7 Craziest Winter Sports Ever

i'm gonna show you the craziest sports. you can do on ice or snow. let's talk about that. [Music]. good mythical morning. i trust that you're enjoying the. festivities over in sochi seeing. professional athletes compete for medals. of all sorts of kinds. well but you know that there are a lot. of.

that's pretty good still falling down. the mountain that's what i was trying to. do but then you're starting to come back. up like you bounced like a trampoline. coming back up the ski lift um there's a. lot of conventional winter sports but. there's a lot of unconventional. unofficial winter sports they haven't. become officially recognized. are these candidates. they should be. maybe this episode will cause these to. be recognized officially let's start. with a death defying one many of these. are death defying speed flying okay. pretty self-explanatory here you've got.

people. who are have a parachute like a glider. sort of situation and also skis yeah and. they are skiing down the side of a. mountain. this is not like a resort situation this. is like the side of a mountain where. there are rocks and they just jump over. them it looks like at any moment there. could be an a rock outcropping that. could just well take you out well maybe. that explains why nine people died last. year doing this. really yeah and check this out so i was.

like oh i'm going along on the side of. the mountain and uh sure yeah maybe i'll. just go off the side of the mountain. that this is something that you cannot. do on regular skis you have to have the. parachute built well you can do it once. on just a pair of skis right. so if you're dating a speed flyer don't. get too attached wow that's crazy. all right uh there's more that came from. feeling that's what i'm gonna be saying. a lot in this episode that's crazy ski. bobbing again this one's pretty simple.

this is taking a bicycle frame and. putting skis on it oh my goodness. i'm getting hurt. that guy doesn't like he's going to get. up anytime soon it doesn't look like a. basketball. i mean that doesn't look like it does. not look like a basketball you're. correct sir that doesn't look like a. bicycle frame it looks like. a weird piece of. qvc exercise equipment that my mom would. never use but purchased with good. intention so the thing i noticed about. this is that there's just something. distinctly redneck about sitting on. something that's moving real fast i.

don't know what it is i don't think this. is ever going to make it as an actual. winter sport right and i think that's. the the working definition of a redneck. is someone who sits on something takes. to the air and then starts to flail. about okay well it gets it even it gets. a little more redneck it gets it even. gets a little redneck uh this is. skijoring this is a winter sport where. people are pulled. it actually started uh by people being. pulled by animals like horses but. somebody quickly figured out it would be. more fun to be pulled by motorized. vehicles this is archival footage from.

1955 yeah this this happened in 1955 and. at the time it was apparently considered. the world's most dangerous sport because. that's the name of this video well not. only are you moving at the speed of a of. a vehicle. but you could be hit by another vehicle. at any moment yeah i would assume some. people have died from this and i. personally i would do this but i would. insist on driving i might do it but i. wouldn't do it with other people on a. track that seems to be the craziest part. about it you want to do it i'll drive. me yeah i'll be pulled behind a car how. about this shovel racing there it is.

it's exactly what i expected it to be. it's just a dude straddling a shovel. going down a ski slope yeah yeah. uh-huh. and actually this started in new mexico. ski resorts in the 1970s where the. employees would use the shovels to get. down the mountain faster because they. were like shoveling snow and they would. just get into the get onto the shovel. and go down and now it's sort of an. unofficial sport they do racing. competitions well it's it's a little bit. unfortunate where the shovel handle is.

you know it it seems to. are you a shovel racer are you just. happy to see me exactly okay i've got a. few more unconventional winter sports. for you but as you know we are inventing. our own unconventional winter sports. southern california versions of. conventional winter sports as part of. the winter sport spectacular here on. youtube it's time for another one. surf and. i'm not going back what else do you have. well i could see that this could get. pretty dangerous if you got up to the. reported speeds of 70 miles per hour. that would get pretty interesting really. or if you hit a big ice fishing hole now. this one this one's phenomenal this is. uh they have a big competition up on the. saint lawrence river this is ice. canoeing now this got started it wasn't. a sport it was this is so phenomenal why. does it only have 188 views well because.

you know i mean. just it's not it's underappreciated okay. okay so when you get to the water. you have to start rowing and then when. you get to the ice you get back out of. the boat okay pushing it like this like. stroke stroke up walk walk and this was. not a sport originally this was just a. way for people to get across the st. lawrence river and something like hold. on hold on we can go faster than those. guys trying to get the beaver pelts. across the river. and then the next thing you know you've. got a sport. i think this would also be very useful. for like rescuing dogs that have fallen.

through the ice you see those youtube. videos where there's a dog that fell. through the eyes and there's a guy like. i don't know his belly he just needs to. do this and it would be okay. uh but that has nothing absolutely. nothing on snow kayaking which is also a. boating sport now this is something that. i could think up in my mind. okay. really yeah it may you know snow plus. kayak equals snow kayaking. equals instant death well you could. easily see how this got started.

two guys you know on vacation in the. mountains. yeah hey man. don't you have a kayak as a matter of. fact i do. and it's poised at the top of this. mountain i mean just think about it you. see these people going over these. waterfalls and stuff why can't you just. do that at the top of a mountain this is. pretty turns out you can. how did they get the kayaks up there. well i mean they don't let you do this. in resorts. no this is not recommended or allowed at. most resorts they pull them up there by. a string you can actually see that right.
