minerals, probiotics-. - That's good. - And whole food ingredients. And through our link, you can get an AG1 Pro Yeti shaker. in your AG1 Pro Welcome Kit. - Yeti. - It sold out so quickly the first time around, I'm told,
that you gotta get it now before it's sold out again. - Yes. And thanks again to AG1. for sponsoring this portion of today's episode. Today is the last day of Beat the Heat Week, and what better way to stay cool. than with an ice cold sweet treat. - But here's the thing. If you think that the name brands are your favorites. because they're better, you might be wrong. Let's see if we can debunk. - [Rhett] It's time. for Knock Off Knockout: Ice Cream Treats Edition. (bright exciting music).
- As you can see, we can't. - [Brittany] In front of you are three generic creamsicles. and one official Popsicle brand Creamsicle. So let's see if you can figure out. which is the name brand by taste alone. - Uh-huh. - [Brittany] And you have the chance to win $400 per round. for your charity. - Agreed. - And the overall winner. gets an additional $3,000 for their charity. - $3,000? - Alright. Uh, that's your water. - How confident are you in this? - I'm not even findin'... - I'm not confident at all. That's why I ask.
- Brittany, thank you for reminding us. that Popsicle is a brand and not just the thing. - [Brittany] You're welcome. - Well, I'll be honest with you. If I were to taste that, and I just did, I would think I'm just tasting the nostalgic orangesicle. - Well, I thought it was gonna be chocolate. (crew laughing). - It's a Dreamsicle, bro. Orange and vanilla. Did you never have this in your house? - Oh, so the vanilla's in the middle? - [Crew Member] Yes. - Didn't you have this in your house?
- Uh-uh. - It was in my house, and you came over to my house. Were you afraid of it? - I was more of a Fudgsicle kind of a guy. Where do I put this back? - On a plate! - Okay. And then here... Am I in number two now? - Yeah, yeah, yeah. You are. Oh, god. Hold on, is this a discard? - Mmm, mmm. Wow. Big difference in these two. I'm tryin' not to use my teeth.
I'm just smushing this against the roof of my mouth, which might give me an ice cream headache, but it doesn't give me deep searing pain. inside of my teeth zones. - Now, you seem like you like this one more. - Well, I was just struck with the difference. It could have been like disappointingly not as good. But one of 'em that I might be pointin' at. is definitely better than the other one. - Whoa. (crew laughing). I have a belief in... (crew laughing).
- No. - Oh, and look, now that part's comin' off. - It's okay, it's okay. - I feel like I got just the outside. - No self-respecting Popsicle brand. would allow this to happen to us! - Yeah, dude, that's not it. I'll tell ya that right now. No one's payin' attention. once this thing leaves the factory. - It's creamy though. - Well, I'm not even gonna find out. - Alright. We have flags, right? - Oh, there's another one. - Oh gosh, that was my glasses!
(crew laughing). - Yeah, but Link, there's a fourth one. - [Brittany] Yeah, Link, you didn't taste the fourth one. - But Brittany, you said three. - No, she didn't. - [Brittany] I said three generic brands-. - No, she said there are three generics and one name brand. - [Brittany] And one official-. - Well, don't be sayin' numbers because... (crew laughing). - [Brittany] Roll the tapes back. In front of you are three generic creamsicles. and one official Popsicle brand Creamsicle. - Okay, I'm gonna just drop this. And I think I'm in the-. - This one's litterler. (stammering) Littler. (crew laughing). - [Brittany] You guys have just made an absolute mess.
- [Rhett] Okay. - Okay, mission accomplished. - Where's my sticky stick? - I'm ready to vote. - Okay. - [Brittany] Alright, place your guesses in three, two, one. (sticks tapping). (crew giggling). - Are we goin' for the same one? - [Brittany] No. - Are we goin' for the same one now? - Okay. - Still no. - I'm goin' for the second one. - [Brittany] Alright. The name brand Creamsicle is on plate number three. - Oh, and I did it.
What? (Rhett laughing) (buzzer blaring). - Well, I don't care. (crew laughing). I didn't taste it. - It was the only one that failed! - I couldn't get to it. - [Brittany] The others were Favorite Day from Target, Signature Select from Vons, and Sunday Shoppe from Aldi. - Well, now I gotta actually taste this one. 'cause I had these as a kid. And I thought that this one. tasted the most like the original. And it did look most like the original.
