Are These New Products Worth It?
- Can new products really outdo the old ones? - Let's talk about that. (light music). (air whooshes) - Good Mythical Morning. - Whoa, it's Halloween week. Or it's Halloween at the end of this week on Saturday. So we are beginning to celebrate early. with a giant bucket of... - Bowl of giant candy. - Bowl is a bucket or whatever. You know, it's a pail.
A pail. That's what my mama called them. - We've got some giant candies here. Would you like the candy? You have to dress up. Get yourself together. I mean, this thing is full, top to bottom, I'm sure. - It is. (Rhett knocking). Some innovations are life-changing. and they peak early, like the wheel or sliced bread. or those hilarious prank hand buzzers that everybody loves. No new version necessary for those. - Uh-huh. But some new products actually do outperform the classics, and we are here to help you find out.
which do and which don't. - Now, I'll shake on that. - Is there a buzzer in your hand that you want me to shake? - Maybe. (crew laughing). - It's time for (air whooshes). New Tool or Old School? (air whooshes) Spatulas. They're pretty useful, but do... You want me? I can see it. I can see it right there. - [Rhett] Yeah, that's a ring.
- All right. I mean, you gotta say something to motivate me. to shake hands with you. - Hey, nice to meet you, fella. (crew laughing). - Good to meet you, too. (buzzer buzzing). You gripped so tightly that it didn't even buzz that long. - Oh. - It left a mark. I was saying spatulas- - Okay. - Are pretty useful, but do you ever wish. they could be more than useful? - Well, that's where the Bluebosti Adaptchula Spatula. that Link has here, it might come in handy. It's a spatula that claims to adapt to just about anything.
by bending at different angles. Now, you see I have the Old School one here. It is locked into what I would say. is about a 30-degree angle. - And this one can go all over the place. You're supposed to pull these off and just. put the other one on. - They are making a big deal. about this. And I have seen, I don't know if it was this one, but something like this. They pick the stuff up really easy, like the eggs and the condiments and whatnot. - Yeah. - You know what I'm saying? I've seen that, but I haven't seen this one-. - That's how they market this. - That can maybe turn and be other things.
'Cause they say that you can chop, spread, cut, flip, serve, and scrape. - But it has two heads. I'd call that two spatulas, one handle. That'd be a great video. (crew laughing). 24.99 for this thing. - Already seen it. - We have some lasagna here. And we are going to compare. your old tool to my new school tool here. - Well, so show me what you're gonna do, and I'll see if I can do it. - So what do I wanna do first? I want to...
- Cut and serve. - It says that you can cut it this way. I don't want all of this. I just want part of it. Okay. That kind of worked. - Oh. Oh. - Oop. I looked away and I pushed too hard and it went over. They say that when you want a different angle, you're not supposed to move it. You're supposed to take it off. and then put it back on at a different angle. That is the stupidest instruction ever.
No one's gonna do that. So I've already- - I've made a mess. - Encountered some mess myself. But then I'm gonna do a little... Look at that. - Look at that. (crew laughing). - But if it was deep in a hole or something. I wonder if I have the capacity... - [Crew] Like a casserole dish. - Yeah, if it was, like, if it was deep in a casserole hole. - Okay. I understand that particular application. - So, like. (spatula bangs). Oh yeah, look at that.
- I mean, who cuts it? - That didn't work. It's not holding the weight of a serving of lasagna. That's how I eat. - I can't have lasagna. just sitting there in front of me like that. and not eat a little bit of it. - And I eat with a spatula when Christy's out of town. It's one less thing to wash. - Okay, well. - This is the weight limit. - I would say, considering that could. be in a casserole dish,
you have a slight advantage. Slight advantage. But I didn't have to touch my spatula and rearrange it. Well, let's do the thing where we try. to pick up eggs and condiments. - Yeah. Well, I mean, we gotta clean this off a little bit. I'm gonna push that over. Oh, look at that. I got a nice little bulldozer action. I bet you couldn't do that with yours. (spatula scraping). (spatula scraping) - [Rhett] No, I can. - I want this to be clean enough so that... Oh my God, I cracked an egg on this.
