Blind Fast Food Burger Taste Test

Do burgers taste the same as they did ten years ago? Let's talk about that. Mythical Morning. Over ten years ago, we did one of our first blind taste tests ever. The blind fast food burger taste test. We think we've eaten so many fast food burgers that. We're experts. We know what burger tastes like what, and we think that we can, blindfolded, I could tell you if that was a McDonald's cheeseburger or a.

Burger King cheeseburger or whatever. Especially if I was in the restaurant. It seemed, would that kind of be a giveaway? But we thought well, let's put this to the test. If we think that we're really good at tasting burgers, let's find out. who is the better burger taster. Me. So much has happened in ten years. Oh, yes. I mean, so many fast food chains have changed certain ingredients. or removed artificial additives or adjusted the way that they make stuff. And, more importantly, we just want to see if we've gotten any. better at guessing after doing a decade's worth of taste tests.

We're not the same people we used to be. We're so different! Well, that's the question. If we did the exact same taste test, will we be any better, or will we be worse? Hmm, well let's see if present us can kick past us's burger tasting butts. It's time for Oops! I Bit It Again! Fast Food Burger Taste Test Volume 2. Round 1! Okay boys, you're going to taste and rate the exact same burgers you had way back.

in 2014, and guess where they're from. Your options are Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, In N Out, and Carl's Jr. You'll taste them all in the exact same order that you did last time. And also, just like last time, all of the burgers will be served via the. still patent pending Burger Plank. Okay. And just so you know, last time out of the five burgers, Rhett, you got one right. Ha ha ha! Link, you got two right.

Okay, so you can do any better. Maybe I'll improve. You mean to tell me that McDonald's existed in 2014? Can you believe it? Can you believe it? Well, as you can see, we can't. Alright, let's bring in the first burger. Ah, we brought it in on a plank. Huh? Oh. Oh, that. Good gracious. Too much burger. That's too much burger.

How big do you think my mouth is? Mm. Okay. This is obvious. This feels so easy to me. Pretty confident. Pretty confident. Been to this place a few times. I mean, I feel like this is just gonna be so easy. Well, give me something. How does it taste? What's memorable about it? It tastes like a burger. Last time you only got one right, man. It was probably this one. How could it not be this one? There's something so distinct about this.

Everybody knows what it is. Everybody knows how you talk about it. They always say the same thing. Sometimes it's on the side. I know you're gonna get it right. I'm gonna get it right. We might as well just go ahead and rank it. Well, yeah, you have to rate it first. And back in 2014, we didn't do the rating part. So this is a new thing. We've gotten so much better! This is a decent burger. Um, it hits the spot. I'm gonna give it a six. I'm gonna also give it a six. That's right. Cause it's just good enough to be like, I'm gonna eat it.

But there's so many better burgers than this. Yep, yep. And we know where it's from. Give us a countdown. It's so easy. 100 percent confident. One Burger King. Carl's Jr. You idiot! You see why you lost so bad last time? You thought that was Burger King? Yes, it was. Yeah, we know our burgers, buddy. We're both wrong. Yeah. That's my face. I felt a five coming. Five should be up here. Up here. Up here. This is five region. Right here. Round two.

Okay, before we get to the next burger, I did want to let the Mythical Beasts. know that our new crew tournament for 2025 is about blind taste tests. So, the crew has made guesses on how well you'll do today, and they'll. continue to do that throughout the year to compete to win a special poster of. themselves that we put up in the office. Because we don't want to give out snacks anymore. And the snack. Oh! Um, despite how, um, much issue you took with Selene's.

choice for 2025. Budget issue? The, uh, snack is on the table for 2026. Okay, let's bring in the next burger. Oh man, huh? My confidence is shaking. Ooh, let's have a look. The pickle almost flew off the back! Oh. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. That's a big burger. I'm trying to isolate different parts of the burger. This is the same one as round one.

