Blind Chicken Finger Taste Test
What's the best fast food chicken tender? Let's talk about that. Good Mythical Morning. Guess what's happening tomorrow? We finally get to officially drop our children's book, Spaghetti. Head and Chicken Fingers. Yes, tomorrow, June 16th. Thank you. June 16th. You can get this wherever you get books. You can also get it at mythicalbooks.com.
It's a beautifully illustrated book. Beautifully, beautifully. For the, for the kids. Man, I'm just, I'm just wanting to tell you all about how beautiful it is. For the picky kid in your life, or the non-picky kid in your life, or if. you're just a kid at heart, this is all about taking the "you are what you eat". saying to its silliest extreme possible. Mm-hmm. All right, mythicalbooks.com, get it. Yes, super excited about that. I can't take these off because they're, uh, they're permanently glued to my f- hands.
Oh. We'll work on that in a second. Speaking of chicken fingers, here's a fun fact. Did you know that all chicken tenders can be considered chicken. fingers, but not all chicken fingers can be considered chicken tenders? Look it up. It's true, Wikipedia. Huh. Another fun fact is that it's been seven years since we did a. chicken finger taste test, and who knows what's changed since then. It's time for Oops, I Bit It Again: Fast Food Chicken Finger Taste Test, Volume Two.
As you can see, we can't. Hey, fellas. What up? Today you're gonna be tasting chicken fingers from, in no particular order, KFC, Popeyes, Church's, Carl's Jr., McDonald's, and Raising Cane's. And, to make things a little more interesting, we're throwing in two new. restaurants that you didn't have last time. Okay. Jack in the Box and Wendy's. Okay. All right. They're all gonna be served via the still patent pending Chicken Finger Bringer Finger.
And last time, Rhett, you got three correct, and Link, you got two. Ooh. Let's see how you do this time. Not great. Bring in the first one. Uh-huh. Hmm. Delicious. Mine didn't want to come off. Hm. I got like a thin, crunchy end of a chicken tender. Me too. Boy, that's a crunchy one.
Oh, wow. Very crunchy finger. It's very homemade tasting. Wouldn't you say? I like the flavor. I do think it has a homemade flavor. It doesn't taste like it's trying to be too spicy. A little stringy. But it was stringy. On a scale of one to 10. Hm. Maybe it gets big on the other end and we just both got the s- this, the tiny end. The tiny end of the tender. I'm gonna give it a four. Below average.
You know what? I'm gonna agree with you on that. I'm not a fan of this one. I think I know where it's from. And I think I know the flavor profile. I'm gonna say four. Oh, yeah. Four for the, for that. All right, we're ready. Okay, time to guess where those chicken fingers are from in three, two, one. Church's. Carl's Jr. Oh. Ooh. Carl's Jr. That's a good guess. They, they go big. That's a good guess though. They go so big. You think they go big? But I would think the Church's Chicken just because all of the church crowd is. coming from, you know, church on Sunday and they want the big chicken, right? That's why they call it Church's, right? Is that how it is? The church crowd? I don't know. I think it's someone's last name actually.
Oh, okay. Well, like Eric Church. Mm. More fried chicken. Okay. I think our feeders might also be wearing blindfolds. Gracious. Oh. It's a big one. Mm. Hmm. Got a little hard, little hard part in this one.
Mine's got a little hard part too. Not a lot of seasoning here. I feel like they coulda done more. They're, they, I think they're trying to let the chicken sing a little too much. Yep. Yep, and it's just clucking. I don't know if they have my trashcan. I'm blindfolded. I'm just feeling underwhelmed- Yeah, like, okay … for a second round in a row. Is this our problem? I, I hope not. I don't think so. Like, why are these not better? This is just four again. Four again. Four again.
Like, what is happening? And this one's, like- It was bigger. Similar … but it tasted like the same thing, but maybe a little bit less flavor. I do, I, I got confirmation, they are both chicken, so maybe. that's why they taste similar. Okay, got it. Okay, yeah, yep, yep. All right, do you have a guess? But we have higher expectations than what we're getting so far. Our expectations are so high. All right, fine. All right. Three, two, one. Church's. Hey. Hey, you- I knew you'd come around. You d- I did, and you just stick with Church's, all right? I knew you'd come around. Hey, listen, if I say Church's every time, you know how many.
I'm guaranteed to have right? Yes. One. I'm not gonna say Church's again, even if I think it is. There you go. Yeah. Mm. Uhhuh. Now we're to some flavor. Mm. There, there's a little something in this- That's a good piece of. chicken … something in this batter. Is this not reminiscent of something?
Uh- Of a chicken tender from this place? Well, maybe you know a little bit more than I do. Uh- It could be better, but it's be- but it's way better than the last. Six. Y- you just gave it a six? I'll give it a seven. Okay. I mean, that's why there's two of us. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Alright. Law of averages. I think I'm ready. Okay. Three, two, one. McDonald's. KFC. No. Whoa. KFC? Yes. First taste right there, bam, it had it.