- This one is the most orange by far. - Which I don't like. And I knew that-. - I just though that the more flavor was the brand name. - I knew that there was way too much orange. to be the original. And I didn't taste the original, so. - You just gave up? - I gave up 'cause I was pissed at it. (crew laughing). Ya know? I'm still pissed. - And even though he's pissed at it, you have to say it does taste the creamiest, which I said at the time. - My friend is right. - Just like Brittany said, three. - It tastes like the first one.
- [Brittany] The comments will be on my side. - That's a good dupe. The Target one's a good dupe. - What I said is also true. You said three. - [Brittany] Three generic brands. - She said three generic, one-. - You said the number three! - And I knew it was gonna fool him when you said it. (crew giggling). - I think it is better, as long as it stays on the stick. - But it doesn't. And I'm pissed. (Rhett chuckling). (bright exiting music). - [Brittany] Next up, you're trying to find. the Dove milk-chocolate-covered ice cream bar. And there are three plates.
plus an additional one plate in front of you. (crew giggling). - Alright, so now you're askin' me to do math. (crew giggling). - Hmm. Now-. - Is it vanilla in there? - We had these at my house too. - Oh, these are tall. This a tall one. - You're gonna have to bite it, bro. (chocolate cracking). My mama had these, she said they were just for her. (Link laughing). - I can bite this one because of the chocolate shell. - Oh man, it's so good. And then the chocolate starts meltin'. And the ice cream.
has made it's way all the way down your throat, and now you just got chocolate in there. Man. - Why you gotta say "all the way down your throat"? - All the way down. 'Cause it's sensual. Chocolate is sensual, man. It's one of the most sensual things that there is. - I'm not complainin' about number one. - I think that chocolate. activates the same part of your brain as sex. - Oh, this one's thin. Look at how thin that is compared... It's almost half the thickness. - Mmm. (chocolate cracking). I got opinions about that one. Primarily that it's not any good. - It is not any good, primarily.
Secondarily, also not good. - Like, the inside and the outside, both bad. - Yeah. - That's like when a person is mean and ugly. (laughing). (everyone chuckling). You know? You can't be both! - Yup. But, he sure is flexible. - Yeah. As long as he got somethin' goin' for him. - I'll give him that! I'll give him that. This one's about as thin as the second one. - Yup. Man. It's a great chocolate shortage over here.
- And the the vanilla in that one is more-. - Flat. Nothin' to write home about. - (stammering) Frozy. - Frozy. Frozy is the word. - It's not creamy. What's the opposite of creamy? - Grainy. Is this... - What, you just want me to feed it to you? - No, I don't want it! (crew laughing). Oh, oh. - Oh, that's a thickie. This one... (crunching). I think this one's almost as thick as the first one, but not quite. Hold on a second. - Hmm.
Hmm, hmm. I gotta go back to my childhood. - Not as much chocolate as the first one. The chocolate is thinner. Hmm. (popsicle tumbling). (crew laughing). - I'm just left voting for, I mean, obviously the one that I think tastes the best, right? - No, no. Because you got to take into account-. - Ooh, but that chocolate... - It's the one that tastes like Dove.
Alright. - Alright. Ha. - Ready to guess? - [Rhett] Yeah! - Of course. - Three, two, one. (signs tapping). - Looks like we're agreeing. - Further to your right, I think. Further, further, because I can hear you, I'm doing echolocation. No, that's the wrong way. To your right. - Okay. - Find my flag and put it next to it. - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. - Okay, I believe he just took my flag out.
- Okay. (laughing) (crew laughing). Alright. - Echolocation. - [Brittany] The Dove ice cream bar-. - How'd you do that? - [Brittany] Is on plate number one. - Yeah. And it's so good! (bell chiming). I mean, like, I just can't even tell you- - And this one-. - That one is- - This one's good though. - It's got the same structural integrity, but not nearly the same taste. The chocolate on the Dove chocolate... (Link slurping ice cream). These should never have been made, these ones in the middle. At least they tried. - [Brittany] The others were Kroger brand,
Great Value from Walmart, and 365 by Whole Foods. - 365 is the only contender. - Man. Mama knew, she knew. She was right. - It's just that the chocolate is so much thicker. - It's too good for a kid, that's why she didn't want us to have it. - Yup, just for her. - Kids got no taste. (bright exciting music). - [Brittany] Next, you're looking for the Chipwich. - Oh, I know about these. - [Brittany] And guess how many plates are in front of you? - Chipwich. Well, I've counted. - Eight divided by two. - Correct. - I counted four.