And now I've decided that I don't want it here. - That would be the scenario. (spatula scraping). Well, you're doing great. - How did they do it? Okay. (egg thuds). (spatula scrapes). It's too runny. I don't know how they did it. I mean, and why can't you do it with that spatula? It's not any different, dude. Yeah. - I also can't do it.
- You have to do it against your lasagna. - Are they doing it on some, like, really, really slick surface? Is that, like, that doesn't represent a surface. that you're actually going to be operating on? I mean, there's no way. I need two spatulas. - I mean, they also did the trick with condiments. - I've really made a mess. I've really made a mess. - So now what are we gonna do? - What if we did it directly on the desk. 'cause the desk has, like, a glossy-. - Okay. - A glossy sort of finish.
Maybe that's more indicative. - And I wanna get all this off of here first. - [Rhett] Okay. - This is just dumb, isn't it? Isn't this dumb? And you got it. See, now. And then let me see. (spatula bangs). (crew laughing). Yeah. - I mean . - I do like the fact that mine starts like this. and then I can push down (spatula scrapes). and then it comes up. (spatula tapping). I like that. (spatula tapping). - I mean. - I'm not really sold. on this thing yet.
- Is yours better than mine? I mean, this thing probably costs $5. - For some reason, they say you can chop carrots with it. (carrots thud). I know you can't chop a carrot with your thing. - Is this like if you went camping. and you forgot everything you meant to bring. and all you have is the spatula? - All I need in my kitchen is a spatula. - Okay. - And this is how they do it. They put it at 180 degrees. and then they just say you can chop carrots.
(spatula bangs). - You can. - You can. - Oh, you really can. (spatula banging). Okay, let me see if-. - I'm trying to see how thin I can get it. - Let me see if I can do it. - [Link] No way. No way. - [Rhett] But look, I took a little chip out of it. That's interesting. - [Crew] Oh, it's a little Jewish carrot. - If you want one of those. (Rhett laughing). - I get it. - If you want one of those. (spatula bangs) - [Rhett] Oh, that did it. - This isn't sharp. This is the safest way for me to chop. (spatula banging).
- Yeah, I mean, it works for that, but I would be a little bit embarrassed. to watch somebody do that in a kitchen. I'm a little embarrassed to watch you do it. Like, "What are you doing?". "I'm just chopping the carrots, man.". (spatula bangs) Like, again... - It's an illustration of how strong it is, but it's not anything you would ever do. - Okay, so a slight advantage with the lasagna. Neither of us were able to do the egg. Pretty much even on the condiments. and you are able to chop carrots, but it's embarrassing to watch you do it. (air whooshes) (upbeat music). So we're gonna say spatulas. (buzzer buzzes) - [Together] Old School. (upbeat music) (air whooshes).
- The reason we have our wonderful dogs. is because we're going to be testing. this two-in-one pet comb and blow dryer. from Sharper Image. - Sharper Image. They've got a-. - They're still doing it. - They've got a good rep. - Still doing it. - Seems like something's coming out of there. that might be more useful than the spatula was. Sean, are you chilling? - No. When Sean is on set... In fact, we just had a meeting and he was in it. And at home, he's not constantly just going (pants). And some people have pointed out, yes, it's anxiety.
Yeah, he's excited. As soon as he gets into the car in the morning, he starts doing this panting, and I think it's a nervous excitement. - Yeah, he's happy. - And it will continue. until he gets home and then he'll close his mouth again. - Mm-hm. Mm-hm. - This thing is 77.99. - Okay. - It's got multiple temperatures. It's got a fan built in. And it has a low base background noise. to help keep pets comfortable. Maybe it'll calm Sean down and he'll close his mouth. - Low base.
- So what we're gonna do is this is basically. once you've bathed your dog and they're a little bit wet. So we're gonna take... This just regular water. - Yeah. - Don't get alarmed. - I have the Old School here, which is... We have one of these at home. Whenever I push this button to release the hair. that's accumulated, (button clicking). Saka, the cat who lives with us, hears this and comes running. So we use this on Saka, but I don't really use this on Jade much. But I will bathe Jade at home, and it is difficult.
