Trey Yingst: This could be a NEW reality
Well, the White House is declaring the. United States is winning the conflict. with Iran, even as the fight over the. critical strait of Hormuz continues. Welcome back to another hour of Fox News. Live. I'm Rich Edson. Tyrron is doubling. down on its demand, saying the strait. will stay closed until the United States. meets certain conditions. That is the. White House says Iran is facing. crippling inflation as the US blockade. and sanctions campaign continues. Trey. Yinx is live in Tel Aviv with more.
Trey. >> Yeah, Rich. Good afternoon. New comments. today by Iran's parliament speaker and. top negotiator Muhammad Khalibbuff, who. said the straight of Hormuz will remain. closed until Iranian demands are met. Now, what the speaker did not mention is. that the United States is still. escorting millions of barrels of crude. oil out of the Persian Gulf each day. There's also an ongoing US naval. blockade that is crippling the Iranian. economy and we're starting to see those. inflation numbers rise inside of Iran. and the currency is weakening. And so at.
this point there is no diplomatic. progress being made. We know around the. UN General Assembly, the Iranians. reviewed a proposal about reopening this. critical waterway, but it was not. accepted by the Trump administration. that continues to keep intense military. pressure on Iran. There are still more. than 50,000 US forces deployed across. the Middle East and another aircraft. carrier on the way to the region to give. the president a variety of options. moving forward. Rich, >> uh, you know, Trey, you and I, since I. was at the State Department years ago,
covered maximum pressure one against the. Iranian regime. They have a pretty high. tolerance for for this type of pressure, don't they? >> Absolutely. And look, the United States. is preparing for that reality both. militarily and economically. On Friday, top US officials met at Camp David to. discuss the next steps in the war. And. President Trump indicated over the. weekend decisions were made, but they're. not projecting those decisions. The. Iranians are prepared for this reality. And we have seen this throughout the. Gulf region as they have launched.
counterattacks and new fresh attacks. against Gulf allies or countries they. claim to be allies. But these are. countries that continue to come under. direct Iranian threat. and some of them. do house US forces. And then when you. look at Jordan neighboring to Israel, US. forces there have also come under attack. as well. And so while the Iranians. continue this threatening behavior, the. focus for the Trump administration is to. see if they can reach an agreement. And. if not, reports do indicate the. president is considering renewing the. bombing campaign against the Iranian.
regime. The major question to look at. here, what would be different than. Operation Epic Fury? Remember, back at. the beginning of this year, both US and. Israeli fighter jets were over the skies. of Iran. They were trying to go after. many of those production lines and the. military capabilities that belong to the. regime. And while this regime is. certainly weakened, it's not destroyed, and it still does pose that regional. threat, not just directly from Iranian. territory, but also through proxy forces. across the region, including Hezbollah. in southern Lebanon and the Houthis in. Yemen. >> And you mentioned the other countries,
too, here. One of the different dynamics. this time around than several years ago. during the first Trump administration is. that Iran has actually attacked other. countries. Yes, US allies, but still. there does seem to be at least some. international pressure, but it really. isn't as much as the White House would. like. Right. >> Absolutely. They're trying to get these. Gulf countries on board with the reality. of what's taking place. And that was. part of the reason that the president. used those remarks during the UN General. Assembly to explain what his his aim is. in all of this. But remember, initially.
the American people were told this could. be over in 4 to 6 weeks. At this point, it's more than 7 months into the. conflict with no end in sight. And you. still do have these relatively more. moderate voices inside of Iran, including the country's parliament. speaker, Muhammad Khalibah, and the. country's president, Masud Peskin, who. claim that Iran is still open to an. agreement. But then you also have. topline IRGC officials that are. continuing to launch attacks not only in. the straight of Hormuz, but also going. after these regional countries when they. get the opportunity. All right, Trey. Yanks live for us. Trey, thanks as.
always. >> Thank you. >> We'll now turn to Victoria Coats, vice. president of the national security at. the Heritage Foundation and a former. deputy national security adviser under. President Trump. Victoria, thank you as. always for joining us. What's your. assessment of what's happening in the. street of Hormuz and how much that's. evolved over the last several weeks? >> Well, great to see you, Rich. But I was. really struck by a point you made. talking to Trey just now about covering. the maximum pressure campaign during. President Trump's first term. I worked.
on that as well. Uh and you know the the. issue that we have now why it's. different now is that the damage that. was inflicted during the first term was. never fixed. the economic relief they. got under the Biden administration. The. Iranian regime spent on October 7th, we're about to mark the anniversary of. that on Wednesday on their nuclear. program, on the IRGC. They didn't spend. it on building the economy at home. So. the kind of economic strength we see. burgeoning up in the United States right.
now, that never happened in Iran. So now. it's exponentially worse, made worse by. operation epic fury and then by the. additional steps they're taking in. operation economic outcast. So I think. when you hear uh you know the Iranians. saying oh the strait will remain closed. until our conditions are met. I mean. it's delusional. It's just not real. It. is open just not for them. >> How far do you think the administration. can achieve in its list of goals in this. entire campaign? Do you think it's just.
the straight now or have we moved beyond. that to its missile program, its. processes, that same list that we. remember from the first term? >> No, the key thing is the nuclear. program. President Trump has been very. clear from the beginning of this. operation that what cannot be tolerated. is a nuclear weapon in the hands of a. theocratic death to America regime. That's very simple. And so they are. going to have to agree to the. dismantlement of whatever's left of it. after it's been so heavily bombed. We. need to get in and and ascertain and. confirm that it is fully dismantled and.
then they have to take steps to pre or. we have to be able to take steps to. prevent them from reconstituting that. One of the good things that happened. during epic fury is we took out a lot of. their nuclear scientists in conjunction. with the Israelis. And so they're going. to have a hard time building that back. And then that's where also the economic. campaign comes in. They don't have the. resources to build rebuild all their. sophisticated centrifuges and nobody's. going to give them credit at this point.