Okay, I'ma pick up. - Now-. - I'ma measure the thickness. - We used to have these in high school. When they brought in the Trojan Cafe. It was an island in the middle of the cafeteria. that had different things. - They brought in this cafe. that it had all of these soldiers hidden inside of it. - Uh-huh. (chuckling). I get it, Trojan. - Mmm! - Trojan was our high school mascot. We made a lotta condom jokes. It was the kinda thing you had to do.
- That's not bad at all when it comes to cookie. When it comes to cream, I don't know. - I thought it was okay. I though it could be a lot better. - Yeah, it didn't knock my socks off. Well, where does that even come from, "knockin' your socks off"? Is it a boxing parlance? - Well, socks used to not have spandex. 'cause spandex was an invention relatively recently.
- Good point. - So your socks were just hard. (laughing). And they had to be loose fitting so you could get into 'em. So if you pushed somebody hard enough, they'd fly right outta their socks. - Well, that would be knocking you off your socks though. That wouldn't be knockin' your socks off. - But same difference, really. - No, nuh-uh! Knocking you outta your socks. is different than knockin' your socks off! - If I separate you from your... (crew laughing). Oh, that-. - [Crew Member] So, I'm sorry.
Link, you're eating Rhett's plate number one right now. and you have not- - Plate three. - [Crew Member] Plate number three. You've yet to pick up plate number two. - [Person Off Camera] You went to plate three twice. (crew laughing). - Well, wait! Brittany, where are you at in all this? (crew laughing). - [Brittany] I was gonna let it happen. 'cause you haven't been being nice to me. - Are you serious? - But what about me? I'm part of this too! Bring me a fresh one! - Brittany, we agree! You said three, we agree! - It's still not there! - We're on the same side! - It's still not there! Do we have a fresh one?
- [Person Off Camera] No. - [Brittany] Look, you can recover this. - Put it back! (crew laughing). Put the thing back! - Are you talkin' to Brittany? - You! - Don't you talk to Brittany that way. - How? Are you double-fisting cookies right now? - No, man. Look. - [Brittany] Rhett wouldn't yell at me like that. - Don't you yell at Brittany like that. - Hmm. - Mmm. Alright, I know my answer. - [Person Off Camera] You still haven't tried-. - There's another one, you idiot!
- It doesn't matter. (crew laughing). I don't need to taste the first one. - [Crew Members] The second one. - Or the second one. - [Brittany] To be honest, I was not actually paying attention. because I was looking up the origins. of "knock your socks off," and they're not interesting. - (laughing) You were? Alright, I can't wait to hear that later, Brittany, 'cause I'm interested in everything you say. Three. - Okay, alright. - [Brittany] Alright, make your guesses in three, two, one. (stick tapping). - Oh, well, obviously.
- Close enough, okay. - Hold on, hold on. What is that? (crew laughing). - [Person Off Camera] That's your third plate one. - Yeah, that's- - This is that? - [Person Off Camera] Yeah. - What is this? - [Person Off Camera] Oh no, that's the first plate. - Well, I can see that you're right. - [Brittany] Uh, no, I don't think that's-. - It was definitely this one or that one. 'cause it had chocolate chips on it. I knew that it was supposed to have chocolate chips on it. - Oh, I didn't know that. - You didn't even eat it. - I'll do that now. (crew laughing). - Well, that was quite an advantage. It turns out. (laughing) - This is a disaster. - Who's right? - [Brittany] The Chipwich is on plate number four.
So somehow, it's you. (laughing). (Link laughing). - Hey, Brittany, let's start over. - [Brittany] Yeah, let's wipe the slate clean. The other- - From us agreeing. I just don't get it. - [Brittany] The others were 365, Trader Joe's, and Favorite Day. - I don't think that the name brand one is... I know that's not what we're doin', but-. - This wasn't it though. - I don't think it's worth it. I don't think it's that much better. I actually think this one's better.