You do need to brush and blow dry-. - Right. - In order to get. her coat completely dry. - Okay. So I'm coming right here. Well, it's locked up on me. - See, you got one hand. So the problem is you're blow drying and you're brushing. - Yeah. (bottle spritzing). - You're not using the spray side, you're using the squirt side. (crew laughing). - He's like, "Dad, what are you doing, man?". - So I wanna see what's happening here. - Okay, so this is in Celsius.
I have 35 degrees. And I'm going to turn it on. (blow dryer humming). - [Link] Is that the low based background noise? It's just the blow dryer noise. - [Rhett] It can get louder. (blow dryer humming). - He doesn't seem to care. (blow dryer humming). So there's a hole where the air comes out of. (blow dryer humming). - It's not drying him. - And then you brush above that.
- He's also pretty well groomed right now. - Yeah, he is. (blow dryer humming). - It's just kind of flattening the wet spot. (blow dryer humming). I think the reason that he's not having a problem with this. (blow dryer humming). is the fact that he's actually the model for this. (crew laughing). - [Link] Well, that's like the older, grayer version. - He's been moonlighting for this. I'm going back in, Sean. (blow dryer humming). I'm gonna see if I can actually get him dry. Like, it's still... (blow dryer humming).
I'm gonna send the temperature up-. - Oh, look at all that. (blow dryer humming). - To 40 degrees Celsius. and I'm going full blast. (blow dryer humming). - I didn't wet Jade because she's gonna be mad. Sorry, Jade, but I'm not... (blow dryer humming). - You didn't even wet her? - I didn't even wet her. Should I have wet her? - Well, yeah, if you want it to be a real test. (blow dryer humming). Because this is not working at all. (blow dryer humming). It's still soaking wet.
- This isn't working too great either. But boy, do I love these base background noises. (blow dryer humming). - Okay. - Jade does not like. to get a bath. (blow dryer humming). - I worked that same spot for several... I mean, that was at least a couple of minutes. and it's still completely wet. I'm sorry, buddy. You're gonna have to go to that woman in the picture. and she'll fix you up. - Check that out. You can build a sweater out of that, if you want it. - Oh my gosh. - Did yours release any...
- No, I mean, he's like, he has... I mean, Sean, he stays, he's on his grooming game. I mean, look at him. - Yeah, he is. - Look at the goth bangs. (crew laughing). - Goth bangs? - People say that... I was talking to Jessie about this, and she was like, "People on the internet say. that you really should get the hair out of your dog's eyes.". And I was like, "But what if I think it's cute?". (crew laughing). (Link laughing). - [Link] A dog doesn't exist. for you to think things are cute.
- These dogs do. - Or do they? - These dogs were specifically bred for... You think Sean would be okay. if I threw him out in the woods? No, he'd be a snack. Look at this thing. He'd be a little snack for a coyote. - He wants to be as cute as possible. - He can still see a little bit, right? You can see just a bit. A bit. - Jade, you're not happy, are you? - Okay, now blow dry and see if you can get that thing. I could not get him to dry off. Oh, she's in there doing the shake. (blow dryer humming). - I mean, I typically- (blow dryer humming).
- Yeah. - I typically have to do this. But see, I use my, sometimes I use my hands, sometimes I'll use the brush. And yeah, I kind of do it backwards. to make her fluffier. - So you do this yourself? You guys don't take them to a dog groomer? - We take them to a dog groomer, but then in between, like, sometimes I'll clean them. just 'cause I don't like this. I like the stuff that we got. that makes them smell different. They don't require as much grooming as your dogs. (blow dryer humming).
- Okay. - But as you can see, she doesn't really love it. (blow dryer humming). But I don't think she would love that even more. The amount of blowing that has to be done. is just a lot more than what's gonna happen. from that device. (blow dryer humming). Oh. - But you're basically, you've already dried her. Like, Sean was still wet. - Yeah, 'cause that, it's just a little hole. It's not gonna be good enough. Not gonna be good enough. - Okay, this, I mean, I'm sorry.
