'ERUPTION OF FIGHTING': US strikes Iran, triggering ATTACKS on American bases

The US military pounding Iran for. the first time since July, striking. rocket launchers in the Strait of.

Tensions flaring as Sentcom reports. a limited action targeting rockets that. they say were about to launch sea mines. into the straight of Hormuz. >> Iran then firing missiles and drones at.

US forces in Jordan. All of them. reportedly shot down. President Trump. reminding everyone of his ultimate goal. with Iran. >> We're doing a great job. The blockade. has been unbelievable. The financial. uh the financial hits that we're giving. them, we're hitting them very hard. Never nobody's ever been hit like this. And they're a failing nation right now. And at the right point, we'll either win. or they'll do something. But, you know, I don't mind winning. Just winning that. I don't need a signature on a piece of.

paper. >> And we've got Fox Team coverage this. morning. General Jack Keane is standing. by in just moments with his analysis. But first, we send it out to Alex Hogan. live at the White House this morning. Hi, Alex. >> Hi, Bill. So, President Trump telling. Fox that the US will respond to Iran. firing these attacks, these missiles and. drones at US military targets in Jordan. The UAE also says that it intercepted an. Iranian drone, but a source tells Fox. that nearly all of the incoming missiles. were intercepted. Earlier yesterday, US. troops struck Iran's Laric Island,

targeting IRGC forces preparing to. launch rockets with sea mines into the. straight of Hormuse. A US official today. telling Reuters that the US did not. target Carg Island. President Trump. wrote online that the island, which. handles oil exports, was under attack. Trump this weekend also pointing to a. new oil deal with Venezuela, saying that. he would fill up the strategic national. reserves with Venezuelan oil. The. newlyannounced deal allows for the. development of 17 strategic oil fields. with a target of more than 1.5 million.

barrels per day. It will grant the US. majority control over the potential of. 65 billion barrels of proven oil. reserves. The US says the deal will. bring in nearly $100 billion in private. investment. And Venezuela's acting. president Delsei Rodriguez says it will. create more than $200 billion dollars in. tax revenue for her country. Democrats, however, are slamming the news of the. agreement. Senator Tim Kaine writing, quote, "Now we see why Trump invaded. Venezuela and bottom line, using our. troops for private oil grab is.

corruption at an epic scale." Well, this. deal will require a significant amount. of infrastructure and investment. So, it's still unclear at this point how. long it could be before we could see. that oil to be able to fill up the. reserves. Um, Iran, maybe they're feeling financial pressure. or something, but they decided to launch. these missiles and they were intercepted. and the president now says he will hit.

them back hard. What do you see? Well, first of all, not surprising the. Iranians are doing something about the. Straits of Amuse. I mean, they it was. the vehicle that they imposed on us on. March the 2nd, just a few days after we. began the war on February 28th. And. remember, it is their major leverage. point and we went to a ceasefire with. them on April the 7th as a result of. them shutting down the Stras Moons. because they said they wanted to. negotiate over it. And here we are 5.

months later and there's been no. successful negotiation over the Straits. of Amuse to be sure. But we imposed a. naval blockade a week after that on. April the 13th and that certainly has. had an impact here. And the other thing. we've done is we cleared not only the. carter that's closest to Aman for. shipping and we've been passing shipping. through there for weeks, but central. command has cleared the central corridor. which is likely where these um mines are.

heading by uh shipping the rockets in. that direction. And I think clearly the. Iranians I think are in a more desperate. mood here than what we've seen in the. past by imposing this now. And obviously. we dealt with that. Cooper has a what we. call preeemption authority. If he sees. Iran getting ready to do something, he. doesn't have to ask permission to act. >> And he saw that taking place and he. launched and destroyed that capability. >> And now the Iranians obviously have.

retaliated against us. And as we've been. reporting, the president doesn't stand. for that and likely will retaliate quite. considerably here uh back at the. Iranians and and focus certainly on any. means there to deal with disrupting the. straight of a moose. Uh Bill and Dana, what the Iranians have left here in. leverage is just the straight of a. moose. That's it. They see it as a. strategic asset. But as we've been. reporting here steadily, the trend is up. on moving ships through the straits of.