Where's it from? - [Brittany] Trader Joe's. - It's good. Oh, yeah. That's good. - But the cookie is what told me that this was the best. The cookie's kinda crumbly. - How did you grab two off of the same plate? - I don't know. When I put my blindfold on, things get further away. - Mmm. (crew member laughing). - But the cookie is the best here, and that's what's happenin'. (bright exciting music). - [Brittany] Now. you're looking for the name brand Fudgsicle. And plate four is a little melty. if you wanna get to it first.
- Okay. Yeah, I'm gonna do that. I'm already here. - [Brittany] Because there are four plates. - Oh, I'm not used to this. I don't even know what to do. - This is the one for me. Not this plate, but this round. - I was actually gonna say. this is the worst thing we've had so far, and I haven't even tasted it. 'Cause it tastes like fake chocolate. - I know why you would say that, and I don't necessarily disagree, but good branding. - It tastes just like pudding. - Mm-hmm. Whoa, this is not that! (crew laughing).
(chocolate cracking). Whoa, what? Is this a mistake? This has got a hard shell on it. - Did you already move to the second one? - Second one. - Which is technically the third one. - Oh yeah. Plate number three. - Is coated. - Hmm. (chocolate cracking). It's chocolate shell on chocolate. - But, I don't like the taste of it. - Not lovin' it. And then now we're at plate two. - That Dove bar, that's the peak for me, man.
- What? What's happenin' here? - I'd like to be alone in a bathtub surrounded by candles, eatin' one of those. - (laughing) What? - Oh my god. - I don't wanna let it land on my crotch. What's this? This is a rocket. - That tastes like ice. That tastes like ice that was stored next to chocolate. - There's no chocolate in it, you're right. And then finally, I'm goin' over here. Okay, is this a widey? Mm-hmm.
Alright. Alright. I've done everything I need to do. - So you have a point of reference for this? (crew laughing). - Yeah, I used to eat these. My nanny would keep these in a freezer. Born and raised at a time where freezers didn't exist. - Alright. (crew laughing). - [Brittany] (laughing) Ready to make your guess? - And then I wanna hear about "knock your socks off". 'cause I gotta know what the-. - Hold on, did he already make his guess? - No, I didn't make my guess. - No. - Oh.
- I'm playin' by the rules. - [Brittany] Three, two, one. (stick tapping). - Yeah, go over there. That's where you need to be. This is it way over here, dude. This is it, number four. The one that melts the quickest. (stick tapping). - Oh. Well, I didn't have 'em growin' up. - I could be wrong. - I knew it was shaped like that. That's the only reason I went to it. - It's the most pudding like, yeah. - Here's what I'll say. That one over there? By far the best one. But I just remember them bein' bad, so I just went with the first one.
- You don't need teeth for it. Are we right? - [Brittany] The name brand Fudgsicle. is on plate number two. - What? (buzzer blaring). (crew laughing). - [Brittany] The others were Favorite Day, 365, and Great Value. - Well, what? - So you were gettin'-. - [Brittany] It didn't knock your socks off. - Well, what is the... (stammering). (crew laughing). The wide stuff. - Words. - And this is not what... What? - Hold on, did you have like this? - Uh-uh. - You had like that? - Yeah. - Well, then you had a knockoff even back then. - Nanny gettin' me knockoff.
- Yeah, yeah. (crew laughing). Nanny Knockoff, that's what we call her! - I like this knockoff. You said this is 365? - [Brittany] Great Value. - This is bad, and I think it's a Dove bar. - So Walmart. Now, none of these are great. - What happened here? - This is just weird. So, what's "knock your socks off" origin? - [Brittany] Well, ya know what, it's really not that interesting, which is the unfortunate thing. Everything is just saying that it dates back to the 1800s.