Very bread forward. You got, there's a lot of bread. A lot of bread and a lot of pickle happening. Okay, alright. The burger is a four. I'm gonna give the burger a three. And now I'm rethinking everything about my round one. Are you rethinking everything about your guess for round one? Or are you thinking about your score for round one? Because you've really gotten into my head. My guess. And now that it's gone, I can't taste it anymore. I feel like I need another bite. Of the same burger.

Can't do it. We didn't do that ten years ago. We can't do it now. If we're anything, we're men of precedent. You gotta hope that there's still enough in your molars to get some information. I have some. Give me a second. Okay, well. Got it. It's very, a lot of mustard. You don't like mustard? A lot of mustard. Ten years past, he hates mustard. And you're both saying that this burger's like half as good as the first one? Yeah. Yeah, it just wasn't good. What is that?

It's too mustard y. Okay. Three, two, one. Carl's Jr. So hold on, so the first one was Burger King. Right? What, right? Yeah. Was it? I don't know, you've got me so confused. Round three. Okay. More burger. More. Oh. Huh? Wait, is this it? Mm hmm.

Huh. What is going on? I felt like I was gonna know what that was. What was that? I've lost all confidence. I knew I was gonna be good at this, but I know I'm bad now. They put a burger in my mouth, I tasted it, and I know what it is. How much more entertaining are we now? We've come so far. A lot, right? A lot. I mean, we are just, they're on the edge of their seats, Rhett. We may not be better at guessing burgers, but we're better at, uh, entertaining. I mean, listen. Did you hear what he just said? We may not be better at guessing burgers, but we're better at entertaining.

He said it again. In case you didn't hear it. I would have never said anything like this ten years ago. This is a decent burger. Um, you know what? I'm so confused, man. I know, it's, it's not, it's not as good as I thought it should be, but. I'm still gonna give it an eight. Wow. I'm giving this one a six as well. It's a bit of a yep, okay. You think that this was gonna be a.

Yep. I know what this one is. That makes me think that you think that you know what this is. Okay. Nope. I'm not doing anything. Three, two, one. What? McDonald's! In N Out! Ha ha ha, you fool! Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Ha ha ha! Round four! You feel like you know what burgers are gonna taste like, and then you. put the blindfold on and you become like an alligator that's being calmed. Ew. I eat less burgers now than I did ten years ago.

That's my problem. Because I'm aged. Oh. Oh. Okay, yeah. That's obvious. I think I know what the problem is with me. I never order just a single cheeseburger. That's why I'm feeling like the bread's coming on too strong. If I'm gonna get a burger nowadays, I'm gonna get a double. Yeah. Ratio's all off. The onions?

The ratio's all off, man. Onions are speaking to me. Um. The mustard and the ketchup. I like the way this comes together. I'm gonna give it a 7. Talking to me. I'm gonna give it a 7. 7 minutes in heaven. I'm gonna give it an 8 too, because the cheese just came and gave me. a little, a little tongue treat. When you say 2, are you talking about yourself from the previous round? Myself from the previous round and from 10 years ago, when I also would. have given it , we didn't do that.

Okay. Yep. Okay. I know what this one is now. Yep. Yep. Definitive one. I would bet. Rhett's left toe on it. Yep. You choose. On, on what? On. Oh, on. You both getting it right? No, just on me getting it right. Yeah. I'm gonna get this one right. 3, 2, 1. McDonald's. 3, 2, 1. McDonald's, because how could I not get that right? How could you not get it right? Round five. I know what you've been doing.

You've been looking at my pocket and wondering, what. has he done with his pocket? And what I've done with my pocket is I've put the very new Rhett and Link Mini. Blindfold Pins or Blindfold Mini Pins. There's two of them. They come in a little set. We've got my blindfold. We've got Link's blindfold. These are available only for 24 hours at mythical.com. Own a piece of history. These are in the Smithsonian. The Svesvonion. Okay.