First of all, the fact that you said. that there was a low base background noise. to keep pets comfortable, and it really is just the sound. of a vacuum or a hair dryer going, which is usually a sound that dogs don't like. - Right. - I feel a little. bit offended. The fact that you're charging almost $80 for this. - Yeah. - And the fact that we. used it for a couple minutes on my little dog. in one little spot and it didn't dry him off. - Yeah. (air whooshes). - [Rhett] We're saying with pet grooming tools. (buzzer buzzing) - [Together] Old School. (upbeat music) (air whooshes). - Elections are happening soon here in the US,
and we've partnered with vote.org to provide you. with a one-stop shop to prepare for this year's election. - Visit votelikeabeast.com to access tools. to make sure you have everything you need to cast your vote. - Plus, our new Vote Like a Beast tee. is now live for you to shop as well. - Get ready to vote like a beast. (air whooshes) We've got a pain relief pen-. - Oh. - That you put on the part of your body that hurts. - Also from Sharper Image. - Uh-huh. - Come on, Sharper Image. - Yeah. You're the sharpest. - Keep it sharp. - It provides fast, targeted relief.
- For $93.59. - So it's basically a TENS unit, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. - Might you call it a PENS unit? (crew laughing). - Like, this is metal. And if I hold this and push this button, then this part right here shocks a little place. that will be hurting. And what it's supposed to do is make... It's like- - For joint pain and... - It stimulates your nerves.
to kind of decrease your sensitivity. to the pain in a certain area. So. - Where do you hurt right now? - Where do I not hurt? - Okay, well-. - Am I right? - I hurt. I'm gonna start here. I start in my... My right wrist hurts. - My left elbow hurts. Like, inside of there, something inside of there. - Okay. - So I'm gonna take this. And you're old tool, so what are you gonna do? - I'm gonna do hot and cold packs. - Okay. - Look at that. Spy versus spy. - So I don't think this... (crew laughing).
It might make the pain... It reduces your sensitivity and the signals of the pain, but it doesn't make anything better. - Icy Hot. - I don't think. - So start with ice and then go hot. - [Link] And that would reduce swelling. - [Rhett] Okay. - See, I can find the place where it hurts. I think this is like a-. - Right now, this is unpleasant. - Version of tennis elbow. If I just put that there and... - Also, my right shoulder hurts. - Oh! Oh! Oh! - My lower back hurts. - Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. - My left knee hurts. - Ding, ding. - Both of the index finger joints hurt.
'cause I've got, like, psoriatic arthritis in those. - Oh. - Especially the left one. - Where? - Just right on the index finger. Just... - Right there? - No, no. Right in that. That joint has arthritis. - Oh, right there? - Especially when I play guitar. - What's that feel like? Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. It's like little ding, ding, ding. - It's not a lot. Can it go up? - Can you go up? - It's one thing? - Hey, Plus Pen, go up. - It's one. - Yeah, that's it.
- It's one size fits all. - So like, if I put this thing up. It hurts on this side, too. Oh. - What else you got that hurts? - Look, look. Watch right here. When I do this- - I got more. - It starts jumping right there. You can tell how much, how much it jumps. Whoa. - Oh, oh. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Look at that. It's like your heart beating. - It's like frying a frog leg. - Okay, I'm moving to hot. (crew laughing). - And you're supposed to do this for like 30 seconds. in a spot to 60 seconds.