and its origins are in violence. People would beat each other and say, "I'm gonna knock your socks off.". - Well, that's still the origin! - Yeah, I mean... - It hasn't changed! It's pre-spandex! I'm tellin' ya. - [Brittany] Ya know what, I wasn't gonna bring it up. - It's pre-spandex. - What? (crew laughing). (bright exciting music). - If you like the idea of seeing KG annoy Link. by repeating everything that he was saying. right as he was saying, which I really enjoyed, well, that's in the behind the scenes. The "Behind the Mythicality,".
which is exclusively over on the Mythical Society, at mythicalsociety.com. Go watch it. - Highly recommend. - Highly. Is this rocky road? - [Brittany] You're trying to find the Tillamook Rocky Road. - Tillamook? - I had rocky road as a child, but I don't remember Tillamook as a child. - I can't rightly say what's in rocky road. Chocolate chips, marshmallow. - Maybe some nut. I quite like it.
'cause I love the consistency of a marshmallow. inside my ice cream. But I never get it. - I'm judging this based on the quality of the chocolate, unless I experience somethin' else. This one's-. - Dark. - Harder. - Rich. But the marshmallows are really lacking. - They're unnecessary. - I completely disagree. - I think those are walnuts. - Completely disagree with you. - Is a nut a walnut?
- Yeah, it's a type of nut, yeah. - In this? Hmm. Both of those are good. - "Is a nut a walnut?". (crew laughing). Well, not necessarily. - Is the nut. that we're referring to being in rocky road a walnut? - All walnuts are nuts, but not all nuts are walnuts. But you can put your nuts on a wall. (laughing). Ya better watch out! (Link and Rhett giggling). Somebody doesn't sneak up behind ya-. - Like we said-. - Kick ya on the butt! - Kiki on the butt! (Rhett laughing).
This is a tough one though. - Sorry about that joke. - I don't like this one. Which one do I like the most? - I dislike the marshmallows. - Alright, I'm ready to vote for the one that I like the most. - [Brittany] Okay. - 'Cause I don't really care about... Hmm. I don't care for walnuts in my ice cream.
- [Brittany] Three, two, one. - Oh, man. Oh, I gotta go somewhere different. so I have a chance to tie it. - Yup. - I think you're right. - Because the chocolate just tastes so good. - The chocolate is very good, for the record. - But, there's very little of anything else. So I think you've got more than a fighting chance. - [Brittany] The Tillamook ice cream-. - Ah! Hold on! (crew laughing). - Yeah, forfeit. - [Brittany] Thought you were in it. Is in bowl number three. - Oh, yeah! - Yeah, yeah, yeah. (bell chiming). - [Brittany] The others were Signature Select,
First Street from Smart & Final, and Great Value. - It is reassuring. that we picked the brand name a lot of times. I mean, ya know, you're gonna pay more. and it's not just for pretty packaging. I think that's what we've learned. when it comes to these ice creams. - Except for Fudgsicle. - Yeah because that's squirrely, man. There's a thing I remember that's another thing. But I'm feelin' really good about this, congratulations.
- Congratulations to you. - Especially to me. - [Brittany] Yes, you earned the additional $3,000. for the LA Regional Food Bank, plus all of your correct answers. Great job, Link. I hope we can bury the hatchet. - Oh, you know what-. - You hope we can? - I originally chose number three. - [Brittany] (laughing) I hope we can. - Well, yeah, there is no hatchet. - [Brittany] Okay. Then, it's buried. - Give my charity some money. - Three, we both said three. - [Brittany] That's so true. - Thanks for bein' your Mythical best. - You know what time it is. - My name's Corey. This is my brother Gabriel. We're at the Lincoln Park Zoo on vacation in Chicago.
And it's-. - [Corey And Gabriel] Time to spin the Wheel of Mythicality. - Heck yeah, "I'm on vacation!". - Got their "on vacation" shirts! (laughing). Ice cream sandwiches in front of the seals? - Makin' 'em jealous. Alright, we have a very unfun fact. So, it's not really gonna knock your socks off. - Mm-mmm. - Coins are generally circular. and jingle when you shake them. - Socks still on. (crew laughing). Join us in "Good Mythical More".

Get a behind the scenes look at this episode. on "Behind the Mythicality,". exclusively on the Mythical Society. - [Link And KG] You just made this up right now. - She's good at that. She's better at that than you are when we try to do it. - (laughing) Don't light me up now. (Link and KG speaking gibberish competitively).