No doubt. That didn't have the 11 herbs and spices. Bam, it had them right there at the beginning. They… All 11? I didn't taste 11 herbs. I thought I tasted at least 10. No. They do something a little different with their tenders I think. There's still 11 herbs and spices though. I didn't taste them. I, but I don't think they're allocated all to the tenders. You think they only do nine? Seven or nine, yeah. Seven to nine. Gotta be in the e- an odd number. Should've said Church's. They just keep coming.
I can sense when the chicken is close to me. Oh. I can sense when it's gone- Feels like, yeah, you can use- Gone for the. crotch … one of your senses really well. Hmm. That got so close to landing in your mug. What is happening over there? Mine fell off in my crotch. Where'd yours go? Mine almost fell off, but I got it. That is a chicken freaking tender.
Hmm. It's a big piece of juicy chicken. You did it. You did it right. Uh, are you loving this, like eight or nine territory? Hold on. I'm getting something. I'm actually tasting something in the meat itself- Can I have another bite? … that is telling me where it's from. And it's- We're working on it … it's not quite as good as it is without a blindfold.
I am going for- Stay in the moment … a seven. That's what my coach told me. I'm giving this a seven. He's like, "Once you get into the defensive stance, you gotta stay…". What, what is even happening? Hmm. Mm-hmm. Can, can you wrap it up? Wha- what did you do? Eat another bite? No. Yes. Eight. All right. Okay. I'm, I'm ready. Time for your guess in three, two, one.
Popeyes. Popeyes. It, the meat- The meat's good, brother … tasted like a Popeyes meat. Not just the breading. I want… What did you give it? Seven. I wanted to give it, I thought I would give Popeyes a nine or a 10 going into this. Mm-hmm. And it just wasn't as poppin' as Popeyes can be. Mm-hmm. But it was the best one I've had so far. Maybe eight is our new 10. We'll have to see. You know how you'll sneak things from Jack in the Box all the time? You like to go to Jack in the Box sometimes.
I hear about that. Uh-huh. You been going lately? This is a softer breading. Mm-hmm. I have not. Oh, God. Peppery. Not as crunchy. It's on the, it's on the floor. Wow. For such a soft breading with a lack of crunch, it's bringing a lot of tastiness.
Why is it so peppery? Why not? I love that. No, I, I, I do love it, but I'm … I guess maybe what I'm. saying is who does it so peppery? Who does it so peppery? I don't know, but-. I'm giving it an eight. I like black pepper. I wanted it to be a little bit crispier. I'm gonna give it a seven. I ain't even a fr- I ain't even mad at it not being crispy. Okay. All right. I, I have a, I have a clue. Three, two, one.
Wendy's. KFC. I think I tasted the 11 herbs and spices, man. I think they just showed up to the party. I think that was them. You know, Wendy's has got about nine spices. The, the pepper was so peppery, and it's the same pepper taste that the gravy. has, the gravy and the mashed potatoes. Why would they do that? I don't know. I'm not, I'm not the colonel. Why wouldn't it taste like the other chicken from KFC? Despite the fact that- Why would they make tenders that taste like their. potatoes when they- No, it, I think it tasted like the chicken, too.
Okay, fine. There's just something glorious about a chicken tender, though, you know? That's why so many kids love them. Oh. That just dropped in my crotch too. Boy my- Yeah, I really understand why these are still patent pending. My crotch is getting fed today, y'all. Mm. Why's it so hard? This one has tremendous character.
It's way too salty. Mm-hmm. Super salty Like a crazy amount of salt But it's kinda like fun salt. Fun. You need to drink something. It's, it's, it reminds you, stay hydrated. Huh. I'm gonna give it. A seven. I'm giving it a seven as well. 'Cause I- I like the flavor profile, but it- Chi- … I want it to be juicier. Fried chicken needs to be salty.
Okay. Three, two, one. Raising Cane's. KFC. KFC. Oh. That's KFC, man. Well it's- It tasted just like the chicken. It tasted very peppery, which i- is, you make a good point. But I, I mean, I'm not 100% sure, man. Well, I am. Okay. Okay, okay. Get a little more. Uh-huh. Oh my goodness. Mm-hmm.
That's a long and pointy one. Hmm. Tasted very fast food-ish. I'm gonna give it a five. Five? I'm, I was, I'm right there with you. Um, it's, there, there's not much to say about it. It was hot. It was chicken. I mean, I would- But you want the spicy … it would, it would. satisfy me if I was hungry. Um. All right. Let's guess where it's from, though, in three, two, one. Jack in the Box. Raising Cane's. Ooh, Rais- you think Raising Cane's is that mid tier, huh?
I, I just, I don't. I love Raising Cane's, but I insist on eating it right there at the store, and. that Comeback sauce is just the best. You, you don't think it has a lot of spice on it, is what you're saying? No. Okay. That's news to me. Okay, one more. Mm. Uh uh. Big daddy. Whoa.