It's uncomfortable, but then when it's done, oh, I feel better. And I don't know if it's because this made me feel worse. and now I feel better that I'm done with that. - It's comparative pain. - Could that be it? - It's much easier to carry this around. You can put it in your little front pocket. - I've got knots in my... Oh, I could put it on my... Through light clothing. My pecs hurt a little bit. (Link gasps). Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. - Don't think you should. do it that close to the heart. - Oh, really? - As someone with former arrhythmia issues,
that makes me uncomfortable. - Okay. I'm gonna stick with the extremities. - Okay. - I'ma go up here with the knee. My knee hurt. Like, the kneecap, I'm hurting a lot. - Yeah, my left knee's hurting, too. What have we been doing- - Oh, oh, oh. - Where both of our left knees would be hurting? Something about this desk? - Walking down stairs. - [Rhett] But I use both legs for that. - Walking up stairs. - None of it's debilitating. It's just all annoying. - We're getting old, dude. - Okay, hold on. - I don't, I... - My wrist feels great,
but I can't put these in my pocket. - $94. This is portable. - They're a lot cheaper, though. - When I get these knots in my back, if I just like... It looks like I'm injecting myself. with something like I'm in a sci-fi movie. - I mean, we know both of these methods. are, like, clinically proven to help pain. Like, the whole TENS unit thing is proven to help pain, but. - Oh. Oh yeah. Oh. - Let me get... - Oh. Oh. You see that thing? - Oh, can I get a little bit of that? - See that thing popping? - [Rhett] Yeah, yeah. Let me get a little bit of that. - Is that thing popping?
- It's really popping. I wanna pop it like that. Let me pop it, daddy. - Hold on, it feels good, though. (Rhett laughing) It feels good. Oh yeah. I'm taking this home. (crew laughing). - All right. - I'll give it to you. in a minute. - Let me just... - I'll give it to you in a minute. - Let me just try it. Let me just try it. - Oh, oh, oh. - Let me just try it. Let me just try. 'Cause that looked very inviting. - And when you do it, act like you're stabbing yourself. with, like, a syringe. - Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. - It's a good pain. - Oh! - Yeah. It's a good pain.
- Oh! - I think my elbow doesn't feel worse now. I think it feels better. - Oh, but then you start leaning into it. and just let it happen. - Yeah. (Rhett sighing). It's good- - I like this. - To breathe with your pain. - Hey. - I like this, too. - I mean, it's like it's basically. doing the same thing as the TENS unit. And we have every reason to believe that would work. But you're not having to, like, get these pads out. and then turn this thing on. It's just a little pin. Put it in your pocket. - Uh-huh. - Okay, for once, we're gonna say pain relief methods.
(bell dings) - [Together] New Tool. (upbeat music) (air whooshes). - Did you know that Play-Doh has some new products. made with the discerning adult in mind? - I did not. - Like this Blooms. by Play-Doh. You can see- - I never would have thought. that would be Play-Doh. - All these flowers, all Play-Doh. Now, if you're super artistic, like my buddy, Link, here, you can just bring up some clay and some tools. - Right. I got some clay- - And you can make. an awesome flower. - And some tools over here.
- But if you get this set... So- - Hand me that box, by the way. - I am gonna try. to make one flower, following some directions. Now, let me say, it's got... There's a whole process I'll go through, but it has all these different colors. - It's like, this is $40. - Smell. Smell that. - Oh. - And then smell that one. They smell just like real flowers. Like, it's kind of... - But also Play-Doh. - A little bit of Play-Doh, but, like, it's kind of crazy. how they were able to pull that off. - Play-Doh is doing what Lego.
has started doing for a few years now, which is make adult sets. I mean, if you're like eight or older, you can still build, but there's like cacti and different plants. and architecture and all this stuff. So they're getting in on that game. So you build these towers- - Whoops. - And then you smoosh everything. and the flowers come out. - Well, if all goes according to plan, yes. - So it's an extrusion process. based on a recipe that Rhett is gonna follow.
- Mm-hm. And I'm very much following. - 39.99 is not bad to... If you think you're interested in this type of thing. - Oh no. - I mean-. - Oh no. Mayday. - If adults can play. with Legos, adults can play with Play-Doh. And still eat it, right? I mean, that's really all I wanna do. I'm gonna just work with my fingers. - Yeah, you do something beautiful over there. and we'll see who ends up having a more beautiful thing. - I'm gonna try. - Let me roll this out a little bit here.
Get it a little bit thinner. - [Link] Just gonna make some petals. - And then you just stick it in there. - Just gonna make some petals over here. - I know how to insert. And then you just cut. And then you put it on top here. - I just like the box. - Oh, I was supposed. to do another yellow one. See, I almost already screwed up. - Well, I guess that's my stem right there. - And then this. - Take that and do that. - Okay, now. - And take that and do that. - This is- - Take that and doing that. - Like the green part of the flower, not Play-Doh.