Amuse, particularly in the Florida. that's off the coast of Aman. And. they're doing that quite successfully. And that has got to be frustrating the. Iranians because this is the only card. that they have to play is the straits of. a moose. And they're beginning to. gradually lose it. >> And you uh have the Institute for Study. of War. This analysis I picked up on. from Friday that the regime appears. increasingly focused on preventing. worsening economic grievances from. producing renewed unrest. And this comes.

after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. last week um put forward um Operation. Outcast. And then he also said this. ahead of the G20 finance leaders. meeting. You're going to see a lot more. of these every week. We're starting with. the banks and we're telling the banks. it's not okay to have Iranian money and. to aid the regime. What can you tell us. about that aspect of the war? >> Yeah. Well, certainly what what the. secretary is doing here, I think, is the. most comprehensive attempt to.

financially and economically isolate a. regime. He is just going after just. about everybody who is doing any trading. with them. And certainly the countries. that are the most exposed here is. [clears throat] is China, the UAE, Turkey, Iraq, India, Pakistan, and. Russia. And they're they're going to. receive heavy focus here from Secretary. Besson in terms of secondary sanctions. And what we've also learned from the. Trump administration and from Secretary. Pompeo, who was involved in that with.

the Secretary of Treasury then, is that. enforcement is key. Some of these. nations tell you they're going to comply. and then weeks later they're not. complying as much and months later not. even complying at all. >> So enforcement is also key. But this. pathway that the secretary has chosen. the magnitude of it no one has ever. attempted before. But we're up against, you know, we've seen it with Russia. They figure out how to work around. sanctions and Iran has been working. around sanctions for years. But we're on.

to all of the workarounds and that is. what is so different here and he's going. after those workarounds from the outset. and that should absolutely impose a. difference. How much suffering the. regime is willing to take is unknowable. They don't know themselves. What they do. know and I think where they're coming. from uh Dana and Bill is that they. believe they can outlast us here. They. their intent is to stick with this, absorb the blow, so to speak, and.

hopefully President Trump doesn't do. well in the midterm elections and the. Democrats try to shut this war down. That's kind of where their head is. And. they don't care about the people to be. sure. But Secretary Bessant is employing. something here that absolutely will have. some impact. And you're right. I mean, in in my sources, Iranian people I know. who have family there, there is. unbelievable unrest and frustration in. the country. And if that boils over and. manifests itself into protest again, we.

The Jordanian army says. it intercepted those attacks. Now, this. renewed fighting comes as the US works. to further isolate Iran's economy. President Trump reiterating America's. goals in the region. >> Iran is a. number one leading state sponsor of. terror. You've heard that many times in.

the whole world. They cannot have a. nuclear weapon. These are very violent, evil people. And if they had a nuclear. weapon, Israel would be gone. If I. weren't president, Israel would be gone. Good morning. President. Trump told Fox News there will be a US. response to the Iranian attack on US. forces overnight in Jordan. The.

president said, "We're going to hit them. hard. There will be a response." The. president said all of the missiles were. shot down with the exception of one that. wasn't going to hit anything. significant. Overnight, Iran launched at. least eight ballistic missiles at US. forces in Jordan. The attack came after. US forces struck Iran's Lark Island. after identifying preparations for an. IRGC rocket launch that was meant to. place new sea mines in the straight of. Hormuz. Sentcom released a statement. saying US forces took limited precise. action against IRGC mine laying forces.

posing an eminent threat in the straight. of Hormuz. In essence, Iran created the. threat and the US military eliminated it. to protect civilian mariners, commercial. shipping, and the free flow of global. commerce. This is the first known US. strike against Iran since late July. Iranian President Masud Peskin spoke. today about the exchange of fire. >> We do not seek war. That has been our. message to the world until now. However, in the face of aggression, we will not. stand by. We are capable of delivering.

decisive response. Instability in this. region would affect everyone and create. serious problems. Instability is in no. country's interest. >> The event comes as reports indicate the. US may ramp up economic pressure this. week against Iran. Following new. sanctions last week, Iranian officials. reacted over the weekend with Iran's. Supreme Leader Mushtab Hamayi, urging. more domestic production and less. reliance on the US dollar. Overnight, President Trump told Fox News this about. the operation against Iran. >> The blockade has been unbelievable. the.

financial. uh the financial hits that we're giving. them. We're hitting them very hard. Never nobody's ever been hit like this. And they're a failing nation right now. Their. navy's gone, their air force is gone, their leaders are gone, their uh all of. their anti-aircraft.

The region now waits to see how the. United States will respond to that. attack on US forces overnight. Bill. Dana, >> ask you about what what you are hearing. about what's happening inside Iran. Not. with the leadership, the current. leadership, but with the people there. It's been over 6 months now. They have. very little internet access. The. inflation's out of control. How much are. they suffering? Yeah, we're starting to get new images. from inside of Iran that show long lines. at gas stations, rising food prices, and. severe economic indications about the.