I'm ready for tasting. Oh, there it is. Oh, huh. I know the comments are gonna be like, Ew, there's chewing noises. They're driving me crazy. What is that? That is not from any place. Y'all made that. That could be from anywhere. It's not distinct. It's just like, If you say the word burger, this is what I would taste if. you didn't tell me what it was from.

This is what I would taste in my mind's stomach. I think it's a nice, solid 7. For a burger. I agree with that. Too much mustard though. Too much mustard. And I was searching for too much mayonnaise because to. me that means Burger King. And I didn't get that today. Nope, you didn't. I don't think they put mayonnaise on their cheeseburger, unless. Oh, really? I think you have to ask for it. I don't know. I'm just making stuff up. You're making stuff up. Just like I did ten years ago.

They can't not put mayonnaise on stuff, but I got this one. All right. Three, two, one. Wendy's! Totes, obvs, we've got this. Okay, so I think Link may have gotten five out of five. Well, okay, reminder. The score is Rhett, one. Link, two. What? We suck! What? We're horrible! Only thing I got right is McDonald's. I got McDonald's right. That was 2014. I've done so much better.

I feel like you've maybe gotten five out of five. Well, I didn't. Uh, Burger King. What if I said that you doubled your score in 2025, baby? Yes. Yes. Two to four. Oh, so I have two. Yes. Four. That's what I mean. You had one. Now you had two. You had two. Now you have four. That's pretty good. Whenever you improve, Rhett, I improve more, but we gotta do the combo rounds. Right? Well, here's the thing. We back in the day. had some Franken burger rounds.

Which we don't do anymore. So we're, we're bringing them back, and the buns are gonna be from one. restaurant, and the meat and cheese are gonna be from another restaurant. So two, two choices, not three. Okay. Franken burgers! Okay, so you're gonna have two guesses then. The bun and the meat and cheese, so there's two points up for grabs. Okay. Okay, let's go ahead. Bring it.

I'm gonna get a little stuffy right here in my mouth. I don't need that much bread. I'll throw it outside. Ah, I'm so confused. Okay, isolating that burger. Hmm. Ah, yep. I can't remember it now. Okay. Okay, I'm gonna go buns first. Well, I'm not quite ready.

Buns or bun? Buns. Okay, I'm ready. Three, two, ones. Oh, you the bun. Okay. Meat and cheese. 3, 2, 1. - Carl's Jr. - In and Out. Oh. Oh yeah. Wow. So there must be some In and Out in there somewhere. Somebody tasted it.

Okay, let's, uh, Frankenburger it up one more time. Again? FRANKENBURGER?! Hmm. Ah. Last one. Trying to pull it apart again. Are you pulling it apart? I'm trying. Gotta chipmunk that. Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. I'm just tasting the burger right now. Yep.

I got that. Ha ha! I think I got it! Who has the best burger if you isolate it? I think that would be Wendy's. But, okay. Buns. 3, 2, 1. McDonald's! Wooooowee! Okay, we agree on that. Okay, meat and cheese. 3, 2, 1. Wendy's! In and out. I didn't think it was as good. That was a good burger. I think it was Wendy's Beef. Square burger. I think maybe.

I don't know. Could've been. Could've been. Could've been. Shall we find out? Okay, so, um, you know, after the Franken rounds of your uh, it, it. wound up being Rhett with three points, Link with five points. Okay, so I got one point, he got one more point. And, and I will say, there was another Frankenburger round back. then, and we don't have time for that. Nope. So, you know, first of all, y'all need to go watch that 2014 episode, uh, anyway, if you want to see the full thing, but. Do it. Today.

Rhett, you have five. What? You got three right in the last thing. In the Franken rounds. What? Link, I got five? You have. Five as well. What? Which means you are now both the King Burgers. Oh my gosh, look at what we did. Call it a comeback. Yeah, I let the door open for ya.