But that is gonna come in very important in a second. So you've got all these different flowers. that are the interior of the flower. Again, not Play-Doh. Don't be disappointed. So I've got like a little bit. of a rose petal situation here. And now, this is where I screw it up. Okay, I'm going to try to just plunge. Plunge. - Oh, you're already at plunge point?
Ooh! Ooh! We got a gradient happening. - [Rhett] Yes. - [Link] Oh! - [Rhett] Yes. I'm fully plunged. - And now what? - And now I grab this. and I just pull up. - Don't panic. - I just pull up. - [Link] Oh! - And then I pop. (Rhett laughing). (Link laughing). (Rhett laughing). Hold on, don't screw it up. - I'm not gonna screw it up.
- Don't touch it! It's mine! - I was pointing closely. - And then I'm gonna... Oh gosh. Without screwing it up, I'm gonna try to put it in there. And then I am going to spray it. - What is this spray? - This makes it hard. - Oh, it's got a little hardening spray. - It preserves it. (bottle spraying). I'm on a roll. I'm making another one. (laughs). - Oh. But look at me.
I also am on a roll over here. - I mean, look at that. I made a perfect... Oh, now we have to clean it? - I don't know how I feel about that. - I don't know about the cleaning process. - The middle part is not Play-Doh. I don't know what I... It's too much of a shortcut, I feel like. - But that's kind of awesome. Like, I feel like I'm really bad at getting flowers. for my wife because she has very... She's a little particular about what flowers she likes. She doesn't like just to go... She doesn't want me to just go to...
She's not super into flowers, but when I do get flowers, she's like, "Well, just get what I like. Don't just get anything.". And I'm still figuring that out. - I go to Ralph's for that. - Maybe. Ralph's is for fried chicken, not for flowers. That's what I always say. (crew laughing). - Yeah, but if you're getting the fried chicken, the flowers are there. And if you're getting the flowers, the fried chicken is there. - So I think this might be a new little wave for me. - This is fun. - Bring my wife a little Play-Doh. and it'll last forever.
- I mean, but just compare... There's not really that much different. between what you did and what I did. - Yours looks like a child did it. Mine looks like an adult did it. And if you give your wife those flowers, you're gonna get childlike things back from her. If I get my wife- - A little play time. - These flowers, I'm gonna get adult things back. (plastic tapping). I want adult things from my wife. - Okay. But you still wanna play with Play-Doh? - Yes. - All right. - And it smells incredible. I mean, really. Like, I would say more flower than Play-Doh.
- I think- - I'm really impressed. by this. - I think having an adult. Play-Doh date could be very fun. - Yeah. - Why buy. your partner flowers when you can make them together? (air whooshes) (upbeat music). Crafting clay. (bell dings). - [Together] New Tool! - Okay, so Old School (air whooshes). was having a little bit of a run there for a second, but now we've ended up with New Tool for the last two. And I think I can heartily recommend this. and that little pen. - You can hardly? (crew laughing). - Heartily.
- Heartily. - I can heartily. Just a night of adult fun. Making flowers and then putting little TENS units. on your aching joints. - Thanks for being your Mythical best. - You know what time it is. - I'm Rhett, aka Anna Grotalucian. - And I'm Link, aka Audrey Geatsen. - We're from Ann Arbor, Michigan. - And these are our belly buttons. - And it's time. - [Together] To spin the Wheel of Mythicality! (wheel clicking) - I mean-. - 'Tis the season. - We're the same people. (Link laughing). - Yeah, you can be us for Halloween. We're honored.
- We have a huge... Well, actually, Link has a huge personal announcement. - Mm-hm. That really long hair growing out of my nipple fell out. (crew member clapping). - Join us in Good Mythical More. to see how we do in matching charades. (light music). Visit votelikeabeast.com to make sure you're prepared. and informed to cast your vote in this year's elections.