Iranian realal that crossed 2.1 million. realal to one US dollar today. A. historic low for the country's currency. This is taking place amid the backdrop. of these ongoing US economic sanctions. and the US naval blockade that is making. it extremely challenging for the. Iranians to export any crude oil to prop. up their economy. And so the Iranian. people are starting to speak out. We. have heard some statements and sound. bites from people there on the streets. of Iran that say the cost of goods is. rising there, especially in the capital. of Thran. >> Trey, with this latest attack, you know,

obviously Iran still has the capability. to shoot off a few missiles here and. there, but it seems just so different. from the start of the war and the past. couple years when Iran was fighting with. Israel when there were barges where we. were seeing hundreds of missiles coming. in at a time. I remember watching you do. live shots where there were just. missiles falling out of the sky like a. meteor shower. What does it say to you. about Iran's missile capabilities now. that after 6 months of war, they're. really only able to shoot a handful of. missiles? >> Yeah, it's a great question. Look, the. bottom line here, the Iranian military.

is degraded but not destroyed. And. that's very important to look at because. more than 6 months now into this. conflict, the Iranians still do have the. ability to launch ballistic and cruise. missiles along with drones. The UAE says. they shot down an incoming Iranian drone. earlier today. And it gives you a sense. of what remains in their arsenal along. with the threat of these sea mines that. according to US central command they. were trying to place more of in the. straight of Hormuz. Now they say they. control this critical waterway that so. much of the world's oil passes through.

But we do know in the backdrop the US. Navy is overseeing an operation to get. millions of barrels of crude oil out of. the Persian Gulf each day. And so. there's no indication that this is. anywhere close to over. And you see. these conflicting statements back and. forth. But for the first time this. weekend, Iranian officials admitted that. these sanctions are having an effect. The Iranian president, Masud Peskin, said in an interview with state media, he doesn't know what to tell people that. say that sanctions have no effect on. A major escalation overseas as Tran. strikes US forces in Jordan just hours. after our military took out Iranian. rocket launchers in the straight of. Hormuz. The latest exchange of fire. putting the Gulf States back in focus. with Iran Supreme Leader calling for. Muslim nations to unite. Joining us now. is Fox News contributor and former CIA. station chief Dan Hoffman. Dan, thanks. for coming on to talk about this. You. know, what do you think the goal is here. for Iran? I I mean they're clearly. losing and at this point I feel like. they're just kind of delaying the.

inevitable of a full-blown loss. So I. mean their nation is failing. Why keep. going at this point? >> Well, the first thing I would emphasize. is that this was an intelligence success. by the United States. We did we uh. collected intelligence that Iran was. seeking to launch rockets uh and place. mines in the street of Hormuz and we. took decisive action right away to. prevent that from happening and of. course Iran has responded by launching. strikes on Jordan and the UAE. I think.

the timing is worth noting. It's right. after the United States imposed. significant economic pressure on Iran. And I think what Iran wants to do is. demonstrate that they still have some. leverage to disrupt the global economy. and inflict harm on the United States. economy and uh and the world at large. And that I think is what Iran is trying. to demonstrate at this point. >> You know, I want to talk about the Gulf. countries. Uh President Trump, he said. Iran's attacks across the region have. cost support from its neighbors. Listen.

to this. As soon as the shooting started, they. started aiming at Saudi Arabia, at. Qatar, at UAE, at Bahrain, at Kuwait. They were aiming. Everybody was shocked. I was surprised. I thought it was a very. good thing because they lost all of the. support that they had. >> So, you know, the Wall Street Journal, they reported that business has. continued as normal in Dubai. So, how do. you think these Gulf countries should be. responding to all of this? Well, I think we've made it pretty clear.

that we want to uh very much focus on. Iran's uh economic uh ties with the. Middle East and the rest of the world. There are Iranian uh shadow uh companies. and and shell companies. They've been. exporting oil to China. They do a lot of. business in the Emirates and it's really. going to be important for the United. States and our partners and allies in. the region to work together to shut down. whatever uh commercial trade Iran is. enjoying in the region. Iran knows that.

and that's why they're launching these. strikes. They're hoping to induce our. partners in the region not to want to go. along with the United States and support. these uh very harsh economic uh pressure. against Iran. And I think that's what's. behind these strikes. And I think what. we'll be looking for with the Trump. administration will be looking for in. the coming days are US intelligence. community collecting on Iran's plans and. intentions and how Iran is responding to. the United States military strikes uh in.

response uh to Iran. >> Do you think we should expect more of. these back and forth strikes? I mean, it. had been about a month, a little over a. month since the last time we saw this. Is this something we should expect in. the coming days and weeks to see more. of? I I think the Trump administration was. prepared for the fact that as we. increase economic pressure on Iran that. the Iranians would respond by seeking to. launch kinetic strikes against us and I. think we are prepared to deal with that. and I don't think it would surprise any.

of us if we saw continued efforts by. Iran to launch strikes in the future. Yeah, you know, I thought it was a. pretty a wild thought that you earlier. on the show, Alex Hogan was reporting. that Iran was focusing on curbing. inflation, creating jobs, and reducing. dependence on the dollar.