So I think you're going to see that. compound and get toward the president's. goal of a verifiable deal on the nuclear. program. >> Do are you concerned that in any. agreement there will be sanctions relief. and that even if you achieve those. things then in the future that sanctions. relief provides the funding and means to. go back and to rebuild for the Iranians. Of course. I mean, you've got to you've. got to watch that like a hawk. And so. there can be controls on the way money. comes in and out of Iran uh that we can. keep an eye on. We can keep funds away.
from them. We can watch how they do. banking because bear in mind part of. Operation Economic Outcast, they've been. cut off. Uh their old econ sort of. financial lifeline was through Dubai and. UAE. But as you guys were also. discussing, they've been shelling the. UAE and their other neighbors. mercilessly throughout this uh. throughout this entire conflict. So UAE. has cut them off like no, you can't use. our banks anymore. And so they're going. to have very very limited ways to do uh. financial transactions with the outside.
world. China, for example, they do try. to sell oil to China still, but even so, China keeps those funds. They only let. the Iranians use them to buy goods from. China. So unless China sells them a. nuclear reactor, they're not going to be. able to use that money to reconstitute. their program. >> Do you think President Trump made any. headway with Chinese President Xiinping. when they met when it comes to Iran? >> I think he may well have because this is. entirely in Xi's best interest. He's not. going to do us any favors. He's not.
going to do things out of the kindness. of his heart. But Xi likes that oil. coming out of Iran and he likes that oil. coming out of Saudi Arabia. And if those. flows are disrupted, you know, he really. has a problem. And so I can see Xi. looking at rather troubled forecasts for. the Chinese economy over the next year. or so thinking I really need that secure. energy uh flow out of the Gulf. Maybe. the Iranians can rein it in a little. bit. That would be in our best interest. as well. >> All right, Victoria Coats, always a. pleasure. Thank you for joining us.
>> Thanks, Rich. >> Sunday morning future starts right now. All. right, we begin the Sunday morning with. the strength of the American economy. My. favorite topic. It's growing faster than. expected in the second quarter, led by. consumer spending and especially. business investment. The economy did. grow at 2.2% from April through June,
topping the 1.5% estimate by economists. This comes as revised data for the first. quarter shows the economy actually grew. 2.5% up from the initial estimate of. 2.1%. and the third quarter I think is going. to come in somewhere around 4% plus. meanwhile on the jobs front employment. actually rose if you chart the household. survey from which the unemployment rate. comes actually jobs grew by 46,000.
last month that's on the heels of August. increase of 569,000. and we had a very respectable 46,000. gain in private sector jobs. Meanwhile, federal jobs continue to decline. Now, with the midterms just 30 days away, President Trump is embarking on a. month-long campaign blitz across the US, touting America's economic strength. Take a listen. Our first term was.
phenomenal, but our second term is. blowing everything away. We've added. 72,000 manufacturing jobs in the past. nine months. And as a record number of. factories are opening because we have 21. trillion dollars being invested in the. United States of America building. factories plants we gave you no tax on. tips no tax on overtime and no tax on. social security for our great seniors. >> Yes indeed as he often says it's the.
hottest economy in the world. Meanwhile, Iran's economy on the verge of collapse. Treasury Secretary Scott Besson told me. Iran running out of oil to sell. >> China has substantially reduced any. assistance to Iran. And I I am confident. given that uh there's only 15 million. more barrels of Iranian oil on the water. that Iran will have nothing left to. trade for anything. probably within the.
next 2 weeks they are going to make. their final deliveries of oil to China. and then they they will have nothing. Meanwhile, uh Treasury Secretary Besson. is um tweeting uh this weekend that Iran. has zero oil exports position zero oil. exports. Anyway, let's talk to chief. foreign correspondent Trey Yinx is live. in Tel Aviv, Israel with more. Trey, what you got? >> Yeah, Larry, good morning. With the.
conflict unresolved, the Iranian economy. is continuing to suffer due to the. ongoing US naval blockade and heavy. sanctions. Inflation in Iran remains. high and the currency remains weak. This. is starting to affect everyday citizens. across the country. >> Depreciating currency eliminates hopes. for the youth. It makes everyone think. about immigration. It makes you think. less highly of your country than you. should because the calm and stability. you wanted was never given to you.
>> Multiple sectors are starting to feel. that pressure. Long lines at gas. stations, limited supply routes, and. even healthcare being affected. Certainly since the sanctions have. affected virtually every aspect of life, they have also had a direct impact on. healthcare, medicine, and everything. related to this field. Day by day, we. are seeing that our patients face. serious difficulties in obtaining their. medications. They struggle not only with.
drug shortages, but also with the high. cost of medicines that are available. As of last week, Sentcom says more than. 115 commercial vessels have been. redirected as part of the ongoing US. naval blockade. A number of Iranian oil. tankers have also been targeted in US. strikes. These efforts, directed by. President Trump and led by Sentcom. Commander Admiral Brad Cooper, are. making it challenging for Iran to prop. up their economy through oil exports. Last month, we saw the blockade line. firsthand aboard the USS George.
Washington. And we do know another. aircraft carrier is headed to the. region. Larry. All right, chief foreign. correspondent Trey Inks live in Tel. Aviv. Thank you ever so much. Be sure to like and subscribe for all. the Fox News latest on YouTube and catch. full shows streaming now on Fox.