Whoa. Crunchy and huge. That's us. Hmm. Huge and crunchy. Hmm. Interesting. Don't love it. I don't know what to think of it. The breading is just a missed opportunity here. Just went in a wonky direction with it. If you don't love it, what, what was the whoa, whoa that you gave it?
It was so crunchy. And big. It was big and crunchy. Huge and crunchy. Okay, just for huge and crunchy. Huge and crunchy. That's all it was. I think, but, but then I got into it and I was like, "Oh, it's a little bit dry." But I, I actually, I like the crunch on the outside. Ah. So I'm gonna give it a six. Uh, I'm going to four. Okay. What have I not guessed? Doesn't matter. All right, I think I know what this is. Okay, ready? Three, two, one. Carl's Jr. Carl's Jr. We agree. Yeah, 'cause they have a big- That's a- … they have a big, crunchy one. That's a great way to end it.
They have a big crunchy one. All right. Let's see what happened. I feel like I did so much better than seven years ago. So, Rhett, you got two correct. Oh, God. You got worse, dude. And Link, you got two correct. Oh. The same. Man. Which makes both Huge and Crunchy our winners. That means that you'll get the same prize as last time, the masked finger, a special mask made out of chicken feet.
Why did we do this? Oh, my God. Okay. And because, uh, y- you wear the masked finger, you have to put your mask on. and, uh, sing us a little song please. Uh, copyright issues, man. Just make it up and don't make it copyright. We are the two guys, Big and Crunchy. I'm Big. Some call me Huge. Some call me Crunchy. Some call me Crunchy. We eat chicken tenders and we have opinions about them.
My mask is so heavy. If I let go of it, it will fall. Woo. Um, can you bring in what we thought was the…. First of all, which ones did I guess correctly and which. one did he guess correctly? So you, Rhett, got round one correct, which was Church's. Okay. Okay. That one, uh, you each gave a four to. Uh, 'cause it was like- Uh, definitely middling for you … homemade. Disappointing. Yeah. And then you both got round four correct with Popeyes. Yeah. Uh, and that was tied for your favorite, where Rhett you gave.
it an eight and Link a seven. Yep. Yeah. And then you guys reversed scores for the next one. 'Cause what did I give an eight to? You gave an eight- What did I get? … to the next round, McDonald's. What? This is McDonald's? McDonald's is the one that's less textured. Yeah. That one, yeah. The one that's a little soft. And Link got- But neither of you got that one right … did he get KFC right? Link got KFC right- Okay … in round six. So that's KFC. And what was the one that I said was KFC? Do you know that? The peppery one- McDonald's … before that.
That was McDonald's? McDonald's has pepper. That's it right there? Yeah, that's the McDonald's. Uh-huh. Yep. And last time you did not like it. Soft and peppery. I'm, I'm not loving this, uh, chicken tender. No. They've changed their recipe. And this is Popeyes? That's KFC. Uh- How did we get K- KFC wrong? I think it's Popeye's. Oh. It's so… You got it right. That's Popeyes, yeah. I got it right. Those are your two favorites, Popeyes and, uh, McDonald's. That's KFC. No, that is- No … that is Popeyes.
That's KFC. Y'all gave us the wrong one. 100% sure. Yeah. Yeah, this is KFC because it tastes like the extra crunchy. Extra crunchy crispy. Mm-hmm. Yeah. It's just been too long since I ate there. Um- So that, yeah, that's Popeyes. Uh- It is not- That's not Popeyes. All right. Well, they, I mean, you mix it up later. Yeah, I'm sure you did it right the first time. Did I get KFC right? Yes, he did. Yeah. But, and this is- KFC- This is still KFC … you got right, and. then you both got Popeyes right.
And what did we give to- Bring out the Popeyes. What, what was the score that we gave to Raising Cane's? For Raising Cane's, that was the second one you tried, which you also both gave fours to. We gave Raising Cane's low. Yeah, you guys were, were disappointed- Bring out the Raising Cane's … in. Church's and Raising Cane's. Right. Yeah, this is Popeyes. I can- Oh, you can look at it and tell it's Popeyes. Yeah, yeah, look at that. Yeah, yeah. It look, it looks like a fried piece of fish. Yeah, yeah, and it's got the, uh, it's got the seasoning. Y'all think we're crazy, but I'm telling you, man. And you, you didn't like Raising Cane's the first time either. Oh, bring out Raising Cane's.
I love Raising… Popeyes Chicken-. Yeah, they've injected it with something and I don't like it. You don't know that. It just fee- it's, it's a little too salinated. This is Raising Cane's. Yeah. It's very homemade. No flavor. Like, what happened? Nothing to it. Need a comeback sauce.
Did people know this already? So blindfold off, KFC and McDonald's are the best. KFC was the second, or the second most highest rated. Mm-hmm. You ha- gave, each gave that a seven. Yeah, we both liked that one. Mm. Well, what did we learn here today? That- All right … I'm a little bit worse than I used to be, and. you're basically exactly the same. Yep. The l- the more things change… The more they stay the same. Or… Thanks for commenting and sharing this video.
